That's BetterHELP.com slash positive. It's just, you just learn to deal with it. You know what I mean? A lot of you might miss me, but my mom also misses me, which is why I'm taking a trip to Houston to visit her. It's funny because one listener wrote to me and asked me on Facebook if I would be taking Penny with me.
And I responded, no, I don't take Penny on airplanes. She would be terrified underneath, especially at her age now, to put her in a crate and stick her underneath a plane. It's just too much for her. And so instead the dog sitter will have her for a few days, and she loves the dog sitter who also is her groomer. So she goes to work with the dog sitter and just has a blast.
She's the queen of the, she rules the room, she's the queen of the grooming, the grooming salon. Anyway, the woman, the listener then responded with, oh, I assumed you were driving. I guess not realizing how far it is to Houston from the New York City area. 1700 miles one way, I would get there, but I wouldn't be able to get back in time. One weekend trip.
My entire vacation would be spent just driving to Texas. So no, this time I'm flying. In fact, I will be on a plane in, let's see, nine hours from now, actually. I should already be in my seat on the plane.
Producer J just asked me whether or not I will be sleeping. There's always hope. Never, ever give up. Never lose hope. But no, probably not. I try, and it's a mental thing for me.
It's a stigma. Because in 2011, I went to Africa with a group of people from my church, and we went to South Africa by plane. So we were in the tube, I call it the tube, we were in the airplane for 20 hours going east from the United States to South Africa. And then we were 24 hours in the tube coming back because we were flying into a headwind.
24 hours in a tube. It was awful. But it was more awful because I slept five minutes.
Five minutes. I was so exhausted that I was nearly in tears. And I was in a middle seat, and the people all around me are sleeping. It was a huge plane. So I was in the middle chunk of seats in the middle seat, and there were two on either side of me. And then another four seats on either side of us beyond the aisle. So it was a huge plane.
Five minutes. It was so bad because the jet lag and the time changes and everything else. I feel like for three weeks after that, my sleep was horrible.
But since then, here's the byproduct. I've not been able to sleep on planes because every time I think I'm about to sleep and I try everything, I stay up. I even flew to L.A. once and took a melatonin and still didn't sleep. So then it didn't wear off, and I wasn't able to function when I got on the ground after flying cross-country. Yeah, I've tried so many things.
It does not work. And I truly believe it's mental. I believe it's a mental block because of what happened in Africa and freaking out for 24 hours about the fact that I couldn't sleep.
24 hours in the middle seat in the middle aisle. It was awful. It was like a form of torture.
It was. And I did climb over my sleeping companions multiple times to get out just to walk around. But I felt trapped.
I'm not claustrophobic, but I felt claustrophobic in that middle seat for 24 hours, roughly. Especially because you can't even look out the window. Did you have a TV in front of you? Yeah, yeah, yeah. I tried watching movies. I tried everything.
I tried reading. And every time I thought I was about to doze off, my brain would kick in and freak me out again. You're not going to be able to sleep. It's going to be such a little.
You still have 17 hours to go. Oh, Jay. It's mental. No, it's all mental. It's all mental. And that's where my sleep issues originate, even when I'm not flying, when I'm home. Once I wake up and my brain starts going, oh, it's bad. It's been one of those weeks with a lot of my play.
Pretty stressful here behind the scenes at the office as well. Although I must say, Jay and I want to say this. I don't know if he's listening. But we would like Paul the engineer here at Odyssey to know how much we appreciate him. In fact, I even brought chocolate chip brownies for Paul this morning. Now, just to be fair, I didn't bake them for Paul. These are leftover.
They're actually the ugly ones from producer Jay's birthday gift. So I tried to cut them so they would look prettier for Paul. But we were so, well, I was so stressed out on, it was Tuesday morning, right?
We lost, we lost some audio that we desperately needed and it threw the show into a lurch. Paul showed up on Tuesday morning and he was very kind. He was calm. I was, I was not calm and I was begging him to fix it. Please help us fix this.
Correct whatever this error is on this computer. And he started working on it and he said, don't worry, I'm sure I can find it. And then said, the expert will be in at nine o'clock.
If I don't do it, I promise you I will make sure that he is the man on the job. And I was, I was babbling because I was so upset. I'll bake for you if you can find this, if you can find this audio. And so he did. He sent us an email at one o'clock in the afternoon. So that's how long he worked on it. He sent us the file.
We recovered what we had lost and still breaking out of hives just thinking about it. And so Paul normally doesn't work the early morning shift. But because the early morning engineer is on vacation this week, Paul is coming in in the next half hour and I am armed with chocolate chip brownies. So we would like to say one more time, Paul, thank you.
You saved us this week. And also I started crying when I got his email. That's how stressful this was. So Jay, so Jay, I don't know how it was that you weren't sleeping. I was awake again because I couldn't sleep because I was so stressed out.
My brain starts going. So I see the email from Paul early afternoon on Wednesday. No, it was still Tuesday.
Sorry, it was still Tuesday, right? I see the email from Paul. I start crying because he says we retrieved your file. We retrieved your file. I start crying. I immediately text Jay in all capital letters.
Jay with like 17 Y's. We got it. He fixed it. And why were you awake? Well, because I stayed up for so long to wait for that email because I was driving the hell out of me too. I was like, are we going to get this?
Are we going to get this? I was waiting for the email to come in for the confirmation. Stupid computer. And then I finally had just passed out and I set my alarm for early so I could.
Jay never sets his alarm. I wanted to get up. Even if I didn't hear anything, I was going to write to them and be like, hey, I just need to hear before you get out of there before anyone leaves. And I got your text literally as I'm writing an email. And I think I called you within four seconds. Oh, yes, I couldn't believe it.
I thought it was a joke. I thought maybe somehow your phone had accidentally called me. So we are so appreciative. Paul, thank you.
You saved us this week. And yes, I am armed with chocolate chip brownies, which were for Jay's birthday, but he doesn't have to know that. So thumbs up or thumbs down. This is my first time making these chocolate chip brownies with the powdered sugar on top.
What did you think? Oh, thumbs up for sure. They're like fudgy. Yeah. Are they fudge or are they a brownie?
That's the thing. I think the more I get into them, they're like, initially I thought they were kind of fudgy. They are fudgy.
Which is great, which is fantastic. And then I had them again. I was like, yeah, I still taste kind of like a fudginess to this more than I do like a brownie. Fudginess? I've never heard that word before. A fudginess.
A fudginess. Which is incredible. Yeah, very good. Well, good. Let's hope Paul likes them because he's getting the rest of them. So I hope you like what you have because there's nothing left after Paul gets his hands on them. Paul has earned them. I know we probably cocked Durant this hour. As he would say, Paul is the real MVP.
Paul is the real MVP. Also, can I just tell you how much I hate you right now? That when you talk about fudginess, Aaron Rodgers comes to mind. I hate you. You did this to me. You gave me the audio of Rodgers talking about going to the bathroom in the darkness retreat. And just for those of you who are tuning in, we have not played it yet. Because I feel like I will be doing you a disservice.
If you hear this, you can't unhear it. And it's TMFI. It's TMI.
I do not need to know this. He's so proud of himself because he's talking about it too. Now that can sometimes be a male trait.
Let's be fair. I've got brothers. I know what they talk about. I've got guy friends.
So many guy friends. And I know what they talk about. But why would you do this when you know it's going to make headlines? Why? And Jay, we haven't played it on the show yet. Should we?
Before the hour is up, let people hear. Stop looking at me like that. You're so proud of yourself. You're so proud of yourself. Not as proud as Aaron was for his conquest. For his fudgeness.
I gotta say, when I said that, that's the first thing that came to my mind too. See? We're not even playing the cut.
And I can't get the fudgeness out of my brain. Okay. I'll let you decide because you're a producer.
I am not objective in this case. So you decide. Should we play it before the hour is up or no? I think it should have to get in there at some point. You think it's our job? Yeah. It's a duty. It's a duty? Oh my god.
Did you do it on purpose? Kind of. Gross. You're gross too. And I hate you.
It's a good thing you already have your chocolate chip brownies because I would not be giving you the fudgeness now. Too late. Thank goodness Paul's not talking about this when I go. Well if he hears the clip. No. Okay. Fine.
By the end of the hour. Only because I'm leaving and not coming back. That's what's happening. Yeah.
That's the only reason. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence. Thank you Paul. No thank you to Jay.
Although it was his birthday this week so you know. You can find me on Twitter. Paul Radio. If you missed my conversation with Darlene Santore. She goes by Coach Dar. Very inspirational. Her story has now become the catalyst for a book called The Art of Bouncing Back.
26 years as a therapist. She's a mental skills coach to pro athletes and CEOs at the highest level. And even Jay who I told him you're going to love this conversation with Dar because I knew what she was going to bring to the table. Don't miss it.
And he was mesmerized by it. It's part of our podcast and we'll have the link up on both Twitter and Facebook. Few of you have already written to me to say you've ordered the book which is amazing. She's a true inspiration because her bouncing back was forged through the type of adversity that you wouldn't wish on your worst enemy. That you wouldn't wish on Aaron Rodgers. Don't do it.
Don't do it. So make sure you check that out on the podcast. We're so glad to share her story but also the fact that her book is out and her launch party is today in Phoenix.
Speaking of Phoenix. Oh go ahead. Just tell me. Just tell me that was one hell of a segue. I didn't even do it on purpose. Duty. You did that on purpose.
I know you did. Kevin Durant making his debut with the Phoenix Suns on Wednesday night. Kogi a steal. He's going to take the left to the floor.
Tried the jam. It goes off the back rim. Booker able to track it down. Gives to Paul who fakes the three. Now Durant trailing the play. Hesitates. Takes it to the rim and lays it in.
There you go. The first bucket for KD in a Suns uniform. And it comes on a dribble drive and a left hand finish off the window. Kevin Durant gliding down the lane left side past a couple Charlotte defenders.
And he was able to get that first bucket and phew all the release. Because he actually admits there was some anxiety about appearing in his first game since early January. A lot of nerves. I done played in almost a thousand basketball games but today I was nervous. You know I was in this new team, new group. I want to do well. I want to play hard for them and be coachable. So I was thinking about all of that today but once the ball was tipped my teammates were incredible.
Making me comfortable and I just try to go out there and play my game. 34-26 Suns. Durant wants another jumper.
Give it to him. From 20 feet away on the right side. KD the first man into double figures on the night. Chris Paul double team finds Durant top of the arc.
He turns and drives on Oubre. Jumper up from the free throw line. Good again for KD. Whose got it cooking in the fourth. He's 10 out of 14 on the night. 23 points. Booker fading right side. Hits another jumper from that mid range game as the Suns continue to capitalize from that space on the floor. 33 to lead all scores for book.
Here's Booker left alone. He's going to try the three. And by that three from the right wing. Another assist for CP3. And another three points for Devin Booker. He's got 37 to lead everybody tonight. Man he's just a pure basketball player.
Somebody that works on this game and then to translate over to the real game. So he's one of a kind man. He came out tonight. He missed some free throws but he came out tonight. He got some good looks up and was able to lead us to this W. Kevin Durant joking about Devin Booker's free throws. I think he missed two. It was four for six from the line if I remember the box score. On Valley Sports Arizona following KD's debut with the Suns.
And I know it was Charlotte. I get it. They're not a good basketball team. But this looked perfect.
About as close to perfect as you could be. Assimilating KD in. Booker has 37. KD himself has 23 points in 27 minutes. Along with a couple of blocked shots and a handful of rebounds.
De'Andre Ayton has a double double. Chris Paul had 11 assists. This is why people were excited about the Suns bringing in KD.
And the possibilities now moving forward through the end of the season and into the post season. It's just pretty cool to be able to give the guy the ball and he can get to his spot and get a really good shot. And I thought the team fed off of him just being himself tonight. When they see him go through his workout, it's unlike anything you've ever seen before. And I think that's had a huge impact on everybody in the building.
So I think that's a form of leadership. So the Suns obviously feeling good about the addition of KD and how smooth he looked. How well he shot. He just missed a handful of shots. And they're going to get him more minutes as he gets his feet back underneath him. And Monty Williams, he doesn't sound thrilled.
Oh, but he's got to be. It's not quite the same for the Dallas Mavericks. They've got KD's former teammate Kyree.
They're obviously going the wrong way. But the Phoenix Suns are in a good spot right now. Maybe can make up some ground in the west. In the east, well, top of the east, top of the NBA, the Milwaukee Bucks now have 16 consecutive wins. And they blow the doors off the Magic last night in large part because of their three-point shooting.
So Giannis has 31. But as a group, the team had a season-high 26 triples. I didn't even realize we hit that many threes. I knew we hit a lot, but that's a lot of threes. But just trusting one another. We have unselfish, smart players. And that just kind of fosters that.
We're all looking out for each other out there. A 26 of 56 from beyond the arc. The Bucks are a deep team. They're a veteran.
They're experienced. But when they hit threes like that, I don't know how you beat them. The Boston Celtics also shot well from beyond the arc, though not quite as many. Jason Tatum rounding back into form. And actually, this is kind of a cool stat shared by Sean Grandy and Cedric Maxwell on Celtics radio. Tatum turns 25 this weekend, so a couple of days away from his 25th birthday. And he passes Giannis on the NBA's all-time scoring list for players under 25. They actually keep that list.
Ooh. Luca is just about to turn 24. At some point, I feel like that's going to be his record.
We'll see moving forward. But Jason Tatum had been in the slump. He only had two points in the first quarter of this game against the Cavaliers, but finished like a house on fire. 41 when it was all said and done. Couple assists shy of a triple-double. And how exactly did he put that shooting slump in the rearview mirror? Not listening to you guys.
I don't play that. It's a long season, 82 games. You know, nobody has a great day at work. You know, every day of the year, everybody has bad days, I guess. But, you know, you got to take the good days with the bad days.
I say it all the time, I never get too high, never get too low. And, you know, regardless of what happened, you can't change it. You just got to get ready for the next one and move on.
I didn't do anything different, right? You know, playing like s*** we was losing. You know, just got to the locker room a little early. That's it. I mean, he is a world-class player, one of the best in the NBA.
Probably will finish second in the MVP voting to Nikola Jokic. So eventually he was going to find that stroke again. And he did mention he'd been away from home for two weeks, away from his son. He also mentioned that he may have dabbled with some alcohol on vacation. Still drunk from vacation late at night.
I was trying to downplay it a little bit, Jase, but okay. So the Celtics and the Bucks both win, which means the Bucks are still on top of the East. And getting set for now the final, final stretch run with just about 19-20 games to go for these teams.
All right, coming up. The future of the NFL is not so much making headlines in Indianapolis. But it's the current state, the current players in the NFL. We hear from Mike McCarthy, a lot of changes on the coaching staff. Especially the offensive side that could affect Dak Prescott. And also the Panthers meeting with Derek Carr. What did they see? What will they tell us? We'll do an NFC version of QB news and then we'll save Aaron Rodgers for last.
Because he deserves a category all his own. It's After Hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio. You are listening to the After Hours Podcast. And off the back door again. No, Herbert keeps it in. Touchdown, charges. Herbert with his second of the day.
Here's the snap. Josh going to keep it himself and run it again inside the five. Into the end zone. Touchdown Buffalo. Josh Allen, nine yard touchdown run. The Bills respond and then some. It's time for QB news on After Hours.
Actual news, not fake news. Like some quarterbacks try to give us. We did the AFC version of QB news last hour. And that includes the Ravens comments about the contract situation with Lamar Jackson. As well as the Bengals GM. When they're talking about the Joe Burrow contract extension.
So make sure you grab that on the podcast. It's After Hours on CBS Sports Radio. In Carolina, new coach. They need a new quarterback.
Happens every year, doesn't it? General manager Scott Fitterer is giving us a little insight into their recent meeting with Derek Carr. And then Frank Reich, who always sounds more optimistic than the next guy. It really wasn't a sales pitch.
It was a, hey, what are you looking for? Okay, this is who we are. How does it match up?
And we're not going to try to sell someone on something that's like, try to hide our warts over here. It's just like, this is us. And is there a fit?
Okay, if there is a fit, how do we work this out? And it was a good, we probably talked for close to an hour. And you got really deep into different things. You saw that there was a blend that fit personality-wise. But we have a lot of work to do.
It went well. It is unique. You know, Derek having an opportunity situation, which for a player doesn't get any better than that. He gets the picks, right? He's had an excellent career. Here's a guy who's a phenomenal passer. A really good leader. Done a ton of great things.
But only in one organization. So, got to be an exciting moment for him. We met with him last night with Mr. Tepper, Mrs. Tepper, Scott. You know, the whole crew, our whole leadership crew had a great visit with him. We're looking at everything.
But certainly the meeting with Derek was very good. Was there an offer made? Are you in the Derek Hart business right now? No.
No offer made. You know, just talking it through. Just wanting to hear from him, you know, what he's looking for.
And us express our interest. And the team that we have, is this the right fit? You know, I think Derek wants to figure out, is this the right fit? We want to figure out, is this the right fit?
You want to look at all the options. But last night was a good first step. Frank Reich and Scott Fitterer talking about Derek Carr and whether or not that could be a relationship that's consummated. Of course, he will have other options. The Jets, we know, are very interested in Derek. So then Fitterer has to answer a question of what about drafting a QB if it's not Derek Carr's top choice.
We have a lot of work to do over the next, you know, week or so here. Trying to figure out these draft guys. Because drafting and developing is probably the most efficient and right way to do it. Cost efficient way. You want to have the continuity. Grow with the young guy.
Bring him through a couple contracts. And that's the right way to do it. Sometimes you can't get up there high enough to get the guy that you want.
Or you don't see someone that second or third round that you're convicted on. And so you might have to, okay, we're going to go this route again. But we don't plan on picking in the top ten again. You know, we're a team that's on the come. We're a team that's growing. So if you ever have a shot, maybe when you're picking nine, that's the time to do it. If not, it's going to be a lot more expensive later on if there's a guy on the top five that you want to go get. Panthers GM Scott Fitterer on Sirius XM NFL Radio.
All options on the table. And yes, they are actually evaluating prospects in Indianapolis, though. Most of the focus has been on current players, not future players. Terry Fontenot is a quarterback who is now handing over the reins. Did I say a quarterback?
Sorry. He's a general manager of a team who's now handing over the reins to a young QB in Desmond Ritter. Thus the release of Marcus Mariota this week. First of all, with Marcus, great man, did some really good things for us when he was here. We really appreciate everything he did. We wish him the best moving forward. We love Desmond and we're not going to crown anybody or anoint anyone right now.
We're not in the business of doing that, but we really appreciate Desmond. Appreciate the things that he's done thus far down the stretch the last four games in the season. Had some ups and downs, but did some really good things. He handled adversity.
He performed in critical moments, so we've seen some really good things. And I know he's somewhere training right now, getting better. That is another franchise that could use a veteran backup QB with their young guy, Desmond Ritter. Of course, you need to have a viable backup. You never know if your QB is going to last an entire season. So there are some second-tier QBs that could end up signing deals as backups. Maybe one-year deals where they have the chance to prove it should they get an opportunity. In Seattle, we know they would like to have Geno Smith back.
However, the deal is not done. Pete Carroll, he's such a jokester. Also on Sirius X and Metaphal Radio, he's asked about the future of that quarterback position with the Seahawks. I have been throwing a lot, and I've been working at it. Are you still wearing the glove? Oh, yeah. The glove helps.
That changed everything. We're in a very deep negotiation situation with Geno right now. Drew did a nice job for us last year, and we'd love to have him back and keep rolling with us.
So there's a lot going on. There's a big quarterback market, and then there's the guys in the draft, which add to the whole equation, which is really exciting for us. Because there's some good ballplayers there, and we're up far enough where we got a shot. Pete, he's one of a kind.
I'm a big fan. He could coach a water bottle and a pair of socks, and Geno Smith is testament to that. I know Geno wants to return there as well. You know what's better than talking about finding a quarterback at the combine? How about not having to talk about finding a quarterback at the combine?
Believe it or not, that's where the Lions and Dan Campbell are right now. Golf did a heck of a job for us. Look, he's no different than the rest of us. Talking about that crew that we had in 2021, he's very much a pivotal piece of that. He had to go through. We were all drug through the ringer. It was tough.
Through the what? That includes him. We were all in the same boat. I tell you what, man, it's a credit to Ben Johnson, credit to him as a player to want to improve. And so what he's done is, and what we were hopeful and thought we were going to get is a guy who, man, he's our guy. He's bought us time here. We believe we can win with Jared Goff. And in the meantime, we also know he's not going to be here for the next 10 years. I mean, it's not like Jared Goff's a rookie. So certainly our eyes are on him and potentially a quarterback.
And the question is, where do you acquire that at? And that's something that Brad and I kick around all the time. But we don't feel like we're pressed right now. We don't feel like we're pressed.
Dan Campbell on CBS Sports HQ. I like it. I swear to you, I'm not a lunatic. I swear to God, I'm not a lunatic.
He sounds very calm at the combine. It helps when you have come off a season in which you've made major strides, you've knocked the Packers out of the playoffs in your last game of the year, and you've got a quarterback. So you've got time.
I don't know what it says. I'm just rambling right now. Just a great way to look at it. Jared Goff bought us time. I love that from Dan Campbell.
Let's see, NFC East now. The veteran experiment with Carson Wentz did not work for the Washington commanders. Here's Martin Mayhew. The process, I think, was a good one. I mean, we evaluated a ton of different options, directions that we could possibly go, and we felt like Carson was the guy we had consensus on. We felt strongly about him and his ability.
The guy's very talented, without question. Wasn't a great fit for what we were doing offensively. It didn't work out for us. But he's an awesome dude, really good locker room guy, unlike some of the stories that I heard, and he's a really good football player. So I'm hopeful things work out for him this offseason.
He finds another home. Again, Sam Howell is your QB one, though they need to have some competition for him as well. Last one in the NFC East. They're not looking for a new quarterback in Dallas, but they do have new coaches and a new voice. Mike McCarthy will be calling plays, and he and Dak Prescott will get a whole lot closer. And maybe it's me, but I think he sounds giddy. We all can use a new voice.
We all can use a sense of motivation and challenge and so forth. This is a new challenge for him. These are his words. He's very excited about it. And I just think like anything, he's had a chance to go from the different variations of the offense that was in place. He's getting ready to take another turn as far as a variation of what we're getting ready to do. We're going to build it off of what he has established. My decision to stay with his concepts and so forth is still intact because I wouldn't have did what I did in 2020 if I still didn't believe in him. And we obviously as an organization, myself included, feel very strongly about him as our future.
And we will definitely build this thing around him. This is the most fun I've had since I've been in Dallas. I mean, just to be in the meeting room, we're getting with the coaches full time. We've been getting it just to go 8 to 1130 and break, and you've been talking nothing but skiing. I haven't had that.
So that part's different. I told you, giddy Mike McCarthy. From Kellen Moore, who's now with the Chargers, to Mike McCarthy in Dak's ear. First time calling plays for Mike since he took over as the head coach of the Cowboys. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS Sports Radio. After the update, it's not QB news. It's the opposite of QB news, actually. Aaron Rodgers describing his darkness retreat and things that happened in the darkness.
And I don't know, Jay says I have to play it. I'm not sure that I'm going to. We will see. One more thing. I know a lot of the headlines coming out of the combine and out of Indianapolis have been about future.
I'm sorry about present as opposed to future. But you may have seen these headlines or read this story about Jalen Carter, who's coming out of Georgia, is one of the top prospects that we could see go very high in the draft, if not number one. And he has now been charged with reckless driving and racing in connection with that crash that killed a teammate. Do you remember hearing about this last month, a teammate and a recruiting staffing member? Actually, it wasn't even last month. It was farther back than that.
It was in January. And the authorities have indicated that there there definitely was alcohol and high rate of speed involved. In fact, the recruiting coordinator, the staffer that that was driving the vehicle that got into the really terrible crash with the two young people who died, that vehicle was traveling one hundred and four miles per hour. And what the authorities are saying now is that you've got another vehicle that's on camera in multiple places. Seemingly racing with the vehicle that was driven by by the young woman who died. So Chandler LaCroix was her name. Devin Willock was the old lineman for the Bulldogs. They were in one car and they've got video of this other car and they're weaving in and out of traffic.
They're not only driving up the center of, you know, into turn lanes and driving up the center of this road, but they're also weaving into oncoming traffic at very high rates of speed. And so the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported yesterday that Jalen Carter, who's another former member of the team, he was present there, but he didn't wait for authorities to get there. He left the scene. And then when they he actually came back, I think, according to the reports, he came back later. And his stories about what happened, there were different versions.
His stories were erratic. And so he was booked for reckless driving and racing on highways and streets on Wednesday night. He was released after posting bond. These are both misdemeanors. And he was supposed to speak with reporters on Wednesday at the Combine. But later that was that was pulled from the schedule and the kibosh was put on it. Carter did put a statement out on social in which he says he expects to be fully exonerated.
He says he was not racing. Authorities, though, feel like they have enough to charge him. I don't know if this impacts his draft status. It's up to the individual teams and the GMs and the coaches that are making the decisions. Obviously, a very talented player.
But at least this has come up where he's been charged in this accident in which two young people died, including one of his teammates. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence. You are listening to the After Hours podcast. I'm under contract with the factors for sure.
So if I decide to play like first is a conversation with them. Where are you guys at? Honest.
I've been there 18 years and I have so much love for Green Bay. I mean, 18 years. That's a teenager. There's a finality to the decision. I don't make it lightly. I don't want to drag anybody around. Look, I'm answering questions about it because I got asked about it. I'm talking about it because it's important to me.
You don't like it when you think it's drama and being a diva or whatever. Just do it up. Only Aaron Rodgers can turn no news into news.
Man alive. This is one of my favorite Lone Star songs, by the way. It goes way back to when I was first falling in love with country music.
And I used to have this entire song memorized. We think it applies to Aaron who swears he does not want to end his career the way that Brett Favre ended his career with the Green Bay Packers. It's best for anybody who has an interest in this to make a decision sooner rather than later.
You think? I think it applies to everybody who has an interest in this to make a decision sooner rather than later. And then in 2008, he actually did retire in March and then kind of said, no, no, no, actually in June after OTAs, I actually want to come back and play. And then that's when I've been traded to the Jets and there was obviously a lot of tension that summer. But for for everybody involved directly and indirectly, it's best for a decision earlier.
And I feel I feel really good about about the conversations that that are going to be had that have been had. I don't think Brian Guttenkutz feels the same way, but I assume those conversations will take place at some time. Am I the only one who who feels like he has a blind spot when it comes to this? Do we not remember what he did two years ago in the offseason and just went AWOL and told no one anything? Maybe a couple of his teammates knew, but for the most part, we spent an entire offseason not hearing from Aaron Rodgers.
I know some of you would prefer that. We spent an entire offseason not having any idea if he was playing, not playing for the Packers, not the Packers. That's a bit ironic. No, he's criticizing the end of Brett's career or at least highlighting that he doesn't want to go out like that. But two offseasons ago, that's exactly what he did. After Jordan Love got drafted and the team moved up to get him in the first round, he went radio silent for the entire offseason other than to tell us he drank four fingers of tequila or something like that. And then he disappeared only to show up right before training camp and spend 30 minutes ripping the organization.
That's what he did. This current audio comes from the Aubrey Marcus podcast where he's talking about his darkness retreat. And I don't know, I kind of feel like if you're still talking about football, if you're still looking ahead, you've made the decision at least not to retire. You and the Packers still need to talk about if you play in Green Bay or if you go somewhere else. But seems as though post darkness retreat that he's still very much into the football realm, into football.
And in fact, doesn't even want to separate his life from his career anymore. There is life and then there is football. And the reason I set it up like that was because I never wanted to be just a football player because I'm a smart guy who went on Jeopardy and won and hosted Jeopardy. And I'm interested in all these other things. And look how don't pigeonhole me is just a football player. I'm not a dumb jock. And I fought so hard for this.
What seems now ridiculous way to differentiate my life or private life and my career. But what hit me in the darkness was that my life is football, my life and football are connected. And that's totally OK. What figuratively hit me in the darkness.
I hope there was nothing that literally hit him in the darkness, though he did talk about how there were some safety hazards in the darkness. It's four steps, medium sized steps to the bathroom. Only thing I can really is this wall on the left here besides the bed. And then once you get to the bathtub, you take a right.
And it's about three steps. You got to watch out for this big hook that's coming out of the wall. They got a big hook on the wall. It's nice. It was a dangerous potentially. If you didn't put the towel, I put the towel over the it was it was it was a towel hook.
When I was just standing there that I was sitting there that I was like, that would be really dangerous. Aaron Rodgers with his guru of sorts. Aubrey Marcus, this is the podcast that they did.
It was dropped on Wednesday. It was recorded, obviously, and it was an hour and forty one minutes of. His experience and not as much about football, more about life. Aubrey clearly is in his inner circle. It's the whole Pancha Karma, ayahuasca thing.
And so, yeah, he has indicated that. It was the exact same feeling seeing you walk across the dining room table or from the room you're staying in into where I was at in the dining room. It was the same feeling I got when I opened my eyes out of darkness.
And that was just an overwhelming sense of love for life. I don't know who's walking on tables. I'm not even sure I get that. I'd have to have more context.
But like I said, Aubrey is in his inner circle. All right. Jay told me I had to play this because if we don't, we're not doing our our job as as a radio show. So I'm just warning you, it's TMI.
In fact, I if you don't want to hear it, stick your fingers in your ears and scream out loud. This is him talking about his commode. My dumps were super smooth.
And in my mind, now this is my own rationalization. They were they were all two wipers. They were two wipers and done. I told you I was going to let you hear it and then I was just going to leave. I'm leaving. It's enough to make me want to leave this place for four days. Gross.
Are you proud of yourself now, Jay, that we actually got it on the show? I don't know anymore. Disgusting. Just absolutely too much information. I can put up with a lot for the sake of good radio because it's funny.
But that is why would anyone want to know that? Gross. On the Aubrey Marcus podcast, if you'd like more. I am off until Tuesday, headed to the airport soon to visit mom. Have a great long weekend. It's after hours on CBS Sports Radio.
