Welcome to the show. First off, everybody, Dana Lash with you. We're at the top of the first hour. And no, I did not watch a single damn second of the Super Bowl or any bull or any halftime, anything. I didn't.

I actually went to go see Marco Plyer's new movie, Iron Lung, or his only movie, not a new movie, it's the only one he came out with.

So I went to I did that. That's what I did. I didn't watch any of it. I couldn't even tell you who was playing.

Okay, I Can I let me just say. I don't know when this started happening. But Maybe ten or fifteen years ago, I felt like Even though I didn't like any of the teams playing, I could watch. You know, Super Bowl or something. I could watch the Olympics because I haven't watched a single lick of the Olympics, and they're in Italy for crying out loud.

I haven't watched a single bit of it. Although I do feel a little pang of sadness at missing the Armani tribute, but that's different. Anyway.

So Maybe like fifteen 20, you know, maybe 10, 15 years ago, you could watch all of it. And it wasn't annoying.

Now Everybody has to make a political statement. And if you're not making a political statement, are you a part of the world? Are you a part of any of this? Have you do you have your hot take? Is your hot take prepared?

Just curious. You gotta have your hot take.

So I just I can't watch. Any of it. I haven't watched the Olympics because They've decided to get political.

Well, I mean, I think I kind of got out of the Olympics when they were like, I don't know, what is a woman? And they had to have this like big O thing. All of the. The whole process of deter of just confirming what we all know. And I just can't I'm just not into it.

I just can't watch it anymore. I can't watch this stuff anymore. It feels like bread and circuses. I'm not watching the Olympics because it's bread and circuses. Bread and Circus.

Super Bowl feels like Bread and Circus. I'm sorry to those of you who really take it seriously, but that's just how I feel. I just have a difficulty in pretending to raw-raw. I don't have a dog in the fight. I can't raw raw without a dog in the fight.

I just, I don't know. I can't. And then. All of the hoopla and the political drama surrounding this. That's the other part of it that King was mentioning.

Did you watch it? I did. You did? What did you think of the half-time show? Honestly, I thought it was a good performance.

If you strip away your politics and your expectations and your beliefs and this and that, I saw that as like a sort of a celebratory thing for all of the Latin countries in the Americas. both north and south. Um If I was to criticize it It would be only on the lyrics of the songs. But that would be, you know, so that to me doesn't reflect family-friendly entertainment. But outside of that, there was neighborhood, unification, family, all displayed, you know, marriages, things like that.

It wasn't the controversy I thought it was going to be. I watched so I could understand what everybody's freaking out about. I didn't watch it live. But I watched The Bad bunning performance. I did not watch the Green Day because I could not bring myself to do it.

There's no way I was going to watch that. Yeah. Here's the thing: I get really pissed off when people are like, oh, you have a problem because it's in Spanish. I get aggravated at hearing that over and over again because I feel like people. Don't I I feel like that I mean, for crying out like Shakira performed at the Super Bowl.

And she sang part of her music in Spanish. Nobody had a problem with it. And do you know why nobody had a problem with Shakira singing part of her music in Spanish at a Super Bowl? Because she wasn't running her mouth talking smack in the lead up to it. That's what people don't understand.

Nobody had a problem with anybody singing Spanish or anybody being from Puerto Rico or anybody doing anything else. Do you have to run your mouth and be an absolute jackhole? And like try to be as divisive as possible in the lead up. It's like you're setting the expectations. That's what people had a problem with.

Nobody cares if someone's singing Spanish. Get the hell over your stupid white, racist, progressive plantation mindset. I'm so tired of these Democrats out there cracking that slave whip every damn day because they don't get things their way in an election. I'm so tired of it. Just shut up your stupid old racist boomer mouths.

Done. Mm-hmm. Nobody gives a rat's ass that someone was singing Spanish. Everybody learns it in school. The hell do you people, what year do you people think this is?

Jimmy Christmas! What we have a problem with Are people running their mouths and talking smack in the lead up because you can't blame people? For having the react, this is what I love. Everyone, you have Bad Bunny out there, like, well, you better learn, you better learn some Spanish. And everybody's out there hyping it, and it's like setting up to be super political.

And then people are like, wow, maybe I won't watch it. And then the media's like, look at those mean rioties.

Well yeah, you basically told us to go screw ourselves. What are we supposed to think? Shakira didn't do that. JLo didn't do that. I mean, for credit, you've had Spanish singers at the Super Bowl before.

I don't know why everyone's acting like bad bunny. Like, Spanish didn't exist until he dropped out of his mom's lady parts. The hell, people. I mean, that's not what people are objecting to. They were upset because he was running his mouth.

Now, as for the performance. Cannot.

Okay, I got a question. I mean It's not in the way you think it is. What's that a little racist? Was it racist? I mean I've been to Puerto Rico several times.

Beautiful, beautiful country. Uh territory. They pay taxes. But the way that it was presented was like everybody there is working on a sugar plantation. And it, I mean, I'm just saying, hear me out.

It seemed a little bit And I wasn't the only person. One of my friends who is, and you guys have met her. Part Puerto Rican. Was like, yeah, that seemed a little racist. If he was white, people would be saying that.

If he was like totally white, people would be saying it was racist. I think in the context of. The founding of Puerto Rico and the actual history of Puerto Rico and their history with the sugar cane fields and things. I think that was an homage to history. History.

It seemed heavy-handed. That was the only thing. I liked at the end when he said North America, Gablos, America. But then he wasn't, I don't even think he was specifically citing just Latin. I mean, he had the American flag first, and then he was citing all of the countries in South, Central, and North America because he also said Canada.

So, I don't have a problem with that. And I know that the NFL is trying to expand. They're not going to be doing it when they're going to be all goofy. But my big thing was the fact that everyone acted like this is the first time Spanish has ever been at the halftime, because that's stupid. My second thing is ooh them lyrics.

Now I am reliably told because I can speak the most offensive Spanish. I am reliably told. that the words were changed.

Somewhere, yeah. I can't even read them to you. Um I can I don't even know I mean, you could read some. No, I don't think so because I would burn through my get out of jail free card with Brendan Carr like that. Uh Some of them were changed.

Yes.

Some of them weren't. And when I was watching the replay, I was like, oh, I know that one. It's like, whoa.

Some of it was changed, some of it wasn't. The here's the thing. What are the kids gonna if they're not familiar with that song, what are they gonna be looking up today?

Okay. And those words ain't gonna be changed, Kane. It's basically male copulatory organ, female copulatory organ. And then an activity that I can't say. And then repeat.

You get the idea. It Yeah, but what he did at the halftime show wasn't. She should play with your grandmother. You should play with your nana there. You would not.

No, I wouldn't. You wouldn't. But. Again, if the lyrics were taken out of it, the celebratory production of it, I thought was pretty impressive. And like Juan pointed out, the whole sugar cane fields and stuff, he's just essentially paying homage to the first generation of Puerto Ricans.

So there was a lot of symbolism, a lot of historic symbolism. I get that. And I think Bad Bunny did exactly what he wanted to do. I think the hype that you were talking about leading up to this was all a marketing ploy. I think it was all designed to get the very attention that they need for something this big.

And how lame is that? You're doing that by dividing the country. By portraying people as being racist just because they don't like having Smack talked about them. That's so lame. That's the new marketing technique.

That is so stupid.

So that's on them. That's not on anyone else. That's on them. for doing that. That is on them for doing it.

And I did not watch Green Day because there's something weird about being. For me, watching like a almost 60-year-old punk rock guy, not even punk rock, I mean, a 60-year-old guy pretending that his watered-down pop music is punk and they're still dressing like they did in 1994. I just have a, it just is cringe. It's like the guy who gets hair plugs and gets a and rent leases a Ferrari and goes to the club and tries to pick up chicks that are 20 years younger than him. It has those vibes, they have those vibes so bad.

You guys know they do, they have totally those vibes.

So, I didn't watch that. I didn't watch the black national anthem because it doesn't exist and it's stupid. We have one anthem. That's it because we're all Americans.

So I didn't get into that. Otherwise, I just didn't care. But remember, when was it? Like was 2021, 2020? I can't remember.

When Shakira did the Super Bowl halftime show, she performed with JLo. And I think that one. might be the most watched one. If If I'm remembering what I read in Like Super Bowl history, which No, the Shakira J-Lo one. Which, no, look, no, no offense to Shakira J-Lo.

But Prince. Yeah. Dude. Can't be. Imagine your prince and your plain purple reign in the heavens open up.

and rain actually starts to come down. And one of the most like Satisfying denouements in any kind of live performance. It was just amazing. Everybody got chills. Oh my gosh, because it was.

Brit. Just saying. There's a whole young generation that don't even know who Prince is. Shut. I'm not sure.

Now suddenly I believe in abortion. It's because you parents out there are slacking. One of the first things we did in addition to teaching that taxation was theft is that we immediately were like, these kids have to have a proper musical education. I will not have any child of mine listening to pop punk thinking that it's edgy. Not going to be listening to like commercial country.

We're not doing any of this. By the way, Where do they were in San Francisco, right? Yeah. Uh Metallica San Francisco. Yeah.

I feel like that was a missed opportunity. I agree. Just gonna sit here and sulk a little bit. Give me a second just to be mad. Just I just now realized that.

So For those of you that watched it last night, I mean, I didn't, I actually went and saw Iron Long. uh which is the uh Markiplier movie. Also, now we've got So the Olympics, you've got these skiers. Why are I thought skiers were supposed to be like. The mountain surfers, you know what I mean?

Like, hey, what's up, dude? Like, chill. mostly high and chill and completely You know, non-intrusive and non-offensive. Apparently, they're not.

So you have one skier, he's kind of backtracking from his remarks earlier because he kind of took a giant deucer all over the United States in a press conference. We're going to unpack that coming up. I can't even believe I didn't even get to, oh, and by the way, we'll talk more about the superb owl. Because we can't say the name of it or we'll get sued. Yay.

Dana Lash with you. The Olympic skier who was running his mouth. Hunter Hess is kind of backtracking. This is what he said at a press conference: like, you have one job. You go and ski.

That's it. One job. This is cut one. This is how it started. It brings up mixed emotions to represent the U.S.

right now, I think. It's a little hard. There's obviously a lot going on that I'm not the biggest fan of, and I think a lot of people aren't. If it aligns with my moral values, I feel like I'm representing it. Just because I'm wearing the flag doesn't mean I represent everything that's going on in the U.S.

So, yeah, I just kind of want to do it for my friends and my family and the people that support me getting here. With the country. Why did you even have to address it? I know that somebody asked the question, but just because a reporter asks the question doesn't mean that you have to address it. I mean, there have been other, I mean, you saw other athletes that are like, that's not why I'm here.

I'm not here to talk about this stuff. Like, I'm here to, you know, I'm here to. to with my sport, I'm here with my discipline, that's what I'm here for.

So Now he's kind of backtracking just a bit. And he's saying that there's so much great about America, there are things that could be better, et cetera, et cetera. You know, the best part is the Olympics it brings people together. I can't wait to represent Team USA when I compete, et cetera, et cetera. I mean it's not I didn't think it was much of a cleanup.

Did you? It was like the least you could do, not even that. I guess he's trying to I don't know. He's trying to be a little better. First, I would say, you know what?

I'm not going to answer any question where I have to sit here and. and you're expecting me to dog the country that I'm representing. I would immediately, if I mean, you know, not everybody has big enough cojones, I guess, but. You know, that's what these people should be saying. That's what these athletes should be saying.

But every one of them is like, oh, okay, I'll take the bait from the press. And they just walk right into it. And then, you know, they're shocked that there would be this kind of reaction to it. That doesn't make any sense. What did you think was going to happen?

Just go and just go and do your sport. Just go and compete. That's it. You don't have to do anything. And if someone's like, well, how do you feel about representing?

I don't know. You're mom. Shut up. I'm here to represent my country. That's exactly what I would say.

Your mom shut up. Shut your face, go delete your face, done, not even answering your stupid question. These I don't they act like they're scared of the press. Stop being scared of these pansies. Stop being scared of them.

Stand up to 'em. I mean, like Lindsay Vaughan, this is cut six. Listen to this. It's a privilege to represent your country and the Olympics are the largest stage in the world, the largest sporting event in the world. To walk out into the opening ceremonies with your fellow teammates is such an honor and I always feel incredibly lucky that I'm even able to compete at that level.

So I definitely don't take it for granted and I'm going to enjoy my last Olympics as much as I possibly can. She uh had one hell of a wreck. I mean Share Crash when she, uh I mean, man. I don't know if you guys saw a video of that. That was pretty crazy.

She crashed early into the women's downhill. And I read that she she had to be airlifted out, but I read that she broke her leg. Uh there were a couple of other skiers that crashed afterwards, and then there was some Concern about the melting snow and that it was not going to be as easy for other skiers, etc. But um she had a I didn't know that they're racing suits. Had little airbags in them, and they do, and hers inflated.

And uh when they lose control, they s you know, they say it s helps to soften your fall, but Man, that was a rough. Crash This was after an ACL, a reported ACL rupture. And that um I mean It just looked bad. I mean, you're falling down a mountain. Let's be honest about what it is.

I mean, you're falling down a mountain. So I don't know if she's. This was apparently supposed to be her last. Olympics. She it was interesting because she was slamming some of these these critics because people were out there saying, Oh, Lindsay Vaughan at her age, can she s I mean, she's in her forties.

She's not ninety years old. But that's kinda it is sort of weird when you see the press do that. And there were there was a reporter that was writing about her that way. And saying that, Well, can you believe it her age, etcetera? And she's like, What are you talking about?

And she's like, What do you mean, at my age? I thought that was. Just it's I mean, she's probably At that particular discipline, don't you think that she's probably the best perhaps that's ever been at that discipline? I think so. Uh but she Uh I mean She's been doing this for a long time.

She's a powerhouse. I mean, I think she deserves a little bit of a little bit of courtesy in that. But yeah, they were like the Atlantic were like, oh, she shows what happens when athletes keep competing into their 40s. Do you realize that some of these 40-year-old athletes? would smoke some of these 20-year-olds that have never done it.

Like imagine. These people are at their prime. They are they are uh they're fin they're machines. But it's very interesting. And I think it increased even more when she said that it's a privilege to represent your country, et cetera.

You also have. I thought this was there's a couple. This was, oh for crying out loud. Surprise, surprise, it's a figure skater. This was Amber Glenn.

I don't even know who this brought is. This is cut four. She's a figure skater, and let's get political. Here we go. Yeah, it's been a hard time for the community overall under this administration.

It isn't the first time that we've had to come together as a community and try and fight for our human rights. And now, especially, it's not just affecting the queer community, but many other communities. And I think that. We are able to support each other in a way that we didn't have to before, and because of that, it's made us a lot stronger. I hope I can use my platform and my voice throughout these games to try and encourage people to stay strong in these hard times.

So you could say queers now? I mean, is that a word that you can say? Because I thought it was bad to say the queers. It's the Q in L G B T Q.

So I'd think that's a good idea. Yeah, but if you were to start a sentence with, yeah, well, the queers, you know, that would. Previously. You would be accused of of Slurring, right? You need listening intently if you started a sentence like that.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, I know that if I'm, you know, it sounds like a very red foreman way of starting a sentence.

Well, the queers. First off, I don't know who she is because this is why I don't watch the Olympics. I have people who are, they have one thing and then they don't want to look at, they don't want to do that thing, they want to go and do something else.

So she says The queers are having a hard time in Trump's America. I mean, no examples are given. But those queers are really having a time of it. And I'm like, what do you mean? What Yeah.

I got a question. What about the Iranian athletes where they throw said queers off buildings? What about any of these other countries where the queers are put to death, the ones that are competing in the Olympics? Oh, Amber Glenn doesn't have anything to say about those. No, no, no.

She's just going after the United States. Let's talk smack about the United States. That's all this is. That's all it is. They're just It's It's like a struggle session to complain.

About the United States. She's, well, and no, and not giving any kind of examples. We can give you tons of examples of other countries that are competing that she hasn't said anything about. It's a hard time for the LGBTQ BBQ community overall because of this administration. You know, it's just so hard.

I mean, they actually have gay people in their administration, so I don't. know what she's talking about there. Why could was there any reporter who said, can you give us an example, Amber, of said queers being suppressed?

Well, no, I'm here, like, at the Olympics, such as, and I just I'm you know, it's just hard. For the community, the queers, you know, such as maps and such as. Yeah. So they get all these endorsement deals and they go and bash the United States. What?

Isn't is sh so wait, she's is she gay? I'm just ask I mean, I don't care, but I'm just for one particular reason. Let's see. Let me look up. Because I don't know anything about her.

Because figure skating. I don't know. Just sent.

Okay, yeah, she came out as. pansexual.

So she loves the pans. And um It's true. There's o I I mean, I would s think it would be pot sexual because just with a pot you can do more. Anyway.

So She is competing. Let me just make sure I understand this. She's competing. At the Olympics. She's got millions of dollars of endorsement deals.

And she's going, yeah, it's like super rough being an American queer. It's just so oppressive. We're so oppressed.

So oppressed. Like while she's competing at the Olympics and getting tons of money. And endorsement deals. Can I be oppressed like that? Where do I sign up for the oppression?

I too want to be oppressed. Kane, would you like some oppression?

Sounds great. Yay! That sounds amazing. Just go play in the snow. Hell, that's all you're supposed to do.

Go twirl around on ice. I mean, this is already, this is why I don't watch the Olympics. I don't want to watch. absolutely entitled brats. Create problems.

to make themselves victims of so they can feel special. That's what this is. That's what they're doing. Why if if queers are so oppressed in the United States, why are you at the Olympics? I mean granted it's figure skating, but Why are you at the Olympics?

Have you heard of the name Johnny Weir? Two words. Have you heard of that? Because if. Why is he I mean, is he commentator this year?

Him and that Tara Lipinski, whatever, that other little skater. They were actually kind of funny. But he dressed like a If this is a phrase that can be used, a gayer version of Daphne Guinness, don't know, who, by the way, was the inspiration for Moira Rose on Chitz Creek, her whole costuming. Yeah, I just um They're so oppressed that they actually can become like Olympians and stuff. in the United States.

They can actually be appointed In the, they can be appointed to the administration. Isn't that interesting? I mean, they can be Secretary of the Treasury. They're so oppressed. Who knew that American queers were so oppressed in the United States that they could be appointed to lead the U.S.

Treasury? Oh, you guys didn't know Scott Bessant was gay? Gay is the days long.

So, where is this coming from? This is just stupid. It makes her look like a ditz. I mean, don't be a gay bimbo. Just don't.

That's just not a good look for anybody.

So oppressed. Here I am at the Olympics with a gay treasury secretary. I'm so oppressed. I'm gonna dry my tears with money. Use some hundreds to dry my tears.

I I this is why I don't watch it. And It just, I can't root for people like this. Even I want to root for the person that she's competing against. And I don't want to root against my own country, so I don't watch it. I just can't.

It's just all such night just a nightmare.

He's always been very um kind of a I don't know, he's like the left's Valentina Gomez in a way, although I don't think she's really on the right 'cause she's nut. But And this really does kind of feel like that.

And then especially when you see this parade of athletes that get in front of these reporters and they're all asked, well, how do you feel about representing America?

How do you feel about representing America? And they're all collecting these sound bites from these athletes. And these these sound bites were there. they're, um, just running down the country. I just I'm not I'm just done with it.

I don't want to watch that. I can't. How are you going to sit here and do that at a press conference and then expect people to cheer you on? When you say something so ridiculously uneducated and offensive, You know, people are allowed their opinions, that's true. But when you sound like a moron, People can reject those opinions.

See, that's what's left out of that whole equation. You know, you're supposed to entertain the opinion of every leftist that gets in front of a camera, but yet. The give and take of that is that it can be rejected. And I think people are tired of it. Don't sit here and expect people to cheer for people who are running down the Republic and continuing the divisive DEI-ness.

Uh of the left. You can't expect people to cheer for that. I just, I don't know. I just don't follow. And like the one chick who was the figure skater, we played her audio last hour.

So I had tweeted this. This is an actual. headline that the Washington Post Had. When by the way, when was the last time that Colin Kaepernick Like played. Football.

Does anybody know? Kane, do you know? Steve, you're a football dude. Do you know? When was the last time he actually played?

Uh maybe like 2017, twenty eighteen. Oh my gosh.

Okay, so this is why this is even more ridiculous. Ha the From the Washington Post, quote The Super Bowl is being played in Colin Kaepernick's former home stadium, at a societal moment that echoes the issues he forced football fans to confront nearly ten years ago after he kneeled during the national anthem before a Forty Niners game. What? Hmm. Uh And they actually said that the most the Washington Post literally wrote, that the quote most relevant figure to the Super Bowl is Colin Kaepernick.

Oh, they didn't fire enough writers. over at Washington Post. Clearly Bezos needs to fire some more. You know, people never Objected to peaceful protests. People were objecting to the premise for the protest.

Because it was all about, oh, well, cops shoot more assailants of color than they do white assailants. And that's actually has been factually disproven six ways to Sunday, multiple times by multiple independent entities. And so I can't, I'm not going to sit here and rah-rah behind a lie. That's just a lie. That's what people were objecting to.

I don't care about however you want to disresp I mean, it's disrespectful. But If you want to do that instead of riot, that's better. But it's still disrespectful. And what made it even more disrespectful was that it was done based upon a lie. By the way, that was like one of the first.

Not one of the first, but that was one of the bigger cracks when we left our old church. And I think we may have found a new church, by the way, in our ongoing. uh search for a Bible believing church. But We had our, at the time the pastor got up there and just rattled it off like it was fact. Oh yes, you know, cops shoot more black people than white people.

Set it up on the dais. Yeah. I looked at my husband and my husband looked at me. I was and he knew I'm like mm Wrote wrote to the uh pastor, wrote to the elders, didn't hear back. Yeah.

So But that's that was a lie that was that was promoted. The media also promoted it. Why are they trying to dredge this up now? Kaepernick was never a unifying figure. He wasn't even great.

He wasn't even like a really great football player. They act like he was like this Hall of Famer and he wasn't. He never was. I think it's safe to say that maybe in the beginning When he first started, that some people thought, oh, maybe there's an opportunity, you know, there's a potential here for him to be really great, but he just didn't have it. And that has nothing to do with his politics.

It's just the way it is. He just didn't have it. and I think he knew he didn't have it. And I think he knew that he was going to be let go. And he had to do something to try to keep his name in the press because his skills as a player definitely weren't doing it.

I feel like that's accurate to say, Kane. Yep. And that's how the and then everybody aid him. They aided in a m a m im media the mediocrity of a player by trying to act like it was really politics that everyone was reacting to and it wasn't at all. Just the bait and switch of this.

But that Washington Post decided to write that. I mean, this is why nobody, this is why they're losing.

Societal moment that echoes the issues. What are you talking about? What? About what? They didn't even actually get into it in the piece.

They didn't get into it how it was disproven that stat is a lie. In fact, it's been mission creep. They change what he took the knee for this whole they keep changing what it is. But yeah. Speaking of Washington Post, that's one example.

Let me regale you with this amazing headliner, right? This was from a couple of years ago, but it's probably one of their dumber ones. Quote Researchers say Discovery's programming overwhelmingly featured white men as experts while emphasizing negative messages about sharks. No. Mm.

Kane I've got issues with that headline. There was a real actual. Headline That was an actual Headline from Washington Post. Shark, weak, lacks diversity. And it overrepresents men named Mike.

Because apparently, there are no black Americans ever that have been named Mike. Can't I just give you that? That's a real thing. That is a real story. That's just one of several ridiculous headlines.

You didn't think it was real. It's real as the day is long. It is. Michael Jackson's like really hurt and Steve notes that. I mean Michael Jordan, Michael Jackson.

I mean, we can sit here and go on and on. I mean Michael B. Michael B. Jordan. That's right.

Let me read you the first. Graph of this ridiculous story from Washington Post. Can you believe, based on this story, that they weren't making any money? And Jeff Bezos had to fire writers. Oh, here's how it starts.

Note the last name. Lisa Whitenack loved sharks as a kid. She spent rainy days leaving through a guide to sharks and readers' digest, and every summer she would watch Shark Week, Discovery's annual T V event that spotlights the ocean predator with seven days of dedicated programming. But when the scientist appeared on her TV screen, she rarely saw any women she could look up to. First off, why are you ending your sentences like that?

That's horrible writing. Quote, why would I know I could do that? White Nak said. I don't come from a family of scientists. I didn't see very many people that looked like me on television, end quote.

She found her way into shark research anyway, the article notes, and she became a biology professor in Pennsylvania. I think that's one of the stupidest things ever. I don't see people like me on T V, so I guess I can't on this one instant, so I guess I can't do it. I feel like these are just made-up stories from women who just want to try to create this. Obstacle that they had to come over to inflate their importance and affect in their own minds.

That's really so it gets down into it. And they're very upset that there are no people of color interested in sharks.

Now, I know it's an older story, but this is one of the reasons why Jeff Bezos is firing everybody at the Washington Post and why they're not making any money. They literally went.

So, this one chick.

Now, you would think with a headline like this. Maybe they would have had a team of researchers that looked at shark weeks and stuff. No, they didn't. They just had this one chick complaining. Her own study found that no there's no people of color that like sharks and that the T V specials featured six white men out of eight named experts.

What? So s out of eight people, six of them were white? Oh, calero And then she said most of the X Shark experts were men. which means that sharks are sexist and racist.

Okay. This is why This is why nobody is reading Washington Post. This is the stuff. This is why nobody's rating it. It is a joke.

This is an absolute joke. But that's what...

I think it's made boring because everybody decided to get political as well. But the guy, Todd Richards, said that he was unimpressed with the boring men's snowboarding big air finals on Saturday.

He goes, that was so, he goes, it was so boring. He said that the qualifier was more exciting, and apparently people were mad.

Well, if it was, it was. I mean, get over it. Also, let's see here. FCC is launching a probe into the view amid crackdown on equal time for candidates. Nobody cares.

Wall Post publisher Will Lewis abruptly stepped down. A person got a back tattoo in a Wendy's dining room. This is separate from the other headline. Apparently, a dude took his shirt off and got a back tat at a Gastonia Wendy's in North Carolina. And I don't know, man.

It's what he did. It was filmed from a car and it showed a dude sitting shirtless in the dining area of Wendy's. And then somebody was behind them wearing blue gloves and holding a tattoo gun and tattooing their back. And it's weird. That doesn't sound hygienic at all.

It was better. And I just kept thinking, oh, it's because they're Italian or they're French, and they just, this is just how they make stuff. It's just, you know, more, maybe it's more wholesome. And then I started looking at how they were regulating the stuff that was going into their products, particularly like in Italy, for instance, the breads, and even just like their, all their packaged foods. And it just, you can go over there and you can eat bread and pasta all day long and you don't feel any kind of effect.

I mean, it's even, the wine is even different over there. Here in the United States, not so much. This absolutely, this dovetails into it, and it blew my mind.

So the First Lady of Florida, Casey DeSantis, started this. huge movement where there she's she began looking it's the healthy it's the healthy Florida First initiative. She began looking with the Surgeon General, Dr. Joseph Lapido, and the governor, her husband Ron DeSantis, and they were looking at like these chemical Contaminants that are in all of these different foods. And it's like, what in the world? It's totally unacceptable. But I'm like you. I am pro-consumer being informed to make informed decisions about your health. I love that because we're not informed for the people who think, oh, well, it's on the ingredients.

It's not.

So I started with the list that, like, I started with the bread, and I was going down the list that's on the website again for the people who want it. Exposingfoodtoxins.com. You have like a whole section on bread.

So, for instance, nature's own. Nature, it's nature's bread.

Sounds real healthy, right? Like it's going to be simple ingredients. And I'm looking at the ingredients list.

Okay, there's some weird stuff here. You know, we've got soy lectin, you've got the monoglycerides, you've got all this acid, but you have, what is it, monocalcium phosphate. But not the other stuff that they really do need to be telling people about, like the stuff that's in Roundup and the weed killer for crying out loud that's in the food. And I've noticed this is a trend, like with all of this. They don't really list everything that's in there.

Isn't that a violation?

Well, I mean, yeah, if they're part of what the FDA does is when a company wants to bring a product to the market, that company is required to put what's in that product, a list of ingredients. And if it differs from that, then yes, they could be held accountable, right, for things that are in there that, you know, that they say aren't in there in the infancy. But yeah, the silver lining I would say with this, I mean, is that yes, this is very problematic. There are triple-digit glyphosate levels. That's weedkiller roundup, right?

There's no way that that should be in bread full stop. But what we're finding, though, when you look at that list, is there are some that are doing it right. There are some that don't have weed killer in the bread.

So don't tell me it can't be done. And actually, we found that in every category, whether it was the baby formula, the candy, the bread, there are some that have zero detectable levels.

So it's not a matter of, well, this is inevitable. It's just the sourcing. It is this, that, or the other. No, it can actually be prevented by incentivizing good practices. And I think the consumer comes in at this point.

To make informed decisions, and hopefully that'll tip the scale to make corporations and businesses want to do better because they're going to want your business. I mean, Snickers has arsenic in it for crying out loud. And you list on this, it gets into everything. Arsenic parts per billion. It gets, I mean, I am ashamed to say that I've had a lot of this candy before.

I mean, we go to the movies, you have candy, you know.

Well, and that's the thing. It's in aggregate, right?

So when you look at nerds, and you can find this on foodtoxins.com.

So the nerds, our Florida Department of Health, determined that if you're eating more than 86 nerds over the course of a year as a child, you are exceeding the allowable safe levels for arsenic.

Well, here's the thing, no kid is sticking to 86 nerds in a year, right? Because those big boxes, as a matter of fact, prior to me learning all of this, I mean, I would take Madison, she loves nerds, right? When you go to the movie theater, you get one of those big boxes, which you're like, oh, the sugar and all of this, and you pacify the kid because you want to get through the movie. But I mean, 86 nerds, there's 8,000 nerds in that box. And that's like totally unconscionable when you're looking at this stuff in aggregate, more than six Jolly Ranchers.

That's problematic for long-term course of arsenic exposure over the course of a year. That, I mean, this is there's nothing that is unaffected by this. We're talking to Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis about exposingfoodtoxins.com, part of the Healthy Florida First Initiative. The baby formula, as well, that really. That's really scary.

I was looking at the list. I think that's every almost every single formula, the Similac, the Infamil, I mean, all of the big names are on here. There is not one that escapes. You know, having this as part of it, and you have, I mean, for cranel, mercury. I mean, the infamil arrow powder has mercury, the gentle lease powder, mercury, uh, arsenic, mercury.

I mean, all of this stuff. I don't even know how it ever got acceptable for this to be included for consumption, particularly for infants.

Well, right. And I think that that's where a regulatory apparatus should step up. And they did so when you had the salmonella and you had the other problems with the bacterial problems as it pertains to the baby formula. But here we are, right? They are required by law to do some form of testing before the formula leaves the manufacturer.

And again, that's for like salmonella. But who's to say if Congress doesn't want to enact a law that says, well, by the way, why don't you just test for lead, cadmium, mercury, and arsenic? I mean, it seems like common sense to me because here's what really ticks me off. As a mom, you know, when I went back to work, I tried to do the best that I could to breastfeed for as long as I could. But when I went back to work, I had to rely on formula.

And so I went into the store and went up and down the store aisles and looked at various formulas. And there was an expectation in my mind that that was a product that you could trust. That surely they wouldn't put something that was contaminated with lead, right? You assume that it winds up on a store shelves, that therefore it must be safe. And it's just Disappointing to be here, but we have been here before.

And here's what I want to see: change. Why aren't these baby manufacturers, these formula guys, jumping up and down saying, We're going to fix it? This is egregious. This is terrible. You don't hear anything from them.

And that is just not okay. And moms are ticked, parents are ticked, grandparents aren't happy. And so I think they should really look themselves in the mirror and make some change on behalf of the consumer. Ultimately, a baby who doesn't deserve to be fed lead in the first years of their life. And our surgeon general will tell you with that exposure over the course of their lifetime, their cancer risks increase.

And so, like, totally unacceptable. I can't even imagine. I mean, we understandably get upset, you know, when we've been talking about transitioning of minors and, you know, the gender experimentation and the hormonal abuse. And people understandably get upset about that. This is abuse, you know, really of a whole other sort.

And you're going after the health of, you know, our most vulnerable, our babies, our Kids and unknowing, too. And that's the thing that you said that really sticks with me. It's not as though they're being transparent about it. They're not. They're not being forthright about the things that are in their products.

And you're trusting because it's on the shelf, and we're here in the United States of America. You know, that carries some weight. You should be able to trust what's on that shelf. And you can't. And now we're dealing with all of these adverse effects from, you know, years of being exposed to this stuff and our food supply.

You mentioned Congress as well. Why are they so slow to act on something like this, especially when it can be a national security issue? Really? It's our health. You will have to ask the U.S.

Congress why they're slow on a lot of things, to be brutally honest. But I mean, what we want to do is we find ourselves in this very unique situation as force multipliers to the federal Maha movement. What Kennedy's doing, but Kerry, these guys is excellent. Dr. Ah is like this is a great movement.

And I think now is the time to really seize the mantle. And I think we can do this through a collaboration of the states.

So think about it as divide and conquer. If we're doing it in Oklahoma, who's been great, in Arkansas, And Georgia and West Virginia and Indiana and all these states are coming out in Tennessee saying, Let's all divide and conquer and see who wants to test what and trust but verify the integrity of the food supply.

So, just so a company says they're putting something out there, let's ensure that it is. And if there is something that's problematic, and we're finding the evidence and data that it says so, then let's provide that to the FDA so that they can go in and do the appropriate regulation. I think it's a federalist system. I think it's the right thing to do. And I've been reaching out to a lot of states, and I've seen nothing but positive responses so far.

I would imagine, I know that in Texas, because Texas is one of the states that was pushing through some of these initiatives legislatively, and it was very much parentally driven, really, with a lot of moms that were really driving this in Austin. And they've definitely wanted to see more things like this. And I love the idea of approaching it federally. I mean, if Congress isn't going to do it, then the states are going to lead the charge and do it. And I'm glad that you found some help in some of these other states.

We need a lot more. You would think that California would be, you know, they're health conscious. You would think that that would be a state that would be eager to get involved in this. And have you heard anything from them or some of these other blue states? I don't think Gavin Newsom's reaching out to the free state of Florida.

So I had to add to it something. Yeah, they are doing some things as it pertains to labels. What I ultimately think is the solution is to empower the consumer to vote with their pocketbook, right? I sound like golden girls, like their pocketbook, but to vote with their purchase power, right? If people find out the truth, they have informed consent about what they're consuming, they understand, and then they make those decisions, then by inertia, you're going to find that they're going to choose products that are better than others.

And I think that that is really important. There is a regulatory apparatus, though, to this, because if you think about it, you have a baby formula company, and let's say they come in and they say, I want to do the right thing. We're going to test for everything.

Well, you would think that their cost of business is going up, right? Versus their competitor. If they don't do that, then they're at a competitive advantage to the other company. And so does that mean that they're going to not be able to stay afloat if this other guy is undercutting the market, right?

So there has to be an even playing field. And I think this is the role for government, right? Because government, this is entry-level. Right, I'm you know, I limited and defined government. You know me well enough to know, you know, less government intervention, the better.

But with this one, it's entry-level in the sense that food is fundamental to survival.

So, and this is fundamental to children that they need this to be able to survive in the first years of their lives, especially if you're somebody like me and you're going back to work and you can't breastfeed all the time.

So, I think that there is a solution here, and it's not just, and that's what I love about what the Surgeon General is doing and the team at the Department of Health, and obviously with the governor, it's not like let's just point out a problem and this is terrible. The solution is one that we have better options within each category so we know it can be done, and then two, there are some regulatory apparatuses that can give an even playing field, but the accountability and the transparency to the consumer so you can make informed decisions.

So, there's a way to do this, and I think the time to do it is now with the states and the support of the federal Maha movement. And I think that parents obviously can get involved and they can start by. By going to the website, exposingfoodtoxins.com. What would you say to moms and dads out there that are wanting to get more involved in this and help make sure this happens in their state? Yeah, that's a great question.

So, first of all, I would encourage your state, if you're not, if they're not a part of it, encourage them to say, hey, you should get on board and try to do what Florida is doing. And honestly, this is being a good steward to the taxpayer, right? This is what I think people expect of their government to do to ensure the integrity of the food supply.

So, I think that that's one. I think informing yourself to the best of your abilities. I mean, clearly, grandparents, parents, they don't want to inadvertently give their children or grandchildren something that's problematic.

So, going to the website, seeing which ones are better than others, hopefully, that will force some change on some of these businesses and corporations that will see that in their bottom line, right? The end of the day, they have an ROI, they've got shareholders of people that they need to be able to be accountable to. If they start to see a dip in the numbers, well, then they're going to make some changes. And, like I said, I really see it with my moms. You know, we are doing everything that we can to try to provide the best platform for our.

Our kids, you know, I'm making sandwiches thinking that I'm doing the right thing. But we are at the point in our lives where, you know what, we're not going to take it and we're going to stand up. And I think that this is the best way to do it through the power of the pocketbook and then reaching out to your state legislature or governor's office. There you go. Well This guy walked out on his bar tab, and apparently it was pretty pricey, but then he had to come back. The next day 'Cause he forgot his phone charger. on CNN. of all places. Where It was discussed the errors. Of the census and how it was always to the detriment. It was always negatively impacting.

Red states, and remember. The left said that this was just hysteria and it was fear-mongering, but it's a very real thing. This is Cut 20. It's very real. This is correct.

I can't believe this is on CNN. One of the big things is it helps decide congressional maps. Does this have everything to do with redistricting?

Well, it does. In fact, we know the 2020 census, the errors were almost always to the detriment of red states. Blue states like Rhode Island. We do know that. We do know that.

The Census Bureau's own audit of its work has proven that. Blue states like Rhode Island were overcounted. Rhode Island then didn't lose a seat. Red states like Alabama were undercounted. This is just a fact.

It wasn't all red blue, but it was disproportionately red blue. It was ridiculously disproportionate. Texas was one of those. I mean, there's a lot of blue states. I mean, think of all of the people, all of the people who've left California and who left New York to go to different states.

And this is, you know, they are refusing to accommodate this change in population and base population in these states. That affects. The census affects how your elected representatives are apportioned. It affects how you're represented in Washington, D.C.

So, you're, and they've been trying to deny, like, even Texas this for quite a long time. It's pretty crazy. And so that's not surprising to see. Like for instance, the Euro US Census Bureau They apparently undercounted Mississippi, By what? Over 4%.

The math on that is about 125. thousand. people.

Now Depending on how those individuals are in the state, you're talking about a difference in. Um A seat? a congressional seat. That What if they should have been given another red seat, and yet these states are retaining the amount of seats that they have? for the population they were counted for, and this is every four years.

But now that those people have left. And they've gone to red states, you see where the question is. This is a very serious issue. Very serious issue. And it's not just Mississippi, you know.

I mean, remember, they were fighting this in Mississippi, and the federal government. actually suspended their appeals process. during the COVID fight. And they tried to file over and over again. Um I mean Not Shocking that, and this was under the Biden administration at the time, they were fighting against this.

They don't want people to be. uh represented And you break it up, and this is just one state, you break it up county by county. I mean, there are major increases. for the last census. In a lot of these counties, a lot of these districts that are pretty red, I mean, you're goodness, you're talking about.

A pretty the error, some of these counties were undercounted by like 16%. There was a handful of them that were 16%. That's pretty significant. The Theft of anything. I think the potential for it lies in this, more so than anything else.

I mean, you're talking about the difference between seats and representation. That's a pretty. You know, pretty big thing. And then people are like, oh, well, no one trusts the census. They don't want to work with them.

I wonder why that is. You mean no one trusts the federal government, particularly after COVID? Kane, I'm so shocked. Yeah, shocking. It was my shock phase.

Very shock. You can probably hear it in the tone of my voice. If you're listening, I'm so shocked. It's just uh pretty wild. But still.

That's a big that's a big issue. That needs to be rectified. We've talked about it for quite some time. They've been trying to gerrymander it, etc. This, and then you have this: Raskin.

Things like this don't help. This is Jamie Raskin, Cut 19. They really don't understand the privilege of voting. Listen. Fine, the Save Act has nothing to do with voter ID.

They keep saying it's a voter ID law. No, it's not a voter ID law, which just says you bring ID with you to the polls when you go vote, which exists in a lot of states. That's not what this is. This says you've got to prove that you're a U.S. citizen.

So you start with your driver's license, but now you've got to show that your driver's license matches your birth certificate, which it does not for 69 million American women who have changed their names.

So they've got to be aware of that. Oh my gosh, you sexist pig.

Okay, I got married and I got, I changed my last name. My last name is my married last name. Guess what? I still have an ID to vote because I'm not an idiot.

So Jamie Raskin thinks that we women are absolute stupid morons who don't know how to have our names correctly changed on our identifying documents. Um do you know how long marriage has been around? I mean, do you know how long it's been around? It's been around for a long time. Uh do you know how long people have been changing their Names on their identifying documents quite a long time.

been quite some time. This isn't new. What? I mean, they really don't like black Americans and women. It's true.

We're all too dumb to get IDs. I've never had an issue. Oh, and then not only that. Then I moved to a different state. Mm-hmm.

I had to get a whole new driver's license. What? What? Sounds oppressive. What?

Then, then you know what? Yeah. Pass. What? What Can you believe it?

It's not that difficult to do. Jamie Raskin just thinks you're a moron. You have to actually be a certain level of stupid to think that people are going to buy that and we're going to believe it. They just don't want to have voter ID. Listen to Adam Schiff.

Because, as you know, let's show up. There was a recent poll, there's been a lot of polls on this, but in one recent Pew poll, 83% of adults. We support requiring photo ID to vote. Seventy-one percent of Democrats. Favor of requiring photo IDs.

That's something that you can support. And if not, why not? It's still going to be something that disenfranchises people that don't have the proper real ID, driver's license ID, that don't have the ID necessary to vote, even though they are citizens. This is another way to simply try to suppress the vote. I guess we're surprised when we go to Purchase one, and we have to show ID.

So, you know how oppressed I was. When I traveled and had to show ID for a hotel room. Oh my gosh, so oppressed. renting a car. Shut up, I'm so tired of those.

It's the It is the bigotry of the expectation that people are too stupid. to figure out how to get voter ID. It is the thing that you want most protected. It doesn't disenfranchise anyone. It disenfranchises cheaters.

It disenfranchises people who are trying to rob the vote of its integrity. I'm okay with those people being disenfranchised. Voter fraud promoters, people who commit fraud with voting, totally fine with those people being disenfranchised because those are the only people that are disenfranchised. When you have photo identification, Those are the only people that are affected. I mean, it makes it easier to vote.

I had a show ID the last time I went and voted, special election, a runoff. Super easy. You show your ID, you go in and vote. That's it. And if you don't have an idea I mean, what is wrong with you?

This isn't difficult. It's not it's not hard. A lot of states made it for free. Texas is one of 'em. Yeah.

There's no hurdle. I needed an ID to buy a home. I needed an ID to rent an apartment or a home. You just need it for everything. The fact that it's somehow oppressive in the context of voting is just ridiculous.

Now We've also been getting more and more out, more and more information out about the Epstein files. And interesting. Lots of stuff coming out from the exact people that. You would expect To see it. It's interesting.

Because one of the things, I didn't know this, Epstein used World of Warcraft gold to move money without it getting traced. Interestingly enough, back in 2007, Steve Bannon was coincidentally running a Chinese company. You know, he's very good friends with CCP's, what's his face, Wu? Not Gene Wu from Texas, but another guy. Uh who has like a million different names.

Yeah. Apparently, Bannon sat on the board of the company that was involved in that. Very interesting. I know. There's a couple of things that I mean, it's true.

They had different ways of moving money around. In fact, this, Courtney Turner, had written about it. Let's see. The guy who is a Brock Pierce, a cryptocurrency pioneer, co-founder of Tether and BlockOne, intersected with Epstein's network. He was at the Mindshift Conference, Epstein's Mindshift Conference from 2011 on his Pito Island, where he talked about blockchain tech.

And he was also reported to have counseled Epstein on cryptocurrency investments, et cetera, et cetera. He later expressed regret over the association.

Now, the Epstein tie extends to Pierce's collaborations with Steve Bannon, who worked at the company Internet Gaming Entertainment, IGE. And it was focused on virtual gold farming and World of Warcraft, and Bannon later replaced him as CEO. Bannon assisted Pierce's 2022 independent U.S. Senate bid, et cetera, et cetera.

So, yeah. It's very interesting that Bannon sat on the board of the company that was involved With Epstein using World of Warcraft gold to move money without getting traced. And then it came out too as well. And by the way, now you can see why I've been warning everybody about this guy for over a decade. Me, who, unlike everybody else, actually has known him in person and worked with him.

Known him for 15 years and worked with him.

So maybe the people who actually do know some of these people should be a little listened to more carefully than the people who don't know anything about these people. But he was producing a pro-Epstein documentary on the day of Epstein's arrest. He was trying to do this redemptive documentary to counter damage all of the bad PR that Epstein got from being a convicted pedo. Interesting. It just keeps getting worse and worse.

In addition to them all being pictured together over and over again, he was counseling him. The guy who, by the way, called Don Jr. a traitor. Was thrown out on his ear by Trump, likes to pretend that he made Trump. He gloms on to everybody.

He pretended to make Sarah Palin. He never made Sarah. He pretended to make Andrew Breitbart. He didn't do that. He just tried to ruin his legacy.

He claims that he created Donald Trump. Are you kidding me?

So, and all of these documents, they show tons of messages, hundreds of them. between Bannon and Epstein. He's offering him strategy advice. You know, all of this stuff, talking about making introductions for him, things like that. And Interesting.

Like how why would you be working to try to rehabilitate this guy. Why would you be working to try to rehabilitate him? And of course, he was arrested. Remember when he was arrested? He was on that CCP dude's yacht.

And the guy was convicted of money laundering and fraud in 24. He's awaiting sentencing. Yeah. I'm just saying. Just saying, he wasn't just socializing with Steve Bannon.

In fact, DOJ and House oversight, these records show a sustained conversation. coordination. Between Bannon and Epstein. They advised each other. I mean, there's The receipts are out there.

The emails are out there. You can search them and read them verbatim. This is also the guy that allowed, that invited, because he was so blinded by, he's always chased fame. Bannon has always wanted to be famous and he always wants to be viewed as like a kingmaker, right? And he's the guy who invited Michael Wolfe into the White House and let him have all access.

And then what did Michael Wolfe do? Just so Bannon could see his name in print, he writes this book that just a hit piece on POTUS, creates all of these problems that then the administration has to debunk. How are you claiming that you're like MAGA and you're a big Trump first guy when you more than anybody else have done so much more to undermine him than even some on the left? So, according to Amnesty International, North Korea is now executing school children for watching South Korean TV shows, listening to any kind of K-pop, and watching squid games. The escapees told Amnesty International that teenagers, even middle school students were publicly executed, sent to labor camps, or subjected to brutal public humiliations if they so much as dare to consume foreign media that the regime has banned.

The accounts are based on 25 in-depth interviews conducted just last year with North Koreans who fled the country between 2012 and 2020 per the organization. Not at all surprising. Not at all surprising. Also, one of the things we're going to discuss today, they sentenced Jimmy Lai to 20 years in prison, the harshest penalty ever handed down for national security offense in not really. They say semi-autonomous.

Don't risk your life for it, for crying out loud. People fall into the Grand Canyon, falling through ice, and everything else.

This is wild. Let's see. We also have a British airline stewardess who was rushed to the hospital after landing because they had a toxic fume leak on a transatlantic flight, sickened the crew. Ugh. Also, Oof.

Imagine you survive a herd of elephants and then you just get eaten by an alligator in the end. That's what happened to a fisherman in Zambia. So it came out today. that a Hong Kong court with hand-picked CCP judges. sentenced Jimmy Lai to twenty years. Everybody, we've talked about him before, media tycoon. He's a pro-democracy activist, Christian, critic of the CCP.

And he was targeted for, I think it was sedition. And I mean, this is, they looked at it as a national security offense. And it is being described as one of the harshest penalties that's ever been handed down for something like this. This trial, I think, got underway in 2023. He's been sitting solitary in a windowless room for that entire time.

And this has all been A part of Beijing's effort to try to delegitim legitimize him to Erode his influence in the area because he, I mean, he was the founder of Apple Daily and he combined finance with. Really speaking out and being very critical of what China was doing as it tried to reabsorb Hong Kong when the UK gave it up in 1997. Joining us now on this and other issues, you guys are very familiar with our very good friend Stephen Yates. You can find him on X at Steve Yates, Senior Research Fellow at the Heritage Foundation. And he's worked with two presidential administrations, and he's an expert on everything related to China.

And I know that you know Mr. Lai as well. This was. This was harsh, 20 years. And I mean, they're expecting him to die in prison, to be very blunt about it.

That's right, Dana. There's an awful lot that can be said and is worthy of being said about Jimmy. A couple of things that I would just want everyone to know. I've had the blessing of meeting a lot of extraordinary people over the course of my career. Jimmy is the only person I've ever known to come from truly humble circumstances.

build a brand, Giordano clothing, from nothing to a multi-billion dollar brand. Give it all up, I mean all of it up to support the protesters that were in the Tiananmen protests in 1989. Walked away from that in order to save the jobs of the people that were in the factories in China. But he kept his fight going, built a second brand in a completely different industry from nothing to over a billion dollars. I mean, just so you just, it's not about the money, it's about this is a truly gifted human.

And a truly gifted Chinese human who loved his country and his culture and hated what the Communist Party was doing to it. But they hated him so much in part because it wasn't just what he was doing, but who he was. And what a toxic example he was of someone born in China under communist control, going rags to riches twice, not going all capitalist money motive the way the commies would try to say, but someone with a heart, converts to Catholicism, leads kind of an information war to talk about what's at stake in Hong Kong. He's accused of colluding with foreigners on behalf of those trying to undermine China under this national security law. But at 78, after multiple years of solitary confinement, as you said, a 20-year sentence at this point is a death sentence for someone in his condition.

And really, at this point, it comes down to: is there any rationality in Xi Jinping's mind? And can President Trump talk about getting kind of a humanitarian release for him to be able to live out his days with his family? And that's basically where this is. But it's a perfect encapsulation of what's wrong with China under the CCP and how Hong Kong has gone under the PRC. I mean, the way that I understand it is they're just mad that he was critical.

He didn't collude with anyone. He wasn't acting as some kind of foreign agent. He was just, he was critical of the takeover of Hong Kong and the moves that the CCP were making. I mean, it seemed, you know, to us, it seems pretty benign, but when you are, you know, tyrants like in Beijing, heaven forbid, free thought, being able to ask a free question, that's very dangerous. Yeah, well, he was an advocate for free speech, which apparently is a heretical idea in a lot of quarters these days.

I don't understand why necessarily, but maybe I get why tyrants and manipulators don't like it so much. But Jimmy also was very pragmatic. He was a businessman at heart, and he was advocating for things that the CCP regime that was supported in Hong Kong was supposed to be for under their basic law. Hong Kong was supposed to be transitioning toward universal suffrage. And so, Jimmy and his friends talking about having the legislative equivalent in Hong Kong move in that direction, talking about the need for further reforms in broader China.

All of that was supposed to be allowed under the umbrella of one country, two systems. And even under that birdcage, they found that what he was advocating was too much. But really, from my point of view, he was actually being somewhat moderate in what he was trying to advocate. And he, of course, never ever advocated violence. Violence.

And that's what he was accused of ultimately. And that's what a lot of the oppressors, manipulators, and commies around the world, even in our own country, try to say: that somehow our verbalization for fundamental freedoms is somehow equivalent to violence or calls of violence. And that's just the BS that they use to lock him up. I've read that this case isn't so much about testing Jimmy Lai or Prosecuting Jimmy Lai, but it really is about prosecuting one of the greatest ideals of the West. Does that track with you?

Well, whatever their intent, I think that's what is the outcome. Because this is a demonstration effect case. It isn't limited to Jimmy. And physically, there are many other defendants. There are currently many political prisoners inside the territory of Hong Kong, which, if you went back 10 to 20 years, even after the PRC taking sovereignty, people would have thought it unthinkable that one of the freest economies on the planet with all these things, institutions built into their culture, would ever be at risk of these kinds of things.

But here we are. And so it's never really been just about Jimmy or just about the Apple Daily as a news outlet. It is the ideas of freedom of religion, freedom of association, freedom of speech, the freedom to organize and petition against your sitting government. And also, of course, the freedom to organize campaigns. They in Hong Kong ended up outlawing and disenfranchising a number of political parties who won local district elections under the notion that somehow those parties didn't follow proper Commune procedure for conducting their party primaries.

And so, this is part of a sadder episode. And really, when it was breaking, it seemed like a really terrible signal to send Taiwan because Taiwan was often promised this same one country, two systems model. And now, of course, a super majority of people in Taiwan say, No, we're not going to play Lucy in the football with this. We're going to go ahead and you can hold that football and we're going somewhere else. Yeah.

And how many people, we're talking with our friend Stephen Yates. How many people are looking at this thinking, okay, that's Jimmy Lai that they went after? If they can go after Jimmy Lai, they can go after anybody. I mean, he's one of the most successful, one of the smartest people that they've targeted.

Well, yes and no. The yes part is, of course, that's the rational reaction, anyone with real money at stake. Who has taken any risk by deigning to talk to, say, an American official from time to time, even if it's just innocuous visiting? Obviously, the neighborhood nosy people have taken it down in their notebooks to report you. But the no part of it is, Jimmy's cut from a different cloth.

He could afford and had access to go anywhere. He was a British citizen. That should have given him a passport to be able to go anywhere he chose for the most part. He could have moved. He just in his soul.

Felt like he couldn't ask other people to stand up for fundamental freedoms and take risks for them that he wasn't willing to take for himself.

So he personally refused to leave. That is a rare egg in this universe. Most other people would have chosen the safe exit, the cushy life, say, I gave it a try, kind of come up with all kinds of rationalization. I can't say right or wrong, but for me, that's still what puts him in a very short list of humans I will ever have the blessing to share air with of demonstrating real courage and I think a real eye towards deity doing its thing on this earth. I wondered because you what responsibility do you think Britain has, the UK has in this?

Because they essentially were caretakers, for the lack of a better way to put it, of Hong Kong up until 1997, and then they transferred over, for some reason they decided to transfer it back over to Chinese control. And then it's just like it seems they just kind of dusted their hands and walked off. Am I interpreting that incorrectly? Am I missing something? I just, where are they at in this?

Well, there's a couple of parts of that. I mean, number one, you're not wrong. This is probably one of the bigger errors in Margaret Thatcher's legacy, someone I have immense respect for, consider her among Reagan and John Paul II to be the most consequential historical figures of the last century and basically beginning the end of the Cold War.

So I take nothing away from that, but this is one of those episodes where I think Great Britain made concessions it didn't need to make and set in motion compromises that would ensnare the people of Hong Kong. They were not just caretakers. There was a word for what Hong Kong used to be, and it was a colony. It's one of those things that a lot of people have disdain for. And this era was very common for centuries prior.

And Britain was one of those that was willingly pulling back from those colonial relations. And they'd engaged in negotiations with the government of China at the time. It was supposed to. To be the pragmatic deng Xiaoping, and we could trust on reform and opening to continue into this. And they made promises that were enshrined in that August United Nations, you know, that protector of all things good in the world.

And so, of course, the PRC reneged on those promises. The UK, where has it been? It may have tried. And I think the last governor of Hong Kong for the UK, Chris Patton, spoke up and tried to be active on this every way he could after he sort of got mugged by reality on this account. But the UK is sort of a setting sun on the world stage with regard to power.

I don't think Beijing cares what the UK thinks or does. And that's why it's really come down to the US. Not to just try to save the world here, but really the US is the only power that Beijing has any fear for. Do you anticipate that POTUS would do anything or maybe make it part of any kind of ongoing negotiations, which we're still kind of mired in as it pertains to tariffs, et cetera, with China? Is that something that he could bring up?

It feels like that would benefit him. If anybody could sell it, I would think he could.

Well, President Trump has raised it with Xi Jinping directly, and others in the administration have advocated for a consideration of some kind of a give-and-take strategy where the PRC might find its way, maybe go over the heads of the Hong Kong Dolts that went down this blind alley. There are options in the world of diplomacy to do things like this.

Some years back, when it was more my job to focus on what was at stake in different summits, even as far back as the first Bush administration and the Clinton administration, it was very common. to have lists of human rights dissidents or key cases where we would advocate for humanitarian release. In exchange for maybe some moves on other accounts. And that's basically the way the deal goes. I mean, we're dealing with evil people that would be willing to put people in jail for reasons we don't agree with, but you have to make those deals to get them out if you're going to make it a priority.

So, President Trump has said that. If, again, if there's rationality in China, it would say something very different about the direction China is going if it was willing to act in this way.

So, I don't give it high odds of success, but for Jimmy's sake and for the signal it would send, I consider it worthy of the president to try to put that in play. And I would certainly celebrate if Jimmy and the other prisoners might be able to find a way to live outside of Hong Kong in peace and freedom. That would be that. That would be the preferred outcome, obviously. We'll see how it goes.

But just, yeah, just rough, rough news on a Monday for that. And we're praying for the live family as well. I know his son has been out there advocating on his behalf and doing a great job as well. But yeah, unfortunate indeed.

Now It's a rifle. But They won't say it. They're just like, no, it's and they said it repeatedly, it's a long rifle style gun.
