Good afternoon in the light land, like radio land out there. This is Mike James with Bodies in Christ, a Kingdom Health Transformation. And I'm so excited today because I have a very special guest in the studio. And she's going to tell us all about what she does as it relates to health and wellness and keeping everybody stress-free. So I do have Anjereica Artist.

And she's with a gifted healing massage and body works. So I'm going to get in here. I'm going to ask Anjereica a couple of questions. But how are you doing, Anjereica? I'm doing great. Thank you so much for having me on the show today. Absolutely.

Absolutely. I'm looking forward to hearing some of you about what you do, how you do it, how it helps as far as health and wellness is concerned, because there's a lot of components to health and wellness. And it's not necessarily just what you eat or an exercise.

And there's a lot more to it. One of the main factors as it relates to health is stress. So when you can help people be stress-free, then you can also help them increase their level of health. So one of the questions I have from you, Anjereica, starting off is, tell me why you decided to partner with Bodies in Christ and what we're doing here on the light radio.

You called me, Mike. And when you called, you told me about this amazing opportunity to partner with a group of people that believe in actually caring for the body. There's a giant gap in understanding of how you can care for your body and it not all being luxury. It's actually a necessity.

We want to be able to move when we're in our 60s and not hurt all the time. And so when you take the time to care for your body, you set that time aside during the week, you feel better in life. And it's a wonderful time. Absolutely. That's that's awesome. That's awesome. Now, Anjereica, I know I know a little bit about you from our conversations and everything, but can you tell us a little bit about yourself, kind of a little bit about your history and health and wellness and kind of how did you get started in this space?

Yeah. So my mom and sister and my dad have kind of had some different health issues over time. And they'd be sore, achy.

It started when I was like 10. And I'd go in the room and be like, I can help and kind of give them a massage. And they would definitely hit me back with, you know, you can do this for a living.

You should be a massage therapist. I laughed them off for a long time. I went to I went to UNCG where I got my undergraduate in kinesiology. And then after I graduated in 2020 with covid at its height, I was just kind of on pause. Like, where do we go from here?

Got done. So maybe a month and then decided now's a good time for massage school. Everyone's scared to touch.

But touch is so necessary for health and well-being. So I went to massage school, completed the program, and now I am massage therapist. I've been here in the industry for three years and it's been amazing. Awesome. Awesome. So now let me ask you this. So kinesiology. Did I say that right?

OK. So now when you in that type of study, is that the same track as physical therapy or is it different in kind of how does that fit into what you're doing now with massage therapy? So it is on the same track. That is the basis for physical therapy. It's one of the foundations if somebody chose to go that way. So for massage therapy, I specialize by going to school for massage therapy.

If a physical therapist was going to go their route, they would go to school for physical therapy. So it's just a difference in education after undergraduate. OK. OK. Excellent.

Excellent. So now what if someone has never had a massage and is really uncomfortable at the thought of undressing? Because I know, you know, sometimes we think of massage, we may be a little modest or whatever, especially when you, you know, talking about believers.

But kind of how do you put them at ease when it comes to something like that? So the biggest thing is you get to choose your level of undress. Nobody can make you take anything off that you're not willing to.

So you get on the table with whatever level of clothing you're comfortable with, even if that's all your clothes, including your socks. And we're going to work around it. I can do compression.

I can do different techniques that don't require you to have your clothes off. OK. OK. So that's good. That's good to know. That should kind of help some people be at ease. Now, one of the things I know about, you know, stress as it relates to health, your overall health and wellness, because, you know, I'm also I'm certified in health coaching. So, you know, I did have to take some health science around, you know, health and health period, even though my background has come from a different way, from a spiritual standpoint with God showing me some things to to do and kind of teach, you know, about 30 years ago as it relates to health. But then also getting the science behind, you know, the whole food science and health science as it relates to health. And one of the things I know and in some of our classes around health and wellness, stress was a big deal. As far as, you know, just your overall health and people, you know, wanting to lose weight and wondering why they can't.

And then cortisone ended up around, you know, the waistline because of stress. Right. So how important is it? Because I know some people will think, well, you know, massage may be a luxury. Right. And some people believe that. But, you know, is there such thing as getting a massage too much or how did someone fit massage into their regular wellness routine? Should they do that?

Yeah. So massage should not be considered a luxury. Everybody has an ache or a pain that's been sitting on them for a week or a month or maybe longer. And sometimes this is just a muscle ache and we can work through that in massage.

It doesn't have to be something you live with. Pain is usually a sign that something is not functioning properly in the body. So absolutely check in with your doctor, see your primary care. But if it's muscle related, massage can definitely help in most cases. As far as how often to get massage, I am very blessed to be able to get a massage at least twice a month. I have some amazing massage therapists in my life that I get to call on for help. I would seriously suggest that if finances and time allow that a person get a massage at least once a month.

But if not, definitely on a consistent schedule. So if you can't do it every month, do it every two months. Do it every three. Once a year for your birthday is wonderful. It's a nice, relaxing experience, but you don't get the lasting health benefits if you aren't consistent.

OK. OK. It's pretty much like anything else. So someone start, especially when you start thinking about health and wellness. And of course, you know, my whole take on the on the program is for helping people to reach what I call Kingdom Health. Just a level of health that you can right now only dream about.

But you can do it because if you can see it and dream it, it can become your way of life as a lifestyle. So when it comes to massage and getting massage, you know, monthly, twice a month or whatever, because I know people start different workout regimens and they have muscle aches and things like that. So would you suggest like if they're experiencing muscle fatigue and different things like that from starting a workout routine? Is that a good time to see, you know, to see someone like you?

Absolutely. I have quite a few clients that come in after their workout or after training and they're like, so we overdid it this week. Please help. We can find we can find the area to focus on. We can spend a short session focus just on the area that hurts. Or we can do a longer session and we can focus on the problem area. We can also get to the rest of your body if time permits.

OK. So now let me ask you this, because people out there listening and hearing this, if they want to get in touch with you or book a session or something like that, what's the best way to reach you? How can how can you be reached? So the best way to reach me is by phone. My phone number is 336-448-3511.

I will say that I am typically in session during business hours. So if you if you call and I'm not able to pick up, send a text or leave a voicemail, because like everyone else, I get spam calls to guys. So let me know that you were calling or texting in reference to a session so we can get that book for you. So now do you prefer text or phone call? I will take either.

Whatever is more easy, more easy for that client. OK. Yeah. So now so one of the things I talked about, because my wife, she used to get massages every month and then a person changed and went back to work, helping out at the hospital, doing some things. So I definitely want to make sure we get we get her on on your schedule or you on her schedule. It works to make sure that happens.

And even myself, because, you know, that's something I haven't done on a consistent basis. And I think that could be a good part of just, again, a healthy lifestyle. And that's what we're teaching and share with people is just how to live your best healthy lifestyle. And of course, biblically speaking, you know, we know and you're a believer.

Absolutely. So it's a part of the massage therapy when we talk about laying on of hands. That can definitely be a part of where you transfer that, you know, as your massage. And I don't know if you do this now or not, but just praying for healing as you're massaging the person and and then just seeing letting God use you because you have that gift.

That's actually one of it was one of the more interesting parts of massage school. A part of boundaries. We also include spiritual boundaries in the conversation.

So there's physical, emotional, spiritual, maybe one or two others. And so spiritual boundaries are considered when you say you should not pray for a person during session without their consent. OK. So if I have a client that absolutely prefers that I not do that, they can let me know. But I, by default, actually pray for clients during session, especially when we get to an area. And they're telling me that they've been struggling with this issue for a while because my hands might be gifted, but I can't do anything compared to the creator. OK. OK, that's good.

So now one of the things, even when I'm thinking about this and this is so good. And Jerrica, because, you know, again, from a scriptural and from a believer standpoint of view and even the name of your business, you know, gifted healing. Massage and body works. So listen, if you're out there in the light land and you're listening to us, you can definitely again contact. And Jerrica, reach out because, again, when we talk about health and healing and this woman of God is is in the practice of healing through the art of massage. So I definitely reach out to her because if you have different aches, pains in your body, you know, somebody that can lay hands on you from a scientific and from a practical standpoint.

But also pray for your healing as she do as she's doing that. You definitely get the best of both worlds. Yeah, absolutely.

Absolutely. So now let me ask you this, because. Of course, we talked about different. Well, I didn't we didn't talk about this. What are some of the different types of massages that a person would get?

Because, see, I don't know. I know, you know, athletes, a lot of times they get massages after, you know, they may get them every day. Yeah, they get sports massage.

OK, OK. So so what are some of the different modalities that people would be able to to to get from you? So my focus at this time is that I do two really well, and that is relaxation and therapeutic massage. OK, for my clients who are a little more tender and they aren't interested in deeper work, they don't want to be sore the next day.

They just want to float on a cloud out the door. We can do that. But if a client wants some therapeutic work, they've been sore, they're OK being mildly sore the next day, but they feel the difference and they feel better after it. We can also work that out.

OK, OK. So, yeah, what we're going to do is we're going to go into break here in a few, you know, less than a minute. But I want to, when we come back, really get into kind of the difference, if you will, share with us the difference between the therapeutic, kind of what's involved in that and who would seek the therapeutic massages and then the people who want to leave out floating on a cloud.

And what, you know, what those massages are and kind of how those work as well. So, but yeah, this has been good because I'm learning a lot. As a matter of fact, I'll be ready to book my session. So we're going to come back in a couple of minutes and continue our conversation.

All right. So we're back and with a very special guest. This has been this has been fun.

Been amazing. Great information with Angerica artists with gifted healing, massage and body works. And so she was just sharing some of the different modalities as it relates to massage and kind of when someone would use the different types and different methods of massage. So I want her to go into like when would someone come in for a therapeutic massage and what the differences are between a therapeutic massage. And then also when you're getting massage for total relaxation, for when you just want to come out of there, like as you put it, floating on a clock.

Absolutely. So if you can share that with us, that would be great. So the the main difference in the two types of massage or technique used. So if I'm doing a relaxation massage, I'm using more broad strokes during the session.

So that is the flat part of my forearm or the palms of my hands. It is a more soothing work, typically speaking. Every once in a while, I'll throw in some more specific work that may be tip of the thumb to find a knot and kind of gently work that out. OK, but we don't do a whole lot of specific work.

That's what it's called. If you're using elbows or the point of your thumbs, there's a lot less specific work in a relaxation massage. Now, let me ask you this, not to interrupt you, but when you say now when you find knots, how do you recognize?

See, that's that's interesting concept to me. How do you recognize the knot? Do you actually feel knots in the muscle tissue?

Absolutely. OK, so I would best comparison is if you have a marble under your blanket and you put your hand over the marble, you'll feel the marble. Not everybody feels those knots. There are a select few of us who have chosen massage therapy. I'm sure there are many people out there who haven't done massage therapy that can still find those things.

But that's what the training is for. OK, so that we can find those areas that need the special attention and help resolve that tension. And so that's when someone would choose a therapeutic massage if they were wanting to get those knots out of out of those muscle tissues and things like that. So therapeutic leans more toward a more firm pressure, typically speaking. This is where people get deep tissue and therapeutic work confused because I can do therapeutic work and not necessarily apply as much pressure. Usually if somebody says they want a deep tissue massage, they just want firm pressure. They don't necessarily want you to go digging around in their muscles to find all the things that need to be worked out. So therapeutic massage, on the other hand, is where I come in and I'm looking. You've told me what your problem areas are, and I am looking for specific pressure or pressure points in the muscle or the muscle belly where I can find the tension and then work it out. I would use more of a specific, specific pressure to do those techniques. We do more rolfing or more rolling of the muscles and more firm pressure in that one.

OK, OK, that's that's interesting. So now the therapeutic massage is someone coming in and getting that. So once someone has had a therapeutic massage and they leave, I know you mentioned earlier they may be a little they may be a little sore at first.

OK, but then they will notice a difference in how they how they feel. Yes, if you have had a therapeutic massage, you should notice the difference when you're leaving. You should realize, hey, that doesn't hurt anymore.

OK, there's a difference between being a little sore and being in pain. And if you have had a massage where you were in pain afterwards, I highly suggest that you find a massage therapist. It does not have to be me that you can have another experience and let them know you've left sore before. And you do not want to leave sore again because massage shouldn't hurt unless you were going in for a specific type of massage where you know that that may be the case. But those people are requesting that service.

They're not just happening upon it. OK, so now deep tissue massage that you shouldn't leave hurting coming from a deep tissue massage. Typically speaking, if you are receiving a deep tissue massage, you should not leave in pain. OK, there are different massage techniques that have different impact on the body. If you've never had a massage before and we come in and we use firm pressure, specific points, you were going to be more sore than you would if you've had massage for the last 30 years because your body's built up that tolerance. You are used to the sensation.

Your body just kind of doesn't know how to respond if you've never had massage before and then you go into deep work. OK, OK, that makes sense. So now tell us a little bit about the leaving floating on a cloud. To be fair, even my therapeutic clients do get to do that.

It is not just for relaxation clients. OK, floating on the cloud is a sensation of everything is right in the world. I could go take a nap now.

I could go on a walk. I am perfectly content in this space. It's like when you wake up from a nap and you think you missed the bus, but you're in your 40s.

You haven't missed your school bus like that was that was back in high school. You're fine. It's that sensation of full relaxation that you get from a really good massage. OK. So no, I can I can relate to that. Like I said, I haven't had many massages, but I have had like a hydrotherapy session, you know, like traveling at a resort or something like that.

You have it included in your package, which I actually just kind of left from that. Yeah. And I did leave floating on the cloud because at the end they kind of leave you in this little bed that supports your back. It's a hard surface, but your back is supported and you just chill for a minute. And then they do a slight scalp massage and you smell some good stuff. And then they just leave you there for a few minutes, scalp massage and aromatherapy. Right.

Right. And you just they just take you away. But again, share with us again the best way to get in touch with you, because we definitely want people to reach out. Because, again, this and I want to get other professionals that are believers in the health and wellness space to really introduce to the listening audience so they can take advantage of all of the modalities of wellness. You know what I mean?

Because I believe God put that there for us. You have the healing hands. You know, I'm teaching on mindset around eating and health. And and then another young lady does the actual physical part, which we're going to get her in even the mental health part of it. We have someone that talks about that chiropractor that talks about, you know, taking that next step. So definitely share with us how you can be reached. And yeah, this has been good.

It has been amazing. So contacting me once again, the phone number is 336-448-3511. You can text me. You can call if you don't reach me on that call.

Just leave a brief voicemail so I know who I'm calling back and what we're trying to set up. The only days that I do not do massage, the only days I'm not a massage therapist is Sunday. That is my rest day. Just so you know now. No, that's good. That's good.

So look, and Jerrica, this this has been amazing. Great information. And I feel like you gave us all a great education. I feel like I know so much more now about massage and why I need one at least once a month.

And I encourage anyone to reach out, you know, put that on your schedule, because now everybody's talking about self-care and wellness and understanding how important it is to actually get self-care. Right. Taking that break, taking that time to make sure that you're being taken care of. You got that respite where, you know, where you can chill for a minute. Right. Absolutely. And if you don't take the time, you can either choose to sit down or your body will sit you down.

So choose the time and then you get to enjoy the rest of it. There you go. There you go. Well, look, family, I appreciate everyone jumping on today and being with us. And remember, the best is yet to come. Beloved, I wish above all things that you prosper and be in health even as your soul prospers.
