The JR Sport Brief Show here on the Infinity Sports Network. Come to you live from Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you for listening wherever you might be. Thank you to our producer in New York City. Ryan Botcher.

The show gets started every weekday at 6 p.m. Eastern. three Pacific. We've gone through a lot. The Major League Baseball Trade Deadline.

Thank you so much to Kyle Glazer for joining us to talk about it. We talked about some NFL action. Terry McLaurin has nothing to do with Major League Baseball. Terry McLaurin has officially requested a trade. From the Washington commanders.

I just think it's a matter of negotiating. I don't think he's going anywhere. But he formally asked out I don't think it's going to happen. Hey. We got more to come as well.

We got the NFL Hall of Fame game that's getting ready to kick off. We got Joe Varden from the Athletic, who's going to come through and join us in about 20 minutes. Luca is on this worldwide tour. Jonathan Comingo wants to leave the Warriors for the Kings and LeBron James is Who knows what LeBron is doing? Of that chat with Joe Varden.

In twenty minutes. It's been a busy show. If you've missed a minute or a second or an hour of it, All you have to do is hit rewind. on the Free Odyssey Act. 888-710-4ISN.

That's 888-710-4. Four. I N You can find me online, I exist everywhere. I am at JR Sport Brief. You want to call?

You can do that too. eight eight eight seven ten four I S N Anyway, Bacha, I know you are so excited. You excited for some football? You excited for the Hall of Fame game? I know you're excited.

I'm excited for the first maybe series or two. Oh boy. And then it's then it's a waste of time. Oh yeah.

Well, you're not interested in like The fifth string guy that's going to get cut in two weeks? I'm not going to lie, the quarterback battle between these two teams isn't. Like compared to other preseason games, it's actually a lot better. It's Heineke, Troy Lance. And then you have Hendon Hooker.

And Kyle Allen.

So it's not, it could be a lot worse.

Well, let's throw Kyle Allen the hell up on out of here, okay? Nobody cares about Kyle Allen. Let's see what hookah does. He would actually, and he might have a better standing in his current NFL career if he didn't get hurt in college. And so.

There's always the interest in in what he does. And then you mentioned the the Chargers side. You think Heineke is going to get some good burns today? Probably not. I don't even know if he's going to play.

It's going to be this entire offseason, if I want to call it an offseason. I guess it is the offseason, training camp period. It's for Trey Lance. to show that he's not trash. That's it.

And then at the same time, We have an opportunity here. to see DJ Uyanglale. This dude bounced around college so much, so many schools. He is a bust in college, I feel like. I remember hearing about him years ago.

He was the second coming of, I don't know. And he he just kind of flamed out everywhere. I don't know if it's a matter of NIL and the bouncing around, but he just didn't stick. And so you want to see quarterbacks. That's who I want to see.

Forget Heineke. We've seen enough Heineke over the years. Where was he working at? Like FedEx before he got his NFL break? He was like a lawyer or something like that?

No idea, but he put up a solid game against Tom Brady and that makes him a legend. A legend. A legendary backup? A legendary substitute that came in because of injuries. Yeah.

Well, we'll see if he plays. But Trey Lance, man, he's San Francisco, big swing and a miss on him. Dallas Cowboys brought him on, didn't do anything, didn't play, basically didn't play. And now he's having a chance here with the Chargers. And we also know being on the Chargers with Justin Herbert.

who's making $55 million a year, who cares if he's throwing four interceptions. There ain't nobody. moving Justin Herbert out the way as the starter unless somebody goes down. And it's it's the same thing for the Lions. You know, you want to make sure that you're out there backing up.

Jared Goff. And if you have a good showing, if Jared Goff goes down or injured. you can certainly boost your profile. And I think that'd be cool for Hooker because if he didn't get hurt and blow out his leg at Tennessee. he very well might be have had excuse me, he might have had a different fate.

On his way into the NFL. And so those are really the biggest storylines. as we move into tonight's Hall of Fame game. You want to see the quarterbacks go out there and get it on. You also want to see what some of the rookies, what they go out there and do.

For instance, the Chargers. Just coming out of the draft, everybody talks about Ashton Genty, Ashton Genty this, and Genty that.

Well Charges didn't do too bad. We know they picked up Najee Harris as a running back who apparently And Bacha, we still don't know. Did he blow off part of his face? Did he burn his face? Did he got a scratch on his face?

What's the deal with his face? I don't know, but did you see the picture of him at camp? It looked as bad as when David Njoku had his incident of burns. He burned the skin off his face? It looked like it.

Like he had a hood on, sunglasses. Oh, my God. I don't know if there was a cane, but it looked like he was carrying something to balance. It was bad. No, I didn't see that.

And Joku, for all intent and purposes, you know, he burned himself and he still went out there last year and kicked ass. Najee Harris, we have no idea. But I'll tell you this. I want to see what Amarion Hampton goes out there and does, coming out of North Carolina. He's probably the best running back that came out of the draft.

No disrespect to Scatterboo. He's probably the best running back to come out of the draft right next to Genti.

So there are quite a few things to pay attention to. Tonight. This is gonna be a I can't call it a fun watch. Yeah.

How about a half? But three three quarters I can't even say that. Because you got to have a quarterback there at the end of the game just to see what he does.

So, how about this? The entire game is going to be good for backups. This might as well be a glorified college game. Agree? It's a not I wouldn't say it's college 'cause college has the crowd into it and the crowd doesn't care at this.

This game. Oh boy. as they show three cars uh Kinda driving by the highway i i in Canton, Ohio. This is a tough one. Hey, Jim Harbaugh.

Always intense. Jim Harbaugh. What the heck he's looking for in this uh preseason game? Uh their execution. You know, probably number one.

But yeah, they're Their understanding of the scheme being in the right spot, being able to be. Can you count on them? Are they doing their 111th? That's super important. Effort, I mean.

That's that's huge. You know, you're talking about all the things that are uh They're all important, really. It's like a carpenter. What's more important? The hammer or the saw or the...

You know that. The tape measure, I mean, they're all pretty darn important. You can tell that Jim Harpaugh is real he's really into the preseason game, isn't he? He's really into the game. Hey, let's hear from a guy who actually has to get into the game.

not for the Chargers, but for the Lions. Hendon Hooker coming out of Tennessee. and trying to secure the spot as number two quarterback behind Matthew Stafford. He talked about how important this preseason game is. Another day at the office.

So keeping the main thing, the main thing, controlling what I can control and having fun. You know, it's a game at the end of the day.

So coming out and enjoying myself and playing at a high level is what I strive to do every day. Of course it's of it's just business as usual. Forget him. Let's hear from Dan Campbell. Because Dan Campbell He talked about what he wants to see from both Hendon Hooker and also Kyle Allen.

Make the right decisions. Make the right don't don't Don't try to do anything flashy. Don't try to make plays. You just do You just do what you're asked to do. And wherever the defense Dictates that the ball should go.

That's where it should go. And then let those guys make a play. If it's supposed to go down to the back, put it to the back. He's got to make a play. And let's see what happens.

Even if that means we got a punt. That's okay. You just You just do what you're asked to do, run the offense. Stay cool, stay calm, stay collected. Run that huddle, make sure there's clear communication, and that's all I'm looking for.

That's all I care about. and if you don't do it he's gonna punch you in the face. Bacha, how much time does he spend between coaching and then also being in the gym? He probably has to show up an hour or two before everybody else can get a workout in. What is he working out for?

Two hours a day before he starts coaching? I don't know. Have you seen him? He probably, I don't know. an hour of straight workout lifting weights and maybe an hour of recovery in film.

I know what he does. What I think he drinks coffee black. I've been doing that since high school. Like five of them. He's been w he are you serious?

No, I'm just saying, like, he probably does it since I like Damn black. He just seems like he's hardened, where he's just. The caffeine does the cat. He needs, he needs five cups of black coffee. Just to have the effect of one, he's probably so caffeinated.

Yeah, he's on screen. You see him on screen now. He's super intense for no reason. He's jittering, he's moving, he's listening. Yeah, he's being interviewed by.

Whoever the heck this lady is, no disrespect to the lady. Um Yeah, he's given a an impassioned interview for a preseason game like it's uh the Super Bowl. I love Dan Campbell. He's amazing. He's probably talking about decision making and biting off ankles and kneecaps and.

This guy is still jacked to the gills. Oh man, I wouldn't want to take him off on the sidelines. He'd be the one coach to punch you. I think he'd beat you up more than Mike Vrabel would. Oh, what a guy.

Anyway, let's talk about another quarterback that we need to pay attention to tonight. I told you about Trey Lance. Running out of chances. His next stop might be the CFL. This is what Jim Harbaugh had to say about Trey Lance.

Very, very, very pleased and um. And now I just want to give Trey Lance the Game experience. I mean, I look at his career, you know, even college, you know. Not as much as most guys. And then he got into the NFL and Got nicked up a little bit.

and just hasn't uh hasn't been out there for the the game experience enough so yeah talent player who's uh playing very well in practice uh now go out into the game and uh and uh that's the That's the piece. You know, that uh It says the most. Yeah, who knows? Maybe he sees a little bit of uh Colin Kaepernick in 'em, you know? at the same time right on Q.

Jim Harbaugh was punching Tray Lance in the chest to get him hyped up and ready. Punching him in the chest, punching him in the shoulder pads, tapping him on the shoulders. and Trey Lance is standing on the sidelines going, All right, coach, I get it. I get it. Just don't dislocate my shoulder.

Give me a damn break here. And so, as we've uh did we already see a t is this a turnover bachel already? It was ruled on the field a fumble, and I don't even know if reviews exist. Let's not do that crap here. Do we need reviews in a Hall of Fame game?

No. Let's just uh We don't, but it'd be hilarious. Because even refs, it's the refs preseason too. And so it's practice for everybody. Yeah, we don't need no stinking reviews or no.

Well, they're going to one, so Oh my god. I guess all the all the rules are are normal here. Might as well practice your flag throwing. Bill Belichick, he never formally threw the flag, he would pull it out from his sock. And then just kind of toss it.

Did he ever overhand throw it? I don't think so. He would go up to the ref and just drop it in their face. Yeah, he's a well. And see how he treats these college refs.

That's gonna be a fun thing to watch. Anyway, apparently, maybe, possibly the Detroit Lions have already fumbled. I was going to say we can look forward to seeing Trey Lance sooner than later. Jim Harbaugh knowing this is a Hall of Fame game. He kind of told us who is not going to be playing tonight.

Listen. The theme will be, I mean, veteran starters, veteran traditional starters are going to be... Are going to be playing in the game.

So, uh, Justin. Quentin Johnson, Ladd. Rashawn, Joe. Mackay, Brad Bozeman. And same thing on the defensive side with Derwin.

Uh Khalil Mack, Denzel Perryman. Dan Henley. Um Um Tarhib. DJ and Ben Say Juice. And uh aloe.

Um Elijah Molden. Um And that's That's That's just an example. It's just an exam well, tell us every who is playing. That would have been better. Jim Harbaugh should have told us the names of all the guys playing.

We would have got more. Uh, uh, I don't know that guy. Uh, Let me ask the position coach. Yeah, gi give us a reason why sh we should watch. as uh the play on a field has been ruled a fumble.

By the Lions, and Trey Lance has an opportunity to eventually turn the ball over. himself. Hopefully not. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you, coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. If we get anything of note in this Hall of Fame game, like a Trey Lance turnover or a fumble or a Hennhooker touchdown, we'll let you know.

Otherwise, you just heard about all the guys that are not playing. You've never heard of the guys that are playing, okay? Most of them. It's the JR Sport Breeze Show. We're going to take a break when we come back.

We're gonna have a chat with Joe Varden. from the Athletic, covers all things NBA, wrote an article about the bubble. Darryl Maury gave him a quote about how the Lakers wasn't valid across the league. I'm gonna ask him about the article that he wrote that caused a lot of thoughts and opinions. We'll get into this situation with Luka Doncich now that he lost weight.

What's going on with Jonathan Kumingo? Where's Russell Westbrook going to end up? The league has been very, very busy. We'll have that chat with Joe Varden on the other side. It's the JR Sport Reshow on the Infinity Sports Network.

Don't move. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Bree Show here with you coast to coast. On the Infinity Sports Network. Terry McLaurin wants a trade.

Major League Baseball players are being traded. And there's still NBA news that's coming down the pipe all over the place. Mikael Bridges gets an extension. Jonathan Kumingo wants out. LeBron James is still a Laker.

And Russell Westbrook is still a free agent. And then we're still getting amazing articles like What we got yesterday from Joe Varden, who's a senior writer for The Athletic, about the bubble, which was five years ago exactly. Yesterday. To talk about all things NBA, including his article, joining us right now is senior writer covering all things NBA for the athletic, Joe Varden. Joe, how are you?

Well, plus football's back, you know, about an hour south of me where I live in Canton. We have a fumble on the first play and the Chargers are on the board, so you know. Hey, Joe, when are you getting some snaps at quarterback? When is that happening? Not too late.

Well, I split time at quarterback in high school. And that was, let's see, I graduated in 98.

So I think I may be slightly past my prime.

Okay. All right. I think you can help out if Matthew Stafford goes down, but we'll we'll we'll we'll see. Hey, Joe, b before we get into Luka Donchich and his fitness world tour. Thank you for the article that you wrote yesterday, finding out more about the bubble.

We found out that you guys, you as in the media, were staying in a motel while the players were complaining about their four and five star accommodations. But one of the biggest things that came out of it, Dal Maury has been ripped to shreds. pretty much saying that, you know, the Lakers bubble or championship Is has an asterisk, but then if he won with the Rockets, it wouldn't have won. What did you gleam or glimmer from what was written? Or was it j really that clear from him?

So The process for this was Actually, an edit, you know, I was assigned. to do something on the five-year anniversary on the bubble because I was there. And that's kind of a hard assignment because while there was looking back on it, there was so much good. And the simple fact that they, you know, that they, they made it, they completed that season. without anybody getting sick.

That's a huge triumph. But you know those were dark days i mean it was a it was a tough time in our country You know, and then on top of that, like with the pandemic, with the masks and the protocols, like, those are not things people. want to look back on and remember fondly. No. And so an editor said, well, you know.

So much has been said about the bubble. Why don't you talk to Well why don't you ask uh a a couple of your fellow journalists Who are there from other outlets? Like, what just what they think the legacy of the bubble was. And so I thought, okay, well, I can do that, but then why don't I reach out to just some people who I know or some people whose phone numbers I have that have other jobs that were also there. You know, so I hit players, I hit coaches, I hit some front office guys.

Adam Silver was good enough to. to participate. Always appreciate that. And Daryl was somebody that I texted knowing that he was there with the rapids. And the question was very simple.

It was what five years later, what do you think the legacy was?

So like the reason why I spend all this time telling you this. And so it can be clear. Like Daryl drove this bus down that road.

Okay. This was this was all my man. This was all Maury. He could have gone. anywhere with this and this is where he went.

So the question is why?

Well, I didn't ask him. I knew what I had when he sent that to me and kind of guessed what the reaction would be. But if we want to guess why he said what he said, I just think. He had an opportunity. uh he felt to tweak LeBron um a little.

You know, it goes back at least to 2019. You know, Daryl. put put out a a uh you know a social media post Supporting the protests in Hong Kong, which led to this massive dust-up between the NBA and China. And that cost LeBron a bunch of money. Uh it it prevented um Uh his movie Space Jam 2.

I'm showing over there. And LeBron was pretty upset about that. And it also, LeBron and the Lakers and the Nets were also caught. in China, right is all right is the controversy. Between Daryl and China and the NBA was blowing up.

So LeBron was really upset about this. He took Darrell to task for it. I'm sure Daryl didn't appreciate that. And so, you know, he gets this text from me, and I'm just guessing. a smart guy and that he did the calculations and and found a way that he thought he could tweak him.

And so I that that's that's where I think this came from. A forever beef.

Well, thank you, Joe, for continuing the beef. We appreciate you. Joe Varden joining us from the athletic. You talk about tweaking. LeBron James.

I mean, we've gotten so many stories over the past month about his relationship with the Lakers and now with Luca, and now he's on the verge of potentially signing this contract extension. Is this going to be the last season or half season that we'll see of LeBron James in a Lakers uniform? Is he destined at this point to end up somewhere else? No, I I I mean I think I would be foolish at this point to say no, to say that he's definitely going to retire as a Laker. that he's coming back to the Lakers next year.

That's always been my stance.

Okay, but there's there is a problem. With that, which was always very sound, very sound analysis. based on all the reporting and relationships I have with with people close to him, But the problem with the calculus is His aunt But he's still really good. Nope. Not even people close to him were kind of counting on that.

Like they kind of figured that, well, you know, in that by age 40, 41, he should be slowing down. You know, it should be easier. Like it's th this conversation should be easier about like Well, you know, maybe it's time to step away or you know, maybe you do take way less money on the dollar. to help T-Max in. That could be the Lakers.

You know, or it could be the Cavs or whoever, whatever you want to do, like, because you're nearing the end of your career. But he is still a second-team all NBA performer at this age. And so, you know, there's rules at this age about what kind of contract you can give a player in terms of years. Um And he himself has also still done this dance about retirement. Like, he still very much could walk away after this year.

So, you know, the Lakers obviously want the cap space for next summer. They want to go after somebody big, somebody expensive. It doesn't necessarily mean that LeBron's gone if he re if he chooses to come back to the league next year. Um You know, there's certainly a deal that can be worked out, and you know, his son will still be under contract here. Likers could be really good.

You know, I mean you mentioned Luka being in shape, like whether he's in shape or not. He does have a track record with playing a lot better. With co-stars after he's had a little bit of time with them. I mean, if you go back to When Kyrie Went to Dallas in that year where the Mavericks ended up missing the playoffs. You know, it was a really awkward pairing.

It didn't seem like it was going to work out well. And then the next year, obviously, they were awesome and went to the finals. Um and and it works great.

So You know, as long as LeBron is committed and is all right, you know, about everything going on. You know, he'll bring it, and I think Luca's going to be a lot better with him.

So. I I think the Lakers could be good. this year. And so, you know, that would seem to preclude the Lakers from doing something crazy like trading him or giving him a buyout. But it does certainly leave open the question of what happens next summer.

Yeah, the NBA is always wild with stories. We're being joined by Joe Varden, Senior NBA writer for the Athletic. And speaking of an LA team that might be old, they are old. I mean, you got Chris Paul, Batum, Hardin, Kawhi Leonard, whose body is very old, Brooke Lopez. They are.

an old team. It it doesn't necessarily work out Do you think they'll be able to make it through a season or at least towards the end to put those bodies all on the floor?

Well, I guess I'm looking at it in a slightly different way that this many veterans. who are as accomplished as they Okay. Maybe they all can play between 50 and 55 games. And have enough to win. 50 games, you know?

Like win 50, 51. Be in the top four in the West, you know. Get a good matchup in the first round. Um and be healthy. For that that stretch run, you know, where you have.

Big guards now, and also, you know, an accomplished point guard. You have Kawhi. You have Zubos, who's really good. Um And you have this coach that everybody loves in in in Tylu. uh who's getting grayer ev you know, by the day, by the way.

uh but but you know they so so it it's it is i think that's the idea there in in la You know, we've seen where these really old teams end up not working out, like, because of the injuries or because you just can't quite find the fit.

So I do think that's the possibility, but but you know If if Kawhi is available for fifty-five games, But but also Chris Paul is and and and also you know uh Bradley Beal is and And then on down the list, you know, I mean, that's that hardened, of course. I mean, that's pretty good look. Or Joe, speaking of an old team, old in a different way. The Golden State Warriors They've had these offers out to Jonathan Comingo. It's been reported that Comingo wants to go to the Sacramento Kings.

There's almost no way for him to get off of this team. Not at least in the summertime right now. Am I wrong? No, of course. Of course not.

I mean, of course, you're not wrong. Like, that's I mean, that's the idea of restricted free agency. If that team wants you. Yeah.

And it doesn't matter what the offer that the player gets in restricted free agency, they can match it. Um And by the way, you know, that that offer isn't out there. that massive offer that Cominga is chasing isn't out there.

So You know, there's these things called qualifying offers, which are cheap compared to. What you would make if you take the deal the Warriors are offering. You know, you take that and then you become an unrestricted free agent. You're essentially. Betting on yourself, you use the the year.

To play with a chip on your shoulder and the emotions of not getting the deal you wanted to fuel you. you play your butt off and then you go you you slam the door You're leaving free agency and go get what you want. Kaminga could do that, and then he could blow out a knee, he could what Achilles this and You know, tended, you know, torn ACL that, and then all of a sudden. you're entering free agency and you're damaged and and you don't have near the pedigree of players who've done that and gotten paid anyway.

So You know, ultimately, I do think he'll take a short-term deal to remain. with the Warriors for a couple of years. We're still waiting on Al Horford. Um I like him with the Warriors. You know, when Freedancy began, that seemed to be where this was trending.

I honestly am not sure why we don't have this done yet. Um but you know that's Yeah, they're another old team. I mean, they're happy with Jimmy Butler. They like how he came in last year. Steve likes coaching him.

He's another guy though with a track record of not playing a whole lot in the regular season. And players like that individually, they put pressure on your team.

So, I think for this to work at Golden State, Jimmy's got to be able to play 60, 65 games. We'll see if he does that. Hey, Joe, final question for you before we hit our news flash. You talk about Al Horford having yet to sign his deal. We have two point guards that are still kind of floating around as well.

Someone like Russell Westbrook, a former MVP of Future Hall of Famer. We have a former all-star, more recently, an injured disappointment in Ben Simmons. At what point do you think that they're going to be aligned with some teams? It could go I mean I mean, now we're like in no man's land, right? Like August.

is when people go on vacation. They all do. You know, the players. who haven't gone on vacation yet or do they go on another one? This is when all the front offices go on vacation.

Um September is when you start to get back into the flow of it.

So This could be a case where This gets settled like a week or two before a training camp.

Sometimes this happens during a training camp. like when they when you bring a guy in because of an injury or you see what happens Um you know i can't really tell you uh who I like for either of these or either of these players. You know, just because I live in Cleveland and I know what their point guard situation is. If Rust were willing to come in on a vet minimum, you know, he he would have a l a legitimate chance to win. Um And like they have, I mean, Darius Garland's going to be out a while.

They lost Ty Jerome. Traded for Alonzo Ball, but that's like an interesting s scenario. You know, you're just thinking of somebody at both of their stages of their careers where they're certainly not going to be the best player. not top two or three on any team.

So, you know, maybe in Russ's case, you're looking for one last shot in the winter. then you're probably looking more at a way to just kind of hang on in the league.

So, you know, I do think this could stress. I mean, let's look at it this way. I don't know if one of them has something cooking and they sign tomorrow, but this is that kind of thing that could go way into September. Yeah, most definitely. You're right.

I can't believe we're staring in the face of August, but. Here we are. Here we are. Hey, Joe, thank you so much for taking the time to join us to talk about your article and everything going on in the league. Are you getting a little vacation in, too?

Is it coming soon? You know, I certainly get familiar with the golf courses in Northeast Ohio. And my son, shout out to him. He is a freshman in high school and he has his first school golf match tomorrow so Certainly be there. But yeah, I've still been doing some work.

Hey, Bacha, did I just see? Is that Kyle Allen who threw a second interception? I don't know if that was I'm assuming that was the second interception.

So, yeah, it's time to get a Hendon Hooker in the game. Wow. And now this is when we find out or we get confirmation as to why some of these guys are backups. Just uh Back up. City.

eight eight eight seven ten four I S N It's eight at eight seven ten four ISN. The Chargers lead Detroit. A fourteen to nothing here, two minutes to go in the first quarter. Yeah.

Now, yeah, we'll see what happens. Battle of the backups: 888-710-481. 4ISN. That's 888-710-4ISN. Rashawn is calling from Baltimore.

You're on the JR Sport Brief Show. What's up, Rashawn? JR, what's going on, man? How are you doing? I'm good.

What's up? Eh, not much, man. It's just it's a little sad day in Baltimore. Man, the treats and everything, man. You knew it was going to happen, though.

Like, what am I missing? We did, but once it happened, it's like it really happened. It really went down and Somebody like Cedric Mullins, man, like one of the honestly the one of the greatest. Defensive center field is, I believe, in Orioles' history, you know, so. But he was going to leave at the end of the season.

Yeah, so he was, but I just don't understand why we couldn't re-sign him. Like, offer him a contract. Like Great defensive center fielders don't just come around like not a dime a dozen, like people make it out to be. You know, I know they say it's armed with suspects. and everything like that, but I mean, it's just.

That was a tough throw to swallow and um but uh like you said, we we knew it was coming. But just to actually hear it and see it happen just like, whoa, it really it really went down and And and also that was the um um was it Ryan O'Hearn. we knew that was coming to an aspiring contract.

So but Ramon Loriano, I don't know if you're not familiar with the guy, but we signed him to be like our fourth outfielder. He had a six point five team option for next year. I just understand, you know, not not keeping him around because What we're going to do is We're gonna go out to free agency. and sign somebody overpay for somebody. That's not going to give us most likely the same production that we could get out of Ramon Luriano for $6.5 million next year.

Well, under team control.

So, uh, if we're not in the rebuild, I just don't understand. Like, he I I'll I'll GM Mike Elias' cinemic signals. Right now, it's like, is this a rebuild or a retool? Maybe everybody on the Orioles is just. Just hurt.

Maybe that's it. Maybe it's just hurt on a bad year. Maybe that's it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Better luck next year.

Nobody expected to guess. Nah, nobody, nobody. You know, we're supposed to be the top of the L East this year. Hey, but you know, injuries you can't. Look at it this way.

By the time next season rolls around, You will have already gotten an entire season No, the Ravens. That's the bright side, okay? Look at the bright side. Yeah, yeah, until the playoffs though. I mean, I'm I'm fine with the Ravens through the regular season, but it's just something happens in the playoff.

Against Buffalo or Kansas City, they forget the play call. We want to switch it up now. And is there anything that you're optimistic about Baltimore related? Nothing, huh? I I'm well, I'm I'm optimistic of of just about the The Ravens, but it's just we know I'm I'm not even I don't even want to watch the regular season.

Fast forward to January. That's where it counts because we already predicted to be the Super Bowl contender and everything. But it's just that playoff when it happens is like, you know, something wacky or crazy always happens. And you know how he's been bald, but we can't take this no more. One more year of that, then this really is this city is going to burn down, man.

All right. Thank you, Rashawn.

Well, don't watch any more sports between now and. Hey, hey, Jay, one more thing, too. Listen, one more thing. One more thing. Besides being a Ravens fan, this is my last year of a Cowboys fan, too, you know?

So we should see. I know it's no, you know. Mm-mm. What I'm going to do is I'm going to go ahead and do it. Get $15 billion, and then you can then buy the Cowboys.

Thank you, Rashawn, for calling. From Baltimore. No doubt about it. Damn. Bacha, how did he end up with such bad luck?

Well, I guess it's not bad luck. He's just being very negative for no reason. Uh uh Orioles have new owners. They're not as cheap as they were. Angelo's family, yeah.

Yeah, so it could be a lot worse considering. And then the Ravens, the Ravens are good. They're great. Yeah, but I get it. Who cares?

Like, there's an expectation now for them to be good and then do something in January. That's what the expectation is. I would do. A lot of things to see my favorite football team make the playoffs. And that just doesn't happen.

So. The standards, just getting to the playoffs from there, the Jets can happen. The Jets are going on 15 years and not making the playoffs. If you were rooting for a good team, That's expected to be a Super Bowl contender every year. And every year they are, but they don't win in the playoffs.

There'd come a point in time where you would be like, okay.

Well, forget the regular season. What are they going to do in the playoffs?

So I mean, yeah, I mean, it's all relative as to who you root for. But if you're a Ravens fan, you just at this point gotta be like, all right, just make it through the regular season healthy. And let's see what happens from there. There's only one uh New York Jets botcher. There's only one.

Yeah.

That's true. But at the same time it's just the Ravens I don't know. You you're you're spoiled with good luck. Yes, bacha. I like the Yankees, okay?

Do you think I care what the Yankees do in the regular season? I do not. I do not care. Are you going to be healthy enough to make it to the postseason? What happens after that?

Beginning, end, and done. That's it. Finished. Like, what else? Why do I care about what's going on?

I don't know. And. In August, unless they're completely out of it, which I think has happened only really once in the last 20 years. Like, what do I care for? That's true.

We have way too many. high standards here in sports.

Well, who had it depends on what team you rule with? That's true. I think. Most The top half of the NFL You could argue that their fan base is have zero real purpose in the regular season with the the Chiefs, the Bills, The Ravens. Just be healthy, right?

Just be healthy. Get the Eagles at this point. Just get through the season. And it won't happen. That's part of the lore in watching.

You know, how good are they going to be? How dominant? What do they need to improve on as the season continues on? God forbid, who gets hurt?

Somebody's getting hurt. You know, you just hope it's not your guy.

So. Good luck to my man, Rashawn. Just don't watch anything. Nothing. Until January.

That'll that'll save you some time. I don't know what you're gonna do between now and then, but uh Go travel the world. No watch the Orioles. Um this Pay attention to the ravens from afar. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network.
