Hey, Josh.
Somehow, it has been 20 years since the show premiered. That's, you know, I'm going to check the math on that. 10 years since it went off the air, and we thought that made this a perfect time to look back, see what the hell we did, and why the show still seems to resonate with fans around the world today. The JR Sport Brief Show here with you, coast to coast. on the Infinity Sports Network. I'm coming to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you so much to everybody for tuning in, for being locked in all over North America. I'm in Atlanta.
Thank you to our producer in New York City, Shoutouts to Ryan Botcher.
Okay, it's Monday. And we've been here for three hours. I'll be with you for one more. We got a lot going on. in the world of sports as it stands right now.
Game seven of the American League Championship Series The Mariners and Blue Jays. They're tied at one run apiece. They're in the top of the third right now.
Meanwhile, we got a double header for Monday night football. We got the Lions leading the Buccaneers fourteen to three. And an hour from now. We got the Texans taking on the The Seahawks. The Texans are trying to even up their record at 3-3.
The Seahawks trying to improve. It's a five. And two, unfortunately, how about this? The Buccaneers. I just put some points on a board.
Baker Mayfield. connecting with Tez Johnson for a touchdown. and so the buccaneers are finally showing some action here. Are you trying to move this game to 14 to 10? Unfortunately, no Mike Evans.
Mike Evans returned.
Now Mike Evans is out, You don't have to deal with a hamstring issue. that Mike Evans suffers a concussion also has a shoulder injury. Uh he is going to be out.
Okay, who knows? He may be out for uh a longer The gnat Anyway. Oh, how about this? Eh, Bantra, people are scoring all over the place. I can't keep up.
Sports. In its sports season, Julio Rodriguez just hits a home run. He's now showing some life. Seattle now leads Toronto. two to one As Julio Rodriguez earlier in this at bat, he kind of fouls the ball off of his foot.
In this one he deposits It's a left Field.
Okay, game seven of the American League Championship Series And our Seattle leads 2-1. We got a long way to go here in this game. as they're still only in the top of the third. Botcher, is it me, or is this Gain Taking a little bit longer than we traditionally get. Yeah, there's been a lot of base runners.
So, credit to, I guess, Bieber and. Uh Currently for getting out of it, but it's been. It's been rough so far for these starters. It's been rough. I think this game's going to go on.
I don't know. Maybe we'll have a little bit of a classic here, but I think we got a whole lot more runs. that are going to come this way. You know what? Let's take a listen to Julio Rodriguez.
He just hit the home run, but before the game, as a matter of fact, yesterday, Julio was asked about his mindset. heading into Game Seven, and this is what he had to say. I just feel like it's gonna be another game. I feel like we all know what it means, but at the same time, we're gonna be playing the same nine innings and it's gonna be 27 outs. You know, whoever is winning at the end is gonna win.
Yeah, well but Botcha, did you know baseball was that simple? I no. I didn't know you just have to, you know, go around the bases and touch home. Then you win. Whoever has the most runs wins.
Thank you so much, Julio. Let's take a listen to John Schneider. This is what he had to say about his team going out there having to play a Game 7. Gotta enjoy it, man. You know, this is what we.
It's what we sign up for. Whenever you can play for Game seven to go to the World Series, it sounds kind of cool to say it, you know? But this is why we sacrifice everything. It's why players sacrifice everything. Again, it's special and unique, but you have to look at it as a game.
Good luck! Good luck. You got the uh You got the Dodgers next. That's not going to be a lot of fun.
So we'll see what happens. Game one of the World Series will take place. This upcoming Friday.
So we'll we'll keep you up to date. on this ALCS game as it continues on. A Bieber is still on the mound. He's given up uh well, he's already thrown forty five pitches at this point in time. As Seattle leads Toronto, Two, two, one.
We told you about one Monday night football game. We have another one that's going to get started in about an hour from now. and that is between the Texans And the Seahawks. God bless the caller that hit us up earlier today. He showed a whole lot of love.
It's a Seattle Seahawks starting quarterback. Sam Darnold.
Now I will not trust Sam Donald worth a damn, you know, when the going gets tough. He's had a great season so far, 11 touchdowns to only three interceptions. He certainly picked up where he left off last year. Playing for the Minnesota Vikings. But at the end of the season, we saw him.
Well, he crapped the bed. for Minnesota. He did not help them. I don't care how many victories they had. in the regular season, they stunk In the postseason, they stunk in the playoffs, and Sam Donald, I would say he was a big factor in that.
We all know that when it comes down to a quarterback. Like if you don't got a good quarterback. Your team is cooked. You suck. And so I'm happy that the Seahawks right now, they're trying to go five and two, But I don't I don't have too much confidence in them.
You know, we opened up the show talking about the San Francisco 49ers and what they did to the Falcons yesterday. We saw Matthew Stafford throw five touchdowns for the Los Angeles Rams as they beat the Jacksonville Jaguars. Realistically, Where the Sea Hawks? Are are you picking or are you taking Sam Darnold over Matthew Stafford in a game? The answer is probably Hell no The answers No.
Okay, so when you take a look at at Seattle Good for them. But they got to compete. And let's see what happens tonight against the Texans. They started 0-3. They picked up two victories.
They're trying to even up their record. Right now, and D'Amico Ryans, the head coach of the Houston Texans, he talks about what they need to do to win this game. We got to play clean football against a really good opponent who's they're coached really well. I mean, it's can't say enough about this team and how well coached they are. I think Mike has done a really great job with them from I mean the offensive side, Kubiag, what he's done, Mike with the defense.
Those guys are playing outstanding. He's referring to to head coach Mike McDonald. D'Amico Ryan's, if you remember, used to crack skulls himself. for the Houston Texans when he played linebacker. He knows a thing or two about opposing A quarterback, and D'Amico says that Sam is pretty damn good.
Listen to this. He's able to deliver the football at all three levels of the football field. He does a really nice job of throwing the ball deep. JSN did a really nice job making plays on the football as well.
So and they protect it well.
So he he's done a good job of spreading the ball around, making good decisions with the football, and that's why he's been having a really good year. Oh yeah, he's he's having a real good year. He also trying to get a little bit of help when it comes to that that that rushing attack. This is what Sam Darnold had to say about that. Like anything else, we're just continuing to evolve as an offense.
We're continuing to work on things.
So yeah, we're just going to continue to work on it Monday through Saturday, or I guess in this case, Tuesday through Sunday. And yeah, we'll be ready to roll by the time Monday night comes around. But yeah, we're always evolving as an offense. Yeah, I mean, if you gotta trust Sam Darnold to throw the ball because you can't run the ball, that is Let's just say that's asking for a Well For some failure, Okay, his own head coach Mike McDonald, he says, Yeah, we we gotta get better at this, come on. There's times where we've got to be a little more consistent across our entire offensive line.
The guys are playing hard. Um Yeah. But we got we got room to grow as well. Yeah, they got room to go. Bacha, this is a tough one.
I am not a fan of the Houstons. I'm not a fan, to be honest, of both of these teams. I think they kind of. middle of the road there. I feel like tonight is one of these kind of pick'em type games.
I would lean towards Seattle basically because they're the home team. We know how difficult it can be for the opposition to go into Lumen Field or whatever the hell they're calling it now. and uh get a victory. What what do you think about this matchup? When I look at the Texans, I just I'm not impressed by their offensive line, first of all.
Derek Stingley has been hurt, and he's also been. below his standard this year. And then on this other side, it's like the Seahawks, like you said, Sam Darnold to me can't win a big game. He can put up great numbers. against teams that are struggling and and in games where he needs to blow them out or he needs to come back.
So like he said, I it's a pick'em. But I do think that C.J. Stroud is better than Darnold, and then he can probably pull one out here. Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised.
Now, I think it's also worth noting that if you're the Houston Texans, your last games that you've gone out there and won. You beat the Ravens with an Olamar Jackson, smashed them forty four to ten, and and then the game prior to that You went out there and beat the Tennessee Titans twenty six to zero. And so it's not like the the Houston Texans have gone out here and had Competitive games, hard-fought games, and put forth a good showing. Like they beat teams that they should have beat. It doesn't matter if it's due to injury and whatnot.
They had some kind of powder puff situations here.
So, I think the Texans are going to get slapped right back to reality when it comes to Seattle tonight. Seattle most certainly will be able to go out there and put up points. I mean, they've won. For their last five games to kind of keep things rolling. CJ Stroud, he says, I don't care if we beat the Ravens with or without Lamar.
He says we gotta keep on going. A lot of guys, Sister Boggs, Baltimore, I think that's A good thing, so uh some things we can keep up and keep up our tempo and getting in out the huddle. Just operational things is good.
So keeping all that stuff up. Yeah, well, let's see what they do to night. We know getting signals across is is going to be something very difficult to do. in Seattle. And so let's see what the Seahawks do.
I'm expecting them. I believe that they're going to improve their record to five and two. I think the Texans are going to fall to two and four. I just don't think the Texans are good. Unfortunately, I think they've taken a step back due to some of the injuries that date back to last year with the wide receivers and CJ Stroud.
I think it's some tough going. You got injuries to mix in. It's a tough go all the way around. For the Houston Texans.
So that game gets started in about an hour, a little less than an hour at this point in time. As it stands, meanwhile, right now. Uh the Detroit Lions have put up another score. Jameer Gibbs, a five-yard touchdown run, uh to move the lead twenty one to nine. The Detroit Lions now lead the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
And so it looks like things are finally start to set and reality is setting in. for Baker Mayfield. One touchdown tonight to go along with one interception. And then we told you about Mike Evans going down with that shoulder issue and then all also that concussion.
So I think Baker Mayfield finally running out a little bit of magic You know, with the teammates he has. Also, keep in mind: no Bucky Irving tonight. He is still out of Mecca. Abuka did return. He has two catches, but that is not enough.
It looks like Detroit just might run away with this one. A little less than four minutes or about four minutes to go here. Uh in the third quarter. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888-710-47.
Reality setting in for Tampa Bay with all these injuries. Looks like they're going to fall. To 5-2. We'll keep you up to date, still plenty of time. And speaking of reality setting in, And I guess this is a good thing.
Is as reality set in for the Philadelphia Eagles, Okay, they they go out there and beat the Vikings yesterday. twenty eight to twenty two. And God bless AJ Brown. one hundred and twenty one yards receiving. Two touchdowns.
Okay? No reading books. Bocci, he didn't send out any miserable tweets yesterday, did he? No, he was happy with his uh stat line. Yeah, he I'm sure he was happy.
We got Jalen Hurts 326 yards passing, three touchdowns in the air. Not the game that you typically expect from Jalen Hurts. You think the Eagles are going to pound the ball.
So much criticism about the play calling and who gets the ball and who doesn't get the rock. And last night, well, or yesterday, I should say. They they got the job done. Everybody's Happy. Of course.
Okay, Jalen Hurts. Always, uh, mister Philosophical. He was asked about the team winning and Well, he had some words of wisdom. Listen to this. Within that file you have to um You have to be the call.
Um and You know, focus on executing your job, and that's all I was reiterating to the guys out there. It's bigger than just myself. You know the way it looks. See, when you win, everybody wants to call you.
Sorry about that. But um Yeah. Just it was it was a it was a team effort, you know. How about that? He's like, yeah, when you win, everybody wants to call.
I mean, for the past couple of weeks, losing two straight games. they were a bunch of losers. Jill and Hurt says, Yeah, being a loser sucks. We're not losers anymore. Because that's uh yeah, coming off the field because um That's um that that's all I could think about.
That's all I could think about. throughout these last two weeks, you know, having opportunities to finish the game. to finish the fourth quarter. I I really think this is the first time we've finished the fourth quarter. and it finished in the second half.
And so those things come up here. That's important in this game. And so, um, I think definitely there was some fire there. Oh, well, I know Nick Siriani, he's like the distant cousin of Mike McDaniel when you put a microphone in front of him. He du he never sounds confident.
Nick Siriani talked about the offense, how it changed, and putting Hertz behind center to get the ball out. Listen to this. We've obviously been in the gun for the first time. For a long time um in our offense. It's just a change of some of some of the things that we've done.
You know, we've been very successful. In the gun. And we're just trying to find ways to get things going different ways. Today it was, hey, try to get under center some. Still want to be able to run the ball more effectively and more efficiently than we did today.
But that's on all of us as coaches, as players. No, well, they got the job done. I think the Eagles are going to go 6-2. I think everything will be right in the world because their next opponent. The New York Giants.
Yeah, the same New York Giants who just blew a 32 to nothing lead. to the Denver Broncos.
So I think the Philadelphia Eagles there there's so many conversations about what their season would look like and oh, they're not doing good. Oh, two game losing streak. All of that changed in in one game.
Okay, unfortunately for the Minnesota Vikings, they had Carson Wentz out there. He threw two more interceptions. And I know everybody's just waiting to see when J.J. McCarthy will be able to go back out there and make his return. I know a lot of people are looking for that.
Speaking of returns, we talked about this earlier in the show as well. Lamar Jackson has been out with a hamstring issue. Team back to practice today after a bye week.
Somebody that did not participate, which doesn't look good. It doesn't sound good. is Lamar Jackson. They said Coach John Harbaugh didn't want to talk about it. He was asked about Lamar and the injury report, and Harbaugh's just like, leave me alone.
I think all the guys are working really hard to get back. I can tell you that.
So we'll see who's back and who practices on Wednesday. I don't really want to comment on any individual guys per se, and I'm looking forward to it. Yeah.
Well, hopefully Lamar Jackson is is going to be healthy. I mean, you're missing the league's MVP.
Well, no, he's multiple time MVP. No disrespect to Josh Allen. We've seen the Ravens just basically go straight into the toilet. 888-710-4ISN. That's 888.
seven ten four i s n Detroit Lions leading the Buccaneers 21-9 in game one. Of Monday Night Football, about two and a half minutes to go here in the third quarter.
Meanwhile, in the American League Championship Series Game 7, the Seattle Mariners lead Toronto. Two runs to one. They're heading into the fourth inning. And I told you, in about an hour, less than an hour from now, about 45 minutes, we're going to have the Texans and the Seahawks in game two of tonight's Monday Night Football doubleheader. We got a busy night.
We've had a busy day. 888-710-4ISN is the number. That's 888-710-4ISISSIN. For ISN, we are going to take a break when we come back. I want to give you an update on a team that's not playing baseball, about a Hall of Famer.
Who's looking? For a job. And then we got an Eagles future Hall of Famer. Apparently he's he's trying to come back. I'll explain on the other side, it's the J.R.

That's 888-710-4ISN. I want to bring your attention to a few people that um We we might be seeing more of, even though I mean, they've both been retired from their respective sports. We just talked about the Philadelphia Eagles and their victory over the Minnesota Vikings yesterday, but apparently, Brandon Graham. Who just retired? He's 37 years old.
He was an edge rusher. He's played a crap ton of games for the Philadelphia Eagles, longest tenured player. Apparently There there seems that there's going to be an announcement made by him to morrow. About his return. We saw Zadarius Smith basically just like quit last week.
It's real tough right now for the Eagles to get their pass rush going. You got Josh Sweat, who's gone. He's now a member of the Arizona Cardinals. Brandon Graham, even though he was older. It's still a serviceable player.
He tore his tricep, missed some time towards the end of last season, came back uh to play. We did see him in that that championship game, that Super Bowl. where he got hurt again.
Well, apparently he's gonna be Returning. And so, I mean, if he got some gas left in the tank, he You can go out there and be a situational edge rusher. That'll certainly go ahead and help out the Philadelphia Eagles.
Meanwhile, speaking of a return. When I first heard this, I had to go, what? I didn't even know he was managing. Uh it appears that Albert Pujols is is garnering interest. From multiple teams to go ahead and get a job.
I mean, the first we heard of this. was that Pooh Holst was gonna join the Angels. I don't know what his contract, you know, what he was asking for in a contract, I should say, from the Angels. But Artie Moreno is.
Well, he he's not the best of owners. And so, I don't know if he was trying to draw or drive a hard bargain, but apparently, Albert Pujos is no longer a candidate. To manage the Angels. We know they gave him all that money. Maybe that would just be enough.
But he's expected. to interview with the San Diego Padres. on Wednesday. And then also the Baltimore Orioles. have reached out to Albert Pujols.
Uh for an interview. Wow, I mean what what the hell else do you say at that point? I mean, it wasn't but two weeks ago that I learned that he was over here managing the Dominican Republic team, one of the teams in the DR as well. Um I still I still think of Albert Pooh Holstein I just go, Is he going to come back and hit more home runs? And sort of maybe, possibly, potentially See him on the bench?
I mean, we've we history has shown us we've always had you know, star players that that move on to be coaches, but I mean, whew. Botcher if I were Poohholst at forty five years old. If he stepped into a a plate and still played today, I know he'd stink. Ah He could probably give you a home run or two. You could probably still hit.
If you played every game, you'd probably get like five to ten. Yeah, he could he I'm pretty sure he could probably still play. I mean, not just pulling him off the street. Um pretty pretty wild, man. Albert Pujos, I had no idea that he was gonna be uh So highly recruited.
Wasn't he or isn't he on T V? Is he on like MLB Network or something recently? Yeah, he goes on MLB Network to do breakdowns and other stuff because I think he was partnered with them For one, the Dominican League won. And then two, I think you did a little bit of fall league or winter league.
So he's got a little connection there. Yeah, I did see something, and it was from I think earlier, maybe this season, where it's kind of crazy to think about Albert Pujol was on the same team. Which show Hail Tanny before Albert decided to call it a rap and went to the Dodgers and whatnot. Um Albert Pujost was explaining how Shohei Otani would ultimately asked him advice about his toe tap and his timing and they they kind of compared their swings, which were I don't want to say identical, but Shohei Otani, his swing with alongside Alberts, they they there's a good Good good measurable there. And so Albert Poole hosts a manager, man.
And when you think about a lot of the active guys, I'm just quickly doing a a quick scan in my brain. That may not be a good thing. He would probably be the best Former player, right? If he were to become a manager. I you gotta think of so well managing, you gotta have respect from your peers, one.
And then two, you have to know the game, but I think Mainly everyone knows the game. And then you'd have a personality. No, I'm not talking about him as a manager. I'm saying for all of the active Major League Baseball managers right now, As a former player, he would be the best. Like, there's nobody.
Most of the managers aren't. Future Hall of Famers and You know, like Curt Council, okay, he's a scrappy type of dude. There are no, like, superstar guys that were superstars when they played, right? Maybe Mattingly, but he's on the Hall of Fame. But you could you could argue that Albert Pujos is a top five to ten hitter in baseball history.
So it's like this him as a manager would be probably the best. Yeah, I mean you think about the the current crop of guys managing right now Alex Cora Eh, whatever, type of player, okay. Craig Council Yeah, he's another middle of the road guy. Dave Roberts, he had his moments. Rocco Baldelli was okay.
Aaron Boone. He was good. I think Aaron Boone may have made an all-star game or two Um No, he would he would be that guy. He'd be the uh The best Guy, the best a former player to manage, it which makes it difficult. Because in a lot of cases and I I don't know, not so much baseball, But typically star players they they they don't necessarily fare all that well.
And when it comes down to coaching, Their expectations, a lot of things that they did can come easy. It's one thing for you to be a star player. And now you need to go out there and just coach. You know uh Billy Bum, you know, player number 25 at the end of the bench. It could be a difficult thing.
uh coaches and managers that you typically see, The con What a middle of the road, dudes. In a lot of cases they're catchers. When it comes down to Major League Baseball, they understand defense and and pitching staffs and hitting as well. They have a better i idea when it comes to strategy related to the game. if Albert Poohholst comes out and is just a uh You know?
A manager? Good luck to him. I mean, what the hell do we have to base it on? The answer is is absolutely nothing. And now that I think about just all the coaches and managers that we have, like Who's who's like a big star?
I don't know. Jason Kidd comes to mind. Um Is there anybody bigger than Jason Kidd as a coach in the NBA right now from a player's perspective? Like best career-wise. Yeah, like I Doug Christie.
Doug Christie, I know, coaches Sacramento. He was a. you know, a role player. Like Steve Kerr with the rings, maybe? Uh no, he wasn't a better player than Jason.
But he's got winning. No, I'm not talking about winning. I'm talking about being a better player. Like Steve Kerr won rings, but he was nowhere near Jason Kidd. Um Yeah, Jason Kidd has to be the he's probably But letty, am I missing anybody?
Right? It gotta be kid. Nah, I think it's kid. I think the only guy that's even close is Chauncey. Oh, that's right.
Chauncey Phillips is still up in Portland. But I don't, I mean, he's not a better player than Jason Kidd was. Yeah, he wasn't. Yeah.
Yeah, it's tough it's tough getting these star guys in. Um You know, the NFL is difficult as well. You don't have star players. I mean, we're never going to see. a Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, any of these guys on the sidelines.
So I think you can throw the NFL out. Mike Vrabel is probably the uh Best dude out there that's coaching from an NFL perspective, it's tough.
So. If Albert Poulholst ends up with the Angels Well, not the Angels. The Angels obviously don't want him because they're stupid. I mean, what a shock. But wherever he ends up, if he ends up somewhere, I wish him nothing but the best.
I don't know about star dudes ending up on teams. I feel like they. They got better things to do. And they got options. They got a lot of money already.
Like what is I guess Aubrey Pooh Holes loves baseball. whatever. Anyway, it's the JR Sport Re-Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. 888-710-4ISN is the number. We're going to come back.

Hey everyone, I'm Josh Radner, and I am so excited to tell you about How We Made Your Mother, a rewatch podcast looking back at how I met your mother. And I'm here with Craig Thomas, who co-created the show along with Carter Bays. Hi, Craig. Hey, Josh.
Somehow, it has been 20 years since the show premiered. That's you know, I'm gonna check the math on that. 10 years since it went off the air, and we thought that made this a perfect time to look back, see what the hell we did, and why the show still seems to resonate with fans around the world today. Follow and listen to How We Made Your Mother, wherever you get your podcasts. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief.
It's the J.R. Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast. on the Infinity Sports Network. I can't believe I'm saying this. I'm like, damn it, I'm I'm ready for more football.
Yeah, I typically hate these damn Monday night up. Is that Cal Raleigh just cranked? Oh, he's sure as hell did. Cal Raleigh 0 for 2 He's now one for three. Cal Raleigh just cranked a home run into right field.
It's his fifth home run of the postseason. And the Seattle Mariners have now just taken a three to one a lead here against Toronto. It's the top of the fifth inning.
So Cal Raleigh, Blastin' a home run to extend this lead uh for Toronto. Julio Rodriguez uh hit a home run And now we also have Cal Raleigh. And then Botcher, of course, they bring out the stupid. Trident. If the Mariners win, well, damn it, they gotta win this game first.
If they win this World Series, what the hell do they do with the Trident? Do they just pull? Planted somewhere, what do they do? They put a museum? Put in Cooperstown.
Or the the team Hall of Fame or whatever they have, a museum. Because, you know, it'll be memorable. Where do you buy it I I guess what uh Halloween store, where they get this trident from that, looks like a high-quality trident, it might be real.
Well, I mean What are they going to call Poseidon soon? Like, what are we doing here? No, they go to like a. Is that Bass Pro Shops? Do they sell tridents?
I don't think so. I don't know. We we we let's go ask Aquaman and then we can uh We can find out. a Seattle three one over Toronto. uh right now.
We we thought that there'd be some more runs scored, and I don't think things are are done here. For Toronto's sake, you know, they're certainly hoping that they can get some more runs up on the board.
Meanwhile, in Detroit right now. Tampa Bay struggling to to put some runs up on the board, to put some scores, touchdowns on the board. Detroit currently leads the Buccaneers twenty one to nine. is about 11 minutes to go in the game here. Jameer Gibbs already has rushed for two touchdowns.
Jared Goff has thrown a touchdown to a Monroe St. Brown. He did that on the opening drive of the game. And then, unfortunately, for the Buccaneers, Mike Evans. But we shared with you Mike Evans had to exit the game.
due to a concussion and then also a shoulder injury. Mike Evans, you might recall, returning from that hamstring issue that kind of hobbled him even last year. He came back this year healthy and then he's just missed a couple of games now with that hammy.
So Hopefully Mike Evans is okay coming out of concussion protocol. I mean with the concussions you just You never know. You have no idea. And then in about twenty minutes from now, We're going to have the the Seahawks Hosting the Tennessee or Tennessee Titans. What am I talking about?
The Houston Texans are going to be in Seattle taking on the Seahawks. The Texans trying to go 3-3. And meanwhile the Seahawks, trying to improve their record, That's a five and two. Hopefully Sam Donald doesn't have to throw the ball around a lot. Uh He's had a good season of Sam Darnold so far.
Keeping them alive, not getting too much help. when it comes to the run game. Sam Darnold, eleven touchdowns this season to three interceptions.
Meanwhile, you got CJ Stroud, who's thrown eight touchdowns to three INTs.
So if we get any more runs scored, any more scores before we get out of here, I will most certainly let you know. But it is the end of the show. which only means one thing.
Well, it means a few things, but this thing it means it's time for a few things that took place this day in sports history. Back, back, back, back. Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore. But some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history.
See, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything and it was primitive and lousy and we liked it. On the JR Sport Brief Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is the JR Sport Reef Show here with you coast to coast. On the Infinity Sports Network.
Okay, it's been October 20th all day long. I can't believe it's the 20th, but it is. And if we go back to 1963, Jim Brown, one of the greatest running backs, one of the greatest players ever. He set an NFL single season rushing record mark. He passed 1,000.
eight hundred sixty three Yards. The man did it by rushing for 144 yards against the Eagles. You have OJ Simpson, who came ahead and broke the rushing record. Almost ten years later, You know, Jim Brown career, basically shot out of a cannon. wasn't there for a long time, but a good time.
He retired after nine years. God rest his soul. This is what he had to say about leaving after nine years. You know, that question is a funny question. Because other people should be able to give an answer that without me talking.
But I'll take responsibility of telling you this. The reason that you could ask me that question is because Most people don't do it. And some people make a mistake by not doing it. Mm. They always say if you stay too long to a guest, you start to smell.
So don't don't always don't overstay your Just stay, you're take your presence out.
So it was important for you to go out. As a still great running back? Absolutely. No question. Yeah, nobody wants to stick around long enough to smell.
And you want to go out on your own terms. And that's what Jim Brown did. October 20th. Nineteen seventy six.
Okay, Dr. J. He's picked up by the Philadelphia 76ers. He's moved on from the New York Nets. They sold his contract to the Sixers.
for three million dollars and I mean what did dr. J go out there and do Him and Moses Malone won a title in 83. He wins MVP in 81. He plays for the Sixers for 11 years. Dr.
J. Listen to this. This is part of his introductory press conference when he joined the Sixers. Uh well yes I've I've stated or during the uh holdout period. that had hope that we would sit down and resolve our differences as late as four o'clock.
But um Evidently, uh Over the next 12 hours. A deal was made with the Philadelphia seventy sixers And uh You know, I approve. Good deal. and decided that You know, I would become a Philadelphia 76er, and hopefully, you know, I'll be able to finish out my basketball playing career. Here with this team.
Let me tell you something. Dr. J is one of the smoothest people. Period, ever. I mean, even in his age now, Batra, have you ever seen him in person?
Not in person. I just. From from what I've seen on T V and social media, he's very calm. Very calm, very smooth, collected. He walks into a room, and you just go, Oh, damn, that's a smooth guy right there.
And shout outs to Dr. J. He's based here in Atlanta, too. Shout out to Dr. J.
October 20th. 1996 Oh, I remember this day. Andrew Jones, this guy became the youngest player. At 19 years old at the time, to hit a home run in the World Series. And not only did he hit one home run off of Andy Pettit, he hit another home run in the third.
And the Atlanta Braves decided to smoke the New York Yankees that day. They beat them 12-1 in game one of that World Series. Ultimately, the Yankees won, but Andrew Jones, he said. I'm here. Listen to this from MLB.
Lord. Drive in a left field at the track at the wall. It is gone. Andrew Jones, his second postseason home run, and it's 2-0 Braves in the second. depending on this 3-2 pitch.
Into left field.
Well hit, strawberry back. the wall another home run for Andrew Jones. A two-run homer, a three-run homer, and all of a sudden, it's 8-0 Atlanta here in the third. Yeah, I mean ultimately I told you they beat him 12 to 1. Andrew Jones with two home runs and five RBIs on that night, and then you hear a younger.
Joe Buck. October 20th. Can't win them all. 2004. This is pretty bad.
The Yankees Yeah, they went to 3-0 against the Red Sox. The Red Sox came back and beat him. Yep, that that game seven. Was today in 2004. What an ugly day that was.
The Red Sox ultimately won the game 10-3. They overcame that 3-0 deficit. First major league team to do it. And uh, you know, Johnny Damon hit that grand slam, it was just ugly from the get-go. For the New York Yankees.
Listen to these idiots. That's what the hell they called themselves. Listen to the Red Sox win Game 7 over the Yanks. This would be The fifth For the Red Sox. Since that 19-18 season.
And here it is. Round bought a second. Greece. The Boston Red Sox. Have won the tenant.
Yeah, and then the Red Sox went on and they beat the Cardinals. To win that World Series, breaking the curse of the Bambino. The Red Sox didn't win a championship at that point. Uh, since you got to go back to 1918, you raise your hand if you remember that. Also, this day in sports history, October 20th, 2023.
Kyle Schwarber passes Reggie Jackson for the most career postseason home runs by a lefty. 19.
Okay, it was a 6'5 loss to the Diamondbacks, unfortunately. Listen to Kyle Schwarber. Kyle Schwarber leads off 2-0 Arizona. 3-2 picks. Schwarber a drive into right field.
Way back. there so long Kyle Swarber His fourth home run of this NLCS. That home run for Kyle Schwarber now gives him the most among left-handers in postseason history. Yeah, I mean if we hit the fast forward button just a little bit Kyle Schwarber now at this point as it stands 23. uh home runs.
And so he is uh well, he's extending that lead. and let's see if he can continue to extend it. You know, next season with the Phillies. We know he's going to be a free agent or is a free agent once this offseason begins. And so, Kyle Schwarber is likely to be back with the Phillies.
His name is not Nick Castellano, so he's gone. Schwarber is probably going to stay. And there you have it folks, just a few things. That took place this day in sports history. It's been October 20th, all damn.
day Long. Botches sounds weird, sounds odd. Are you ready for more football? They got another game starting in eight minutes. I am.
For some reason, this football game between the Lions and the Bucs, it just. It's been sloppy. It's not like real. entertaining. It's just bad.
Like they're scoring But it's just a lot of turnovers, a lot of overthrowing passes, bad kicks, it's everything. Yeah, I mean Jared Goff has a touchdown and an interception. He threw that first touchdown on the opening play to Amon Rod St. Brown. Baker Mayfield also has a touchdown and an interception.
We talked about Mike Evans and his return from the hamstring issue. He goes down with a concussion and a shoulder issue. And as it stands right now, Detroit leads Tampa Bay. 24 to 9. The NFL is saying he he is a double header.
In Seattle, we're minutes away from the Seahawks hosting the Houston Texans. The Seahawks trying to improve their record to 5-2. The Houston Texans trying to move their season to 500. If Houston wins, they will be 3-3. I'm expecting Seattle to walk away.
With a victory at home. And then, of course, we just heard all that history, all that news in baseball, but today as it stands right now. The Seattle Mariners lead Toronto three to one. They just wrapped up the fifth inning. And um The winner moves on to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Game 1 of the World Series will be this upcoming Friday. We don't know. Who's gonna host? The Dodgers are waiting to see if they're gonna be on the road or whether or not. They're going to be at home.
Thank you so much to everybody for tuning in, locking into the show. Thank you to Michael Duarte. From NBC Los Angeles, he came through to chat with us about the Dodgers. And thank you as well, always to Bill Bender. Joining us from the sporting news, he came on by.
