I am off tomorrow as I'm gonna be on a flight in the morning to Kansas City and then once I get to Kansas City, I'm gonna get some barbecue and then I'm gonna make the three-hour drive to Lincoln, Nebraska. I'm going to Nebraska, Michigan, coming up on Saturday, so very excited for that. Not gonna be an eye on football this weekend as well.

So get in some me time this weekend before I'll be back on Monday. And just a reminder once again, on Monday I will be hosting for the foreseeable future in the interim, however they want me to say it. And I don't know when they're gonna make a permanent decision on the 3 to 6 p.m. Eastern time slot, but if you've been sleeping under a rock lately, DA's final day on CBS Sports Radio, Damon Amendolaro is tomorrow. So DA after tomorrow is moving to Sirius.

Maggie and Perloff who are on before us are going to morning drive, 6 to 10 a.m. Eastern are many of the same. CBS Sports Radio affiliate, Sirius XM Channel 158 and the Free Odyssey app. And management told me in the interim I will be hosting Monday through Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. Eastern, that is noon to 3 p.m. Pacific once again on many of these same CBS Sports Radio affiliates, Sirius XM Channel 158 and the Free Odyssey app until they tell me what the heck is going on from 3 to 6 p.m. Eastern on a full-time basis. I hope everyone that listens to us here from 6 to 10 p.m. Eastern listens a little bit earlier and then stays throughout the rest of the day here on CBS Sports Radio.

But if you can't, always do appreciate you tuning into this show, even if it's for a few seconds or if it's for the entirety of the four hours. Anyway, Cam Ward's going to stop by. We'll play that conversation for you again coming up in 40 minutes. The quarterback for the 16th ranked Washington State Cougars. But since I'm not here tomorrow, we'll treat today like a football Friday and let's get to a little one thought on every game this upcoming weekend in the National Football League. Well, right now, the Lions are up 17 to 3 up against the Green Bay Packers. Jordan Love is just intercepted, so the Lions are going to take the ball over first and go at Green Bay 7. This game's looking like a blowout early.

It's a good call there on hickey, liking the Lions in the game tonight. But we'll start off 9.30 a.m. This game's going to be played over the pond, across the pond at Wembley Stadium in London, Falcons and Jaguars.

Here's what I want to say. I know these games are usually sluggish. They come right down to the wire. They're usually ugly games just because of the travel. But I want to see the Jaguars offense finally show up. The Jaguars offense has been putrid. In week one, yes, Calver really had a good first half, but that team had to come from behind to beat the Colts.

In week two, they only put up 9 points against the Chiefs, and then they only put up 17 points in a blowout loss to the Houston Texans. I want to see if the Jacksonville Jaguars could finally get things going here offensively. I want to see Desmond Ritter play well. This is an offense where you go in before the season. I know he's, again, for the first time as the full-time starter with the Falcons in his career, but there's really no excuse to look at the offensive line, the running game, the weapons in the past game. He has everything he needs to succeed, and so far it's been pretty ugly on offense, or maybe not as explosive as it should be. I want to see if this is a game where Desmond Ritter can finally lean on his weapons and really maximize that offense to its full value. And you know what made no sense last week? Tyler Algier and Bijan Robinson combined for 17 carries.

The strength of this team cannot be Desmond Ritter, and you need to find a way to go back to your bread and butter of Bijan Robinson and Tyler Algier. By the way, Montgomery with a rushing touchdown extra point is good, so it's now 24-3. Lions up big on the pack.

Oh, this is ugly. Lions mauling the Packers. Dolphins and Bills. I know that they're not going to score 70 this week, Miami. I want to see, though, how high octane of an offense the Dolphins could have this week coming off the ridiculous performance of 70 points.

You know that there's going to be a drop-off, and it's going to be a pretty steep drop-off, but how steep of a drop-off will it be from the 70 that they had? Can they get to 30? You know, in the 30s this week, up against a good Bills defense is my question. On that note, the Bills defense, they don't really get a lot of heat, Rex. A lot of it goes to Josh Allen. They've been regressing, and this is a game where, again, against a high-powered offense, are you going to stop or slow down the Dolphins defense?

No, probably not. But make some plays. You had five turnovers last week against the commanders. Make a turnover to the changes of the game. Just be clutch. If the game was in reach, get a stop.

You need to. They haven't been able to do so. So I think that's a difference of nationally and locally. I think nationally you are right. We don't usually talk about the Bills defense, but I think locally, like if you're listening to the fan Rochester, if you're listening to WGR, I do believe the Bills defense does catch a lot of heat, because last year once Von Miller did come down, the defense never, you know, did go down with the injury. The defense never looked the same, and then also you go back to the game up against Kansas City, right? The game against Kansas City in the playoffs. You have 13 seconds, get off the field, and you win, and they weren't able to do that. Broncos and Bears.

Woof, woof, woof. What a bad game this is. I want to see where the awareness is from Russell Wilson and Justin Fields. You know, Wilson hasn't been horrible, but they are 0-3. Justin Fields has looked totally lost, but last year Russell Wilson didn't read the field well. And I want to see where the awareness is and where the decision-making is from both these quarterbacks in a game that is ugly, and I mean really ugly on paper. Who are the announcers for this game?

Great question, but boy oh boy, they must be cursing their producer. Well, that could be, well, it's really their network. That could either be AFC or NFC. That could be CBS or Fox, because it's an AFC and an NFC team. Both teams, I'm sure, or both networks are saying, now we're good. We'll take anything else, please.

Give me your thought here, and I'll try to look it up. I'm just saying, Justin Fields, in terms of how will he play within the offense. Look, you can say, eff it, I'm going to play on my instincts. You can't be a successful franchise quarterback by just winging it, by playing backyard football. He threw his coach under the bus. He tried to play by himself on Sunday.

How did that turn out against the Chiefs? You got, you need help. And if he admits he needs help, you'll see this offense get better.

If he tries to be the hero, it's only going to get worse. I'm laughing, not at your analysis, but who the broadcast team is here. Oh, man. I feel really bad. And I saw this guy today as well. It's Tiki.

Teek, huh? It's Andrew Catalan, Matty Ice, Tiki Barber, and Matt Ryan. Here's the take. Matt Ryan next week will be playing for the Jets, because after having to broadcast Broncos and Bears, he'll be begging to get sacked at a game 15 times behind that garbage offensive line for the New York Jets. Oh, what a terrible game to call Broncos and Bears. And Andrew Catalan, Tiki Barber, and Matt Ryan, quite frankly, deserve better.

But you know what? Sometimes when you just have two awful teams, because of how hilarious the game is going to be, it could actually be somewhat entertaining. But I feel bad and send my condolences to Catalan, Teek, and Matt Ryan that they have to call this game. Well, I was going to say, to steal a little something from our overreaction or proper reaction intro, as Al Michaels would say, sometimes a game is so bad, it's good. And that could be the case on Sunday.

That's a good job out of you. Ravens and Browns. I want to see how loud the dog pound is whenever Roquan Smith gets shown on the big screen. Because we played this earlier, Roquan Smith didn't just go after the dog pound. He said that he can't wait to beat the Cleveland Browns in front of their families.

Roquan Smith becomes enemy number one here in Cleveland with the Ravens going up against the Browns. Can Deshaun Watson make three plays in this game to win it? You look at the Browns defense there right now playing at an elite level.

Elite. So you think right now the Ravens would have a tough time, especially with their injuries, moving the ball. Deshaun, it's really on you.

Not even to win the game, just don't lose it. That's going to be his challenge this week. And also, Miles Garrett did something last week that I've never seen a defensive player do up against Tennessee. He caused a delay a game, and he would basically do something as if you were a bully on the playground and you're trying to toy with someone. He would start off at the right tackle, put his hands up in the air, everyone motioned to the right, and then he would run to the left tackle, everyone motioned to the left, and would be back and forth on the seesaw, and eventually did go for a delay a game.

That was crazy. Cincinnati and Tennessee. Assuming Joe Burrow is playing, I want to see if the Bengals can protect Joe Burrow, and if you get through the game pretty much untouched, and can also we find Jamar Chase finally getting in the end zone this week. I will bet Jamar Chase anytime touchdown this week. I hate to say this as someone who's not a Tennessee Titans fan and does not like Derek Henry. Can we get Derek Henry involved? I mean, he has been MIA big time this year. He's getting out snapped by Tajay Sharpe. Can we get the guy some carries? Is he hurt? I don't believe so.

Not that I've seen. I mean, he's playing every game. I know they're losing more times than not, so the game script kind of comes out from under you, but still, again, what is supposedly the centerpiece of your offense going here? If I'm him, I would have requested a trade the moment they got rid of Ajay Brown, but if I'm Derek Henry at this point, I'm really now requesting a trade.

Two years too late, but he should have done it. Rams and Colts. Do we know if Anthony Richardson is playing? It is not official, but it is trending in the right direction. So I would say yes, he's going to play, but not official. Okay, then I want to see how explosive Anthony Richardson could be. I really like what I was seeing in that second game before, unfortunately, he did leave the game with a concussion. And we know week one, towards the end of the game, he did leave with an injury as well in the final minute, but with Anthony Richardson, he had those two rushing touchdowns early on. I do believe out of all the quarterbacks, Shroud and Bryce Young and also Anthony Richardson, the three that did go in the first round, the most intrigued I was with any of those quarterbacks were Anthony Richardson, because we haven't seen him put it together, where we have seen Bryce Young put it together.

We have seen CJ Shroud put it together. So I'm intrigued to see if Anthony Richardson plays and how explosive he could be, not up against a good Rams defense, but you are playing up against a generational player in Aaron Donald, who looked like a force to be reckoned with once again last week. I'm interested in watching Sean McVay's play calling.

Puka Nakua? Puka Nakua, 2-2 Atwell, but how about running the ball? We saw Monday night, this offensive line could not block anyone on Cincinnati, and Matthew Stafford was getting crushed left and right. And part of that was, they just stopped running the ball, defensive line for Cincinnati pinned their ears back, and it was open season. Colts have a really good defensive line, and the Rams offensive line, Colts have a really good defensive line, Rams offensive line banged up, you cannot have Matthew Stafford sitting back there getting killed. It's time McVay, big time here to scheme up some good plays to get back in the win column. Bucks and Saints, I'm going to assume that Derek Carr isn't playing. I know it's not clear yet if he's going to play or not, but I would anticipate Jameis Winston is going to get the start for the Saints, and then I want to see how many turnovers the Bucks defense can create up against their former quarterback. And if like Lavonte David or Devin White or Shaq Barrett, any of these guys, Vida Veja will eat a W when they pick off one Jameis Winston.

I want to see Todd Bowles and how he coaches. This is the first, for this season, bump in adversity, getting handled by the Eagles at home. You've got to rally the troops. Like I said, you're probably going to be playing Jameis Winston at a backup quarterback. You've got to have your team ready to play.

Todd Bowles doesn't exactly exude personality and or doesn't really inspire a lot of people. You've got to have your guys ready to play, and you have to win this game. Have to win this game. And this game is in New Orleans, and you get Alvin Kamara back, too, off the three-game suspension. Which will be interesting to see how he is used. Oh, they're going to use him a lot, I would imagine, right? Fantasy owners, me included.

Let's go. You have Alvin Kamara? Oh, yeah.

I have your guy, Jonathan Taylor. What's going on with him? He coming back next week? I think so. Oh, you don't feel confident? No, he's coming back. No, no, no, no, but hold on. If I ask you that question for the start of the season, once they put him on the Pup List, you're like, oh, a thousand percent he's coming back.

You're like, I don't know. Your biggest concern is the fact that Zach Moss is running well right now, and they're probably going to split carriers for a long time. Well, if anything, that's a good thing for Jonathan Taylor. Oh, I agree. Preserve those legs, because some team will pay Jonathan Taylor this offseason.

The conserve your legs, I 100% agree with. I'm saying it from a fantasy owner's perspective. Like, you are not good for you in the sense that his usage will probably go down. Then the Colts are stupid, because they should be running Jonathan Taylor into the ground. Yeah.

Your organization is stupid. Hey, you got Zach Moss right now running over the Ravens. Let's go.

Please. Unstoppable. Commanders and Eagles. I do think the Eagles are going to win this game, but remember, the commanders did beat the Eagles the second time they played in the regular season last year. The first time was Carson Wentz, and he was basically a pinata for the Eagles defensive players. But the commanders started off 2-0, and then last week Sam Howell had a horrible day with four interceptions. Up against a very good defense in the Philadelphia Eagles, and you saw how great they were last week. Up against Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I want to see what the bounce-back performance is from Sam Howell. I don't think they're going to win the game, but can he be a good quarterback on Sunday?

On a similar note, I want to see what the play calling is like from Eric Bieni. Because, like you said, it was an all- I mean, outside Nathan Peterman throwing five picks in the first half, Sam Howell had one of the worst games you'll ever see in terms of turnovers from a quarterback. Are the commanders going to still let him rip, or is there maybe now all of a sudden a loss of confidence where now it's a very conservative game plan against the Eagles, where you're kind of almost like the Jetson Zach Wilson, asking your quarterback not to screw it up? Vikings and Panthers.

It's trending in the direction that Bryce Young is going to play, so back to the bench, Andy Dalton goes. I just want to see how this game ends. I don't think the Panthers will put up enough points like the Chargers did last week, but last week it was the Vikings charges just felt like it was going to end in a tie. That's what I said before the game.

This kind of has similar vibes. The Vikings are a better team, but their defense stinks, so the Panthers will be able to put up some points this week. But both of these teams are 0-3 and they're going nowhere, and I want to see if this could be a tie game where we get our first tie of the NFL season. I want to see how the Vikings come out. Look, the season is over. You're 0-3. I'm not going to sit here and say they're going to make the playoffs, but do you mail it in? Are you going to come out inspired here against what is a downtrodden and frankly bad Panthers team? And at least for a one-week play inspired, you get your first win. By the way, Mackenbone apologized to me today when I did my weekly hit on WF this week.

Wow! It took three games and they waved the white flag. They apologized. They said, Gelb told us before the year the Panthers were going to suck and so forth through the first three games, Gelb's looking pretty damn right.

Wow. So did they apologize for making fun of your Falcons take or no? And did they apologize for making fun of my Bucks take or is it just, hey, you were right about the Panthers not being good? I think it was just Gelb's right on the Panthers not being good if I remember the quote correctly. I think they owe both of us an apology.

That's only half-hearted. It's tough to really stake that flag in the ground in terms of the other teams when all of those other teams inside the NFC South did lose last week. But hey, for two teams that two people on this show picked to win the division, that was the first loss of the year for two of those teams. Okay. If that's the moral victory you want to take, you're a moral victory guy, I'm not.

I'll spin it around, no problem. Steelers and Texans, I think this is a sneaky, intriguing quarterback matchup. C.J. Stroud has been good through the first three games of the season. Kenny Pickett has been up and down. I want to see where the difference is between a first-year quarterback and a second-year quarterback and see how these two quarterbacks play with the Texans coming off that big win and the Steelers also coming off a win up against the Las Vegas Raiders. I want to see what the run game for Pittsburgh looks like.

It's been really, it's not been a factor for the large part of Najah Harris being there. You've got to be able to establish a run here against a Texans defense that is susceptible to the run. See if you can get something going here and develop some sort of balance on offense. That's really where if you're going to get success from Kenny Pickett, it's going to come because there is a threat of a run game, which right now so far through really three weeks has not been there a lot. So I did see Austin Eckler's back at practice. He said week four is a possibility, but we don't know if Austin Eckler is going to play. You know who I'm interested in this weekend? Because now you have Mike Williams being out for the year. I'm just curious what Quinnen Johnston does this weekend. He is someone, you're going up against a bad Raiders defense.

He was great at TCU when he was on the field. Now they're going to ask more out of him in a game that you have to win if you're the Chargers. The Chargers have to get to two and two before they play Dallas and Kansas City.

They have to split one of those games. If the Chargers have to start off 0-2 after the Kansas City game are able to sit there in a spot where they are 3-2, that would be a heck of a job by the Los Angeles Chargers after a 3-2 start. They have to win this week, get to 2-2, and they have to split between the Cowboys and the Chiefs. On that note, watching the Chargers defense, but then you're back in the mix, and part of getting back in the mix is having a good defense. There's a lot of names on that Chargers defense that out of their credit last week made the clutch play when they had to get in the interception in the end zone.

Maybe next time don't let it get that close to losing the game, but continue to make clutch plays and carry over that performance into this week. Patriots and Cowboys, I guess my thought is, this game's going to be a blowout. That's coming from a Patriot fan. The Patriots offense has not been able to find the end zone. This Cowboys defense, I know that the Cardinals beat the Cowboys last week, but this Cowboys defense is going to tee off on Mac Jones and the Patriots. And I know the Patriots have, you know, in the last 20 years dominated the Dallas Cowboys, but it ain't happening on Sunday. This could be Cowboys win and win big.

I'm watching one thing, and it's in the pregame. What is the gift Jerry Jones is getting Zeke Elliott? He said at 105.3, the fan, there was some sort of surprise. Will Dak wrap up the gift? Did Dak wrap up the gift? It's going to be more than just a video.

It's not going to be just a tribute video. What is Jerry going to do for really one of maybe the Cowboys he truly loves the most? Did you see Chris Christie was with Jerry Jones last week? I did, yes. I think Chris Christie and Jerry Jones do the Zeke, what is it, the crop top? Is that what they call it? The crop top, yes. I think they walk out in a Dallas Cowboys crop top or a Zeke Elliott crop top and then take it off their bodies and sign it and give it to a Zeke Elliott. If you're Zeke, are you putting a signed Chris Christie crop top? Is that going to, you know, go right in the front of the mantle?

If I have a dog, I'm using it to pick up the crap of the dog. Yeah, I would agree with that. Cardinals and 49ers. I want to see if the Cardinals have some fight this week. The last three weeks, they've been gritty and they're one and two and it's actually a pretty one and two.

I can't even crush them for the first two games. I know the giant game they blew, but you know, who would've ever thought they would've been up by that many points? I want to see if the Jonathan Ginn and Grit can continue here where they keep it within the two touchdown spread up against the Niners. I don't think that's going to be the case, but I think this is when it unravels for the Cardinals, but I want to see if they can cover the spread here. I want to see what the Brock Purdy passing game looks like. Again, this has been a scrappy, kind of fun Cardinals team to watch so far. If you're Brock Purdy, just continue to do what you've been doing so far this year. Chiefs and Jets.

How many times they show Taylor Swift? That's the only reason to watch this game. Can we get a running clock? I'm going to watch to see if we're going to actually have a quarterback change. Sunday Night Football, it's still early in the season where plenty of Jets fans are going to go to this game. It's not going to be one of those deserted stadiums. You're going to hear the boos. You're going to hear the boos early. It was also rainy to give Jets fans credit. Sugar Ray Martel texted me, he goes, this place is pretty empty.

Let's see if that fan's teeth falls out once again. I'm saying it was pouring rain. I don't care. I'm just saying.

So if it's nicer weather than it should be, I'm just saying. I would be there if it was me, if it was my team, but nonetheless, I digress. You're going to hear the boos. Is Robert Salah going to make a change to Tim Boyle and Yank Zach Wilson after there's probably five straight three-and-outs?

You've got to make a move. Seahawks and Giants. I want to see the better quarterback is between Juno Smith and Daniel Jones. That's my thought on this game this weekend. I want to see the Seahawks take care of business. Giants are really banged up, especially offense, so this should not, in theory, be a game, especially defensively for Seattle.

Slam the door early and not even really give Giants fans hope. What do you think the spread is on this one, by the way, if you had to take a guess? Giants, Seahawks?

Yeah. I would say Seahawks minus three. Seahawks minus one. That's Vegas begging you to take Seattle.

Yeah, I think I would, even though I'm not a Geno guy. Well, yeah, I think it's tough to pick against Seattle, but if we're the two idiots that are saying if Vegas is telling us both to pick Seattle and we should, maybe it ends up going the other way. But I could have said the same thing before tonight's game, which I did say, but the Lions and the Packers are like, oh, Lions minus two, that seems fishy. Now the Lions are up 24 to three with five and a half to play in the first half. Lions are first and 10 at their own 24. We're coming on back NFL picks next.

Gotcha. So that tie after that stupid decision by Sean McVay, where I had a game one to kick a field goal when he was down by 10 points, actually somewhat. It's tough to say it helps me because it would have been a victory, but it prevents me from being down here in the pick so far. It hasn't hurt you maybe as much as you thought, we'll say.

Alrighty, I'll start off here. I look at the underdog pick because we have to give you one underdog pick each and every week out of the three picks. I'm going to take the Bucks plus the points this week. I don't understand why the Saints are three and a half point favorite.

Maybe the Saints or maybe Vegas does something that we don't know about the Saints. I don't think Derek Carr is going to play in this game, and if he does, I don't know how effective he will be. Bucks had a bad performance last week, but I think that defense will do a number on Jamis Winston or Derek Carr.

Too many points there. This game, at worst, is probably a field goal, so I will plus the three and a half points with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I have multiple underdogs, so this is one where we agree. Bucks plus three and a half, I'm with it, makes no sense.

Jamis Winston stinks. Bucks plus the points all day. Folks, so that's what you know if you're listening to this show right now. Fade, fade, fade, fade if Gelb and Hickey are on the same game.

Biggest lock of the week is now the Saints laying three and a half, even though we're both on the Bucks plus three and a half. But continue, my friend. You want to go here, or you want me to go back? Sure, I'll go. I'll go to the second upset special.

Let's change it up a little bit. Texans at home plus three. I like the way CJ Stroud is playing. They're a scrappy team coming off a dominant win over the Jaguars. Don't trust the Steelers offense.

Texans plus three at home, give it to me. You really have something against the Pittsburgh Steelers. I'm not saying it's a horrible pick, but does that go back to your days as a Penn Stater, where maybe you thought, there's a lot of Steelers fans, Eagles fans in Penn State country, that maybe the Steelers fan was a little bit insufferable?

Is that what this is? Steelers fans absolutely were insufferable, but no. Kenny Pickett's not good, and I'm sick of the hype in the offseason trying to tell me he's good. He's not good. He's not good. I'll keep on betting against him.

Yeah, I don't know what Kenny Pickett is, to be fair. I have not been able to see enough that makes me say he's horrible, or see enough that makes me say that he is the guy with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Alrighty, my next game, I'm actually picking against my team this week. I said it in the last segment, I don't think this game is going to be particularly close. The Patriots offense has been a mess. This is in a bizarre way to say it now, but a good get right spot for the Dallas Cowboys. I know the Patriots have a solid defense, but they'll be able to muster up enough points to the Cowboys to beat the Patriots and beat them by a touchdown. The Patriots, once they take two steps forward, they take a step back, like they cross midfield, and then the next thing you know, they just can't put the ball in the end zone. So I think Dallas wins this game big, so give me the Cowboys laying the six and a half points. For my final pick, sometimes you just, you know what, don't overthink it.

Take the ones that are there, just take the gifts. So I will take the Chiefs minus eight and a half on Sunday night. Zach Wilson stinks. Chiefs defense is actually very good. No way Jets are keeping this within single digits. Chiefs minus eight and a half all day. So you followed right behind me. You piggybacked me on the Bucs game, Bucs plus three and a half. Now I'm going to piggyback you here. This spread, I've seen it get as high to nine this week, nine and a half.

Marco, can you give me an explanation here? The Jets stink. I know the Jets are home. How is Vegas, watch, now the Jets win outright or the Jets make this a game. How has Vegas given us all a free pick this week with the Chiefs as an eight and a half point favorite? This seems like a lock. I'm actually with Hickey on this one.

Lions coming down. It was nine and a half yesterday. Yeah, right. Isn't that weird? Yes. I really, look, this is a, this is one of those. My home's not playing as Reed Sane.

Rest up, big fella. This is one of those where it's like, you know, they know something that we don't know because all signs point to the Jets can't score and the Chiefs defense is good. Has been good this year, yeah. And as much as the Jet defense is solid, can they really stop Patrick Holmes if he's on the field for 40 minutes?

It doesn't make sense that the line continues to come down and it dropped a full point in a day. Is this a new era then for the Jets with Mr. Era's tour herself or Mrs. Era's tour herself, Taylor Swift supposed to be in the building? You know, I.

Is it Taylor Swift hyped too much for the great Kansas City Chiefs and this is why they think it's going to come back to bite them in the you know what? You know, I didn't check. I know it's supposed to rain in the next day or two. Some talking flash flooding in the New York area. Is it supposed to be a monsoon on Sunday night that I'm unaware of? Like I didn't look that far into the weather. MetLife Stadium.

Maybe that's part of it too. I don't know. MetLife, I'm not a weather person here, but MetLife Stadium right now at 8 or 9 p.m. clear skies.

Rain supposed to be tomorrow and Saturday, Sunday according to weather.com clear skies. I have no answer to this because the idea that Zach Wilson, like, oh, now he figured it out or you know what? You know, Willie Gay, you know, really annoyed him and now he's going to be. Stop.

The guy hasn't been able to put it together in three years. And also, like even if you wanted to kind of play up, oh, maybe the Chiefs go enjoy a nice night out in the town of New York. All these teams, they pretty much stay in New Jersey anyway. Again, and let's be fair, they could be hungover and still win this game by more than nine points.

Wilson will still suck. You know, that's really that's not exactly what's going to put me on the other side of this. This is not the NBA where you're like, oh, a game at the Garden at one in the afternoon on a Sunday. You never know. They're not staying in the city. I don't care. I don't think they're not staying in the city.

This doesn't make a whole hell of a lot of sense, which is why the more you sniff at it, the more you probably psych yourself out. So here are the picks. I'm taking the Bucks plus three and a half, the Cowboys minus six and a half, the Chiefs minus eight and a half.

Hickey's going with the Bucks plus three and a half, the Texans plus three and the Chiefs minus eight and a half. We will take a break here on the Zach Gelb show on CBS Sports Radio. When we come on back, the Washington State Cougars are ranked 16th in the country. Cam Ward is off to a great start. The quarterback of the Washington State football team will join us.

You're listening to the Zach Gelb show. We continue this Zach Gelb show coast to coast on CBS Sports Radio. The Washington State Cougars are up to number 16th in the country following their big victory up against Oregon State. They're now 4-0, undefeated to start the 2023 season. And now joining us is their quarterback who has an incredible story in Cam Ward, who has nearly 1,400 passing yards this season and 13 passing touchdowns. And he's kind enough to join us on CBS Sports Radio.

Let me also add no interceptions as well, so big numbers there for the Washington State Cougars quarterback. Cam, appreciate the time as always. Congrats on the victory.

Thanks for doing this. And how you been? I've been good. You know, appreciate you having me.

Yeah, thanks so much for coming on. So coming off that four passing touchdown performance, then you also had a rushing touchdown as well up against Oregon State. I know the victory is the most important part, but what do you think you guys proved to the college football world with that big victory on Saturday evening? I think we proved a lot. Not only to out there, but to ourselves that we can compete with some of the best teams in the country. Especially after coming out with a win like we did versus a top 20 team at the time at Oregon State who has a great defense, a great offense, who's a well-disciplined team. You know, I think it proved a lot to this locker room that, you know, we're ready to go toe-to-toe with anybody. I'm just wondering, in this offseason, because last year was your first year playing FBS football, coming over from an FCS school. You had a good season individually last year. I'm just wondering, what did you really work on this offseason to get off to the great start that you are for this 2023 campaign? Really the biggest thing for me was, you know, just footwork and chemistry with my receivers.

You know, we've added three new, valuable pieces at receivers in Isaiah Hamilton, Josh Kelly, Kyle Williams. Those guys, they show up every day. They get better each and every day.

They push me each and every day. And just myself, personally, just the footwork part of it, it just allows me to just be more on time with those guys, along with Lincoln Victor, who made plays for us. So, you know, we're definitely seeing the benefits of what our hard work has shown, but we've just got to keep wanting to go do it each and every day. When everything is clicking for Cam Ward, and you're at your best, what type of quarterback do you think you could be in college football and then also moving forward after your college days? I think I'd be one of the best quarterbacks in college football, especially with the guys that I have around me, the guys who make plays with me.

I feel like, you know, you put me in a situation like I am right now, you know, you're going to see all the attributes come out. And, you know, I feel like the thing that separates me from other college quarterbacks is that I know how to lead a team, you know, from a couple different ways. And through four games of the season, you're undefeated, right? You're in the top 20.

The Pac-12 is loaded this year. You have 16 total touchdowns to your name. Do you feel like you could take that step this year and throw yourself into the Heisman Trophy conversation? I for sure do.

But, you know, I'm more of a, you know, live my life day in and day out, try to go through like every day. But, you know, if that was the case, I was able to get to New York by the end of the season. That would be a blessing for sure. But I just know if I take care and do my job each and every Saturday, my teammates, they show up and we all play for each other.

I feel like everyone will get what they want. Who are some QBs that are playing right now on Sundays that you kind of admire and that you look at and you try to model your game after? My biggest quarterback that I like watching is Pat Mahomes. You know, he's from Texas. I like to watch a lot of his policy when he was at Texas Tech at the time. Another quarterback was Aaron Rodgers, who's not playing right now, but just the way that he's calming the pocket, the way they create outside the pocket, his footwork is exceptional. I love watching Tua right now.

He's bombing right now. Just the different varieties of routes that his receivers run. So, you know, I like watching a lot of different quarterbacks, but those are the top three for sure. I think your story is fascinating as the quarterback of the Washington State Cougars, Cam Ward, is here with us. You're in incarnate word, which is an FCS school. You were there for two years. You put up big numbers and won a bunch of accolades.

And now you're with Washington State. Take me through your recruiting process going back to high school and how you did wind up at an FCS school. It was hard in high school for sure. I came out zero star recruit. I attended a lot of camps, whether it was a D3, D2, JUCO. If you were at the camp, I just wanted to, you know, put myself in the best position and try and get an offer from somewhere. My dad was emailing a lot of colleges.

We would never hear back from them. So eventually UIW had DME on Twitter and they wanted me to come to the camp. So I went there, balled out, but they didn't offer me until like six months later towards the end of my senior year.

That ended up being my only offer to FCS school. And so I took it and ran with it and was able to create some relationships with teammates that would last a lifetime. Coach Morris, Coach Leslie, those were really my two first quarterback coaches besides Coach Steve Van Meter.

So those guys that showed me along the way, you know, he'll forever, he'll forever be with me. Ended up hitting the transfer portal after two seasons at UIW. What we did there was exceptional. We were the first 10-win team at UIW my last season there. So to be able to do that, win a conference championship, I feel like the ring with me to this day, I carry it with me everywhere. And so ended up heading here at Washington State with Coach Morris, one of the best decisions that I made. You know, the bond that I created with the team when I first got here, it was crazy because we act like we knew each other from since we grew up. So, you know, the relationships that you get here in Pullman, you know, it's not like anything else while I've been. And the coaching staff here, the coaching staff here is they're very, they're very giving, I would say. We like, we always go to, well, right now we go to Coach Arbuckle's house. We always have been over there.

Other position groups do it a lot. And so, you know, just the lessons that I've learned already here at Washington State, they'll be with me forever. When you were a zero star recruit, it's got to be frustrating because you have to know what you're capable of to some extent. But did you like truly know that everything that you've gone on to accomplish now that that you had that in you?

Oh, yes, for sure. I say I wake up and tell myself that I'm one. I'm one of the greatest, you know, college quarterbacks right now.

I tell that to myself every day. But when I was a high school, I would go up against the four stars, the five stars, the ones that are in Texas. And I just always felt that I was better than those guys. But, you know, I never got the look that, you know, I wanted due to the author that I played in high school, which was Dwayne T. But, you know, everything has more reason, though.

And, you know, if I had to go back and do it over again, I would. I know that you're related, Cam Ward, the quarterback of the Washington State Cougars are up to 16th in the country undefeated. They're off this weekend. But you're related to Quinnen Jammer and then also Quandre Diggs. How have they been resources for you and kind of your football journey? They've been great resources for me.

Quandre has probably been the most resource for me, for sure. Text them really every week, every other week. We're just texting today. But, you know, when we talk about when I talk to him, we don't talk about football majority of time. We just talk about life. You know, what he feels like can get me to the next level. When we talk about football and really just how he's doing. You know, when he comes down back to our hometown, he always has crossfish bulls at his mom's house who lives one minute away from my mom. So, you know, it's always good times when I'm with him.

You know, sometimes just trying to get to his level. The Pac-12 is loaded this year. I know it's coming to a close and who knows what's going to be the future of Washington State football in terms of a conference. But going into last week, it seemed like everyone was talking about Oregon State. Did you guys kind of sense that disrespect? Did you feel like you were disrespected leading up to that game?

Not really, in my opinion. I mean, we don't really get into the media side of things. We really just tend to control what we control and that's why football, you know, just showing up every day to go to work. You know, we do those things.

We're sure everything in the future will take care of itself. Last thing that I'll ask you before we let you run. Your head football coach, Jake Dickert. What can you tell me about him? I know he was the interim in 2021, then got the head coaching job last season.

How's your relationship been with him? What type of football coach is he? That's the guy that you want to play for. Especially for me, he's the guy who tells me what I need to hear, not what I want to hear.

When I came here on my visit, it was only me, Coach Dickert, a couple of the recruiting assistants, and Coach Moore. So, you know, I got a chance to, you know, spend time with him, got a chance to meet his family, see what his kids were like. So, you know, playing for Coach Dickert, he's for sure one of the best head coaches I've played for, simply because he always keeps it real with his players. He always tells what we need to hear. And, you know, he's a real caring person.

Coach Dickert is not like any other coach in the country. And to be able to play for him, you know, it just means a lot. And, you know, he's the big reason why I am the man and person that I am today. Well, I really enjoyed the time today. Awesome story that you have, Cam Moore.

Thanks so much for doing it, and good luck the rest of the way and good health. Yes, sir. Thank you. I appreciate it.

Love that conversation. There he is, the quarterback of the Washington State Cougars in Cam Moore. Appreciate him joining us today. I'd also like to thank K.J. Wright for stopping by as well. And that's actually all the time that we do have today on this Thursday edition of the Zach Gelb show. I'm actually off tomorrow on my way to Kansas City, going to make a quick stop to get some barbecue before going on a little trip to Lincoln, Nebraska, to see Nebraska go up against Michigan this weekend. So looking forward to that experience. You can follow along on social media, Instagram and Twitter, where I'm always straight flexing.
