Good evening, Pastor. Good evening. I didn't know I was knighted. Yes, I did. I can do that.
Oh, wow. That's awesome. I gotta ma I do I wanna start out with kind of a Well A bittersweet message tonight. I'm good with a friend over the years who struggled and struggled and struggled and struggled. with his health.
A Jim Nelson.
Well, he graduated he made it home to glory. And, um, his wife Good. sent this to me. Hard to get folks notified, just to let you know my Jim and his family are Together again in heaven. Jim had a most horrible setback this week.
Now I've got to get hold of myself. I'm Trying to do notifications to friends and loved ones. Thanks for your precious prayers. We will be buried he will be buried in Jefferson Memorial. in Pittsburgh on May maybe december twenty sixth at two PM With a small memorial prayer from Ken Barner Who.
pastures Library Baptist Church. if Ken is available. Jim passed this morning in sleep. about Yeah. Uh at five four eighteen AM.
He'll be with Jesus for Christmas and Family who have gone on to glory love Judy. And so our most sincere sin condolences for Judy and the family. uh over the years, many, many times, she she was a very, very loving wife. and she would often call me and ask me, please pray for Jim. She stayed right wid Jim.
A lot of women that would have would have given up and left their husbands who needed constant care, but she didn't. She stayed right with him. And, um, that's the way you're supposed to. That's what husbands and wives are supposed to be. Mhm.
And anyhow so So he's actually a lot better off than all of us. I know that I can. And you know, this this flu season it's been I got hit hard last week. I mean, boom, really hard. um, about the m middle of last week and But, um, I knew what I had to do right away and I went and I took my natural herbal medicines.
And that was in Uh at least good enough shape to to preach today. That's good. You sound like you're doing pretty good. Yeah, I'm doing a lot better than I was, for sure. And I just praise the good Lord all the The folks had jumped in to help me out.
As they did, you know. uh because it was pledge week. And it did affect us. We did We didn't do as well as we should have, but I praise the good Lord. that we did as well as we did.
Mm-hmm. And so, with that, Uh I have a message to preach. You ready? Ready. The title is The Beloved Physician's Declaration.
The Beloved Physician's Declaration. And you probably know who that beloved physician is. And that is from Luke chapter one and two. And so Luke was called the beloved physician by the Apostle Paul. He was actually the only remaining apostle, the only remaining one with Paul before he before he was murdered.
Most Bible scholars believe that Luke to be the only Gentile writer of a book of the Bible.
Now there are some out there, a minority, that believe that Look, actually w um Was a Jew of the of the dispersed. But Luke wrote Yeah. Uh looking X.
Some time before Hole. execution, which was about a two year period while he was there in Rome. and he was imprisoned in Rome there. And We take a look at Luke. Luke writes in a very, very, very articulate literary style.
Now, Here Uh we see that His archaeological research has confirmed that he was a very careful historian. His medical background frequently comes through also. He and Includes many events and teachings not found in the other Synoptic Gospels. and these seemed to reflect his social consciousness as well as uh concern for individuals Most of all, however. Luke he focuses on the Son of Man.
and his great mission, to seek and to save that which was lost. You know, last week we were preaching from the Gospel of John that dealt with his deity. This castle actually deals with his humanity. And so we start here. A little history just before we get started.
Uh Well, verse 1: Forasmuch as we have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of these things. which are most surely believed among us.
So But it's what actually sets the stage for that looks narrative here. the things that they all knew to be true. In other words, He's talking about th th the air things that some that were commonly believed. That was yeah, it was common knowledge at the time. And then even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eye witnesses and ministers of the word.
In other words, he said this is all first-hand knowledge. We're we're not talking about any hearsay here. It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things, from the very first to write into thee in order, most excellent Theophilus.
Now, The opalus here uh Most Most scholars believe that Well well, first of all, we know something about him. that he um He was a man of means. And but he Here. I would say Uh what was More than likely. Um A Roman.
and held an office. and the Romans government there. And Oh. Here Do you know what the word theophilus actually means? No, I have no idea.
means lover of God. Lover of God. And so he Here it appears That um Well Luke. was very discreetly chose not to use his actual name What do you think would have happened to him At this time when this was written If Here he had become known, and he was a high official in the Roman government that he received Christ and became a Christian.
Well, he certainly would have been stripped of his title and. most likely imprisoned or executed. Probably he would have been executed. Yeah. And so Paul very discreetly just refers to him as the awful lover of God here.
He goes on to say It seemed good to me also having had perfect understanding. Of all things. You notice how he. Um It makes it makes he uses that word. perfect and such is which is like absolute.
Mhm. And then he goes on to say that thou mightest know the certainty So now he combined that a perfect with certainty, a perfect certainty. of those things wherein thou hast been instructed so. Um Luke here wants to make sure that there is no doubt at all, doesn't he? Yeah.
And so making it extremely clear. Right. There was in the days of Herod now, this was Herod the Great, he was a nasty one. The king of Judea is a certain priest. named Zachariah, of the Cors of Abai, And his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
So what do you think that means to the course of Ebion, the daughters of Arim? Him and his wife They were both uh in the lineage of the Lord Jesus Christ. Mm-hmm. And they were both righteous before God walking in all the commandments, and ordnance of the Lord blameless. Boy, you know, I'd love to have that said about me.
Yeah. By one of the two.
Okay. And they had no child because both Elizabeth was barren. And they were both were well now well stricken in years, okay.
So what do you think uh Here When you had there was Only four people in the entire Bible. that that was used for were called well stricken in years. No, There was a number of people, Hannah and others, who It said that they were uh, Rebecca and that they were With age. But here only four people who do you think those four people were well stricken? Um I don't know, I think uh Well stricken, I mean not To me it sounds like Not only that they're up there in age, but it's also affecting them.
Mm-hmm. Well, it means they're way up there in age, yeah.
well s well stricken in age. That and that was Abraham and Sarah. And of course Zachariah and Elizabeth there. And they had no child because Elizabeth was barren. And they were both well now well stricken in years.
Uh who do you think the um What was it like for a woman in those days? What did they think of a woman who was not able to give her husband a son a child?
Well, they thought that uh. that she was cursed or Um She was at least out of favor with God Hunt. And so And it came to pass that while he executed the priest's office before God, in the order of his course, Now, as he served in a priest's office in the Holy of Holies, he had a two weeks for two weeks he would be be serving. And What do you think his odds were of being Of serving in the priest's office, apart from God's intervention. Um And and I don't know.
The other was nineteen hundred priests. And so if he caught it once in a lifetime, he would be doing good. He'd be beating the odds, okay.
So According to the custom of the priest's office. His lot was to burn incense when he went into the Temple of the LORD. And the whole multitude of the people. were praying without at the time. of incense, Why do you think they were doing that?
Um, well, they were probably praying for. Uh Board. Jesus to come. Yeah, they were look they weren't looking for The Messiah of Isaiah 53, they were looking for the conquering king of Revelation 19. And uh And so here You know, they were under harsh r Roman rule.
Now it had been 400 years - since they had heard from God. And There appeared unto him an angel of the Lord, standing on the right side of the altar of incessants.
Now think about this. He's in the Holy of Holies, right? When a priest goes into the Holy of Holies, he w he wears a garment And um on that garment, all around the bottom, you have bells, little bells are attached. and as he walks around you hear these little bells ring. And Also Around his ankle is tied a rope.
And why do you think He has the bells and the rope. Um, well the bells would be so they can hear him inside there. and I would I would say the rope would be in case they hear the bells stop. And they don't start up again, then they can use the rope to pull them out because they're not allowed in.
Well, no, they They would give him a little tug. If he if the if the bells hadn't rang in the area, then they would give him a little tug, and if he tugged back, all all is well. And if and after a few talks, if there was no response, Then they would have to pull him out. Why? Mm, because they weren't allowed in.
No, because and you could not have anything dead in the Holy of Holies. Nothing dead could be allowed in the Holy of Holies.
So they had to. That means. if if he wasn't moving around, that means that, um, he was dead now. Here Zacharias Looks up. And and here's this angel.
What does that angel look like? I'm not sure. Angels usually appear to be as men. They look like us, okay. Probably better looking than us.
You would think. Yeah, I would think so. I mean,. Daniel right away recognized Gabriel and In fact he was referred to by Daniel as the man Gabriel, okay. And so but now Here is the thing, and when Zachariah saw him he he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.
Okay, so why do you think he was so troubled and the fear had fallen upon him? Because there's not supposed to be anyone else in there. That's right. Anyone other than the priest assigned would be automatically stricken dead.
So now here's some one who's not not only is he not stricken dead, okay, But he's he's standing there But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias, For thy prayer is heard, And thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son, and now shall call his name John.
Now, That should have been a red flag to Zacharias about who he is, right? Because How how else would he He knows. What did Zachariah's prayers were, right? Yeah. And so, but here's a guy, Zacharias.
And this fella He's praying for a son. And him and his wife, they're they're probably my age, you know. And so that's not a real likely thing, but this here he tells 'em. Uh You know, you you gotta have a son, right? And it's like You know, it's like, you know, he'd been praying and praying and praying.
Now, But but now, listen to this, because now it gets even stranger, really. And But fear not, Zacharias, for thy prayer is heard, and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John. What What What's the red flag there?
Well, I mean, I I I think typically in that time frame if you had a son, you would name him after the father. That wasn't just typical. That was the tradition and they They held tradition. Uh is is Titus the scriptures. You know, you didn't break tradition.
That was like breaking the scriptures. It goes on. and thou shalt have joy and gladness And many shall rejoice at his birth. For he shall be great in the sight of the LORD. And shall drink neither wine nor strong drink, and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost even from his mother's womb.
Now John was the very first one That was said would be filled with the Holy Ghost from his mother's womb. In fact, he was the only one. That was said would be filled with the Holy Ghost from his mother's womb. Of course, we know that Jesus was. Oh, yeah.
But John was the only one. that that was said of Now What else was said about John? Uh that he Wouldn't wouldn't partake in strong drink or wine?
Well, When when you hear it, for he shall be great in the sight of the Lord. Jesus said, Of men born of women, there were none greater, none greater than John the Baptist. None.
Okay. For he shall be great in the sight of the LORD, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink. and shall be filled with the Holy Ghost even from the mother womb.
So now That tells that, um made some people think right away that He was a Nazarite. But he went in as right. How do we know he wasn't a Nazarite? Um Didn't Nazarites uh have long hair and Um Right. Not only could he not he couldn't ever touch anything dead, he couldn't he he could never cut his hair.
and all of these things, so But if he was to have been a Nazarite, wouldn't someone like John the Baptist would have been a set by his mother or his father? Our Third um Or Lord Jesus Himself? Do you think? Yeah, I would think.
Okay. Here And the the interesting thing too We are in verse fifteen. When he talked about Well No other person, there was no other person. Oh.
Well, except the Lord Himself, but it was He was the only one, I want to say, the only person. that was said that be filled with the Holy Ghost from the womb.
Now His mother who was going to be said filled with the Holy Ghost, but uh That wasn't From the womb, actually, it was from her womb. And many of the children of Israel shall turn to the LORD their God. And he should go from Before him in the spirit of in the power of Elijah to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children. and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, to make ready a people. prepared for the Lord now.
John was not Elijah. See, there are people out there that say John was Elijah. John wasn't Elijah. Uh D do the Jews to this very day still set a a place at the table for Elijah to come back? I think so.
Yeah, okay. And so but he was not and will Elijah return? Yeah. Uh And John was not Elijah, but was in the spirit of Elijah. We see that in the spirit in both The good and the evil, don't we?
Mm-hmm. Because wasn't um As we take a look about uh Judas was in the spirit of what? The devil crept in, the Antichrist. And what about Nero Caesar? I would say the same.
He had the spirit of Antichrist, didn't he? Yeah. And Zacharias now here's Here's where Zacharias messed up. And Zachariah said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? For a I am an old man and my wife is well stricken in years.
Okay. Uh so here He's there. Here's his fellow appears. He's an angel. You don't ever Ever tell an angel you think he's lying.
Yeah. But, you know, the Jews always ask for a sign, right? Yeah. And so Now can you imagine Just imagine Uh the way Gabriel is going to answer him. And the angel answered and said unto him, I am Gabriel.
It stands in the presence of God. and am set to speak unto thee and to show thee glad tidings. And behold Thou should be dumb, you know. You might as well It w it wasn't a smart thing to do to begin with. That should be dumb.
and not able to speak until the day that these things shall be performed. because thou believest not my words. which shall be fulfilled in their season.
Now Here it wasn't. that he just didn't believe. The angel? The angel was speaking on behalf of God, wasn't he? Yeah, yeah, so it's kind of it was a slight towards God as well.
Yeah. And um And so here. He goes on, and people waited for Zacharias. and they marvelled as he tarried so long in the temple. And when he came out he could not speak to them.
and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple, for he beckoned to them and remained speechless, and it came to pass as soon as the days of administration were accomplished. He departed to his own house. And after those days his wife Elizabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying, Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein they looked on me, to take away my reproach amongst men. And so Where do you think, G? She would hear that reproach Do you think you would hear more from the men or from the women?
Um, probably more the women. Yeah, I I would say about two hundred percent more, you know. And um And in the sixth month. The angel Gabriel sent forth from God unto a city of Galilee named Nazareth, What was said of Nazareth? Remember what they said about Um, wasn't it uh kind of a poor area?
Yeah, what good thing can come from Nazareth? Yeah. To a virgin espoused to a man. whose name was Joseph of the house of David. And the Virgin's name was Mary.
No. To be espoused was uh, exactly l it was like being married Legally uh With The only difference is c uh without the comp Um Consummating the marriage. Consummating the marriage. And that's what finalized the marriage, the consummation. No, he said.
Here In in fact, i i in order for them to break off Uh the espoused espousal they had to get, uh, papers of divorcement. And so An angel came unto her, and said, Hail Thou that art highly favoured, the LORD is with thee. Blessed art thou among women. And when she saw him, she was troubled. And is saying And cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.
So what did What do you think that, um that Mary just heard. You see Here Mary had been given the privilege. of fulfilling the ancient Promise given to Eve of choosing a a woman to bear the promised seed that would crush the head of the serpent, Generous generous Genesis three fifteen. And so it's called the evangelium. And so here She meant she knew about that.
Okay. And that was the dream of all the The Hebrew women, the young Hebrew women, to be the one and here out of the cr do you do you think that she ever really thought at any time that that she would be that woman? Oh, she probably had doubts.
Okay. And and so here now why do you think What uh why do you think God chose her? Uh, because she was pure. He looked upon her heart. Yeah.
And so she must have been some lady, I gotta tell you. And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found favor with God.
Well, I'm going to tell you, you like to hear those words, you have found favor with God. And behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name Jesus. He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest. Excuse me. And the LORD God shall give him the throne of his father David, And shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever, and of his kingdom there shall be no end.
Wait a minute, I thought God was his father. How could David be his father? Um But doesn't that go with uh prophecy, the lineage of David? As referred to the legal, he was his legal father. Meaning, yeah, that goes back to That Christ was the heir to the throne.
He was the only one Legitimately No. Filled. Um The rain of of of David, the right to the throne of David. And so He goes on to say. And the kingdom should be no end.
Well, he was the only one ever, the Lord Jesus, whose kingdom will. We'll have no end at all, huh? Mm-hmm. Then said Mary to the angel, How shall this be seen uh I know not a man. And so Uh here G Do you think she she knew that, first of all, You know, when she told Joseph, you know, that she didn't know that she had known a man and then Uh Joseph at at first he didn't believe it, right?
He was thinking, Well, um This this woman's going, right? Mm-hmm. With them Oh, when God speaks to 'em Uh he changed his mind. He knew for sure that It was by the Holy Spirit.
So here now. Um Well, she's saying, well, to Gabriel, well, how do you know, how do I know this? Oh I haven't known a man, you know, and And uh do you think you figured, well, If she had known the man, the heat the the angel would know it. Oh, of course, yeah. And so here the angel answered and said.
Come on to her. The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the highest, Shall overshadow thee.
Now listen to this Therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.
Okay. Now, why do you think it was called the Holy Thing? Um because Because it it was in a sense a miracle. being born without a human father. Would you would you say that Jesus was above an ordinary human?
And what The there possibly was no A word To describe him because there had never been any such thing as him. Yeah. And behold, thy cousin Elizabeth. She hath also conceived a son in her old age, And this is the sixth month with her. Who was called Baron?
You know, that I mean I know And they Got used to that. Uh these women to do Um Where they they could justify you know, like what is said to of Elizabeth, you know, when people said that she was not favorite of God or whatever. And that went Hannah and and And and um Sarah and But Today according to DEI and woke. Yeah. You could have it even if you're old, and you don't even have to be a woman.
Yeah. Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of delusions out there. I mean Mm the way Just think about People that say these things are Holding public offices. I know. They're they're teaching in the universities.
and many of them, worse than both, are in the pulpit. And he goes on to say. For with God nothing shall be impossible. And Mary said, Behold, the handmaid of the LORD. Be it unto me according to thy word.
And the angel departed for So Mary handed handled that news with Gabriel better than Zachariah's big time, yes. Complete one eighty. Yeah. And so here And Mary rose in those days and went into the hill country with haste until city of Judas though she travelled. Uh, about eighty about seventy miles, I believe.
and entered into the house of Zachariah and sal saluted Elizabeth. And it came to pass that when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, The baby leaped in her womb You know, the salute and salutation is not like what we salute today. It was simply a greeting. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost. And now she had John in her womb.
filled with the Holy Ghost and now she's the second one to become filled with the Holy Ghost. And she spoke out with a loud voice, saying, Blessed art thou among women, And blessed is the fruit of thy womb. Let me ask you this. Is this very day? Is it still said of Mary to be blessed amongst women?
Today, throughout the entire world, What name amongst women is is the best known name? Mary. Right. You hear that, Hilary? Yeah.
Yeah. Anyhow. And so Mary Today is is amongst is the best known name. amongst the women. And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord shall come to me?
For lo as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy. And blessed is she that believed, for there shall be a performance of these things. which were told from the Lord. And here now Mary says And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the LORD There's a name for this. What is the name for this?
It's called the Magnaficut. Magnificat. The magnificat. And actually some of this, you know, would have said here, had I said. And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaid, Now, you know, here I I gotta tell you. There are a lot of people Try to say that Mary Mary was such a young woman. I don't know why they do that. that she was about 14 years of age. Tell me, does this sound like a fourteen year old?
And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the lowest state of his handmaid, for behold From henceforth all generations shall call me blessed, and they did, and they are. For he hath For he that is mighty hath done to me great things, and holy is his name. And His mercy is on them that fear Him from generation to generation. He has showed strength.
with his arm. He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things, and the rich hath he sent empty away. He hath hope in his servant Israel.
in remembrance of his mercy, He spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to the seed for ever, and Mary abode with her about three months and returned to her own house.
So who who was Mary talking about? Um Mary's talking about God. Specifically the Lord Jesus Christ. The very child that she has in the womb, the omni Omniscient, omnipresent. And so here Uh Remember, God the Father gives the marching orders.
The Lord Jesus always carries these things out. With the power of the Holy Spirit.
Now Elizabeth's full time came. That she should be delivered. And she brought forth a son. And her neighbors and her cousins. Heard how the Lord had showed great mercy upon her, and they rejoiced with her.
I'm gonna Take a wet my whistle. Uh This is the third time today. And it came to pass. That on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child, and they called him Zacharias after the name of his father.
Okay, so why do they why do you think they came to do that on the eighth day. Um, was that tradition? Uh, no, uh well, actually Today science tells you that it is the the best time Uh, biologically to circumcise a male child is on the eighth day. To and they and guess what? That's what they do it today.
They still do that today. And so here And they called him Zacharias after the name of his father. And his mother answered and said, Not so, but he shall be called John. Boy, I'm going to tell you, did you think that that didn't go over too good with him, did it? No, probably.
Turned a lot of heads and uh You silly woman, you you're not breaking tradition. What do you think you're doing here? And so And they said unto her, There is none of thy kinddrom that is called by this name. And they made signs to his father that And he would have him called, and he asked for a writing table. and wrote, saying, His name is John.
And they marveled, Can you would you like to have been there and looked at that? They all were looking at each other, huh? Yeah, he he still can't speak.
Well, but right n right now his mouth is open immediately. And his tongue loosed, and he spake and praised God. and fear came and all that dwelt around about them. And all these sayings were noised Why do you think fear came up all about him? Look at the events, right?
Here you have an 80-year-old woman given birth To his son. And instead of Uh calling him after his father They Broke tradition. And they called him John And uh I mean out of nowhere He starts speaking again. Right. saying all and all these were noise all abroad throughout all the hill country of Judea.
And they all that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, what manner of child shall this be? And the hand of the Lord was with him.
So Here now, do you know what a benedictus is? No. Well, you're about to hear a Benedictus. This is his father, Zacharias. And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost.
And he prophesied, saying, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, for he hath visited and redeemed his people. And hath raised up a horn of salvation. Yeah. in the house of his servant David. And he spoke by the mouth of his holy prophets which have been since the world began.
That we should Be saved from our enemies. And from the hand of all that hate us.
Well, here he's actually. Um Fulfilling the prophecy The covenant of Abraham.
Okay, here to perform the mercy promised to our fathers and to remember his holy covenant The oath which he swore to our father Abraham that would have been over in Genesis chapter twelve. Um The worst three of you know. And also In Genesis twenty two, verses sixteen through eighteen. That He would grant it to us that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies, might serve him without fear. The holiness and the righteousness before him all the days of our life.
And thou child should be called the prophet of the highest, for thou should go before the face of the LORD to prepare his way. And To give knowledge of salvation. unto his people by the remission of their sins, So John came preaching one. Repittance. Repittance.
Man. Here now he goes on. through the tender mercies of our God, whereby the day spring from on high hath visited us. to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace. And the child grew and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of the showing in Israel.
Now we look at the birth of Christ. And it came to pass that in those days there went on a decree from Caesar Augustus. That all the world should be taxed. And this taxing was first made when Cyrenaus was governor of Syria. Its own.
Well actually this tax was more like a census. They had to get everybody back. uh to their original homes and then count them. And then after that, then they would tax them. And all went to be taxed, everyone to his own city.
And Joseph also went up from Galilee out of the city of Nazareth into Judea. And to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house of the lineage of David. That, again, was another that was another seventy mile journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem. Yeah. And so Here Just imagine this.
Just imagine Bean. heavy with child, How long do you think it would take to go that 70 miles? I mean, because. You were gonna be doing it sitting on on on the back of an ass. Yeah, I mean It would take a couple of days at least.
Yeah. Do you think, you know, in this situation here, Um They had I mean they had some Awesome security Hadn't been for that 'cause it would it would the route would be filled with bandits. Along the way The nights would be cold, But Uh God sent them there. And They were protected of the Lord, huh? And so He goes on To be taxed would marry his espoused wife, being great with child.
And so it was that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son wrapped in swaddling clothes. and laid him in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn. No. Um The houses in Israel, even to this very day, the the Still Are built somewhat the same.
Of course, they're different nowadays, but. The the first floor The first floor would be like usually fairly open in the front, but it would be. uh for the animals. Today in Israel they have the same thing, but they use it like for a garage. Under there.
Then the second floor. the second level, you might say. is where people they live the the bedrooms and the bathrooms And uh you know, the kitchen and so on would be up there. And then On the top floor Wi would is where they would do their entertaining, where people would come over, guests would come over. And it's pretty much uh uh a lot like that, you know, not exactly, but today in Israel.
Except for obviously, instead of animals, they have they they have their gar c their cars down in the garage and uh But it hasn't changed that much. And so here now H here were th they came. And they were there Uh at the bottom floor, the first floor where the animals kept because There was no other rooms available. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch. over the flock by night.
Nope. At any time in history, if I could go back to any time in history This will be one of those days where I would want to go back.
Okay. And lo, the angel of the LORD came I think it's a very good idea. and the glory of the Lord shone around about them. and they were sore afraid, And the angel said unto them, Fear not, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy that shall be to all people for unto you is born this day in the city of David. A Saviour which is Christ the Lord.
Now what is so magnificent uh that is so miraculous about this. Um Let me give you it's the angel of the Lord.
So. the Lord our Lord was born and he appeared to them as an angel.
Well, no, he, the angel of the Lord, is a Christophany. Yeah. Now The the Lord is omnipresent omnipresent In other words, here The Lord Jesus Himself. is in now seen. that his birth, In a manger Oh.
Far not far from there is taking place.
So he's he himself is announcing his own birth. And so Now, how do we know that this is a Christophany? How do we know for a fact that this is the Lord? Because it says the angel of the Lord. Right.
Okay. But let's look for some more evidence. Uh He says For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord, and it shall be a sign unto you you shall find the babe, wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger, Now let me go back to verse nine. And lo, the angel of the LORD came upon them, and the glory, the glory of the LORD shone around about. them.
What is the glory of the Lord? Uh probably the The power and the presence of Shikana. It's called the Shakana Glory. And where. Where will you find the only place you'll find Chicano Glory is where you'll find what?
Jesus In the presence of the Lord. Right. Okay. And so now. Here you've got the Chicano Glory.
Now And suddenly there was with the angels multitude of heavenly hosts praising God. And saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace and good will towards men. Could those angels praise anyone other than God? No. And so they were in the presence of the Lord themselves, huh?
Mm-hmm. Okay. And it came to pass now I would have loved to have been there for that. Mm-hmm. have been one of those shepherds that night to see that.
Okay. And do you think those shepherds When they saw that What do you think they wanted to do right away? They probably wanted to run right away. Yeah. And it came to pass as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, The shepherds said to one another, Let us now go into Bethlehem, and see this thing which came to pass.
which the LORD hath made known unto us.
Now, that's very, very significant. He didn't make known unto all the kings of the earth. He made this known to the shepherds, the low the the common folk, huh? Yeah. Do you think?
that after this do you think that for the rest of their days That those those shepherds told their children and grandchildren? Oh, yeah. And they came with haste, and found Mary and Joseph and the babe lying in the manger. And when they seen it, they made known A broad saying Which was told them concerning the child. And all that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. And so Can you imagine being married there at that time? Hmm. And so And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen. as it was told unto them.
And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcision of the child. His name was called Jesus, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. You know, Jesus means salvation, huh? Yeah. and when the days of her pur purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, They brought him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.
How many days do you think it was of her purification? Um I'm I'm not sure. Eight? No. It was if if it was a male child, it was forty days.
If it was a male child, forty days. If it was a female child, it was eighty days. And so That's why I decided to be born a male. Yeah, you I didn't want to wait that long either. And when the days of your purification according to be the law by the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord.
As it is written, The Law of the LORD, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the LORD. And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said. in the wall of the ward a pair of turtle doves and two young pigeons, those that could afford a lamb would offer up a lamb. And behold, there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and the same was a man just and devout. waiting for consolation of Israel.
And the Holy Ghost was upon him. And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. Anyway came by the Spirit unto the temple, And when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him after the custom of the law, Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant Depart in peace according to thy word. For mine eyes have seen the salvation which thou hast prepared before the face of all people, A light to lighten the Gentiles And the glory of thy people Israel. And Joseph and his mother marvelled at these things which were spoken of them.
And Simeon blessed them and and said unto Mary his mother, Behold, This child is and the rising again of many in Israel. and for a sign which shall be spoken of against You know, so he was telling Mary In a sense he was saying, unfortunately, You're going to be standing by the cross with your seeing your son crucified. He didn't say it in those words, but. Yea, sword shall pierce through thy own soul. That the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.
And then there was one, Anna, a prophet, the daughter of Phano. of the tribe of asked her. She was of great age, and had lived with her husband seven years. from her virginity.
Well, in other words, Yeah. Her husband had Yeah. died seven years after she had married her husband, And she was a wiv widow of four scores. and forty years. which departed that so which departed not from the temple, but served God, with fasting and prayers night and day.
So You add if the force corps is eighty years, add seven, that's eighty seven. And how old do you think she was when she got married? I I would think she was probably at least fourteen, I think. around well, and she would be older than my guess I would have to say that that she would be older than that. I w I would say at least seventeen or eighteen.
That would put her well over a hundred years of age. And she came in Coming in the instant. Gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all of them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. I'm going to stop there. But we're talking about.
the Lord Jesus Christ. Salvation And Jesus, as we always say, is the reason, he's the only reason for the season. And it always comes down to the bottom line. How many times over the years Have we given uh An imitation out there Every now and then I'll get a letter back, or someone will write I I said that prayer with you. Folks, again, every single time that you hear a preacher give an invitation, that's the Lord talking to you.
