Hey Nick and Nick, Nick at Night, here we are. So for those who probably don't know, wouldn't know, Nick Cornish is the man behind the scenes you might say that produces Q&A with Koloff, produces the man up show. But that's not all Nick, you're here at Truth Network and how many, tell us what else you're doing here at Truth. Yeah, so I produce about 20 shows.
Some of them include with Robbie Dilmore, the Christian car guy, Truth Network CEO, Stuart Epperson. I produce his shows, you know, and I just keep the ball rolling and I love it here. And you love, you do a great job and you love what you do. You went to school for this. Actually you kind of taught yourself first, then went to school.
Would that be accurate? Yeah, so I taught myself a little bit about recording first and then, you know, I went to school for it. Learned more just from the experts and people that, you know, they know what they're doing and they pass along their teaching skills to me and, you know, I've made it into a career. Well, I'm starting to make it into a career. I'm still in the beginning stages, but you know, I like where I'm going so far. And of course radio and podcasting and producing isn't all you do, if I'm not mistaken. You've had a passion for music since about the age of five, would that be correct? Absolutely, five. Over life, I played about seven instruments.
Wow. Yeah, so it started off with piano, what was it? Piano, trumpet, baritone, trombone, tuba. I knew you were in the choir too. Yeah, I was in the choir too.
I think I'm forgetting one, but yeah, but still at least a handful. Yeah, so those are, are those, because like what's, those aren't percussionists. They are brass instruments. Brass, okay.
I knew there were like certain categories, right? Yeah, there's brass, woodwind, and percussion. Percussions, okay. Okay, so you were mainly down that path, although, so do you still play piano? You've been playing piano since about the age of five, right?
You still play? Yeah, I still dabble with the piano. I definitely use piano.
I like to practice my skills on that. I feel as a good musician, a way to, you know, continue to, you know, still improve and get better and, you know, keep up is to practice your skills, you know. And, and you're, you're currently, you're, you're writing songs or working on writing songs and writing, and I always draw a blank, but the, not chorus, but the music, the notes and... Composing. Composing, so you're doing both songwriting and composing of music? Yeah, I like to write lyrics and then I like to write out the notes too. Put the music too, so come up with the song and then put the actual music to it, is that... Or vice versa, like you can make, you can make a song in so many different ways, you know, some, and sometimes like, I'm kind of guilty of this, but like sometimes when I'm at my desk and I'm supposed to be working, I have a quick melody that just pops in my head or just a quick song, like a lyric or a bar, just, I have to write it down. Yeah, before you forget it, right? Exactly, I have to write it down or I have to hum it in order, so by the time I get home, I can like put it in my computer and kind of save it for later.
Okay. And, and the sounds of music with technology have changed over the years, yeah? Oh yeah, yeah, it's changed for the better and for the worse in my opinion, like music, it creates new sounds and a new, you know, sometimes new genre. However, it can take out the authenticity of, you know, music. The artist, the heart of the artist, would that be fair to say? Absolutely, yeah. And, and so yeah, so it's kind of a, I guess I would phrase it, a double-edged sword in a way.
And so we can look forward in the future then. If people want to learn more about your music, where can they go to find out about you? Yeah, Instagram and TikTok, you can follow me at I am Nick underscore C, that's I am N-I-K underscore C. So Nick Cornish, and so we talked about what you're doing and your love for music because we have, I know we have something in common and that's Motown R&B, right? That's your favorite genre? Yeah, that's where it all started. Okay, that's where it all started.
Your mom, right? Oh, she, her and my grandmother, you know, they would, you know, that would be the music we'd play on Sundays. You know, it's this clean, we clean the house and we clean the house on Sundays, you know, that would definitely be the music that they will play.
And, you know, we would just, you know, clean the house up top to bottom and the music will help it go faster. Yeah, so it just became ingrained in you, me as well, having grown up way back in the day in the project in Minneapolis, that was one of the main things we, yeah, helped us get by, you know, just, you know, escape, if you will, in a sense. It really heals, the music heals, for sure.
It sure can, can it, right? So, and I know, now what about, I know your faith is very important to you and I know your mom's very important to you. Yeah, so, you know, she, my mom was the one who, you know, brought me to church, you know, she, she was, she's just a big impact on where I am today.
Okay. Because I feel if I didn't have the support and love from her, then I would be somewhere where I should not be, you know what I mean? Well, you've said before, she, she's your rock, your sword and your shield. Yeah, rock, sword and shield and, you know, she, she, there's no words to describe on how much support she has given me and how much, you know, our relationship is just really, really good, you know what I mean?
That's pretty powerful. I wrote those, rock, sword, shield, because in my mind, so a shield protects, so she's protected you, a sword defends, right? She's defended you, she's protected you, but then she's the rock, man. My, my impression is she is rock solid and you know you can depend on her.
Absolutely. And you know, it is vice versa too, because, you know, I can be her rock, sword and shield too. So, and you know, as when I was younger, I probably wasn't the best at it, but you know, now that I'm older, you know, she can, you know, we can rely on each other and that's a really good thing.
Because she, I was raised as an only child and the only child with a, with a mother, with a mother in the household too. So she would definitely was, you know, rock, sword, shield, everything. That's awesome. Well, very cool. You're listening to the Truth Network and truthnetwork.com Nikita Koloff here and I am excited. Did you hear the huge announcement, the big announcement?

Go to iAssociates.com for more information. It is Q&A with Koloff, so I do want to give you an opportunity to ask me a couple questions as well. We've worked together for quite a long period of time. You've heard a lot of my story and a lot of the interviews I conduct having produced the Man Up Show and of course Q&A with Koloff.
So on that note, fire away. What's the first one? When people look back at your life, what do you hope people will remember you by? Mmm, that's a good one. It's similar to, you know, sometimes you ask people, what do you want on your gravestone, right?
What do you want engraved there? And wow, I mean, where I'm currently at, the stage of life I'm currently in, my goal, because there was a time, of course, with the professional wrestling career and sports and my passion and love for it, you know, that I was more inclined to pursue things like pleasure and prestige and popularity and all those sorts of things. But then, you know, having given my life to Christ in 1993 after I left wrestling, I gained a new perspective on life and the word purpose popped in. I'm like, wow, I got a greater purpose than just going in the ring and entertaining people in a wrestling match. And so now I'm at a juncture where anything and everything I want to do or hopefully do that, one, in some way or capacity will help build God's kingdom, whether that's doing a man-up camp or a man-up conference, you know, or preaching on a Sunday or doing a WrestleCon or a Comic-Con autograph signing or whatever I'm doing, wherever I'm at. Out at the coffee shop and just sitting down one-on-one with somebody that maybe I can share a nugget of truth or I can speak an encouraging word or in some way, shape or form or fashion, impact somebody's life for the better.
And so upon my passing, you know, they would look back and say, wow, he made a difference in my life, even if it was just for a brief moment that we were together or we built a lasting lifelong friendship that he made a positive impact and a difference in my life that made me, knowing him, made me a better person. Yeah. That's a good one. That was a good question.
I don't think anyone's ever asked me that before that I remember. So that's good. What else you got for me? Let's see. How, how do you define strength? Strength? Yeah. Like is it, is it physically, mentally, spiritually?
How do you, how would Nikita define someone's strength? So again, my, my perspective shifted. Now, if you go back, I jokingly might say BC before Christ in my life.
Right. Starting all the way back at 12 years of age when I picked up an Ironman magazine, a bodybuilding magazine and, and was enamored with, with how those guys looked and, and the fact that somebody could, could build their body to look like that. It just, I embraced that. And so I went to work, I set off goals and had a dream and a vision to, to one day look like that. And, and what a big, big kid, but fast forward about 12 or so years, the day I walked into the promoter in Charlotte, North Carolina, Jim Crockett's office, I went for probably a hundred pounds dripping wet with rocks in my pocket as a 12 year old to 285, 8% body fat and a 34 inch waist. I can recall, I can vividly right now recall like in ninth grade, squatting over 500 pounds for, for reps. Like, yeah, like my legs, I had strength in my legs and more so even than in my upper body. And, and so when you, we've talked about the word strength.
So initially it was, it was, it was physical, very much physical. And then fast forward to 1993, I give my life to Christ and, and again, my mindset shifts and understanding just how important. And I'll say this, when it comes to mindset, I think there's a parallel there between physical strength and spiritual strength and that the mind is critical and having the right mindset.
I can remember sitting on a bench and going, okay, and just kind of talking, you know, convincing myself, okay, I'm going to get five reps with this. I'm going to get five repetitions, you know, with, with, with this, or taking that same approach into my spiritual journey, my walk with Jesus and to go, okay, I'm going to spend 30 minutes in my quiet time, reading the Bible, praying, listening to some worship. And I'm reminded of Philippians 4 13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. And then I think of another scripture too, that says it's not by might, it's not by power, but it's by, by his spirit, sayeth the Lord. So I gain my strength now be it physical, emotional, mental, and or spiritual by drawing on his strength. And that's what really helps me make it through each day. That's good.
Yeah. I really do hope like when people listen to these like stories and we have like all these guests, I hope like there's a story in that it might not relate to everyone, but we can relate to someone and they can, you know, take that advice for sure. Well, and, and, and I'll just, let me just piggyback on that just for a second. So, so man camp, Lex Luger, another wrestling peer of mine was approached to write a book and he's like, who, who, who would want to read my book or why would they want to read my life story or what? I'm like, Lex, I mean, if only one person reads it and it impacts their life in a positive way, is that not worth the effort of putting your life story into printed form? And, uh, and so, yeah, that's a, that's whether it's one or a million and one people. Yeah.
Whether it's this show or a book that somebody reads a, yeah, hopefully, hopefully we can all with our life story, make a difference somehow, some way. So, all right. You got another one?
You got one more for me or got another one for me? I do. Um, so you mentioned wrestling.
Yup. I'm not going to lie. I have not a wrestling, I have not been a wrestling fan. Not offended by that.
A lot of people apologize for like, I'm so sorry, but I don't even know who you are. I'm not a wrestling fan. Well, it's okay. So, and that's okay. I get it.
So, okay. So you're not a wrestling fan, but I'm sure there are people out there who are wrestling fans and who want to be wrestlers too. So my question is, what advice would you give to the new generation of wrestling of, you know, performing, getting themselves out there or, you know, just, you know, having the image of a wrestler? Like what advice would you give this new generation?
Cause they don't know anything about that. A young upstart. Well, and I, and I have had guys in the business who said, who told me over, over the years, you know, in different, different shows or signings in different places, I've met a lot of, you know, younger wrestlers or, or guys who've been in the wrestling business for a long time, but, or who are still wrestling, but I've been long retired. Right.
Who said I got into wrestling because you, you, you inspired me to get into wrestling or you inspired me to lift weights and to build my body or right. And, and then I've been on some tours. I'm thinking one in particular in 2017, I did a 21 city tour in 21 days across Canada, across four provinces of Canada. We covered five, we covered 5,500 miles in 21 days, all on the ground. That's crazy.
It was crazy. All on the ground. No, no flying. So anyway, just thinking about that, I have a hard time being a car myself and like doing all that and no air travel. Yeah.
That's, that's strength right there. A lot, a lot of, a lot of travel, a lot of travel. And, and so a lot of young guys on the car and it was funny the first couple of nights they'd all come in and go, did you, did you watch my match?
Do you, any recommendations or anything you'd have? And I'm like, bro, there's about seven or eight matches on it. It's hard to keep them all straight. You know, I go, I go, if I had a notebook, you know, maybe in the next, like the next night, like one of them brought me a notebook. Like they want to be, write everything down. And so the interesting thing is, is what I said to them, cause you know, cause the wrestling has changed, like the, the performance of it or, or, and, or the style of it has dramatically changed from my day. But what I said to them quick, funny story is I said, I could perhaps give you some recommendations or tell you something, but I don't know if you're going to actually go out and do them.
Cause you, you, you young guys have this mindset of going out and doing a million things in 30 seconds. You know, that was not old school wrestling. We did, we got, I said, always remember this. We got the most out of the least. In other words, we did the least things in the ring possible, but got the most out of that one action where you guys try to compact 50 moves in into 10 seconds, you know? So all that to say, so they, they were very, very respectful, very polite and a couple, couple, two or three of them would come back in each night and go and would apply, would actually apply what I recommended. And they're like, wow, that, that really works. I'm like, yeah, there's a reason we did it that way for a hundred years before you guys started doing all this flying and flipping, you know, they're like, wow. So I'll conclude by saying this, you're out there, you have, you know, aspirations of being in professional wrestling one day.
Nowadays, you basically have to go to a camp and a lot of major organizations and even independent leagues have their own camp. The last piece of advice I would give to you out there is this. You know, unfortunately I've heard too many stories how these young guys, you can't tell them anything, which is what shocked me about some of the guys in Canada. They actually listened, but how you can't tell, they know everything. And, and someone said to me the other day, these young guys are crazy. If, I mean, if they could ride in a car with you to a town for three hours and just pick your brain, I mean, that's invaluable. How stupid are they to not do that?
You know? But many of them don't. So I would simply say this, find a seasoned, you know, whether it's a Ric Flair, not necessarily a Nikita Kolob, but a Ricky Steamboat or just someone who perfected their craft. And then, and then really embrace what they say. And the other thing we did night after night is stand out there and watch a lot of the other matches so we could learn what to do as well. And so act like, you know, nothing and learn everything you can be humble. Don't be so full of pride that you're not willing to listen to what an old timer has to say and learn from them and it'll enhance your career tremendously. So that can go a lot of ways. That can go not just from wrestling, but that can go anywhere in entertainment, being an actor, being a singer or being a dancer. You know, that, that advice is definitely where you can use that.
