The President announces plans to give American workers access to retirement plans and calls for ethics reform in Congress, specifically targeting insider trading. Congressman Brian Stiles discusses his Stop Insider Trading Act and the growing support it has in the House. The conversation also touches on election integrity reform, the Voting Rights Act, and the situation in Iran, with the President applying pressure to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.

To remedy this gross disparity, I'm announcing that next year my administration will give these oft-forgotten American workers, great people, people that built our country, access to the same type of retirement plan offered to every federal worker. We will match your contribution with up to $1,000 each year. As we ensure that all Americans can profit from a rising stock market, let's also ensure that. Members of Congress cannot corruptly profit from using Insider. Information.

So he wants to make sure that they don't profit. That is speaking Congressman Brian Stiles' language. He's chairman of the Committee on House Administration, and he called for passing his act, Stop the Insider Trading Act. What did it feel like to have the President mention that? It's a pretty surreal moment to be sitting in the hall and have the President of the United States call out legislation I've been working on by name.

It's a huge opportunity, though. We have a real moment in time where we can pass meaningful ethics reform in the House of Representatives and get that signed into law. Who would you recommend, Brian, that they put into a blind trust like a president?

So let's say you're an investor, you're very successful, and you go, you know what, I'm going to go run for Congress. What happens to your portfolio? A couple of pieces of the puzzle. Once you come into office, you can no longer buy any individual stock, period, full stop. If you arrive in office and you have stock inside your portfolio, you can hold it except you provide seven days advance notice for any sale.

That removes the ability to profit off of any insider information you may garner while serving. And then it puts real teeth into the legislation to actually enforce the law. That guts the ability of any member to profit off of insider information, and I think it starts to reinstate trust from the American people in this institution. What kind of support do you have in the House? We're seeing growing support.

We passed this through committee. The president putting his weight behind this legislation, I think, gives us the opportunity to get it to the floor and absolutely pass it.

Now that Nancy Pelosi is retiring, she did come up because she's considered one of the gravest offenders, pointed out by Steve Crofton 60 Minutes years ago. Remember, he asked her that question. Cut 13. They stood up for that, I can't believe. I can't believe it.

Okay. Did Nancy Pelosi stand up if she's here? Doubt it. Pass. Pass the Stop Insider Trading Act without delay.

What was it like in there when he said that? I mean, this is where the president's at his best. He's reading a speech, and then he takes the moment and just riffs and flawlessly calls out the Democrats, or in this case, Nancy Pelosi, for their hypocrisy. And I think that's where he is at his absolute best. I mean, he's hysterical when he does this.

And it also just shows the importance of passing this type of legislation. The American people are sick and tired of seeing the reports about what's going on in Congress as it relates to the financial back and forth. Let's just remove even the appearance of impropriety, pass the Stop Insider Trading Act, and prevent members of Congress from being able to buy individual shares of stock. Right. And we'll see if that's going to get.

Do you have a schedule for the vote? We have a commitment from leadership to bring it to the House floor.

Now, with the President's backing, I think we're going to see that come to the House floor in the very near future. All right.

So, what about the Save America Act, the whole Voting Rights Act? Do you see that getting out of the House? Is every Republican for it?

Well, the Save America Act has moved. Through. We can get that. Then the question is: what does the United States Senate do with that? The president.

You need 60 votes.

Well, one of two things. You need 60 votes, and then for sure it passes. Or you do the standing filibuster and we get rid of the zombie filibuster in the Senate. The president last night spoke directly to the Republican senators in the chamber and said, pass this bill.

So now the question is, exactly how does John Thune play those cards? But you could theoretically get all these guys and these women to stand up and they could speak right through it, right? How long can that go on? It would go for a while, but at the end of the day, the Republicans in the Senate would be able to overcome that filibuster threshold by instead of allowing the zombie filibuster to actually plow through it. Exactly what the decision will be by John Thune and Republicans in the Senate, we're going to see.

But I think it's so imperative that not only this passes, we have a whole host of policies while we have the trifecta, the Senate, the House, and the presidency that we need to get done to get this country back on track. I'd love to see us break through this log jam, but we'll see. See how this plays out. This is Ainsley Earhart. Thank you for joining me for the 52-episode podcast series, The Life of Jesus.

So, what would be something else you guys have on your agenda before the November elections?

Well, I think there's full comprehensive election integrity reform we need. I carry a bill called the MEGA Act, Make Elections Great Again, two key provisions of which are the Save America Act, making sure that only U.S. citizens are voting and photo identification. But I think we need to go further. I think you need audible paper ballots.

I think you need to ban ranked choice voting. You need to ban people from ballot harvesting. You need to have Election Day end on Election Day.

So, unlike California, where ballots are arriving after the end of the election, they got to be in by the time the polls close. I think we need full comprehensive election integrity reform. There's also additional reforms I think we need as it relates to taxes and bringing costs down, bringing health care costs down.

Some of those we couldn't get into reconciliation because of internal Senate rules. We should pretty much take everything that hit the chopping block by the parliamentarian in the Senate and bring that through. And if we're going to do the standing villibuster, let's put through a large and substantive package all at the same time. With your stand, I know the Gang of Eight was briefed on the situation in Iran. I've never seen a buildup like this.

We haven't seen it since 2003. The president does not like half measures. We saw that before. What are your thoughts about what's next? What questions do you have?

I thought the President last night was very good at laying out the risks and challenges that Iran poses to global safety, making sure that we say Iran should never have a nuclear weapon and needs to stop funding terrorism. Then explaining why the United States is applying pressure and then leveraging that pressure to get Iran to do the right thing.

So if people say that Israel, we are being pressured by Israel. What do you say to that, Congressman Stele? Israel is a great ally of the United States and is absolutely correct. We should protect Israel. But I think the President laid out why it's an America's interest to make sure that we're preventing Iran from getting a nuclear weapon and funding terrorism.

Yeah, I mean, there's no doubt about it. I just can't believe how often, even on the right, people decide to blame Israel for just about everything. I don't know where that comes from.

Well, Congressman, best of luck that you get your bill passed. With the president's behind it, it's hard to see who's going to block it. Congressman Brian Style, thanks so much. Thank you. Great to see you.
