The JR Sport Brief Show here on the Infiniti Sports Network. Come to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to everybody for listening, for being here, for hanging out with us. all over North America.
Okay, where have you been the past three hours, okay? You can always tune in on the Free Odyssey app. your local Infiniti Sports Network affiliate? Sirius XM Channel 375, and a smart speaker if you have one, ask it to play. The Infinity Sports Network.
I'm in Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you to our producer helping to hold things down tonight. Evan Harkin. Yeah, we've gone through a lot. We've had some great guests.
Mike Sando from The Athletic. Senior NFL writer. We had a great chat with Cordell Woodland from 1057 The Fan in Baltimore. Talked about Lamar Jackson. His foot is fine.
His foot is great. He's okay. Joe Shasky joined us from 95-7 of the game in the Bay Area.
Well, the 49ers are looking for wide receivers, so we got to see how that works out. And we got more to get into as the show continues on. Of course, at the end. We'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. We're gonna find out what happened with Jalen Brown's dad.
Oh my god, terrible news. Jimmy Ward, not good news for him either. And then I guess not news, maybe it doesn't matter. Hey, we just talked about Jerry Jones. He says that the agent is in the way.
From getting a deal done with Michael Parsons. Eh, I still think they get a deal done. Anyway. Thank you for being a part of the show. 888-710-4ISN is the number.
That's 888-710. For I S N. You can find me online. I exist everywhere at ISN. J.R.
The sport breed. Yeah, pretty easy to find me. Oh, we got oh yeah, preseason football. Whoa. What is what are these teams playing right now?
Uh Pittsburgh Steelers are beating Carolina. The backups are doing it 13 to 10 in the third quarter. And then we got the New York Giants. They're beating the Patriots in the second quarter. Fourteen to zero.
Jackson Dart getting the start for the New York Giants. He went sixth of twelve. With a touchdown. Even Jameis got a touchdown. Yeah, I know Giant fans, they're looking forward to seeing Jackson dart out there, maybe sooner.
Then later. What a day. We even had Shador, speaking of rookie quarterbacks, Shador Sanders is going to play in the Browns' final preseason game. And even Shador responded to the comments by Dylan Gabriel, so It's been a busy, busy day.
So we got more to do before we.
Well, I got to shut up and leave out of here. Again, shout outs to our producer in New York City, Evan Harkin. I'm here in Atlanta, Georgia. Evan, I know you're up in New York. Are you a Giants guy, a Jets guy, or are you just rooting for some other team?
No, big Giants fan. How you feel about Jackson Dart? He's looking pretty good. I mean, little fumble there on his last drive, I believe, which wasn't too good. But on all the drives before that, he looks pretty good.
You think we'll see him this season, or are we just stuck with Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston? I think we definitely see Dart at the end when the Giants probably don't have too good of a record and too much to play for. They'll just be like, Hey, Russell, have a seat. Jackson, it's your time to shine, huh? Absolutely.
I think Russell uh the Giants have a really hard schedule, so I think part of their plan was maybe let Russell lose those tough games instead of Dart. Yeah, no, you might as well look. The entire experience about being a quarterback, I think it helps a lot of guys. to get multiple perspectives. And if you're Jackson Dart, good.
He's learning by playing in the preseason. He's learning by being around Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson. He's seeing how they prepare. And I think it'll also benefit him to watch on the sidelines, you know, see what Russell and Jameis do. throughout the course of a season.
And I I I think we will see him. Because eventually there's going to be a blowout, a beatdown, something will happen. Maybe one or two of these guys will go down. Look. I I will find it odd.
if we never see him all season. Like, even in the last game, come on, you got to give him something.
So, I think we'll see Jackson Dart. Hopefully, maybe the games will matter. Maybe, maybe not. But we'll find out sooner than later. Jackson Dart is one rookie quarterback.
We may or may not see him. Throughout the course of the regular season, today might be the last time we see him. Maybe for a a few months. Hey, I just told you about Shador Sanders.
Well, we know we're going to see him this weekend. He's going to be in action after that oblique issue. And he's also going to be in action following those comments made by Dylan Gabriel last weekend.
Okay, Dylan Gabriel took on the Eagles and In the middle of the game, and after the game, he had to clear up some comments he made about. I'm a competitor. They are competitors.
Some people are entertainers. He had to really clarify, I don't think he did a good job. that he was referring to the media. Who, by the way, everybody in the media is not an entertainer.
Some of them are journalists. But Dylan Gabriel. had to defend himself. People are like, Hey, you talking about Shador. He's like, No, not at all.
Today Shador Sanders responded. Listen to what Shadora had to say about Dylan Gabriel's comments. Honestly, I don't even think about nothing. I don't think about anything. If it's not words or anything, you know at this point it can't do anything to me.
You know, I know, you know, the God put the ability and the power within me to not even think about nobody else's comments, not care. It is what it is. I spoke with him. He said, nah, bro, that wasn't. He said that wasn't.
He told me on the plane, he came up, he was like, nah, bro, that wasn't at you. I see how they're trying to spin. I'm like, oh, hi. I'm not tripping. Regardless of whatever it was, I don't.
Nobody's words or anything affects me, you know.
So Yeah. Did you believe him and called you? Was it on you? Did I believe him? Yeah.
I mean, I feel like you're trying to start stuff, man. I feel like you're trying to start stuff. I mean, he's doing his job. He's supposed to. Do I feel like he did?
I don't know. And that's not on me to sit here and be like, oh, he did, he did it. That's not going to change my life in any way. Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see what this game, the Browns are going to take on the Rams. It's going to be interesting to see what Shador does in that game.
as well as Dylan Gabriel. Let's see. I mean, there's there's no other battle that these guys can have. outside of what they do on the football field. And Dylan Gabriel's words were certainly taken out of context.
People ran with it. Oh, he's calling Shador an entertainer and not a competitor. Man, it's settled on the field. Cleveland Browns are just gonna be an entire bleep show. all year long.
What does Joe Flacco talk to his wife about? I know what he talks to his wife about. He's like, babe, listen. I'm going to try to win. I'm going to try to get this money.
And I'll be home in about a year.
Okay? Just. I know they got these young guys behind me. I don't know what the hell they're talking about. Chador's a good kid, but man, these guys are a pain in my ass.
I can't wait to come home. I think that's what Joe Flacco is saying, unless he doesn't want to be home. A lot of people feel that way. Anyway, speaking of quarterbacks, How about this? Another quarterback in the AFC North, Lamar Jackson.
We had this conversation with Cordell Woodland earlier in the show. Lamar is fine. Had his foot stepped on yesterday. Coach Harbaugh said that he is cool. Praise the Lord.
Listen to this. Yeah, yeah. He got his foot stepped on, like we said yesterday. I think Chad had mentioned that. They did a quick X ray, and there's nothing no damage or anything like that.
I'm sure it's a little sore today, so we just kept him in, but he's fine. He's going to be good. Oh, that's good. That's nice. Let me know what they do at the end of the season, okay?
Let me know if Lamar has another MVP caliber year. Come call me in the divisional round, okay? Call me in the AFC Championship game. If the Ravens aren't there, let me know. I'll be paying close attention.
Speaking of hard bars, we talked about this too. What world are we living in where Urban Meyer is now the moral police? He's the punishment police. Urban Mai is that guy who walks around a supermarket with a badge thinking he's the police. Man, you security.
And shout outs to security out there. At least you ain't snitching. Urban Meyer He wants Jim Harbaugh. He thinks he should be suspended. For his son stealing scandal.
Are you kidding me? He thinks the NFL should punish him. Because of what took place in the NCAA. What are we what are we talking about? Listen to what Urban Meyer had to say this nut.
No one's talking about when Jim Tressel Was fired at Ohio State. and he was given a suspension. Roger Goodell, commissioner of the National Football League, came out and said that we're going to honor that suspension. And you remember he went to the Indianapolis Colts. To work in the replay r room or something.
The Colts, because of the respect they had for the NCA and the suspension, do you realize suspended Jim Trestle?
So he was unable to perform his duties for the first six games of the year for the Indianapolis Colts. The qu I I think we all know the answer. Yeah, thank you. Of course not. Aw, man, come on I Well, first of all, the NCAA is based in Indianapolis, so this is probably two entities.
You know, I I don't I gotta watch my words here. Um They're shaking hands, okay? These are two entities shaking hands. That's why that took place. He shouldn't have been suspended at the first place.
The NFL don't have nothing to do with the NCAA, and somebody tell Urban Meyer he had enough controversies in his own life. that he should probably shut the hell up. about Jim Harbaugh's. Leave Jim Harbaug alone. Like there's certain people that don't know when to shut the hell up The only time Urban Meyer needs to be chatting.
is on that pregame show on Fox. Nobody need to hear from him. Mind your business the rat, the snitch. Anyway, speaking to somebody who needs to learn how to shut the hell up. We talked about Jerry Jones.
He is still going on. He loves being in the news, right? He is a cartoon character at this point in time. He's been a cartoon character for years. Admitting that he ratchets up drama to be in the news, and being in the news makes some money, and it has.
It doesn't make you a winner, loser. Jerry Jones. He spoke to Michael Irvin just a couple of hours ago. And he talked about this situation with Michael Parsons. He's like, yeah, we were going to make him the highest paid guy in the league that's not a quarterback.
And then his agent came through and he told us. No deal. What? Listen to this. When we wanted to send the details to the agent, the agents told us to stick it up our ass.
Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait. Wait, now, see, I was. Just so you're clear. Wait, wait, wait, wait. What do you mean?
So, so, wait, wait, what do you mean? Oh, not that. And then we were going to send it over to the agent. And we had our agreements on term, amount. guarantees everything.
We're going to send it over to the agent. And the agent said, don't bother. because we've got all that to negotiate.
Well, I'd already negotiated. I'd already moved off my mark on several areas. And so the issue, very frankly, is we've had the negotiation in my mind. And the agent's trying to get his nose in it. We've had the negotiation in my mind.
Well, your mind, it takes two people to negotiate, it takes two parties. to negotiate. And so that's the agent is doing his job. Whining and complaining for. Man.
I wish everybody a long and fruitful life. But unfortunately, the Dallas Cowboys are not going to become a normal franchise or organization. Until Jerry Jones is no longer at the reins. And God only knows when that's going to be. Kind of sad, man.
It really is. And I think a lot of Cowboy fans, even the delusional ones, always feeling it's goin be our year. Them days are over, man. I think those days are long gone for a lot of fans. of the Dallas Cowboys.
888-710-4ISN is the number. That's 888-710-4ISN. That's if you want to give me A call. Man, there's so much going on. And then how about this today?
This is news. ESPN launching its stand-alone service. You don't need cable anymore for ESPN. All you need is a a Well, a a credit card number, a bank account. And you can get E S P N.
Now that I actually think about it, Yeah, let me ask uh Evan here. Evan, you you gonna buy ESPN as a stand-alone? No, I don't think so. What you got it on cable? You got it already?
No, there's so many like street like, not that it's super legal or anything, but there's so many things you could stream it on nowadays. There's so many different sites everything's on. You know, there's so many different ways to get it than the original source.
Okay. I don't know what you're talking about, but I understand. Here, I got an ad earlier today. It said, I opened up the ESPN app. It said, all of ESPN in one place.
and I have a limited time offer. I can save over forty percent a month. For a year I can get Disney Plus. Hulu and ESPN all bundled up. For $30 for 12 months.
So, what are they going to do after 12 months? Charge me $50 a month? What are they going to do? Yeah, I think they'd make it the normal price after the 12 months. And then they go, hey, if I want to watch ESPN.
It's now $30 a month. You see, this is why all this is so wacky. I already have Disney. I got Disney. I got Hulu.
Ain't nothing I'm watching on Hulu. I don't know why I'm paying for it. Do you do you pay for anything, Evan? Yes, I mean some of it's like friends' accounts, like uncle and aunts' accounts, but I pretty much have everything and I'll pay for Netflix, obviously. I agree with you on Hulu.
I have Hulu, but now I'm thinking like I don't watch anything on Hulu. I don't know what's on Hulu. I'm like, they can't even, they're like, hey, you want to watch TV on Hulu? You got to pay more money. What do I have it for?
I don't know. I gotta watch Hulu live T V. That's just it's confusing. I'm looking at this ESPN Unlimited. $30 a month I can watch the NFL games.
I get all the college football The NBA and WNBA, NHL, US Open. Sports Center first take. I don't watch any of this stuff. ESPN a rich now Here's what's here's what's crazy. I pay for ESPN Plus to read the stupid articles.
I should delete that, shouldn't I, right? What am I paying like $7 a month for that? Yeah, you would think ESPN Plus would come with ESPN regular.
Well, yeah, for like five years I thought that was the case. I'd try to watch things and be like, no, you can't watch that on ESPN Plus.
So, what am I paying for? I know it's pretty crazy. I guess you're paying for random college games. I don't know. I've reminded myself now to delete ESPN Plus.
There's never been anything that has ever been written or or that I've consumed there that has changed my life.
So. Yeah, here we ESPN.
Now, what's the difference between? See, this is where it gets stupid. What is the difference between ESPN Plus and ESPN Select? Here we go. Oh my God.
ESPN Plus is available to fans. In both our ESPN select and unlimited.
Okay, I'm not doing this. I am not doing this. I'm just going to start deleting stuff. And if I don't have it, I don't have it. I'll be mad about it later.
This is just uh Too much to damn watch some damn sports. It's too much. It's too much. Forget that, not even on the monetary side. It's just too much to think about.
They can keep it. ESBN buying up everything, doing it all. eight eight eight seven ten four I S N That's 888-710-4ISN if you want to give me a call. Of course, we got more to do. At the end of the show we'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history.
We talked about something positive earlier in the show. Derrick Rose has a day. where he's going to get his Jersey retired in Chicago. The number one is going up to the rafters.
Well, life is about balance. That's a positive story. I unfortunately have to tell you about a bad one. It involves the father of Jalen Brown. And then Jimmy Ward has some issues as well.
We'll get into this on the other side of the break. You're listening to the JR Sport Reef Show Coast to Coast on the Internet. Most people would rather remove a nest of irate hornets than search for auto and home insurance. That's why The Zebra searches for you, comparing over 100 insurance companies to find savings no one else can. Compare today at thezebra.com.
I think I'll wait inside. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Re Show here with you coast to coast. on the infinity, Sports. Network.
And it ain't Seven and ten. 4ISN is the number. That's 888-710. Four. I S And Man, we had some good basketball news earlier in the show.
Derek Rose. He finally has a day. They gave him a day that he's going to get that jersey retired. January 24th in Chicago in the United Center. AFTER The Chicago Bulls gang.
against the Boston Celtics. It'll be a great night for Derrick Rose, his family, that number one going up into the rafters. That'll be pretty awesome. It it's it's gonna be cool to see. A celebration not just for Derrick Rose, but The entire city of Chicago, I'm happy for.
Now When we get to january twenty fourth, We hope to see Jalen Brown out on the basketball court. No reason to think he's not, right? Expect to see him. He plays for the Celtics unless he's hurt or resting, whatever the case might be. It's January.
We'll see. But one man who I don't know where he's going to be for some time, unfortunately. is the father of Jail and Brown. Quentin Marcellus Brown. is the father of jailing.
And when I saw this story earlier today, I had to double take. Because his dad, the father of Jalen Brown, has been accused of stabbing a man multiple times. after he dinged his scar. You gots to be kiddin' me. This took place last night.
in a parking lot in Las Vegas. And this is what you call what would be a fender bender.
Okay, there's court documents that say That Quentin Brown, the father of Jalen Brown, he was arrested on Thursday and charged with attempted murder. Come on now He had a court appearance this afternoon. Bail was set at three hundred thousand dollars. Police say he stabbed a man multiple times over a Doording. Bail is set.
At three. Hundred thousand dollars. They're multiple witnesses, multiple people. are saying the altercation started. The guy who got stabbed, he was in his car with his girlfriend.
Apparently Jalen Brown's dad pulled up next to him.
Somebody came out of the passenger side. and hit his car.
Okay, this woman, this lady who's with her boyfriend, got out to check for damage. And then they said that Quentin Brown, the dad of Jalen, was confrontational, and then they got into a fight. And then they say that Jalen Brown's dad allegedly reportedly walked up to him. and pulled out an unknown object, Hit him in the back. And he stabbed them.
In his back, his upper right chest. He got a broken rib, he needs surgery. They say he was in critical condition. There were reports that said that he lifted up his shirt and people saw insides coming. I mean, come on, man.
This is allegedly s reportedly like right before six o'clock. Damn. He said his clothes had blood in it. His attorney says he was trying to defend himself. although witnesses say that he was THE AGGGRESSOR Damn.
Apparently Jalen Brown doesn't have a a good relationship or much one at all with his with his dad, so Look, man, nobody wants to deal. With your parents when they're not doing the right thing. Nobody wants that. Come on, we got Patrick Mahomes. This guy's dead.
Patrick Mahomes Senior, I remember watching him pitch for the New York Mets. This guy with no slouch off the street whose son just all of a sudden became a superstar. Like his dad was a was an athlete. He was no superstar, but his dad played, played baseball. And you got Patrick Mahomes as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
And his dad is getting into trouble. He's over here drinking and driving and Now you got gel and brown. This guy's dad is out here reportedly stabbing people over door dings in the car. I don't know if that's a reason to stab somebody. I mean, damn.
They showed some pictures that blood all over the car and everything. I mean, what are we doing here? I mean, this at least is all of this is certainly worse than what we got a couple of days ago. Arch Manning. Hey, grandpa, shut up.
We don't talk about what I'm getting ready to do this upcoming season. And next time, just go out here and uh. Mind your business. All the best to Jalen Brown and his family. I mean, he got to deal with this because of his dad.
What a world. And by the way, his dad was a boxer. Damn, what a wild world. Evan, did you see this? Apparently, his dad was a boxer.
I had did you know Jalen Brown's dad was a boxer? Did you know that? Not until the reports came out, but it was one of the first things I saw in the reports, yeah. Yeah, they say he is seven feet tall. Oh my gosh, I wonder why he needed an object.
Yeah, why do you need this you are seven feet tall. You out here stabbing people? What are we doing? What a world. Oh my god.
He is listed. Jalen Brown's dad.
Okay, Jalen Brown is what? Six, seven? This guy's dad is listed at seven feet tall. And 300 pounds. What are we doing?
Witnesses say he used his left hand. He boxed. They say he used his left hand to grab the guy's right shoulder. and stabbed him several times in the abdomen. There.
She says the coach he tried to Fight back. before attempting to run away and he chased after him. The man who got stabbed? was five nine one hundred and sixty pounds. What are we doing?
What are we doing here? A guy seven feet tall, 300 pounds. He said he needed to defend himself. Against the guy 59160.
So he stabbed him. They sent him right to the hospital. What a world. They get all the best to uh Jalen Brown. This is crazy, man.
It's like, was it last year, two years ago, I think, Sean Kemp.
Some guy tried to rob Sean Kemp and he shot him in the The parking lot, like, you can't make these stories up. Twenty twenty five is a Well, this entire era of being alive is just uh Very, very interesting. And then we got this story as well from Jimmy Ward with the Texans. This is just bad. We got a news report for this one.
I can't even spit this one out. This is courtesy of ABC 13. Listen. Safety Jimmy Ward now finds himself at the center of a civil lawsuit. After being arrested twice in two months, according to this lawsuit filed in Harris County, Ward is being accused of both physically and sexually assaulting a woman named Christy West multiple times this year.
It says West and the Texans' defensive back were together for years and share a three-year-old son. Court records show Ward was arrested on June 12th for a domestic assault charge. Man. Man, it's r it's rough out here, man. Ain't no excuses for that.
None. And it's not just not athletes. It's just the athletes happen to be famous. These horrific, awful things are happening all over the place. If if you hear the sound of my voice, do everybody a favor.
Just It's go home and be peaceful, okay? Don't stab anybody over a door ding. Don't beat anybody up, choke anybody. Don't assault anybody in any type of way. Just.
It's going home. Go home safe. Please. for the betterment of all of society, okay? Please.
It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you, coast to coast, on the Infinity Sports Network. eight eight eight seven ten four I S N That's eight eight eight seven ten For ISN. We'll talk about a few things that took place this day in sports history. We'll get ready to wrap things all on up. Here at the zebra, research shows the average person would rather endure a root canal than search for auto and home insurance. Just try to relax.
Okay. Or be trapped in a car for eight hours with toddlers on a sugar high. or remove a nest of irate hornets. That's why the zebra searches for you, comparing over 100 insurance companies to find savings no one else can. Compare today at thezebra.com.
We do the searching, you do the saving. I think I'll wait inside. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. Evan, you I mean you play you play football out for him. You had to be a good student, right?
You had to. Yes, a lot better after my freshman year, but yeah. Oh, wow.
Well, you just party in your freshman year outside? Yeah, a little b a lot of that. A little bit of COVID too. We had the online classes, so it was a little different. You started school.
You started school in COVID? Yes, freshman in 2020. That's damn.
So you started in August? What is that, August? Yep, August of 2020. Masks. We actually had to wear masks under our helmet with a face mask, which was pretty funny.
What? Yeah, referees would tell you to pull it up like it was like a mouth guard or something. Fordham University. Wow. Like, I guess that's not just Fordham.
That must have been the old conference, right? The old AAC? Yeah, the whole Patriot League. Oh, Patriot, that's right, Patriot League. Damn.
Wow. When did you actually sit inside of a classroom? Um my sophomore year, freshman or so uh Fall semester of my sophomore year.
So, okay. Yeah, so August again the next year you sat in a classroom? Yep, still with masks for that whole year. We had to wear masks in buildings, but we were in class at least for that year. In your junior year, no masks?
Yep, junior year, we're finally free. Wow. What a college experience. You still got a degree, so what difference does it make, right? Yeah, true.
Wow, what a world.
Well, what position did you play on a football team? I was a receiver. Oh, nice.
Okay. Alright, that's pretty cool. Got some catches out there? Yeah, I got some catches in practice. Not too much burn in the game, but.
Ah, okay.
Well, you're better than me. I didn't do it. I played in the street, okay? I played in the street. You played at Fordham.
I played in the Bronx on the street, so that's better. You did good. Nice. Good for having. Are you you done?
You no more athletic endeavors? You finished? No, no more. I'm thinking about joining some some recreational like beer league baseball teams, stuff like that. Got some seven on seven football around me.
You gonna do some pickleball? Isn't pickleball safe? I don't know. I've actually, I don't know how pickleball works.
Well, you know Ryan. Ryan Hickey, you know Ryan Hickey. Ryan Hickey played pickleball. He got beat by old ladies. Did he?
Yeah, he got beat by old ladies. I'm like, what type of sport is this where old people can. Can beach in. All people are supposed to lose in sports, unless it's Tom Brady or LeBron James. Oh, people are supposed to lose.
Why don't you play anymore? Ryan Hickey got beat by old people. Maybe pickleball is the. of the exception here. Uh who knows?
Speaking of old people, Congratulations. and shout outs to Sister Jean. Yeah, you know Sister Jean former Loyola of the basketball team. Used to come to all the games, and she was there. Good luck, charm.
Haven't seen her recently. She turned 106 years old today. She was born August twenty first. Nineteen Nineteen. Damn.
one hundred and six years old. To be honest, I don't know if I want to, you know, I'm not trying to wish death upon myself. I'm not doing that. I don't know if I want to see 106. And damn it, by the time I even get close to anywhere near 106, they'll probably have machines that'll keep me alive forever and Don't give me robot legs and a new heart.
I don't need all of that. I don't need to be Robocop out here. What I got is what I got. Just do everybody a favor: cure cancer. Let's do that.
And I'll just keep it moving from there. Congratulations and happy birthday. to Sister Jean. Born this day, August 21st, In 1919. And if you're listening to me right now, and it happens to be your birthday.
Happy birthday to you Okay for me. JR. Anyway. Sister Jean born this day in 1919. You know what?
We've reached that point of the show. It's time for us to go back in time. It's time for us to take a look at a few things that took place this day. in sports history. Back, back, back, back!
Back in the days when I was young, I'm not a kid anymore. But some days I sit and wish I was a kid again. It's time for this day in sports history. See, back in those days, we had radio and you couldn't see anything, and it was primitive and lousy, and we liked it. The JR Sport Brief Show.
I wish I was 50 years younger and I'd kick your ass. It is the JR Sport Reef Show here on the Infinity Sports Network. I just told you it's August 21st. 2025. I mean an outsider's sister Jean being born in 1919.
Congratulations to you! If you were also born in 1919, it's time to take a look at a few things that happened.
Well, let's go back. How about this? Nineteen eighty-two. Raleigh Fingers, he became the first player ever. To accumulate 300 saves.
Okay, he saved the victory when they went out there and beat. The Mariners.
Okay, let's take a listen. Zolly Finger's 17-year career introduced the emergence of the modern-day relief ace. After watching him post inconsistent results as a starter, the A's converted him to the bullpen, where he excelled quickly and frequently in his new role. Relying upon a sharp slider, Fingers went on to notch 341 career saves. Known for his handlebar mustache, he became a familiar sight during the postseason, appearing in 16 World Series games.
He won both the American League MVP and Cy Young Award with the Brewers in 1981. Fingers was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1992. Amazing! And shout outs to the National Baseball Hall of Fame for the information. August 21st.
2004. Man, oh this guy he all he did is win win win Michael Phelps. He won his very first gold medal. He was 19 years old. He set a world record in a 400-meter individual.
Let's take a listen to Michael Phelps getting it done, winning that first gold in 2004. Winner of a gold medal and Olympic champion in a world and Olympic record time of four minutes 8.26 seconds representing United States of America The roll fell. What can't Michael Phelps do?
Okay, that was Michael Phelps' first gold medal. You want to know since? Then that was in Athens, Greece. Since then, the guy ended up with 23 gold medals. He has 28 medals total.
And now he's just spending his time out here criticizing the Olympic Swimming Committee, but then also helping the Baltimore Ravens learn how to swim. Yeah, I know where he didn't learn how to swim, not in that bay. I know that much. Shoutouts to Michael Phelps. August 21st.
2016, another Olympics performance, not in Athens. In 2016, I was there, it was in Brazil. Kevin Durant lost his mind. Eight of eight from the field. He had 21 points in the first half.
The United States of America went out there and smacked Serbia 96. Kevin Durant. He finished the game with 30 points as they won another gold medal. Let's listen to this hot start. By Kevin Durant, courtesy of NBC Sports.
Screen that. James looking, finding Durant fading. Durant hitting. Oh my, oh my, Kevin Durant. Owning Leo.
in the first half. And Spike approves 21 points for Durant, eight for eight from the floor, and he's given the United States a nine-point lead at the half here in Leal. Man. The part that sucks is We're done. We're not gonna see no more Kevin Durant at the Olympics.
It's done. It's over. Like realistically think about this. By the time we get to the next Olympics in Los Angeles and Well, you know what? That that's not entirely true.
We might have nah. Uh let let's think about this for a minute. But anyway, those are a few things that took place this day. in sports. History.
Let's think about this. Hmm. Evan, LeBron is done. No more Olympics for LeBron? I think LeBron's done.
KD's younger than LeBron. He's got like four years less than him. Yeah, he might be there. Let's see. Durant is, what, thirty six right now?
The Olympics, what do we got? Three more years until the Olympics? 2028? Yeah. I could see KD in those.
One more 39. They need a veteran on the bench, right? Yep, I could see KD and Curry doing one more together. No, it's Steph Curry, too? Yeah, you think he's younger than K D, right?
What is he? No, I think he's the same age. Steph Curry. Wait, wait, is he 35? Steph Curry.
Let's see. How old is Steph Curry? Oh, he's old. C he's thirty seven. Oh, wow.
Yeah. Yeah, so he'll be forty. I don't know. I think Steph Curry I think he might hang him up. What does this contract look like?
Okay. He's under con.
Okay, wow. He's only under contract through the 2026-27 season.
So he has this season coming up. And he has one more season so he has one more season after the one that's coming up. You think he's going to retire on that last year, or he's going to tax? I don't know. I think it depends on how his body's going to hold up.
Is is Steph Curry going to go to another team? Is he going to go to the Charlotte Hornets? No, they suck. Can't imagine them turning things around in two years, but you never know. Yeah, I I I guess if he's still playing, he'll tack on one more year.
Maybe he will have retired in 2028 and he'll just Try to get a gold medal on the way out the door. Because realistically I don't know what veterans, all of the guys that have been vets on Team USA basketball, all these guys are old. Right? Like LeBron is going to be finished. Steph Curry was the old man, too.
Him and LeBron helped win the medal. He had Kevin Durant. What what year was this? 2024? Yeah.
2024 USA basketball team. Here we go. Who was on that team? I know Embiid. Was on that team.
I won't say anything disparaging about him. I don't have it in me today. Anthony Edwards will be there. And Steph Curry, we don't know. LeBron is probably going to be gone.
Kevin Durant will probably be there. Maybe, if he's still playing, I see no reason why not. Derek White, no, he won't be there. Cyrus Halliburton, possibly. Tatum.
I don't know if he wants another USA experience. In two more years, he will only be.
Well, damn it, three more years. He won't even be 30 yet. He's 26 right now. Jolen Biet, we don't know if he's going to play basketball. Drew Holiday will not be on the team.
Bam Matabayo won't be on the team. Anthony Davis will be 34. I venture to say, he won't be on the team. A Devon Booker is thirty He'll be 30 at that time. He might be on the team.
Yeah, th they're lacking. Like there's no veterans to step up. The guys will either be close to forty or they'll be thirty years old.
So I I I guess, yeah. If Kevin Durant is still playing, I assume. Kevin Durant will be on that team. Are there any veterans that didn't play last year? No, right?
Everybody played that was worth a damn. Yeah, a lot of vets are from other countries nowadays too. I mean, you got Luca, Giannis, Jokic, a lot of the best players at Shea, a lot of the best players in the NBA aren't from America anymore.
So basically by the time we get to the twenty twenty eight Olympics, we're doomed. Could be. We could be doomed. It's been a negative trend for sure. Yeah, it has.
You just named it. I mean, our best hope is Anthony Edwards going out, and he will be 25. How? Oh, my God. What has he been in the NBA for fifteen years already?
How is it? How's Anthony? How old is he now? He's got to be 23.
Okay, no, no, no. Anthony Edwards is twenty four years old. He just turned twenty four on august fifth. Damn. So he'll still be young.
He'll be 27 years old in the next Olympics. Good on Anthony Edwards. Young ass guy. Keep on growing up, man. Another Georgia native.
