The thief comes to kill and destroy. I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly. Bodies in Christ. It is time for Kingdom Health Transformation with Mike James.

All right. Good afternoon. Good afternoon in the light land.

This is Mike James with Bodies in Christ, a Kingdom Health Transformation. And we're glad to be here today. Awesome time out, of course.

I know everybody's enjoying that nice weather out and it's just a good time to be alive and it's a better time to be alive than saved. So today we're going to pick up where we left off on one of the fruits of the Spirit. And we had talked about food discipline. That was kind of our subject matter from last week. So I'm going to revisit that some and then move on to some other things today. But before I get started, I do want to now I've had some feedback about the Healthy Church Challenge and we got some people said, hey, can we do this challenge after the holidays?

Right. It's kind of interesting because, you know, of course, we have two major eating holidays coming up. But, you know, mindset wise, it's like, hey, let's jump into it and, you know, we'll do what we need to do during those days. But you'll already be on the journey. So speaking of the Healthy Church Challenge, let me give that number out again. So if you want to join the Healthy Church Challenge or if you're a church or a member of a church and you want to reach out, you can just text me at three three six six three eight one zero zero seven.

Again, that's three three six six three eight one zero zero seven. Just put in your name information, your church and the Healthy Church Challenge. And we'll get back to you and see if we can get everything set up to to have your church on the way and actually doing this challenge in a fun way with other like minded church members. So, hey, so now again, we were talking about food discipline and exactly what that means. And we looked at the scripture from Galatians Chapter five, verse twenty three through twenty four, talking about the fruit of the Spirit. And we went through that and we got down to self-control, which is also temperance. And so that's where we're going to pick up today and talk about just having temperance and self-control as it relates to eating. What we're eating, when we're eating, because as we talked about last week, a lot of things are involved in how to properly.

Get nutrients to the body, how to properly care for the body as relates to food, food, substance and some of the things to do and then some things not to do. Now, last week, I gave everybody listening a challenge. And if you're just tuning in this week, you've never heard this before.

That's fine, too. Welcome to the broadcast. But last week we gave out a challenge. So I'm interested to know how many people fulfill the challenge.

There was about three parts to it, I believe. Right. So if you will. Text me, text that number and let me know if you did any parts of the challenge last week. OK, again, that's 336-638-1007. So just text me.

Let me know. Hey, yes, Mike, I did this part of the challenge. Now, do you all remember what the challenge was? How many?

And look, I not like I can see your hands or you can answer, but if you text that number, let me know. I'm wondering how many people actually remember what the challenge was for last week. So one of the things was. OK, we talked about the old saying when we were growing up or you would hear this quite a bit. An apple a day.

Keeps, of course, the doctor away. So the challenge, one of the challenges last week was I asked you to eat an apple a day to be intentional, to make sure you ate an apple a day. You could do it before a meal, after a meal or as a snack during some part of the day.

And I wonder how many people out there. Actually went through with the challenge to eat one apple a day. As a part of the challenge. So now, why did we do that as something as simple as an apple a day? Why would we make that a challenge?

Because it seems like that's something that everyone could do and it's easy to do. You can find an apple almost anywhere to have them, even in convenience stores. Now you can go to the gas station and they have a little fresh fruit, bananas, apples, you know, just different things right there. So I'm wondering and it's going to be interesting to see how many people give me feedback on where they actually took that challenge and ate an apple a day.

Now, again, why did I even suggest doing that? See, this was just an exercise. And one of the fruits of the spirit, which is temperance or self-control. See, self-control is not just keeping yourself from doing something wrong. But also self-control is having the intention to do something right or to do something that you want to do. So to give an example, that eating an apple a day for one week is something simple. But also, if it's something you currently are not doing every day, then it's something you have to be intentional about. Because one of the things about habits, we're used to doing certain things now that we're on autopilot. We don't even have to think about it. And a lot of that also is applicable to the foods we eat, what we drink. We're on autopilot a lot of times where we're just grabbing something by habit.

We don't even think about it. This is what I eat. This is what I drink.

And you just move in that vein. But now, if the way you're eating and drinking is not serving you or helping you to become the best version of yourself health-wise, then yes, we need to do something to disrupt that. And see, the apple a day is just a little simple disruption, because if you're not eating an apple a day right now, then this is something different that you have to intentionally do. So all of you out there who intentionally ate an apple a day, again, text me at 336-638-1007. Because, listen, I'm gonna give you a gold star on the air, right?

You get a gold star. Because, again, that was just an exercise in temperance. Something that you normally don't do, but you're gonna be intentional to do it because it's something that's gonna benefit you health-wise. Something as simple as an apple a day.

Right? So it's gonna be interesting to see how many people text me that they, yes, last week I did the apple a day. And the thing about it is, if you think about it, and if you were intentional about eating an apple a day, then also I want you to think about how you feel about doing that. Because I know just from taking self-control, just from being intentional and deliberate about something like that, that you didn't have to do, but you chose to do because a suggestion was made that, hey, this is a challenge, it's something that's gonna benefit your health.

And so I'm gonna do this for one day, I mean for one week, every day. So if you did that, that's the first step in taking the journey to kingdom health. That's like step one, that's one step. And as simple as that may sound, but that's a crucial step. And that's, again, being intentional and operating with some self-control or temperance.

Now, I also ask the audience out there to do another thing. And that was add at least eight glasses of water every day for this week. Making sure your body is hydrated, making sure you're getting enough of the right fluids. And of course, water is, I mean, it's arguably one of the best fluids that you can give yourself because so much of the body is made up of water that you have to have water circulating constantly. One, to keep your body hydrated. Also, everything moves in water in your body.

The electrons and all of those stuff that's going on to get your water, your cells, they function through the water in the body, so hydration is important. And when you think about hydration and what oil is to the body, I mean, what water is to the body, you can think of that sort of as oil is to the car, right? Or maybe a better example in that analogy would be gasoline is to the car because you have to constantly replenish water. I guess the analogy of oil in a car would be the equivalent to blood in the body, so something like that. So like gasoline, water is like gasoline to the body. We need it. We need it for all of our cells to function. The H2O is important.

The oxygen and hydrogen that moves this engine around and cause us to operate at the best level possible. So again, the second challenge last week was to drink eight glasses a day. So now all of those, some of you may already do that.

That's wonderful. So if you already do that, then still text me and let me know. Hey, listen, I drank eight glasses of water last week. I heard the challenge on the radio and I did it eight glasses a day.

I did it for a week. So again, just text me at six at three three six six three eight one zero zero seven. And let me know, hey, I did that challenge. So if you did the apple a day and you did the water challenge, let me know as well that you did both of those. Right. So now you're on your way because, again, you were intentional. You ate the apple a day.

You drank the eight glasses of water a day for a week. Right. You are on your way. Right. There you go. So now the other challenge that I gave. Was something not to do.

I wonder how many people out there remember that challenge, something not to do. Now, as we look at the fruit of the spear and we talked about self-control and temperance and what that means as far as. A lot of times we think of temperance as reframing from doing something that may be detrimental or not in our best interests.

Right. A lot of times that's how we look at temperance, the self-control. But as I mentioned, self-control also is doing things.

That we should do or want to do that does serve our best interests. So on that side of it, eating the apple a day is something that you're doing. That requires self-control or being intentional. And then drinking the eight glasses of water a day along that same vein, something that you are doing that benefits your body. That you're choosing to do and you're being intentional about it. Self-control, you're operating self-control. Now, the flip side of that is not doing something.

That's detrimental to your health. And we talked about this last week. And so this was the other part of the challenge. And I want to know how many people consciously made an effort or you actually didn't eat any processed foods for a week.

I want to hear from you as well. Right. So if you did one of those eating the apple every day. I want you to text me a one.

If you did drinking the water. I want you to text me a two. If you didn't eat any processed foods, I want you to text me a three. And then if you did all of those, then text for us and say, hey, I did all four of those challenges for a week. And also, I want to know how you felt after doing those things for a week, because it's impossible to do those things for one week. All of them.

And you not feel, I mean, a difference. So we're going to get back into this in a couple of minutes. This is a lot of fun because I am getting some text from a few people I just saw come up on my tablet. And so it's going to be interesting to see the feedback. But look, we'll be back in a couple of minutes here.

Great feedback from a couple people that texted in about the challenge that we gave last week. So if you're just tuning in, you just turn on the radio here to the light. I've been talking about the Healthy Church Challenge.

You can reach out to me if you're interested in that at 336-638-1007. And then we're also talking about just some things that, when it comes to temperance, that we can do or self-control that really affects our health. And we got some correspondence from some of the listeners out there who took the challenge from last week to eat an apple a day for a week, which was pretty cool. Just something as simple as that, eating an apple a day for a week, and just what type of difference that will make. But it wasn't just about eating the apple a day. It was what eating an apple a day actually means as it relates to you being intentional and doing something intentional, basically to show you that you really do have control over what you choose to eat. Even though we do a lot of things by habit, a lot of things we're just used to doing, it's easy for us to do because, again, it's habit. It's just what we do.

We don't even have to think about it. But as it relates to taking this walk and this journey towards Kingdom Health, just for a while, it will take being intentional. It will take making certain choices and exercising temperance or self-control to do that. And a perfect example is the apple a day that I mentioned for last week's challenge. And then if you did that, then you you should feel a sense of accomplishment.

And also, you know, the light bulb will go off that you know what? Hey, wait a minute. I do have control over what I eat because I didn't used to eat an apple a day. But because of this challenge, I chose to eat an apple a day. So that's liberating, because if you can choose to eat an apple a day, then you can choose to eat X, Y, Z. You can choose to eat other things.

You can choose to, you know, get the proper amount of sleep. That's just one step in the journey to Kingdom Health is knowing that you can make the choice and the choice really is yours to make. So all you have to have is the desire. Right. If you have the desire as a believer to walk in Kingdom Health.

And you did that little exercise last week, even if you didn't do off all three of the things. As I mentioned, even if you just ate the apple a day, then that lets you know that, yes, you have everything inside of you to intentionally make choices. To.

Better your health or to experience Kingdom Health. Now, once you show that you're willing to. This is what I truly believe.

Once you operate in that space to where you're willing to do those things. As believers, I believe then we access the grace of God. And as the word says, if we delight ourselves in him, he will give us the desires of our heart. So if we really have the desire to experience Kingdom Health, to walk in the best health we've ever been in.

And then just as an example, that little challenge we did with the apple a day where we operated in some temperance, the fruit of the spirit. Then I think the grace of God is there, the grace of God we're able to access. And the word says, my grace is sufficient for you, so no matter what it is or what we're doing, and we're talking about health and those things right now.

But. If his grace is sufficient, then all we have to do is access that grace. And I believe this is one of the steps that will help us to walk in that grace. And that's make being intentional, operating in the fruit of the spirit, which in this case, we're talking about temperance or self-control. To where we are choosing something that's in line with God's desire for us to be healthy.

And once those connections are made, then it's just the process of really rinse and repeat, just adding different things, accessing God's grace and watching it work. Now, I said you'd have to be intentional for a while because that's true. Because just like I said earlier, a part of how we eat now or may eat or some things we may drink has become habit. It's just something we do. We just don't even think about it anymore. You know, I mean, we may think about where we're going to eat or what we're going to eat and that kind of thing just from a what I have a taste for. But.

It's on automatic. And then over time, as we're walking in this kingdom, help the same things, the same thing happens over time to where now you're not even really thinking about or being super intentional in your thoughts about eating an apple a day. Now you have a bowl full of apples on your table.

Right. So when you walk by, boom, you grab an apple, you eat it, you're not even thinking about it. Instead of carrying candy around, you may have some baby carrots in a bag. In a Ziploc bag that if you get hungry or you want something to eat, boom, you just eat a couple of baby carrots if you like those. If not, you may have some pistachios, you may have some cashews, you may have some pecan.

I mean, just something natural. That you still can just grab, but now that's second nature, grabbing those things or you may want something to drink. You may not want to drink water. You may have three or four kabochas in the refrigerator. And you may grab one of those and you still are getting some carbonation, some sparkle, but also you're getting a bunch of gut bacteria that's health, that's good for you. You know, that fermented drink. Now you're doing something good for your body and still getting the same satisfaction that you would get from drinking, you know, whatever, a Mountain Dew or a grape soda or orange soda.

But now you're getting a hundred times more the benefit of drinking something healthy, but still getting the sensation of drinking a soda. But then it's just, again, now it's just a matter of choices. Now it's just a matter of choices. See, and now we think about the Bible, right, and we go back to, you know, something that was in the Bible, you know, back in trying to think of the scripture and what Bible verse it was in. But basically, there was a choice that God had put before the children of Israel, and he told them, I put before you this day, life and death, blessings and cursing.

Some of you know what that scripture is and you might come up with it right now, I can look it up on my phone, but, and he told them to choose life so that you and your seed may live. Self-control, temperance is a choice, right? So now choosing to eat an apple a day for a week, that may seem simple, it may seem like, okay, what is this?

But that exercise right there, if you did that last week, it's a simple act of self-control that you can decide to do something as it relates to health and do it. Hey, I'm gonna encourage you guys to go out and one of our sponsors, Crawford Chiropractic Clinic, and they're having trunk or treat, trunk, not trick. And they're doing that this evening at their location in Greensboro, get a chance, go out, check them out, tell them you heard about it on the light. And listen, until next time, I pray that all of you all be blessed, love you guys, and remember the best truly is yet to come. For a Kingdom Health Transformation with Mike Jayce on the light.
