The Russian Nightmare. The Kita Cool. Welcome to another episode, QA with Cole Off, The Devil's Nightmare. Welcome back to another episode QA with Kolov, Questions and Answers, where you get to ask me questions, where you get a personal phone call. From the Russian nightmare.
However, today, An extra blessing to have Scott Kidd in studio with me. Scott, welcome to QA with Koloff. Thank you for having me. Great to have you here. And it's always fun to have people in studio because, you know, it's just a different interaction for me, anyway, you know, as opposed to making a phone call.
But you're over in Asheboro, North Carolina. And I know you're pastoring over there at Union Grove Christian Church and been there for quite a long time. 13 years. 13 years. And yep.
Yeah, wonderful church, wonderful church family. Where were you prior to that? Before that, Center Cross Baptist Church in Randolph County, and before that, it was Willamore and Greensboro.
So all in North Carolina, basically.
Okay. And I know you're a Liberty grad, too. Yeah, yep, that's right. Liberty University. Yep.
Up there in Falwell country, right? That's right. That's right. Four years a couple of years, three years, two years? How long were you at Liberty?
I just went there after I got my undergrad at UNCG and teaching. I taught school for a while for felt the call to ministry and I did some youth pastoring and some teaching in the public school setting. And then when the Lord called me to full-time ministry in 2000, a few years into that, I was led to go back to school and get my master's. Yeah, what kind of teaching? I taught elementary school, but I finished in middle school.
In middle school, I loved teaching science in middle school. Science in middle school.
So you may or may not know, but I graduated with a teaching degree from college. Oh, wow.
Okay. I did not know that. That's awesome.
Okay. And here's a little side note on that. Like, you're a senior, you had to do like six weeks elementary and six weeks. You know, junior high, right? And I don't know which one was first, but whichever one was first, I'm like, I definitely won't be doing that.
I forget what they called that. The the the hand, you know, where we the six weeks where you got to do the Yeah, yeah. On site, whatever it's called. I forget. Right, right.
But so, whichever one that was, when I went to the other one and did it there, I was like. All right, I won't be doing junior high either or whatever, right? I'm like, maybe high school, probably college, you know, kind of thing.
So, anyway, but yeah, I had a. I teach a degree, but Never formally taught, but I've been feel like I've been teaching my whole entire life.
So, the Lord called you into full-time ministry, and I know you got a lovely family. Just take a minute, tell us about your lovely family. Married to the same woman for 31 years. Her name is Melita, she's my sweetheart. And we have three wonderful children.
They're all grown: Faith, Isaac, and Elijah.
Okay. And so, just a blessing. And I learned that like you and her met or go all the way back to, speaking of elementary, elementary school. Elementary school, middle school. Yep.
We went to the same school, Coleridge. Wow. That's pretty cool. You guys have a lot of history together there. And you're also part of, in addition to pastoring there in Asheboro, you're also part of, just look at your t-shirt there, Ignite.
Randolph. Take a minute or two and tell us about Iknite Randolph. What is it? What. Who's involved in it?
Okay, Ignite Randolph is a ministry in Randolph County, and our goal is to bring the church together in order to reach the lost. There's a lot of unchurched and lost folks all around us, and we're taking the great commission of our Savior Jesus Christ seriously. Matthew 28:19 tells us to go and make disciples.
So we want to do things to reach out. We usually do an event every year where we hope. We'll bring a lot of unchurched people and they'll hear the gospel, get saved. Then we plug them into area churches in order to be discipled. Because we're responsible to then bring them in, love on them, and bring them up in the Lord.
And who's a part of that with you?
Well, Brian Pierce. Oh, yes. I've worked with several different guys over the years. Brian Pierce has been from the very beginning. Brian actually.
It wouldn't be here without Brian. Chuck Powers also served until his passing not long ago. He went home to be with the Lord. And amen, he beat us home, didn't he? He did.
He did. And Chuck, again, it wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Chuck. He's been with us since the beginning. Rue Rose is on our team. He's been on the board since the beginning.
New the last couple of years. Jason Baker, he's at Ramsar Westland. Dr. Brad Thomas from Northridge. Brad Forrest at Lakeside Park Church of God.
And I'm still hanging on to Jeff Joyce as well. He's the mission strategist at Randolph Baptist Association. And so we have a good mix of diversity. Yeah, it's a picture of the church actually coming together. Yeah, how should it?
That's how it should be. That's right. That's right. How it should be. Yeah, I know you had recently invited me to a luncheon and got to meet a number of different pastors and certainly was blessed to see.
That such a variety from different churches, not just one particular organization, but other pastors from a variety of organizations, whether it's Church of God or the Baptist churches, but we're willing to work together. And I travel a lot, as you know, Scott, and it just frustrates me to go in some of these communities and to hear some of the horror stories from some of the pastors and trying to, you know. I'm doing a what it calls a man-up conference or a man-up breakfast or dinner or something. And like, yeah, we invited seven churches, and you know, none of their guys showed up or whatever. You know, it's just frustrating, you know, and it just is.
But anyway, that aside, I'm excited about Randolph County there in North Carolina, excited about Ignite. I'm going to be a part of in September, a part of a wrestling outreach that you guys are sponsoring, a free event in Asheboro High School, right? September September 27th, 5 to 7 o'clock. Doors open at 4. It's a completely free event.
Live wrestling. Live wrestling. It's going to be as good as you've ever seen it. And I assure you, listen, I've been a part of some of these types of outreaches in the past. And I have a tagline.
I know part of your vision, but my tagline is: come on out for the. For the wrestling, or as we say here in the wrestling. The wrestling. Come on out for the wrestling.
So we give them what they want, so to speak, which is the wrestling, but they leave with what they need, which is the gospel message. And over the years, I've seen many people, we've turned that ring into an altar. I've seen many people come to Christ. And I'm excited, too, about the discipleship part of it. I know you were sharing with me before.
That people come to Christ, you find out where they live, and your goal would be to plug them into a local church, maybe near where they live, and get them engaged, right? That's right, that's right. It's our responsibility as the church to bring people in, to love on them, and to bring them up in the ways of the Lord, teach them the ways of Jesus. And that's what we're called to do. And we can't just do that just at a one-night event.
And so that's why the church needs to come together and partner with us, the churches, the local churches, so we can plug them into the local churches.
Well, I think it's a great vision. And I know you did the wrestling outreach last year, and it was a huge success, right? Oh, yeah, yeah. It fell together beautifully. It was impressive, actually, how things come together.
Rob Vaughan and Bob Keller worked together to put this on. And Lodi, of course, pulled a team together. And like I said, the entertainment value. Was off the chart. Yeah, these guys, you know, it's not like Lodi's probably, you know, like I'll be there with you this year, but you know, Lodi was with World Championship Wrestling WCW back in the late 90s, part of Ravens Flock.
And he goes into the schools and does some incredible assemblies in the schools to the talks to the kiddos. And then Rob Vaughan, he has flown me out to Texas where he's headquartered to be some. He's done these for over 20 years. He's done these types of. I believe Rob is going to come in a little earlier this year so he can go with us into the school system because he has a passion for what we are doing.
Yes. And I love his heart. He's a great guy. Yep. Him and his wife are just wonderful, wonderful people, you know, just good people.
And so I'm just, you know, the discipleship part of it, I think, is part of a great vision.
So if somebody wants to make a trip over to Asheboro High School September 27th and attend. This free event, where can they either get more information or where do they go? Go to our Ignite Randolph Facebook page. That will be a good place to get the information. Follow us so that you'll get the updates as it comes along.
We already have a flyer on there that will tell who's coming, what times, and where it's at, the address and so forth. And please share. Please share that. Yeah, sure. Spread the word.
And always remember this: cards are subject to change. On every poster I used to see, you know, it was, and I'm like, why do we do that? Like, well, you never know something might happen. And a guy, for whatever reason, just can't make it or show up. And we don't want fans to be mad, go, you advertised so-and-so would be there.
We did, but then we put the disclaimer, come right subject to change, right? But I'm looking forward. I'm looking forward to being on the show. We are looking forward to having you this year. Last year we had Magnum TA come and was a special guest, a special speaker, and of course, Lodi.
And Lodi's coming back this year. And you're going to be there. We're just going to have a great, great time. Yeah, Magnum TA, or as I used to call them, Mega TA. We actually recently teamed up.
At Lodi's gym in Charlotte, North Carolina. He's got a personal box gym there that he does one-on-one training. Been there? But he does these, God put it on his heart to do these what he calls weight room revivals. And so Magnum and I, a few months back, got the opportunity to come in one night and he packs it out.
He put 40, 50 guys in there. God bless him. Using what you have, right? Yeah. Yeah, what's at your disposal?
Use whatever's at your disposal. That's right. And at the end of the day, be focused on building God's kingdom.
So whether it's pastoring a church like Scott Kidd is doing or part of Ignite Randolph, you know, an organization, outreach, putting on a wrestling event or Lodi with his gym, just, you know, no matter who you are, what you're doing, you can make a difference and impact for God's kingdom. That's right. You're listening to The Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Nikita Cole off here, and I am excited. Did you hear the huge announcement, the big announcement?
Well, maybe it's a minor announcement. Anyway, Facebook. Go look up my new fan page, Nikita Cola Fans. And like it. and follow today.

Well, it is QA with Koloff, and you've got a whole notebook of mine for me. If we have enough time to go through all this, pick out a few of your best ones, and I'll try not to be too long-winded on my answers here. All right, so when I was a kid. and you came on T V and you were on the scene. I I I tried to think back, I probably was around 11 years old.
So, you were famous to me, right? You're on TV, you're larger than life, along with some of those other guys that you were with.
So, If you'd have came in our lunchroom, of course, I would have been starstruck. Back then, I was interested in when you stepped into wrestling because you came. You came And hit the big time right off the bat. Yeah. So.
Who were you starstruck by? Who were you looking at and say, wow, I can't believe he's here? Or that you got to rub shoulders with and then ended up be. Being friends with, kind of like you and myself. Yeah, that's a great question.
Here's how I'm gonna answer that or address that, Scott. It so it's gonna be kind of backwards. And what I mean by that is When I think back now you asked me that question, And I look back at my career, and it was for those who. Who don't know the if you ever want the full story? You can get it on an audible, auto, audible book, Nikita, A Tale of the Ring of Redemption.
Actually, came in the very studio I'm sitting in today, and in my own voice, did my life story. Um, I tell people you can't get that one autographed, but you can get the hard copy. Uh, go to my website, and you can get his autograph, though, September the 27th at Ignite Randolph in Ashboro. Boom! Good plug, Scott.
Good plug, right there. That's right. And I'll have some books with me there in Randolph at the Ignite event. But that said. I didn't grow up per se a wrestling fan.
I knew a handful of the names. Um and so I would not I honestly, full transparency wasn't all that Awestruck in the moment, even in the meteoric rise with my career, and that's just part of the. Story that people don't know would have to dive deeper into that to figure out.
Well, how come it was such an overnight success, so to speak? Literally, overnight success. Um It's more now, Scott, that I look back and go, Oh my gosh, I got to travel the w Roads and travel the world with dusty roads for two and a half years. Him and I ride in his little you know, convertible two two seater red Mercedes bins up and down the highways, you know. Um, gosh, I got to get in the ring with the nature boy Ric Flair, you know, sixteen time world heavyweight champion or Ricky the Dragon steamboat.
Um, you know, I I didn't get in the ring with with uh Hulk Hogan, but I was, you know, in in the dressing room with Hulk Hogan. And so I I I'm more uh reflective in that regard and looking back and thinking, I can't believe I got the opportunity or the privilege of being a part of one, the wrestling business, two, being in the ring with a lot of these superstars of wrestling. And so it's more reflective thought than it was in the moment. Does that make sense? Oh, yeah.
Yeah. Does that make sense? And now for real. Had I grown up being a some big time huge fan and all of a sudden Oh my gosh, I'm standing across the ring from Wahoo McDaniel, you know, the legendary chief Wahoo or something. You know, it might have been a little bit different.
But uh but yeah. Anyway, so that's how I would Answer that question.
Okay. I've got some questions from my Wednesday night Bible study group. When they found out I was coming, rapid fire. Here we go. One of the older ladies asked, and I love her to death.
She said, Is it real?
So we already know the answer to that question. We could go on to the next one. I love this question.
Well, but hold on, though. No, wait, I thought we were just going to say, we already know. Let me ask you this way because I could ask that question. If I was asked that question once, I've been asked that question a million times, it seems like. I wish I had a nickel for every time I was asked that question.
But I look at people, and I have, depending on the scenario, the setting, I go, 100%. And they'll look at me and they'll go, you know, they're like kind of cockeyed. I'm like, hey. It's 100% entertainment and it's 100% real in this sense. Like, if I slam you on this concrete floor right now, I assure you, you will really.
Feel that concrete floor, right?
So It's real in the sense that it's not exact science. Guys really get hurt. Yes. There have been many injuries over the years. But it's also entertainment.
So that's the real part to that. I was so impressed when Lodi asked us to come and to Two. To be at his gym one evening and got to meet some of his students and how they were training and how. My level of respect for wrestling just, yeah. Went to another level, right?
It went to another level, and so. Yes, it is real. You can't go in there and just pretend to fake something. And it's not faking. I mean, it's chat-trix.
It's entertainment. Yes, something. But you're really getting body slammed. It's not. Yeah, I really got hit with a chain.
I really got run into a steel cage. Oh, hey. Where is that chain? Where is the chain? It's in the attic, and whatever my children or grandchildren want to do.
So you have it. You have it.
Okay, I didn't know where the chain ended up. Handed down from Uncle Ivan, like his lot of history to that Russian chain. But to your point, real quick, I had a friend of mine who used to joke about how fake it was. And I had a little ring set up for about a year and kept asking him to get in the ring. And he would always decline because he thought once I got him in there, I was going to like.
Tie him up like a pretzel. And I go, here's all I want you to do. I just want you to run the ropes. You have my word. I will not.
Touch you. I won't lay a finger on you. Here's how you do it. And I modeled it for him. I go, come on.
He goes. All right, so so you did. Scott, I promise you, he hit one rope, bounced off it, and hit a second rope and collapsed to the canvas. He was, I think I broke a rib. I think I broke a rib.
I go, No, you didn't break a rib, it's all fake. You didn't break a rib. But to your point, he had a whole nother level of respect. All right, here we go. Let's move on.
Okay. So this is a good question. If after football, after college. If it wasn't wrestling in the eighties, what would it have been? What would you have done?
Football. I I mean, the only reason I didn't pursue professional football was because of the phone call I got to give professional wrestling A chance. I'm an all-in kind of guy. And so there was. In my mind, Scott, there was nothing that was going to prevent me.
from from making a protein somewhere somehow. Nothing would have prevented me. And part of that motivation was And part of my story is, for those who don't know, I overcame two fractured legs in college, one my freshman year, where I fractured my tibia and fibula, both bones. Was told I would never recover. Did.
Played three more years only to fracture my other leg, tibia fibula. And overcame that.
So, in my mind, and when I was scouted by the NFL scouts my senior year, which I was. I looked at that guy, think back now on it, I kinda chuckle because I remember when that guy was putting me through all the test, you know, the leaping test and your your standing jump and how much you can bench press 225 pounds. And it was like a three-hour mental test. Like Q A. like you had to fill out an answer.
Right? Oh, yeah. And I remember at the very end I said, I say, you can do all these tests, buddy. You're just kind of not not. Super cocky, but I said, you can do all these kinds of tests and everything, bud.
But I'm going to tell you what. The one thing you can't measure That's the size of a man's heart. I will play in the NFL. You will see. I'm like, thinking back, I'm like, well, how many times have you heard that?
But anyway, so, all right. That's what I would want to hear if I was in that guy's shoes. I'd want to see that passion, that heart, that determination. I was determined, man. If it hadn't been Russ and Scott, I would have been on a.
You want a little quick side note here?
So check this out.
So the Tampa Bay Bandits of the original USFL is where I lined up a tryout. I was going to use that as a stepping stone to the NFL. On that team, I would later find out. Had I made it to Tampa, which I didn't, got sidetracked to Charlotte, North Carolina. But had I made it to Tampa, there were two guys on that Tampa Bay Bandit team by the name of Ron Simmons.
and Larry Foyle AKA Lex Luger.
Okay. They were both on that Tampa Bay Bandit team.
So I would have met them then. Not later on in the squared circle. Gotcha. Crazy. Isn't that something?
It is. All right.
What you got? Oh, well, I've got so much. Let's shift just a little bit back to. You've probably been asked this before, but you know, you've stepped into the ring as a As a Russian, I mean, you're from Minnesota, but all of a sudden you're from Russia. Via Minnesota, that's right.
And I know that you've learned some Russian. I'll wear it here and there, but Have you ever been to Russia? I have not. I have not. I have thought about it a number of different times.
The closest I came was on a missionary trip to Moldova.
Okay. Uh which is kind of next door to to the Soviet Union. But and and maybe one day I will. I don't know. It it's not really a bucket list thing.
Gotcha. Kinda. I mean, it'd be cool to go to Moscow and You know, see everything, but have we ever done any professional wrestling in Russia? I mean, I don't think, I don't think they have, actually. That's one interesting.
I do not believe they have. I mean, think about it. We had you guys in the 80s being represented in the Russians, and then Rocky Ford, 1985. Yep. Remember, Ivan, Ivan Drago.
Yeah, we had to defeat him too. Right? You know, a screen test for that movie, right? Yeah, I did not know that. Did you know that?
Tell me some more about that. Yeah, Dolph Lundgren and I were on the set with Sylvester Stallone. It was down it was between the two of us. Is that right? The the director called a couple of weeks later and he's like, You're you're Nikita, you're you delivered the lines like like a master, but You're too big.
Like I was, you know, two hundred eighty five pounds, eight percent. body fat, still owns five foot six, one hundred sixty pounds. Just a little guy. Right. Just a little tiny.
Like, and I guess I on screen, I just dwore. In fact, on the set. As I'm delivering the lines, we're standing next to each other. We did nose to nose. And they said, I'll never forget it.
They go, We lost you in his shadow. Like they lost him. On screen in my shadow, you know, the way the lighting was. And I'm like, I won't be getting this job.
So, anyway, that is interesting. Nikiti Kolov could have been Ivan Drago, but it wasn't meant to be. that it wasn't meant it wasn't meant to be in fact there's other things that's happened in your In your career, didn't you? Experienced an injury around 92 that led to the decision to retire. But then it wasn't career ending, but the short answer is yes.
Van Vader injured my neck, and I got a hernia in that same night lifting up his 450-pound torso.
So and I had to have hernia surgery. And then was rehabbing my neck, and it was during that time I'm like, yeah, I'm done.
Well, that sets you up for 1993. That's when you were saved. That's correct. October 17th. And you felt the call to go into ministry then as well.
I wouldn't phrase it that way. Or sent in that direction. What it. What it what how I would phrase it is because There was a guy named Buddy who came to me after service, and an incredible story: how the Lord, five years earlier, told him to start praying for my salvation. 'Cause he 'cause 'cause God had a call to ministry on my life.
I couldn't have told you for the life of me what a what that meant, a call to uh to ministry. Later learned what it what it meant to have a call. Um but it was a five-year process of discipleship, which you're big on. That I walked through. Cola for Christ Ministries wasn't officially launched till 1998.
So five years after walking through a process of discipleship. And it's been wide open ever since. Yep. Yep. 1993.
I thought that was interesting though that Uh that transition A lot of folks oh, I'm I'm so sorry that you experienced that. That injury, or this transition, or you weren't able to stay in it, especially when things were beginning to really take off. Wrestling started getting really lucrative for a lot of people. Big time. And I could have stayed in it, but.
I just made an executive decision. I'm like, no, I'm done. And there's a whole lot more. To that story, and what factored into that injury was a part of it. Just having children was a part of it, starting a family was a part of it, setting goals the day I broke into the business was a part of it.
So, there were a lot of factors that led into that decision without knowing 11 months later I'd find myself at an altar surrendering my life to Christ and then taking me on a whole different trajectory. I can tell you, Scott, right now, I feel certain 100% had I landed Rocky IV. Had I become Ivondrago, You and I probably wouldn't even be sitting here having this conversation. Whole different direction. Whole different direction.
The Lord's got a plan for us, He has a plan. Yep. We got time for maybe one, maybe two more.
Okay. Well, I am very interested in hearing what your thoughts. Favorite Bible story. is and why. Mm, that's a great question.
I don't Do not think I've ever been asked that question before. My favorite, gosh. There's so many good ones, it's pretty h Man, to narrow that down, um There's two that kind of pop in my head. One is OT, and one is NT. One's New Testament, one's Old Testament.
And uh So uh uh I guess I'm going to give you both 'cause they both popped in my head.
So We'll go with uh I'll go with the old I'll go with the New Testament first. Jesus walking on water and Peter stepping out of the boat. And I'm like And what would what would that have been like? If I had been Peter, And had the courage to step out of the boat, you know, what would that experience have been like? And for him to walk on water, that in itself is hard to comprehend and wrap your head around.
But then for. Peter, for a moment anyway, to have the courage to at least step out is like, wow, that's a pretty cool deal right there. And I've sailed the Sea of Galilee. Not in a storm, but I've sailed it, so I know what it's like to be on the Sea of Galilee. and how windy it can get.
So I had a taste of it, but not full-blown storm. Um That's a favorite story. And then Old Testament. David and Goliath. Amen.
Yep. David and Goliath. And I think, Scott, what it represents, you know, even at his, you know, by all accounts, he was a teenager, and, you know, and yet he goes up against this, you know, nine, ten foot tall, however tall Goliath was. But again, the courage.
So the courage of Peter to step out of the boat. Right. The courage of David to step out on faith. own faith is. And and so I wanted to end with that story for this reason.
One, I appreciate you coming in today. Thanks for having me. Yeah, privilege and a pleasure. And the fans out there, the folks out there that listen in every week are phenomenal.
So on that note, I have a challenge for the fans, though, and that is this. What's your Goliath? Like, who's that Goliath in your life that you just need the courage to go up against him? But God, with the help of God, you'll defeat him. Just as David defeated his Goliath, you can defeat your Goliath with the help of God.
So make sure you have your heart right, your life submitted, and yielded to the good Lord Jesus Christ. And one more time, Ignite.
So in September 27th, we're going to be at Asheboro High School. Ashboro High School Gym. Live wrestling. Live. It's going to be great.
