Stu sits down with Pastor David Chadwick of Moments of Hope Church in Charlotte, North Carolina, for a conversation about ministry, the Gospel, discipleship, and reaching people right where they are. David shares the story behind Community Matters Café, an outreach of Charlotte Rescue Mission that gives people recovering from addiction an opportunity to rebuild their lives through faith, work, and purpose. He also talks about his decades of ministry in Charlotte, his family serving alongside him, and why he believes we are called to "refire," not retire.

This is the Truth Network. He is a hope dealer. He is with me at breakfast. He wants to buy my breakfast. David Chadwick, I can't let you buy my breakfast here, man.

Tell us where we are and what is going on in Charlotte. This restaurant.

Well, this is called Community Matters Cafe, and I am going to pay for it because I want the blessing—a blessing, you, okay, from the Lord. All right, it's an amazing restaurant.

Some years ago, Tony Marciano, who at that point was head of the Charlotte Rescue Mission, which is an addiction recovery program for people caught in the Quagmire of addiction. Going through their program and ultimately getting well.

Well, Tony had this idea: all these people who go through our program who are getting well, how do we then get them into workplaces where they can start to have a positive identity and feel like they're productive, so they. Built a community matters cafe which serves breakfast and lunch, operates every day, and the people who serve us do are doing it right now. All come out of the addiction program of the of the Charlotte Rescue Mission.

So these people go through the program, they receive the message of Jesus, whose love, grace, and mercy can conquer their addiction. They walk in their identity, and now they have work, which makes them feel like they're accomplishing something as well. While we wait for our honeybee lattes, I can't wait to try that. And while we For our food to come, David Chadwick, talk about moments of hope. Your church, your ministry, your passion.

You just had me on your live show, which was just a blessing.

Well, we recorded for the big show. You know, Sunday morning, twenty six years. What a run! Talk about your passion. What God's doing at your church, brother?

Well, we've been in existence for a little over seven years. We have. Recently, found property that we're purchasing the Morrison YMCA in Ballentine. It's a 22-acre, 110,000-square-foot facility. The Y, because of some financial extremists, felt like they needed to sell it.

We were looking for something for seven years; nothing opened up for us. This opened up for us, so we're purchasing it right now. We're in an agreement, and we're going to go through all our due diligence and hopefully close in June of 2027, and hopefully take control of the building sometime in August. September of 2027 as well, and the question is: It's 77 years old. You played.

Oh, look at those delicious lattes! Thank you so much for Maurice. Thank you, buddy. Wow, you played basketball for Dean Smith at University North Carolina. And you got a lot of stories with that.

Now you're in ministry, and you're still going at 77. What's going on with that?

Well, I just don't think we're ever supposed to retire. I think we're supposed to refire. And and I've learned so much, and I'm in great health. My doctors tell me I can keep going.

So why stop? And people seem to want to still listen to what I have to say to expose God's word and teach them from God's word. Going through the Gospel of Luke right now. Going to do it for about two years. But I just think God's word speaks for itself, and those of us who have knowledge about it can go deep.

Into the Word of God and teach to other people and have their lives be blessed accordingly. He's a pastor of Moments of Hope Church.

Now we're going to take a sip of this latte. I'm going to tell you right now, this is a honey.

Well, honey bee latte, honey bee latte. It's absolutely delicious. Tell me, there's your sip. What do you think? Oh my soul!

Wow, I just, I just look at that. That's just like a, that's like a mug of just of heavenly, delicious something. They gotta serve this in heaven. They got to. It's just too delicious, not to.

But this first, this service is in the middle of an addiction program. God's using them, and this is a beautiful restaurant. Right here in Uptown Charlotte, I'm looking at the. Look at is that Panther Stadium right there?

Okay, and David, your heart is for the city, God. You know a lot of ministry happens in cities. Charlotte is is called the Queen City. You're bringing the King's message in the Queen City with your church. Talking people about the importance of impacting people where they are.

You you know you are you do a big radio show at a secular radio station, conservative talk, you know, and but but a lot of business programming. They carry the Panthers, you know. It's it's a WBT, the Heritage Station, which which you are so gracious to have me on to talk about the new book, but talk about the importance of just wherever you said wherever wherever your feet go, and that's where God has you. Yeah, where's your mission field? It's between your feet.

Wherever you may be, God wants you to be His representative, His ambassador for His kingdom.

So. WBT opened up for me 26 years ago. I've just loved the people there. They continue to have me on. I say, "Hey, I'm a follower of Jesus.

Do I offend people with my radio show, which talks unashamedly about Jesus and His Word?" They go, "No, keep doing it because you're valuable." And they've kept inviting me to do so.

So God has placed me here in Charlotte now for 46 years, Stu. That Marilyn and I have served faithfully this city. We love the city. It's the second fastest growing city in the nation, and we just feel like God has us here to be His representative. To the people who need Jesus here, we'll we'll reach some people, others can't reach, and others will reach others.

But together with the gospel, we all try to help this city become all that God wants it to be. David Chadwick, is there anything more encouraging than see someone come to know Jesus, walk with Jesus? You've seen it in your own family.

Now you've got some of your kids are in ministry. Talk about that, and talk about the importance of of being a witness, being a vibrant witness, and casting that net and then making disciples. Yeah, that's our motto at our church to. Honorify God by making disciples who know Jesus, grow in Jesus, and go for Jesus. This church I formed seven years ago.

My family is now working with me in ministry. As you mentioned, my son Michael is on staff with me. My son-in-law Ryan is with me. My daughter Bethany writes some of my material. My wife Marilyn is with me in ministry.

She has a seminary degree now, and it's just been fun sharing family ministry among a staff of twenty-five or thirty people. And we have just made the commitment to be Jesus where. Ever we may be, and you know, Stu, we talked about it earlier. We're in sales; God's in management. Our job is to proclaim the gospel, to live for Jesus.

It's not our job to draw people unto Himself; that's God's job.

So, we're trying to be faithful with the proclamation of God's word, the teaching of the Scripture, and letting God draw people unto Himself. Celebrating baptism Sunday this Sunday, we're going to be baptizing. I don't know, twenty, thirty people. I'm looking forward to that as well. It's just what God is all about—bringing people unto Himself.

It's the major calling of the word. That is the Great Commission, friends. Find a church, find a pastor that's growing, that's going, that's teaching God's Word. David Chadwick's doing it in Charlotte.

Now, Pastor David, let me ask you this one more question. We had our 25-year Truth Network anniversary, and it was it happened about the same time we were celebrating Billy Graham's passing. And you spoke at the NRB to a group of folks. You had some great Billy Graham stories. What would you want to say?

What do you want on your tombstone? How does David Chadwick want to be remembered? Like, what do you feel like God's put in your heart for your legacy? You know, you are still going at seventy-seven; you still got twenty or thirty good years, man. But what would you say to folks out there that you want to be remembered by in terms of the Lord, the kingdom, and the stamp that you've made on this earth?

I would hope, Stu, that on my tombstone it might say, "A friend to sinners," a friend to sinners. I love. God's people who are redeemed, but I also love those who aren't redeemed. And you know, Jesus got castigated by the religious leaders for being a friend to sinners, but that's how he lived his life. That's how I want to live my life as well.

And to let even the most lost person know out there, they're an image bearer of the Lord, created in His image, and he is, she is deeply valued by our Lord. And I want to be a part. I'm trying to help bring them to that relationship with Him, which is all about eternity. Really, when you look at our lifetime. I'm here.

It's just such a breath. It's such a short vapor. But eternity is long.

So I just want everybody in the world to spend eternity with Jesus. I'm committed to the gospel of Jesus Christ. I'm not ashamed of the gospel of Jesus Christ. May I proclaim it until I have no more breath left, and hopefully see as many people as possible enter the kingdom of God.

Well, thanks for buying my breakfast this morning. You're so kind. We're gonna finish these honeybee lattes. We've got some food coming up from this community cafe, which is a an outgrowth of the Ministry of the Charlotte Rescue Mission.

So everything that goes from here goes to help people get off the streets, get the gospel, get a good three square meals, right, and all that. David Chadwick, what's the best way folks want to get your amazing book on significance and authenticity, which is a great book, and your other books, and they want to find out about your church, hear your messages, hear your radio show. What's Best kind of website location. Yeah, go to momentsofhopechurch dot org and and all of that is there. I do a daily moment of hope with my wife Marilyn, four or five minutes, just try to giving people a daily moment of hope.
