Blaise Misztal, Vice President for Policy at the Jewish Institute for National Security of America (JINSA), joins Brian Kilmeade to break down the escalating security crisis in the Red Sea. They detail how Iranian proxies—including the Houthis and Iraqi militias—are attempting to choke off global oil shipping lanes, why re-flagging commercial tankers under the American flag could dismantle the blockade, and why military deterrence remains vital to confronting Tehran. How many years have we spent listening to politicians in Washington argue about how to make healthcare insurance more affordable? Obamacare was supposed to fix it. Then we needed bigger government subsidies to make Obamacare affordable. Those subsidies expired. And guess what?

It's a nonprofit, Christian healthcare sharing organization. And their members pay up to 60% less than they would for Obamacare. You still get access to a nationwide PPO network and over a million physicians plus unlimited telehealth.

Blaise Mistau is an extremely important person to talk to right now. He's the VP for policy at the Jewish Institute for the National Security of America. First off, Blaise, how do you feel about where things are at right now? It seems like the Houthis are complicating things up big time while trying to say we are not an enemy of America. Yeah, it's good to be with you, and I think that's exactly right.

Look, we knew that when President Trump shifted to this economic pressure campaign on Iran, trying to strangle their exports through his blockade, trying to put sanctions on them to strangle their ability to get oil or other goods out by other means to earn revenue in any other way, we knew that Iran wasn't going to take that lying down. And I think we're seeing that response now. And I think it's important to note that it's actually not just the Houthis. We have seen the Houthis advance in Yemen. We have seen them be able to now control the Babel Mandeb, that critical waterway that goes out of the Red Sea.

But it's also other Iranian proxies that are standing up, including the Iraqi militias who are the ones that have fired on that east-west pipeline that we just heard about and have shut that down. And so we're seeing Iran shift from direct Iranian attacks.

Now activating its proxies, trying to show we may be down, but we're not out. We still have our terror network. We still have ways to hurt you. And they've taken what was a battle for the Strait of Hormuz and they shifted that center of gravity to say, well, now we have two critical choke points that we can try to restrict, both in the Strait of Hormuz and in the Red Sea.

So this is definitely them looking for a way to break out from the U.S., stranglehold on their economy. And I think what we're looking at is really two economic games of chicken happening on critical waterways. Who can inflict the most economic pain on whom? Who's going to make the other side back down and flinch first?

So Iran is trying to use land passages and having almost no success, according to the Wall Street Journal. Hundreds of trucks are stuck at the Pakistan border, Turkmenistan border, the Turkey border, Afghanistan.

So that's not working.

So the blockade is working. Yeah, dozens of shits have been turned back, and there's no doubt about it. It's still dangerous, but we're making the moves. It's costing us money to do it.

Now I understand too, the so called Shia coordination framework in Iraq is now combining to try to disarm the militias, the Iranian militias in Iraq. Interesting. Also, the fact that the Houthis are trying to keep us At bay. Why are they even interested in that when there was clearly we're an enemy and they're an enemy of Israel? They're trying to say Israel can pass through and you can pass through.

I look to that as a tactic that should be ignored. Do you? Yeah, that's absolutely right. The issue is not American ships. The issue is not Israeli ships passing through the Red Sea.

It's Saudi ships carrying Saudi oil. And that's precisely who the Houthis say are going to target. And so if they're targeting the most valuable cargo going through that waterway, it doesn't matter who else they can say will pass. They are targeting what causes the most pain. And so what I say to that is let's test that proposition.

If they say they're not going to fire on U.S. ships, let's reflag tankers. Let's put American flags on those tankers and try to get the oil out on American ships. And see, are they going to fire then? Are they going to try to mess around with the United States?

Are they going to mess around with Israel? Because they've seen what we can do. We pounded them for 53 days two years ago. Israel went in last year and took out layers of their top leadership with the intelligence and precision strike that only Israel can do. And they know that, and they fear that, and we should be exploiting that to try to get oil out any way we can.

So having said that, the way to really amp this up would be get the IDF back involved. Their intelligence is without peer. They understand what's going on there. And we can start taking out more layers of the Iranian leadership What would it take for you to support something like that, or do you are you there now? Yeah, I think that the only way we're going to get.

Through this is with a resumption of military activity against Iran. As I said, the blockade, the sanctions, they're great. They're inflicting pain on the regime, but they are going to take time to work, and Iran is going to try to escalate against us to break through those like they're doing right now. And so we have to be able to do two things simultaneously. Or even three.

We have to keep the pressure on economically. We need the blockade. We need the sanctions. But we need to buy them time to work. And to do that, we need to take away Iran's ability to escalate.

We need to take away their ability to hurt Oil production and oil shipping throughout the Middle East. And we have to keep an eye on their nuclear program. And that means going back in and striking when we have to. And I think the United States can do that. Israel can do that just as well.

And we know that Iran, it's doing a lot around the region. It's hitting tankers. It's hitting Jordan. It's hitting Saudi. But it's not hitting Israel.

Why? Because it fears Israel. How do we get Iran to back off? We unleash what they fear most. We unleash the Israelis and show them that we're taking the gloves off and we're going to keep the pressure on and we're going to keep going at them until they relent or better yet, until this regime collapses.

How many years have we spent listening to politicians in Washington argue about how to make health care insurance more affordable? Obamacare was supposed to fix it. Then we needed bigger government subsidies to make Obamacare affordable. Those subsidies expired. And guess what?

People are paying more again at some point. Maybe the question isn't: how do we keep Fixing the same system. Maybe the question is: what else is out there? Uh do you believe The story the Wall Street Journal had. that President Preskyan was all excited about the MOU. Wanted he knew was the best deal of a lifetime, I think it was a terrible deal for America, but oil was dropping. They were able to get some sanctions relief temporarily. And all of a sudden the IRGC starts opening up on some ships, some tankers.

He called up Fahidi, who's in charge of the RIGC, and said, What are you doing? And he said, It's not me. I did not give the order.

So they have this play by play of events.

Now I know about the good cop, bad cop, and I agree with you. They one likes to seem rational and then the other one acts irrational, but yet they're on the same team. Do you believe that? Do you believe this story, being that we did kill the Ayatollah and all around him and wipe out a couple of layers of leadership? Um with the Israelis.

Look, I believe that two things can be true at the same time. I think it is entirely true that there is a coordination and command problem inside the Iranian regime. No one fully knows who is in charge. No one fully knows who has what authorities. And because everything is now wide open, you have all this jockeying for power.

Within the system, you have all these people who have been let back in, who had been fired from their positions previously, or had been ousted, or had been sidelined, who have political axes to grind, and they're all competing with one another and pursuing their own agendas and have their knives out for each other.

So there's this huge turmoil within the regime that is leading to, I think, bad decision making. And maybe that is what happened in this one case of firing on these tankers. That being said, I believe that the narrative that is being sold around that, which is that you have this moderate, reasonable diplomatic element that's fighting the hardliners. Is the same narrative that is being sold to the American people ever since the JCPOA ten years ago? And that part I do not believe at all.

Now, I hear you. And I guess we'll see where that goes. What effect is all this having on the elections in Israel that you know of? Yeah, look, I think For Israel that's still reeling from the October 7th attacks, that still feels that it's under threat. Mm.

By the Iranian regime, by its terror proxies. Security is one of the fundamental issues that everyone is voting on, and everyone agrees on. that Israel will not be safe as long as this regime is in power. And I think that you're going to see whoever wins in Israel, whatever the next government looks like, continued major political and public support for taking the fight to Iran until the threat is gone. Do you think Netanyahu the word is Netanyahu not favored to win again?

Look, Netanyahu has been Israel's longest serving prime minister. Even when he's counted out, he comes back in, like we saw five years ago, where Israel went through four rounds of elections, couldn't pick a prime minister, elected a different government briefly. That collapsed and Bibi came back in. He's a political survivor, and I think counting him out is always dangerous. He's, I think, going to find a way to try to stay in power and win the election.

There's a huge weapons haul that Donald Trump signed off on to go sent to Israel. Uh do you think Congress passes it? Look, I certainly hope that it proceeds with congressional approval.

However, the way that these weapon sales work is that there is a notification to Congress as a courtesy, and the administration is able to proceed by itself unless Congress acts proactively to block the sale. That has never happened. It's a high bar, and I don't see that happening now. I think most members of Congress and most American people understand that Israel is a country that's been under attack for three years and is a country that has stood by and fought side by side with the United States against a common adversary like no other country has done since World War II. And to provide it with the weapons to do so, and not just the weapons to defend itself, but American weapons that are made in American factories by American workers and provide American jobs, that's a win-win for both the United States.

Israel. No kidding. I just don't know what's gotten into Democrats these days. I know Congressman Meeks came out and said no. I don't know what they're talking about.

Blaise Mishtel, thanks so much. Appreciate it. Vice President for the policy over at Jinza.
