She'll say the sexual innuendos in their newsletters are meant for 7th graders, not grown men like you. She might even tell you that naming one of the products, quote, Fistiver Columbus is borderline offensive.

But as soon as you feel their soft inner liner and see how great their stretch material makes you look, you'll never want to take them off. Go to BirdDogs.com slash radio to find out for yourself. They'll even throw in a free tumbler. That's BirdDogs.com slash radio. We miss college football. Bennett takes the snap and the shotgun throws for the corner.

Brock Bowers one on one. Caught. Touchdown.

He ate him alive. Falls down into the end zone. Six more for Georgia.

We can't wait for the 2023 season. Caleb Williams throws the fade in the corner. Touchdown Trojans.

And we're counting down the days to kick off. Here is your college football fix only on the Zach Gelb show. Alrighty, let's spend some time right now with the former Georgia Bulldog. And that, of course, is Hudson Mason, kind enough to join us on the Zach Gelb show on CBS Sports Radio.

We'll go through the entirety of the SEC. Hudson, appreciate the time as always. How you been? I'm doing good, Zach. Hope you're enjoying your summer.

I am ready for some college football. Look forward to taking it with you here for a couple minutes. I did want to tell you, my one commitment to you today for the next 10 or 15 minutes is no matter what you ask me, I will not hang up on you. Good. You won't be joining Deebo Samuel. I'm not going to join the long list of people that have hung up on Zach Gelb on live radio.

That's some good stuff. Well, we'll see what we'll ask you to try to annoy you to get you to hang up on us. We were just talking about Georgia right before the break. And this is not a slight on them because they've won back to back national titles. They're expected to win three straight this year. You look at their schedule this year, even in the great SEC, no LSU, no Alabama, no A&M. Man, if they're not undefeated at the end of the regular season, that would kind of be disappointing.

Yeah, it would be. I mean, with SEC media days going on this week today, Georgia and Kirby Smart, it was their day in Nashville, Tennessee. And I was taking a peek at the schedule again.

And I just I go, holy cow, man, this is this is going to be a could be a little boring this year. A couple of jamborees to open up the year and no disrespect to South Carolina. But I mean, look, Georgia is going to be a double digit favorite in every single game they play. And I was going through the schedule and I was just asked myself, you know, what point do you even think that Georgia would get challenged? Somebody brought up Auburn to me and I don't I don't expect Auburn to be super competitive this year. Certainly not on the level of Georgia.

And they got Kentucky after that. Maybe Tennessee, but that's really late in the year. So, yeah, it could be a year where, you know, the postseason starts for Georgia or really the regular season excuse me starts come December like it has the past couple years. And like you said, I like what Shane Beamer is doing at South Carolina, right?

Mark Stoops, a good coach who frees now back in the SEC, but until November 18th, I know Lane Kiffin could always put up a ton of points. But until you play Tennessee and we'll see if Joe Milton can really put it all together, there's not a game on that schedule that that even intimidates if you're Georgia. Yeah, it's unfortunate because it's not the SEC that I grew up watching with, you know, Georgia and Tennessee and Florida with Fulmer and Spurrier and Mark Rick all duking it out for the East.

That's just not what it is right now. I mean, Florida is projected they're over under in Vegas for win total this year is five and a half. I mean, there's a legitimate chance that the Florida Gators in year two under Bill Napier might not make a bowl game.

I got a tough schedule. So it's not Georgia's fault. Georgia has to just play the teams that you know that are that are on their schedule. It's it's really a hopefully Tennessee and Joe Milton and and those guys up there can can have a good year I think because that's that's really the only one that I kind of point to right now that maybe late in the year could give Georgia run Hudson Mason here with us. I did see that coach smart earlier today said Carson Beck is the leader for the QB one title right now. What are your expectations assuming he is starting this year for Georgia for Carson Beck?

It should be him. He has been there for several years. I admire Carson back a lot. I think his journey and his path to becoming the starter was pretty similar to mine a guy that had the weight and in back up a stud for a couple years and in the era of hey if you don't play right now guys hit the portal and they leave. That's not one Carson Beck did and he hung around and you know he should be the starting quarterback for Georgia unless he just has a terrible camp. So he's a former four star recruit out of Jacksonville Florida and had a bunch of offers and has really developed great as a pocket passer. He's not as mobile as Stetson Bennett but I think when you when you just talk about the intangibles the size the arm strength all those things that you talk about what it takes at the next level I mean he's got it all he's totally different body build and really totally different quarterback than Stetson and I think that'll probably be the biggest maybe change for Kirby Smart and new offensive coordinator Mike Bobo is you got a guy in Stetson last year that was very underrated as an athlete I mean he could extend plays get positive yards on a dead play Carson's more of a pocket quarterback got a big arm but he's got a really high ceiling and he's going to have a really talented room around him I think this is going to be Georgia's most talented receiver room they added some guys in the portal from Missouri and Mississippi State and then they've already got a couple studs that they're bringing back including an all-American tight end and lad McConkie at receiver as well so he's going to have a lot of a lot of weapons to disperse the ball to. Talk right now to Hudson Mason let's talk a little bit about LSU with Brian Kelly. A year ago everyone who is clowning him and deservedly so with the whole accent and the cringe-worthy recruiting videos but he had a monster year one get into the SEC title game where he loses to your Bulldogs.

Year two now for Brian Kelly at LSU seems like people are singing a different tune this year. It really is and I think it proves Zach that winning cures everything don't ever forget that in sports. Winning cures everything and what I mean by that is you know this time last year going into mid-July and SEC media days everybody was kind of making fun of him about man is this going to be a good fit and him talking about me and my family and he got this northeastern midwestern guy coming down to the deep south and everybody was wondering about the fit and here we are a year later and nobody that narrative is completely gone and that's because of the year that they had last year beating Alabama getting to the SEC championship game and there's a ton of hype and I think rightfully so.

I think they're going to be the pick from the media to win the west and they're going to be my pick. They got the best offensive player in the conference and Jayden Daniels that quarterback. They got the best defensive player in the conference and Harold Perkins maybe the best defensive player in the country at the end of the year.

They got one of the best receivers in the country so and I thought it was interesting. Let's see Monday it was LSU's day and at SEC media days and you know Brian Kelly said that they are close to cutting the gap between their roster and Georgia's roster. He did not say Alabama. He said Georgia and I think that caught a lot of people by surprise because I think there's a lot of people that are wondering especially with some of the question marks regarding Alabama coming in this year at quarterback uh is LSU tracking down Alabama? Well I know what you just said about LSU Hudson Mason but what is your view of Alabama like even if they don't end up winning the SEC west once again which they didn't last year how far do they fall off? Well I don't think there's any any disputing.

I think there's a couple different there's two different ways to answer that. I don't think there's any disputing the legacy of Nick Saban. He's the greatest of all time. Well let me just interrupt you for a second and I'll say it what Paul Feinbaum said the other day on ESPN was just disgraceful how he's talking about the legacy getting impacted. Nick Saban could not win a game this year and you know what if Paul was on the show he'd probably hang up with me Hudson because because I'll tell you this I don't care if Nick Saban doesn't win a game this year he's one of the greatest coaches not the greatest coach of all time.

That was just stupid television the other day. Yeah I mean look it's not going to change at all whether uh you know he's he's the greatest of all time or not maybe uh you know I think what it does is does it just I think we already think or let me speak for myself I already think and I know a lot of people share this thought that Georgia has already passed Alabama as the new supremacy and um and the top of college football and winning back-to-back national titles supports that. There's a lot of people that are wondering if LSU is right behind Georgia with the talent the way they've recruited beating Alabama last year and a lot of that has to do with some of the question marks uh regarding Alabama uh coming into a year.

They have typically always known who their next quarterback is going to be in line and I'll tell you right now I don't think anybody in Tuscaloosa heading into training camp knows who their starting quarterback is going to be to begin the year. So if the way that you're saying that in the SEC right now and I agree I probably agreed to enter in this season and that's not to discredit Alabama because it's just the uncertainty at their quarterback position that Georgia's one and LSU is two. When you look at the entire landscape of college football how many teams you consider after Georgia maybe being in front of LSU? I would put I would put Michigan I think this is the most talented team that Jim Harbaugh has ever had. Ohio State obviously is going to be in that mix but Ohio State has got a you know question mark at quarterback as well so does Clemson coming in this year. I think that's what's interesting about a couple of these teams Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson they're all breaking in new quarterbacks you know Georgia's breaking in the new quarterback and a new offensive coordinator so and so is Clemson and so you can you can pretty much assure yourself that of those three teams that I just mentioned right there whoever's quarterback plays the best this year is going to have probably be the team that's standing as one of the four teams if not the national champion at the end of year that's just typically how how football works. And the best quarterback in college football right now is Caleb Williams but I can't put USC there maybe USC makes the college football playoff but their defense has to be able to make a stop before we could even consider part of them in that conversation. Yeah I would agree with you I mean I think what we saw last year at the end of the year them collapsing in the PAC-12 championship game and and losing the two lane I think a lot of the questions reside on the defensive side of the ball and a ton of optimism about them on the offensive side but it'll be interesting to see you know they'll be the favorite in the PAC-12 if they can you know finish the year like they're supposed to. Let's get to A&M so Jimbo Fisher what a putz he was the other day he talks to to one outlet and says that it's going to be Bobby Petrino calling the plays and then when he addresses a bunch of reporters didn't even want to say that Jimbo to me is someone that is so easy to root against and he should be on the hot seat I know it comes down to that contract and if they're going to want to pay it but they got a whole lot of talent at A&M and I just don't believe in Jimbo Fisher how about yourself? Yeah I think Jimbo has and I've been covering Jimbo for a long time has had one of his games he may be more so than any other coach has mastered dancing around a question more so than any other maybe public figure that I've ever met including a politician you know he I don't I do not understand for the life of me why he will not come out and publicly address and just give a direct answer about Bobby Petrino's um status with the team is he who is calling plays I mean you know and to me what this is is this is Jimbo Fisher trying to control the narrative and what he's doing here is because let's remember who they play week one is New Mexico it's not scheme like he claims it is you know they could they could pick their score against New Mexico for crying out loud so it really has nothing to do about withholding scheme advantages or hey what system are we going to do that that's hogwash what it is is it's about controlling the narrative and if things don't go well to start the year Jimbo Fisher could always say well hey Bobby Petrino was the offensive coordinator you know or Bobby Petrino wasn't the offensive coordinator or vice versa if things are going well with Bobby Petrino calling the place he could look really good by saying see I told you this is why I brought Bobby in and I gave him play calling so it's all about just controlling the narrative keeping the cards close to his vest and you know I think about halfway through the year maybe in the first couple games whether things are going well or not you'll finally hear him come out and say hey no I've been calling plays or Bobby's been calling plays depending on how it's going it's just a lot of confusion really with him and and I don't get any of it I understand what you're saying Hudson Mason here with us for a few more moments so we've gone through Georgia Alabama LSU we've discussed Tennessee and A&M who else jumps out to you is there a team in the SEC that maybe isn't getting enough attention that maybe we should start paying a little bit more attention to you I think you know those three teams are you know the three teams that I think are probably a part of the seven to eight teams a part of the conversation to make the college football playoff you know if I had to throw another team in there I think Tennessee's an interesting team just given the fact of what they did last year under Josh Hypo and the fact that Joe Milton is quote a new quarterback from Hendon Hooker but most people forget that Joe Milton was the original starter for Tennessee when Josh Hypo got hired and yeah you know his his experience last year in the orange bowl beating Clemson and playing really well so yeah he's a new quarterback I guess because he's not your starter from last year but he's not exactly a a inexperienced quarterback and I think that's what will give Tennessee a great shot at maybe uh sitting there at the end of the year pushing Georgia or maybe having a shot as a uh a dark horse to the playoff you know it also surprised me that Spencer Sanders elected to go to Ole Miss when he's not even guaranteed to be the starting quarterback after being in a pretty solid situation at Oklahoma State with Gundy whereas you have now Jackson Dart and Spencer Sanders competing for that Ole Miss job yeah it's it's wild it's a day and age of the portal and you know you I've quit trying to figure out why guys transfer and and uh you know some guys seem to be in good situations like he was at Oklahoma State and then they end up leaving and so it's uh it's certainly the era of mobility and college football well I won't hold you to it but last thing I'll ask you right now if you had to give me your four teams to make the college football playoff who would they be you know I would put Georgia in there obviously I would put Michigan in there as I said I think this is hardball's best team um you know the other two teams to me are or could be a combination of Alabama and LSU I think LSU wins the west so I'll throw LSU in there and then really I mean the fourth one you're kind of you put me on the spot here I've given as much thought yet um I'll uh I'll uh I'll put Ohio State in there right it wouldn't be crazy if we if we have it all SEC all Big Ten college football playoff because I don't really look at a team in the Big 12 that's going to be there and in the Pac-12 like I'm more optimistic on Washington than others but you know how this works the Pac-12 just beats up on each other each and every year yeah there's no doubt I think Washington as you mentioned Michael Pinnix Jr is a really good team an interesting team but I just don't have much faith in the Pac-12 right now being able to finish the season all right Hudson Mason good deal always appreciate the time she'll be talking to you throughout the entire season thanks Zach see you man there you go Hudson Mason joining us on the Zach Gelb show on CBS Sports Radio 4 a little college football fix we'll take a break we'll come on back there's a new top 10 quarterback list I'll give you my reaction to that next you're listening to the Zach Gelb show I was reading from Chad Finn in the Boston Globe hickey that ESPN's potential top broadcasting team for NBA games this season is going to be Mike Breen Doc Rivers and Doris Burke so we know Van Gundy is out because of the ESPN layoffs I don't know what the heck has happened to Mark Jackson but now you're going to have Breen Rivers and Burke and there's been some other conflicting reports this is just one reporter um I know Doc Rivers called games for years before going to coaching and it makes sense and you know Mark Jackson is is solid in the booth you know fine in the booth but I thought the dynamic of having Van Gundy up against Mark Jackson and them kind of disagree and go after each other and have fun really makes that you take one out of the equation you know do I need Mark Jackson in that booth no and Doris Burke is is well respected and I love Breen that booth it it kind of seems and I know right you got to make cuts and things like that and you pay other people ESPN should have just kept this booth together it should be Mike Breen Van Gundy and Mark Jackson as long as they wanted to do this I know that's not how this works and that's part of this business it's not as if Van Gundy needs the money anymore but to then make the booth Breen Rivers and Burke I'm not saying that's a bad booth whatsoever and I'm not saying the old booth was the greatest booth of all time but if you ask me booth A or booth B and booth A is Breen Van Gundy Mark Jackson and then booth B is Breen Rivers and Burke I'd rather booth A if you ask me ESPN I think is realizing kind of what I mean to tie the biggest topic of the day today into this my no teams are paying NFI running backs I think ESPN and other networks are going to realize people are going to watch the games for the games not for the announcers I get announcers are annoying and I was just watching sunday night baseball on ESPN this past sunday it is brutal it's brutal but with that said was I watching the game I was so they're not no booth is bad enough to where you're not going to watch a game sure but I think it's different because you look at the four major sports like ESPN where Shusen's really good at hockey he should be doing all their games he's not even a number one broadcaster how many people and this come from a hockey guy are going to complain during the regular season major league baseball how many people are watching intently in a regional sport sunday night baseball in the regular season now you can make the same case for the NBA but come postseason time NBA and NFL are the kings and the four American major sports and this booth will be fine but it's completely different than let's say the NFL a few years ago when they put out that monday night football booth of Joe Tessitore and Jason Witten and Booger McFarland that was just a joke but you're not wrong people still ended up watching the games and look how much money ESPN did invest in Joe Buck and Troy Aikman to make all those headaches go away they invest in their announcing booths but when you invest so much money in top talent like Stephen A. Smith and Scott Van Pelt and guys like Pat McAfee is coming over then you pay Aikman and Buck you're gonna have to cut some corners in some other spots and that's what they did speaking of which now I have no idea what Doc Rivers is looking for salary wise if he wants to even do broadcasting in general but they cut Van Gundy right because of his salary I mean I don't think Doc Rivers is coming on a discount he's not going to get with Van Gundy Van Gundy was there for years so that price just keeps on growing exponentially still I mean you're still dishing out a pretty penny to get a former head coach and an NBA champion in your booth for now I mean is it going to be the equal I guess probably not but it's also not going to be you're not paying pennies on the dollar to Doc Rivers come in here and do the same job Jeff Van Gundy was sure but also what leverage does Doc Rivers really have Doc Rivers didn't get a coaching job this year he still wants to be around basketball so he's going to come in I would say yeah let's still get paid you know we'll still take we would still take Doc Rivers salary but it's gonna I would imagine be significantly less than than what Jeff Van Gundy was making anyway uh was this an ESPN list that you had here for these top 10 quarterbacks Hickser yes and no ESPN conducted the poll but the list was made up of various coaches players scouts execs and these are top 10 quarterbacks to rank the top 10 quarterbacks in the NFL and this is the aggregate this is the total you know uh average out rankings you're ready for number one it's going to shock you let me guess let me guess it is Kenny Pickett Mac Jones Anthony Richardson how about that the hype is real number one no surprise to anyone Patrick Mahomes let's hear the outrage okay so in my top 10 lists my number one QB hold your breath is Patrick Mahomes Patrick Mahomes so you are just as smart as NFL coach and executive good to know one for one number two players execs coaches scouts ranked Joe Burrow second best quarterback in the NFL two for two I don't even think that's a debate I have Mahomes and Burrow who do you have for number three so that means it's not going to be Josh Allen because I think Josh Allen is the answer that most people would say I did have Josh Allen at number three scouts execs coaches players would agree they have Josh Allen at number three good job Hickey playing a little poker and trying to fool me there because I think it's you know it's not a slam dunk the first two are I would still say most people believe Josh Allen's the third best quarterback in the league but the way you set that up got me thinking maybe it's someone else all right and doing my job so we are three for three again I think you're right most people would have that list in that order for top three this is where it does get interesting four and five of the top 10 number four voted on by again NFL coaches execs player scouts Aaron Rodgers who do you have I have Rodgers fifth I have Jalen Hurts with what he did last year in at number four but I can't kill them if they want to put Aaron Rodgers in at four but I personally have my top five Mahomes Burrow Josh Allen Jalen Hurts and Aaron Rodgers so that makes me ask you this if they have Rodgers at four who do they have at five it would be Justin Herbert of the Chargers okay I'm a big fan of Justin Herbert but and Justin Herbert has had three really good years in the NFL he he hasn't had the postseason success yet and had an embarrassing choke last year Jalen Hurts has been the starting quarterback in Philadelphia for two years has made the playoffs twice lost the first time to Tampa Bay and then the second year he goes out there he wins two playoff games and has a team in a super bowl where he outplayed the great Patrick Mahomes so they put Justin Herbert five like you could argue it but if you're not going to put Hurts four which I would have I would then have put Jalen Hurts in at five so we have a disagreement two disagreements where I go Mahomes Burrow Allen Hurts and Rodgers those are my first five who do they then have six the guy you have a number four Jalen Hurts is who most NFL personnel put at number six okay here's who I have at six and I think it's splitting hairs and I just give him the nod because year one was a waste for him because of a bad coach and he just beat this guy in the playoffs I just narrowly put Trevor Lawrence ahead of Justin Herbert so I have Trevor Lawrence six and then I have Justin Herbert seven so who do they so reset their first six and then give me their seven again this is a compilation of NFL scouts players coaches and executives putting this list together number one Patrick Mahomes two Joe Burrow three is Josh Allen four Aaron Rodgers five Justin Herbert six Jalen Hurts number seven Lamar Jackson okay so not far off from my list and just the injuries the last two years is what knocks him down a bit I put Lamar Jackson at eight number eight on this list Trevor Lawrence okay so we have the same eight quarterbacks it's not as if there's a name on that list that I don't have it's just a different order my eight and I don't think it's disputable here these have to be the eight best quarterbacks in football and whatever order you want you know and reason Mahomes Burrow Allen Hurts Rodgers Lawrence Herbert Lamar are my eight now here's where it gets interesting nine and ten because I think you could go many different directions for nine and ten and a lot of it is hoping someone bounces back hoping someone who hasn't been healthy gets back into a good form from a health standpoint maybe you have someone that is young that breaks out this year for the ninth and tenth spot as great as the list is one through eight on either side there's a lot of nose holding here where you kind of pick someone for ninth and tenth and you don't really love the answers so let's see your reaction number nine according to again let me give you should I give you my ninth before you reveal their nine sure you go first my ninth and I hold my nose doing so because Hot Take Kiki supports this guy and we all know nine times out of ten when Hot Take Kiki supports someone like we've seen a year ago their person ends up having a horrible season and their team ends up having a horrible season I end up going number nine from the Denver Broncos let him cook Russell Wilson holding my nose you're surprised by that I'm very surprised I wouldn't even put Russell Wilson right now in the top ten and going into this year and you have them going back to the playoffs this year and they even have honorable mentions he's not even in the honorable mention category Russell Wilson here's why I put Russell Wilson at nine do I think he was as bad as the way that he played last year no will he ever go back to the level that he played in an elite way in Seattle I don't know I do think though Russ could have a good season individually this year I'm just not really believing in a lot of that offensive side of the ball but that defense is is going to be pretty good and you have a competent coach now in Sean Payton I as I said you could tell me in reason for the most part whoever you want for nine and ten and I think everyone's holding their nose and it's not a clear-cut answer we're the first eight are clear-cut the NFL personnel according to this list conducted by ESPN they have Dak Prescott ninth best quarterback in the NFL one exec says quote he's accurate he can extend and make plays to the other team he's elite in his decision making end quote okay uh Dak is a good quarterback not a great quarterback and Dak is someone that could win you a lot of games he's had injury problems in two of the last three seasons but come playoff time in a big game I'm not talking about a wildcard round up against the 89 team I don't care who the quarterback is on the other side I do not trust Dak Prescott number 10 do you want the list or do you want to give yours first I'll give you my 10th okay and it's someone that I don't believe in a situation this year he's a good quarterback and I don't know where that shoulder is going to be but it's Matthew Stafford that's my 10th so far we have two agreements or three agreements excuse me in terms of your list and ESPN's list about NFL personnel it was the top three no coincidence Mahomes Burrow and Allen is now a fourth they also have Stafford at number 10 who are their honorable mentions just wondering they have five honorable mentions I'm not sure the only thing is I don't think it's in order but I can't exactly say that sure there are five quarterbacks and you said it's not Russell Wilson not Russell Wilson so honorable mention if I had to guess honorable mentions Deshaun Watson has to be an honorable man yes sir he's top of the list I'm not sure that's 11th but he's honorable mention four more four more and it's not Russell Wilson not Russell Wilson who one is in the news a lot Kirk Cousins Kirk Cousins Jared Goff Jared Goff two more Derek Carr Derek Carr one more Geno Smith honorable mention not Geno Smith so it's not Geno Smith and I don't think it's Kyler Murray it is not Kyler Murray so one more here AFC or NFC AFC oh it's an AFC quarterback AFC quarterback his year did not finish in the most promising way to a tongue of Iloa fifth and final honorable mention and no Russell Wilson in the top 15 going into 2023 hard to argue that okay but from eight to 15 there's a lot of debating one badge year and everyone's ready to say that Russ is in a top 15 quarterback in the NFL come on I know I slammed the guy last year but that's ridiculous do you not think he's a top 15 quarterback in the NFL going to this year yeah I have no problem with that so how are you then picking this team to go to the playoffs if you don't well I think he's gonna bounce back but this is just going like off of last year going to this year I can't say right now going into this year based on how he played last year he deserves the benefit of the doubt I think Sean Payne's gonna come in and they're gonna be a playoff team but this is not projecting 2023 stats this is just going right now current day 2023 how do these quarterbacks rank going to the season you know what that tells me you're you're second guessing your Broncos prediction of them making the playoffs you won't admit that but the fact that you don't put Russ in the top 15 you could deny it that voice got very high there that's not moving you're getting skeptical you can click this audio when we do our picks in what probably six weeks from now whenever that is I guarantee you Broncos are in their firm Russell Wilson I said this actually when I filled in for you I'll say it right now top five MVP voting big year I'm in on Russ last year you said they're gonna win the division they're gonna win the conference they're gonna win the Super Bowl and if Daniel Hackett's gonna be a top three coach in the sport and top three coach of the year yeah top three coach for the year for the year for the year and now all the sudden since you since you guaranteed all that stuff is gonna happen this year just because you guaranteed this year we're supposed to buy stock with you on this one well I'm just I'm just telling you what I believe I'm going back I'm doubling down not on the Broncos per se but I'm doubling down more on Sean Payton okay folks that is the Zach Gelb show on CBS Sports Radio you're listening to the Zach Gelb show alrighty Zach Gelb show CBS Sports Radio so hot take kicky I gotta run something by you because I'm starting to see something on social media that's become a trend long time talk show host Joe Benigno who's a Jets superfan he played golf the other day with Robert Sala now long time WFAN talk show host and now current FS1 morning host Craig Cardin also played golf on a different day with Robert Sala so this is Robert Sala reaching out or someone from the Jets reaching out to make sure that the football coach plays golf with members of the media should that be a cause for concern for Jets fans if you're trying to rub elbows with members in the media hoping that they'll then start to say some good things about you I know he's in the hot seat this year a lot of big expectations is that him maybe showing that the confidence isn't as strong as what the Jets are portraying if you're trying to suck up the members of the media and play golf with them which is perceived to be a nice gesture but I at least perceive it just to be as okay I'm not saying that he's not confident but it comes off as you may think you may need those media members at some point this year I really hope hope that that is not the case that he is trying to like I said plant the seed early or just in case if bleep it's the fan and they're four and six and he goes hey remember when we play golf let's just please you know don't kill me too much Adobe call for my job because yes if that's his ultimate goal or deep down he knows oh I'm just gonna try to be a nice guy but deep down he knows this is maybe setting the stage for November that's gonna be a little rough and maybe I buy myself a little goodwill the Jets season is already over before it starts so I quickly became hot take Gelb where your hot take Hickey where I was thinking about if I could play golf with three active NFL coaches who would they be so this is very hot take like this is just doing a quick minute uh kind of glance at all 32 coaches of the NFL and the list that I put together I think it is the perfect list here and I'm curious where our lists compare and contrast so who would your three people be it's funny I think my list is perfect all right I got two in the AFC East your guy Bill Belichick Mike McDaniel both would crack me up I want to see Bill Belichick I want to hear him curse I want to hear him say something that's not just we're on to Cincinnati or anything like that I think he would let the hair down a little bit with golf Mike McDaniel is an absolute character am I a third or I guess in this case fourth Andy Reid that guy just seems like a good time to be around okay so we agree on one name one name who do you think the one name is that I put in my threesome there of people that I want to be a part of the golfing foursome here Andy Reid yep and for one reason Andy Reid is getting either a hot dog or a hamburger at the turn and I think that's a very important component of having someone in that foursome for golf that you know is going to be the guy that is there just for the fun times just for the food and you're going to make sure that you're well fed at the turn I think that's very important Belichick would not talk to you because Belichick only opens up to people that he trusts hickey he would not say a single word to you and Mike McDaniel we differ on this the guy's a good football coach he creeps me out I think he would just talk too much there so I don't want Belichick or McDaniel can you guess my other two coaches here Dan Campbell Dan Campbell's one of them and as he gave you the reason for Andy Reid Brandy Reid it's just getting a hot dog at it at the turn or a cheeseburger at a turn for Dan Campbell I picked him just based off the potential golfing ability that is a large man and I would be very curious to see with how large he is how far he could strike the ball I feel like that guy could bomb right down the fairway 300 yards if he just makes good contact on the swing so who would be the last person and I'll give you a hint here I went food for one with Reid I went striking the ball two with Dan Campbell this was actually the guy that I put first up because you need someone that's going to have great stories and someone that maybe is going to get a little inspirational in your golf round and that was my first choice actually any idea who that would be Mike Tomlin yep Mike Tomlin would have great stories and if you faced any sort of a tough time which I do all the time on the golf course you know that Mike Tom will have a little pick-me-up kind of speech so my ideal golfing uh threesome if you include me to make it a foursome Mike Tomlin Andy Reid Dan Campbell out of active NFL coaches so that's the way that I go 8 5 5 2 1 2 for CBS 8 5 5 2 1 2 42 27 coming up in about 10 minutes or so we will do the teams that are potentially getting disrespected in the NFL entering this season and look who's on the line making his triumphant return to the Zach Gilb show on CBS Sports Radio all last year was telling us how the Minnesota Vikings are this great team and I said Scott in California they're a good team they're having a really special season but come playoff time expect this to get ugly here he is Scott in California Scott what's happening Zach I appreciate the intro I appreciate it's really impressive and that you actually remember me but yeah I am an ardent Viking fan I mean uh just listening to earlier you're putting Kirk Cousins on a list of positivity which is really cool I would like you not to do that anymore we do better when you guys keep talking negative but um then earlier it was uh are the Vikings going to regress I just want to ask you what regressing from 13 and 4 is is that you know 11 and uh 6 or uh I'm not sure but we did make a lot of changes I really don't know what they're doing we lost Calvin Thielen Eric Hendricks I'm really not sure what they're doing um but um I will still back them and I you know uh Justin like sometimes I think it's good to get you know Justin Jefferson's gonna he's gonna need some dollars really soon and uh but I just want to ask you who's thrown that ball to him for the last two years oh not not not the ball that's received in his hands doesn't come from anybody else than Kirk Cousins uh and my last question is if you uh had a chance to if you the Netflix quarterbacks um topic they got Mariota Mahal and um Cousins on that yes so Scott I appreciate the phone call and thanks so much for connecting once again Scott in California is going to be optimistic even though he didn't sound that optimistic on the Vikings but he's going to pick the Vikings to answer your question I have not watched the Netflix documentary yet I want to watch it I just have to find a way to since I used to use someone else's Netflix account now I'm gonna have to pay the price the small price to get Netflix which I'll do at some point this week but I did see that season two is getting renewed now it's not going to be the same three quarterbacks but I would imagine that Kirk Cousins comes off pretty well in that documentary Hickey you've watched a little bit of it right and I think Kirk Cousins is a likable guy I know he's polarizing in terms of what people think on the field I think he's a good quarterback just not a great quarterback and he's not going to win a Super Bowl in the NFL and if Scott's trying to tell me that he made Justin Jefferson just stop it uh you know Kirk Cousins needs Justin Jefferson more than Justin Jefferson needs Kirk Cousins and if you don't believe that uh just go ask Justin Jefferson who his top five quarterbacks are in the NFL but I would imagine that so far Kirk Cousins is portrayed well Mahal is going to be portrayed well and then I would imagine in this buildup how many episodes is it it's like three or four they just wait for Mariota to quit on the team and see how that goes down eight episodes in total oh wow that many um yes oh yeah well they give you a detailed look into almost every game for the most part you get some background it's it's really well done very detailed but Kirk yeah Kirk's very likable I mean he's himself it's not like people have hated Kirk Cousins because of who he is off the field no just a normal down to earth basically dad-like figure happens to be pretty good NFL quarterback um and he just comes off pretty pretty normal which is actually kind of funny so Mike Florio just put out an article and he said if we're following the same formula for season two of this with a top tier quarterback a second tier quarterback and then someone that is a veteran at a crossroads he gave his prediction here on who he would pick as those three quarterbacks using that guideline one was Josh Allen which I think there's a lot of intrigue with Josh Allen this year and he's one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL then the second one that he did give for middle of the road or for the second tier quarterback was Dak Prescott which makes a ton of sense always drama with the Cowboys and Dak is a second tier quarterback in the NFL and then three a veteran at a crossroads Derek Carr I don't love Derek Carr just because he gets too dramatic and cries a lot but Derek Carr would be better than Mariota no doubt about that
