Eastern, 3 Pacific. I'm in Atlanta, Georgia. Thank you so much to our producer Holding Things Down in New York City, Ryan Botcher. There's a lot that we are going to get into here. Over the next four hours.
Of course, earlier today, thank God he's cool, he's okay. And we learned that Deion Sanders. Bladder cancer. The man had his bladder removed. Finally, he decided to share his own personal health story earlier today.
He's going to be sticking with Colorado. He's not stepping down as coach. We have Brian Howell joining us from Buff Zone in about two hours to break that down. We got a couple of people who showed up to work over the weekend. Shamar Stewart.
Cincinnati Bengals stalemate broken. Done. Terry McLaurin showed up to work. No new contract. PUP list with an ankle injury.
Oh, yeah, I bet. Rob Manfred Cursed out. Bryce Harper giving him the business, apparently, in the locker room. Why does anybody like Rob Manfred? He seems like uh universally hated as uh a commissioner.
Luka Doncich is, well, he's apparently healthy. Whole story in Men's Health magazine. Marcus Morris, you know the twins from Philly?
Well, he apparently has beef with a casino. Not good. Christian Wilkins, we found out that he was beefing with the Raiders about his foot. But apparently, he got a call from HR. He decided to kiss a teammate on the forehead or try to?
What do we? What are we doing here? Shaquille O'Neill hates Rudy Gobert, we'll explain. Ichiro Suzuki still holding a grudge against that one reporter who didn't vote him into the Hall of Fame. We got a lot to get into.
And Aaron Rodgers, surprisingly, not holding a grudge, With Terry. Bradshaw.
So we have a lot to discuss, a lot to get into. If you want to be a part of the show, you can. You can call me. You can pick up your phone. Or your cellular device, or whatever the heck they call it now, you can call me at 888-710-457.
4ISN. That's 888-710-487. You can always listen to this show on the Free Odyssey app. your local Infinity Sports Network affiliate, Sirius XM channel 375. And if you have a smart speaker, be smart.
Ask it to play. the Infinity Sports That worked. We're going to get into the individuals that are At work. Third McLaurin's at work, kind of sorder. Michael Parsons is at work, still no contract.
Shamar Stewart. At work, we're going to get into those individuals.
Someone who's also at work is Ryan Botcher. Ryan Botcher, you still at work. You still got a job. That's great. I think I'm here.
personally I know I'm here, or physically I'm here.
Well, that's a good thing.
Well, where the heck else would you be? In the clouds, maybe. I don't know.
Somewhere else.
Okay. All right.
Well, you could be at work in the clouds. Many people have been known to. You know, pop up at work in the clouds, but I'm glad that you are here, most certainly. Ah, what a day. What a weekend.
And then we got and then we got that clip. And I've been saying, Deion Sanders has been documenting. seemingly every aspect of his life for years. On podcasts, on videos, on shows, on social media. I can't keep up.
With everything that Deion puts out, everything that he does, the guy's been talking for about 30 to 40 years just. Just talking, that's that's what he does. God bless him. He talks. He's a master salesman, he's a master marketer, he's a master promoter of himself.
God bless him. He's made himself a lot of money. I think he's lost himself a lot of money. But apparently, right now, he's good. He's good.
And we know that he's been dealing with some health issues. over the past several years.
Okay, Dion has been a very open about issues with his his legs and clotting. He's been very open with issues in regards to taking digits off of his feet and amputations. He has had. Health issues. And it's a difficult thing to reconcile.
When you think about a professional athlete, When you think about Dion, what we know him for, Multi multi sport athlete. One of the best athletes, successful athletes overall, we've had in the history. of this country. And so to see some one be human, a super athlete. be human is just it's it's something to rack your brain around.
And so to all of Dion's health issues throughout the year. Just a couple months ago, we found out that there's something else. that he did not want to disclose. You know, he's putting out little hints here and there. Big Twelve media days a couple of weeks ago.
He didn't want to talk about his health. only wanted to focus in on his team. And then last night we got a message that Dion would be holding a press conference. He's been away from Boulder. He's been home in Texas.
Has been missing out on team activities and personal events in Colorado, and we didn't know why. Until it's a day. Dion gave us his diagnosis of having Bladder cancer. He had his bladder removed. This is something that took place not too long after the draft.
This is something that he knew before the draft. This is something that he didn't specifically share with his sons because he wanted them to focus in on the draft. Listen to Dion tell you about his diagnosis. I'm thankful. It's been a tremendous journey.
It's been tough. I think I dropped 25 pounds. I was like an Atlanta Valkyrie Prime at one point. Oh, well I told you, you think about a prime athlete, that's not the way that you want to get back into playing weight.
Now by having surgery But Dion is is certainly I've been going through it. He sat there with his doctors. God bless him. They were able to do this. as close to undercover as possible, typically things like this.
Leak out. I assume only the athletic director knew, his doctors knew, he said certain members of his family. Uh did not know at the time. And good on him. I mean, when it comes to matters of of health, You want to be able to maintain your privacy.
It doesn't matter if you're Deion Sanders or you're Dion around the corner. It really doesn't matter. And so he had this procedure done. In Colorado, and this is his doctor. He was surrounded by his doctor, yes.
Doctor Kirkja. I don't know who the hell this doctor is, may have butchered the name, but listen to the doctor, break it down. We discussed some options of treatment in the bladder and we discussed bladder removal as well. Given his commitments to his family and to the team elected to undergo a bladder removal, we performed a full robot-assisted laparoscopic bladder removal and creation of a new bladder. And I am pleased to report that the results from the surgery are that he is cured from the cancer.
Oh, that well, that's terrific. That's good. Cure to cancer is a beautiful thing. I know a lot of people want to hear those words. Bacha, did you hear that?
She she said something about a robot. Did you hear that? Yeah, they probably used a little robot with a uh either an a small knife or a laser, and they made a second bladder and got rid of the the the the the bump. Split 'em split 'em open. Wow, yeah.
Roll I mean Top notch. I mean, we've seen, did you see, there was a video I saw. online. This this maybe months ago. where it was it was a robot It was so precise.
It did surgery. I think it might have been on like A grape or a kernel of corn. Did you see that? Yeah, I've seen the surgery runic group videos and it's like it's absurd. It's it's something so small.
Well, the item is so small. But the robot can still be so precise, which is great for healing. You know, it's one thing to have to have somebody, you know, physically cut you open. Versus a robot who can perform a small incision, which will definitely. Promoting healing.
So, hey, we're moving into the wonders of modern technology. Deion Sanders is certainly someone. who's benefited from it. And even with this new bladder, Dion is well still Dion. He was saying today, making jokes about him and his grandson having bladder issues.
He says that he wears adult diapers. He says that he might put a porta potty on the sidelines. He's peeing four and five times a night. Dion still was Dion. Listen to what he said.
Thank God now I'm I depend on depend. You know, you know what I mean? I truly depend on the pen. Like, I cannot control. Love letter.
So I get up and go to the bathroom. already four or five times a night. but then I'm sitting up there waking up, you know. Like my grandson, we're in the same thing. We got the same problem right now.
We're going through the same trials and tribulations. We're trying to see who has the heaviest bag at the end of the night. It's ridiculous.
Okay, all right, Dion. A little too much information, a little TMI there. From Deion Sanders, but but good thing that he's he's good. And it's a good thing that i i i i in his own time that he's sharing this with other people. Because these are realities, unfortunately, that that we as humans face.
As we get older, I mean, the last time I checked, I don't think anybody out here is bionic. I don't think anybody is gonna live forever. And things change, and things happen as you get older. And Deion Sanders was faced with this reality. And he pretty much said just a couple of months ago.
you know, not knowing what was going on, that he had to sit down and and had to put together a will. Mental. Emotionally. Last night was tough, yesterday was tough. Because I had to Make a will.
Listen, that's not. Easy. At all. Do think that you may not be here. Yeah, like he had to sit down and make a will.
That was in the. I guess we can call it teaser video. you know, prior to his announcement. Uh earlier today. And now it's for Dion, I mean it's all full steam ahead, To football.
You know, what's gonna happen with Julian Lewis, who's probably too young to go out there and and start for Colorado. What about Caden Salter? Who knows who came over from Liberty? I mean, we know where Shador is. Shador is in Cleveland right now, hoping to get his cracking shot.
To be the Browns' starting quarterback, it might happen sooner than later. Kenny Pickett got injured over the weekend. We'll get into that. But now he can focus in on football. And I don't know how good things are going to look for Colorado.
This is certainly an adjustment year. I think it might be a modern miracle if they get past. Damn it, dare I say. even even seven victories. And Dion can make jokes about porta potties and And talk about wearing the pens.
When it comes to the actual football, he says he's He's good. He was asked about His staff, he was asked about coaching. Is he going to quit? Was he concerned that he was going to quit? This is what he said about that.
I always knew I was going to coach again. I never didn't realize I was going to coach again. I was always going to coach. It was never in my spirit, in my heart, that God wouldn't allow me to coach again.
Okay. That's good. That's fine. But are you going to change things up? Are your assistant coaches going to have more work, Dion?
Anything going to change? I don't have to rely on them. I'm back, baby. I'm back. I don't rely on them no more.
I'm going to be with them. You know, the Bible says, remember? Remember the rod and thy staff, they comfort me.
Okay, so we're going to comfort one another. And I love them. We have a wonderful staff. And thank God that they're good enough that I don't have to babysit. I don't have to be there every minute, too.
And I know they got that.
Okay, Dion is Well, he was Dion. In every aspect and everything. He's just Deion Sanders. quoting Bible verses and He wore his shades and his cowboy hat made jokes about goin' to the restroom at night, He sounded good. He was light hearted about it.
He sat on the stage today and s was like, Hey, I got I got Eight toes and marks in my legs that look like I've been bit by a shark, and he says. I'm still here. Dion is is still here. And pretty much in closing today, now we can get back to the football. This has been maybe what?
A month or so, two months since this uh Mystery illness has has been out there. Dion just had a message. For the men, for anybody, just Go to the doctor. Don't be shy. Listen.
But please get yourself checked out. Especially African American men, we don't like going to the doctors, we don't like nothing to do with a doctor, you know that.
So I'm not just talking to the brothers, I'm talking to my Caucasian brothers, my Hispanic brothers, my Asian brothers, my everybody, and my sisters. And that's all, y'all. Get checked. Oh. Because it could have been A whole Another gathering.
If I had. I'm thankful. It's been a tremendous journey It it's been tough. I think I dropped 25 pounds. I was like an Atlanta Valkyrie Prime at one point.
You know. Wow. Yeah, I mean, get checked out. Bacha, didn't you say you had your physical last week? I did, and everything came back.
Thank goodness clean.
So we're good. Good, good, good. Yeah, I I'm due. I don't remember I gotta I gotta remember when. I give it once a year.
I guess it's it should be coming up. I think it may I dunno. It might be uh September, October. I don't know.
Maybe I'll check in a break, but I'm due. A four physical. It's been quite some time. It is it's hard to believe, damn. Staring at it on this screen in front of me in the studio.
It is July 28th. twenty twenty five. We are we have gone through seven damn months. of 2025. We are looking at 2026.
Oh my God. Take me back. Just take take me back.
Sounds crazy. Take me back 30 plus years. You can take me back further. I would appreciate that. Damn.
Damn. Yeah, I'm due for a physical. Hey, congratulations. And to Dion for being cancer free. And much love to you if you're out there, if you're fighting cancer, you know somebody who's fighting and dealing with cancer.
The world will be a better place when we can figure out How to get rid of it. And stop it. Good on Dion. Good luck this upcoming season. Whether you love the man, you hate the man, you can't stand the man.
It's nice to know that the man is still here. How much longer he coaches, I have no idea with all these health issues. I think Dion is better suited for TV, if you ask me. But hey, you get this opportunity, you get this job, there's no guarantee that you have another one waiting for you. And so, all the best to him and everything that he does.
It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you, coast to coast, on the Infinity Sports Network. We're just getting warmed up. We're just getting started. I told you, we got Brian Howell, who covers all things, Colorado Buffaloes. He'll be here with us in two hours.
We're going to get into some more football. I told you about Bryce Harper cursing out Rob Manfred. Of course, we got the Dallas Cowboys alienating Michael Parsons. What else is new? And I did mention that we got a couple of guys who showed up to work over the weekend.
couple of holdouts who have reported For duty. Kinda sorta. I'm talking about Shamar Stewart with the Cincinnati Bengals. I'm talking about Terry McLaurin. With the commanders.
I'm going to give you the details on their individual situations on the other side of the break. If you want to call me, you can. 888-710-4ISN is the number. That's 888-710-4ISN. I'm just getting warmed up.
This is like the uh It's like the intro. This is the pregame. It's the JR Sport reshow on the Infinity Sports Network. You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you, coast to coast.
on the Infiniti Sports Network. We talked about the news earlier today from Deion Sanders. Had bladder cancer, was caught early, bladder removed. He is now. Cancer Free.
That's news that we received earlier today. I told you, in two hours from now, we'll have a chat with Brian Howell. From Buff Zone, covers all things, Colorado Buffaloes. He'll be here with us in two hours. Over the weekend, though.
Well, we did have some NFL news in action. It didn't take but a week. Before we had a couple of players who decided to show up for work, Terry McLaurin finally making it to Commander's Camp, and then we have Shamar Stewart. who finally decided to sign, His rookie deal.
Now, the circumstances between the two are very different. We know Shamar Stewart. He's a rookie. Coming out of Texas AM. Giant freak of an athlete.
The knock on him is. Is he going to get to the quarterback? when he gets to the NFL. It's one of the issues. He can get into the backfield, but he has some difficulties in actually bringing.
The QB down. And he had some language in his contract that he did not like. That the Bengals were trying to kind of match up with the rest of the NFL in regards to. His guarantees, you know, conduct detrimental to the team. We heard owner Mike Brown say last week: if this guy gets locked up, and is sitting around in the jail cell.
I don't want to pay him.
Well, apparently, the Bengals are one of the teams in the NFL that hasn't had this language in contracts, and this has been. A sticking point. But over the weekend A little bit of a compromise. They kept the contract language in. And they gave him a half million dollar signing bonus.
And now, all is well in the world.
So, the guy is gonna be playing on his four-year, $18 million rookie contract. What a sad, sad world! Even if the guy doesn't pan out in going out there and replacing Sam Hubbard. And we know if the Cincinnati Bengals need help with anything. It's that damn defense.
Pathetic. The defense kept them out of the postseason last year. The defense kept. Joe Burrow further away from winning the MVP, even though he was still one of the finalists. And so Shamar Stewart.
Been missing in action, MIA. Finally on the field, finally practicing, he spoke to the media, and this is what he had to say about his contract finally being done. Man, I was happy. You know, it was time for all football and number football now. You know, I don't gotta worry about anything else but football.
It's great. The moment where pen hit paper, did that have a certain feel to it? You know. Growing up, saying, dreaming this dream. You never knew what it felt like.
Like nobody could ever put it in words, but I still can't even put in the word like it still didn't hit me yet, but like I just felt happy, like a deep sense of joy.
Well, damn it, I'd feel a deep sense of joy too if I knew I had eighteen million dollars coming my way. Bacha, would you feel a deep sense of joy? I would be jumping for joy, crying tears of joy, all of it. Yeah, for you, we know how you feel.
Now we got Shamar Stewart continuing on. Of course the media had to ask him, Hey man, but you've been missing some of this work. You've been missing some of this practice. Or, I'm not going to say measly, all for a measly $500,000 advance. Did you regret holding out?
Listen to what he said. Nope. I try to live my life with no regrets.
Okay, all right.
Well, It's July. The man has August To get it together? And damn it, he has his entire uh rookie season. He got a month. I'm pretty sure he's going to get extra reps and and everything, especially as we get ready, this sounds crazy to say.
We're getting ready for preseason action. I'm not going to be watching too much of it. It'll be background noise. We paying attention to some of the storylines, but Now he'll be out there. And now he says he's happy to be amongst his teammates, I'm sure.
Of course, you know, you gotta keep the energy up on both sides. You know, that's how you have a fun practice. That's how you make the game fun. If you're out there with no energy, it's gonna be a long day for anybody.
So, if you go out there having fun with your teammates, then it's gonna be a good practice. Felt like you guys were celebrating a lot. Of course, you know. You gotta celebrate each other. You know, that's how that's the love for the game.
You know, you gotta celebrate your teammates. You gotta celebrate your brothers whenever you do something right. Listen, man, It was all good and well, it wasn't good. It was terrible. About a month ago he basically slammed ownership.
This man said that we should get the contract done. He said it's the It's the Bengals' fault that we're here right now. He took a massive crap on Mike Brown, and now the deal is done. Money in, show up the work, keep it moving, try to replace Sam Hubbard. I still think the Bengals' defense is going to suck.
But what are you going to do? And by the way, Trey Hendrickson, uh I guess he's still in Florida. Still no contract. Still up. Is that Speaking of someone who's still upset, he's the opposite of Shamar Stewart.
He showed up to work. after being fined fifty thousand dollars a day for not doing so. It's Harry McLaurin. It showed up. to Washington commanders, Training camp.
Now here's a twist. Terry McLaurin is not a rookie. This man is on the other side of thirty. He's entering into the final year of his contract. He's making a measly $22 million a year given his production and his age.
Some of the top wide receivers, these guys are like. Five and six years younger than him, Jefferson making 35, Chase on the other side of 40 mil. He's making 22. He's like, listen, man. I just had 13 touchdowns last year.
I was the key wide receiver for Jaden Daniels. Pay me my money. And so he showed up to work, but guess what? He doesn't have a new contract. He's not even working.
He's on the P U P list. He got an ankle issue. that he's been dealing with dating back to the end of last season.
Now, if you're asking me, this sounds like a little bit of, hey, I'll show up to work. But I'm not gonna practice because my ankle hurts. And I'm pretty sure if he had a new contract, this guy's ankle would be feeling like a million bucks. And I think this is a little bit of a compromise from the Washington commanders. It's just so the guy would stop.
getting fine. I don't believe the injury, but what do I know, huh? Dan Quinn, Mr. Nice Guy, the head coach of the Washington Commanders, he gave an update on Terry McLaughlin and his injury. Terry reported yesterday he'll start training camp on PUP with an ankle injury and Adam and his team still working with Terry regarding contract stuff.
But PUP, start working some rehab with training staff, with medical staff and then we'll build him back up. What's the injury? He had an ankle at the end of last season.
So it's just kind of, that's not that uncommon where sometimes it lingers into the offseason, into training camp.
So that's where it's at. Ah, yeah. Lingering ankle injury from um Seven months ago. He can't practice. We haven't heard anything about an ankle.
Now, all of a sudden, his ankle hurts.
Okay, Terry McLaurin. All right.
Terry McLaurin, he spoke as well. He talked to the media. And let's just say some of the questions going his way, he did not want to answer. Terry, how much closer are you to working out a deal? We're just taking it day by day.
Being here in the building though, how does that improve the dialogue? Uh just taking it day by day. Are you going to be able to practice at some point, or how far away from being healthy are you? Just taking it day by day. Thanks, Eric.
Appreciate it. No, boy, taking it day by day. Ask from nothing, taking it day by day. He's just taking it day by day. It's like everybody's been reading out of the Marshawn Lynch playbook.
I'm just here.
So I won't get fine. Just here, so I won't get fine. I'm just here, so I won't get fine. What did Terry McLaurin actually want to talk about today? He wanted to Talk about the fans.
He was signing autographs for like thirty, forty minutes. And it's unbelievable. That's this part that gives you joy. Like, you kind of lose sight of some things sometimes when the business gets involved, but I never lost sight of the way they supported me and the way that I pour into them and the way they poured into me.
So, at the end of the day, it's business, but it has nothing to do with them. And any chance I could come out here, do what I got to do in there, but come out and show them my support and how much I love them. I'm going to always do that. I've always been that way.
Okay. All right, yeah.
Well, I mean, why not? He's been said to be a nice guy. I've never met the dude. Everything I ever hear about Terry McLaurin is how great of a guy he is, how great of a teammate he is. And he's looking for his payday.
I'm I'm not mad at him. He was the weapon. that just helped Jaden Daniels have one of the best rookie seasons ever. Arguably, The best rookie season by quarterback ever. the man was one step away from going to the Super Bowl.
We know they got smacked the hell down by the Philadelphia Eagles. But Terry McLaurin is going to get a contract, but apparently. the money that he's looking for He wants to break the The bank, apparently, he wants more than $33 million. A year. He wants more.
Then DK Metcalf. I don't know if he's getting that, man. You might have to settle right there for I don't know. A thirty-one, thirty-two, but thirty-three mil That's a lot of money for a guy on the other side. of thirty and I'm not no No cap.
I'm not one of these dudes who sit down and studies the cap. I just like watching people hit each other, okay? But I'll tell you this much. He old. And if they give him a deal, I'm going to assume they're going to want to give him as much money upfront as possible.
So, if something happens, unfortunately, to Terry McLaurin, that they just go out there and they're able to cut bait. But I'll tell you this much. It is July. There is another month. We got all of August staring us in the face.
I'd be shocked. If Washington and Terry McLaurin don't come to terms. Want a new deal. Because Jaden Daniels, he deserves as much heading into his second season. Why do you want to chop the guy out, chop his legs out from underneath him?
And he just got here to the league. And we n have no idea what he's gonna look like. In year number two, But in a lot of cases People study tape, they look at you, they try to figure things out. It it'd be tough. For him to replicate what he did last year and not having Terry McLaurin on the field.
That would be criminal. That would be criminal. By Washington to do so. They'll work out a deal. And I think it'll be in that.
It'll be north of 30. I don't know if it's going past. 33. It's the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. Yeah, I showed up to work.
Shamar Stewart's at work, Botch is at work. Terry McLaurin reluctantly at work. When we come back, we're going to tell you about another NFL player. He's actually healthy, God bless him. There was concern last week that he might have been cooked.
And then Oh yeah. We had a bunch of players get inducted into Cooperstown. Last night. We're going to talk about the Hall of Fame. And and Ichiro Suzuki, who would have known this guy?
is a modern day. Comedian. We'll hear some of his jokes on the other side of the break, but right now it is not a joke. He's here at work, too. It's time for a news flash with Rich Ackerman.
You're listening to the JR Sport Brief. It is the JR Sport Brief Show here with you coast to coast. on the Infiniti Sports Network. I need you to thank O'Reilly Auto Parts for all of your car care needs, get guaranteed low prices, and excellent customer service. from the professional parts people at O'Reilly.
Auto parts. 888-710-4ISN. That is the number. That's 888-710-400. 4ISN.
Before we talk about the Hall of Fame inductions yesterday in Cooperstown, I mentioned to you Shamar Stewart and Terry McLaurin showed up to work this weekend. Shamar Stewart signing his rookie deal. The Bengals said, Hey, you don't want to take language out the contract about conduct detrimental to the team?
Well, here's an advance. Show up to work. They gave him a half million dollar advance, and all is well in the world. Terry McLaurin. He's at work.
But he's on the physically unable to perform list. They say he has a lingering. uh ankle issue from seven months ago That's preventing him from practicing. Oh, yeah, okay, sure. I'll see that when I believe that.
Apparently, he wants to make. more than $33 million a year. As a wide receiver, I don't know if that money. It's coming to him. But I think by the time we get to September and by the time Washington is out there having played its first game.
I think he'll be right the hell there. And by the way, speaking of right the hell there. Justin Fields back at work to day. It was only, what, like, last Thursday? Where everybody looked, and Justin Fields is getting stepped on.
Somebody stepped on his toe and Dislocated it. They're like, oh my God, well, I guess that's a good thing. At least it's not an ankle or an Achilles or a knee. And he was right back at it at work today. They kept him in the pocket.
They didn't have him running around like a crazy person. But he was back at work. Listen to the Jets' new head coach, Aaron Glenn, talk about Justin Fields.
Well, he was limited, but he was limited the way that we want to be limited. You know, so um He made some good throws out there. And again, when Justin get on the field, I mean, we're going to let him be who he is. And there are some things that he did today that I was very pleased with. But there's also some things he got to get better at, too.
You know, he knows that.
So yeah, he's um he was out there with us in in in Every day I look forward to him just maturing and getting better. Ah, okay.
Well it A sigh of relief Mike Greenberg is okay now. He doesn't have to have a conniption on TV. Bacha, you're okay, right? You happy feels is good? I am genuinely so happy that There's someone not Terrible off the start being there for Chats?
Okay, all right.
Well, we don't know that yet, right? It's better than what they have.
Well, he's not the long. There's a hope, and I think people are just like: all right, whatever, it's the Jets. There's a hope that he might be the long-term answer. Nettie has finally found a home after, you know, obviously starting in Chicago, going over to Pittsburgh. But I think the likelihood that he's the long-term, he's our answer at QB for the next five to 10 years.
I'm I'm I'm going I'm taking the under. On that one. What do you think? You think he's going to be the long-term answer for them? No.
If he's going to be probably a two-year bridge to their next guy. Oh, man.
So they're going to have to suck again, huh? Is that what you're thinking? They'll be bad this year. Probably draft a guy and then do the long-term development. Yeah, but you got to be real.
Well, not really, but it's the Jets. The Jets would have to be real bad. Awful, terrible. Ugly. To just get their hands on a guy that they can draft and go, Oh, yeah, we feel comfortable.
That he's the God. Because them drafting these dudes has not worked out. It's not Zach Wilson, it's not Sam Darnold. Those guys weren't. weren't sure fire.
The Jets need a surefire guy. Where the entire league, the entire NFL looks at the guy and goes, Damn. I wish I was able to go out there and draft that guy. The Jets somehow, someway always ended up always selecting at number three or four. and then just getting a turnover machine who gets eaten alive By the media.
So good luck to Justin Fields. If it doesn't work with him, The Jets are just gonna have to they're gonna have to tank And it feels like they've been tanking forever. They haven't seen the postseason and what going on fifteen years now. That's the longest stretch. And streak.
in professional sports and all of North America. I mean, they were right there along with the Sacramento Kings, which is crazy to think. The Kings. Haven't been in the playoffs in that long until, what, two seasons ago? They were right there with him.
And now the New York Jets are now carrying this on.
So good luck to Justin Fields. At least He can go out there and suit up. Yeah, what's a dislocated cell? Nothing. They go back out there and snap it in and put them out there.
And good luck to the New York Jets. Game one. is going to be against the Pittsburgh Steelers. You know Aaron Rodgers is getting ready to light them Up. And speaking of Aaron Rodgers, we'll get to him later in the show.
Little bit of an olive branch. onto Terry Bradshaw, who apparently doesn't like. Aaron Rodgers. Anyway, those are two. One is in a Hall of Fame, one will be.
In a Hall of Fame. And last night, Cooperstown. They inducted the latest players in. Ichiro Suzuki went in. C.C.
Sabathia went in, Billy Wagner went in, Dave Parker. God rest his soul. In Pirates Legend, this man died like a month ago. and his son had to induct him. last night.
And so I didn't watch it. Did you watch the Hall of Fame last night? I called. The end of Ichiro's speech on MLB Network. Other than that, no.
Wow. Yeah, I didn't watch, man. It was like a rain delay.
So it's like, come on.
Well, I feel nowadays with social media. It's it's like, why do I need to commit? Three hours, four hours, you're talking about a delay. Why do I want to commit that amount of time? When I could just get the best clips in the palm of my hand in 30 seconds, I can't tell you.
The last time I watched a Hall of Fame For anything. And these are huge names. Ichiro, one of my favorite players ever, a CC Sabathia. I think he's kind of the modern era pitcher that we see because it's going to be tough for guys to just get to 300 wins now. A CC finish with 251.
Played for almost 20 years, though, 2001 to 2019, and then Billy Wagner. He got in on his last year Of eligibility. Before Billy got in, they made this guy sweat. He was five-votes shy. uh last year a superstar uh a closer mostly for The Astros, throwing them back to the Padres as well.
But let's listen to Ichiro. 'Cause it's rare that you hear him just speak English fully. in public. And Ichiro's a funny guy. He was like, hey, yeah, I got to the Hall of Fame.
No thanks to that one loser who decided not to vote me in. Listen. Baseball taught me what it means. to be a professional. And I believe that is the main reason I am here today.
Not because my skills are better than others. Three thousand hits or 262 hits in one season are achievements recognized by the riders.
Well, Oh, but one view. Oh He then continued on. He's like, Listen, That guy who didn't vote me in There's no longer an invite for dinner or a drink at my house. He said it's done. And that guy's a loot.
Like, how you not. Like, what personal grudge? If you got a personal grudge like that with Ichiro, then you don't deserve to have a vote? Whoever didn't put him in is just a loser. Like, how do you not do that?
That's ridiculous. Ichiro's hilarious. We know that he uh Tr well, didn't end, but he had a stint. With the Marlins later on in his career, the Yankees went back to Seattle. Ichiro says David Sampson, when he got the call, he said, I didn't even know the Marlins were a team.
And to the Miami Mountains. I appreciate David Sampson. and Mike Hill for coming today. Honestly, When you guys called to offer me a contract for 2015, I have never heard of your team. Oh my god, that's rough.
That's rough. Bacha, there's no reason for him to tell a lie there, right? He was serious. No, Nichiro's kind of a troll. He's very, he's very much one.
I mean, yeah, I'm like, can you be that hyper-focused? The guy knows every. I mean, Anybody that learns a different language just to trash talk someone. is one hundred percent crazy enough to do this. Like why are you gonna do that at the Hall of Fame?
That's rough. Ouch. And then you gotta think about the poor Marlins fans. Oh. I'm like, damn, they still had interleague play in 2015, not as often as they have now.
Interleague, what is that? Everybody's just playing everybody at this point in time. Ichiro's in the hall. Good for him. MVP, rookie of the year in 2001.
Mariners won 116 games, still couldn't beat. uh you know, the Yankees to go to the World Series, but And Ichiro, just amazing. He was a baseball player. He did everything out there, whatever you needed him to do to go and win. He did so.
Congratulations. I mentioned C.C. Sabathia as well. Had a couple of jokes for Ichiro during his uh his uh speech. Listen.
Thank you to the baseball writers. Thank you to the fans out there. And thank you, most of all, to the great players sitting behind me. I am so proud and humbled to join you as a Hall of Famer. Even Ichiro, who stole my Rookie of the Year award in 2001.
Yeah, this stuff He chose a bad yeah, Nicholas a bad man. Cece Zabathia, we know he started his career off in Cleveland, ended up going to the Bronx after the fact. This is what he had to say about joining the big bad Yankees. We said to ourselves, we'll play anywhere on the planet as long as our family is together. When Amber and I were kids, things in our family were inconsistent.
Now we had three kids of our own, and we wanted to plant roots. That's what we talked about. That's how we made the best decision we ever made. Eleven months later, she was there in the Bronx as we won the 2009 World Series. That's great.
Yeah, Yankees brought him in, helped get him over the hump. It's crazy to think that's the last time the Yankees I win a World Series. Damn it, they try to win and win like 90 games every single season, 90 plus. and they haven't hoisted a trophy In that long. Billy Wagner?
He talked about baseball and his life coming full circle now that he's finally in. Being up here today, I feel like my baseball life has come full circle. I was a fan before I could play, and back when baseball wasn't so available on TV, every Saturday morning I watched Johnny Bench and so many of the other greats on his show, The Baseball Bunch.
Now here I am, standing among you. It's really hard to believe. You're good for him? This is his final year, his final chance, and The only dude out of the three that I just mentioned, between each year old, CeCe Sabathia, and Billy Wagner, only. Only Cece has a has a championship.
Billy had the bounce around and each hero bounced around later in his career. But only Cece has that World Series that he won with the Yankees in 2009. Congratulations to Ichiro Cece, Sabafia, and Billy Wagner. It's the JR Sport B show here with you coast to coast on the Infinity Sports Network. We got a future Hall of Famer.
He decided to give Rob Manfred, the commissioner, a peace of his mind. cursed Adam, told him to get out of the locker room. I'm going to tell you who went at the commissioner on the other side. It's the JR Sport Reeshow, the Infinity Sports Network. Yeah.
