The originator of eternity, Jesus Christ, is the source of life and the only one who can bring eternal peace to humanity. His first coming brought peace to man with God, but his second coming will bring global peace and judgment, establishing his eternal kingdom with justice and accountability.

It's not saying that Jesus is the Father, but He is the originator, the originator of eternity, as I just read those two verses from John 1 verse 3 and Colossians 1 16. So if you want anything eternal, you must get it from Jesus Christ. This is how the Father has ordained it. There are many more verses that just continue to back this up and clarify it.

He is the source of eternity. This is Cross-Reference Radio with our pastor and teacher Rick Gaston. Rick is the pastor of Calvary Chapel Mechanicsville. Pastor Rick is currently teaching through the book of Isaiah.

Please stay with us after today's message to hear more information about Cross-Reference Radio, specifically how you can get a free copy of this teaching. And now here's Pastor Rick with his continuing message called an Astounding Prophecy in Isaiah chapter 9. The first and second coming of the Lord wonderfully blended together in Isaiah 9 6, and I haven't read 7 yet, but 7 has to do with the future. So staying here with verse 6, for unto us a child is born. That's his humanity, the Christmas story, the virgin birth, Emmanuel, God with us. Matthew chapter 1, so all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, that is Isaiah, saying, behold the virgin shall be with child and bear a son and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which is translated God with us. Unto us the child is born, God with us. He says unto us a son is given, this speaks of his deity. God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son.

Well that's not random. When Christ spoke that he knew about Isaiah 6, he authored it. He's the author and finisher of our faith, not only the church but the Old Testament saints also. God so loved the world he gave his only begotten son. There's no other that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life.

Well it's about salvation of sinners, the light that has come, that we opened up with, that things were going to get brighter for humanity. God has always got his eyes on sin and eternity and the solutions and if we could stay that way, if we could keep our eyes on those two things more often, we'd stay out of a lot of arguments that are just waste of time. Paul warns you know those who argue about endless genealogies, eating meat and see these holidays, they want to argue, let them argue it. Paul says we have bigger fish to fry than that.

He says then the government will be upon his shoulder. Well that's future because he's not ruling yet, not the world as he's sovereign but he is not boots on the ground that that's going to come, his second coming. And here is why, one reason why, the Jews and the disciples thought that he would restore the kingdom. Well the Jews were like well if you're a messiah then how come the Romans are still ruling over us because they didn't understand the two comings of Christ of their Messiah. The disciples on the other hand after his resurrection, well it's time now right? Acts chapter 1, therefore when they had come together they asked him saying Lord will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel. Well Luke 24 verse 21 on the road to Emmaus, them speaking to the risen Christ, not even knowing it's him, but we were hoping that it was he who was going to redeem Israel indeed besides all this today is the third day since these things happened. He's going to redeem all Israel because you know the millennial reign, the temple of Ezekiel be put up. So again they did not factor in the cross of Christ and then the kingdom of Christ and then he says and his name will be called wonderful. Name is nature in the scriptures and the nature of Christ is that he is wonderful.

In the book of Judges when the angel of the Lord appeared to Manoah the father of Samson, we read this in chapter 13 of Judges and the angel of Yahweh said to him why do you ask my name seeing it is wonderful? It's a declaration. It's like I am amazing.

It's true. It's not bragging if it's true in this context at all and I just I love that little you know it's just put in the middle of Judges like that and then it shows up. It flashes out to us from Isaiah.

You just can't make this stuff up. Isaiah 25 oh Yahweh you are my God. I will exalt you. I will praise your name for you have done wonderful things. Your counsels of old are faithfulness and true.

This is poetry. Well he's also called here the counselor. A lot of people want counsel and sometimes we do need counsel but not not like it's being abused I fear by so many today who fail to see that the Holy Spirit is our counselor.

Christ is our counselor and they're not divided because he guides us into all truth. He guides us into the life we are to live before God and men with men. Isaiah 48 verse 17 thus says Yahweh your Redeemer the Holy One of Israel. I am the Lord your God. I am Yahweh your God who teaches you to profit who leads you by the way you should go.

Well there's counsel in that. Isaiah 28 verse 29. You see how much Isaiah has to say about Messiah? He is the messianic prophet by far. He says this also comes from Yahweh of hosts who is wonderful in counsel and excellent in guidance. So he is wonderful that's all by itself. He is the counselor that's all by itself. He is a wonderful counselor that just takes both of them and blends them together and no one's got God like this. Can you imagine the Greeks having something like this?

No one has anything like this and it's just quite amazing. Anyway and then you add to that as you read these things the movement of the Spirit of God in your heart as you're reading them opening it up to you helping you to receive it. Isaiah 11 verse 2 the Spirit of Yahweh shall rest upon him the Spirit of wisdom and understanding the Spirit of counsel and might the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of Yahweh which is we see this when he walks in Galilee when he when he enters into public ministry no one ever spoke like this you know they sent them to arrest him and we couldn't arrest him he just discernment was so incredible he should have been there. Can you imagine how people would turn on on Christ who harmed no one and could have wiped out everyone?

I could call 12 legions in fact I don't even need the legions. Well mighty God well that eliminates a lot of people does it not. The mighty God eliminates those who cannot match the signs and wonders from Cana turning the water into wine which displayed his creative powers as a source of life when Jesus said I am the bread of life I'm the source of life and it's said in different ways from different angles so if you want to debate it you lose on each one. Well mighty God from Cana to the empty tomb if you can do that then maybe we can talk but you can't. To see Jesus as God because to see Jesus is to see God. Philip said show us the Father and it will suffice and Jesus said have you been with you so long?

He who has seen me has seen the Father. Now we're gonna have to open that up a little bit more but this is a good point to say Jesus had to be who he was in order to do what he did. You can't have a sinner come you could not have a created being take your sin away.

It would take God when you do that now looking at the record looking at everything it's like you know it's like God says you know if you want to do something right you got to do it yourself. First Timothy chapter 3 without controversy now of course the naysayers was I have a controversy it's like well I'm talking to you. Without controversy great is the mystery of godliness God was manifested in the flesh the Son is given. He continues justified in the Spirit no you just can't have you have no charges against the Christ seen by angels preached among the Gentiles believed on in the world received up in glory. This given Son is Emmanuel God with us the mighty God. Now we get to Isaiah 10 we read the remnant will return the remnant of Jacob to the mighty God. Now that's talking about Yahweh so is this the same person the everlasting father this actually is the easier one than what you might suspect because a better rendering from the Hebrew is the father of eternity. Jesus said this all well John said this about Jesus John chapter 1 all things were made through him and without him nothing was made that was made. You could be three years old and understand that well smart three-year-old I don't I don't know what a three-year-old knows but you could be a child and you can understand that he is the source of life that's what this would when it says father of eternity the Jews are they're going in a different direction with this one more from Colossians and there are three of these and one in John Colossians and Hebrews I'll just take Colossians chapter 1 for by him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth that doesn't leave anywhere else that's physical and spiritual visible and invisible whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers all things were created through him and for him. See this is why the Jehovah's Witnesses are in their guilt and the Mormons you know they're gonna believe the guy that had these sunglasses on and could see things they actually believe that I think Brigham Young actually taught there were people on the sun that should get a chuckle anyway you know again goes back to once you reject the clear word of God and start taking man's word and over it you believe the kookiest things everlasting father does not suggest that the son is the father although they are one each person in the Godhead is distinct we do not worship three gods we have one God with three distinct personalities four corners three four corners four corners of a triangle three corners of a triangle so among the Jews when you spoke of the father you were speaking of the originator the source so in John for example chapter eight when Jesus said you are of your father the devil he said that he is the father of lies the originator of lies lies began with Satan and so this context in the Jewish literature and mind is not saying that Jesus is the father but he is the originator the originator of eternity as I just read those two verses from John 1 verse 3 in Colossians 1 16 so if you want anything eternal you must get it from Jesus Christ this is how the father has ordained it many more verses that just continue to back this up and clarify it he is the source of eternity that's why he is the son eternal eternity past eternity forward not to be confounded with the father though he and the father are one John's gospel chapter 10 verse 30 I and the father I and the father are one so the prince of peace is next well at his first coming he only brought peace to man with God Paul boasts about that in Romans we have peace with God Romans 5 Luke writes that at his coming the angels announced this glory to God in the highest and on earth peace goodwill toward men this coming from God these are angels are messengers of God and they're coming in and say this is the coming of this child is a message of peace to mankind of course not the physical piece that will come later first John chapter 3 for this purpose the son of God was manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil okay he did that but now there's combat between the devil and all of his surrounding influences and the people of God Matthew 10 34 Jesus said do not think I came to bring peace on earth I did not come to bring peace but a sword now he's talking about his first coming when he comes a second time he's also going to bring a sword but then it's going to be down to peace and we go back to the earlier verses of chapter 9 where he talked about the sandals of soldiers being you know thrown into the fire no more weapons of war is the the idea at his second coming there will be global peace Isaiah 2 verse 4 he shall judge between the nations and rebuke many people they shall beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks nations shall not lift up sword against nation neither shall they learn war anymore even if you know all these things it's still amazing to hear it at least it is to me I mean in preparing this this is the best part just talking about Jesus Alexander the great Genghis Khan the Caesars Napoleon's all these guys wanted to bring the world under their control and and have their vision of peace and today because you can go anywhere in the world there's this idea of globalization the thing gonna work you still have sinners you're still stuck with with with evil people these men failed and globalization under Antichrist will not work only the Prince of Peace will bring world peace but not yet right now it's a sword and 9 verse not verse 7 now now here he is going future again and of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end upon the throne of David and over his kingdom to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward even forever the zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this you know after after verse 7 the rest goes back to telling the Jews how they're going to be judged so let's take our time before we get back to that because there's nothing new there it's just a repeat and and again it was meaningful and very meaningful in the days of Isaiah so meaningful now to us as its history of what God did with them but anyway coming back to verse 7 his kingdom is eternal because he is eternal you you know where are you going to be in a hundred years it means everything the purpose of your life is to get to heaven now that includes a lot of other things for example if I'm trying to get to heaven if that's the best thing that can happen to me well it would say something about me if I want to bring others too and it would say something very bad about me if I didn't care about others well you can go to hell I'm going to heaven I mean there's some of that when a person says I don't want to hear it and well you can go to hell if that's your choice I'd rather you not but you know everything about us is going towards heaven that's the life of the believer our concern is how bumpy is the ride going to be I mean how much pain and we could have to suffer emotionally physically or any kind but still that is that's it in a nutshell that eternity that he offers the same eternity that he has going forward he's going to share with us now you either believe that by faith or your faith is dead it's up to you and if you say well I don't really feel it well you know talk to well that's not it trusting it is more important than feeling it but if you're having that struggle you need to tell God about it right out talk to him about it until you get an answer and never let it go I would I would be waiting every morning on his doorstep here I am Lord let's talk about this that that's the you know Jesus did he not say that to the woman that the woman that just wouldn't let the issue go with the judge and he says your father is more eager to respond to you than that judge anyway there is no one this can apply to except the returning Christ you cannot say of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end you can't say even say that about David it replies to and all this verse 9 if Jesus is not the Messiah there will never be one it's too late the prophecies have sealed it it's now impossible to prove your divinic lineage how are you going to do that now Jerusalem's destruction has closed the window Amalekai says he will suddenly come to his temple there is no more temple the next temple that will build be too late there are other parts of the prophecy that left undone the only way you could fulfill so many of the prophecies concerning Christ is to have lived in the days when the temple was there in Jerusalem and you could prove your line to David and as of 70 AD that's all gone if Jesus is not the Messiah then there will never be one the Jews don't want to hear that and you just listen to this crazy things they come up with how they excuse this how they say oh Isaiah 53 is a lamentation over Israel are you kidding me anyway upon the throne of David and over his kingdom to order it and establish it Jesus alone fulfilled the Davidic criteria with judgment and justice now that's accountability without corruption who would feel comfortable going to court for your freedom you know in other words on a criminal charge and you knew you were innocent how comfortable would you be in the hands of the courts I wouldn't be comfortable I would say well there's no way I'm gonna lose I'm innocent you know that not only is it corruption is incompetence it's a system of men you get a lawyer who just you know presents his case better than your lawyer or you get a judge it just doesn't like your face there's a lot of things that can go wrong you go to a court looking for justice Jesus said listen try not to go to court he just says it right out try to settle the issue out of court and of course when it comes to criminal charges we try not to be criminals but it's better it's easier to stay out of trouble than it is to get out of trouble well here with this judgment and justice there will be accountability without corruption and you get that in chapter 11 we get to chapter 11 and we'll go over his rule what I like about chapter 11 when he talks about his as Messiah is that he doesn't he doesn't have to open up with the law books say and the precedents he just simply knows he knows you're guilty I don't I don't care what you said you're guilty I know you are and that's that because I am God no man can do that he'll be able to do that so we get to that in chapter 11 anyway from that time forward even forever well that's largely the message of Gabriel to marry a message of his rule Luke chapter 1 and behold you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a son and should call his name Jesus now when he said that I don't think his tone was harsh or stoic you know like you know a drill instructor just you know forcefully just very gentle because he had the benefit of just the Spirit of God moving through this whole thing where Mary was just like you know clay to receive it just an incredible time anyway because you have to factor in just how she would have been received by Zacharias who was a priest and why did he and Elizabeth view her as the actual you know just so many things the Holy Spirit was doing behind the scenes that are picked up and in the writings a little bit but just much of it is just beyond us anyway Gabriel continues to marry he will be great and he will be called the son of the highest and the Lord God will give him the throne of his father David marries like this mouth opens you know what does she say to this I mean she's just a young girl really what does she know about life at this point and continue with it was anybody at her age know about life right and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever and of his kingdom there will be no end could you imagine it's just incredible Mary is a special person and just a who does not want to interview Mary and so tell me what was it like on his fifth birthday you know anyway we talked about what did you ever get angry with him I think it probably would have been I don't know there's this thing about him we would all feel convicted if we did something wrong and he wouldn't even say anything I don't know just your imagination right everything would be in his favor thanks for tuning in to cross reference radio today cross reference radio is a ministry of
