Yo yo, hour number three of our radio program live from Kansas City as we get you set for the NFL Draft. It is the Zach Gelb show coast to coast on CBS Sports Radio coming up 20 minutes from now. A guy who I think is the best wide receiver in this draft class, Jackson Smith and Jigba, will join us and in an hour 20 from now, former Colorado and also now former Oregon Duck, Christian Gonzalez is going to join us as well.

He's projected to go in the top 10 of this NFL Draft and may even be the first corner off the board. So a whole lot to do today as we have two more hours today for our draft preview show. Then tomorrow, I am solo I believe from 6 to 8 p.m. Eastern and then starting at 8 p.m. Eastern live from the draft, it's me, it's JR and it's Andrew Perloff all the way until the conclusion of the first round and then on Friday we will have a recap round one preview react to rounds two and three show from 6 to 10 p.m. Eastern as it will be JR and yours truly. But first up, we got five questions, we got five answers. We're gonna do this on a Wednesday, we usually do it on a Friday, but this week is all scrambled all over the place with us being in Kansas City and let's be real, by Friday I don't even know I'm gonna be able to make the Friday show hickey because we're gonna be eating so much barbecue in the next 48 hours, I may need a forklift to get me out of the hotel to get me to the draft on Friday.

So let's see if that's in the budget. I know our boss David Maranick is listening because he heard the segment where I asked hickey if I'd be invited to his wedding based off the Draymond Green sound in regards to Harrison Barnes not inviting Draymond Green to his wedding because he's annoyed and you know thinking and blaming Draymond Green for bringing in KD, that's the reason why Harrison Barnes is no longer on the Golden State Warriors. So I asked hickey if he would invite me to his wedding and then all of a sudden we get a text from our boss David Maranick who parachuted into the conversation and just heard you know I'm gonna get invited to your wedding to hickey and the next thing you know he's like did I miss you got engaged? Imagine if David just was listening to that three minutes of the segment and then sent out one of those company-wide emails. We like to congratulate Ryan Hickey on his engagement. That would have been funny.

Thank you for texting me David because that would have had a I would have had a lot of explaining to do a lot of not fires to put out but it would have been um interesting so thank you for saving saving me that. Now if that announcement ever does come do you think David would say Ryan Hickey? Do you think he would call you by your other nicknames Hot Take Hickey or Trace? I would say he calls me Trace T-R-E-S.

I would say he would probably write in a company-wide email Trace got engaged is my I don't think so because I think people like no offense I love Bill Ryder and Bill does a great job here on CBS Sports Radio but when you were Bill's kind of producer you guys rotated in and out so many different bodies I don't think the name Trace is still remembered anymore at CBS Sports Radio like outside of like Stu and also probably I would say Bill Ryder and me. And David David's the one who says it the most. David too sure I think now everyone calls you Hot Take Hickey not just locally but also nationally because I unprovoked Carrington Harrison uh Carrington I can never say his last name right Carrington Harrison right?

C-dot. Yeah I always want to call him Carrington Harrington I don't know why but Carrington Harrison just comes in he's like hey Hot Take Hickey how you doing? There's a lot of people now calling you Hot Take Hickey or it may be sent down in the company email Ryan Hickey comma the bad boy of radio with you belching like a pig on the air uh walking out of the rose ball just cursing and then also cursing literally on the air as well. I would say bad boy radio.

Quite a reputation. Especially some people that I don't normally interact with see that I would like to have that perception be bad boy radio compared to Hot Take Hickey or Trace. You are Hot Take Hickey. So if I'd prefer what my nickname would be in a company email about an engagement that's not happened yet and not gonna happen for a while in this imaginary world we're living in.

Hex Hickey? Yes I would love no not that bad boy radio has gotten engaged he has settled down that's what I would go with. Okay I would say that probably he would write Ryan Hickey got engaged and that would be it. David if you're still listening I hope you write one day Ryan air quotes Hot Take Hickey that's what I would hope or just do the air quotes Hot Take and then you're last name Hickey. The Howard Stern of Terrestrial Radio. No one has ever confused you with Howard Stern I can guarantee you that.

Alright five questions five answers. Connor Green let's get the intro we'll do a little onsides offsides NFL draft edition. Zach's taking on the most polarizing issues in sports which side of the line of scrimmage will he end up on? Offside defense number 69.

It's onsides offsides with Zach Gelb on CBS Sports Radio. We have reached the portion of the show where Hickey even a man like me who's full of energy is starting to hit a wall when you don't go to bed until 1 30 a.m eastern last night because that's something I normally go to bed and then I had to get up at 5 30 a.m to go make the flight. I'm getting tired so I'm standing up for the rest of the show.

I need to stretch my legs. Alright I will try to provide some energy then and let's start this NFL draft edition of onsides offsides with this. CJ Stroud has been a man talked about a lot this last week or so because his stock could be potentially or possibly not dropping depending on who you talk to and what teams you look at. There's Will Levis right now skyrocketing up the betting odds. Anthony Richardson's been a hot name as well.

You look at the Texans. I could use some coffee with mayo right now. That would really wake me up.

That would be disgusting. You want to slap me in the face actually right now? Sure sure.

That's a free invitation absolutely. Come on slap me in the face. We will not do that. Come on I'll give you one free slap in the face.

I am not slapping anyone in the face. Gotcha. Instead I'll just ask you the question about CJ Stroud's draft stock onsides or offsides. CJ Stroud will be the second quarterback taken off the board. That's offside.

Offside. I think he should be but there's been a lot of smoke here and where there's smoke there is a fire. I do think that he's not going to be the second quarterback off the board. It's Young's gonna go one. It will either be Will Levis or Anthony Richardson too. It should be Stroud but there's just so much negativity about Stroud. Maybe there's some people trying to get him fall a little bit so they could go trade up and get him like in that three spot or something and now they worked with the Texans moving off him but I'm starting to think that he's not going to be the second quarterback taken in this draft.

By the way we have an update from David Mayernik. He just texted me. As much as I love hot take kicky and think it's a great nickname I might have to go with the bad boy of radio. I love that. That's the A by the way who called you the bad boy. The bosses are talking and I listen and I think what the bosses say go.

I love that we have a text from our boss saying he loves the hot take kicky nickname. That's great. Well I'm gonna ignore that that first part that's for sure. You should embrace it.

Everyone people tweet you all the time and interact with you all the time. In negative fashion. The moment you have a wrong prediction or you so boldly claim something's gonna happen and then instantly it doesn't. People love poking out when you're wrong. Point it out. They take too much they take too much joy in it that's for sure.

All right go ahead. All right so we just talked about CJ Stroud and his stock possibly dropping. Now teams that could be taking advantage of that could be the Texans at pick number two. Cardinals at pick number three who presumably right now are looking to trade out of those spots because they are not or presumably not going to be taking a quarterback. So on sides or off sides the Texans and Cardinals will make their picks at two and three respectively and not trade out.

I gotta think there's gonna be a trade with one of those teams. I don't know if you agree with this I feel like the Texans have to take someone at two. I don't like if you're gonna pass up on a quarterback I think you have to go take someone like a Will Anderson I don't think it will be Jalen Carter going that high or a Tyree Wilson. You can't go through this scouting process and get your entire fan base thinking you're gonna take a quarterback and then go oh yeah we're not gonna take a quarterback and then trade back. The Texans almost have to pick a player here and there has to be a good justification not that we just got more capital into why they didn't take a quarterback at two.

Especially when you have picked 12 there that you can move around possibly or see how things shake up I'm with it. I would take a position player the best player available on their board and number two so you're saying the Texans and Cardinals are going or no not gonna say excuse me all right let's talk about it. I didn't answer the question yet oh I just answered it for the Texans. I am so I apologize I'm jumping the gun here. I think the Texans will make their pick what did you have a Jack and Coke on the way here?

I was trying to provide too much energy that's my problem. I think the Texans will make their pick. I feel like the Cardinals will trade. Now if Will Anderson's still there I think it's tough for the Cardinals to pass up and Will Anderson but I think the Cardinals will trade so the Texans and Cardinals will make their picks at two and three. I will bet that the Cardinals trade the picks I will go offside. Hickey trying to jump the gun here.

My apologies I will wait my turn. Bijan Robinson maybe the most fun non-quarterback player wise in this draft. If you're listening Howie Roseman it's hard to tell what Zach thinks you could do. You should do their pick number 10. Howie Roseman and I have a complicated relationship oh because one of my roommates years ago was related to Howie Roseman and all I would do is just bash Howie Roseman and that was one of his his relatives I think they were like second cousins or something but they knew each other they knew each other.

Was one of those second cousins that you're technically by blood but you never see him and they wouldn't be able to pick out of a lineup? It's it's one of my best friends he my one of my best friends did not like really ever meet Howie but his mother knows Howie very well and I would say some not so nice things about Howie but this happens it's like three to four years Howie Roseman is a human pinata. Chip Kelly literally moved his office and took away all of his power and then he redeemed himself by winning a Super Bowl and then he was drafting like Jalen Rager and JJ Arthaga Whiteside over DK Metcalf and Justin Jefferson and then we all stomped on Howie once again but then he redeemed himself this year but I may be back on having Howie on my S-list if he doesn't draft Bijan Robinson and that's a strong take because Howie gets the benefit of the doubt I really do like Howie Roseman he's in my good graces but he should do something obvious here. So Howie Zach is pushing to take Bijan Robinson that leads us to the question on sides or off sides forget what should happen Bijan Robinson will be drafted within the top 10 picks.

So the Eagles make so much sense just because they don't have many holes and they have a Super Bowl window that is right now. So you know how I usually yell at you when you can't separate what should happen and what will happen and it frustrates me I'm going to be a total hypocrite here and I'm just going to own it here and I'm not going to be like you when you don't own it and you're like no I think this will happen and this should happen I'll just fully admit this probably won't happen but it should happen and in the draft I'm rooting for what this year I want to see should happen Bijan Robinson will be drafted in the top 10 on sides because the Eagles are going to take him and it'd be very late to Falcon like to take him too because they have a lot of holes it doesn't really make sense for them but it does make sense for the Eagles. John Michaels in the mock draft this week took Bijan at number eight. Yeah and our boss Spike Eskin his father is a radio legend in Howard Eskin I have to find the story but I saw it going around twitter I think Howard said that at the he's so confident the Eagles won't trap Bijan Robinson that either like he'll donate an insane amount of money to charity or he'll retire if they do draft Bijan Robinson I gotta find the specifics on that.

Wow putting his possible job on the line. He's also a very old man too like I love Howard but it's not like for an hour it's not like he's 45 right now no Howard Eskin will literally work until the day he dies there's no doubt about that in my mind he's 71 unless he's at every Bijan Robinson he's at every press conference he asked the first question the dude is an absolute legend the king and he looks like the Burger King man too he does I love the hour but it looks like the Burger King man all right well he is a king so I guess you're getting Zach Gelb unfiltered today he's got something going for him I'm I'm up for way too many hours right now it's better than comparing to the Kool-Aid man got like three hours of sleep and Ronald McDonald that's a tough one and I've reached the wall here it's the witching hour of the Zach Gelb show I think of fast food places and drinks I think the Burger King king I don't really know what I do call him yeah it's probably the best comparison you can get yeah probably so good for you Howard Eskin we'll take that Howard is a stud he's a legend he wears a fur coat like around Lincoln financial field we'll also see how much Harry Rosman likes it right now maybe I'll just do it out of spite draft as he retires all right see you later Howard that's a good conspiracy theory enjoy retirement all right so quarterbacks we've talked about a lot of quarterbacks Will Levis Anthony Richardson CJ Strout all going in the first round how about Hendon Hooker whose doctor came out earlier this week and let NFL teams know Hendon Hooker is on track to be medically clear to play in a game for week number one and if you listen to this show at the Super Bowl he was on with us and he said he's the best quarterback in this draft class and he will be ready for week one now when he said that I'm like okay I believe that when I see it but so far so good and today he put out on social media him dropping back under center and going through some few passing routines so he is on the recovery on the mend back to getting on the field so with his health going in the right direction on sides or off sides Hendon Hooker will be drafted in the first round I think so because I do think bare minimum we're gonna get four quarterbacks go in the top 15 and the top 15 three in the top 10 I feel like so then when I think when you get in the later rounds someone will either jump back into the first round or we'll just take a flyer on Hendon Hooker since this is not considered like a really strong draft so I think someone will take a quarterback I will go on sides at Hendon Hooker we'll get drafted in the first round and then we'll be singing good old rocky top rocky top Tennessee do to do okay fine I was gonna let you finish the song sorry I had to it's one of those things we just gotta let it go till the end thank you thank you we'll do the the kicking and the dancing Maggie Gray actually does a good uh rocky top dance like the um I don't know you would call the dance but there's like a video the way dude in the video yes who's going nuts Maggie did that she was very good at it wow good for Maggie I didn't think I thought that was just kind of a an acquired or a rare skill she has rhythm she has rhythm a lot of people around here most we do not have rhythm speak for myself absolutely I'd agree with that so good for Maggie she brings some style to CBS Sports or maybe about like eight shots to have or need about like eight shots to have rhythm well that's also true I have rhythm when I'm drunk most people think they have rhythm when they are drunk as well that is for sure oh no I've been told great air sax player at weddings interesting I got videos big man's getting down that's an interesting had the whole dance floor going well there's a saxophone on the dance floor the saxophone lady she was playing okay and then she had a solo and I just jumped right in and started doing my air sax solo I was gonna say air trumpet air guitar obviously the big one you never hear the air sax when that makes a lot of sense now the sax well the great the wedding at the late great clarence big man clemens I was trying to take on that role in my mind from the legendary east street band okay all right there you go and it sounds like you fulfilled that at the uh at the wedding for sure it's a big burden now that I have to carry whenever I go to a wedding all my friends expect me to do this there's the air sax guy all right get ready get ready speaking of getting ready an hour or so from now kirson gonzales will hop on the show he is a tremendous corner out of oregon he's projected to go in the top 10 along with devin witherspoon it's kind of been a battle of which corner will go first some say witherspoon some say gonzales could be to the lions could be the seahawks the raiders a lot of teams in the top 10 interested in these two elite corners so I remember last year corners went early with stingley and then uh sauce gardner three four three and four so on sides or off sides kristian gonzales will be the first defensive back off the board you said he's joining us in about an hour from now yes absolutely no but actually I do think he will be the first corner taken in this draft and I'm looking at the raiders at seven could be in play and the seahawks are a funky team to me too because everyone including me thinks they're going to take jaylen card and I saw some report today that he's they're not going to take jaylen carter so who knows it wouldn't shock me the seahawks end up taking a corner though at five or maybe they trade back and get a corner later on in the first round so on sides kristian gonzales will be the first db off the board zack gilb show cbs sports radio the preeminent wide receiver in this nfl draft class and I think I usually am pretty good at calling these things a few years ago I said it was justin jefferson that's been proven to be true last year chris olave I feel good about my chances of that being right not a slam dunk but I feel good about it I do believe jackson smith and jigba is the best wide receiver in this draft class and he will join us when the zack gilb show continues in five minutes back in kansas city this is zack gilb show coast to coast on cbs sports radio now joining us here inside the png style lounge on behalf of tide is the man that I think is the best wide receiver in this draft class I'm not just saying that because he's sitting next to me I've been saying that all leading up throughout this process formerly of the Ohio state Buckeyes that of course is jackson smith and jigba jackson appreciate the time how you been been doing good zack appreciate you having me on well thanks for coming on so we all know what you did in 2021 and last year unfortunately the hamstring didn't get you on the field a lot for people that didn't see you play or forgot what you did in 2021 how do you kind of describe who jackson smith and jigba is as a football player I would just say he's a playmaker I mean you could see that in the year before in that film I think the film speaks a lot you know about who I am and how I carry myself you know definitely seeing a competitor you know a war dog when he's out there and just a reliable target you know for his quarterback and you know just try to control the things I can control get open catch the ball and you know I think I do that very well how's the hamstring doing it's great it's great I'm ready to compete I'm ready to compete I'm 100 healthy thank you thankful to god and I'm ready to go when you're not playing and when people don't see you a lot of narratives pop up and people are like we all know he's going to be an early first round pick you know maybe he's not as hurt as what it's being led on to believe when you hear all that crap out there you're laughing that right in front of me like how'd you process that I mean it was tough it was tough but you know what gave me peace was you know the people I love and the people that know me and know you know who I am you know knows that if I could anyway be out there you know I would be out there you know I mean I've thought about this season I'm trying to win a ring you know a championship at Ohio State is is greater than a lot it's great you know and I would sacrifice you know a lot for that and I did and you know just it was out of my control so unfortunately I wasn't able to play but you know the people that know me know that and I know that I would be out there so I got peace and I don't I really laugh at this stuff because it's just people who don't know me and you know build that narrative but you know that's what it comes with what type of competitor are you I mean that's a that's a good question I feel like you know in the NFL I made it to the NFL I mean going to tomorrow but you know I'm just I'm gonna I think I'm one of the top competitors in the world I mean to play this sport and you know I feel like my mindset is you know trying to be the best and be be with the elite group of receivers and you know I will I won't stop until I am so um you know I'm just you know hungry you know ready to prove prove um a lot feel like I haven't proven much so you know I just got that chip on my shoulder and ready to go I know everyone says the Ohio State but it really should just be wide receiver you because you guys just pump wide receivers into the NFL just being in that receiving room has to be super competitive oh 100 and that's what you know definitely develop you know us you know just coming in every day and us trying to be the best seeing who's the best that day and um it was great man I love that stuff that's why I really went you know being next to Gary Wilson, Chris Olave, Marvin Harrison Jr. of course, Julian Fleming you know the list goes on you know being next to those those guys definitely brought out the best in me and definitely stole a lot of stuff from those guys so you know I was blessed to be in that room. You mentioned Garrett Wilson one of your former teammates just won offensive rookie of the year I saw Matt Miller from ESPN the other day said that the Jets have done a lot of homework on you if you did get drafted by the Jets to be able to reunite with Garrett what would that mean to you? Oh I mean that would be definitely awesome playing next to G5 and Aaron Rodgers I mean you know one of the best if not the best quarterback you know in the world right now so I would definitely be pleased going up to New York and being a Jet that would be awesome but anywhere I land man I'm gonna just be super excited and ready to go.

I just don't know if you'll be available at 15. Right we'll see we'll just have to wait and see tomorrow I mean I'm excited I'm nervous you know anything can happen so yeah. What is this process like for you you've gone through all the interviews you've gone through all the tests and now we're 24 hours away as you get here ready to see your dream get accomplished just what's going through your mind? Man just trying to spend time with family and get my mind awesome stuff but you know I'm just super excited you know this is a lifelong dream you know I knew I could I knew I could get here with with all the hard work and just to see that pay off and you know get to where I want to be you know it's just an awesome experience and I'm ready for tomorrow but you know I'm ready to compete you know you know you know missing last year you know it's tough but for me to get drafted it's not my end goal you know I want to be in the league and I want to play for a lot of years and and be dominant so that's why I'm looking forward to. What have your conversations been like with the other Ohio statewide receivers that were your teammates and have just had that recent success in the NFL when you look at a guy like Chris Olavi and Garrett Wilson just off the top of my head?

Yeah I mean talking to those guys they just tell me to be myself they say don't change be yourself and be present and be ready for any given moment I mean they they kind of know you know what I'm about so I just feel like you know if I keep being myself keep working I have my head on straight that things would be just fine. Like I said it's wide receiver you this time next year we're going to be talking about Marvin Harrison Jr. we all know how great he is but you saw that each and every day what is he going to be able to do a year from now in the NFL? Man Marvin Harrison Jr. is a monster straight up just your your prototypical wide receiver you know six three and a half six four you know what I'm saying just built fast strong the best route runner I've seen at Ohio State in my times there so you know who knows I mean next year he might even look way better I mean that guy puts in a lot of work and he'll be ready I'm excited to see what he'll he'll do for Ohio State this year and in the league for sure.

You got that tag as the man and you had to go back what advice would you give to him because he has that title now as the guy and he has to go back for another year? Right I mean you know go get what you want you know last year you know we we had goals we set goals and we didn't accomplish them so I was just what I'm telling him is just go get you know what you what you're working for and you know he he's got he's got the blueprint for sure and he's got a great foundation so and he and he works hard you know better you know harder than anyone that I've seen at Ohio State so I already know there's not too much you can say to Marvin he has it. Jackson Smith and Jigba here with us we never know this time of the year what is true and then what's just being put out there to make someone look bad and what's the motive behind it when it comes to C.J. Stroud some days you see he's going to be the first pick some days you see he's going to fall outside the top 10. Who is C.J. Stroud as a quarterback and a teammate?

C.J. Stroud is a leader a competitor a person you know a teammate that you you need to have and want to have in the locker room smartest guy on the field when he's on the field you know pre-snap post-snap knows knows how to make defenses pay and sees the play before it happens so um working with him a great mind like that I mean I'm excited to see where he lands and see his progression as his career continues so I mean it was awesome playing with him you know hopefully one day I get another opportunity to play with him it was great. I know everyone that gets drafted says this time of the year I'm just excited wherever I get picked we talked about potentially playing with Garrett Wilson in New York if let's just say Stroud goes to and the Texans grab you at 12 to be able to continue to play with C.J.

Stroud would be pretty neat right? Oh man yes of course Houston Texas too that's home so uh you know that would be awesome you know if they can make that happen but like you said anywhere I go I'm going to be blessed and ready and and thankful for the opportunity. What type of football fan were you growing up as a kid? Uh I was a college football fan honestly my dad took me to a lot of A&M games took me to a lot of Texas OU games you know the Cowboys were definitely always on but you know I'm a I'm a football junkie you know I love football um watch it all the time so and love love to see how the game is growing in the right way so yeah. How'd you wind up at Ohio State?

Um lack of recruitment you know early by the Texas schools and and all the other schools down south really and Ohio State came in laid my junior year and swept me. You know how passionate the Ohio State fan is Ryan Day hasn't lost a lot of games during his time as the Buckeyes head coach but when you lose to Michigan the way that you guys lost the last two years people start to question him what do you say to Buckeye fans that aren't all all in on Ryan Day anymore? I would say relax um I mean uh you know Coach Day knows what he's doing and you know we'll get it figured out you know I have full faith um no one wants to win more than those guys in the locker room and that coaching staff so I would say you know if you're gonna be if you're a Buckeye you're a Buckeye and we're rolling so um don't miss out on the opportunity of what's coming. Away from the field and I know this is all business and every single move you do you get followed but what do you do for fun Jackson Smith and Jigba?

For fun I like to watch my brother play play baseball like I said I'm a sports junkie so you know watching him play baseball usually I'm at the crib playing some video video games I'm a movie person love food love to go out um yeah I like to hang with family and friends and maybe go on a walk or enjoy nature and stuff like that so yes sir. So a few years ago we had Justin Jefferson on and this was when I think it was four teams passed on him and he said I'm gonna make everyone pay and now we know he may be the best wide receiver in football we saw that immediate impact Jamar Chase recently had an immediate impact what do you think your immediate impact could be as a wide receiver in the NFL? I don't want to put any ceilings on what you know I could do you know next year but hopefully you know my mindset is just wherever I go just help the team win you know to reach our team goals and to to contribute to to winning right off the bat and you know I'm excited and and I'm ready for that challenge. Last thing I'll ask you before we talk about the partnership and the good work you're doing with Tide Jackson Smith and Jigba here with us at Gelb Show on CBS Sports Radio live in Kansas City I love asking this question to to prospects and guys are getting ready to hear their name called if I'm a GM and I say why should I trust one of my first round picks in Jackson Smith and Jigba what's the answer?

I would just say I'm the most competitive person in this draft honestly you know I love to compete and I've been competing my whole life and you know my mindset is to come to the league and compete and have my name up there with the most dominant receivers in the game right now I'm a team player I'm a player that you can play literally anywhere and just put the ball in my hands and I'm gonna go to work and you know I feel like you know in the right system with the right guys you know that can be very valuable and very dangerous and you know good guy off the field you know love my love the teammates you know love good energy and you know love to win most importantly. Tell me about the work you're doing today with Tide. Tide they making sure my stuff is steamed and clean you know I got to make sure I'm looking good tomorrow you know can't have any wrinkles stains none of that so we're making sure everything is taken care of right now. Tomorrow when you hear your name called and you're making that that walk across the stage just what are those emotions you think you're going to be feeling? I have no idea I have no idea it's it's hard to think about but but I'm I know I'm going to be excited I'm going to be ready but you know I've been dreaming about this for a long time and for it to be here it's it it is a little overwhelming so I'm just going to try to enjoy it with my family and just kick back relax and see who calls. Well enjoy it once again that Jackson Smith and Jigba on behalf of Tide and also inside the PNG style lounge we appreciate the time.

Appreciate you thank you. There you go Jackson Smith and Jigba joining us who I think is the best wide receiver in this NFL draft class. Hickey you heard the answers right he would love to get reunited with Garrett Wilson who he was just college teammates with last year and Garrett Wilson just won rookie of the year and also play along with Aaron Rodgers and then he is from the Texas area right and you look at CJ Stroud who some think he can still go to I saw Daniel Jeremiah just released his latest mock draft still his last mock draft has CJ Stroud going too and remember the Texans have picks at two and 12 so you could get shrouded two and then get Jackson Smith and Jigba at 12. Let me ask you this if you were Jackson Smith and Jigba because Rodgers we don't know how much longer he's gonna play two three years maybe right that's the most you could probably expect maybe it goes more than that but you're thinking a ballpark two three years would you rather go to New York right away and team up with Aaron Rodgers who you still know can be a great quarterback in this league and you get to reunite one of your former college teammates or do you want to keep it rolling with what you built with CJ Stroud I know Jackson Smith and Jigba didn't play much this year but they had a great connection the year prior to that would you rather keep it rolling and you go to a place where you can have a longer relationship where maybe two three years from now the Jets are looking for a new quarterback I would still take the Jets Garrett Wilson Aaron Rodgers route even if it's two years just because at least you have a chance in two years to get to great heights get to the playoffs and then who knows maybe we've seen crazy things happen I'm down on the Jets and get into a Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers but hey at least you have a chance compared to the Texans can we really trust the Texans to get you know back on the right track anytime soon like we're talking about two or three years before they can even compete if they had on the quarterback yeah right which is fair but also Stu can they hit on you know Tamika Ryans is the head coach who believes gonna be head coach is he going to be a great one we don't know Texans have swung and missed a lot recently can CJ Stroud play better with no talent around him I don't know big question right now there's no talent in Houston it's just a bigger risk and a bigger gamble I would take the sure thing right now if I was him and say the Jets over the Texans now let me be clear I was just asking the question I happen to agree with you and here's another reason why and you don't always think about it from a money standpoint I usually think about things from money standpoint too where do you have your better shot of getting a second contract in terms of a ridiculous second contract like CJ Stroud may end up being a bust if that's the case your receiver number is going to be impacted by that you go to the Jets even though you won't be the number one wide receiver necessarily and it's a crowded wide receiver room when you have Garrett Wilson Wilson when you would add yourself into the fold in Jackson with an jig but you have Alan Luzard there who already has the built-in relationship with Rogers McColl Hardman I think Denzel Mims is still in that roster right he's still kicking we'll see if he can do anything out of Baylor but the point is you've seen Joe Burrow right in Cincinnati have three great wide receivers in Jamar Chase T Higgins and Tyler Boyd you know that Chase and Higgins are gonna get big deals um you know you look at someone like Boyd he could be probably a one and a half two wide receiver on a lot of other teams in the NFL like you could go someplace where it's a crowded room and still get that big payday and maybe Jackson Smith and Jigba plays that role of like what T Higgins is if Garrett Wilson not that I think he's gonna be as good as Jamar Chase but you get the point for the argument so I would go in the more established it's weird to have the Jets are an established situation when they just got Rogers but I go the more established situation than just hoping rather than everything else ends up working out Zach Gilp's show CBS Sports Radio let's get the latest CBS Sports Radio update in with Cee Lo Crystal Pressy I did see that we were accused of being too much of an East Coast bias network today so let me just promote this coming up at 9 20 p.m Eastern oh wait sorry 6 20 p.m Pacific former Oregon Duck Christian Gonzalez is going to join us who is projected to go in the top 10 of the draft now I don't want people to think we're too much of an East Coast network but we are talking about Aaron Rogers today because he got introduced as a Jet since we love being an East Coast network Connor Green you are a Jets fan I haven't got your opinion on this yet so maybe we're not that much of an East Coast network because I haven't talked to you about this for the first what three hours and 40 minutes of the show um what are your thoughts on the entire Aaron Rogers situation because I will say and this is a little bit of an oxymoron I do think you are a realistic Jet fan I'm a realistic Jets fan but when it comes to this situation I am not because the last two days two days Zach sadly are the the two greatest days in the history of the Jets organization outside of Super Bowl 3 when you think of all the years and all the things that have happened this is like the second best thing that has ever happened in the history of the franchise that's sad it is it's Super Bowl 3 you're not wrong though like the last time your football team gave you joy was getting to two AFC championship games back to back correct right and even in those years you really like we didn't really have a ton of confidence because Mark Sanchez was a rookie in the first year he's a second year guy obviously in year two mistake prone like they were good but and they were never great in the regular season they never were no so it kind of was like a magical ride and you're like okay how far can this go exactly the only other time that Jets fans may have felt like this excited was going into the 1999 season after they went and testified towards Achilles in the first quarter of the first game of the season and that was it so for Jets fans like I am so optimistic for the first time in 13 years I can go into a season feeling they have a you know legitimate chance even though it's not they're not the favorite but a legitimate chance to go to a Super Bowl and the fact that he said he's going to be here for more than one year makes me more optimistic so look Tom Brady won a Super Bowl in Tampa Bay it's not out of the question that Rogers can do it with the Jets I don't think he'll win a Super Bowl with the Jets but I understand why a Jet fan today wakes up and feels like they have a shot because you do have a shot I just don't think they're going to be able to get it all to come together and then be better than the Chiefs and then also the Cincinnati Bengals just for starters but I will say you know what I realized here Hickey about Connor I think when you're looking for the next great Jet fan it's going to be Connor Green because just the way that he recalled like 1999 I think in like 20 30 years from now that's going to sound even more impressive when Connor is older I think Connor Green like 30 years from now is going to be the definition of like the old Jet fan where he's just going to be spewing all the shortcomings and all the disappointment and he'll kind of be like the new Joe Benigno that that's what I'm going to say about 20 30 years from now or what about the new fireman Ed put him on some shoulders he's small so he's not going to hurt anyone and let's start the Jets in the stadium Connor I will say I take offense to that I've been going to the gym Hickey I don't know if I will fit on anyone's shoulders Connor you actually would be perfect size to fit on someone's shoulder I probably would sadly I don't know if you're like a big chant guy can you give me your best Jets chant I'm not a great chant guy you know let me tell you this along with the flow of the crowd I'm not the one to really start anything you know you got to be better than Jack Stern the other day who was like let's go Jets that was I don't know how I think he's a Jets fan right how did he not know the Jets chant I mean I'm sure he's gone he lives in Brooklyn it's not like he's from another place he must have been to a Jets game at some point right yeah there's a lot of things he gets wrong like the basketball player how does he I could never now say Shay Gilgeous Alexander's name right because what do you call him Jill Gs Jill Gs yeah but you guys are right I'm gonna be the most insufferable miserable old man Jets fan when I'm like in my 50s or 60s I'm gonna be miserable nasty and I'll recall every one of these years and I'll go back and be like 2023 remember that one when the Jets got to the AFC title game and got beat by Cincinnati by one point you know that's how it'll be so can I get a real masculine crazy if Connor Green was like drunk at a game Jets chant from you J E T S Jets Jets Jets that was horrible I take back everything I just said my fireman Ed suggestion that was terrible Connor that was pretty good I mean high energy passion can you give a Jets chant by the way this really does sound like east coast radio but okay Hickey give me a Jets chant okay I'm standing up Con this is how you do it okay maybe the critics are right as a non-Jets fan okay this is gonna be horrible because your voice is also hot J E T S Jets Jets Jets I can't believe the Patriot fan is gonna have to be the best one at this ready gentlemen this is how it's done you gotta do the hand motion too like I guess he does it on someone's shoulders J E T S Jets Jets Jets that's what I'm talking about right there that's a little forced so it's a little like I'm gonna go really deep here to send a message J E T S Jets Jets Jets I think that's pretty good and we probably just ruined everyone's hearing Zach Gilp show CBS Sports Radio we will take a time out when we come on back should we just do an east coast only top 10 pop draft no we'll go through the 10 teams down to the NFL draft Hickey you will take the odds I will take the evens because I want control over the cults who sit at four coming on back west coast east coast we love you all Zach Gilp show CBS Sports Radio
