And welcome to worship after Robert Murray was so glad you're taking the time for the Christmas season to listening today I'm your host Jenae and I'm here with my cohost Patrick. Merry Christmas everybody method is titled to hang Christmas and although this is a Christmas message. It's really all about worship mean if we think about it because Jesus is our high priest. Christmas is the beginning of us being able to enter God's presence and encounter him on her own at any time of so Christmas is kind of the preamble to modern worship such a great point Patrick and Pastor Robert is going to dive into the latest three wise men worship Jesus with expected malicious expressive worship and extravagant worship and really how we should emulate these three ways when coming into the presence of action one really looking forward to this. So let's jump right. But if you think about this when his presence came into the world, people begin worship people begin to show up to worship him because they wanted to be in his presence.
I will focus mainly on the wife spent the better right to look at verse one. I will highlight a few things in here now. After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king's forest of emphasize one thing after Jesus was born, not before he was born, but after he was born in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise man from the east, probably Persia.
I will talk about that came to Jerusalem just want to notice the wise men did not come to Bethlehem. At first, but no less llama not at first the first dictator Jerusalem say where is Satan so they didn't know where he was. Where is he who has been born king of the Jews, for we have seen his star world talk about that star in the East. We have come to worship him.
When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled and all Jerusalem with him and when he gathered all the chief priests towards the pastors of the ones in the Scriptures of the scribes of the people together.
He inquired of them where the Christ was to be born so they said to him in Bethlehem of Judea, for thus it is written by the prophets only got the Scriptures out. I read like a 5K. By the way that you Bethlehem in the land of Judah are not the least among the rulers of Judah for out of you shall come a rumor who will shepherd my people Israel. Then Herod, when he had secretly called the wise men. This is because Herod wanted to kill Jesus.
We know, but he also wanted to kill the witnesses in my opinion that's why secretly called the wise men told to come back determine from them what time the star appeared again yet. Remember, this was not at the birth of Christ that the wise Medicaid like a after the birth and I'll show you this right to determine what time the star appeared and he sent them to Bethlehem and said go and search carefully for the young child notice. Not the baby but the young child and we found a bring back word to me that I may come and worship him also proceeded worship and when I heard the king, they departed and held the star which they seed in the East went before them. This is a supernatural phenomenon till he came and stood over where the young child was. I keep emphasizing on child just let you know the young child is in from verse eight to verse 21 gives 9×14 versus young child. When I saw the starburst he and they rejoice with exceedingly great joy. And when they come into the house. The house, not the stable base all the young child, not the baby with Mary his mother, and fell down and worshiped him, and when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to him gold, frankincense and myrrh and then being divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed for their own country another way they so we know that these guys K to worship Jesus. I want to show you three things about their worship we can learn from right. Here's number one. It was expected. Worship. It was expected worship. In other words, they K expecting something to happen when they entered the presence of the king, they K expecting something they came about a thousand miles and I won't say some things about the wise man you've heard in the called the Magi. That's because that's the Greek word Magi, meaning the plural of Magi loss which is one but here's what it means. I don't want to burst your bubble on some things, but you have to understand they were from the East.
They were Jewish people at Magi's where we get our word magic they were magicians they were astronomers and astrologers. They were sorcerers probably was that the whole Magi.
The group of Magi that these particular man were probably believers. I will show you why I believe that but let me show you if you Scriptures about the Magi Daniel Tutu. Then the king gave the command to call the magicians the Magi the magicians they astrologers that's not astronomy that's astrologers and the sorcerers in the Chaldeans, to tell the King's dream. So these men came from a group called the Magi work which were magicians. Now don't be too hard on them because you have to think about that.
We were born with a hunger to know the supernatural. And so if you weren't a part of Israel and you didn't know about God and you're not even today, a believer, people have a hunger to know the supernatural. Some cultures they have, which doctors and their sorcery still to this day in fortune-telling and Horus goes yes we will have this desire. I believe these men had.
This is our mail update again some things about them and that's why. Also there were magicians in Egypt and when Moses went there magicians lite something about them that you might not know many theologians believe that they lament many historians believe this that Baylon that the king of Moab hired to curse Israel when they were coming through the wilderness of your member the heart Baylon because Baylon was a sorcerer, a magician he was someone to cast spells on people so processes over people name. Historians believe many theologians believe this that he's the father of the Magi, and when he came to cast the spell only owned a curse on Israel God would lead, and this is something that people don't know but Baylon was actually the first one to prophesy about the star. This is possibly were these Persian Magi learned about the star strata scripture Numbers 2417. Baylon was prophesy he said I CCM I see him H EM but not now.
I behold TM is prophesied under God spirit, but not near a star shall come out of Jacob, a scepter shall rise out of Israel. These persons go back to Baylon.
The first one because Moab remember was conquered by Persia, so when I study their history. They go back to Baylon. One of their profits and probably the founder of their organization and they find him that he can't curse Israel because of their God, and he actually blesses them any prophesies about a star he got a remember in the days of Esther. I was Persia that it taken over and they were going to kill Israel and God rescued through Mordechai and through Esther God rescued the Jewish people. So the Persians were studying the history.
I realize once again, the God of Israel rescued his people. I finally remembered Daniel when they in the Babylonian captivity. I was Persia I will Persians. Those Persian is the end date there magicians there Magi there astrologers I just read John Daigle to do cannot interpret the great Jewish man in a Jewish man was rescued from the Lions being three other Jewish men rescued from the fiery furnace Parliament. So these Persians reading their history.
Keep reading about the dog of the Jews rescuing his people and they go back to prophecy that a star is going to show when this Messiah comes up and then Daniel prophesies that the Bible so phenomenal. Daniel prophesies that the Messiah is going to come in 493 years prophesies that 483 years 483 years later say was that when Jesus said no. He was actually born 453 years earlier. So where's the discrepancy because he began his ministry when he was out 3493 years exactly and they knew that the Jewish people begin their ministry when they were 30 years old and look at Joseph Williams 30 years old, David.
When he was 30 years old, most feebly Daniel was 30 years old when he interpreted the dream we don't know from the Bible that both Jewish history tells us that so 30 years old.
So they go back 30 years and the planets lined up at that time and they seem to start and then they travel they were no Tamils. Sorry you still leave the family nativity scene that's okay. I want no Tamils payroll Persian horses the finest horses in the world. It took them about nine months I traveled about a thousand miles.
These Persian horses but they didn't come they wanted the stable and when that we don't know how long it took them together place before they left. So it Jesus was a very somewhere between 9 to 18 months because when the Herod determined the time he killed all of the young men two years and under.
Since I saw he was a toddler, wasn't a baby when Wiseman came again started blow your night nice nativity scene, but a wise man once there, the statement says very clearly when they come into the house when they came into the house. They solve the young child but the baby faith and I'm all for nativity things. I love nativity save my personal belief is we should put a nativity scene on all government property. My personal belief system but here's my point is been passed down for hundreds of years about this Messiah and these Persian men traveled a thousand miles to get in his presence and worship. I've bear one very simple question report one if they made that much effort to get in his presence. Why don't you make just a little effort they knew they were expected.
You should have any excitement start coming up in your hearts on Thursday and Friday that you're going to get to enter God's presence with his people that you manners presents everyday know what you think there's something different about enter his presence with his people. Would you agree I talked with the guy this week it was great.great family construct church income about four years, but he was on himself and honest with me about worship. He suddenly broke a church like this. Know that expressive worship in my hands and all the stuff you know and so he said when we first started, lifeline we found within 45 service but I told her it started at 11 because he said the worship of said release that you but we get there early because now he's learned that worship but listen. Please understand, I know you like the message but the message she just icing on the cake. The cake is the presence of God. The cake is worship in his presence so expected worship. Here's number two about these wise men, expressive worship, expressive worship. Matthew two 1011 when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy when they come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother.
Now watch this phrase and fell down and worshiped him. The first faulty phrase. Is there a they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
Take the Bible could've just said they rejoiced that would've been the bar, they rejoiced.
But that's the word joy, they rejoiced with joy there that were great, they rejoiced with great joy. Then it adds word exceedingly, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
They express their worship and they fell down they failed and worship. Now this is not the word for being there about this is a very uncommon word in the New Testament in Greek literally means that literally means to fall down violently and be shattered. These men walked into a house, saw a toddler and fell down violently and they were shattered in his presence, and these were not unintelligent or socially unacceptable man. These were the wealthy intelligentsia of the day they collapsed you. It wouldn't be a bad idea if every now and then you collapsed in his presence.
And you were shattered. They fell down and they worship and you understand that one day every billionaire every ACS every college professor will fall down and worship you and express their love and this one is just a just a couple just a few scriptural expression so you know these are Pentecostal charismatic breathing.
These are scriptural expressions of worship Psalm 47 10, clap your hands all you people shout to God with the voice of triumph. Psalm 95 10, let us see the board let us shout joyfully to the rock of our salvation. Psalm 95 or 60 come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord our maker in Psalm 134 verse two lift up your hands in church in the sanctuary and bless the Lord, those are scriptural bows are scriptural expressions of what's in your heart and I understand I understand I grew up in a church where we didn't do that we would there still is, we could with hymnals in our hands and it was boring and we try to get there late as well, but normally all the back seats were taken when we got there like and then I walked into a church called Shady Grove church which is our Grand Prairie campus. Now people were shouting people were lifting her hands before dancing. I was during the praise and then when we entered in the worship people actually started kneeling. I've never seen that before. My people started getting on her knees in the presence of God. And I remember thinking honest, I was looking around I was, analyzing Juno and I thought many of these people are serious. This is sincere is obvious, talk to Lord I support this is good this is good. People actually kneeling before that I have element pressures like Lord suddenly what are you doing stamina for the first time ever I got on my knees and something happened to me. I could never go back to the other top worship service because I found out what it meant to express my love to God and not worry about what other people thought so is also expressive worship. Here's the third one extravagant worship, extravagant worship verse 11 when they come in the house, they saw the young child of Mary's mother, and fell down and worshiped him, and when they had opened their treasures really come back to that phrase they presented gifts to gold, frankincense and myrrh.
Now you know a few things.
First of all, these gifts had prophetic significance that they probably didn't know a thing in a moment why they offered these three gifts.
But gold represents what royalty frankincense represents divinity. Frank incense again since we offer your prayers you all for your prayers up to God giving sense and murder represents humanity. This was his humanity has divinity in his role is what they represent prophetically merge what you're going a dead body with. He was anointed with Merwin after Jeffrey was crucified like what they cake barbecue was anointed before they came to anointing the him after the Sabbath, and he wasn't there so but I think this was symbolic of his death, but here's a reason for simple why the Persians brought this.
These are the three best resources that Persia offered. They were known for these three things, they were known for gold, frankincense and myrrh. So my question is really simple to they brought their best. Do you bring your best when you come to worship because I have to get you there been many times that I haven't brought my best.
I've been thinking about something else. I've been distracted and just going to go through the song service or go through my quiet time and I don't bring my best. They brought their best and then he says this phrase which a lot of people never realize what this means. They opened their treasures cake in those days they were. They traveled with enough funds that if something happened that was unforeseen. They built to get home more than what they needed.
If they needed nine months.
Yet there nine months to get back 18 months. Most of the time the carrot about 36 months of financial aid with because I didn't know what might happen and it says they open the treasury. This is just the way I see it mom they're standing there looking at the king and something was so glorious about a toddler that one of these men said to the servant and they had bodyguards with them. One of them said opening treasury.
I'm sure the server probably said, but the server we have to keep some get back this this just my mind is what I think you said I think you said shut up difficult shut up, get it all get his I think that's where we should worship and by the way, you can ever separate worship and giving a challenging find it in Scripture. When people worship the gates we gave an offering to give sacrificially and if you would like to go to new leveling worship you go to a new level in your giving mess with these guys that they were extravagant is Leslie Valente but these guys remember the came to Jerusalem and said where is he is been born king of the Jews is a figure in the interest and they had to get the Bible out and say no Bible says Bethlehem/Northwest but I didn't know where he was right in reverse 12 says VN then is an important word in verse because it needs after they worship VN being divinely warned in a dream divinely by God, divine, divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed from their own country like that were wrapping up our series a whole. I hope you you catch this.
No QB never ever forget this because this is what it means to enter God's presence in worship. If this is how much your life will be changed to listen very carefully when before they were shipped before they entered Jesus's presence, they had to go to other people to find out what the Bible said, but after they entered his presence. God spoke directly for the most amazing things I've ever seen Scripture give your daughter worship you will always have to say to somebody what what does this mean what does this mean that once you get in the habit of entering God's presence on a regular basis.
God will speak directly when we enter God's presence in worship and are expected expressive and extravagantly we open up a line of communication with the king and no longer have to go to others to hear from you speak directly to what is an amazing thing to celebrate this Christmas season.
