We continue this is at Gelb Show coast to coast on CBS Sports Radio getting set for week three of the NFL season. That gets going in just a bit with the New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers. Let's head out to the guest line right now and welcome in former Giants star wide receiver, Super Bowl champion, working on today on behalf of Captain Morgan and that is Victor Cruz. Vic, how you been? Appreciate the time. I've been good, man. No problem. Thanks for having me.

Well, thanks so much for coming on. So you know this. In the off season, Daniel Jones, right? Coming off a playoff victory. Got paid, is treated like he's the franchise quarterback, but there's one thing to be paid like a franchise quarterback.

There's another thing to play like it. When you watch Daniel Jones, do you see the franchise quarterback for the Giants? Well, after about six quarters. Yeah.

Yeah, I do. It took a game and a half to see it to see him just get comfortable and to see the receivers get comfortable around him and to see the decision-making improve and things like that. But yeah, I definitely see a guy that has taken this team under his wing and it feels like his team.

It feels like a guy that's making the right decisions out there. Putting his teammates in opportunistic areas of the field to make plays, hitting his big target and Darren Waller a bunch of times, which was fun to see. It was just a fun brand of football that they got going out there right now. Daniel Jones is at the forefront of it and really just proving, you know, why the Giants extended him and why he was worth the money that he was paid. So I think that second half was indicative of that.

And that was just a matter of continuing that, right? Obviously the task doesn't get any easier week to week, but I think he's prepared. I think he's comfortable in his position and where he is now and looking to build on what he did in the second half of last week's game. You had one of the all-time great underdog stories to see what Isaiah Hodgins continues to do week in and week out.

Just how do you process that? I'm a huge fan of Isaiah Hodgins, man. And the guy's just a baller. He just understands how to get open.

Some guys, you know, may not be fast or may not be big or may not be all of those things, but some guys just know how to get open. And I think he's one of those guys that can help this receiving core, can help this team be better. And look, we haven't had much depth at the wide receiver position in years past. So to have, you know, real depth there now with guys that can play and guys that are viable assets to this team, it's just a fun place to be.

I think those roles will get defined as the season progresses, but I think Hodgins is the guy that can help us and help this team overall. When you look at Jalen Hyatt picked in the third round, had that big catch to open up the second half. He had a great career at Tennessee. We also had a football player he could be last year. Just what type of football player do you see?

I see a very, very highly talented guy. I think a guy that can be, you know, a top five receiver in this league if his opportunity arises. I think he has all the intangibles. I think he can run as fast as Justin Jefferson. He reminds me of him and his stride length and his, you know, long arms and his ability to go up and catch the football.

I think he has all of those things. And I've been watching him obviously in camp prior to the season starting and seeing all of that and seeing his confidence is when he's running routes out there, he doesn't look like a rookie. He looks like a guy that understands route concepts, understands how to run those routes and get himself open. So it's going to be fun to watch him this year, kind of mature throughout the year and see just how many plays he can make and how good he can be for this team. I'm excited to watch. Victor Cruz here with us.

We'll talk about Captain Morgan and the great work he's doing with them once again in just a bit. Saquon Barkley not going to play tonight with the ankle injury. We all know running backs, right?

They're not getting rewarded financially. And now Saquon is playing on that final year of that contract, right? They found a way to give him a little bit more money, hopefully, if he reaches the incentives. When you look at Saquon, do you feel like he's still in the Giants' long-term plan or is it just the state of the running back position where it's the great unknown? No, I think obviously from a playing perspective, right? From an on-field perspective, of course, he's in the plans of what the Giants do. Of course, he's part of the game plan and the future of what they have going on because of his ability and his talent. And we saw that, you know, this past week, the things he does with the football in his hands and the things that he doesn't when he doesn't have the ball. Like when he's just getting fakes, how he garners the attention of the entire defense that you have to account for where he is. And that opens up so many other things out there on the football field.

So I think he's accounted for. I think he's a guy that's part of the Giants' future. It just sucks that the running back position, you know, especially prior to the season, they aren't helping themselves. You know, Nick Chubb has an unfortunate injury. Saquon Barkley has an injury. Running back for the Ravens is out for the season with the Achilles. Like it's just, you know, it's just almost proving the owners right in terms of their stance on the injury rate on running backs and not wanting to pay them what they're worth. And it just it's a tough spot to be in as a running back in the NFL nowadays. But I think they just got to keep plugging forward and keep playing and keep proving their worth and keep trying to keep themselves and their morale high, even though they know that they're putting their lives on the line out here and their bodies on the line each and every week.

And may not get compensated for it the way they see fit. Victor Cruz here with us. Whenever we talk about the best wide receiver in the NFL now, three names immediately come to mind. It's Justin Jefferson, Tyreke Hill, Devante Adams. Some people still put Jamar Chase in that conversation, even though he's off to a slow start. But we all know the player that he is.

For you, I think it's a difficult question. When you watch football, who do you think is the best wide receiver? Oh, man, it's tough to just pick one because, you know, all those receivers your name brings so many different things and so many different skill sets. But to me, it's it's got to be Tyreke Hill for me. I mean, the things that he does running, you know, route running wise, the way you can't even it doesn't matter what covers you play, like he can outrun it. He can also when you think he's going to go deep, you can break it down and still catch the ball short and run that for a big game. I mean, as I just think about defensive coordinators trying to prepare for something like that and how difficult that may be. Good luck.

And what type? Yeah. Like what type of defensive scheme can you even devise? And oh, not to mention, he's got a pretty good receiver number two over there in Jalen Waddle on the other side, who both of those guys can easily go for two thousand yards each.

Like, and that's not far fetched. It sounds like video game numbers, but those guys can absolutely go for fifteen hundred plus yards this year, each of them. And that's just such a great place for to a ton of our lower to be in because he has guys that he can just sit back and know that they're going to get open. But Tyreke Hill kind of stands out to me and just being able to do it all run deep, you know, short routes, screens, you know, just being the fastest one of the fastest guys, if not the fastest under his own, you know, in his own right, one of the fastest guys in the entire league. So he just brings so much to the game.

He's hard to stop. You know, on a national show, there isn't a day that goes by where we don't talk about the Cowboys. They're off to this crazy to start where they're blowing out teams. But then with that being said, we've seen the Cowboys the last two years back to back twelve win seasons and come up small in the playoffs. I know you don't like the Cowboys, but in terms of them on the field this year, you started to say, man, they're going to be a big problem.

Yeah, I mean, for sure. I think I was feeling that way last year a little bit because you kind of see that defense, you see them coming together. You see all the weapons they've added offensively as well. And that Prescott being a veteran now taking that next step as a quarterback like he knows the pressure. I mean, if you think there's pressure playing in New York, there's also pressure playing with that star in your helmet in Dallas as well. And he understands that.

And and I think, you know, when you watch them blowing teams out, I was unfortunately it was my team in week one, but just watching them. And then Michael Parsons is just an absolute animal. I mean, he's just like getting to the quarterback. He's lining up all over the field.

He can play any position. He's just one of those jack of all trades kind of guys that just change the complexion of any game once he gets going. So all of those things culminating, I think the Cowboys should have a pretty big year. I hate that they're in our division, obviously, but I think they have all the tools on paper, at least, and through the first two games to be really, really good. Are the Niners to you the best team in the NFL right now, or do you go someone else?

I'm definitely going to forty Niners. I feel like defensively from top to bottom, they just have it. And offensively with with Purdy and just Debo and Christian McCaffrey.

I mean, they got the exact players that they wanted to run Kyle Shanahan's offense effectively. And that's scary. And obviously, what later today or Thursday, you know, my my Giants play them on Thursday night. And it's going to be fun to watch. But that team is just clicking on all cylinders and they're playing with confidence. And teams that play like that this early in the season are typically tough to stop.

What advice would you give, by the way, Victor Cruz to Justin Fields? Because he's struggling right now. He's thinking too much.

I don't know if you saw the comments yesterday. He threw the coaching staff under the bus that had to do the walk it back after press conference saying, oh, the media took him out of context. Blah, blah, blah. When you have a young player struggling in a market like Chicago, that's never had a quarterback. The advice you give is what? I think is just continue to stick to what you know, continue to stick with like the grind, the work, the work ethic of it, the watching film, understanding what you did wrong, spending extra time on the field, correcting those mistakes, visualizing the plays that you can make out there while you're watching film. I think he needs to kind of go back to square one a little bit and kind of recalibrate and understand to make the best decision when he has the football in his hands and and make the big play when it's there or make the opportunity to make the big play when it's there. But don't force anything and don't try to make all the plays you can make in one series. Don't try to win the entire game in one play. I think he has to really understand what it's like to be, you know, bore me with completions. Just move the ball down the field efficiently.

Give it to your running back when it's time or you run the football when you see an opening like this. You know, quarterback is all about decision making. And I think if he can find a way to make the right decisions through and through, he'll be better. And I think he has all the skills to do so. And it's just a matter of putting him in position to do that. Last thing I'll ask you before we talk about Captain Morgan, if you were Garrett Wilson of the Jets, you go from having the high of Aaron Rodgers to now Zach Wilson. Would you be thinking to yourself, man, Joe Douglas has to go get me a new quarterback or is it just is what it is? And that's a tough place to be. And I think, you know, at this stage of the season, it's tough to go get a new quarterback and try to bring him up to speed and try to get him on the same page with Garrett.

That's going to be a few weeks before that can even happen. I think he's kind of has to, you know, work with what he's got. He's got to get in that room is that they've got to have immense conversation to make sure they're on the same page, continue to work through things on the football field.

Like it's going to take a concerned effort from everyone. All hands are on deck now for the Jets because of the injury to Aaron Rodgers. But Gary Wilson is a guy that has to get on the same page with Zach and Zach has to, you know, put his big boy pants on a little bit. He has another opportunity that's been given to him.

And it's up to him whether he squanders it or whether he rises up to the challenge and starts to make the plays that they've been wanting him to make there for a few years. I know you love Captain Morgan, but working with them for a few years. Tell me what you got cooking with them today. Yeah, I've been working with them for about three years now on top of the fan of the year experience, which you can go to go there and make and vote for those guys. Vote for yourself or or someone that you know that you feel like is an immense fan. You can go to Captain Morgan dot com slash fan of the year to go do that as well as follow the captain. And when we do return, I want to touch on the best wide receiver in the NFL conversation. That's a guy that made an all pro team. That's a guy in Victor Cruz that made a Pro Bowl in the NFL, won a Super Bowl, was a tremendous underdog story coming out of UMass and the way that he was able to get on to the Giants and end up being a really good player. And unfortunately, injuries did not elongate his career and kind of condense his career.

But for a while, Victor Cruz was a dominant player. And I thought his perspective on who the best wide receiver was in the NFL, he even said it was tough when you decide between Justin Jefferson and Tyreek Hill and Devante Adams, but he did go with Tyreek Hill. So ask this question. You could jump on in right now. 855-212-4CBS.

Victor Cruz just joined us. He said Tyree Kill. The poll question is who's the best wide receiver in the NFL? Tyree Kill, Justin Jefferson, Devonta Adams, or other. You can chime in at Zach Gelb at CBS Sports Radio.

I just saw something during the break, Hickey. And I want to test your college football mind here. Because I think you know so many obscure college football facts. And I also think you know a lot of times like the big super fan that's famous at a lot of these universities. Now, you're not the greatest with movies.

I'm not the greatest with movies either. But a pretty large celebrity. Not as big as The Rock last week doing the Pick'em segment as the guest picker. The celebrity picker for Colorado State with that matchup where it was such an event at Boulder last week. So it's not as big of a name as The Rock, but it's still an enormous name in the last 20 or so years. And there's actually a clue that we're going to get to that it's a movie that you've seen a thousand times probably.

But I did not know this person was in that movie. But let me just start you off. Game Day this weekend on Saturday.

They're at South Bend for the great matchup in the evening between Ohio State and Notre Dame. The first hint I'll give you. It is a famous actor who's a Notre Dame fan. Vince Vaughn. You already knew that right away? Yes.

Man, you're no fun. He's made it obvious. He's not shy. He's in whatchamacallit with Jennifer Aniston. Now, the breakup. One of the opening scenes of them going to a Notre Dame game.

Let me ask you this. Did you know that Vince Vaughn was in Rudy? Did you know that? Yes, he was the I was going to say word. I can't say he was the not nice running back that used to get mad at Rudy and basically hope he quit.

Wow. I'm shocked that you knew that because you have admitted before that you are not great with movies when kind of talking about them on CBS Sports Radio. I remember that was like a running bit when when Bill Ryder was hosting in this time slot. I've seen Rudy a thousand times. I did not know that Vince Vaughn was in Rudy. Now it's him 30 years ago.

So when he was twenty three, twenty two years old. But I didn't know playing Jamie O'Hara. That was was Vince Vaughn. That's kind of crazy.

That is good old double V. Yeah. And also, too, I mean, I was a Notre Dame fan growing up, so anything Notre Dame I was obsessed with. So watching Rudy a million times tell you a lot about that movie. But yeah, Vince Vaughn. Good. That's a good get.

That's a good you go from the rock to Vince Vaughn. That's strong. So your father, you would describe your father as a tough guy, right? I would say so. I would describe him as an average male.

Really? I think your father looks like a tough guy. Listen, he'll take the credit. I don't think he's he's tough or soft. I think he's just regular. Not to not to get personal here.

When was the last time? Do you remember seeing your father cry? Like, does your father cry a lot? Just wondering, is he emotional? Not really. OK. Did your dad ever cry during Rudy? Just wondering. No, no.

The connection is nowhere near. That is the one movie. I could turn that movie on.

The happiest day for my dad. It that movie always makes him cry like a little baby. Rudy.

Interesting. And my dad, I will say, is a little emotional. He definitely is emotional. But Rudy always gets my father like you could have him at the happiest day of his life. And like recently it would be when my sister gave birth to his first grandchild. And if I sat him down that day, which he was probably crying that day anyway, tears of joy.

But let's say he was in a great mood that day, which he was jumping up and down like a fat kid in a candy store. If I put Rudy on instant tears, I've never seen he I've seen him watch Rudy a thousand times. He has never got through Rudy without crying. And how many times I sat there on the couch where he's sobbing and blubbering all about Rudy. Oh, what a great scene. What a great movie. Rudy, Rudy, Rudy.

I've never realized that Vince Vaughn was in Rudy. Is it one scene? Is it when he gets into Notre Dame? Is it when he plays for the first time the crowd is chanting his name? Towards the end of the movie. So probably when he plays.

Yeah, it's right at the end. That's when he always cries. It's just that that one scene always gets him goosebumps watching that movie.

He cries, tears rolling right down the the face, needs tissues, freaking out, sobbing as if his heart was just broken. Kind of thanks to Vince Vaughn. Now, the reason why I say your father is a tough guy is your father actually went after a confidant of ours, a co-worker, a colleague of ours. A little source told me that Papa Hickey, what's your father's name? Joe. Joe. That's a tough guy name. Joe Hickey. Sounds like a badass. But Joe Hickey saw Sean Marash, the artist formerly known as Maraz here on The D.A. Show on CBS Sports Radio.

Whatever happened to that guy? Was going to pick up wings this weekend. And Joe Hickey saw Maraz because Hickey, Joe Hickey was also going to get the wings, I guess for for what, your mom and him? Or were you there at the house or no? Oh, no, it was a cornhole tournament at the local bar. Oh, so he was going to play cornhole? Yes. Which I call baggo, by the way.

I know that's an unpopular opinion. Big cornhole tournament on Sunday. So no surprise, Maraz is going to stuff his face and the Hickey family is doing something for an older guy, somewhat athletic.

Right. Play a little cornhole, have a little fun, drink some beers and probably enjoy himself. And Joe Hickey saw Maraz and approached him and cornered him, from what my source told me, over a take that Maraz once issued on CBS Sports Radio when Hickey was getting ready to host his first morning national show.

And he was filling it on The D.A. Show. And the Hickey family, Hickey's mom and Hickey's dad, didn't listen to the show that day. They ended up going to another radio station's remote, this big boat party that Boomer and Geo were having on WF&R New York. And Joe Hickey did not appreciate that Maraz is trying to say that they don't support their son and they don't care for their son's radio career. And I heard Joe Hickey may have got a little physical or may have put the chest out a little bit and scared Maraz a little bit. Nice job by Papa Hickey there. Good job. Did you hear about this?

Of course I heard about it. Yeah. Hickeys are tough, man. That's all I got to say. Well, your dad's tough. I don't know if you're tough. Runs in the family, runs in the blood.

I don't know. So if any listeners want to come after me, I'm ready. I'm ready to scrap. If any listeners are ready to come after Hickey, just get ready. Papa Hickey is going to be right around the corner. Boom.

So nice job there by your father getting your back and going after Maraz. And that had to be what, two years ago now? Three years ago now? That remote must have been what, two or three years ago? Yeah, somewhere in that time. Might probably have to COVID.

So probably 2021. You know what? Tell your father.

Who? If I ever meet your father, he may want to punch me in the face. Tell your father, though, I respect his level of pettiness that he had to go after Maraz over a take that he had two or three years ago when he saw him in person just roaming around Long Island as he was ready to go stuff his fat face.

I'm really impressed at your father. Did you get like more deep like when you heard about this? Did you did you say to your dad like, no, you shouldn't do that or were you full on board with him going after Maraz?

I mean, I'd rather just, yeah, just kind of have him just be in oblivion, to be honest. The most I got was that they had a picture together, him and Sean after smiling. Yeah, a picture with Maraz may or may not have a black eye from what I was told. I heard Joe Hickey gave him the one, two.

Boom. That's what I was told. Got a little physical there right before a big cornhole tournament.

May explain why they did not do two on the cornhole tournament. Now, ACT has a different, I guess, recollection of meeting your father, because when ACT met your father, your father was fanboying over Rich Ackerman. But Maraz, the moment Maraz said something negative about Ryan Hickey, Joe Hickey was right there two, three years later to square up and put Maraz in his place. Jono's quality when he sees it. It is the Zach Gelb show on CBS Sports Radio. Let's do this right now. When we get to the best wide receiver in the NFL, do you agree with Victor Cruz, Hickey, when he says it's tough when you're deciding between Tyree Kill, Justin Jefferson, and Devante Adams, but if he had to give you an answer, he gave Tyree Kill?

Yes, I agree wholeheartedly. I feel like you could ask me this question 15 times throughout the football season, and I would change my answer every time you ask the question. I want to say it's Tyree Kill because of the speed and how tough he is to stop, and I know he got in the end zone last week, and I know he struggled up against Belichick, but he only had five receptions for 40 yards. Now, the week before, he had 11 receptions for 215 yards. Now, Devante Adams has been the most consistent because of how long he's been in the league, and now he's done it with two different quarterbacks, with it being from Aaron Rodgers, and people said, oh, how great is he without Aaron Rodgers, and then his first year without Aaron Rodgers, he was an All-Pro last year with Derek Carr with the Las Vegas Raiders. I'm still going to go Justin Jefferson, though. Just to start off this season, Justin Jefferson is 309 yards on 20 receptions. Tyree Kill has 16 receptions for 255, and Devante Adams is 12 for $1.50 and a touchdown. Tyree Kill does have three touchdowns. Justin Jefferson has zero. But I look at Justin Jefferson, he's the identity of that offense in Minnesota.

Now, you could say, all right, maybe you'd think Tyree before Tua Tunga-Viloa, but you also have Jalen Wanel. You could talk about with Devante Adams what he's been able to do with two different quarterbacks, but to see the historical rate that Justin Jefferson is off to, 1,400 yards, 1,616 yards, 1,809 yards. Through his first three years and two games, he's put up 5,134 yards, 344 receptions, and 25 touchdowns. I don't think there's a wrong answer here, but just with the historical rate that he's off to in his first three years and two games, that's why I ended up going with Justin Jefferson. But the poll question results right here, who's the best wide receiver in the NFL? Justin Jefferson is leading the way at 55.6%. Tyree Kill's in second place with 32.3%.

How about this hickey? Like, the first three are obvious. Jefferson, Hill, Adams, whatever order you want. Devante Adams only has 6% of the vote, and then other is at 6%. Who would be the other wide receivers? Jamar Chase? Do you throw Staphon Diggs in there? Is there anyone else that you can even throw into the conversation when we're talking about best wide receivers in the NFL?

Garrett Wilson is rising but not there yet. Ack, you said Keenan Allen? I wouldn't say Keenan Allen's top five, but for a while I said he's a top ten wide receiver. He's just so consistent.

And you know what you get, Adam. So the reason why I can't say he's the best is I feel as if he's finally starting to escape that tag of the most underrated wide receiver in the league. So he's definitely a wide receiver that you would want.

Injuries have been a little bit of a concern, but that's a good one, Ack. I don't think most people would say Keenan Allen, but he's been a phenomenal wide receiver in the league. So hickey, who would you say your top five wide receivers?

Just wondering, right? Hill, Jefferson, Adams definitely in the top five, and then four and five would be who? I mean, Cooper Cupp's still really damn good. No, he's hurt right now, so it's kind of out of sight, out of mind. And he was hurt last year, too. But he is really good. He's on the field. Garrett Wilson's not there yet, just having one season and two games, but he is rapidly rising up the ranks. I guess right now, probably Safon Diggs in the top five. Well, I hope not.

It's on the spot. I hope I don't leave anyone out. C.D.

Lamb's rising. Top of my head, I guess I'll go Diggs and Lamb, but I don't feel confident in those two. Would DeAndre Hopkins still be there? Top five, no. A.J. Brown?

Close, but right now, no. Guy's had a 1,000-yard season each and every year at Mike Evans. He's underrated. He honestly maybe is the most underrated receiver in the NFL. He's a Hall of Famer. He does not get anywhere near the credit.

You know what? He's probably in the top. I would put him in over C.D. He's a top five wide receiver. I think you go this order.

Jefferson 1, Hill 2, Adams 3, Chase 4, and then I think the fifth spot's up for debate. Oh, man. You know, Evans is a really good one, too.

And you know what? Outside of this year, but they should pay him a new contract. He's never really been a pain in the ass, too. That's another part with wide receivers, right? Problems with the quarterback. And he hasn't always had the great quarterback until Brady the last three years. He was playing with Jamis Winston and a bunch of other different quarterbacks.

You know what? I think we've brought up a good name there for the fifth spot right now. I would say that Mike Evans could be the fifth best wide receiver in football. But it's so close and so up for debate.

But I think the best three in whatever order you want, Jefferson Hill and Devante Adams. Zach Gelb shows CBS Sports Radio. Let's take a timeout. When we do come on back, we will update you to some of the biggest stories in the world of sports with some audio. We get to a news brief.

I think it's a great game, but it is three three. I predicted 34 to 13 in this game. Hickey, I know you thought it was going to be a blowout as well. But what was your prediction in this game one more time? Niners by 40. So I'll say 43 to three. So I predicted a blowout, but Niners by 40. What factored into the Niners by 40? The home throwback uniforms.

That's how simple the prediction was. Yes. Best uniforms in sports. White pants.

Nice little retro red top. Can't lose on those and definitely cannot play a close game in them. You know that you could wear a nice uniform and still lose a game.

I am aware, but it rarely happens. And I think when you break out the alternate uniforms, science will back this up more times than not. You play above your head, then below it. Yeah, that's a stupid football take. Because I know a uniform that you really like, and the last two times this team has won, wore that uniform, and it's not fared well.

Who is that and what is that? You love the Patriots throwback red uniform Pat Patriot jerseys. You've said that before. The last two times they have worn them was last year up against the Buffalo Bills. I was at that game on Thursday Night Football. They lost last weekend Sunday Night Football up against the Miami Dolphins.

Lost as well. But what did I say? They play above their head. Close game. One score game.

Play tough. You're not Mr. Moore victory, but the Patriots don't have anywhere near the talent the Dolphins have. If they were in their normal home uniforms, Which they were the week before. They played a 14 to 17 point loss compared to a 7 point loss. Where they were the week before, they're up against a better football team in the Philadelphia Eagles. The margin was smaller with only a 5 point margin of victory for the Eagles.

Okay. Eagles are a better team than the Dolphins. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. So it's tough to then say, oh yeah, because they played the Dolphins, and you wear that jersey, and then oh, it's only a 7 point game. And that was also a 7 point game that wasn't really a 7 point game. If you were watching that, the the gap between those teams was a whole lot bigger.

And the other thing I will say, and I see a bunch of people tweet this because no one cares about history anymore. Oh, you know, how do the Patriots disrespect those jerseys? When the Patriots wore those jerseys, they sucked.

They were horrible. So make sure you know that when people go, oh, they're wearing those jerseys. They've been disrespectful to those jerseys.

When the Patriots wore those jerseys, they were one of the worst franchises in the NFL. Anyway, time to update you on some of the biggest stories in the world of sports. With some audio, let's get to a News Brief! Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Extra!

Extra! Read all about it! Time for your Daily News Brief. We get you caught up on the rumors, reports, and reconnaissance from The Day in Sports. I know before the start of the season, we were calling the Colts the biggest clown show in the NFL, and the Cardinals were throwing in there. After two weeks of the season, Hickey, the title of the team that's the biggest clown show in the NFL has to be the Chicago Bears.

You have a quarterback throwing the coaching staff under the bus. Then today they made it seem like it was, as Hickey would say, no big deal, no big deal, no big deal. And we still have no clue what actually happened with the defensive coordinator.

They're saying it's a personal issue and a health issue. And then there's still some reports out there about the FBI that maybe they didn't raid Hallis Hall, which that's been proven to be true. But Pat McAfee did say today that he heard that they raided the defensive coordinator's house, the FBI.

So it's a whole messy situation with the Chicago Bears right now. Let's listen up to Ryan Polls, who we said, why aren't the Bears doing a press conference today? Ryan Polls did speak to the media, and he says Justin Fields is very accountable.

No one in our entire building, none of our coaches, see Justin as a finger pointer at all. He's always taken ownership of anything that's happened on the field. He takes it head on, he works, he grinds, he puts his head down. He works with his teammates, works with his coaches to find solutions. You can't say always after what happened yesterday. Even if he didn't mean it the way that he said it, and if you want to believe him, I have a bridge to sell for you too. But he threw the coaching staff under the bus. That's tough to then say the next day that he always takes and holds himself accountable for his actions and he's this great hard worker there, Hickey. Oh, I agree.

I get why Ryan Polls was saying that, because he has to kind of now go definitively the other way to leave, no doubt. You have to put the toothpaste back in the tube. Right, which is impossible to do. Have you ever tried that?

No. I can't imagine it's easy and or successful. Yeah, once the toothpaste is out of the tube, even if it's just too much, you're just screwed.

Napkin, clean it up, and away you go. Ryan Polls says the Bears will overcome the challenges they are facing. We have adversity right now.

Slow start, 0-2, not where you want to be. We've dealt with life issues. We've dealt with injuries, and that's all real, and that's a part of what we do and what we've got to deal with. No one in our building is panicking.

No one is flinching at any situations. Not our owner, not our president, not our head coach, not myself, none of our players. Everyone's focusing on solving the issues that we have so that we can be a better football team.

It's tough to say that, once again, the day after which a quarterback said that no one's panicking because it did seem like the quarterback was panicking yesterday and frustrated when he was responding to the questions from the media and then once again was visibly upset when talking about the coaching staff. Here is Ryan Polls trying to give us the latest update on Allen Williams, the D.C. who resigned. I don't have many details to add there. We try to work in truth, and I know there's a ton of misinformation out there yesterday. We talked about a house hall being raided. That was completely false.

I don't even know where that came from. We worked with Kevin and George, all of our leadership, to make sure we were handling it the right way, communicating properly, and then obviously everything concluded yesterday. But we have a ton of confidence in our plan moving forward. I know that you have to comment on just what pertains to the Bears here. So now your defensive coordinator is no longer a part of the team, so I guess you don't need to defend him. But isn't it weird, Hickey, how they keep on saying Hallis Hall wasn't raided, which is true, and I believe that. But then McAfee says that Allen Williams' house was raided by the FBI, and no one has ever... Even when the attorney was saying that the raid didn't happen yesterday, he said that it wasn't at Hallis Hall. Now, I think the attorney said that he's not under investigation for anything, so if you're not under investigation for anything, you would assume the FBI is not going to raid your house. But I think that there are some things that were said yesterday that were clearly false and then some things that were true, and it's like we have to blend them together to figure out what actually happened. I don't think the FBI thing was just out of thin air.

There has to be something true to that report, right? Yes, because he also mentioned the fact that he talked with the team owner, the president, the GM. If this was just as simple as what the statement said of, this is Allen Williams taking care of his health, there's nothing to talk about. Like, he's resigning.

Like, you maybe call the owner and say, okay. Making sure our plan's going forward. You don't really need a plan because he's resigning. You are talking to him because there's clearly... You're trying to get on the same page of, we're going to stick to this company line, and maybe, like you said, we're going to ignore the house investigation because we're just going to say, at House Hall, no one here, and you're not lying, and you're also not lying that nothing happened either.

Yeah, like you call the owner and you say, okay, the D.C. is resigning, and you kind of keep them up to date on that, but I don't think it's a long conversation where you need other information about that if something else didn't happen. Ryan Polls diagnoses what he thinks Justin Fields has struggled so far. Well, really, everyone's trying to figure out what's going on. In my opinion, you've got a young quarterback trying to figure it out. A guy who hasn't had the cleanest start of his career, who last year with the roster had to put the team on the back, do some unbelievable things athletically. Now he gets talent around him and has to figure out and balance when to do those cool things athletically, when to lean on others, and that is sometimes a great place to live in, and that takes time.

That takes time on task for him to take that next step, and everyone's on board helping him get into that place for him to be successful. I still don't think this roster is very good. Yes, you've got D.J. Moore, but the offensive line still stinks, so there's not a lot else around Justin Fields, but Justin Fields is missing the obvious throws, and mentally, maybe the situation and the coaching is really getting to him, where there's open wide receivers and he's just running into the line of scrimmage and taking sacks. So we all remember Lavonte Davis said they knew the interception was going to happen, that a big play was going to come for their defense, because they ran the same play three times in a row. Devin White, this was caught on Buccaneers YouTube, tells D.J. Moore that the Bears aren't using him correctly. I miss tackling your go-go gadget. They ain't using you right.

What's up, baby? So I'm not saying Justin Fields is completely wrong in terms of going after the coaching. He has to improve himself and take some accountability, but if now you have other players saying they're not using you right and they also knew what plays were coming, yeah, there is a problem with the coaching. Let's go to Travis Kelce responding to the Taylor Swift dating rumors with the Pat McAfee show. It's hilarious how much traction this has actually got. It's like I threw it out there, I threw the ball in her court, and you know, I told her, you know, maybe I've seen you rock the stage in Arrowhead, you might have to come see me rock the stage in Arrowhead and see which one's a little more lit. So we'll see what happens in the near future. Oh, Travis! Hey! All right, man.

All right, man. She doesn't need any more attention, Taylor Swift, but if I was her, I'd definitely go to a Chiefs game. We'll continue to just play into this stuff. And finally, Justin Herbert says no one is panicking after their 0-2 start. We believe in everyone in this organization, and, you know, things haven't gone our way the past couple of games, but panicking is never going to fix anything, and so, you know, it's up to us to be able to fix that as an offense, score more points, and, you know, we believe in the defense, and sometimes we're going to score a bunch of points, and sometimes we're not, but it's up to us as a team to play together.

Well, you better win this weekend up against the Minnesota Vikings. By the way, he said organization, as if he was a hockey player, maybe in Canada. I know he's from Eugene, Oregon.

Right there close to the border. Is that how they say organization in Oregon, organization? I respect people that say organization that way, but usually it's Canadians.

When you're that close to the border, maybe it trickles down, you know, just a little over the top. Organization. I'm kind of back in now on the Chargers and their organization. Alrighty, Chargers going to beat the Vikings this week. Hopefully that organization is screwed.
