The Ghost Army of World War II was a secret deception unit that used sound effects, radio deception, and visual deception to fool the enemy and save lives. The unit, made up of artists, engineers, and other skilled individuals, was tasked with creating a multimedia mobile deception unit to trick the German army into thinking the U.S. Army was in one place when it was actually in another. The unit's techniques included using inflatable tanks, sound effects, and fake radio transmissions to create a convincing illusion. The Ghost Army's efforts were instrumental in the success of several key operations, including the Battle of the Bulge and the crossing of the Rhine River. The unit's story was largely unknown until recent years, and it was not until 2022 that the Congressional Gold Medal was awarded to the Ghost Army veterans for their bravery and sacrifice. [... more]
