Top 5 College Football & NFL Teams (Hour 3)

Now at number three of our radio program, that's right it is the Zach Gelb show coast to coast on CBS Sports Radio.

Really happy to be talking to my next guest. His team had a dominant performance to kick off the college football season. Big top 10 matchup between LSU and Florida State and the Seminoles ended up delivering a big beat down here of the LSU Tigers by a final score of 45 to 24. Now joining us is the fourth year head coach of the Florida State Seminoles and that is Mike Norvell. Coach, always do appreciate when you join us.

Thanks so much for doing it and how you've been. I appreciate you having me on Zach and it's been good. You know we had a short week this week coming off Sunday night game so just been at practice today prepping for Southern Minnesota Saturday but obviously was very very pleased with our guys. Just the way they performed Sunday night, the way they responded especially there in the second half. You didn't didn't play as clean as we wanted to in the first half but I thought they you know really did a wonderful job coming out of halftime and you know winning in a dominant fashion. I know people will look at the final score and they'll say the game it was a blowout but it really was like you just said a tale of two halves and your defense early they were giving up some yards but when they needed to they really did buckle down and I thought that was massive early on for your defense. No I mean it was huge and I think when you look back to the game and just the situational football um you know the red zone you're off our offense was four for four in the red zone but we were able to hold them you know two times when they got to when they got down and got close so you know third down conversions were really good offensively and um you did a great job of getting them off the field when we had our opportunities and you know those are things that we practice and have a great emphasis on throughout fall camp and I need to see that carry over into the first game that's something I was really pleased with. So I thought this was going to be one of the better games of the week and I thought this was going to be a nail-biter maybe even multiple overtimes you guys ended up dominating them in the second half uh you're trailing by three though after you know the first half just what really changed in that second half what was the vibe like in the locker room because you guys really took it to them in that second half coach. You know I just told our guys to go out there and you know obviously had to kind of calm down just a little bit you know guys were you know really emotional in the first half you know first game you know a lot of build up um I thought we made some uncharacteristic mistakes that uh you know that cost us in moments and you know told them to you know we got to go relax and you know clean up the mistakes and just go play you know Florida State football and um you know we didn't have to make a ton of adjustments to it you know we believed in what our plan was you know we knew that we wanted to uh continue to attack and and you know our guys you know they executed at a very high level and made some big big time plays and uh obviously it helped contribute to a um to a great win. You know the expectations are sky high for your football team I know one win doesn't define a season but this is a big one after having uh two days to kind of think about it just how do you put into words what this means for the program? I mean you know we wanted to start off one and oh and you know it was a great game it was on a grand stage you know it was two top teams two top 10 teams in the country and you know we were able to accomplish what we set out for uh you know now it's now it's time to go get better and that's that is our focus that's our objective you know we talk about it every day around this program uh that we're here to to to improve and get better and you know continuing to push to be our best and so uh if we can if we can continue that here this week and uh you know how we prepare and what we do you know I got a lot of confidence in where this team will go but you know it was a big game I don't I'm not gonna short sell um you know just what that game you know was and you know there's a lot of eyes on it you know a lot of a lot of expectation a lot of build up it was a great part of fan base great for a university um but for our team it was our first chance to go out showcase our identity and I thought you know for the most part we were able to do that at a very high level and now we've got to go improve from it. We've seen your quarterback for a long time in Jordan Travis you talk about keep on getting better it seems like he does that each and every year how did you see him get even better with all the experience that he has with the work that he put in the offseason? No I mean he's playing at a very high level I think he's one of the best players in the country um you know watching him prepare watching the way that he works um he just the investment he makes into his teammates uh you as a leader I mean he's a special he's especially young man and you know even looking back at uh the game on Sunday you know he was he was able to to be a great example for us I mean there's a few things that he missed early um you know he he would even admit to it that you would like to have a couple plays back but um you know just watching how he responded you know the touchdown drive there uh in the second quarter was huge you know made a couple great throws great decisions uh and then as we got in the second half or in the second half he was lights out and you know he's playing with tremendous confidence he's got some great playmakers around him but uh you know he he really is uh you know the spark that makes us go and uh you're definitely glad to be able to have an opportunity to coach him florida state head coach mike norvell here with us after his huge victory up against lsu it is the zach gilb show on cbs sports radio you know the transfer portals the the name of the game these days uh keon coleman and his debut for florida state gives you nine receptions 122 yards and three touchdowns what has made his transition from michigan state to florida state just seems so seamless i mean it was a great fit for our program i mean yes you can turn on the film you can see his athletic ability you know his playmaking skills uh but much everything about him is just you know what the type of teammate he is the more test that he brings i mean he cares about winning and uh he just has such a great uh great attitude you know he was like i said he was absolutely right fit for our program what we were looking to uh to continue to build our team with and uh you know he just it's been a very smooth transition the way that he works and uh you know the work that he put in the summer of you know working on his timing with jordan you're learning the plays you know the different concepts you know all the things that we wanted him to be able to do um and for that to show up in game one is just really a testament to to who he is and uh how important it was to to prepare himself at a high level to be able to make that type of impact when you look at johnny wilson that was another wide receiver i know he's at arizona state in 2020 2021 he's been with your program the last two years uh he had another good showing for you last year and then another good showing the other night uh for people that aren't familiar with johnny i know he's a big kid uh what can people expect to see out of him this season you know johnny i mean he's a special player as well i mean he's six seven almost 240 pounds i mean he can run i mean he's he's truly a dynamic player on the perimeter uh you know i thought you know the other night he went for over 100 yards and uh you know he's just um you know what he can do pushing the ball vertically down the field you know is is impressive but he also has has the ability uh you know in the intermediate game to make big plays for us and he was able to do a little bit all of it uh you know there the other night you know also a very selfish young man i mean you know you watch you watch him play without the ball in his hands and he's a dominating blocker uh he does the dirty work and uh you know just another great teammate that's uh made a made a great impression on our team he's a wonderful leader for our program coach the transfer portal isn't easy we're talking about guys you know i haven't even mentioned jared verse yet and we know how much of a stud he's going to be he's going to be dominating sundays for a long time uh some coaches have been able to adapt to it some haven't why have you guys been able to adapt in such a in a positive way with the transfer portal with some of these players we're talking about yeah i think it all comes down to evaluation and you know i talk about it a lot you know finding the right fit whether it's a high school young man uh your junior college or get somebody coming out of the transfer portal uh you know you want to find the right fit for your program and each year you know our roster is going to be you know a little bit different you know um you know some years you know we you talk about that year with johnny and his class you know we needed we needed older more experienced receivers to build that competition um it was something that you really helped elevate you know our offense we have some really you know really good and talented young guys that have been able to develop and grow within the program and uh you know when when doors and opportunities open themselves you know guys guys are are pushed you know by that competition and uh you know i think that you know we just found the right guys that have come in and you know be able to make an impact and you know not only have been great players but you know great leaders and bought into the culture that we have here and coach i know you're trying to build something special and this train's moving the right direction we've talked about it the expectations are sky high for this club you know it though right you lose a game people want you fired you win a game you're the greatest thing ever how have you been able through all those ups and downs at such a big school like florida state been able to not let that noise affect you to get the program in the spot where it is today you know i'm uh i believe in i believe in what we do i believe in how we do it um you know i've got i've had coach i've got to be the example for these players and for the staff of what you know what it needs to look like and you know there's days that you know obviously i've made mistakes there's days that i've you know that um you know there's been ups and downs with it but you know it's about how you respond it's about the work ethic that you're willing to pour into it it's about how you treat people and you know just really all all parts of it that if you can be that example then you know hopefully it'll rub off on others and you'll help give them the confidence in what they could overcome so uh you're just trying to stay focused on what we could do to to get better as a program to continue to help develop these players so they can go out there and play at an elite level and i've got a lot of belief in the guys i get to coach and you know i'm grateful for the opportunity i get to come to work with them every day and you know it's just been a lot of fun uh just seeing them rise up to to showcasing you know who they are and what they're all about well coach forget the fact that you have a great staff and you have so many just wonderful players on both sides of the ball the reason you won that game is my producer hot take keiki who just mushes teams left and right he picked lsu to win 34 to 17 so you should probably thank him because he's never right and he went against you guys you guys ended up winning the game big well i mean tell them to keep picking against us and it sounds like i'll take those odds every week dana absolutely love it hey well coach we really do appreciate you carving out some time you're always so benevolent with us when on cpl sports radio and here is hickey right now talking to mike norvell what was that conversation like did did he know he was talking to you oh i'm not sure but i said just thank you so much for the time just being a good steward of the show i'm not gonna interject myself there and say also i got nothing to say i was wrong and i can't brag what do you i'm gonna say hey coach i like what i don't i don't know he he's got me after that game honestly i'm speechless i hate to say it when the worst spot i got nothing to say yeah uh what a victory that was um when you look at that football team though are you now fully bought into them because your view of of them going into this year you just weren't buying the hype right that is correct sunday proved that i was wrong in the sense that they absolutely had the talent to be with anybody they have the high level talent i was a little skeptical because a lot of the reason people were all in last year right was they won six games in order they finished really strong yeah you look at the competition they played it was not like they they when they played good teams they lost they played bad teams they won that to me is not like i was not buying into that sort of hype that this is a team that could go toe to toe with a top team like lsu clearly saw on sunday they absolutely can my only concern and i still might pick them against now uh clumps in in a few weeks my only concern is no pick them okay i went into the weekend thinking they're gonna lose to lsu and they're gonna lose to clumps and me two and two after the first month okay that was my preconceived notion clearly i'm already 0 for one um the only thing i'm worried about is they have been under norvella streaky team where they have when they've lost they've lost two three four games in a row they've been a team where they could rip off six seven wins in a row but they've also been a team six seven wins in a row but they've also been a team where it's win win win lose lose lose win win lose lose lose lose i'm a little concerned still or maybe not fully sold this the streakiness is totally gone here's the thing that i'll say and i think this is one of the things in sports that we do that makes it so tough and i know you're getting paid a ton of money so no one's gonna have sympathy for you when you have a program like florida state which lost its way right not to the level of a texas not to a level of a miami in terms of losing your way where we keep on asking are they back are they back are they back but they went in a direction where it wasn't looking like florida state and the florida state seminars that we know it it takes time you need a little patience like that's why i asked him coach you've seen the games where people want you fired and run out of town and now you're the greatest thing in the world and this guy took over in 2020 right in the heart of the pandemic so you kind of throw that season out then in 2021 was below 500 last year gets to 10 wins and then you open up the season where you could look at last year and say uh and we didn't know how good lsu was going to be and uh the missed kick at the end and all that stuff but this was just a beat down of a team that everyone thought was the second best team in the sec so i look at what mike norvell is doing is it's a product of building this guy is great in the transfer portal he has a team that's humming on both sides of the ball reverse is going to be a top 15 pick in the draft probably and then you have jordan travis who's going to be a heisman trophy candidate and could win the award if they win the acc and what he's been able to do not that it changes the program completely overnight and not that you win a national championship based off one game but this is a win that it validates what he's doing and there's still a long ways to go but you look at this schedule who's the team that you look at their schedule and say they can't beat i play southern miss you play boston college clemson can they have a pulse can they show up no i gotta see clemson and i'm not gonna say that's gonna be an easy game but right now i definitely pick florida state you got virginia tech syracuse duke had a good showing wake forest pits always a gritty team miami north alabama florida i don't think it's a stretch to say that this team is going to be undefeated going to the college football playoff i really don't and even if they drop one you could afford to drop one because if you end up winning the acc and a one loss team you would think you would be able to get into the college football playoff but what was so impressed about that game the other night and i think even you tweeted this out at one point and i was watching the game from afar as i was at a wedding and i was several cocktails deep like you felt as if this should have been 21 7 lsu at one point i remember seeing that on social media at some point and that game was a three-point game at halftime and in the second half lsu got punched in the mouth and they didn't even know what hit them we're after the game hickey you're going to be the game hickey you're even saying this where brian kelly's talking about how they thought they were georgia how else you thought they were georgia now i'm not saying that was him saying that the the team just totally like overlooked florida i'm sure they had respect for florida state but you had both these teams that heading into the year i think we could both agree lsu was was highly praised florida state was highly praised one team was ready for a full game the other team at halftime just thought it was going to be a walk in the park in the second half in lsu and they'd be fine if they just showed up it'd be a close game because of all the mistakes that they made in the first half and they were the team that ended up just getting absolutely destroyed and dragged up and down the field of that second half their mental focus was definitely absolutely key so again coming right out of halftime they get the stop they get you know they go right down score touch on their unstoppable offensive in the second half and they look like they wanted to be there but like it was a very sloppy first half again lsu had plenty of opportunities they moved the ball up and down the field very easily against that defense their own their own poor blocking their own poor mistakes it was a kind of sloppy game on both sides but michael develo's credit like i said just the relax maybe pulled an aaron rogers and spelled it out r-e-l-a-x in the locker room they came out with a confident team where they were not shy or scared whatsoever they played great it is zack yelp's show on cbs sports right now there's no excuses like i know they lost three games in a row last year that was their only three losses if this team has three losses this would be a bad season for florida state that's how good of a football team they could be in an acc that's not horrible but it's not a great acc where clemson doesn't spark fear in anyone you know pit's always gritty duke has a really good quarterback and we saw what they just did to clemson florida state and we you could say this and you can feel good about it florida state should win the acc this year there's a reason i picked them before the year to do that and they should also be in the college football playoff and that's not just crazy after one one game because that's how they were being talked about before the start of the season as a team that it was either florida state or clemson to win the acc and you know one of you knew one of those teams when it was all said and done would not necessarily get into the playoff but they would be a contending team to be thrown into the hopper of how many ever teams you want to consider that get under consideration for the four teams to get into the college football playoff zach yelp shows cbs sports radio coming on back for the the dust settles from last week's games it's time to look at which teams are rising and which are falling and there's an interception zach ranks his top five nfl in college football teams on this week's edition of take five only on the zach yelp show all righty hickster since it's the new season of take five i'll let you decide first should i go nfl or college let's go college as we just talked to mike novell in college on the tip of the tongue okay in at number five a team that is my pick to win the pac-12 which is such a tough conference this year and probably their final year of existence they had a game that was i don't want to say considered a tough game but had people interested in both of these quarterbacks when you look at michael penix jr and tailing green and boise state is projected to win their conference but it's a game that washington is supposed to win it's one thing when you win a game that you're supposed to win even though it could be viewed as an opponent that's a solid good opponent but when you blow them out that's another thing and that just reiterates the type of football team that i think washington has it's not a game that's going to define your season but it's a good first impression they have a really tough stretch at the end of the season where in back-to-back-to-back games they play usc utah and oregon state but michael penix was really just picked up right where he left off from a year ago when he was getting a lot of buzz to go be a heisman trophy finalist even though he didn't get the invite to new york but he starts off this college football season with 450 yards passing a great wide receiving cord too and uh he was able to toss five touchdown passes for washington so i give michael penix jr a lot of credit and there's he's a big reason and i like kaitlyn to bore a lot why i have washington in at number five four it's going to be alabama alabama was the team that was doubted before the start of the season not everyone picking them to be in the sec championship game and i'm not saying that a game up against middle tennessee state is going to make everyone jump up and down like a fat kid in a candy store but you can only play who's on your schedule and i thought jayla milro with five total touchdowns three through the air and two on the ground gave you an impressive performance and now it's the big one now you go up against texas a team that you could have lost to last year and quit viewers got hurt now let's see if you're able to take care of business once again and play a bet you know up against a much better team a better brand of football so i'll put alabama in at four three just heard from their head football coach mike norvell at florida state jordan travis going to be a heisman trophy candidate versus the defensive side of the ball is phenomenal and like i said about washington now that game you look at the opponent for florida state up against lsu that was supposed to be a dogfight that's a heck of a team that was two top 10 teams on paper heading into the season in the country and just as i said for washington you blew out boise that gives you extra points for florida state you blew up uh you blew out uh lsu and that gives you a ton of extra credit as well so i'll put the seminars in at number three number two i think this could be a controversial take not in terms of the team because it's michigan and michigan's just a phenomenal team entering the season in college football with all that they returned but everyone for the heisman trophy is going to be talking about kayla bulliams they're going to be talking about michael pennix jr you're going to be talking about jordan travis shadore sanders even i'm gonna make a case for jj mccarthy to win the heisman this year michigan i think's gonna win the big 10 michigan could be undefeated at most they'll have one loss going into the college football playoff and they'll be there and their running backs are loaded when you have blake quorum and donovan edwards and now you have colston loveland who's in his second year there at michigan he's he's great at catching the football so with how many mouths there are to feed usually the quarterback does the best job of playing point guard and at the end of the year against ohio state jj mccarthy played his best game i don't know what the odds are for mccarthy to win the heisman and i've seen a lot of these uh preseason list as like a top 10 top 15 candidate it would not surprise me at the end of the year if jj mccarthy wins the heisman trophy but michigan's first few games of this year are a bunch of cupcakes michigan takes care of business mccarthy looked really damn good they're in a number two and the number one is georgia until someone takes down the georgia bulldogs they have earned the spot for the last two years and now bleeding over into year number three of being the top team in college football and uh carson beck playing was 21 and 31 294 yards and a touchdown and also had a rushing touchdown up against ut martin so once again taking care of business as georgia does but those are my top five teams right now washington five alabama four florida state three michigan two and georgia one hot take hickey speak now forever hold your peace you mentioned one pac-12 team what about the only team in the country that is two and l the usd trojans so we all know caleb williams is phenomenal i won the heisman last year going to be the number one overall pick in the draft it's not going to shock anyone if he wins the heisman once again this year and you're going up to start the year against nevada san jose state they dominated both teams 56 to 28 66 to 14. i think washington is a more well-rounded football team that's why i put washington in front of usc and usc's defense concerns me when their schedule is going to pick up in intensity usc their offense is good enough to get to college football's uh you know birth but i think their defense is going to end up what not allows them to to go to the level where they want to go for this year what about ohio state who started the season with a road conference victory and not a game where you're really puffing your chest if you're ohio state fan the two receivers i know marvin harrison jr got hurt then came back but the two wide receivers did basically nothing and kyle mccord and to try to make a first impression did not make a first impression that was a great one like it wasn't horrible in the game but for so many years the last few years the quarterback wasn't a question at ohio state it's a legitimate question now and in a big 10 that has michigan that has penn state and ohio state's in that grouping i trust the quarterbacks at michigan i trust the quarterbacks at michigan with jj mccarthy and then your guy drew aller at penn state i know it wasn't the best start in the first half but he ended up making some really good throws i trust those two quarterbacks more than i do kyle mccord much then finish right there penn state and drew aller why aren't they in the top five right now i know that you had a good time going up against west virginia and you making the trip to happy valley that first half was not a phenomenal one they have a great run game they have a great uh quarterback defense looks to be really good i gotta just see more from penn state before i start to put them in front of teams like washington and alabama florida state that had that big victory up against lsu and then michigan and georgia have been the last two college football playoffs the georgia winning both of them alrighty so that is uh the college side of this now in the nfl to preview the season and at number five a lot of people are starting to doubt this team they still have josh allen he still has to fund digs they'll eventually get von miller back after the first four weeks of the season where he's out on pup this is a football team that they win a ton of games you got to knock them off inside the afc east we'll see teams that are more than capable of doing that this year like the dolphins and the jets who had success last year up against buffalo but it's different in terms just winning a game and then winning a division with buffalo having josh allen who's still a top five and top three or four quarterback in football they start the year in at number five but that's a team that people are are questioning and we'll see if that actually works in their benefit and they can use that as a little motivation after last year everyone picked them to go to the super bowl in at number four i know you have a contract situation with boza right now this is one of the best teams in football one of the more well-rounded teams in football their only concern is the quarterback and that's the san francisco 49ers you got my bff debo you got brandon iuk you got christian mccaffrey you got all the defensive players a really good offensive line kyle shannahan even though he could be arrogant at the quarterback position he is a really good head coach the 49ers seems like each and every year they're in the nfc championship game to start the year they got to be a top 14 though in the nfl three this is where it got tricky because you knew who one was going to be it was just who's going to be two is going to be three i ended up going with the cincinnati bangles where the last two years they've taken the league by storm super bowl appearance afc championship game you have joe burrow i'm not concerned with the injury i think it's the most overblown thing you have the three tremendous wide receivers led by jamar chase t higgins and tyler boyd that defense lou anna rumo has found a way to play really well in the postseason and make timely stops i put the cincinnati bangles in at number three two i didn't see this team really play a bad game last year maybe outside the saints game and they were missing jaylen hurts in that game but the philadelphia eagles i know that they lost both they lost both coordinators they lost hargrave they lost cj gardner johnson but you look at that offense you have jaylen hurts you have the best offensive line in football uh you have um d'andre swift wide receiving wise devante smith aj brown tight end is dallas got it that offense is just loaded and defensively you still have some dogs and some really good players eagles in at number two and the number one to be the champ you got to beat the champ so far since they haven't played any games yet the champs aren't have a loss in the win-loss column so kansas city as long as you have number 15 you'll always be in the super bowl contending conversation even though there's some concern because chris jones has to figure out that contract travis kelsey now dealing with an injury probably won't play on thursday night even though he hasn't been officially ruled out against the lions but last year everyone doubted the can city cheese so they ended up giving you the middle finger winning the super bowl hot take hickey as i go bills five 49ers four bangles three eagles two chiefs one speak now however ever hold your peace mike floyer had the dolphins in his top five what does he see that you don't well it's actually weird because this is gonna make no sense i'm pretty sure tomorrow i'm gonna pick the dolphins to win the afc east so you'd be like oh well then why aren't the bills in front of them the way i view this in terms of it's the top five teams right now before the start season have the best chance to win a super bowl and it wouldn't surprise me if buffalo since i'm not saying the regular season doesn't mean anything but they'll never get enough praise in the regular season regardless what they do if they wait to play their best football come postseason time the dolphins are phenomenal and you know the names that they have especially in that secondary even with ramsey getting hurt and i think phillips is phenomenal coming off the edge but it's still that concern of tuatunga viola with the help and if tuat gets hurt even though you have jaylen waddle and you got tyree kill and you got raheem mostard and you got jeff wilson jr then that season goes right down the drain and i know they played well in that playoff game of schuyler thompson but for miami that's a team that has a ton of potential and a team that could really get there but now it's time to put up or shut up and finally scott hanson about an hour ago in the show so the jaguars are a super world contender in his mind you would think super contender would mean top five team in the league or the jags well not always because i think the jaguars are a heck of a team trevor lawrence's stud you know me i love doug peterson they're a top five team in the afc just not a top five team right now in the nfl and scott hit the nail right on the head if they want to go to a super bowl or even let's just say an asc title game this year you need travon walker to be showing that he's worthy of that number one overall pick you got it right with trevor lawrence now travon walker has to take that big step in your number two all right that's a little take five tuesday right here on the zach yelp show once again washington five alabama four florida state three michigan two georgia one and then when it comes to tcu was in the national championship game a year ago and if you recall dion sanders joined us two weeks ago right here on cbs sports radio and said he knows basically everyone that's been doubting the football team and he can't wait to show what his team is going to be able to do and he's got those receipts so here is dion sanders post game when he asked ed warner who i guess a long time reporter was doubting dion and this colorado team if he believes in the team now what's up boss you believe that of all of them you you know hold on hold on oh no do you believe that huh who said i didn't believe before no no no i ran through that bull he wrote that i ran i ran through that i sifted through what did i write yeah what did i write oh no can i ask my question do you believe in what you don't believe i had to believe you just answered it you don't believe next question so i have no problem with that i think that's fun and i don't think it was done in like a malicious way by dion sanders but now maybe it's just because people i follow i follow the sports media people being in the business that i am how many people in our field that were like oh dion sanders he's got to understand the role the media is not to be a cheerleader they should be able to doubt your team and i don't know what ed warner doubted them and i don't even think ed kind of knew maybe he was just trying to avoid it but i have no problem with dion kind of throwing it back in and reporters face their hickey no problem with that whatsoever 100 agree if if it's the reporter that is actually saying what he what he said like edward is an nfl reporter i i mean i made him wrong i i'll be honest did not look to research but i don't think ed's writing about colorado and ed's disbelief i don't think is him trying to just hide in the moment of oh i never doubted you after he writes a 3000 word article for his pin about how colorado's a failure i don't think he's now going back that's the only thing i was confused about is why he's attacking like he was basically using ed again to kind of be a punching bag for all the other doubters that weren't there but otherwise maybe it had something brian kelly saying the blowout loss is on him i take full responsibility for not having our team playing the kind of football i thought they would and um our players have got to make a decision that you know they they have to get back to um the practice field and double down on their efforts and their attention to detail and their focus and and the things that they need to do as well it's a horrible showing but last year they lost that game against florida state and they still ended up going to an sec championship game so this is not a good day obviously if you're an lsu fan and it could come back to bite you if you don't win the sec and then you're looking to get a second sec team in there and florida state's right there let's say like one loss as a conference champion they beat you then you should be sol but they could still recover here and you look at their schedule the rest of the way it's scrambling mississippi state arkansas old miss all right almost could be a tough game missouri auburn army alabama will be a tough game florida georgia state and then anm what at most tiki three three losses here for lsu maybe four if it if bleep really hits the fan now that would be a disappointing season for them where the hype was but it's not as if that this season's over after one game for lsu that schedule 11 games left they should realistically go 10 and 1 so it should be go like they should still win the sec west and still be should be sitting there at 10 and 2 i can't say that right now that like they were my pick to to win their division but can i say that they're definitely going to crush alabama when they play them i'm not saying crush we'll see what alabama this weekend but i got still doubts about alabama fair but i it's just not a lock when you have that bad of a performance in the half of football up against a team that was also viewed similarly to you as a team that was one of the better teams in college football let's hear from jordan travis the quarterback at florida state and he says it was a true team win for the knolls it's easy when i have great teammates around me just to push me and tell me they got my back no matter what got a great defense too that keeps us in the game the entire time no matter turnovers all that stuff they have my back yeah you got guys like keon johnny those guys making big-time plays making my job easy but yeah i mean the offensive line stepped up it starts up front every single time they stepped up that second half and made it made it easy for me so i'm i'm grateful for them let's go to dabo swinney his team lost to duke and dabo swinney says this was the weirdest loss of his career an incredibly disappointing loss that's honestly all my years of football i've never been a part of a game like that ever since i've been the head coach we were 58 no when we rushed for 200 and passed for 200 never lost ever you know but you got to finish you got to finish and obviously we we did not do that you can tell me the stats all you want that you threw for over 200 yards and you rushed her over 200 yards clemson just doesn't have enough talent that's why belchik says stats are for losers you either won the game or you didn't duke beat you 28 to 7 and here's my problem with dabo swinney i said this in 2021 and clemson fans dragged me his arrogance is costing the program and what i mean by that is when you tell basically eric macklin that dj wonguile makes trevor lawrence look average with things that he could do and you just disrespect at ohio state put him 11th or 12 in the coaches poll right before you're about to play them it's just stupid things that are easily avoidable and another thing that's stupid with dabo swinney's doing is he's not embracing the transfer portal so when you have a talent problem at clemson and you could have a more talented roster and you're not even getting the most of the players that you have you're not putting your team in the best position and how many coordinators have changed how many quarterbacks have changed and look at the result right now where you had clemson go win an acc like last year but they never team that we thought oh they're going to be a force in a college football playoff they didn't even make it and that's why i said going into this year that i like florida state to win the acc because they're a better team they're more talented team and for depth and for the team and for dabo you've reached the point where now you got to change now you got to adapt yeah you did great things for clemson they'll forever be grateful what are you gonna do for the next five to ten years and kind of be like coach k at duke and coach k didn't want to deal with one and duns did end up winning a championship and clemson
