Paul the Apostle's motivation and goal in life was to please Christ, and he believed that this was the purpose for which he was made. He wrote that we will be rewarded in heaven based on our works, and that our goal should be to be well pleasing to God. This is in contrast to the world's philosophy, which tells us to live to please ourselves, but Paul found that the more he lived to please Christ, the more satisfied he became.
