The acquisition of Greenland by the United States is a topic of discussion, with some arguing it's a matter of national security and access to natural resources, while others claim it's a threat to the sovereignty of the island's 59,000 inhabitants.

The United States is seriously discussing the acquisition of Greenland and the world is washing as allies, Greenleaders, and global powers discuss this icy island. Stay with us as we unpack what's really going on behind the headlines coming up right now on the Theory Today Show. You're listening to Clear View Today with Dr. Abadan Shah, the daily show that engages mind and heart for the gospel of Jesus Christ. I'm Ryan Hill.

I'm John Galantis, and welcome to the Clearview Today Show. We've got some world news we're talking about today, but before we do any of that, I want to introduce our host with the most, Dr. Abadan Shah. If you're listening for the very first time, Dr. Shah is a PhD in New Testament textual criticism, professor at Carolina University, author, full-time pastor, and the host of today's show.

Dr. Shah, welcome. It's good to be here. Welcome to the studio. It's a great conversation today as we talk about what's going on on everybody's minds, the headlines right now.

Greenland. It never stops. First it was Venezuela.

Now it's first, then it was Iran.

Now we're talking about Greenland. Dr. Shah, back in 2019, President Trump floated this crazy idea of the U.S. buying Greenland. And basically, Denmark just laughed it off.

They said it's an absurd proposition. But the thought never really went away, right?

So early 2025, President Trump brings it up again. And this time, people are like, wait a minute. He's serious. He is serious. He really wants to buy this island.

That's right. And so basically, what he's saying is, and correct me if I get any of this wrong, but is if the U.S. doesn't acquire Greenland, Russia and China are going to get it. And with China already controlling a lot of the minerals that are needed for advanced technology, that's a serious threat. Absolutely.

And it's in our backyard.

So it's not just for the resources that these two massive superpowers are, you know, land-grabbing, but they're also wanting to put their bases right behind us. And, you know, we living in 2026 and some of our. Our politicians are like, oh, they're crying these crocodile tears. Oh, my goodness, how can we? We should not be.

Ladies and gentlemen, just to let you know that they are misleading you. When they're talking about Greenland, they're misleading you. I often wonder if some of these people are. Are they not educated on these issues? Are they not aware?

Something else is going on. I fear that it may be something even more insidious than that. Right, right.

So, a lot of people are bringing up the whole idea that Greenland doesn't want to be part of the United States. Greenland, the citizens of Greenland are saying that we're not a nation that's for sale. This is something I think a lot of people don't know: Greenland is a nation that is 80% uninhabited. It's mostly just ice. Like, really, I'm gonna say that's because Greenland itself is misleading.

Right. Green land is mostly frozen. You know, you ever see, um, uh, you know, we did an interview with Butch Hartman, who did the Fairly Odd Parents, and they had that joke: it's not green and there's no land. What's up with that?

Well, the Vikings, you know, when they were moving out, they wanted to establish and put like an outpost there.

So they sent word back saying, Man, this is a green land. Come on. And it was like fake marketing. Yeah, yeah. This was the case of the original bait and switch.

Mentioned the Vikings. And so many of the Vikings came and they're like, what? This is wrong. No vaxies. Yeah, and so that's how Greenland got its name.

It was just a way to attract. You know, people from back home. That's a good idea. It was a funny.

So, the very name Greenland is a phony advertising. Absolutely. 80% of it. From a thousand years ago. Yeah, 80% of it is like 50 degrees below silver.

Like, humans cannot live there. Yeah, that's like negative 58 degrees Fahrenheit. Yeah, that's 90 below freezing. Let's you walk outside and get frozen. Right.

You get frostbite in like a minute.

So the people who do live there, there's maybe about 59,000 people on the entire island. For context, our home county of Vance County is about 39,000.

So it's a little more than like a single county of people. Yeah, but just keep in mind, area-wise, it's not, it's much, much larger than our little county. It's a massive island, it's the largest island. Right. In the world.

Large side. In the whole world. But this tiny, tiny, tiny population. I mean, genuinely, it's a tiny population of people. But we're saying that, I mean, or people are saying, oh, this is a sovereign nation.

You can't do this. But really, we're talking a very minuscule amount of people, some of which actually support the acquisition. Right. And you're talking about when we say the size of this island, it's 836,000 square miles. And that would be three times bigger than Texas.

That's huge. Right. That's huge. But 59,000 people. Right.

But it's, but it is extremely valuable for its resources, right? Yeah, one quarter the size of the United States. Yeah. And so I'm not talking about like Alaska included. No, just just the continental US.

Uh it's one quarter our size. Right. With 59,000 people sitting there. And I know there's got to be some bleeding heart out there that's saying it's like, well, you still can't take it from. No, you need to study.

And I'm not an expert on Greenland. I'm not an expert on all their history. But it's more to it than what people are making it out to be. Three times the size of Texas, folks. And that is insane.

Mass. Look at that. I mean That's insane. It takes up most of Texas. Three Texases.

If I can say that way, make up one Greenland. And only 59,000 people. Are you going to hold that place hostage, and Denmark is going to tell us that you cannot have it because of these 59.

So here's what I suggest: give them, I don't know, half of North Carolina. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. You can have that. Go ahead and have it.

Which, I mean, even that is a lot, right? Our county has, what, 40,000, 45,000 people. We're not even talking about we're going to come in with the troops and take it. We'll buy it from you. We're willing to purchase all of this and give you even more or give you like way more than you have right now.

I mean, what bothers me is that this hasn't happened already. I know. Yeah. This is like a no-brainer, exactly. Yeah, why did we not do this before?

And it's in our backyard.

Look at what's on your screen right now. Imagine a single North Carolina county. There's got to be, there are definitely counties in North Carolina more than 50,000 people or 59,000 people. Imagine a single county in North Carolina saying, all of this is ours. Nobody else is getting any of these resources.

Now sit there and watch while we sell it to China and to Russia. Right. 59,000 people. That's it. Yeah.

And Denmark is telling us that you cannot have it because this is a country. Why don't y'all all move there? Yeah. Right. Yeah.

Why are you still in Denmark? Yeah, and even then, just like.

Well, why don't you take those 59,000 people and move them to Denmark? Just like the illustration you gave earlier. Sure, let's play that game. It's yours legally, it's yours, whatever. But to think that we're going to sit and watch you sell it to China?

Absolutely not. Which is a national security threat to us. No, this. But when when you do your research, it it just makes you wonder like Thank you, President Trump, because while we were asleep and goofing off, at least you had the sense enough to know that this needs to be done. There's only 59,000 people there.

I think what you just said is so important for people to remember, too, especially in the world that we're living in right now, with all of the news and media outlets that are vying for your attention. You're not being told the whole story. Exactly. This is majority land. Right.

Majority. But we're turning it into a people issue. Yeah. When it's not really a people. But isn't that what liberals do all the time?

Yeah. You know, they would always make it look like, but no, these are th th this is this issue, but the whole time there's something else happening on the side. And so that's their way to make it look like, man, this America is just no different than Nazi Germany trying to take over the world. No, that's not what's happening here, right? What's happening here are Superpowers like Russia and China they're trying to acquire and not acquire like we're going to pay for this.

No, they're trying to take over. this takeover Greenland. And they're doing whatever they can to do that because they're going to have resources. Let's talk about resources. It has ninety billion barrels of oil 90 billion barrels of oil.

It has 1700 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. I'll be honest with you, I don't even know what that means. I I get the barrel part. I don't know what 1700 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. 1700 trillion.

is a crazy number. Yeah. And a lot of rare medals and stuff like that as well. And I guess what what we're trying to say is, if we do nothing, if the United States does nothing, China and Russia are going to it. Absolutely.

It's happening. And they will do it through Europe. They will do it through Denmark. And Europeans, I hate to say it, they will. Definitely sell it.

Of course, they'll give it.

Now, President Trump is willing to spend $700 billion, whatever, but he said, Man, that's still a great deal. We can do a lot more with that. But of course, Denmark is not. Do you really think they will stand there for the sovereignty of the people of Greenland? No, of course not.

I think it's worth noting that the people, the superpowers that are vying for Greenland, President Trump and America are willing to pay for it while these other superpowers will take it. Maybe they'll pay for it, but it will be subverted under the table. 100%. I mean, they will take it by force. Absolutely.

Yeah. When the United States says that this is a matter of global stability and defense, I mean, we're really not joking around because all of those resources in China or Russia's hands is not good for the world. And we've seen that. Yeah, there is the issue of resources, but there's also the issue of national security because if they take over this island, which they will, they will, unless President Trump does something. China and Russia will definitely advance in that direction.

Absolutely, they will. Russia Putin has been eyeing that place for a long time, and he wants it.

Okay, again, Americans are probably the least politically. Educated people in the world. And I'm not saying that in a denigrating way. I'm just saying because. We are so trusting.

We are so trusting of media. We are so trusting, and the world laughs at us. Look at these Americans. They bought into it. There you go.

And and we get taken advantage of all the time. And maybe that's what makes us great, that we are so innocent and we're so kind and gentle. But here's the problem. In the process, Americans suffer, and we have been suffering for a long time. We have been suffering with regards to jobs.

So Thank God, for once we have a president who is fighting for Americans. You're right. We're trying to diminish the, what do you call it, the dependence that. everybody has on China. For all of their goods.

It was funny because the Danish prime minister said that if the United States annexes Greenland, it would effectively end NATO. And I'm wondering. I'm wondering: is that a bad thing? End it. Please end it.

North Atlantic trade, what is it? Treaty organization. Treaty organization. Yeah. Whatever.

America has been paying into that a whole lot more and President Trump in his first term said it's time that Europeans start paying their fair share.

So, wait a minute, wait a minute, wait a minute. All of a sudden, these people have become the fighters of liberty in the world? Wait. Um you don't even pay your fair share in the NATO. And you rely on American troops and American weaponry to come and protect you?

But we pay the most? And then the moment President Trump said, I think we're going to annex. Oh, wait, wait, whoa, whoa, nope, nope, nope, nope. You can't do that. But it's funny because this is far from the first time that a nation has done this.

It's far from the first time that America has done this. Like America annexed Hawaii. Nobody's upset about that. We annexed Alaska through its purchase. We annexed Puerto Rico.

We annexed Guam. We annexed American Samoa. We annexed the Virgin Islands. Nobody today is outraged.

So let's say, let's just say that the purchase goes through or we annex Greenland. In 20, 30 years, everybody's going to be happier that we did it. Seriously, who's outraged about the U.S. Virgin Islands or about Hawaii? By the way, the ones who will be the happiest?

Would probably the people, the 70s, Greenland, the 50s, 90,000. And Greenland would be very happy. That's what I was going to say: is like, look at the trajectory of America and Russia and China. What country has the most people trying to get into that country? Absolutely.

Yep. Do you think they'll be benefited with living under Chinese authority? Do you think they'll be benefited living under Russian authority? Or even Denmark. I mean, Denmark, you know, it's a strange agreement they have where Denmark controls the economy of Greenland.

Right. You know, it's kinda funny. They're talking about although you cannot you cannot take over a a sovereign nation.

Well, you control their economy. Yeah. They're not a sovereign nation. You give, what, fifty billion a year or something like that, I think it is at the most. I mean, that's nothing.

Yeah. That's nothing. and and you control their economy, you give them some self-rule. But here comes a president who says, No, you know what? Here's what we're going to do.

We're going to annex it. Make it another stra state or a union territory or whatever. And, um, Uh we're gonna give them all the benefits and privileges that come with being an American? And there we go. And they will be infinitely better for it.

Oh, 100%. Let me ask you this, Dr. Shock, because you think about all the things, all of the states and all of the territories that we have today: Alaska, Louisiana, Virgin Islands, Texas, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam, all these things that, and you will have some bleeding heart liberals who say, no, no, no, it was wrong then, too. But genuinely, the majority of American citizens and the majority of the world does not, you know, they're not outraged about that. How do you frame it to people today without just saying, hey guys, chill out.

It's going to be okay. It's always worked this way. How do you frame it without saying it that way?

Well, I would say go educate yourself on the geopolitical issues. Go educate yourself. To understand what Europeans, the master of, you know, How do you say this? Like, they're not giving you the whole truth. Right.

Educate yourself on these issues, educate yourself on what's happening there. And then understand why President Trump is not crazy. For wanting to buy it. By the way, another president, President Truman, tried to do the same thing. Try to buy Denmark I mean uh Greenland, yeah.

Yeah, he did. And um and and of course It didn't work out at the time, but I think it's time that we did. What was the And if this is a rabbit trail, we can go a different direction. What was the response when President Truman tried to buy? Greenland.

Well, I mean, the general American news. Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I would say that it probably didn't. I mean, I didn't know about it. I would say it was pretty unremarkable because people weren't super.

I guarantee you, if it was a different president, this would be a non-issue. That was my question. Is this that much of an issue by itself, or is this another witch hunt for President Trump? I haven't heard a single person. On the news, online, on Twitter, I haven't heard a single person bring up that President Truman tried to do the same thing, probably because they don't care.

Yeah. They don't really care. Under President Truman, it was during the Cold War. It was kind of a secret way to do it, but then sort of got forgotten and life moved on. We had other problems to deal with.

So it never really materialized. Yeah, yeah. But President Trump has always had his eye on that. He's like, man, we need to go back to that deal. We need to go back to that deal.

Let's make the deal. Let's do this. And so he's brought it up again. But we're living in a world, in an environment, where anything like that is quickly framed as, oh, you are. You are such an aggressive Dictator who wants to take over the whole world.

No, he is fighting for Americans. He's helping he's putting America first. He is trying to give us more natural resources. Right? He's trying to uh protect us.

From evil forces that wanna get sit in our backyard.

Okay?

So uh Educate yourself. It's what I would tell people. Yeah. I think the saddest thing to me is sitting here and thinking about people being upset that President Trump is doing all of these things when it's become so unusual to have a president that puts America first. That's, I think, one of the most heartbreaking things to me is that this sort of behavior from a president is so foreign to us, those of us who are growing up right now.

I mean, in my lifetime, in my generation, it's so foreign to us. It's so bizarre to have a president that. Puts America first and is aggressively pursuing American interest. Right. That it comes across as, oh, he's just trying to grab power.

Well, I also think it's like. Matt, like what Dr. Shuss said, where the people who will be happiest with this ultimately are the people of Greenland. Of course. Like, think about the U.S.

population as almost 350 million. And if the resources that the United States is using from Greenland can take care of 350 million people in the United States, don't you think the population of a single North Carolina county that's still living in Greenland will be fine? Absolutely. Like, it's not like we're taking these resources and now this little tiny population. Like the 60,000, 70,000 people, 59,000.

59,000 people are going to work for us now. Like, they're going to be our slaves. What are we going to get out of that? Yeah, like, they're going to be fine. In fact, they will be way better.

Very better. Yeah. Yeah. And it doesn't. And, like, again, it's one of those leftist liberal talking points where it's like, well, they're not going to be happy about it.

It's like, okay, they might be a little upset for a while, but I guarantee you, as soon as life starts to improve, they will be fine. It's happened all throughout American history, and it's turned out for the better of the entire world. Yeah, and of course, it'll bring jobs there because naturally. Resources would be mined. It will bring opportunities for the people there.

It will help in many other ways. And so, by the way, the suicide rate in Greenland is the highest in the world. That's crazy.

Now it's because of addictions. Yeah, yeah. But suicide rate in Greenland is the highest in the world. Wow.

Now, there may be other reasons for that, but that should be enough for us to say this is not the happiest population going on.

Something, right? And they will be infinitely better. Think about it, just even from a religious standpoint, if most of the people there identify as Protestant, if they're under Chinese authority, do you think that they're going to have that religious freedom? Oh, or Russian. Or Russian.

Exactly. They will be able to have that religious freedom under American authority. What do you think are the chances that Denmark would. Like, shut this deal down and put a stop to like American annexation because they already plan to sell Denmark to China or Russia to stop America. Right, right.

That's what I meant.

Sorry. I don't think we can sit here and wait for Denmark to come to the table and sign this deal. It's not going to happen that way. They're not going to want that. They don't want.

See, Americans need to wake up and realize the world loves America for what we give to them. But they hardly give anything back to us. In a sense, I'm okay with that. It's like fine, fine, whatever. But then don't stop us when there is an equal opportunity situation.

Like I'm coming to an auction market. You don't want to do business with me.

Okay, I get it. But you want me To give you money.

Okay, I get that too. But I want to come to this auction here because I'm going to purchase something here. But you're saying, wait, wait. Nope. You're not.

invited to this auction. That's what's happening here.

So, Greenland is not for sale. That's the slogan. That's sort of a big fat lie. It's a big fat. Because Greenland is certainly for sale.

To the right purchase. To the right buy. Right. It's not even like the right price. It's really, we don't want Americans to have it.

Greenland is not for sale to America. Right. That's the issue. That's the sentiment. I think that's probably the best part of the show right now.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That statement. And Greenland is not for sale to America. Anybody else? You want it?

Yeah. Yeah. Okay. I'll go for it. It'd be the title.

Would you like our land of 58 degrees below zero? That's our clickbait title: Green Is Not For Sale, dot, dot, dot, to a. Hey, look, if you go and look at the title of the show, you'll see I was right. You know why? Because I titled the episode.

There you go. No, but seriously, Dr. Shaw, if there's Christians listening to this right now and they're saying, okay, I guess I'm sort of on board, but what do I do? How do I frame this? How do I talk to people about this?

How do I convince people that this is going to be a good thing for the world? Right. Stop listening to media. Mm-hmm. Stop getting your information from social media.

Do your own research. Find out. What do you know about Greenland? Before you listen to Tom Tillis or whoever, what do you know about Greenland? Is it part of the European Union?

I thought it was. No, it's not. It's an associate of Denmark.

So it's like a to the back door they wouldn't even let let Greenland be part of the European Union. Yeah. So why? Because it's it's in the North American continent.

So educate yourself on these issues and let then find out what is the history, what has happened there, how did the Europeans approach Americans to please put your base here? Did you know that? Europeans asked Americans to put their base here before World War II so that we can save their behinds from the Nazi invasion. Not only did they do that, there's also a treaty that says you can expand this base as much as you want, and please do. Yes, that treaty is still in effect, by the way.

Right. Yeah. The United States military has a presence in Greenland and has forgotten.

So, our men in uniform, because of men and women now, died. died in Europe Europe fighting for the freedom of the people there. But the moment we said, okay, so this is going to help our people. Oh, absolutely not. We're going to send our fifty boys.

From our various countries to show up that we are standing with the Greenlanders. Yeah. Come on, give me a break. Yeah. I just made sure I was correct.

The 1951 Defense of Greenland Agreement is it says, hey, please, please, please have a strong military presence here. We need you here. Right. Isn't that funny? Yes.

Please, please, please, we need your help. But, oh, you can't have this. Yeah. Yeah. And now, like, from what was it, France and Germany and Norway and Denmark, those military people are showing up there to stand for the sovereignty of.

of Greenland. Come on. You know, when Putin comes knocking down your door, don't come to America. I was just about to say that. I was like, what is going to happen when the Russian forces show up or when the Chinese forces show up?

Yeah. Those military forces. We stand with the people of Greenland. Are you still going to be there? I doubt it.

This is sort of an aside, but after we did the episode on Venezuela, I went on. I have not been on Reddit for several months, but I went on Reddit to see what some of the people were saying. And they were taking Putin's comments, and somebody said in the comments, I know good and well, Putin's not saying anything about a foreign nation invading anybody. I know he, but I know you. You have absolutely zero room.

I know you ain't got something to say. 100%. No, but I do agree with you. And I think a lot of people. Who are listening to this probably have never even thought about this before?

It's only, and we said this on the uh in the Iran episode that aired last week. Is that this is the first time you're hearing it, and the leftist media is telling you what to think? Yeah, and and we're not telling you what to think, we're telling you, hey, go read on it, yeah, go figure it out. We're simply saying, get the whole story, get the whole picture, because you're not being given that for the agree with anything you heard today, go read it, go read it exactly and do an objective research. Yeah, don't just find Your favorite news outlet, and say, Well, I'm going to listen to CNN.

No, they're going to give you a very biased. View. Do your own research. Find out about the history of Greenland. Find out about NATO.

Find out about how much America, your tax dollars have gone over there.

Okay, find out all this information and then you may decide. That's right. Then you objectively sit back and say, huh. Didn't know that. And if you still, and seriously, and I'm not joking around, if you still don't agree with this, then you're going to have to start logically walking a lot of stuff backwards.

You got to give Hawaii back. You got to give Alaska back. You got to give Louisiana back. We're going back to the original 13 colleges. You know what I mean?

Like, this is, this is, well, anyway, it's, it's, we've already made that point. Dr. Sha, any final thoughts for our audience?

Well, I'm praying for our nation. I'm praying for President Trump. I'm praying that our. Our elected officials all over, especially in our capital, will Stand with our president and be honest, be objective. and try to help Americans.

Our economy needs help. And I mean, just I mean, think about it. $500 million worth of oil was sold from Venezuela. I mean, it's coming back to help us.

So, I mean, it's helping our people. You said, but that's taken away from other people. That person was selling drugs, sending drugs into America with. Hundreds of thousands of our young people were killed by taking these drugs coming out of Venezuela. Aren't you happy for once that?

Good money's gonna come to us? Yes. Jobs will come to us. The economy will improve. Would you prefer that instead of drugs?

Thank you. Good things are happening.

So, you know. Start educating yourself. Start praying. As Christians, start praying for our nation. Start praying for our president.

And. I'm very hopeful for the days ahead. I think good things are coming, and this is. going to be Tough for some people to swallow, but I hope in time they will see. That is a good decision.

That's right. Yeah. That's right. So important for us. And we hope this encourages you, like we said on the show, go home and educate yourself.
