Socialism can't exist without capitalism. It is the textbook definition of a parasite that cannot exist without a host. The parasite, socialism, the confiscation and redistribution of wealth, And then the host Off of which this parasite feeds the hardworking, taxpaying, beleaguered citizens and the recipient of the government confiscation of their earnings. The recipients are those that are on the receiving end of the entitlement programs. It's like Margaret Thatcher famously said, it's repeated all the time, but it's worth pondering.
Socialism is great until you run out of other people's money. Hi, Alex McFarland here. Welcome to the program. This is part two in our look at freedom or socialism: a constitutional and biblical perspective. Last week I began this analysis of socialism, and our programs, our conferences, our camps, our events are about biblical worldview.
My calling is to spread the gospel. But as Matthew 28 says, lest anyone think that a topic like economics or government or socialism is off limits for a minister, Matthew 28. 18 through 20, Jesus says, make disciples of all nations. Yes, but he also goes on and says, teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And the Word of God, as we said last week, has much to say about economics.
And there has never been a philosophy that has failed more. Universally failed more spectacularly than the dogma of socialism. And everywhere it's gone, my goodness.
Socialism has just bred crushing poverty, famines, wars, and just the body count. And the the human misery and the destruction and degradation left by socialism is the record of history. And yet Surprisingly, there are academics, even more and more Democrat-elected officials, and impressionable young people that have drunk the intoxicating Kool-Aid and the empty false promises of socialism. But do you know, even apart from socialism, you and I today, with the devalued dollar, have already been the recipients of a theft. You know, Alan Greenspan died not too long ago, and very famously, he was the chairman of the Federal Reserve for a lot of years.
And I well remember back in the 1980s, During an economic boom. And of course, over the last 40 years, the economy in America has been in some ways like a roller coaster. But I remember it dawned on me way back then that it was Alan Greenspan that really ran the economy in America for good or for ill. And they called him the maestro, the money maestro. But a lot of people don't realize that in the 1960s, in fact, I think it was 1966, Alan Greenspan wrote an essay on gold.
The title was quote, Gold and Economic Freedom. And here's what Alan Greenspan wrote so long ago: He said, Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the hidden confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process. Gold, said Alan Greenspan, the late Great Alan Greensban Gold stands as a protector of property rights. A year ago, when we had Dinesh D'Souza speak in our Conversations That Matter speaker series, Dinesh talked about this: how a house, let's say 40 years ago, a very, very nice house, might have been $100,000, $125,000.
And that same house today might be $550,000 to $700,000. He said, look, two by fours and bricks haven't gone up that much. He said, the reason that your housing dollar buys so much less today The reason that it takes five times more housing dollars today. rather than thirty, thirty five years ago, is because the dollar has been devalued. He said, you've been robbed.
Your dollar doesn't buy nearly as much. And I want to elaborate, because socialism is bad enough. uh the crashing of the economy. I mean, the ever-shrinking pool of taxpaying employed citizens. Shrinks.
And more and more young people, not all, but many, and I know because our ministry, we have the privilege of being in front of thousands of teens and young adults every year. They get entry-level jobs, and very often they stay in jobs that in times past would have only maybe been for a season. And look, I respect all noble work, and Lord knows I've traded time for money. on a pretty much daily basis since I was about You know, nine or ten years old. Work is just such a sacred blessing.
I thank God for it. But it is indeed sad that more and more government largesse the entitlement programmes and the fat and the waste in the budget And then, God help us, the looming specter of socialism. Look, our economy has already been siphoned off. Through the devaluing of the dollar.
So back to Greenspan, in the 1960s, Alan Greenspan wrote this article, very influential article, by the way, Gold and Economic Freedom. And he talked about the importance of backing the economy with gold. It was called the gold standard. And we really ought to get back to it. And the thirty one point three trillion dollar deficit that's going up daily by the billions, that's something that we all, frankly, should pray about.
Because we're fast reaching the point, and maybe we're almost there, where the entirety of the GDP. Would be needed to pay interest on the debt, not principal, plus the entitlements, plus. uh whatever crumbs can be Allocated for national defense. And I know the more left-leaning of the politicians, the more they. don't want to fund the military.
But Alan Greenspan said, quote, in the absence of the gold standard there is no way to protect savings from confiscation through inflation. Confiscation through inflation. Think about that. You say, nobody's confiscated my money.
Well, Alan Greenspan says, confiscation through inflation. There is no safe store of value. The financial policy of the welfare state requires that there be no way for the owners of wealth to protect themselves. Deficit spending is simply a scheme for the confiscation of wealth. Gold stands in the way of this insidious process.
It stands as the protector of property rights. And part of the reason that I'm belaboring this point and bringing this up is in God's Word. You, the worker, are worthy of your hire. You should keep what you earn. I understand there's taxes, and um I call taxes, you know, the the annual dues for Club America.
But the way that the U.S. government Through wasteful programs and endless welfare and entitlements, and absolutely burning up the money that you earn by the sweat of your brow, it's immoral, it's wrong. And it's time that every citizen care, protection. Pray. vote, be informed, influence others.
But it's time that we learn How this thing called America and the economy works. And may God deliver us from the further encroachment of socialism. We've got a brief break. Stay tuned. We're coming back after this.

Welcome back to the Alex McFarlane Show. Welcome back to the program. Alex McFarland here. We're talking about the fact that America really stands at a crossroads. The path that we have been on for 250 years: liberty, private property, religious freedom, personal responsibility.
The other potential path that many seem enamored with. Centralized government, economic control, dependence upon the state. And as we said last time, the great quote by Dennis Prager, whom we've interviewed, Dennis Prager, wisely noted: socialism spends the money that capitalism creates. We said in the first segment that socialism is a parasite that needs a host, and friend, that host is you. And it's connected to your hours of work and labor and your wealth.
And socialism assumes that government knows better than individuals. Last time we talked about some of the presuppositions that drive the belief, I would say the misbelief or the delusion that socialism will build a better America. For one, there is the assumption of evolution. You've got to understand that when Darwin in 1859 published On the Origin of Species, By the end of the 1800s, the dawn of the 20th century, all academic disciplines were re-envisioned in light of evolution. Evolution was just this assumed reality that pervaded the universe.
And it was not just the assumed evolution of biological life, there was the evolution of culture, the evolution of religion. And you probably, unless your pastor has been thoroughly trained in apologetics and worldview, I can virtually guarantee that three-fourths of everyone hearing this program, if you're a part of a church, Probably your pastor was influenced, if they went to one of the traditional seminaries, by theology fed through the grid of evolution. And rather than God's word, there was the documentary hypothesis. Rather than Moses writing the first five books of the Bible, they evolved. And rather than God revealing Himself to Abraham and to Israel, there was the idea.
And I mean, this is even in conservative circles sometimes, that Scripture evolved and it wasn't the holy word of God once delivered, but there were redactors and editors. And so I cannot overstate how pervasive and influential this assumed The reality of evolution has been, and it has touched economics as well. And there's just this assumption that we can. Deficit, spend, deficit, live, tax and borrow our way to prosperity, and somehow some natural selection of the mint will rescue us, and that's false. It's like Margaret Thatcher said: the worst enemy of socialism is not capitalism, it's reality.
And so there's the assumption, the presupposition of evolution, and then scarcity, this assumption that there's a finite pi. And the liberals, you hear this on almost every interview with a liberal, there is this non-sequitur. In other words, it doesn't follow that if you have a meal tonight, conversely, somewhere on the other side of the planet, somebody else is going hungry. That's just not the way it works. Poverty is a terrible thing.
We don't like poverty. We want a meal on everybody's table, of course. But if you are one of the haves, it doesn't follow at all that that came at the expense of someone else who simultaneously has not. And this is related, this scarcity. And the fragility of the planet is related to the finite pi economics.
That if the physical limits of the earth are hit on natural resources, then economic opportunity will be gone and that people will go hungry. If capitalism is allowed to exist, it's going to make more and more people hungry. That is just not reality. In fact, quite the opposite. The more people have had economic freedom.
to work, keep what they earn, build families, buy houses. As Adam Smith would say, the invisible hand moves the needle upward for everybody. And then there's the assumption of victimhood. And it's related to this As Churchill would say, that Socialism is the creed of envy. That if you have what you need, somebody else is a victim, and businesses and profit always.
comes at the expense of the the victim and the downtrodden. That's part of the assumption. I was on a show a year ago and uh this person kept saying how American companies make profit and that's obscene, obscene. And keep in mind, the very same people that believe business being profitable. is obscene.
Those people don't think it's obscene to kill babies in utero. They don't think it's obscene to castrate children. They don't think it's obscene to tell lies to masses of the population and to tear down or attempt to tear down the greatest country in the history of the world. And so there's so much at play here that we have to speak out against because, let me say this: as a Christian, You know, just as any economy depends on at least some degree of capitalism.
Well, Christianity and the Great Commission And the world missions depends on having resources. The gospel is free, but it takes resources to deliver that free message. And I've said it many times, you can do missions. Only in a context of liberty, stability, and prosperity.
Now you can do evangelism anywhere. If you're chained to the wall of a cell, you can look at your other inmates and say, believe in Jesus, be saved. But to do world missions. You need means Uh you need Affluence to fund the spread of the gospel. And so we're going to continue.
We've got to take a break in just a moment. But remember the eighth commandment. Thou shalt not steal. And that would include the government. We talked about that last week.
When we come back, we're going to delve more deeply in the problems of socialism and with a plea for realism. We're going to try to encourage people to pray for America and may God. Intervene such that we would stay on the path of liberty, freedom, and yes, responsibility. Because let's remember what we've said, 2 Thessalonians 3.10, If anyone is not willing to work, neither should he eat.
Now Karl Marx cried out along with Friedrich Engels. and the Communist Manifesto, Workers of the World Unite. Marx wrote, The theory of the communist is summed up in a single sentence: the abolition of private property. That's ungodly. We must stand against it.

You know, Winston Churchill very famously said about socialism that he said the inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings.
the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries. The thing about it, in a capitalistic society, the bad news is you're going to have to work hard. I mean, that's only bad news if You um don't especially care for a direct correlation between work and reward And I understand that some people aren't able to work, and that's why, really, for 2,000 years in Western civilization, the church has led out in terms of charity and benevolence. But in a socialistic society, not only does it not Do any good to work harder, to assert oneself, to live within one's means. There's just no incentive.
And in fact, a socialistic society is a disincentive for work and industry, and many have documented. how all of the blessings of the modern world From transportation to airplanes to computers to air conditioning. Virtually all of the great medical advancements They came about in spite of government intrusion and certainly not because of it. It's been the free market economy that has put more food on more tables, given more people control of their own destiny. And as Christian citizens, we should care deeply for the poor and defend the vulnerable.
and practice generosity, but we must also recognize the distinction between compassionate voluntary service and coercive government control.
Now, as a free people, guided by biblical morality and protected by constitutional government. extraordinary things can be accomplished. through personal initiative, through families, churches, charities, businesses, and local communities and America's enduring strength has never been found in the concentration of power. the the centralization of the economy, the law enforcement, the education. In fact, one of the huge problems with America right now has been government education.
when home schooling and families had a greater lead in the lives of educating their children. And then the schools really emerged from out of the Christian churches. Literacy In fact, in the colonies literacy was promoted. and children were taught Uh very very often little children of white and black. families.
were brought into the church house, taught to read. Why? because they could read God's Word. And the strength of America has not been government centralized control of production, the economy, the distribution of the fruits of the economy. Yeah.
that rugged individualism, as Rodney Stark, the twice Pulitzer nominated sociologist and historian, wrote, the Iron Protestant work ethic.
Now, Friedrich, Bastia, He was a French economist. He said this, quote, When the law is used to take from some and give to others, it ceases to protect liberty and becomes an instrument of plunder. That's not justice, it is legal plunder. And that's like what Alan Greenspan said as we began the program, the government stealing, sometimes confiscatory taxation, and sometimes, although people don't realize it, they've been robbed by the devaluing of the US dollar. But when the government is deputized to take confiscate redistribute and give away Liberty has been has already been compromised.
and the French economist was right. Our freedom And the founders keenly understood this, that our rights come from God. The role of government is not to give you rights, but to guard the rights you've inherently been given from God. The greatness of America has been found in freedom under God. and that is being jeopardized severely by the current infatuation with socialism.
Please pray for America please be informed. And please vote. Vote constitutionally. and vote American. Marxism and Islam threaten.
