as the players hate their commissioner. And the Commissioner today she responded We'll hear that in a second. Of course, we'll continue on with the show talking about NFL, MLB. NBA, we just talked about Steph Curry's wife just saying, Hey, I never wanted to have kids and be married.

Network What a day, what a day It's always been one hell of a day. Damn. Bacha, how do we get this one more hour left, and that's it? How do we get here? A lot of drama and sports.

That's how we got here. Drama. Which Which well, outside of WNBA drama, what else is drama? Baseball is drama. Plants are drama.

Yeah, we got playoffs tomorrow. I can't wait for playoffs. Yeah. I'm still mad at the uh I'm so mad that that This Phillies and Dodgers series is Only going to be five games. I feel like I'm being robbed.

I've never been robbed before. Hey, Boch, you ever been robbed? Uh in the literal sense, no. Good, let's keep it that way, okay. Yes, hopefully.

You do live in New York. There's a possibility.

Well, there's always a possibility. You could live anywhere and get robbed.

Well, you it's more people where you live. It's true. But there's also I I was gonna say there's be more people that help me, but no. In New York? Yeah, no, there's no shot.

No, people, that's a misconception about New Yorkers, right? When bad things, it's like New Yorkers don't care, they're either going to care a lot and people will help you, or they won't care. Yes. No in between. You get swarmed with help.

And people will confront people for you. Or they'll just watch you. and act like you're insane.

Well, well not if you got robbed. Ah, sometimes. It's a wild world out here. Wow, where hey, shout outs to the Yankees. They uh they play in New York.

The Yankees didn't get robbed. New York Yankees, they start their postseason, well, they start the divisional round of the postseason tomorrow. against the Toronto Blue Jays, the team that ended up winning. of the division, the American League East, and the New York Yankees, they're not They're not all that worried about it. I mean, last night they were having the time of their lives.

As they said, Goodbye. It's Sayanara. See you later. To the Boston Red Sox. That always has to feel good.

Somebody else who feels good is Aaron Boone. He's like, our team is resilient. We're the Yankees. What do you expect? And we don't rob people.

We just hit home runs. Part of this whole thing is I've talked to you guys a lot the last several weeks about how good of a club I think we have now at this time of year.

So you go into that best of three and it's It's pressure-filled, you know? And it's against a team that you know so well and is your rival, and they win game one. Um, You know, these guys just kept playing. And the Red Sox, they just keep on coming. They beat him.

I mean, the Red Sox have been beating the Yankees up for years now, at least when they've been in the postseason.

So at least the Yankees. Get a little bit of a get back. And so that'll be one to look forward to. Yankees in Toronto.

Okay, fine. I'm told you I'm looking forward to seeing the Phillies. And the Dodgers.

Somebody actually stood in front of Dave Roberts. the manager of the Dodgers. And they really asked him, Well, what is this team capable of, man? What can they do? I think we can win it all.

I think we're equipped to do that. We certainly have the pedigree. We certainly have the hunger. We're playing great baseball. And in all honesty, I don't care who we play.

I just want to be the last team standing. No well of course. I mean, they were the last team standing last year. You know what, this one isn't getting as much attention. You got Detroit and Seattle?

The Tigers, well, they blew their lead in the American League Central, and then they were able to go out there and eliminate the team that jumped them in the Guardians. And Seattle's been waiting. They finally got the offense to match the pitching that they've had all these years. Cal Riley's had this amazing year, setting all these records as a A catcher hitting all these bombs out. And Cal is like, man.

I'm just I'm just trying to keep it smooth. I think obviously, number one, you know, enjoy it, take it in. We're going to have a lot of fun. Enjoy these games. It's what you play for all year, and this is a time where.

It gets fun, you know. Everybody's gonna be on their feet, it's gonna be a packed house. gonna mean just a little more, obviously, beginning of the playoffs.

So You know, we're excited, and you know, it's just you know, finding a way to, you know, take a deep breath here and there and just, you know, resetting yourself every once in a while, every inning or so or um and just getting back to the basics and trying to keep it trying to keep it just like a a regular game, which we obviously know it's not, but um, you know, like I said, finding a way to to get back to to even and, you know, taking that deep breath.

So I can't remember this much excitement. for the Mariners in any game or any postseason since two thousand one.

Well, they won all um damn games, one fourteen, one sixteen, and then lost.

Okay. That sucked for them. I think they'll win this time. They'll beat Detroit. I mean, how many schooples are there?

The last time I checked is um One. Seattle should handle business there. And we talked about Chicago and Milwaukee. Craig Council going back to a city. A team that he left.

He says, I'm leaving Chicago. I'm leaving Milwaukee. I'm going to Chicago. The Milwaukee guy said I'm gone. What a turncoat that guy is.

And then he had the nerve to tell everybody: like, it's not a big deal. I'm just going back. He wanted to keep it all about baseball. I hope they boo. They'll live in hell at them.

And he's going to get booed. eight eight eight seven ten four I S N That's 888-710-4ISN. Tony is calling up from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. You're on the JR Sport Re Show. Yeah, what's up, Tony?

Jailer, how are you, man? I like that intro from Montreal, Quebec, Canada. That's nice. I like that. You're going to speak French?

Are you going to speak French with us now? I can para in France totally. Do I speak French? No, I don't. I know how to say one phrase in French.

You ready for it? You ready for it? Go for it. It's Jeta Coupe. Yeah.

You know, tell everybody what it means. Tell everybody what it means. Just a coupe, I think you're talking about I'll cut you, no? That's exactly what I said, yes. That's all I know.

Don't ask me why I know that, but I do. Uh I don't know. Mm. It's an interesting concept sentence, but I don't know why you'd say that. But anyway, unless you want to get rid of me real quick, you say shut the cook, bang, I'm gone.

Yeah. No, I'm not gonna catch you. Go ahead.

Okay. I just wanted to I was gonna talk about the Yanks, but Steph Curry's wife, man, sounds like a lady that's not a happy person. And I love Steph Curry, but why would you go on TV, radio, or podcasts and talk nonsense about your husband, man? Come on. You think she talked nonsense about her husband?

You think that's what she just did? I don't know, just why you're not happy being married to a superstar. She didn't say that. She didn't say that. Okay.

I didn't hear, I just heard what you said. I'm sorry, man. If she didn't say that, then I'll take it back. But. She was saying that, and we hear this a lot.

Are you married, Tony? You married? Oh yeah.

Okay, all right, okay, all right.

So but I got it, this is treading careful, carefully here. Um There are a lot of women, not j it doesn't matter if you got Steph Curry, it doesn't matter who your husband is, right? There are a lot of cases. Where women have to sacrifice Their time and their goals to start a family. Like, you know this, Tony, right?

You know this. Oh, for sure. I got an Italian wife. I know what it's about.

So, all she said was. what we already know. She verbalized it. She just so happens to be married. And she has a family with Steph Curry.

She didn't say anything. She didn't say, oh man, I'm sick of this guy. Oh, I regret marrying him. And she said. I never envisioned being married and having kids.

She said she was career-oriented. But, well, look what happened. She's she's a mom, so you gotta push your own stuff to the back burner, which is why. We should appreciate a lot of women because they help bring life into the world for many reasons. I appreciate all women, including my mother and my All my cousins and anybody I I was ever with that is associated with women.

But okay, I got you. It's Mother's Day. It's Mother's Day somewhere. It's October 3rd.

Some country has to be celebrating Mother's Day, right? I I think we're doing it right now between our two countries.

Okay. Yeah, America. We're making up. We're making up. Yeah.

I just want to say this about the Yanks. I know they're coming to Canada tomorrow and the Blue Jays. have been fear I don't know if they're fearing them or not, but I've been listening to the podcast and the radio station in both countries. And all I can say is the Yanks are on. Pickups.

McMahon at third really was something else last night. They went to the dugout yesterday. Yeah, that was crazy. But you know what I liked? When he went flying in there, he came out and he didn't look at one of the Red Sox guys And he didn't take any help from them.

He just like went in and he got himself out and he kind of ignored everybody, kind of saying, I'm good, man. I don't need your help. I'm never going to need your help, which I liked. I liked that. He's sticking to his guns.

You know, he's feeling that today, too, possibly, right? Unless he landed just with his arm and his arm braced him.

Something like that. EJR He landed hard, man. He did that catapult, and his legs probably hurt today. But I'm going to shout out Volpe. For all the abuse that that kid took out of New Jersey, being a homegrown kid.

I said, you know what? I feel for that kid. I'm going to send them my best. restaurants A chicken cacciatori and some bolognese, and I'm going to settle him up and send that down air freight. Let him have that and tell him I appreciate him.

I hope he heard me say that. And I love that thing comes up Send some send some to Atlanta too while you're at it, okay? I need them hungry. Hey, listen, I'll send you I'll send you something, no problem. I love it.

Hey, listen, you used to have the flames before they went to Calgary, so Atlanta was hot line.

Now we got nothing. And now they want to move. They're like, we want to put another one in the burbs. I'm like, don't bring no NHL team out here. It didn't work out.

Yeah, you know, but Atlanta is a is a great place, and the NHO wants to make the big bucks, you know, because it's waste of time. But hold on, Tony, before I let you go, because I got to let you go. Yes, sir. Listen to that. Mother's Day is celebrated in Argentina on the third Sunday of October.

Okay, um Thank you too much. Yeah, Belarus. Belarus celebrates Mother's Day on October 14th. Oh my god. Vietnam.

Vietnamese Women's Day is October 20th.

So if you want to celebrate more women, there you have it, okay? I might have to visit all those countries to pick up all those honeys, but my wife wouldn't be too happy about that. Listen, you know what? We're bringing women's rights and women's. uh whatever uh their right to uh admonish us And make us look like fools on the radio.

That's good. I'll take the beating. I'll take the beating. No problem. I don't know.

I miss I messed up on Curry's wife, so he's one of my favorites.

So all kudos to Miss Curry. Happy Mother's Day in Argentina and Happy Mother's Day out in Vietnam. I'm sure you'll enjoy those days. Yeah, we'll get there soon enough. Thank you, Tony, from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

Thank you. I'll call you back sometime. Oh, please do. Bye-bye, Tony. Shout out to Tony.

There you have it. For anyone who was, well, let's get this out the way.

Well, damn it, he has a translator. I had to translate everything that Aisha Curry had to say. And I gotta listen to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. This is what he had to say on taking on the Yankees through his translator. Definitely very proud, very proud about starting uh this very important series against uh Our fans, our family, it's very important for us.

The most important thing for me, it's winning. It's winning. We gotta win, we gotta find a way to win, regardless how I feel. For me, that's the only thing in my mind. We gotta find a way to win games.

Every time I wake up, that's my focus. That's all I have in my head, my mind. thinking about the way to win some games and to bring the World Series. Uh back to Durant. Man, if I was getting five hundred million dollars, I wouldn't speak no English either.

Okay. Vladimir is like, they gave me $500 million to hit a baseball. Why do I need to stand up here and speak English? In Toronto. It's not Man, if they pay me five hundred million dollars to sit here, I'd just be saying whatever the hell I want to say either.

Damn. Here, now let's listen to Aisha Curry. Here's Aisha Curry telling everybody, just to be clear. She didn't say she regrets being married. She just said that I had goals, and they did not include everything that I have now, you know, before I got married.

Listen to Aisha Curry. I didn't want kids. I didn't want to get married. I thought I was gonna be career girl, and that's it. And I had my eyes set on my goals, and I was never the little girl that like dreamt about the wedding dress and all of that.

And then it happened so early in my life.

So it's one of those things like you don't, you don't know what you want. You actually don't know what you want. Man, some people just been rich for so long they just forget what the normal world is like. Hey, how about this? eBay is home to millions of finds, and each one becomes part of your story from your favorite vintage band.

To the dream car you've been searching for. It's all there. eBay. Things people People. Love.

Oh, how about this? LeBron James not playing in tonight's Lakers' first preseason game against the Suns? Abacha, this is an interesting injury. Uh Can we just say he's out because he's old? Do we got to come up with something?

Hey, uh i if you actually read what the injury is, I think it's more funny that way.

Okay. My interpretation is that it is a bruised Is it a bruised or strained ass? It's a strained ass cheek, right? It's a strained ass, yeah. Yeah, yeah, straight up.

But he's he's on a YouTuber's stream.

So Whoa, must not be hurting that bad.

Well what a Uh You got a strange backside. It's You can be on the internet, right? No, but he was like dancing. On the stream, too. Maybe he strained a cheek dancing.

I don't know. Maybe, but it's just a little. It's possible. It's probably just: hey, here's a phantom injury, so you don't have to play. This meaningless basketball yesterday.

Gonna be 41 years old? Who needs LeBron in preseason? Who cares, right? It's like every game that he plays gonna play like 60 games. Play maybe one preseason.

I'm gonna be surprised that you don't play no preseason games. Aluka is out as well due to uh to rest.

Okay. The J.R. Sport Brief Show on the Infinity Sports Network. We're going to take a break when we come back. I'm going to tell you somebody who ain't playing.

Well, that's Lamar Jackson. And then, also, we got more baseball coming. We're going to have a conversation with Ron Blum. From the AAP, he covers all things, Major League Baseball. We'll talk to him in a few minutes.

You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here on the Infinity Sports Network. 888-710-4ISN. That's eight eight eight seven ten. four I S N Right now on the lines.

We got someone joining us to talk. Major League Baseball. Tomorrow. It's Saturday, october fourth. starts the divisional round Of the postseason.

Yeah, we got eight teams left. after we've dispatched, well, all of the teams and the Reds, Yesterday. Joining us right now to talk all things baseball. Give us a preview of what we can expect starting tomorrow. is Ron Blum who covers all things MLB for the Associated Press.

Hey, Ron, thank you for the time. Hey, how you guys doing? Very well. I mean, there's so many teams that obviously garner a lot of attention: the Yankees, the Dodgers, Philadelphia, what have you. Milwaukee, they they seem to be kind of You know, just under the radar right now.

What are your thoughts on what we can expect from the Brewers as they get ready to take on Chicago?

Well, it's kind of an emotional matchup with uh Craig Counsel going in against his ex-team. run by Path Murphy, his former bench coach.

So I'm sure there's going to be a lot of excitement at the exchange of lineup cards and then a lot of emotion between the teams. And Milwaukee always has the feeling that it's going up a much bigger fan base. when it plays against the Cubs. When you think about the way that the Brewers play baseball, it seems a little old school. It seems like they buck the trend of what we typically see: all or nothing baseball, strikeouts are nothing, home runs are nothing.

They got guys stealing bases, they got pitchers, they have a very diverse standpoint. Do you think they've been overlooked this season? They are overlooked a little just because of where they play in such a small market. They're not a glamour team. They don't get a whole lot of national television games.

And like a lot of the postseason teams, they go into the postseason a little bit beat up. They say Brandon Woodruff won't be available in the series at all.

So we'll see. If you remember last year, they were in position to beat the Mets in that wildcard round in advance until Devin Williams gave up that home run to Pete Alonso. Or do you believe that they'll get past the Chicago Cubs and move on to take on either the Dodgers or the Phillies? Look, any of these teams can advance. I would say if they played 100 times, the Cubs would probably win 55 or 58 of them.

But that's the beauty of baseball, that you never know, and all it takes, especially in these short postseason series is a bloop or something weird we saw last night with the Yankees Red Sox game. It turned on a pop fly into the Bermuda Triangle in right center and then a C and I hit just past the second baseman in a ground ball that hit the first baseman's glove and bounced high into right field. Ron Blum is here with us, covers all things baseball for the Associated Press. You talk about the New York Yankees. We saw them beat the Red Sox yesterday 4-0.

And well, we heard from Aaron Boone when it comes down to Schlittler. He's like a star is born. Do you think he can be counted on consistently and maybe the Yankees can ride a little bit of a wave when he's on the mount?

Well, they certainly did in the second half of the season. He came up right before the all-star break and only because Clark Schmidt on a torn elbow ligament is This is a kid who started the season at Double H Somerset, got promoted to AAA. and then got called up only in an emergency. And He's put on four or five miles an hour on his fastball over the last three years since the Yankees drafted him and then put another mile or two on him last night. Uh there was by four of the highest velocity he's ever shown yet.

Let's see pitches over a hundred miles a hundred miles an hour or higher. Hey, Ron, I think we we might let's let's put run on on hold for a second. I think We might be having some some issues with with Ron's A connection. Maybe we were talking about people robbing people in New York City. I don't know.

Maybe we talked about the Yankees. They decided to rob. that Ron of of his connection. Here we got hey Ron, you still here, you good? I'm here.

I can hear you fine.

Okay, perfect.

Now we got Ron back.

So we've seen what he's been able to do in stepping up. The Yankee fans are always looking out for blood. If they don't win a World Series, it's all for not. They just got to go out there. And fire everybody.

Do you think the Yankees are going to represent the American League in the World Series again? They have a chance. The key is the bullpen has been their Achilles yield. In the second half of the season, it's had one of the worst ERAs. in the major leagues.

And at various times, Luke Weaver and Definite Williams And then Fernando Cruz. Have all faltered. Bednar has been the most solid of them, but Weaver, since he came back from the hamstring injury, And Cruz, since he came back from the lat injury, they haven't been the same.

Well, Ron, much maligned for their bullpen as well, happens to be the Los Angeles Dodgers. I'm upset that they're going to take on. Philadelphia in this round, and it's only going to be maximum five games. What are your thoughts on who's coming out of this one? It seems like a coin flip.

But the Dodgers, yeah, they got their own bullpen issues as well. Yeah, I mean the Phillies are probably a stronger lineup, but the Dodgers have so many pieces, they show what 500 million buys. that Otani is going to fit pitch his first postseason game. tomorrow they've been able to move lots of uh people into the bullpen.

So No other bullpen has uh believers who've been starters with the pedigree. of a Clayton Kershaw or Bright Going back to Japan over a road kisasaki. Yeah, they certainly have the depth there. You talk about depth, that Seattle's going to take on Detroit. the Mariners for years.

They've been throwing all the pitchers out there. They finally got all these bats, bringing in Suarez. And what are your thoughts? C can't Seattle as well maybe go past the Yankees or Toronto?

Well, like could Seattle I think against Detroit is probably the mi biggest advantage in terms of team strength in the fourth series. You look at Detroit. Had the big, big winning streak earlier in the season, but the Tigers closed. terribly almost missed the playoffs, lost twelve of their last fifteen games. and then took on a Cleveland team that was probably just about even or at its own level or just lower.

So Barring a surprise, Seattle, if it plays well, should win that series and play the Yankees or Toronto for a place in the world. Sure. Who do you think ultimately is gonna lift up the Commissioner's trophy? You never know. I'm loath to predict who's going to go in these things because.

Like I said, these games can turn on a balancing. you have If you look at the strongest possible teams. I mean, the Yankees and the Dodgers, as you said, both have bullpen issues. Seattle might not have the strongest rotation and might have Some holes through 7-8-9 in the batting order, the same the Yankees against certain pitches. Pitchers.

Uh they've had struggled with McMahon and slumps. Volpi in an extended slump.

So you just have to see how it plays out. Or Ron, I know one team that they ain't winning the World Series. That's the Mets. They decided to fire everybody, not named Mendoza, basically today. What adjustments can we expect from them throughout the course of the offseason?

It can't be any major ones, right?

Well, I would think they're going to go for healthier pitchers. They certainly uh didn't have much success with Zenga, Minaya, and Montas this year. But as they make moves, I think everyone's looking ahead to the possibility of no. 2027 season, and then possibly a salary cap starting to phase in in 28.

So that's going to start affecting some of the spending decisions too.

Well, Ron, do you you believe that there's going to eventually be a salary cap in Major League Baseball to correct all this wild spending?

Well, I don't know correct it's not a correction. It's what teams seem to want and I think in this negotiation Teams might press for it more, knowing in the Republican administration, the union can't run to a national labor relations board.

So I think certain elements of management will push more for a capitalist go round. How what we we've heard for years now, Tony Clark as well as the players, they have screamed and yelled. I mean, we see the disparity. Not everybody in the big leagues is running around with a $700, $750 million contract. Uh w what changes between now and then?

Well the But the bargaining agreement expires on december twenty sixth.

So then it becomes a question of negotiations and what each side can get. In the clubs. At least. based on public evidence, are financially getting ready At a level, maybe that the players can't meet, we'll have to see how the players with withheld licensing money. and they set up to distribute it but i think everything goes back to the Yeah.

for negotiations for the lands agreement where the clear Directly the board split. And uh and executive subcommittee voted to continue waiting to try to get a better deal and overall better rent deal with acceptance.

So I think that sent the signal also to management. But they should. They might want to push harder to try to get it.

Okay. Well, wild it'll be wild if if it takes place. Hey, Ron, thank you so much for the time and joining us. We appreciate you, okay? All right, good to be with you.

Have a good evening. You as well. Thank you to Ron Oblum for joining us. Covers all things baseball for the Associated Press. Yeah, man, we talked we talked the postseason.

The phone went out for a second, but if there was one striking thing is that He believes that you know, we may actually have a salary cap in a couple of seasons and in Major League Baseball. Damn. What a change that would be that be absolutely Nuts. That this might be the the golden era. Like baseball has been the holdout on a salary cap, but uh I guess if you got a salary cap, you're also going to have to have a floor there.

Maybe that'll be good news. It's just, is this sustainable? I mean, what we have right now, it can't be. Like, we're going to have guys making $700, $750 million a year, and then you're going to. Pay back end guys who are still good on the team.

Hey, man, you're getting 10. I don't know. It's it's gonna slow down some of the spending. But at the same time, who the hell is handing out deals in the $700 million range besides teams? And I don't know.

And New York, maybe Chicago, maybe possibly. Um You know New York was doin' that. And Bileti, wouldn't that be nuts if we had a salary cap in baseball? Yeah, I'm still one of those guys. I got to see it before I believe it.

I mean, that's the one thing the players have always been hell-bent about. That's why we didn't have a World Series in 94. They're not giving you that.

So I can't imagine what the owners. could present to the players to allow them to Say, yeah, and sign off. It's okay. We'll cap the money that we can make. That's the one thing that they won't do.

There's gonna, but there's somehow, some way, there's gonna be a bubble that bursts. Like I just don't feel. Like this is sustainable. And who knows? I don't Who the hell is there a guy?

There's no guy playing right now. That's going to get a contract bigger than Soto's. Would you say so? I mean, like, actively on a big league roster. Ain't nobody making more than that.

No. Not right now. I mean, look, we don't know who that next guy is, but no, because I mean, Otani's already got his contract signed. And it's also the It becomes the The perfect storm, because you also have to have the age that goes with it, too. I mean, Aaron Judge would have got a contract probably somewhere in that area, but he was 30, 31 when he came up for it.

Soda was 26. It has to be all the perfect pieces.

So, look, how long did A-Rod have the highest contract when he signed with the Rangers in 01 with 252? How long was that the highest paid contract? A decade, more? Yeah. Sometimes it's just the way everything kind of comes together.

I I struggle that somebody else is going to get an 800 now this year. Yeah, I think Major League Baseball, I think they're going to go to hell in a handbasket before we see another contract bigger than that. And before we even get there, there's going to be some type of uh Correction. The economics of baseball in a lot of cases sometimes are more interesting to me. Than, not the games, but it's more so than other sports.

It's just, there's no norm here. No, it's the wild, wild west, and it just does not seem sustainable. Like, they're going to hell. I'm not arguing that, but the funny part is when you look at it from the outside, just without any knowledge of it, and you go, well, teams that are at the bottom, like the A's or the Pirates or the Rays, they would love the salary cap. Uh, no, they wouldn't.

They want to fight against it because they don't want the salary floor, they don't want anybody telling them they got to spend a certain amount of money. They're like, No, no, no, we're good with where we are. And the funny part is, if you told the Yankees there's a salary cap, maybe 30 years ago they would have complained.

Now they'd be like, Great, we don't have to fight the Mets for Won Soto, we don't have to fight for. Tremendous. There's only like two or three teams, maybe the Dodgers, the Philippines. There's only a few that the Mets want. Bruh.

No cap because they want to overspend. Everybody else wants to be in the middle. When you think about what we just saw, the Dodgers going out here and just walking through the Reds, and yeah, the Reds will probably be better over the next couple of years. When you put in the taxes, It's $500 million on a payroll for the Dodgers versus like $100 for the Reds. I mean, what are we doing here?

No argument. But, like I said, and if you asked a lot of those teams like the Pirates, they don't want to pay that floor. Oh, we know that. Right.

So, where the hell are we? And that's why, like, players are probably looking at it going, and then we're going to give you a cap because we can't get the most, but then you still don't want to spend. Like, this is a mess, and I hate to say it. This is a strike, lockout, whatever the hell you want to call it, stoppage of baseball that's lurking and looming. And I hope we don't get there, but I feel it's inevitable.

Oh, it happens. It's baseball. Yeah, right. And just how it goes. I mean, we had a damn pandemic, and they were just like, hey, this is going to be the pre- The pre-strike, get used to it.

The pre-lockout. We're going to have one once we come out of the pandemic. Get used to it.

So. What a wild, wild world. The J.R. Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. When we come back, we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history.

We'll hear from Angel Reese, who has some. High praise for herself with a shock. And then, unfortunately, yeah, we're going to look through some of these NFL games and think about some of the players that we won't see to get an update on everything in the world. The sports, you just heard him. We like him.

You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. Possibly. Hey, this NASCAR race preview is sponsored by WeatherGuard, truck and van equipment. They're just as driven as the hardworking pros they serve. Oh, yeah, they are in Charlotte.

NASCAR is this entire weekend. Charlotte Motor Speedway. They start today. You got tomorrow. You got Sunday.

Bank of America. Roval 400. And this is going to be interesting. Kyle Bush. He got a new crew chief.

You like switch things up in the middle of the week. Let's see how that works out for him. Yeah, we've talked about everything. MLB NASCAR. WNBA NFL games, yo, this sucks.

There's Noel Lamar Jackson. Jaden Daniels is back. J.J. McCarthy is not going to be in London. That's things for him.

You know, he's not going to play. You got Carson Wentz taking on Dylan Gabriel. I'm sure that'll be an interesting one on Sunday morning. Lots of turnovers and ugly football. Yeah, we just got to see what happens.

And speaking of ugly. Angel Rhys says she's not ugly. She says that's why people need to give her a break. She says people hate her guts. They don't like her.

They're not a fan because they think she just needs to stick to basketball. Listen to what Angel Reese said. About people who criticize her. Listen to this. Just because I'm fine does not mean that I don't take basketball seriously.

Like, that whole gig, that whole gag, like, let's give it up. Like, I'm sorry, I like I'm sorry, like you gotta talk to my mom. Like, I'm sorry, like. I'm sorry. Being fine is just I have to, like, like, it's my thing.

Like. I do. But I also hoop. Like, I got up this morning and worked out. Went to get my makeup done.

I maximized my full 24 hours, so I am very sorry. Actually, I'm really not sorry, but I'm sorry to those that feel some type of way that. they can't be fine and play basketball. Like, I'm sorry. Like, I'm sorry.

Oh, boy. Yeah. She's becoming even more unlikable than what she was. Anyway, I hope she has a bright future ahead of her. It's time for us to go back in time to a few things that took place this day in sports history.

Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore. But some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history. See, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything and it was primitive and lousy and we liked it. On the JR Sport Brief Show.

I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is October 3rd. 2025, October 3rd, 1974 Frank Robinson. He signed a contract with the then Cleveland Indians $175,000. He became the first black manager in Major League Baseball history.

Listen to Frank Robinson. Let's talk about the feet. I don't see any real pressures as far as I'm concerned being the first black manager. I don't see Anyway. Goals I have to achieve is being the first black manager.

I know outsiders, the public. The prayers And other black people are going to put an awful lot of pressure on me because of that. They can do that, but the Pressure from within me is not fair. The only thing that I'm gonna have to do is go out here. And Be the manager of this ball club and do the best job that I can do.

Is show up and be the best that you can be. Facts. October 3rd, 1976. Shoutouts to Hameron. Hank, God rest his soul.

Hank Aaron, he singled in his last and final MLB at bat. Drove in. His 2,297th run. But the Brewers lost five two. To the tigers, listen to Dusty Berker talk about one of the nicest humans I ever met.

I met Hank Aaron. Biggest impact, he told my mother he'd take care of me as if I was his son, took care of me. Away from home and make sure that I do the right thing, make sure that I go to church. Make sure that I ate right.

So I was go over his house all the time, me and Ralph Garr.

Well, you know what Hank gave us, he gave us focus and concentration. And this guy, he gave us hard work. Because to watch him. And I use this to this day. You hope that your best player is your best citizen at the same time.

And Hank, was externally humble. but internally super confident. But but you never heard him. Say anything, brag on himself. I never heard him say anything.

You know, me, I was hankering. I'm like, man, I am bad. You know what I mean? I ain't never. Oh, yeah.

I've never heard him say that. You know what? Let's go from a nice guy to a not-so-nice guy. October 3rd. Mark McGuire, he's a nice guy.

He hit his 65th home run.

Okay, Cardinals went over the Cubs 9-5. It was his second straight home run title over Sammy Sosa. Sammy finished with 63. These are two nice guys who use drugs: Jose Canseco. I don't know if he's a nice guy.

He's like, man, if Mark Maguire was actually ever healthy, he'd be hitting a lot of home runs. Averages One home run every 10 at-bats? Best in history. Even better. Then your man bonds.

If Mark McGuire would have stayed healthy, This man would have hit 900 more. People don't know this about him. In 1987, he came into the league to the Oakland Coliseum. He wasn't doing using steroids back then. Oakland Coliseum was rated the worst Ballpark to hit home runs?

And for batting average, the biggest foul territory in history. Absolutely. The man hit 49 home runs his rookie year. Wow. If he would have been in Colorado in a dome, anywhere else, he would have broken the home run record.

Mark McGuire would have broken the homeroom record. Period, without using PDC, he would have broken it anyways just because of his swing and the type of player he was. And if I were Barry Bonds, I'd be playing baseball.

So, yeah, woulda, coulda, shoulda. October 3rd, 2015, Max Scherzer, his second no-hitter. In the season, one season for Washington, he struck out 17 guys. The Nats beat the Mets 2-0. Listen to Sherza, get it in on Madsen.

17 strikeouts tonight. Broken bat pop-up on the infield. Scherzer has done it again. He has thrown two no-hitters. Against two playoff teams, the Pirates.

And now the Mets. Yeah, now Max Scherzer, and now he's trying to stay healthy. Hey, how about this day as well, October 3rd, 2021? That was four years ago, Tom Brady. Became the all-time leader in career passing yards.

He went by, Drew Brees, said bye, see you later. This is what Tom Brady had to say about one of his many records. I know some people that have kind of preceded it by name. You know, Drew Brees, who I look up to, is a hell of a guy. Great player Peyton Manning, who's one of my all-time favorites.

Spread Farr, Dan Marino. Um But obviously, you know, my teammates who caught all these passes over the years mean an awful lot to me. Yeah, he caught so he threw. Never mind, let me leave that joke alone. Leave that alone.

He owns a team, part of a team. He threw so many passes, his wife said, no, thank you. He's just uh... He loves what he does. He loves football.

I love football too, not like Tom Brady. Anyway, those are a few things that took place this day in sports history. Thank you to Ron Blum for joining us. To talk about all the matchups that we're going to see in the divisional round of the Major League Baseball Playoffs starting tomorrow. Thank you to my main man, Nick Hamilton, joining us from Los Angeles, from Nightcast Media.

Enjoy it all, okay? I can't wait to see Penn State beat up on UCLA. I want to see a blood blast. Enjoy Clemson and. In North Carolina.
