Answers, where you get a personal phone call from the Russian nightmare Nakita Koloff. And today with me on the phone, Mark Taylor, welcome to QA with Koloff. Thank you, Nikita. Appreciate the invite.
Well, great to have you here, all the way from the great peach state of Georgia, right? That's right. Go, dogs. Go Dogs. Oh, Bulldog fan, huh?
Come on. And you're down there. And now, are you, you call Carrollton, Georgia, home, or where do you live? Yeah, West Georgia. We're about thirty minutes from the Alabama line, East Alabama, just to the west of the Atlanta Metro.
About halfway between Atlanta and the Alabama line.
Okay, all right. And of course, we met a while back. I was doing a man-up conference there in Carrollton, Georgia. And we had the privilege of I had the privilege of meeting you. Of course, we connected, got to know each other, and got to learn a little bit more about you.
You've been involved in ministry for as long as I've been walking and journeying with the Lord since 1993, right? That's right. Yes, sir. Long time. And and I know you've been a part of church planting over the years.
You've been on staff. You've pastored. And and uh but you're not you're not a native of Georgia, are you? Louisiana, Crazy Cajun family, to all my people down there. Lose yeah.
That's go tigers. That's go tigers. That's different. Just so do your tiger, does your tiger family appreciate when you say go dogs? You know what?
That's the first time I think I've said that in 17 years I've lived here. My son's sitting here with me and gave me a look. I know what that look is.
Well, it's I think he just was a traitor at that moment.
Well, it's going to go worldwide now, just so he knows. It's going to go worldwide.
Somebody in my family listening in is probably speaking Cajun French right now. They've just disowned you. They've just disowned you. But you've been all over the world. I know you told me, and I want people to make sure to go over to the Man Up Show, listen to my full interview with Mark over on the Man Up Show.
Nine years old in Germany is when you surrendered your heart to the Lord. That's amazing. Yes, sir. Yeah, that was a glorious moment. And so wh b where besides Germany have you traveled?
Where have you been?
Well, we've lived my dad was in the military, so about every three years we've moved. Louisiana, first years eight years of my life, Germany, Arkansas, North Dakota, Kentucky. and now Georgia as far as living there and then I've been to other countries visiting or on mission. Uh out of curiosity, what part of North Dakota? Yeah, Minot, North Dakota.
Oh, boy. Why not? Mineot? Reason's a reason.
So, uh. I think Nikita, I think the coldest it ever got one day, it was like 75 below, but that was very, pretty rare with windfield. I think about 40, 50 below was probably average. The norm. Yep.
The norm. I know only too well, you know, of course, I was in a Fargo. Moorhead area for college. And boy, that wind come whipping down the plain there. And oh my gosh, it was so cold walking around campus.
And yeah, that's crazy.
So so you're also there down there in and so you mentioned your son sitting next to you.
So so tell us about the family, just real quick. Yeah, proud daddy of uh 16-year-old Mason and Inslee, who's 12. Uh, both great kids, both walking with the Lord in their own uh faith journeys and uh walk in in relationship with God.
So Um in uh ones in To be in high school, the other one is be finishing up a couple years, and who knows what they'll go on to do. I'm sure it'll be great. Yeah, that's right. What the what the path has, what what the Lord has planned, what path He has that f for them. And now your founder and and uh lead missionary for Seeking the City.
Take a minute and talk about Seeking the City. What is it? We're a mission organization, Christian ministry organization in West Georgia. That's our mission field, three particular counties. And we have a mission field here.
They're people who need to know Jesus. And so our mission primarily is the beginning process of. making disciples of Jesus and that's introducing them to who Jesus is and then introducing them to the good news of of of Jesus and his salvation and the new life that they can have with Christ. And So we introduce and try to identify people in places where the gospel and where churches that are here are needed most in our community to do good and to love and care for and Just be Christ to them. And so we do that in bold, creative, and intentional ways through city outreach, through community transformation initiatives, and then also.
through church multiplication, which can include Uh More churches, just raising up more churches. Yeah, church planting, right? Like starting other churches and stuff. Good for you, man. I like what you say.
You know, you want to make Jesus. Jesus known where he's not known in West Georgia, right? Yeah, and that's built off of the Apostle Paul in Romans 15, 20. That's always been my verse that's kind of motivated me, and that was and when I believed that God was Calling me to raise up this organization as the founder, like you said, lead missionary. And I want to set the example of being on mission and just help our churches be on mission again.
Kind of, you know, not necessarily avoid it or walk away from it, but not just to be focused on the daily ministry maintenance of keeping something going. as a church or ministry, but but be outwardly focused to the community. To those that don't know Jesus yet, and that is a gospel missionary movement. That's what we're inspiring, that's what we're remobilizing. That's amazing.
How do people find out more about Seeking the City? Simple on our website, seekingthecity.org. We've got the Seeking the City podcast, Apple, Spotify, and YouTube channel. And then of course social media platforms under the same name of Seattle City. That's pretty you're doing a great work there in Western Georgia.
And of course, we we met at a Man Up Conference. You heard about Man Camp. Take just a minute and because you attended one and let our listeners know what you know, if there's guys out there, gals out there, wives, moms, you know, what why would let me ask you this, why would someone want to consider coming to man camp? Maybe just address it that way. Yes, if you're a man that you're you may be sensing that There may be more that if you have a relationship with God, you may be sensing God's called you to be more as a man, as a husband, as a father, as an employee, as a leader, maybe even a business owner, whatever role you have in life.
We wear many hats. But the God had a intention and purpose and a good pleasure to to create us as men on purpose for something specific. And I think it's Come and discover what that is. That could be your mental, physical, spiritual. Um being and so the wholeness of who you are that you would feel confident to have the tools and the ability to be able to walk in the the just as a maximized manhood.
Um Am I experiencing all there is? I found out that I was falling far short of that. And God had so much more. That's pretty powerful. I'm just writing down something here as you're speaking.
There's always more, I wrote down. uh and do something that's bigger than you. Would that be fair to say? Definitely. And that's what you're doing with.
Yeah, you know, we make a lot of choices in life. And, you know, I remember I had a boss one time said, Do you never want to. To be said of you that wow, he had such potential. But then you don't want to live with regrets as well. I don't think any of us do, but sometimes you make.
Not always the right choices in life, or you think you're making the best choices as a dad, a husband, all these things, but You know, we don't always get it right, but here's what's beautiful. is that you can get it right. You can learn how to keep it right. and to uh know what's not right. and do what's right.
And I think that you'll come and discover that. That's pretty powerful. And that is the part of the vision for campus to put guys in a setting Where they can do some self-reflection and kind of see if there's areas of their life that maybe need some tweaking, maybe need a slight improvement here or there. And as you embrace and engage what we do throughout the time that we're together, so many stories. Go on mancamp.info.
That's mancamp.info. We do one of the spring. April, one of the fall, October.
So we have space room available for this coming October, and uh would love for you to consider coming and And uh you know if you're if you were In the military in any way, you heard Mark talk about traveling. Family in the military, if you were in the military, first responder, law enforcement. If you're a pastor. We have a special blessing for you. We have scholarship funds to help make it possible.

Well, Mark, it is QA with Koloff, and I do want to give you the opportunity. And I know I mentioned before we came on air, if your son is interested in Asking a question will certainly give him that opportunity as well. But why don't you start and why don't you fire away your first question for me? Oh, that's a good question. I've been thinking about this.
You know, and if anybody out there listening is not. Either read or listen to an audio version of Nikita's book about his life, and that goes into a lot of history. I've never heard before in this way of wrestling, the wrestling profession. that industry and that development over the years. Phenomenal.
Is there one MADS that you um maybe had that you thought Why did I even put myself in this position? Then. See, Vader, that last match probably, I think, for me, just like, what were you thinking, Nikita, to even have the courage. To get into the ring with that man.
Well, I want to tell you what, Van Vader, or big Van Vader, as he was called, or just Vader. Uh was uh was a big dude, I mean, he was legit about legit 450 pounds. He was a big, big man. And of course, you know, you go into a match, you know, ho hoping, trusting, you know, that the guy that you're working with is um you know, gonna gonna you might say, take care of you, you know, not try to intentionally injure you or harm you in any way. A a spoiler alert for those who still think All of wrestling is real.
Actually, the body slams are very real. Like, if I slam you on a concrete floor, I assure you you will feel the concrete floor. If I run you into a ring post or into a cage, a steel cage, or hit you with my chain, I assure you you will feel it. But that said, it is entertainment. And he had a history mark of being, I guess, the word I would use is reckless.
At times, you know, you might say didn't know his own strength, maybe. Um, and so you know, my that final match against him, where I got uh two injuries, uh, a hernia picking up that 450 pounds, um, and and then we're fighting out on the floor, and he injured my neck. Um, and he would later, to his credit, let me say this. to his credit years later. I was actually in Miami at WrestleMania doing uh an autograph signing, and he sought me out and came to me, and asked for forgiveness.
and and wanted me to make sure I knew he didn't intentionally try to hurt me or injure me. You know, things happen in the ring. It's not an exact science. You got big guys bouncing off of ropes and jumping off the top of ropes, you know, and everything.
So, you know, those guys are bound to get hurt.
So it was just kind of the nature of the game. And uh, and I never held it against him, it just is what happened, um, yeah, and so. Yeah, I can't say I regret, you know, having got get you know, having got in the ring with him, but uh but certainly there were certain guys who if they had a reputation as being a bit reckless or suspect in their character. Let's just say I tried to be more cautious, Mark. That's a great question.
You're an all in guy. From what I know about you and come to realize about you in our friendship is that you're an all in guy. Probably always have been in many ways. But look, when you when you got in the ring, was it were you all in, brother? I mean, was there part of you that hesitated?
Was there any fear at all? No, I mean, again, I'm young, I'm big, I'm 10 foot tall and bulletproof, right? And I will say this. There was one, I'll tell you this story, this little side story. There was one time when Cowboy Bill Watts.
Yeah. came in uh came into the to the uh Of course he had, you know, Again, Louisiana, right? He had, I think he called it at one point the Mid-South. I think he turned it, changed it to Universal. Championship wrestling, I think, uh, U UFC or UCW or something.
Anyway, and Watts came in, was running the territory, and and I got my paycheck one time and there was a thousand dollar fine on there. And I'm like, wa wait, what?
So I sought out Cowboy Bill and I go, Yo, like what what's this all about?
Well, we were told, you know, you guys in that match up in Norfolk, Virginia, didn't put all, you know, all your effort into the match. And I said Who said that? He goes to the the agent. I go, Who was the agent?
So he told me who the agent was. I go, Bill? I go, I want you to get everyone that was in that. It was a six-man tag match. Rick Roode was one of the, I think it might have been Steve Austin, Stone Cold before he became Stone Cold.
Stunning Steve. But anyway, it was a six-man. I said, I want every one of those guys in a room, Bill. And I want that agent in the room, and I want to hear out of that agent's mouth that Nikita Koloff didn't put. put his full effort in the match that night.
And to Bill's credit, you know what? He made it happen. He got all six of us together. He brought the agent in. And he said, You said These guys didn't put all their effort in and and To that guy's credit, I won't name his name, but But if I said it, a lot of people would know it.
To that guy's credit, he said, well. I didn't actually see the match.
Someone told me and I'm like, uh-huh. Yeah, there you go. And to Bill Watts' credit, He rescinded the file, so we we each got our $1,000 back. Wow. We didn't get fined.
And so, but yeah, man, somebody accusing me of not putting all my effort in, not being all in. I'm like, uh-uh, that ain't happening. My goal mark every night I walked into the ring, I didn't care who I was working against, who I was wrestling. I intended to give people their money's worth every single night. They paid a bought a ticket, paid to see me wrestle, and they were going to get their money's worth.
So, anyway, all right, moving on. Moving on. What you got for me? True. I I you know, I've always wondered Is there any skill, anything that you gained from that experience in that career that now has prepared you best?
You look back on it and you're like, I'm so grateful that I... Either worn that, develop that skill something that's helped you since wrestling. That is what you're doing now? Yeah, that's a great question. I think you're the first to ask.
As I recall, I'm thinking on it right now, and all the QA. shows I've done. Yes, I can immediately say yes. And and to explain, Whether it's talking on a microphone, you know, or or just feeling comfortable, you might say, in front of a crowd. Um Certainly, the wrestling was instrumental as an evangelist.
I mean, because I've ministered to an audience of one, the largest crowd to date. In fact, Lex Luger was with me for this crusade. It was an outdoor crusade. Uh i in Jamaica. uh and in attendance there are over seventy three thousand people.
in attendance at that outdoor crusade. And so to be able to stand in front of seventy three thousand and talk on a microphone and share your story Um certainly wrestling It was helpful. uh and instrumental in in in uh honing the skills that I'm able to use now. Yeah. Yeah.
Did did you have a favorite place that you that you were able to wrestle? I know you've been in a lot of countries in ministry and things since, but What was your favorite place when you I know you had an interesting story when you were, you know, I think in the Middle East and Kuwait. I think there was a diplomat involved, and I don't want to give that story away. Get his book. It's an interesting journey for sure.
There was a Russian ambassador involved. Yeah, there's a little story about that. We'll leave folks hanging. Go get the book. Download the book or go buy the copy off my website.
You want to hear that story for sure. That was pretty interesting. The Russian favorite place, though. Japan. Japan.
Everybody says that. Yep. Japan. It was, I mean. They they treated you, I mean, like It was just unbelievable.
You know, they just. They did everything with excellence. I mean, from. From having these young, young guys trying to break into the business that if you needed something, they're there for you. grab you a bottle of water or carry your bag or or whatever and and and then just, you know, they they paid well.
I'll just say it that way. They paid Japan, you know, they paid well. They really wanted to show their appreciation for you coming all that way, uh, you know, to work for them. And so You know, they really took care of you in many ways, you know, whether it be financially or just your accommodations, you know, just everything, just everything. And And man, they're so If nobody's ever been to Japan, I think probably it's been a long time since I've been there, but some of the most honoring people, I mean, you know, when you see like, you know, the movies or see like they're bowing and They just honor you in every.
Yeah. Yeah, my roommate from the only roommate I ever had in college was from Japan.
Okay. It was what a treat. Yeah, that was a special special. Special friendship. Yep, just humble and kind.
And so, anyway, yep.
Well we got time for at least one more, if you got one more for me.
Well, you had met Mason, my 16-year-old, and this is really for him. If you could go back to your 16-year-old son. What would you say to yourself? But what advice would you give yourself sixteen years old? Ooh.
Different time back then, different challenges. It was, it was a whole different time. And, you know, and that's it's interesting, right? Because, you know, you hear that expression: well, if I only knew then what I know now. Right?
So, man, that's uh, we could probably do an entire man-up show just on that one question right there, Mark. But, um, You you know, um You know, part of my hope is that, you know, like, uh, you know. I don't live any life, I don't live life with, you know, to come to the end of my life with it's still holding on to regrets. Um You know, that may have hindered some of my journey. You know, in one sense, are there some things I might have done differently that I would have changed?
In one sense, yeah, I could probably pinpoint a few things specifically that I'm like, yeah, I would love to do that different, that different, that different. But then again, the flip side of that is. I who I'm Who I am now because of.
Some of the mistakes I made because of some of the things I did. and has helped to shape me and mold me along with the God's help. into who I am now. Um It was my senior in high school. I will say this.
It wasn't until my senior in high school that I figured out you actually needed uh good grades to get into college. I thought I could get in on my athletic ability, right? Like, for real. Like, I'm like, I'm a stud star athlete. I can get into any college.
Well, actually, you have to have some good grades. And I'm like, oh, no. Yeah, they want you to show up for class. They do. They do appreciate when you show up and then actually turn homework in.
And. And so, and so I'm like, oh man.
So, I did crack down my senior year of high school and begin to apply myself. And then. More so my junior and senior year of college, but But yeah, I probably would have would have taken taken uh my education a little more serious in those early days, you know, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, um, fifteen, fourteen. and and not just relied so much on my um On my athletic ability. And the irony is: as I moved into my Uh I ha I became and still am an an avid book reader, you know, the old expression, readers are leaders.
And so I try to read at least one book a month. And for your son, that's by you there. You know, even if you don't enjoy reading, I mean, just apply it yourself and become a reader. I've heard that from some great leaders, yeah, very successful people in life in every way. Uh they spend at least 15 minutes a day reading Something that either helps build them up or help build someone else up.
Something. And I'll just say to your son, and convey this to him, or if he can hear me, you know, read biographies, man. Read people's life stories. Go read about Winston Churchill. Go read about Teddy Roosevelt, Abraham Lincoln.
I mean, go read about world changers uh you know leaders that that had an impact on the world that could you can learn something from everybody's story and that that you can you know help make you a better person so uh Does he have a question for me, Mark, or is he just listening in today? Yeah, he's listening in. Mason's an int yeah, he's a listener and introspective guy. All right. But any dating advice for a 16-year-old?
What what what what I know you have three daughters. What dating advice? Four girls. Four girls, that's right. Four.
What was the what was there consistent dating advice you gave them? Yeah, I didn't let him date. That was my advice. You will not date. Uh Well you sorry Mason Well, here, I'll just say this.
Mason's 16 years old. He's got a lot of life ahead of him. There's no hurry and no rush when it comes to that. You don't need to test drive the car. Fall in love with Jesus, and I assure you, he will bring the right woman into your life at the right time that you don't need to go out and play the field and test the market.
You always say, Nikita, the right decision at the right time will produce the right results. The right results. Trust the process. Will produce the right results. And the last caveat to that is when you feel that right woman has come, God has brought her into your life.
Make sure she loves Jesus more than she loves you. Make sure she loves Jesus. Mason, more than she loves you. And I assure you, if she's in love with Jesus, she'll love you like you've never been loved before because she's loving you with the love of Jesus, not with some surface-level. Love, but a love that's much more compassionate and deeper than you could ever imagine.
So there you go. Appreciate that, Nikita. All right. All right, well.
Well, all right.
