The Green Bay Packers are leading the Washington Commanders seven to nothing. They just got underway here in the second quarter. quarter. And give you a few details in a moment because I mean, damn, Washington is getting a ass kicked. They can get back into this game any minute, any second.
But the first quarter Pretty ugly. Very, very ugly. Hey, thank you to Josh Moser for joining us. Sports anchor from seven news down in Miami. He called us up.
We spoke to him about how ugly Things are looking. for the Miami Dolphins. Yeah, things are looking real bad. uh for the Miami Dolphins, okay? We talked some college football, took a look at some of the matchups and games that we anticipate.
The good ones over the weekend, like Georgia, Tennessee, USF, and Miami, is. Notre Dame gonna go out there and beat Texas A and M they should. We had a great chat with Matt Moore from the Action Network, covers all things NBA. Talked about the latest in Kawhi Leonard's situation. just talked about the conclusion of the WNBA season.
whether or not this is going to be the final season for LeBron James. And we have so much more to do. In about 20 minutes, we'll have a conversation with Jennifer Lee Chan from NBC Sports Bay Area. Because the 49ers, their injuries just keep coming and coming and coming. I mean uh The Dolphins, well, the 49ers haven't turned into the Dolphins.
Uh but that might happen. A sooner. Then later.
So we got a lot to do. I'll have that conversation with Jennifer. In about twenty minutes, At the end of the show, of course, we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. Uh today's certainly a uh Uh Can't even think about the proper adverb. I can't even think about the proper description.
Today is September 11th, something that I unfortunately. Had to live through because I w I went to high school right across the street. from the World Trade Center.
So not a not a fun thing to remember. But there are people who have worse memories and have uh suffered worst. Worse losses.
So we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. at the end of the show. If you want to be a part of the show, you certainly can. eight eight eight seven ten four I S N That's 888. 710.
Four I S And you can find me online. I exist all over the internet. I am at JR Sport Brief. I'm at JR Sport Brief all over the internet. Right now, as it stands in Green Bay, I told you we got this matchup going on between Green Bay.
in Washington The Packers lead seven to nothing. About two and a half minutes have gone by here. Uh in the second quarter. In the first quarter of action, Washington basically, unfortunately for them, they just had to punt the ball. But in the first quarter They only generated 11 Yards of offense.
Green Bay Had one hundred and fifty one yards.
Okay? That's one hell of a discrepancy. Green Bay is up seven to nothing. Washington hasn't done a damn thing. I expected this.
to be a shootout. Our producer Ryan Bacha said, Man, Green Bay should whoop that ass.
Well, so far they're doing so. And now, with the ball back in their hands, they're going to have an opportunity to go out there and do it again. Already for Jordan Love. 128 yards passing. He has a touchdown that he threw to Josh Dobbs.
They were on the board? and they're going to have a chance to put some more points up. as well. Jordan Love He spoke prior to this game. And Jordan Love says our offense Oh man, we got a lot.
We're loaded. We're full of weapons. We're deep. Listen to what Jordan Love said. I think it's a group that we've had and then I think we've just added even more with MG and Say.
So, you know, I think that's always been a cool part about our offense that we've got so many weapons all across the board and guys who, you know, can actually come in and have an impact every time they're on the field and touching the ball. Yeah, well listen, Jaden Daniels on the opposite end of things. He's only passed for 20 yards. He's already been sacked. And I guess you can consider this young man to be an oracle.
He says the Packers their defense. Um It's not easy. They're flying around. If you see the last game, man, they're flying around. Uh they're very sound up front.
They want to keep everything in front of them so they can rally and tackle and uh let those guys get out there to pass her. Green Bay leading Washington seven to nothing. About twelve minutes to go here, And the first Have. Hey, Bacha, we still got plenty of time, man, but they're whooping that ass right now, man. What is Washington?
Does Washington know the football game started? Think they do. But they thought that last year they could just come from behind in the fourth quarter and they might try that again today. They might. I mean, you think about some of the comebacks, it's crazy to think we've already moved on to week two of the NFL season.
I get it. We had that big comeback on Sunday night. with the Buffalo Bills and the Ravens. We had that big comeback on Monday night. with the Minnesota Vikings uh going out there and J.J.
McCarthy beating the Chicago Bears. Are we getting another comeback? I don't know. I know that Jordan Love, he ain't gonna be shy in getting his rock all over the place. Uh Jordan Love.
It's lighting it up already.
Now, with an opportunity, oh, he just threw who is somebody going to cut. Oh, you got it. Oh, damn. That was a deep one. Bach, what was that?
Would you say about uh 50 yard throw? 40, 50 yard. Yeah, and he just missed it. You're behind, too. I'm watching my phone because we don't have any TVs here in the station.
Wait a minute. Y'all don't have Amazon in the. The studio? Do I know how to get it on a TV? Is a separate issue that I have to find out during the break.
Oh my god. Yeah. But I have a ma I have a makeshift T V in the size of my iPhone.
Well, that's not a makeshift T V. It's everything now is a screen. There's no uh You know, there's no differentiating a screen. A screen is a screen, right? Yeah, but it's a little different when you're looking at a a smaller phone compared to uh a solid T V slash monitor.
Is it? Here I go. I don't want to say people your age, but I thought younger people want to watch things on their phone instead of a TV. It's an extra source, but it's a lot harder to watch on your phone because it's smaller. Ah, d does it really matter?
Let me see. Here I am in the studio. I have act up, no, I don't. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Anyway. We'll keep you up to date on this game as it continues on. Green Bay beating up on Washington. It's only 7-0, but they're beating up on them. with an opportunity to get some uh some more points here on The board.
Now, we open up the show giving you kind of an update on some unfortunate things. We got Jordan Love and Jaden Daniels out here. Even though Jaden Daniels is uh not having the hottest of starts, And we got another quarterback who we will not see. on Sunday. That happens to be Brock Purdy.
Brock Purdy dealing with the shoulder issue. The San Francisco 49ers will tell you it's more of a toe issue right now at this point. And from Brock Purdy's perspective, he could be out not just this week against the Saints. But much, much. Longer.
Their general manager, John Lynch, he was on the radio, KNBR in San Francisco. And he gave some thoughts on the report that Brock Purdy could be out. Man, more than a month listen Um what I can confirm is I talk to obviously our trainer. Our doctor Um doctor Anderson, who's the you know the preeminent foot and ankle specialist in our in in the NFL. Um and um you know what what we're dealing with is like kind of a week to week thing.
So that's our information. Brock's doing well coming back from it, and we'll just treat it as such. He's doing a nice job, doing everything he can to get back out there as soon as possible. And so That's where we're at. That's that's not all that encouraging.
And then We got to look at Mac Jones.
Well, not we. I don't got to sit down and watch him. The 40 Nonas fans got to look at Mac Jones. Ugh. Last year, When Trevor Lawrence went down, When Trevor Lawrence went down for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Mac Jones was the replacement.
He was the backup, he was the starting quarterback. And I get it, it's the Jaguars. His record was two and five. Ouch. Eight touchdowns, eight interceptions.
For a since Francisco 49er's team that's looking to make some moves, make some hay this upcoming season, now they got to pay Brock Purdy all this money to not play. They got rid of all those veterans that were already old and busted up. John Lynch. Do you really believe in in Mac Jones as the starting QB? Are you kidding me?
Yeah, we're really pleased to have have Mac here. Um was a guy back in the draft. process, you know, we studied a lot, really liked Um you know, has had his ups and downs in his uh NFL. But since he's been a part of us, really has taken to our offense. really fits our culture.
Uh he could run our office. And run it well. don't have to change a whole lot when he's out there. I'm excited to see him get an opportunity. to go show what he can do.
And you know. We gotta we gotta go uh put together another solid uh effort on the road in that in another tough Place to play in New Orleans. Max just done a Really good job every step of the way. You could see. his confidence grow and grow and grow and Uh where we got in training camp and he was really Like as I said earlier, functioning at a high level, it gives you a lot of confidence to go out there and play a game.
if you have to, like right now. And so we're Excited about that. Am I supposed to believe anything John Lynch says about a quarterback? Like he lucked his way into Brock Purdy. And then it was the complete opposite.
He was super gung-ho on Trey Lance. And where's Trey Lance on like his fourth NFL team right now not playing? You sitting around being back up, back up to the back up to the back up. for the Los Angeles Chargers.
So I I'm not trusting him about nothing. He just gave us a lot of lip service when it came down to Mac Jones. You know what? I told you, we're going to have this conversation. In about fifteen, not even fifteen minutes, about five to seven minutes.
We're going to have a chat with Jennifer Lee Chan. NBC Sports Bay Area. I want to get her thoughts. on the forty niners. Because I know it's early in the season, they've only played one damn game.
But it just doesn't it doesn't look good. It's not Miami Dolphins bad. It's not New Orleans Saints bad. Good for them. That's the team that they got to play.
It just Looks Horrible. For the forty nine is at least here, And the start.
So we'll have that chat with Jennifer Lee Chan in a little more than five minutes. She'll come through. And join us. The 49ers are dealing with so many injuries, but how about this on the reverse? There's a team that has been dealing with a lot of injuries.
That's caused me for concern. They just went to the Super Bowl and lost. It's the Kansas City Chiefs. A little bit of the luster. is currently lost.
with the Kansas City Chiefs. But today at least we got a little bit of good news. Apparently Xavier Worthy. Who dislocated his shoulder in the first game of the season against the Chargers last Friday? Apparently He got back to practice today.
We don't know how much he's going to play or if he's going to play against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. But it looks like he dodged a bullet. Listen to what Andy Reid had to say on Monday about Xavier Worthy taking a day. Abaday. As far as the injuries go, I know Xavier's the big question and he's...
rehabbing and working his shoulder and we'll just see where it goes. day by day here. See where we end up.
Okay. Yep, we'll see where he ends up. If anything, he could be a It could be a very small decoy that plays a very big part. As I expect the Philadelphia Eagles to beat the Kansas City Chiefs on the road. The Kansas City Chiefs are actually underdogs.
At home. It's the first time in years that they've been underdogs at home, and I'm picking the Philadelphia Eagles to go out there. and beat 'em. Speaking of beating 'em, Green Bay is off to a hot start here against the Washington Commanders. About seven and a half minutes to go here in the second quarter.
Josh Jacobs just ran for a touchdown, completing a 92-yard drive. That took 10 plays. And the Green Bay Packers currently lead the Washington Commanders. Fourteen. to nothing.
Washington is going to try to show some signs of life. Total in this game so far. Washington. has twenty three yards of offense. compared to two hundred and forty three yards.
for the Green Bay Packers. The Green Bay Packers have had the ball for 15 minutes. Washington has had the ball for seven. and Green Bay leads fourteen. To nothing.
We'll keep you up to date on this game as it continues. To roll on, it's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you, coast to coast, on the Infinity Sports Network. We are going to take a break. And when we come back, We're going to roll into a conversation. We're going to be joined by Jennifer Lee Chan.
Who covers all things San Francisco 49ers for NBC Sports Bay Area? Are all of these injuries as bad as they sound? Do the forty nine is still have life? Heading into the beginning of the season, it's the JR Sport Reshow coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Listen up, football fans.

on the Infinity Sports network. Hey, we got Thursday night football. We got the Green Bay Packers with a 14-0 lead against the Washington Commanders. But a lot of the big news that we've gotten throughout the NFL, just here, even in the first week, unfortunately for the forty niners is is a lot of injuries. Brock Purdy dealing with a foot issue, was dealing with a shoulder issue.
George Kittle on the IR. Jawan Jennings wanting money, but now he's hurt. There's a lot of question marks, especially for this team. They cut a lot of veterans. spending a lot of money with the younger guys.
Joining us right now. Is someone who covers all things San Francisco 49ers for NBC sports in the Bay Area. And to talk about it all is Jennifer Lee Chan. Jennifer, how are you? I'm good.
How are you doing? I'm very well. Certainly appreciate the time. We've heard a lot about the status of Brock Purdy over the past several days. It was his shoulder, then his foot.
Then the MRI looks better than what anybody expected. What's the reality? Is it all up in the air? Is it a couple of weeks? Is it more than a month?
What do we know? Yeah, we're not sure how long it's going to be, but he definitely is not going to play on Sunday.
So it is Mac Jones under center on Sunday in New Orleans versus the Saints. Brock Purdy, I think the toe is a little bit more of an issue than the shoulder. It is both. This is left side for both of them, which is better than the right side. Obviously, his throwing shoulder and his push-off foot.
So, left shoulder, left toe. We'll see how it goes throughout the week, but he's definitely not playing this Sunday.
Well, Jennifer, we heard from John Lynch, and of course, what else is he going to say? He says, We got a lot of confidence in Mac Jones. Knowing that Christian McCaffrey is someone who was hurt a good portion of the last year, too. But then you also have Brian Robinson. I can imagine if if Mac Jones is going to have to hold down the fort.
They're gonna go heavy on the run, no? I mean, I would think so, but the good thing about Mac Jones is that the locker robot loves him. We were in the locker room the last couple of days, and every time we would bring up Mac Jones' name, potentially starting. People would light up. They love him.
He's kind of goofy, but he's been just spinning it on the field. They love him and a good thing about it is that because he went through training camp just recently, had those reps with the ones and the twos, it's much easier for him to transition into being the starting quarterback in week two as opposed to week ten when he would be running the scout team offense throughout the week.
So they're thinking that it's a good, easy transition because he's had so many reps just recently. And Jennifer Lee Chan is joining us from NBC Sports Bay Area. I mentioned Christian McCaffrey. It was right before the season started that he was on the injury report. It's good that he got out there and played.
I think he had about 60, 70 yards receiving and then also rushing. Is he looking good? Can we kind of put some of the injury stuff behind him, or is that always going to linger? We all, you know, all the fantasy owners that have him and the Fortniteers definitely hope they have put it behind him. But he said it was a minor thing and it kind of got blown out of proportion.
But you know, anything that happens with his calf, which is how it started last year with the bilateral Achilles tendinitis, You know, leads people to believe that something could be amiss.
So he looked like himself on the field. He was, you know, had a rest day on Wednesday, but was back at it on Thursday on the practice field. Looks like himself, says he feels great, but he always says that.
So, but I do think he is not having the issues like he did last year. Knowing that the NFC West is kind of up and down, do people trust Sam Darnold and the Seahawks? I'm not so sure. The Cardinals seem to always be a a fifty fifty. And then you have the Rams, who's starting quarterback.
He also has his own issues. He's older and he has a back issue. The 49ers, it seems that they're going to be in the mix throughout the course of the year, regardless of how things start off. No? Yeah, I think they'll definitely be in the mix.
I mean, they've got a strong group of guys, even with George Kittle out. I think Matt Jones is the guy who has a lot of NFL experience. You have Christian McCaffrey. I think maybe the question is maybe at wide receiver, but Ricky Pearcell has looked really good. He had over 100 yards in his week one debut.
On the defensive side, you still have Fred Warner. Nick Bosa made that game-winning sack fumble strip turnover. And Deandre Lenore and Ronaldo Green as the cornerbacks, they're pretty good.
So they really do have talent from top to bottom. It's just a lot of the new guys that are going to need to. try and make an impact and have a contribution going forward. You mentioned the offense, and we know in the offseason, Jawan Jennings, he took a look at last year and said, hey, I got an opportunity to cash in. And now he's also dealing with his own shoulder issue, when can we expect to see him play?
Apparently, the MRI came back good and the CT scanned it as well, but he couldn't lift his arms over his head. We actually had to help him put his jacket on before he spoke to Media after the game on Sunday.
So they're hoping that he gets better. He was not practicing today, but he was out there running around on the field. Obviously, that's not anything to do with his shoulder. But There is potential. They said they're saying he has a chance to play on Sunday.
No. You talked about all the young guys on this team that are expected to continue to step up. We've seen some. Of veteran names that are out the door, a little bit older, whether it's guys like Drake Greenlaw, Ufunga, Ward. Deball Samuel obviously playing tonight.
In in Green Bay. How has the the the process been? Just throughout the course of training camp up until now, integrating a lot of these younger, more unknown names into the team. I think you're exactly right. It's going to be a process, but the guy who's there to do it is Robert Sala.
And they have all spoken about how great it is to have him back. Fred Warner says, like, we're on the same page, doesn't even need to tell me the call. I know what he's going to call, and that's what it is. And Nick Buzz said, it's just like, you know, how it used to be. It was like a, you know, just a glove that fits.
Robert Sala, I think, was the biggest acquisition for the foreigners during the offseason. And with these young guys coming up, I mean, they've already got a safety. Marquis Siegel doesn't look like a rookie. He's been out there and won the starting position next to Jason Pinnock. And, you know, as much as Upton Stout struggled maybe a little bit at the beginning of the game, really kind of.
Got his feet underneath him in the second half of the game and played well.
So they've got young guys. that are stepping up. It's the defensive line guys, Mike L. Williams, CJ West, Africa Collins that you know are just it's get they're getting their footing. They're learning how the Fortiners like to run their defensive line and they'll get there eventually.
It's just going to take a little bit of time.
Well, Jennifer, knowing that there have been so many changes, and then also the 49ers, whether it's going to Super Bowls, going to the playoffs, NFC Championship games. What is the current fan sentiment surrounding this team? I think they're excited. You know, anytime you have a week one win in Seattle, that's a divisional win, they're excited. I mean, always a little hesitant because of the injuries that they've seen, but the team actually is relatively healthy outside of George Kittle and Brock Purdy.
I mean, for all the little kind of bumps and bruises that they had during training camp, they only had one guy on the 53 not practicing before week one.
So they've gotten a lot healthier. You know, but it's a tough sport. There is attrition and there's going to be guys that get hurt, but at least it's, you know, injuries that they can come back from at some point during the season. Jennifer, we talked a little bit about the rest of this division and what it looks like. For the 49ers specifically, Where do you think the ceiling is?
Where do you think they realistically kind of end up? by the time we get to January. I mean, Vegas has them at 10.5, 10.5 wins. I think that's about right. They have the last play schedule.
They don't play a tough schedule. And they've got a lot of home games coming down the stretch. I think they have a chance to have a winning schedule. And as long as things go according to plan, people stay healthy, don't lose any of their big stars for too long, then I think they'll be okay. And it has sounds about right with the schedule that they'd have.
When you think about the success that the team has had and now going through a little bit. Of a reset. John Lynch has been there, Kyle Shanahan has been there. And they're not going anywhere. There certainly is no hot seat at all.
But you look at Kyle Shanahan, we look at photos, and we just go, well, damn, this guy's been working hard. He's aged a whole hell of a lot from when he showed up. He looked like a baby.
Now he looks like he's been through some things. Has he changed in regards to his communications with the media? It seems that the highs and then getting put down low has kind of worn on him a little bit. I mean, I think anytime you have a losing season, it takes a little bit out of you. Last year was really tough with all the guys that they had hurt and just not playing well.
And it didn't, you know, it definitely took its toll on Cal Shanahan. But he is a fantastic coach to cover. He's as honest as he can be. He's very upfront with the guys and every. Guy that has come in that's been from another team has said that they have, you know, had their eyes opened by how Kyle Shanahan looks at the game.
And so, You know, the way he operates, the way he coaches, you know, might not have brought a Super Bowl win yet to the Bay Area, but I know the players love him. And he's great to deal with as a media member.
Well, that's certainly good for you guys. We got some miserable coaches that are all over the. The NFL, Jennifer, so it's it's it's nice that you don't have to deal with one of 'em, okay? I know. I feel very lucky.
Both he and John Lynch, I mean, prior to John Lynch, the GM that was there, never said my first name once. And the second time I met John Lynch, he was like, Jennifer, how's it going today?
So, I mean, it's a trickle-down effect. You know, both of them, Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch, you know, Demand respect, but they also have respect for their players and the media members.
So when they have that type of attitude towards the media, it trickles down into the locker room.
So it's It's a completely different locker room than when I started 12 years ago. Jim Harbaugh was the head coach. And it was kind of, you know, his last year there was a little bit of a little bit of turmoil. Expectations were a Super Bowl, and they went eight and eight. And the locker room was miserable.
And now, even when a locker room, you know, they went six and 11 last year and what they weren't happy. But they still We're willing to talk because they knew they had to. And, you know, there's still that bond in the locker room with John Lech and Kyle Shane. And, you know, some things were out of their hands. You know, there are some things that they just, you know.
Christian McCaffrey. Being injured all year. They couldn't control that.
So I think they know they're better than what their record said. A lot of different factors kind of helped them get to that sixth and eleven point, but I mean, the locker room was never lost.
So I would say that for Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch, they run a good show here.
Well, I think for the beginning of the season, knowing that they're dealing with two injuries to their two top players, two of their top players, Brock Purdy and George Kittle. There is some optimism here at the beginning. They beat Seattle. They're going to take on probably one of the worst, if not the NFL's worst team. And the Saints, hopefully that's not a bad omen.
For the 49ers, they have Arizona and then Jacksonville.
So. I I think things could They could weather this early injury storm. Jennifer, thank you so much for the time. Tell everybody where they could follow you, all of your work, covering the 49ers, fill us in. I am at Jennifer Lee Chan, all one word all together.

NFC West stinks. I don't trust the cards to save my life. Matthew Stafford could have one slip. I cannot stand the Seahawks and well, particularly I I don't believe in Sam Darnold. And so the 49ers are going to be in this.
especially if they can be healthy late, if they can weather this early storm. It it may not be. Pretty, it may not be good looking. Uh They they're gonna be around, I think, at the end. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network.

Ah. That's the sound of James adding long-lasting gain scent boosters to his laundry this morning. Several hours later, James sniffs the irresistible scent of gain on his shirt. Ah, gain. Several hours later, James has even caught the attention of his mother-in-law, and she never gives him attention.
Oh, you smell amazing, James. Oh, thanks, mom. I love you too. I never said that. Add Gain Sump Boosters to your laundry.
Add joy to your day. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Hey, you like history. We'll get to a few things that took place this day in sports history.
In a few seconds from now, in a few minutes, And speaking of history, you just heard it from Peter Schwartz. Aaron Judge just hit two more home runs. What else is new?
Now ties Joe DiMaggio for fourth on the Yankees all time. home run list for his career. Aaron Judge has three hundred and sixty one. Home runs. And, like, as he gets older, what I'm supposed to think, okay, he's going to get worse as he gets older a little bit, right?
Like when he's I don't know Thirty eight, thirty nine years old? And five, six years from now, what what's he gonna be doing? Hitting twenty-five, thirty home runs? Like This guy's a monster Bacha, how long before he's just DH? How long is that going to take?
First baseman?
Well, to be fair, you look at him now. He's basically a DH now with his elbow. I'd say three years. Four years. They put him at first base, then and then they move him over.
Do they even bother at first? I'd say if his, if his, I'm assuming he's gonna get some type of surgery soon on his elbow, unless that somehow made a miraculous recovery. Uh he'll have surgery soon, probably in the offseason. He'll be started DH and then maybe move to first, kind of like what Bryce Harper did with the Phillies. Yeah, it is I I understand how much of a freak he is.
6'7, he can patrol the outfield and he is ridiculously athletic for his size, but mean for the Yankees' investment into him and in what he can provide in the batters box um Yeah, go find a younger athletic guy who can run around. Aaron Judge. For his career, when it started, he is already 33. Years old.
So Aaron Judge already climbing up the home run charts. He got a ways to go. If he wants to be number one, he has to surpass Babe Ruth, who has 659 home runs.
Okay. Good luck to Aaron Judge. Give it a few more seasons. He'll be behind Babe Ruth. He'll probably pass Mickey Mantle in a few seasons.
As of right now. Only man standing in front of him is Lou Garrick. And that might take him a couple more seasons. as well. Anyway, we got Thursday night football going on this second.
We just got to halftime. The Washington Commanders jest missed a field goal. The Green Bay Packers lead 14 to three. Jordan Love in the first half. Two hundred and fourteen yards passing.
One such down. Josh Jacobs. 42 yards rushing. and a touchdown. The commanders.
only forty nine yards passing. only thirty four yards on the ground. Washington has been struggling. Offensively, here in this game. Only 82 yards of offense.
compared to two hundred and seventy four yards. For the Green Bay Packers. And so both teams enter into this game 1-0. But it appears unless Washington uh finds a little bit of life, a lot of life here in the second half, A Green Bay might start their season two and O. And Washington might get to the point of being one and two.
One. Washington missing a field goal here that could have pulled them a little bit closer. They goin' need a whole lot more than field goals if they want to go out here. and win this game. It is the end of the show.
You know what that means? It's time for a few things that took place this day in sports history. Back, back, back, back! Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore. But some days I sit and wish I was a kid again.
It's time for this day in sports history. See, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything, and it was primitive and lousy, and we liked it. The JR Sport Brief Show. I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast.
on the Infiniti Sports Network. It is September 11th. Let's go back to 1983. Because Franco Harris A Steelers legend. He rushed for 118 yards.
The Steelers beat Green Bay 25-21. and Franco Harris. He became only the third player. In NFL history, To rush for 11,000 yards. Let me tell you something.
I've met Franco Harris. I met him, had a great conversation. Sweet man, shout out to my main man, Willie Cologne. Franco was a good dude. God rest his soul.
He was a sweet man. I know a lot of people loved him. And let's listen to the Steelers, 'cause Franco, he loved a lot of his people back. You know, I was blessed with certain talents. And I tried to use those talents to the best of my abilities.
How can I help my team? Could they count on me when it was needed? Then you think What makes your talents come through? What makes it work? What makes you work?
And the answer is to be with the right teammates. And God knows I God, I was with the right teammates. They were great. Man, shout outs to Franco Harris. God rest his soul.
He was really a. He was a cool dude, man. I'm happy he's one of the people that I had an opportunity to meet. September 11th, 1985, Pete Rose, he becomes the hit king. 4,192nd hit breaking Todd Cobb's record.
At San Diego, he knocked it off of Eric the Show. In the first inning, let's take a listen to the hit king, Pete Rose. He levels it out a couple of times. Shao kicks and he fires. Rose wings.
There is, there is. Hit number 4192. A live drive single into left center field, a clean base hit. And it is pandemonium here at Riverfront Stadium. The fireworks exploding overhead.
The Cincinnati dugout has emptied. The applause continues unabated. Rose completely encircled by his teammates at first base. Yes, September 11th, 1985. Pete Rose becomes the hit king.
Let's hit the fast forward button just, well, a lot. Let's go to September 11, 2011. Because Cam Newton becomes the first rookie to throw for more than 400 yards in an NFL opener. His team lost, they lost to Arizona 28. To 21, but Cam Newton, he went out there.
And he got busy. Listen to him throw a touchdown to Steve Smith. They're the Cardinals all standing in a two-point stance. On the third down, here comes the blitz. Newton puts it up.
He's got a man. And he completes it. Steve Smith is going all the way. Touchdown, Carolina. 77 yards.
Cam Newton's first touchdown pass to the NFL. And they were wondered if Cam would be affected by pressure and movement. He does a great job here allowing the offensive line to work for him with all of the stand-up defenders. He just reads the coverage and sees Steve Smith going right down the sideline. It looked like there was a mistake happened in the secondary.
National Championship, Heisman, MVP. Super Bowl appearance, Super Bowl loss, ESPN. Not too bad of a football life and career. Cam Newton. September 11th.
Let's hit the fast-forward button again, 2021, just a few years ago. Corbin Burns and Josh Hayter, they got together and they threw a No hitter. They blanked the Indians at the time 3-0. It was the ninth no-hitter of the season. Yeah, people were busy.
after the pandemic. Listen to Josh Hayter on Getting Together with Corbin Burns. Special. You know, I think just in general, just how hard this game is. Like I said, like the way his journey's been, to see him just continue to crush it and do something incredibly special.
And for me to be a part of it, I mean, it's a complete honor. Yeah, that was in 2021. Ugh, we can kill the music for this one. September 11th. The 2001.
It was one of the rare days that we had No sports. None, none, none, none. World Trade Center was attacked. Pentagon was attacked. There was uh another plane.
that went down in a field And we know September 11th was a terrible day, a domestic terror here. in the United States of America.
So there was no There wasn't gonna be no football, there wasn't no baseball, there was absolutely. Nothing.
Okay. First time that we had no sports in a day in America since 1940. Yeah. Yeah. Derek Jeter, I want you to take a listen to this.
He was having a chat with Joe Buck. On just the Yankees. They had to start the World Series and they played the Diamondbacks. They lost that. Listen to Derek Jeter talk about the difficulties.
are just trying to get sports back up and running. In 2001, You guys are on this roll. You're in a World Series. We've all, as a nation, gone through 9-11. The impact, obviously, on New York was catastrophic physically, emotionally.
Those were powerful nights at the ballpark. Yeah, it was probably. Um you know, you talk about that World Series, it it I don't know if I've ever heard the stadium louder. Than those three games. It may have been as loud, you know, some games against Boston, but.
You know, for us, the way we looked at it was for three hours a day, we were at least giving people something to cheer for. You know, you're never going to forget. Even now, you're never going to forget. But for those three hours, we felt as though. We were giving the people of New York something to cheer for.
Yeah, listen, people, you got to enjoy what you have when you have it. Life is short, it's unpredictable. It could be here today and gone tomorrow.
