Alrighty, this is Zach Gelb's show on CBS Sports Radio. Joe Burrow signs a record-breaking extension, five years, 275 million dollars.

A little over 219 of that is guaranteed. You had a man glue his feet to the floor of the Arthur Ashe Stadium at the U.S. Open and that delayed the U.S. Open, featuring a match with Coco Gauff for over 40 minutes. That just resumed and they got that idiot out of the building and oh yeah by the way football is back. Football is back. Football is back.

Football is back and we're off and running. Dan Campbell did a fake punt from inside his own 20. The Lions ended up scoring a touchdown after a long drive after that and then Patrick Mahomes without Travis Kelce and Chris Jones not playing on the defensive side of the ball. They just orchestrated and capped off a 13 play, 75-yard drive in five minutes and 56 seconds. Rashee Rice does get the touchdown.

So now we are all tied up at seven apiece with 11.50 to go in the first half. Jared Gauff five of eight for 53 yards and a touchdown. Patrick Mahomes seven to ten for 55 yards and a touchdown as well. Mahomes leading the Chiefs in rushing, three carries for 24 yards. David Montgomery five carries for 24 yards. Jamir Gibbs the rookie out of Alabama and also Georgia Tech, three carries for 18 yards as well. Ma Ra, Saint Brown scored the lone touchdown for the Detroit Lions. Figured I would make that a little bit mention of note as well.

Alrighty, so those are three things that two, one of them I knew we were going to talk about tonight. Lions and Chiefs. I was not expecting to talk about a protester gluing his feet to the floor at the U.S. Open and we knew the Bengals were going to get an extension done with Joe Burrow, was not anticipating though that would be released right as the ball was kicked off into the air to open up this NFL season. So I was reading an article as we open up a new NFL season by Jeff Curves-Sibias and it was the coaches that are on the hot seat and he has eight coaches on the hot seat. Now inning number eight hickey was Robert Salah.

Don't you think that's a little bit low? Like I don't know if I could name seven other coaches, I think you'd name seven other coaches that are hot seat but they should not be ranked, there shouldn't be seven coaches that are ranked in front of Robert Salah. This is an enormous year for Robert Salah because there's sky-high expectations for the Jets to see how far they're going to fly in 2023 and when you look at the Jets the two areas of concern is the offensive line and then the head football coach and bare minimum you know Robert Salah has to make the playoffs because if he doesn't make the playoffs then there will be a new coach with Aaron Rodgers next year with the New York Jets and watch who it would be. If they get rid of Robert Salah who's the first name that Aaron Rodgers is advocating for? Nathaniel Hackett. 100%.

He learned from his first job, he is mature now, he'll be okay. Guys trust me I got this. Oh my goodness gracious.

Can't wait for it. That would honestly it would be stupid but it would not surprise me because Aaron Rodgers is king with the Jets right now but him being only eight I that's that's pretty low. I would agree we'll go through the names I would imagine there has to be at least I mean you would think I was top of that without hearing without hearing the rest of the list at least probably four names Salah should be above. Do you think you could guess the other seven names on this list? I could guess I should be yes. Go ahead. Maybe not in order but out of the seven.

Hold on let me uh just minimize the text here because it's a lot of writing here just so I could try to find the names as quick as possible go ahead. Okay in no order Ron Rivera well Ron Rivera I think is on there. Ron Rivera is number one.

Number one interesting okay. New owner you could make the case they should make the playoffs. We played the audio clip one an hour ago he's got a win. Josh Harris stumbling through basically saying we're going to judge him by the results on the field so Ron Rivera is one okay. I have one but he's on there Brandon Staley has to be on there has to be on there. Brandon Staley is on there and he's only number three. They have to be top two.

Three interesting. He should be top two. I mean I'm going to go I'm trying to go through my head right now who would be above him. Okay.

I don't know but okay let's keep going through this. My guy he has to be on the list. Josh McDaniel has to be one of the eight.

He is I don't think he's going to get fired because of you know they just paid John Gruden so much money to not coach the team but he is. He is number six. So you got four more to go. Hot seat meters here.

Let's go. There's two obvious ones that you're missing. Three obvious ones. I am a fan of this team.

Yeah. But if they stink it has to be Ty Bowles on the list. He's number four. You got three more here. Okay number four. You have not got number two.

And you have not got number five and number seven. It's another team that you're a big fan of too. Oh oh has to be Kevin Stefanski.

Yep. It's gonna say can't be Sean McVay. But he's only seven. Can't be Sean Payton.

Like if they don't make the playoffs he's out of a job. He's only seven on this Jeff Curless. So you got two more to go here. Two more to go. One is obvious. You do not like this guy and you do not believe in this guy. The other one he's always in the conversation but I don't think he's someone that we actually believe is gonna get by.

Dennis Allen forgotten man but he has to be on the list. That's the one that you do not like. He is at number two. Okay. You're missing one. An obvious one.

I'm missing what number? It's five. I don't I don't think it's. But it's obvious. You think it's.

Yes. Put it this way. I don't think he's going to.

I don't think he's going to get fired. I would not put him at number five but he's definitely a name when you're doing one of these national lists and if you're gonna give me eight people he has to be one of the eight people. Wow. Big name. Big team. Big name. Oh. Big name. Oh. You know what. Hold on. Here's your hint.

Let me say it one more time. Big name. You're right. It's Mike McCarthy.

Mm hmm. Honestly in my own head I've taken him off the hot seat just because we've talked about it every year with Jason Garrett for like 10 years where he was fired. So clap your hands. We need another seven years of Mike McCarthy before I can officially put him on the hot seat with Jerry Jones and how he's gone.

But yes that's right. Every national list is going to include Mike McCarthy basically by default. So let's do this. At the end of the year is this coach back with the team that he's on right now? We'll go in order here. Ron Rivera is one on the Jeff Kerr hot seat list on CBS.

I will say fired. I don't think the commander's making the playoffs. I picked the commanders to make the playoffs.

You did. So I'm going to say he's back but just because they make the playoffs doesn't automatically guarantee that he returns. You would think that would be enough but you don't know what the standards of Josh Harris are.

That's true. Maybe you want to make your first splash and hey if you're going to make a move for a quarterback which again they don't like if Sam Haller doesn't wow them right away get your hands on a new quarterback maybe also get your hands on new coach. And not only that think about how many quarterbacks are going to be available here.

You're going to have like I'm not saying they're going to be the number one overall pick but just the quarterbacks that we're thinking of. Caleb Williams, Drake May. Now we throw Chador Sanders into that conversation. Michael Pennix Jr. Jordan Travis too.

Like you got it right there. There's five names. I'm sure there's others too that we're just not throwing into the conversation yet where there's going to be a bunch of options here. This will be I know we say this every year and two years ago right only one quarterback goes in the first round. Last year you did have one, two, and four go. I think this could be one of those years like a few years ago in the what was that the who was the the draft it was was that Trevor Lawrence and Zach yeah it was Trevor Lawrence.

2020 yeah 2021 I guess. Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance, Justin Fields, Mack Jones. It feels like right now only after one week of college football you could have five quarterbacks go in the first round this year.

Lot of players played really well last week. Dennis Allen. I don't think the Saints are making the playoffs so therefore I think Dennis Allen's out at the end of the season. Fired I'm with you.

Brandon Staley. He should be gone. I do believe the Chargers make the playoffs and then Dean Spano says okay that's enough we're not going to get rid of him. But that would be a really attractive job like you know Sean Paytum wanted that if if Jim Harbaugh wants that job you're telling him no like you're going to do that again for another off season that wouldn't really make sense to me. I don't think the Chargers are making the playoffs. I'm gonna say hired.

I'm gonna say fired. I don't feel like it's a slam dunk though. I do not. Here is a slam dunk. Hickey picked the Bucks to win the division. We know they won't win the division.

Todd Bowles, T for Temple U. I love you but you're getting fired at the end of this year. If again I'm picking them to win the division not backing down. I'm just saying if the alternate reality in this fantasy world we're gonna live in for a second exists where they miss the playoffs.

Which is the reality. Total reset. New quarterback. New coach.

Tear it down. You know they're not making the playoffs. No I talked to Tiki Barber today. He's calling the game. You know what he said to me? I said Tiki I need your help here.

I need your guidance. I picked the Bucks to make the playoffs. You've been scouting them all week. Is that crazy? He said no I'm with you. Direct words for Tiki Barber.

Yeah but hold on hold on. I love Tiki. His brother is Rondae Barber. Legendary. Legend. Hall of Fame.

Tampa Bay Buccaneer. Of course he's going to talk optimistically about it. But what is like that Tiki's his brother's not going to disown him if he says I don't think the Buccaneer is going to win the division this year. Rondae's still associated with the team. Rondae's probably when the Barber brothers are golfing in New Jersey at that bougie golf place that I saw them a few weeks ago. I'm sure Rondae was uh spreading that Bucks propaganda. No doubt about it. It was just me and Tiki. Two guys talking ball. He didn't need to lie to me.

He didn't need to feel like I got to protect my brother. So let me just say the Bucks are going to win even though I don't believe it. I want Tiki to join us next week.

I got to get to the bottom of this conversation. Some point next week I got to see what the truth is of the conversation. McCarthy I think he's back. He's hired. Josh McDaniels probably should be fired. I think the Raiders be just a little bit better than what people think but still not a good football team. I do believe that Mark Davis is bringing him back. I know your answer already.

You want to be the person that delivers in the news. Oh I'd love to but also the same time I kind of like watching him squirm. I don't think he's going to fire though.

Oh okay. If he survived last year and losing to Jeff Saturding he is basically bulletproof for at least another year. Stefanski I think the Browns missed the playoffs. Deshaun Watson somehow wins this power play because of what the contract is. The Browns have a really good team. You can make a case they make the playoffs.

They were not one of my top seven teams in the AFC. I think Stefanski who has won a coach a year is going to be fired at the end of this season. I know that you're picking him to stay because you love the Browns heading into this. That's right playoff team Stefanski is back. And Robert Sol will be back because the Jets are going to make the playoffs and shut you up. They are not making the playoffs. He will be fired.

Yeah I think you're starting to doubt this Jets pick of yours to miss the playoffs. Oh no I feel very strong about it. You know why I call cap as the kids would say right now?

Why is that? You're wearing green today. This is a good shirt. You're wearing green.

I love this shirt actually it's very comfortable. Can I just hear a little Jet chant from you just real quickly? I'm not a Jet fan but I've said it before like J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets can we just get your best Jet chant real quickly? No. Why not?

Cannot do that. Why? I'm not a Jets fan.

So? I don't believe in them. I have no reason to do it. J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets.

It's just for fun. That's blasphemous. What you can't say it? I can't say it. Why not? I can't do it. I'm not a Jets fan. You physically can't do it. No I physically cannot. I can't I honestly you're a Patriots fan. You just I can't believe you said those those letters.

Who cares? It's not as if I'm my intention isn't as if I'm doing it rooting for the Jets. I just want to hear you give a nice little Jet chant. I will I will not be able to do it. I cannot do it. You really are the definition of lame. What do you mean? I'm not doing I can't do it J-E-T-S.

I can't do it. The Chief's defense just forced a turnover by the way. And the Lions were driving? Helmet on the football. I did not see who fumbled it but helmet on the football. Ball out deep in Chief's territory. Alrighty so five minutes to go here in the first half.

It is Chief 7 Lion 7. We'll come on back with Hickey the Big Jet fan next. You're listening to the Zach Gelb Show. Stream the NFL on Westwood One for free. Sponsored by AutoZone all season long. Three minutes to go here in the first half. Lions are gonna have a third and five upcoming. We'll see if Jared Goff can move the chains for the first down. Lions were driving up seven nothing or a tight game seven seven and they did fumble the ball and then they ended up getting the ball back but they are right now at midfield just about midfield and it is a third and five currently. So I'm really intrigued by the Baltimore Ravens. I saw that Odell Beckham Jr. was put on the injury report today with an ankle injury.

He was limited today. I don't care if Odell Beckham Jr. plays in week one. I want to see him play but the Ravens are going up against Houston Texans and I know the Texans right. It's a new era with Will Anderson Jr. and CJ Stroud as well. The Ravens are going to be a lot of people's survivor pool pick for this week and if the Texans end up upsetting them then you have a lot of people are going to be annoyed at the Houston Texans but that that's what makes the NFL really fun. But the Ravens this year they have a lot of guys that they're banking on that have dealt with some injuries. Lamar Jackson, JK Dobbins, Rashad Bateman, Odell Beckham Jr. and even like Marlon Humphrey is already dealing with an injury right now and I'm just fascinated by the way that we're going to be talking about the Ravens at the end of this year.

And you go through their schedule if you want to do a little win-loss. I think they'll beat the Texans out of the gate then they'll lose to the Bengals. They'll beat the Colts. They'll probably split with Cleveland. This one's in Cleveland so there they'll lose. They'll probably split with Pittsburgh. This one's in Pittsburgh so I'll say they lose. Then they beat Tennessee. I think they'll beat Detroit. They beat Arizona. Lose to Seattle. All right beat Cleveland. I said in a split. Could they split up against the Bengals?

Yeah sure why not? That's seven. Probably not going to win back-to-back weeks if you go Bengals in charge and lose the Chargers. You beat the Rams.

You should. You play Jacksonville. That's a toss-up. I'll say right now that's a loss. You play San Francisco.

I'll probably say that's a loss. And then Miami and Pittsburgh to wrap up the season. Like you could go anywhere from 9 to 11 wins with this team. I think the Ravens are going to be a good team but that doesn't mean that they're necessarily going to make the playoffs. And remember the last two years you've had Lamar Jackson not available at the end of the season. And that's been a problem where you missed the playoffs then you made the playoffs then if Tyler Huntley didn't start to become like Superman at the two-yard line and try to think he was Superman and thought he could fly. You know maybe they do end up beating the Bengals in that game because that game was right there for the taking. And then you had the big return. I think it was by Hubbard who went like 98 or 100 yards or whatever it was in that contest.

I remember I was in Colorado visiting my sister, my brother-in-law and my niece. I remember watching that game right before we were about to devour some dinner. So that was one of those crazy games you didn't think was going to be that close that ended up being that close. But Hickey I look at the Ravens this year they're really one of the more fascinating teams in the NFL. Because they have the talent, they have the names, they have the star power and they have speed. And it seems like this team really gets along but you go like Ronnie Stanley I feel like is injured every year unfortunately. Lamar is injured every year.

JK Dobbins, Rashad Bateman, Odell. It's a lot of guys that you're putting together on one team that yes if they're healthy this could be a really good team. And you know Harbaugh is a heck of a co-treater if they're not healthy they'll be able to find the way for this not to be a catastrophe and the boat won't completely sink and they'll keep it afloat. But if you want to go to a level where you're winning multiple playoff games it's tough for me to buy into the Ravens as being a Super Bowl team just once again because you're relying on a lot of guys who unfortunately their careers have been synonymous with injuries. And that's why for me they're not a playoff team. It's bad enough your quarterback right now has been injury prone the last two years and obviously that's been a that's a massive position.

Can I just get a point of clarification here? When you say not a playoff team I know you're not picking them to make the playoffs but they could contend for a playoff spot like you don't think they're going to be awful. No eight nine ten win range yeah what eight or nine win range yeah right around that nine and eight eight nine. But it's one of those things where I just can't trust to be healthy where it's not just Lamar it's again your best player on the offense line it's three quarters of your receiver room it's your running backs like they have a lot of guys where oh if he stays healthy this could be a great season but you start to say there are six or seven guys that are keys to your season we see how dangerous and violent this game is if you're relying on six or seven injury prone guys to stay healthy for a full year odds are it's not going to happen and that's why I think it just the Ravens kind of built like a house of cards. Also you look at the entirety of the AFC we talk about how great the AFC is. If I tell you there's no way this team makes the playoffs this year when you go through all the AFC teams like no way no chance can't even see a one percent chance how many teams you think there there are probably out of 16 I would say five at least five is a pretty low number I would say the AFC I'm not picking the Patriots to make the playoffs but if you tell me they did it's not like you're in awe because of Bill Belichick AFC West the only team I have that can't find any way to make the playoffs like I don't think the Broncos will but it would be the Raiders so there's one in the AFC North all four of those teams can make the playoffs and then it's the AFC South Texans can't the Colts can't I only have three teams that I just I could see zero percent chance Texans Colts and then also the Raiders of making a case for those teams to make the playoffs this AFC is going to be so fun and at the end of the year there's going to be a lot of good teams that are on the outside looking in it is the Zach Gelb show right here on CBS sports radio Chiefs and Lions all tied up at seven under two minutes to go here in the first half we're going to take a break here and we come on back we're to be talking some college football with former Alabama safety played with the Saints and the Panthers won a Super Bowl with the Saints Roman Harper you're listening to the Zach Gelb show that's right it is the Zach Gelb show coast to coast on CBS sports radio let's head down to the Alabama campus right now big game this weekend between Texas and the Crimson Tide we'll welcome in a former Alabama safety also played in the NFL for the Panthers and Saints and now as a superstar at the SEC network that's our pal in Roman Harper Roman I know you got to be fired up for this game between your alma mater and Texas well and honestly man this is a big proven game for for both of these teams so I say it's a great proven opportunity for Alabama to to actually let everybody in the country know you know what we're still Alabama a lot of people this is probably the most I've seen since I've been doing this job sure that a lot of people think Alabama not to be the number one team in the SEC West let alone the SEC and maybe possibly a national champion show knowing and understand that the standard that is called football's move and it's all constant moving target that it was not on Alabama it's on Georgia so that's a proven opportunity for Alabama and then for Texas how real are they everybody in the papers that wrote about how talented they are how good they are but at some point in time you still got to go out there and put it on tape and go out there and show people how good you are and so you've got ranked last year after a loss versus Alabama still a loss and they did not live up to the ranking and to do you to move up and this year they've been praised everybody's picked them to win the big 12 and so it is a proven game not only to be who they're supposed to be in the big 12 but also around the nation so I'm looking forward to it it's a big proven opportunity overall like you said people are finally starting to doubt Alabama and Nick Saban for so many years had to go after people for praising his program too much how do you think he's like in the locker room with this entire off season of people saying Alabama's falling off they're not that great anymore well he calls it reverse rat poison you know that's that's this thing the reverse rat poison he wants all of it all the time he loves the reverse rat poison we'll see though at the end of the day it's so tough to be in Alabama right now because you know when I was here you know we lost two three six you know we lost six games seven games one year two years you know it was only one year where we wore it in 10 games when I was in school but now if you lose two games you lose two games it is a disappointing year at the University of Alabama and like Nick says all the time you know the fans and everybody gets all in their in emotions but nobody cares more than the players inside that locker room so they live they understand what the standard is at Alabama and what they have to constantly battle against which is their own standard that has been set before them but the best thing about it is each individual locker room at some point gets to prove why they are that individual locker room everything changes even more now in the transfer reporter era so it's just I think until you go out there and prove it and do it that's probably the the emotion that you really look for and seek for as a head coach the way you get to see your team react in these moments and in these big games you can be proud of them you can be not as proud of them but you never truly truly disappointed them because what you do is prepare the best you can do the best you can and you're dealing with 19 to 21 year old kids dudes you know so 22 it happens that's what this that's why they go out there and play it Zach I think it's going to be so good to have everybody's eyes on this game you know outside of Colorado and Nebraska this is going to be the game that everybody's talking about and watching on Saturday night Roman Harper here with us where's your confidence with Jalen Milro as a quarterback for Alabama it's rising I would say it's rising that's the word I'll use to describe it in my best Wilbon it's been impressive rising and that's because starting off we didn't know we knew he's athletic we knew he was a athletic guy that could try and play quarterback but now he's trying to be the quarterback that is athletic and last week he showed some really good throws on some good touch some technique things can be cleaned up but it's going to come down to you know I think allowing him to kind of get started in the run game early sometimes allows guys to get more in a rhythm throwing the football KJ Jefferson quarterback Arkansas really good example of that when he's using his legs he's more active he's just in the game you still got to learn how to protect yourself these guys are out there Cam Newton another great example in college that was who he was as well so and I'm not I'm not putting Jalen Milro on Cam Newton's level I'm just saying the type of game that these guys have is where we're going with that and he's got some talented wide receivers that are now no longer true freshmen and so they got some speed on the outside they got some difference makers and really it's going to come down to this Zach is Texas going to come out and shoot their gun and their shot being aggressive really blitzing and say hey we blitzed a lot against Bryce Young last year who controls the protection who does all these things you know how cerebrally talented that kid is are you going to try and push Jalen Milro to that breaking point as well are you going to see if he can get the corrections up front how aggressive do you start are you going to be able to try and play some zero coverage which is what they did versus Rice at times last week that gave them some success so are they going to try and do that versus Alabama which is if you play zero coverage and you don't sack the quarterback watch out he can hurt you he see he has shown he can take it 80 yards and also they have the ability on the outside to run by guys as well like Isaiah Bond and some of these other uh Prentiss uh Kobe Prentiss another wide receiver who has shown the ability hey these guys are downfield threats 45 50 60 yards down the field what would your approach be Roman Harper defensively up against Quinn Ewers who was having success last year up against Alabama before the injury in that game it's not so much about just Quinn Ewers I think Quinn Ewers is a good quarterback but it's all about covering Sarkeesian's defense and understanding what they're trying to do at all times in which situations it's all about situational football Zach I'm sorry if I'm gonna go on a heavy football jargon but you're asking these questions I'm like bro I can I can give you the fluff or that's why we bring you on Roman give us the SEC network analysis here let's go all right all right so so what it is it's like all right what is the situation it's first down or earned first down not just start of possession which is you know uh possession which is you know possession means that we kicked it off whatever we just punted different situation earn first down you get past the the for the past the 50 or really it's the 45 to the other 40 versus Texas shot zone first down just play coverage understand they they want to go fast that's when they want to try and quick strike you that is a attitude of this offense and under Sarkeesian that's in his DNA so understanding those things and then also where they move around Xavier Worthy when he's out there on a loan in the field understanding how you want to press this guy when he motions in there's no reason to press him from inside out he just wants to run right back outside and get open and use the field so also and then when they move them down to slot so understanding where Xavier Worthy is because when they want to take these shots and be aggressive that's what Texas is and if your guy is blocking go hit the quarterback there's no reason to stand back and cover the air because they do a lot more max protect they use a tight end they put in an offensive lineman we call them a pig or a slug and so because they're not going out they're not releasing so instead of covering this guy just go hit the quarterback because he's in there to block so the more pressure you can add and hug rush as quick as we can understanding the situations the other farmer tight end he's going to go across the line of scrimmage to help with waggle protection that guy go get your man go get the quarterback when they block go get the quarterback it speeds up the timing it makes Quinn Ewers uncomfortable he's not showing that he's a quarterback under pressure that handles it well and if it's feet are moving and you knock him off the spot he's not that good at quarterback so that is when you got to understand those things and how to be aggressive and how to play against this defense at least that's what I would tell him to do that Roman Harper here with us we're getting a PhD in football right here on CBS Sports Radio LSU I think the world of them heading into the season same with Florida State I thought that was going to be a great close game it was looking that way in the first half and then Florida State just took it to them in the second half how shocked were you by LSU not getting up for the moment in that second half last week um you know LSU had the opportunities to really take over the game and and do what they need to do to win it and I always say this it's usually five plays in every game that kind of win a game lose a game everything else is kind of walk hogwash right and so you go in you know LSU really shouldn't have scored that last field goal Florida State that was a dumb defense call anyways they got down there they're up 17 14 they could have been up more understandably so but I'll say this that that whole first half was hogwash when it's all said and done because it was even and you look up and and three things can't happen if you want to win a big game number one you can't get out coached LSU was out coached number two and I and I just don't flat throw that out there it was like you know certain defenses that they're trying to execute Florida State out execute them and run the same type of defense defenses you understand both of these quarterbacks are very similar so you got to have a spy you got to be able to do the little things on defense to be successful versus these type of quarterbacks in teams right and they're very similar in those ways so LSU lost that battle they were out coached I also saw them out hustle you know there's a couple of tip balls in that game Florida State's defenders are running by LSU's offensive players trying to go catch an interception like dude are we playing their game are we what are we doing here also Malik neighbors and Jayden Daniels they got to get better in the red zone on their connection you can't like you got one-on-one on the back side at some point you got to score those the odds you have to give your favor if that's your star player right those right those connections have to be better so that's another thing and lastly Florida State out hit Louise LSU they out hit them when the collision points were made LSU players were going back Florida State's players were stunning those guys even on the sideline runs LSU was going to get that guy out of bounds if you weren't going to run out of bounds we're going to hit you on the way out of bounds seeing those little things you know Jayden Daniels getting body slammed planted on the floor LSU on the fourth down great fourth down red zone defense stuff in the run first second down like LSU tried to run there they couldn't it wasn't like they didn't try they couldn't so seeing those things and those little elements happen and then the second half Zach let me tell you what happened as a former player they got in at halftime and they said you know what we don't need all this stuff we came in here and thought we were going to do we're going to play straight man-to-man defense you call the cat out and that's what they did and in LSU they lined up right in front of LSU and saying come beaten and they couldn't and they lined up I looked at the place at the top of the drop Jane Daniels there's no space nobody's open so that is what they did and then they got after the quarterback with a great spy technique and so and and once LSU had that happen they got hit in the mouth and they couldn't respond and that is how the game kind of got away from LSU Roman Harper wrapping up with the SEC network analyst former safety for Alabama the Saints and also the Carolina Panthers does Jimbo get it done this week up against Miami in your opinion? Oh so Zach man that was the the game I've been studying lately man and it's just so weird because you know in college you just don't get to carry over the success of last year and or sometimes the warts of last year and maybe Texas A&M is better it's I think it's going to look this is what it's going to come down to me I don't know who's going to win the game yet I'm not ready to put a pick on it yet but my where I'm looking at this game where it be won and lost at is going to be Texas A&M's wide receivers who's the best part of their offense and versus Miami secondary specifically the slot position I'm looking at the slot they run a lot of man do some dance different man different things and they trust that one-on-one but if you got Evan Stewart in in the slot eating and and Texas A&M has three wide receivers they got the Noah Kidd that came out of nowhere last week my man shout out to my man Tequil Spikes he said he was gonna be a breakout player so I didn't say nowhere but Tequil Spikes knew I didn't know then you got Little Moose Muhammad well I don't say little but the second I call it Little Moose I know Big Moose so sorry and Evan Stewart the number one wide receiver out of last year's freshman class who really came on and did his thing so those three guys at Texas A&M are going to be a tough matchup for Miami and that's what I'm looking at on that side of the ball and who wins that matchup will win the game and then on Miami's side it's going to be Miami's offenses I don't know if Miami can just run the ball on Texas A&M like that like in last week they haven't just run the ball they weren't like the pass game wasn't as threatening I don't know if their pass game is was threatening enough to to put Texas A&M in fear to maybe they have to put more guys back away from the line of scrimmage be less than at some point in time you got to strike fear in somebody and Miami's offense didn't strike fear me in the past few more for Roman Harper before we let you run what was your reaction to what coach prime and his squad did which was awesome up against TCU proud you know proud really happy it's something to be said when you you know your underdog and you go out there and and shock the world Muhammad Ali said it first you know and so when those things happen you root for him you always root for the underdog and look man I'm a Deion Sanders fan I'm a coach prime fan like like he's been on my wall since I was a little kid you know with the Atlanta Braves poster you know what I mean I'm growing up in Alabama I was I didn't like the Falcons as much but I love the Atlanta Braves and so he was on my wall since then and then I've got him he's still in my man cave room right now on my wall from a autographed picture that I have so like this is like he's always been that guy for me so I've always been a huge fan of him he's the he's the goat and so when you take those type of qualities and attributes and he's been successful at every level of his life so if anybody should dare doubt him they're dumb but for him and not only that but like his son should do had a great game like all the stars showed up in the biggest moment and like those things don't happen that often when they do big monumental shifts and things happen and that's what I saw for Colorado it was great I was proud it was you know I don't say this on your show Zach but like man it was almost like the Montgomery boat incident like it give you a little sense of proudness sometimes when somebody gets the the correct reckoning at the end of a bad behavior so um and I meant a bad behavior in the fact of just all the doubters people are like man they ain't gonna win two three games I looked at the schedule I'm like bro they can win four easily you know and that's just like four but like man any more than that man give this man credit give this team this program credit man and what you know Dion has been able to build I mean he's in talk of college football right now last thing I'll ask you Roman Harper Ole Miss Tulane I can't wait for this one Ole Miss his offense is going to be humming and then Tulane uh we saw what they did up against USC with that crazy comeback last year and they're one of those uh well I guess you'll say group of five teams that could really make some noise this year uh you know remember what I said earlier about you don't get to take the successes of last year into this year remember I said that yes that is a true statement now Tulane has talent they bring back the same quarterback they bring back a lot of some of the some offensive linemen some d linemen like they got some players but you also got to understand their bell cow down the stretch was the Taiji uh with the running back he rushed for two over 200 yards versus USC he rushed like 190 something 180 150 or more in uh the AAC championship game so he was the guy down the stretch right like he got drafted in the NFL for that so like you losing these players sometimes you don't always get better and so that is real and true I've watched them versus South Alabama I think the biggest thing is this I'll give you the the secret sauce to this matchup zap number one is it's in New Orleans so and Ole Miss connections to New Orleans that's the whole deal in a whole vibe the Mannings that whole little mysterious little thing those connections some of the same type of people in both places that's one thing and then also is that Tulane wins in certain ways they create turnovers all right they're not a lot but when they do they score off and so then when all of a sudden you're down and you know that makes the other team's offense press a little bit more sometimes that creates more opportunities for more turnovers and so if Ole Miss can protect the ball they should win this game Ole Miss is better but if you turn the football over you're a little sloppy here you know you don't you have penalties which Ole Miss has never really been that highly penalized team under Lane Kiffin I give him credit for that but if those things start to creep up then you give somebody that's probably not as talented to you a chance to beat you oh I just saw that last Sunday when Clemson lost to Duke and man man I know we talked about Brian Kelly and I thought it was laughblood he's on the hot seat how about Dabo Sweeney is there anyone more stubborn in college football than him with the way that he doesn't embrace the transfer portal and all the arrogant things that he says hey man you know they say that about that man hard head got a soft you know what you know at some point it happens because you know what I mean like all that stuff look I'm a big Dabo fan personally you know I'm look I've been a Dabo fan since he coached Alabama wide receivers and then he really won me over when he was the the BYOG coach you know bring your own gut like that's when he really won me over and I don't know if that Dabo is still this same Dabo it's really hard when you've been at the top for so long and you you don't want to eat I guess call it evolve or whatever it is you know whatever the correct term is I would say evolve you know you got to be in this game Zach in the last five years bro in college football this space since I've been in it last four years dude you got to be the crocodile you can't be the dinosaur you're getting passed up things are changing it's changing rapidly you're not willing to adjust evolve try and grow with it and if you just want to be against it and I'm not saying Dabo's against any type of brain then like it's going to be tough and it's just funny because like people have college players a lot of them have gotten money underneath the table from different programs forever Zach and now it's no longer like that and things are more above board things are at least and I don't even think it's even better I don't but at times it but it has better it has more opportunity and that's the thing that I don't want to take from these young men because I didn't have that opportunity it's not even about the money it is about the money it's always about the money but at the same time we root for it as former players because it's about the opportunity you know and so don't ever lose that because opportunity creates hope hope creates love you know it creates all these other great things so and so that's all I want but at the same time I mean everybody has to adjust at some point and it'd be different if like so Clemson's never paid anybody on the table like not but you just want to be out loud and in front of the camera saying it it's just like it's like why at this point it's simple it's ego control and stubbornness that's really all I could chalk it up to anyway Roman Harper we got to bounce always
