Trey's Future Lanced? (Hour 1)

Little Raider action today on first and goal with JT The Brick who you will hear I think the next two days filling in for the legendary Jim Rome right here on CBS Sports Radio. We'll also double dip on first and goal today and talk about the Miami Dolphins at 9 20 p.m Eastern, 6 20 p.m Pacific with Leroy Hoard. But first up producing the extravaganza is no other than Hot Take Hickey. This dumb producer Hot Take Hickey. So this is kind of inside radio stuff I'm sure most of you don't care but Hickey I'm sure you're gonna find this interesting just because we were just talking about it. So we got a new call screener here so for people that don't know what that is you call you give your name to Hickey you're in the system they have how many times you call but they updated the version of the call screener here. So it looks like the old one did there's just some new features one of them Hickey is they have a clock on it but the problem is the clock isn't telling the right time it's 6 0 2 right now about two minutes ago it said 6 0 2 and Hickey now it's going in reverse now the clock next to me says it's 5 57 46 and is counting down so I don't know what the heck is going on right there but leave it to us here at CBS Sports Radio they finally upgrade the equipment and the little thing of the clock working correctly is totally out of sync and now time is going backwards and counting down I wonder what happens when it gets to zero here because right now it says five hours 57 minutes and 17 seconds well I guess we're not going to find out because I'm not staying here for five hours but do you win a prize do you get some big sounding like booms and things like that and we all of a sudden we have a big celebration in here and maybe balloons fall down from the ceiling here at 345 Hudson Street. I guess JR is going to find out in about a little less than six hours from now what's going to happen which would kind of be funny because JR does his show out of Atlanta and Shep is here in the studio so JR does not see the call screener that I see here in our New York City studio so imagine if something does happen and you have JR who can't see what's going on inside the New York City studios and you get all these sound effects very interesting start to their show last night by the way I was walking home and I tuned in JR goes to Shep just out of nowhere like as he you know polite guy does right to start every show like how you doing Shep good to see you back from vacation Shep goes on like an eight minute rant how much he loves working with JR which is nice and that's why he did not interview for the open position here at CBS Sports Radio and Hickey as much as I love Shep and respect Shep it seemed like he was taking some shots at other people I don't know if he intended to come off this way but he goes everyone interviewed for this job there's about two people in the company that did an interview for the vacant morash position which is DA's what executive producer slash co-host I believe the title is and even in the newsroom I don't know did Shep kind of give you a dirty look last night because Shep made a comment to me off the air which was you and Hickey have such great chemistry I can't believe Hickey interviewed for that position and I said to him I encouraged Hickey to interview for this position so this is what's starting to bug me now because I get some people tweeting at me about this and then Shep said it as well I encouraged Hickey to interview but people think I'm going to be mad at DA if you get poached to be the next producer or people think that I'm furious at you because you interviewed for the job I just don't get people and that's the thing sometimes people they always think they know the inner workings of a show but they really don't so how about that Hicster I think Shep is kind of walking around the studio with his chest out look at me I did an interview for the position and shame on everybody else that did which I don't really get but I don't know if behind the scenes there's some contentious relationships building with producers but I'm going to investigate this no doubt about it I mean I will say Shep when I saw him yesterday before his show started off when we were passing the baton if you will from our show to his show he was very kind asking how the interview went so nice I you know I give Shep credit he's very passionate I think that passion is coming off as like I'm a loyal guy look at me I'm not even gonna look you know it's like a they're gonna look around at the other girls in the room here I'm only looking at my own girlfriend Shep can do what he wants you know who Shep is who's that well it's not a fair comparison in terms of what this person has accomplished that I'm going to compare Shep to but Shep is is Rory McElroy shame on everybody else for going to live golf and taking the money I'll sit at my current job and and hold the the flag of of the JR Sport Prefund CBS Sports Radio and no amount of money can change David Sheppard which I do appreciate to some extent but I would not fault anyone that is interviewing for that job especially if they go get earlier you know in and out of work and more money so I'm not mad at you at all for interviewing now I hope Shep is not like Rory where Rory said if live golf you know if it's live golf or nothing I'll just retire and basically walk away from golf I hope Shep's not sitting there all of a sudden they you know in this bizarre world living and forced him to produce any other show he goes I'm gonna retire look I love Shep I'm not gonna count his money working in radio no one's retiring at RH anytime soon so no one's retiring at RH anytime soon so we need speak for yourself we need the job okay Shep don't retire don't go leave the business because it's JR bust I'm halfway there like Rory McElroy I don't know how many more years I got left in this business maybe I'll negotiate a new contract and then announce my retirement like four years in advance is that what that countdown clock is really for it's actually counting down to your retirement it's like a years five years 47 days until Zach hangs it up you know what I think you're in cahoots with the engineers around here this is five years and 52 days until I get on out of here until I leave the company I think you talked to the engineers and said let's get this guy Gelb out of here after last night's show where you just got abused for four hours with how wrong you've been on Jonathan Taylor and that is basically what a count just about a little less than 60 days a little less than two months or right around august 1st so there we go you're gonna be here for the first month of football season the Patriots like one in three you're gonna call it quits and say you know what now is my time to leave the dynasty is over and so is the reign of Zach Gelb and I'll never talk to you again nice knowing you have a good life see where you're gonna go an island on the beach for another and you're 28 about 29 so another say 60 years bare minimum I think I may channel my inner Kyrie Irving I think people should just respect my art and I would go to an island and just hope that like Jay in Alaska Mike and Abilene Texas just come to that island and pay a ridiculous amount of money to see me do what I do that's the goal not a bad life I would you know I like that challenge 60 years on the beach let me see if I can get bored all righty let's get into the San Francisco 49ers because I know what's going on here every time the 49ers speak even if the message throughout the last few years has been confusing now they are being calculated and they're going to try to prop up Trey Lance because they know Trey Lance won't be the starting quarterback this year and if you believe some certain reports I don't even know if Trey Lance is going to be the backup he may be the third string quarterback with how many people the entire off season which it makes me want to vomit have been just oh I love Sam Darnold oh Sam Darnold's great oh this is the most talent he's ever had so now we're gonna see swinging Sammy Darnold like what we saw back to his days for a little bit at USC like give me a break with Sam Darnold who's took his two career low lights I can't even say highlights so far because there hasn't been any is the guy getting mono when he was with the Jets and then when he saw Ghost up against the Patriots so let's pump the brakes on the redemption tour for Sam Darnold when he's probably going to be the backup quarterback this year but for Trey Lance here is what is the amazing part to me and if you are an organization that goes all in for a quarterback and gives up significant draft capital which the 49ers did it's very tough to recover from that and not only recover thrive off that and be one of the better teams in the league with that guy not coming anywhere close so far to reach right his potential he was one of those highest ceiling guys entering the draft going back to all those debates that Hickey and I had where Hickey's like if he puts it all together watch out for Trey Lance that's like me saying hey if Hickey puts it all together on the radio Jim Rome, Colin Coward, Dan Patrick all you guys you better watch out for hot take Hickey if he puts it all together you got to watch out for that guy so that's what Trey Lance was most of us did not see him play that one year he played in North Dakota State that unfortunately here his final year there got wiped out I think he played one game because of COVID and the moving of the schedule to the spring and all that stuff but it is amazing how the 49ers are almost a shoe in each and every year for the NFC title game and they're the second best team right now on paper in the NFC and they still don't have their quarterback figured out so usually when you swing and miss and you make a deal that was so big at the time what the Niners did Colin their shot given up a lot to go get Trey Lance Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch would have been out of a job like nine times out of ten but they've had the success even though it hasn't resulted in a Super Bowl victory they've had a lot of success on the field so it's tough to really get annoyed at John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan so so far and I know training camp it's in its early stages but most of the reports have been oh Trey Lance has looked horrible and I've seen some videos where he's not even come close on connecting on some of these throws but yesterday we finally get some positivity where in one breath Mike Silver said something positive and then he had other stuff reported in a column but Mike Silver said yesterday that it was the best day Trey Lance has had in training camp so far which is not a ringing endorsement because training camp is so young but I'm searching something to have a positive outcome with Trey Lance and you finally got some positivity judging by what you see on social media which has been so much negativity but then Mike Silver follows it up with an article last night talking about the possibility of the Niners maybe trading Trey Lance and he notes that his current value is something the Niners front office surely would find depressing as Mike Silver points out the Niners weren't offered anything better than a fifth round pick for Trey Lance in the spring and Silver goes on to say it's possible that impressive performances in next week joint practices against the Raiders and if you can't impress against the Raiders defense please you don't belong in the NFL and in the preseason could juice that up a bit as as could a wave of injuries to other team quarterbacks and then Mike Silver goes on to say worst case the 49ers could cut Lance and yes Silver says we're getting ahead of ourselves but this scenario is not outside the realm of possibilities a few things here even though Trey Lance has not panned out he really hasn't been given an opportunity to even come close to reaching his potential because in year one the plan was to go with Jimmy G and then last year when he was supposed to be the guy and he was supposed to take over he got hurt early on in the season and it didn't help for Trey Lance's case that Brock Purdy comes in and plays you know pretty damn good football and just one game after game after game in an offense where Kyle Shanahan I don't know how much he values the quarterback where he thinks it's the offense and the system and the talent around the quarterback more than a quarterback and I've said this forever until they figure out who the guy is that quarterback and they don't look back they're not going to win a Super Bowl they'll get close they've been close but they're not going to win a Super Bowl because you have to believe throughout the organization in your quarterback to go win it all but with all that being said even with how young Trey Lance is and he hasn't shown squat yet for a third overall pick with how many teams have given up something to go get a young quarterback thinking oh that organization didn't do them right they didn't really give an opportunity because you can't say the Niners didn't do right by Trey Lance here because they have a loaded roster the guy just hasn't been able to get on the field so I look at this and you see Sam Darnold talking about the devil himself what the Jets were able to get back from him with the Carolina Panthers how about Josh Rosen Josh Rosen was picked later than Trey Lance and the Miami Dolphins had to give up I think it was a second round pick to go get Josh Rosen but it's amazing to me Hickey after two years where how much hype was around this guy and really not even giving him an opportunity the 49ers have clearly soured on Trey Lance I know Kyle Shanahan didn't want him from the start but he was talked into him but their belief level is shot in Trey Lance and it's kind of stunning that with how ego runs rampant in the NFL how teams would only be willing to give up a fifth round pick for this guy when you've seen teams take on a lot of other quarterbacks that go early still on a rookie deal at that quarterback position and have given up a lot more like that's the crazy part to me and the other thing and then I'll let you chime in here Hickey is that I don't see how the I don't see why the Niners would cut Trey Lance I don't think he's a distraction in that locker room I don't think he's a bad teammate I don't call into question his work ethic I don't think there's any detriment in keeping Trey Lance because we don't know if Brock Purdie's gonna work and if Brock Purdie doesn't work over a full 17 game season and you got to make a change you could tell me right now oh you love Sam Darnold but are you really going to go to Sam Darnold over Trey Lance and not just see if Trey Lance when he's backed in into a corner can't come out swinging and be this guy that you believed in so much or talked into so much that you trade up all that draft capital to go get him it makes no sense if you want to tell me you just want to trade him and you get something back okay and I don't even agree with that but to but to just cut the guy heading into your number three I don't see any way how that actually happens I'm with you 100% there is zero benefit or upside for the 49ers just throwing this guy to the curb and giving him away for free um who was a former number three overall pick and a guy that you gave up two first round picks to go get so I'm with you 100% worst case scenario there's no downside of keeping him on the roster even if he's quarterback three keep him around and just if you need them like we saw last year they went through four quarterbacks at one point keep them just because you never know when it comes to basically losing faith in them it's almost a double-edged sword in a way because in one sense if you're Trey Lance you look at that roster you look at the coaching staff you go this is the best case for a scenario for me you're going to a team that has a lot of weapons around you a good offensive minding Kyle Shanahan like this is you can't ask for really a better situation to fall into he was supposed to be the missing piece right I'm not saying I thought he was going to be Patrick Mahomes but when the Chiefs got rid of Alex Smith and made that move up right to go get Mahomes it was Alex Smith could only take you so far Jimmy Garoppolo could only take you so far and now this is going to be the electrifying player with the Chiefs didn't even know how great Mahomes was at the time I give him credit for getting him and going up to to go get him but no one thought he was going to be one of the all-time great quarterbacks or be on that trajectory and you look at Trey Lance that was that idea right the Mahomes model of you have a really good team now let's go get electrifying player to take you over the top and go win that Super Bowl and this is why I say it's a double-edged sword for Trey Lances in one sense you are in the best position possible one of the best for you to develop the other side is the only downside is you lose time because the 49ers ready to win right now yeah they don't have time to see what Trey Lance is they don't have time to I don't want to say throw away a season but basically put the season out there and say Trey let's see what you got we're going to give you a leash of eight or seventeen games go figure it out if Trey Lance let's say if he was just a starter in 2023 let's just magically say he's a week one starter if he stinks in three weeks they don't have you know time to say ah you know what we'll see if he can work through it and he won't be the starter now he's not going to be but it's one of those things where you have a very short leash because if you can't prove you can win and win at a high level right away you have 52 other guys that are here trying to win a Super Bowl they don't have time to throw one season away to see if you got a quarterback it's who can give us the best chance to win right now we saw Brock Purdy step in right away and play hot and that's why he's the guy in 2023 and if the Brock Purdy story continues great it's a it's a wonderful story mr irrelevant all that stuff but a part of me is hoping and I don't want to root against Brock Purdy I don't want to come off that way but a part of me is hoping that we do see Trey Lance because the 49ers basically telling you no matter what they're saying positively like John Lynch yesterday give him credit for taking initiative to work with a private quarterback coach this offseason he's throwing the ball a lot better proud of what he's doing with the opportunities given um and then you just go on and on and on with that praise that's just to try to maybe entice another team to build up a conversation about Trey Lance up he did this well and then oh he did well in joint practices and then someone go goes and gives you a three when a few months ago only one would give you a five like that's the playbook that John Lynch is running but John Lynch is the guy that clearly wanted Trey Lance and then he had to talk Kyle Shannon into him and that's the other thing like you would have thought that John Lynch would try to squeeze every ounce out of Trey Lance because from my understanding that was his move even though he said we wouldn't have done it if Kyle wasn't on board from all the reports Kyle wasn't on board originally and he had to be talked into it so part of me does hope that we see Trey Lance this year because the only thing I disagree with the 49ers I'm not saying it's wrong to start Brock Purdy it's almost as if they've turned the page on Trey Lance and I don't think he's been given enough of an opportunity yet year one he wasn't designed to play and in year two unfortunately he got hurt I can't sit here and say that Trey Lance is a bust because the guy's been given an opportunity to perform yet and I just want to see what happens when he gets a decent amount of time if he's healthy to perform and if we do see that this year I could easily root for Trey Lance to go have success with the 49ers just hopefully you overthrow Deebo Samuel here or there because I'm not going to be rooting for Deebo this year or actually you know what Trey do me a favor here since I'm advocating for you put the ball right in the bread basket of Deebo Samuel in a big game and then drop that would be great to see Deebo Samuel just drop the ball late in the season and that's how the 49er season comes to a close but I want to see Trey Lance get a shot but until you have Brock Purdy stink he's not going to get that opportunity and the big question is and I'll give credit to Bonta Hill who joined us months ago he said don't be surprised if Brock Purdy isn't the guy or he gets hurt if they end up going to Sam Darnold which at first I thought that was incredulous and then through time I actually agree with it and it's easier to listen on a depth chart now and say that now and when push comes to shovel see if they do it but if you ask me today who they would go to if Brock Purdy got hurt in week three and who would be the week four starter let's just say for argument's sake I do think it would be Sam Darnold because this organization Kyle Shannon and John Lynch in two years have quickly soured on Trey Lance they don't believe that he's the guy anymore it should be Trey Lance who they go to but you're right they've talked about they praised Sam Darnold they've tried to praise Trey Lance but I think I'm with you it's more from the perspective of trying to get his trade value up so should and will you know always yell at me in terms of separating the two it should be Trey Lance god forbid if Brock Purdy gets hurt but it will be Sam Darnold if that day does come for San Francisco this year if you're Trey Lance you better hope that uh Sam Darnold gets mono again if that situation presents or sees ghosts either one that is true you got some good defense on the schedule and that could happen it is the Zach this is where we start to think way too much alike I'm at my barber today get a a small little haircut got shaved as well uh you know got got rid of whatever facial hair I had and um I'm thinking to myself when they put the hot towel on my face and try to go to sleep for like 10 minutes as the barber is just chirping my ear off about he's the boss that uh this barber that I go to so he runs the whole joint how one of his uh oh not even co-workers well I guess a co-worker but one of his employees is the word I'm looking for is not grateful and how he only cares about himself blah blah blah and when you have the hot towel go on your face you just don't want anyone to talk to you and I love my barber my barber's a really good dude um I like his his values as well you know we usually have good conversations what he's a big family man you're you're laughing at that his values he's a big family the way you said that just like oh he cuts great hair I love his value he does he always talking I don't think I've ever heard someone talk about a barber and with their values loving that he tells me everything uh this barber and he really does value family and working hard I like what uh my guy Levi is all about but I was just wishing today that he would just shut the bleep up I'm thinking to myself how are we going to get hickey shaved when you have to get this mustache only when Baker Mayfield doesn't make the playoffs and we can't just have it where you just shave yourself at home and then you post the photo I think we got to do it in studio now I am not going to trim your face to get your mustache out there but I think we should pick someone around here now maybe spike if he wants to stick around act I don't know I don't think act would want to shave you there's no way that you want to cut and trim the beard of a hot day kicky right you never know a little razor there ah keep the straight razor away from act I am I will tell you right now you make fun of me for calling out sick I will call out sick that is give me a straight razor save no thank you how about Denny I bet you Denny could uh trim a good beard this is what I've noticed around here a lot of people are on your side not that they will you know are out for blood or anything but you're giving them a chance I'm assuming it's gonna be a straight razor shave here I just you know what I'm not gonna put my neck on the line um literally literally yes maybe I'll pick a barber no no no no we need to okay you could pick a barber but they gotta come in that's fine that's fine would you like Levi Levi's great never cuts my face I would be open I mean Levi has good value so I can I say no he does he has tremendous value I was worried about Levi until you said good values and I said okay I'm in lock it up forget about how good of a haircut he gives good values my guy I'm gonna do some research around here and see who a good candidate would be and I'll narrow it down to like a list of five names you know what next time I meet with Spike I have a meeting next Thursday with Spike I'm gonna ask him I'm gonna go to my superior right my boss and I'm gonna ask him who should we have trim the beard you know or the what are we getting you a mustache well it's good I'll go full shave I don't care no no we that the whole thing is you gotta have something like you know like you have like a buzzer that just trims it down to like some stubble on the sides I'm saying I'll go clean shaven I'd be very as Baker Mayfield was clean shaven during halftime of his loss you have to walk around for her for a day with that mustache on well I'd walk around to my beard grows back I'd assume oh wow so you're not gonna you wouldn't take off the mustache I'd rather keep the mustache really be totally clean shaven it just I would the mustache at least is interesting clean shave I'm like oh no thank you not my look have you ever had a mustache um in high school I must ask you a question catholic school no beards allowed uh you could have a mustache though and for like three days me and my friends with no facial hair we said you know we're gonna grow out a mustache um so I had like a half of one and then all my friends chickened out and they said okay I'm not gonna do it by myself now you're sometimes self-conscious where you think you look a whole lot worse than what you actually do um like for example if you're listening to our morning show they think you're a sex icon and I've heard you say numerous times oh you're not attractive all that stuff blah blah blah blah blah do do you think you could rock a mustache because part of me would think that you may look a little creepy if you had the mustache there hot ticket um honestly I think I could I'm excited to see I'm trying for this weekend on the bachelor party where I'm trying to push mustaches wait you're going on a on a bachelor party yes where um to Scottsdale Arizona oh yeah we talked about this the no place you'd rather be in the middle of August middle of summer than in the desert um I'm trying to push everyone sponsoring that trip doing mustaches uh possibly oh that's I don't think you can take that on the plane so I guess maybe you got to touch down and get some in Phoenix what do you mean you can't take gold bond on a plane I feel like you're gonna need a lot you know aren't you limited the amount of powder you can take I've traveled with gold bond before like a heavy like heavy bottle or just like a maybe maybe it was it was under the plane maybe it wasn't on a carry-on but I've definitely traveled with gold bond okay I'll look into it I'm not an expert on the limitations on on what you could bring on an airplane or not but I'm just assuming because it looks a lot of cocaine that probably they would try to limit I don't think you're getting flagged at the airport because your gold bond looks like I don't know I don't want to be holding up people I don't want to be missing the flight because there's a question of what is actually in the bottle I am above board I do not do drugs if any cops are listening I will not be bringing drugs on the plane that does not sound very convincing just want to clear the air in case anyone was doubting that um so gold bond could be sponsoring the trip long story short but I'm trying to push mustaches so if we do wear one this weekend it'll be a well it's not gonna be dry runs Baker's gonna make the playoffs and the Bucks I'm not gonna be losing this bet but in this hypothetical world if I do lose the bet it'd be a dry run you say that so confidently and you said the same thing about the Broncos oh the Bronx don't we're gonna make the playoffs this year you were the same jackass last year that told me Baker Mayfield was a top five quarterback in the NFC and the Panthers were going to make the playoffs and then you also said the Broncos are going to go in the Super Bowl so why should I believe you this year when you were so confident last year and not only did you have a mustache on your face you had a lot of egg on your face easy what is the common thread between last year's Panthers and last year's Broncos very simple not a trick question coaching changes coaching bad coaching horrible coaching some of the worst coaching we've ever seen if you ask some current head coaches around this NFL about last year's coaching jobs Frank French Russell Wilson last year though Russell Wilson in a better spot this year the coach Baker Mayfield is not because Todd Bowles is not that much better of a head coach than Matt Ruhle was in Carolina so that is hurting a little bit but I'm gonna go with the consistency and the continuity that he's been there all offseason and has more chemistry now than he did this time last year so big Baker bounce back big Russ bounce back but I am very confident we'll see Baker and the Bucks in the playoffs and I'll be looking forward to dinner real quickly well you're really not going to get dinner because you still owe me a dinner so I'm just gonna train that case I'm going to look forward to canceling out the dinner at that point but bare minimum I'm winning the bet maybe I will cash in on my dinner right like next week or or two weeks from now so at least if I do lose the bet at least I could enjoy a fun dinner and a fun time with with hot day kicky that is if you're still my producer with all these jobs that you're interviewing for all these well I mean oh yes act this hmm I got to decline the job now you know how attire has changed a lot around here throughout the years now it's radio usually when you dress up in a a suit people think you're either going to a job interview or or a funeral yes but in our last program director the great Mark Chernoff legend he did not allow shorts he was very strict against shorts now the architect Chris Olivero he told me once when I was wearing a button down you dressed up too nice and you could wear shorts year-round when you're going for a job interview in radio I've never had to get dressed up for a job interview like I'll wear jeans and and maybe like a a polo or a nice t-shirt when you're going to interview to be a talk show host somewhere but for Hickey who was interviewing for the da producing job and the co-host of that show I saw that that you did oh you were in the office in the office so yeah I'm out then Hickey tries to stab me in the back and go interview somewhere else yeah even though I encourage Hickey to go for the job but he was wearing a tuxedo I thought that was I thought he liked it I did like it I said what are you doing and he said well everybody's wearing a suit so I'm going to go tuxedo and I was like you know that that is very good I think I gave him a lot of problems the last year we've seen Hickey take major strides where it used to be I'll just give you my sports take and not even care about the entertainment I think he started understanding the entertainment part of this business and that was a creative outside the box idea yeah that made content for the network absolutely and you know look I mean I think there's there's some merit look between interviewing for to the interview in the tuxedo I did I did did the splint get get brought up it was hard not yes it was hard not to miss okay and I was trying to write stuff down and that was the hardest part of the are they're going to Arizona and they're playing golf Saturday afternoon at 12 30. Hickey you want to know what the temperature is at 12 30 on Saturday afternoon 109 degrees now golf takes about four to five hours so when your round is ending 114 you better have a lot of high quality h2o you better have a ton of booze and a lot of sunscreen and then also I think we may need a hickey bucket hat this upcoming weekend at your big bachelor party I don't want to sound I'm not trying to be Mr tough guy I'm really not here I just want to throw something out there that I think the heat is getting a little overplayed it's 114 degrees it's hot I'm not saying it's not going to be hot we're going to be sweating I just think maybe the it's getting a little too much you know hype or maybe a little too much overblown where it's a dry heat we've been here in New York City where it's been a frying pan the humidity has been a million percent it's been 90 degrees I bet you 114 is going to feel a whole lot better than 95 degrees of 100 humidity down in the subway tracks where I have been now all summer long I ain't worried about the heat you know I'm not worried about the heat I will make it through the golf round no problem the hickey hex you're going to be in a hospital or something you'll be getting a call Tuesday I'll be not be here I'm in the hospital heat show you'll be leaving the show just not the way that I thought you would be leaving the show I'll be on a stretcher off the golf course but don't worry I'll be giving the thumbs up as I get to look to the other seven guys on the trip hickey will be there chanting no big deal no big deal how dumb are your friends Arizona for a bachelor party sounds great not in the middle of summer 114 degrees and this is classic hickey you are a natural contrarian as your as your bio would say and you usually find yourself in the minority yeah it's only 114 degrees won't be that hot I'm not saying it's not gonna be hot I I know going in it's gonna be hot I'm a guy who likes the heat I'm just saying and maybe I'm more speaking trying to speak in words I'm encouraging my friends because they've been kind of freaking out I just don't I gotta see it to actually believe that's all I'll say I just don't think it's actually gonna be as hot as maybe people are talking about so I'm reading an article right now what is a dry heat and is actually cooler than humidity and it's that the Arizona summer heat is no joke that's the opening uh line in that article so there you go well enjoy I'm actually you know check in with me over the weekend I want to make sure that you're okay and I want to know how hot it actually is in Arizona when you know text me at about 2 p.m on Saturday and and I just want to know how hot it is when you're golfing playing 18 holes how you gonna grip a golf club by the way with the state of your your finger well what did you do to your finger again dislocated it yeah top part of the middle right middle finger I'm a dominant righty so my dominant hand middle finger dislocated the top part and you guys are playing 18 we were playing 18 holes idiots playing on the good news is I have plenty of excuses when my golf game falls off the rails the heat I'll absolutely use it as an excuse now delete this audio and my finger you know still very stiff I really I'm trying to just I'm going to grip the club right now like I have it in my hand it still hurts a little bit now it's only Tuesday so we'll get a little treatment ice it up be ready for Saturday but look if I shoot a 1 0 actually if I shoot 100 I'll be really happy if I shoot a 150 just to know 150 bad finger in the heat that's horrible that's what I'm saying and I'll have two built-in excuses as to why the score is is what it is I bet you the temperature will be lower than your golf score the temperature is 114 I would take the over if you're throwing out a 150 oh I like that tell me you're someone that never better tell me that you've never played golf if you're saying you're going to shoot a 150 geez I've played twice this year now the courses I've played are easier um this is a big boy tough course in Arizona it looks interesting so we'll see maybe called Charles Barkley help fix your swing my biggest concern honestly is heading into like the bushes and seeing a snake then that's I mean I have a bad slice I'm a lefty it slices from right to left I am a little nervous I don't straighten it out that'd be great could be stepping on some cactus no no that would not be great are you out of your mind thank gobbles up I would be dead that'd be fun a rattlesnake a scorpion a spider now the good news is hopefully should be hot where they are hiding away but that is a big fear of mine by the way um unfortunate news last week with Jaylen Ramsey uh going down with and he had surgery already and he's going to be out for most of the 2023 season could come back early December as he has a full meniscus repair that he needed to get done I thought to myself all right you look at the AFCs it wouldn't shock with the Bills with the division clearly the Dolphins or the Jets I've been saying that I'm going to go with the Miami Dolphins to win that division I still think the Bills will go farther than them in the playoffs but I've been talking about the Dolphins winning that division you look at the Dolphins Hickey they remind me a lot like where the 49ers were a few years ago where they have so much talent on both sides of the ball the quarterback's a major question mark you look at the Chargers last year a team just got hit with the injury bug and everyone's going to talk about the health of Tuatunga, Vailoa even though Jaylen Ramsey took a step back at times last year that was a big move this off season another move showing that they're going to do whatever it takes to go for it and now at least he'll be projected to be back at some point as they said in December I just hope that doesn't start just a run of injuries with the Miami Dolphins because that would be very unfortunate because they're a team to me if you root for the Dolphins or not I just want to see what they can look like and you're never going to be fully healthy but if you get your quarterback healthy you have Tyree Kill and you also have Jaylen Waddle and just with all the names they have in the defensive side of the ball that's a team that could really do damage if they stay healthy and that's why if they fail you hope that their failure is on the field and not taken away from them injury wise where like you said it's three four five key contributors not playing they miss the playoffs or even worse have it be because they just stink not because they can't get on the field healthy and I was a team with Skyler Thompson as a third string quarterback last year they did go into Buffalo and they almost won that playoff game now they lost but they were down to their third quarterback with Skyler Thompson playing and they gave all they could so we'll see what happens coming up year two for Mike McDaniel with the Miami Dolphins I just hope they have good health coming on back with a little update on Hickey's guy Jonathan Taylor
