This is the Truth Network. Ladies and gentlemen, the following contest is set for one floor. Introducing first from Lithuania. He weighs 123 kilos, the Russian. Nightmare.

Welcome to another episode, QA with Cole off the Devil's Nightmare. Welcome back to another episode, QA with Koloff: Questions and Answers. And I am excited to have this man on the call with me today, Doug Brown. Welcome to QA with Koloff. Yes, sir.

I appreciate you too, man. Yeah, I'm Doug from China Grove, North Carolina. Uh sixty-four years old. Uh got a wife forty-one years. Uh son thirty-six.

Uh dollar thirty-three Um I'm a fabricator by trade. I've been doing heat and air conditioning at the same company for. 40 years. Uh And it's been good. I go to uh Village Chapel in Cannapolis.

I call that home my home. I've been there for, I guess, twelve, thirteen years. And God has really blessed us.

So Um It's really been good. I met Nikita through church. Uh, I actually was in the uh Greensboro Coliseum when him and Dusty Rhodes came out for the first time as the superpowers because my daddy. Absolutely love wrestling. And so we went, we went everywhere, everywhere we could.

And then I got to know Nikita at church, and it's been great. I can call him my friend now and uh Man, it's been really good.

Well, that's pretty amazing.

So, all right, so so let me let me backtrack a couple couple on a couple of things here.

So, you you and your bride, you say 31 years? Is that what you said? 41. 41 years. Oh, my 41 years, and we'll uh, I've been at the same company for 40 years.

Work it. 40 years at the same company. Yeah. Gosh, that so they're supposed to give you like a gold watch or something, dude. Oh, she probably does.

I'd be done. Hey, man, I always tell people I wasn't a very good husband the first five years 'cause I really didn't understand it all. And you know what? But I really say I wasn't a very good husband my first five years.

Well, hold that thought. That's interesting. Interesting statement there, but because 40, well, let me back up. 41 years of marriage, we're high school sweethearts. I mean, where'd you guys meet?

You need to speak up just a little bit. High school sweethearts. Where where do you knew her? They worked worked in. My mom knew her sister and they introduced us.

I was in the Navy. And uh she came she was a PK pastor's kid. And I came home from the Navy one one weekend and she had some frozen pipes and haste and My mom says, Hey, he'll fix it. And, you know, friends from then on, and then became. Uh my wife probably two years later.

Yeah. Wow, that's amazing her name is? Yeah uh Man, I tell you, um Yeah. Your wife's name. What's your wife's name?

Uh Jan.

Okay. Yeah, Ann Brown, and her dad was a church of God of prophecy. uh pastor up in uh uh Hendersonville. The bar in the Bavard area up in there.

Now, is that where you grew up, though? Did you grow up in that area? I grew up right in Cannopolis. I grew up right there, went to school with A.L. Brown.

Uh uh matter of fact from from the church. from the church, my home church right now. It's probably about a mile and a half where I grew up. My kids always say I grew up in the ghetto, but hey.

Okay. All right.

Well, hey, we all got to grow up somewhere, right? That's right. We all got to grow up somewhere.

So, hey, thank you for serving, by the way. How many years in the Navy? I had six years in the in the Navy. Yeah. Um ran um finished my E6.

E6 exam before I got out. I hadn't been. paid paid a E five and made a E six. And yeah, really that was a really great time 'cause I really grew up a lot. Got to got to go out of Cannapolis and go to San Diego, California, which was a big difference.

And, you know, so that was, yeah, that was a good time. Yeah, the military, I've heard many stories. I've never been in the military, but many stories about how that definitely. will help help a young man grow up Really quick sometimes, really quick. Yep.

Yeah, yeah, I I really did en enjoy it. And one thing I probably you probably don't know, I guess, about me is I Got led to the Lord right here in my own living room. uh always called uh Ma I I always tell a story about it was my wife's pastor.

Okay. It wasn't my pastor at the time, but Man, right here, uh, went through a really dark time, bad time. My dad got killed by a drunk driver 35 years ago or so. And so I was really having a bad time with it and I was here by myself one Saturday morning Um, heard a knock at the door. I'm thinking, oh man, who is this, man?

I'm having a bad day. What are they doing here? And looked out there, and the pastor said, Hey, I was 30 miles from here going in the opposite direction, and there was one name come to my mind, and here I am.

Well Wow, so right there in your old living room. The reason I tell you I had a dark time because I spent nights in the cemetery, spending the night in the cemetery.

So I told him at that time, I said if If your God is as awesome as you say he is, I said today I want to know I want to know beyond, beyond, beyond. And he led me to the Lord right here in my own living room. Uh that's been thirty-five years ago. I my wife was at her folks' house In the mountains visiting, and I call her and I said, Well, you ain't never gonna believe because, hey, I've heard her call my name outside the bed. In prayer for years and years and years, and she had prayed, and she said, Hey, do I need to come home?

I said, Nope, I'm going to bed. Wow. A praying wife. A praying wife. Yeah, yeah, yeah, man, yeah.

Oh man, I can tell you some great stuff, man. I had the opportunity to forgive a guy that had. Uh killed my bad. Uh so Got the opportunity to do that, and it was like chains just falling off. I mean, That was so crazy good.

Didn't like what he had done, but had to forgive them anyway. Right. It's freedom. That forgiveness can really unlock some prison doors, can it? Right, right, right.

And see, one other time that's coming to mind right now. as there were some guys that were uh Here we was out one Sunday, Father's Day. and they had broken into the house And so Uh you do all the court battling and all that stuff. And so a year and a half went by, and I see him in food at food line parking lot, and I'm kind of like, you know, you get in that posture like. Uh okay, here we go.

We're gonna start now, you know.

So no, he he came to me and he said, Mr. Brown, he said, I've given my life over to the Lord. I want you to forgive me. And I said, I hugged him and I said, from this point on, it's done. I mean, unless you need me in your story.

You you know, it's done with me.

So man, I can tell you that's good stuff. Water under the bridge. Yeah, water under the bridge. And there may be people out there who struggle with, you know, whether it's forgiving someone else, or of course, many times I've heard, Doug, and I know you have as well, or just forgiving themselves, right, for maybe something they did, or maybe even something they said. And for you out there in listening, land, you know, that is something you struggle with.

I mean, you know, seek some help on that. Seek your pastor, seek a friend, seek the Lord ultimately. Oh, oh, yeah. I got a guy that works with me right now, and he's always asking me questions. And I said, I love to be able to talk to you, and I want to talk to you.

But the one I'm not the one that you're seeking. I'm not the one. Um So I have to tell him, is you turn it over to God Yes. And this is just how easy it is And he keeps fighting, he keeps fighting. Uh but Anyway.

I get that opportunity to talk to him every day And we go through this, and I know that it's wearing on him a little. I mean, I know the conversation is not wearing on him. I know that it's having some. Having an impact. Having an impact.

Yep, yep, yep, that's what we're looking for. Yeah, well, let's shift let's shift gears and take take a take a few just a few minutes and talk about your man camp experience.

Now, let me just say before you say anything, you know, I know you know, I'm very familiar with Village Chapel. Of course, they're supporters to the ministry. We've had friends, I've had a friendship with some of those guys for years and years and years and years. And as you mentioned, you know, even getting to know you there. And so, you know, you make the decision to come to camp.

And, you know, we like to say, I like to say it's not just an event, it's an experience. And so, Doug, what would you say, one or two highlights from your man camp experience?

Now, you've been very grounded in your faith. A lot of guys talk about, in fact, I heard them brag on your relationship with your wife and what you guys model. But for our listening audience, what's one or two quick nuggets that you could share to our listeners out there? Yeah. Okay, what I say my first thing that, you know, that I was that even I can just tell you, when I pulled up in the drive there, coming up to the camp there on the property.

I could just feel that God's presence was so right there. And I was thinking absolutely at that time, I was thinking, man, this is just going to be an absolutely fantastic week. Um Got the time man, got to spend some time with my brothers, got to meet some new brothers. uh that are from Village Chapel. Got to spend some time with them.

And I like that and it was really a really good experience. Um having them in a different light, you know? You know what I mean? Yeah, because I think you shared with me like Jeff James, for example. He's one of your pastors.

And you got to see Jeff, not... not necessarily be a pastor, but see him be a leader. And he's up in front of the room. He's meeting you guys out in the morning to start your day, sharing little nuggets, little nuggets of truth or doing some of the teachings. And so, yeah, you really got to see him in a different role, right?

Man, I told him, I said, I get to see him flip the switch. I mean, brother, he is called to do what he is doing. He is called to do that. Yes, I agree. Jeff, if you're listening, I agree.

He's fishing right now.

Well, we'll make sure he gets a link and he can hear the replay. Jeff, you are called to man camp, just for the record. Yep, yep, man. I had some good times. Really good conversations at night.

Uh really good uh listening to these guys' story and let them come to life. And some and and and some are Um Getting to hear God's voice for the first time. Yeah. Getting to be touched by God for the first time. Um, I really think that that's big because a lot of folks go through life.

And they and they'll they'll recognize the touch when the touch is They're being touched. No, that makes sense. Man, and I had some really powerful experiences of. With um With the three three guys that got baptized together. From Maine.

to see those guys In a different light, too, was so good from the first of the week to the last of the week. was totally different. Yeah. Totally different for those guys. Yep.

And for our listeners out there, we had three guys who drove like 18, 20 hours from the state of Maine just to attend man camp in Georgia. We have four guys drive like 12, 13, 14 hours from the state of Delaware. And then, Doug, I found out Daniel, who drove in from Louisiana. At the age of 81, 81 years old, still hungry for God, wanting more of God. And he told me, I talked to him post-camp, it took him 16 hours to drive home, which he did.

Like, I'm like, you spent the night somewhere, right? He goes, no, I probably should have, but he drove this straight 16 hours. I'm like, wow, at age 81, what a trooper. All right, last question for you, and we'll get to your questions for me.

So, one. What's something God said to you or God revealed to you? in the camp setting personally, something for you. That's that's big. Um because I was never I didn't ever take care of the small things and the Lord revealed to me that I needed balance.

Um balance in my life and balance in my in my uh marriage. I just needed to to get to get it kind of even filtered out, uh You know, I I I really I really enjoy enjoys serving people. Uh I would count Enjoy it. That's what I want to do. I want to serve the rest of my life.

I want to serve. But the Lord revealed it to me that you've got to be balanced and. not overlook things and and not be in a hurry and uh those kind of things, you know.

Well, and yeah, and especially people in ministry, you know, I know your wife, you and your wife do a lot, you know, like you just said, a lot of that. And especially pastors, but I challenge pastors all the time, even for myself, Doug, what I'm writing down, making some notes is one, just learning to say no, that you don't have to say yes to everything because we do need downtime. You got to have your downtime. Yeah, that's Sabbath, right? Like a lot of people get a, you know, the people come to church on Sunday, that is their Sabbath, but not for the pastor who's preaching or the evangelist like me who's traveling around.

And of course, one of the main things we try to, the atmosphere we set at Man Camp is, and I'll just tell people, you know, hey, put your, put the electronics away. Put the phones away so you can hear the voice of God, so you can focus your time and attention while you're here, these few days that you're here. And just draw closer to God.

Well, amazing. The word balance.

Well, that is awesome. And I just want to say to listeners out there: if you want more information, if you're encouraged by Doug's testimony today, you want some more information, just go to koloff.net, koloff.net, and you can link to the camp, learn more about the camp. Hey, if you're in the military, if you're in law enforcement, first responder, pastor, man, we're going to do everything we can to help you get there. And just don't let money. one of the reasons you you won't come good stuff yeah we're gonna get you're listening to the truth network and truth network.com Nikita Koloff here, and I am excited.

All right, so let's segue to. I have no clue what you're going to ask me, Doug, but I want to give you the opportunity to ask me a question or two. What do you got for me? Fire a question, I can tell you, man. My dad always took me, always, always took me to the masses.

I mean, where I guess a I kn it was it just a Russian thing? I mean, I don't know where did that come from or just something they come up with or?

So, so let me say this. Right now, you know, my dad's been dead for 35 years, and I got to, I got someone that kind of shared things with me that kind of brought that to a little bit of light. But if he, man, he would have loved to have met you. I mean, and Lex, I mean, it would have been, you know, for him, it would have been good because we've been around them all races, the Briscoes. I mean, you named it.

Would have been a highlight for him, right? It would have been a highlight for him. And, hey, but I want to ask you a question, but before I do, did Dusty and I win in Greensboro that night? Do you remember? Did we win or lose?

Man. It was the first time y'all had come out in Greensboro. Yeah. And I'm trying to remember if you did or you didn't. We probably did.

Remember sitting there in that chair. And all of a sudden you hear the chains rattling, whatever. Ah, it was good.

Well, I'll just say for the record, the superpowers didn't lose too many matches. Let me just say that. But the whole Russian character, that that all stemmed from Sergeant Slaughter. And Don Cernodo. They were good friends and laid out a whole plan, a whole plan where they'd find a big guy to be Ivan Koloff's nephew.

And, you know, we'll find him somewhere. And then, you know, create a whole angle eventually. Because at the time, Don was part, he was an American turncoat because he was partnering with the Russian bear Ivan Koloff. And they were the world tag champions. And so.

And so they actually approached Road Warrior Animal and said, You know, hey, big guys wouldn't mind shaving their head and becoming a Russian. Animal goes, I think I know the guy right now.

So Animal calls me up to kind of condense the story. He calls me up. I call Jim Crockett, the promoter down in Charlotte, and make sure, you know, he knew I had, you know, no experience but was willing to come in and try. And he gave me a day, a date, and an address. And I had never been to Charlotte in my life.

And so I showed up, Doug, the day he said to be there. Nikita Koloff is born in the hallways of Charlotte in June of 1984, and I've never looked back.

So that's how that happened. Yeah. We was at a T V taping over at the at the old Bojangle still, right in behind there or whatever. Yeah, Independence Yeah, Independence Boulevard. Huh?

Independence Boulevard. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. My dad was pulling for one, and another lady was pulling for Ric Flair, and he was pulling for Wahoo McDaniels, and actually, she started popping him with a pocketbook, and everybody thought, man, what in the world? But any other way, the other question I would like to ask: is there anything in your life? That you would change in anything that you can recommend to me.

Wow. Okay. So, two-part question. And let me just comment and say on her smacking him with her pocketbook, with her, or for those around the world who don't know what a pocketbook is, that's translated a purse. In the South, it's a pocketbook.

In other places, it's a woman's purse that she was smacking Doug's dad with, you know. And so, so, is there anything I would change? And so, what is it?

So, anything I would change, and what's part two? Oh, advice for you. Advice for you. For a tidbit to go forward, oh, oh, okay, okay. Because I thought for me, if there's a, because I wouldn't, for the record, I wouldn't change anything.

Certainly, we could all look back at our life and see where, wow, if I'd done this different or done that different, but you know what? Even all the mistakes I've made and even a lot of the things I did right, you know, it's all made me who I am today. And so, right, on that note, you know, there's there really isn't anything I would change because it's made me who I am. As far as advice for you and all our listeners out there, Is Vince Lombardi was known for a coach who would teach the basics. They'd come into, now these are professionals, right?

And they would come into camp. He'd say, Men, this is a football. I mean, if I'm in camp, Doug, I'm looking and go, well, Doug, coach, I know that, hello, been playing this game for however many years, right? He said, man, we're going to block. You know, we're going to tackle and we're going to run this football and black, right?

So, I mean, just basic stuff, right? And so, as a Christ follower. As a believer, I think the importance for all of us as believers, and if you're out there listening and you're not, but you hopefully, I pray, one day become a Christ follower and a disciple of Jesus, is the basics. And what are the basics? Consistently, that's a key word.

Doug said a consistent word, balance, but another consistent word, another word is consistent, consistently each and every day, building your relationship. How do you build a relationship? Whether it's a marriage, a relationship with a son or daughter, or just anyone, an employee at work, your boss is spending time with those individuals, right?

Well, you got to spend time with Jesus every day. And I want to challenge and encourage all of us to read the word every day. I don't care if it's one scripture. Or one passage, or one chapter. And if you say, I hate reading, okay, well, they have this thing called a Bible app.

And so listen to the Bible every day.

So that's a foundational piece, right? Reading the word every day, growing in your own personal walk by getting to know the word and, in turn, getting to know God. Secondly, is prayer, developing that prayer life consistently every day. And it's not a monologue, it's a dialogue. It's a dialogue.

And so, you know, you've got to. You've got to be able to develop that every day, just a conversation every day with the Lord.

So, prayer. Worship is another component. And again, going back to Doug's word balance, Doug is balancing my reading. With my prayer life and time in worship, just worshiping. And there's a lot of different ways we can worship God, but one of the ways I like is putting music on and just sitting in the presence of God and just listening to music and enjoying different worship songs.

And then, excuse me, the last. The last component for me that's going to help me is relationships. And you got a lot of great relationships there at Village Chapel, which, by the way, Village Chapel is in Kannapolis, North Carolina. And Pastor Ken Salisbury, Pastor Jeff James, incredible staff there. The church is on fire, growing.

I know, have you guys gone to two services yet or no? Still at one? No, not yet. I think that it's been talked around. And as soon as the numbers settle down or whatever, I would say that we definitely go that way.

Yep. So, yeah, that's good stuff. We have baptized a lot of folks out there. And just throw a little tidbit in. If you come in the door and you see handprints all over the wall, that's where people are getting baptized.

Yep, that's it. That's amazing. That's what's representing their feet print is to get baby dedications. That's what that's for us. Follow in the footsteps of Jesus.

John the Baptist baptized Jesus. Once you surrender your heart, give your life to Jesus. In fact, we set a record at our last man camp. We baptized 11 guys. And the three that Doug is referring to, like I said, drove down from the state of Maine and just amazing testimonies.

So the last thing, just real quick, is relationships, Doug. We've got to build relationships. You know, I call it a battle buddy. Every one of us needs a battle buddy. Every one of us needs somebody that we're accountable to.

And then in addition to that, join a small group. A lot of churches have different names for it. Life group, small group. Join a small group. Of course, consistently attend church on a week-to-week basis so that you can build community with a larger group.

And so, Doug, those are the four key basics for me that I would recommend to you and anyone else listening.

So. And my and my thing is to I have three guys that men that serve on staff And man, this it's powerful. It it it to me Man, I can tell you, that's good stuff.

Well, I appreciate, Doug, I appreciate you. You're coming to camp and your testimony, and I just appreciate Village Chapel and you guys just faithful support. And I look forward to coming back. We're working on getting on the calendar. I think another man's breakfast and then hanging over and preaching that Sunday.

And so, again, for those of you listening, if you want more information on man camp, go to coaloff.net and click the link and you'll learn more. Doug, you got to get in the game, man. You got to. You got to get in it. Get off the sidelines, right?

You can't sit on the sidelines. You got to get in. That's right. And love to you and that bride of Jan of yours, forty one years. That's amazing and appreciate you being on the show today.

Okay, my friends. Love you, man. All right, love you too, Doug. And for all of you out there in listening, land, my challenge to you is to go out today and just have a God-filled and live just a God-blessed day. A God-blessed day.
