And he has written a book, and you are going to be so encouraged. And after today, I don't think he'll be complaining as much. Because what has God given you? With two good eyes, and God has given this man vision to challenge me. He's been on the show before, and he's back.
Pastor Chad, it is a blessing to have you back in the hot seat here on Truth Talk Live, brother. Oh, it's a joy to be with you. Thank you for having me.
Well, thanks for being here. Thanks for what you're doing with your book, Blind Faith, subtitle: Seeing God Through Darkness. Today we're going to hear about your journey. What happens in your life, by the way, friend, if suddenly You're just trekking along. Through life, and you lose your eyesight completely, and it doesn't come back, and it still doesn't come back, and you go see another expert and specialist, and it still doesn't come back.
Well, that's the story. That's what happened to this man. You're going to hear how it happened. You're going to hear about a book that God put on his heart. In this journey, in this trial, that has blessed thousands, even millions.
He's still pastoring. He didn't give up. Pastor Chad. I mean, at some point, you just gotta walk away from the faith and say, man, I'm done with this. Why would God call me to ministry?
Call me to be married to a godly woman, have an awesome family, go on missions, and do all this stuff. And he takes my eyesight away. Pastor Chad, why not just, like Job's wife advised, curse God and die? I mean, how could you still be going, brother? What's going on here?
Well, as you can imagine, I mean, it left me with more questions than answers when it first happened. And you remember the disciples in the Gospels when they came across the man born blind? Remember the questions they had? Who sinned? This man or his parents?
I know that's how I felt.
Well, you know, I've really had to inventory my life and say, God, Have I done something unknowingly? Have I angered you? Have I offended you? But, you know, as I walked this out with the Lord, he began to teach me that, no, he's for me, he's not against me, he's got the best plan that I could ever write. I mean, I could write a plan better than what God has, and this is part of his plan.
And when I accepted that. When I said, No, God, I'm going to follow you in whatever you deem good for me. I'm going to call good.
Well, that's when my faith really began to explode. And that's when I now, you know, Sadie and I look back and we tell people everywhere we go. There's been far more gain. Then there's been loss. And we mean that with all of our hearts.
Wow.
Well, one of the highlights of my National Religious Broadcasters Convention this past year was simply to, they said, Stu, you got to interview this guy. Like, what are you talking about? You got to, I have, man, I had so many meetings. Man, I had to meet with Dr. Jeremiah.
I had to meet, had this breakfast, this brunch, this luncheon. This, you know, I had to go speak here and go sign this and do this for my book. And they're like, you got to meet Pastor Chad. You got to, okay. I'm like, okay, Bauer Sox, I'll meet him.
I walk in and I meet you and I meet your wife. I was running so hard and so fast. I didn't even realize you were blind. I mean, you have such a contagious smile, and you're such a sweet spirit. And you just have such a presence, you know, all your other, believe me, all your other senses are popping at 100 or 1,000%.
But, Pastor Chad, This has been a blessing in. Of all the people God has called, it's like God's got an amazing sense of humor. And he's called you a blind pastor. To lead, you were just at Faith Fest preaching to 30,000 people. That you couldn't see, but your heart's eyes were just pouring out tears for their salvation, weren't they?
Yeah. But you know, I say today, Stu, my kingdom assignment as a blind pastor is to help people find faith in their struggles. It is to help people trust a God you can't see. That's my job today. Wow.
So we're going to chop that up, break that down. We got him on for a good chunk of the show today. Pastor Chad Roberts, his book is Blind Faith: Seeing God Through Darkness. You may have a thought, you may have a question, you may want to talk to him. You may want to ask him a very candid question.
I don't know very many people as open, transparent as this man of God is. But, Pastor, this is all kind of a setup. For a big event coming to North Carolina.
So, we want all of our North Carolina peeps, anyone. In fact, there will be people flying in, maybe from Utah, maybe our listeners in Ohio will want to come to this. It's not that long a drive, but it's worth it because the event is called Unstoppable Church.
Now, why would God call you to put on this kind of event? Set this thing up for us. I want people to save the dates. We'll talk about the event throughout the show today, but real quick, give us a little teaser, brother, will you? Yes, when God put this vision within our hearts, I sense that term, the unstoppable church, because you know, and I know you know this, Stu, and I know your listeners know this.
We face the same devil. Every single one of us, we're all engaged in this great spiritual battle, this great spiritual warfare. But you remember what Paul called it? He called it the Good fight of faith. Even though we're in a struggle, and even though Satan opposes each of us, he's opposing our ministries, he's opposing our marriages, he's opposing our churches, he is always trying to hinder and prevent the work of God.
But what did Jesus say? The gates of hell will never prevail against the church. And so, as I pondered that, and I just thought, you know, not only is the church unstoppable, well, that means we who serve the church.
Well, we are unstoppable too, because greater is He who is in us than He who is in the world. And we began to dream and just say, what would it look like not only for lead pastors, not only for pastors' wives, but what would it look like for a whole church staff? Or you take a 501c3 or a nonprofit or a parachurch organization. What would it look like if the entire team, whether they're paid staff or whether they're key volunteers, and they attended a conference together as a team and they were encouraged together? They walked away feeling more equipped and they walked away feeling more strengthened.
That's the vision for this thing. Wow, the unstoppable church conference.
Now, the dates, you need to save these dates, are, I believe, is October 23rd. Is that right, Pastor? That's right. 23rd and 23rd and 24th. 24th, it's two days.
You come in for all of it, come in for some of it, but you need to register pretty quick because it's going to fill up fast. It's at the Triad Baptist Church, which is conveniently located in the middle, right off I-40, in the middle of the Triad in Kernersville, which is like the city in the heart of, right dead center of Greensboro, North Carolina, High Point, North Carolina, Winston-Salem, North Carolina, which makes up the Triad.

So unstoppable church conference. You got other little breakout sessions too. But Gary Thomas, who's been on Focus on the Family, who's just a premier marriage. I mean, why do pastors' marriages need encouragement? How important is that, brother?
Well, again, Satan puts a bullseye on it. And he's always he's just he's looking for any opportunity that he can. Again, we have to constantly remind ourselves, what did Paul write in Ephesians six? Says, we do not wrestle or we do not struggle with flesh and blood. You know, our battle is not other people.
Our battle is not if our spouse was better or would change, or you know, if our board was different at the church, or if we had, you know, we've got to look beyond people and we have to see the real influence that's trying to hinder and trying to oppose. We're going to take a quick break more with Pastor Chad, how he lost his sight and how God gave it back to him on a huge multiple spirit seat when we come back. Hang on. No.
So, what would your life be like if one day the lights went out, you became completely blind? That's what happened. To Pastor Chad Roberts, he wrote a whole book about a blind faith. I want you to get that book. We'll tell you how you can get that book.

I thought the church was dying. I thought there was no more hope. I thought, you know, it's just all the churches are weak. I can't find a good church. It's all of hypocrites.
I don't want to go. I'll fit in. It's a, you know, the church is full of messed up sinners. I mean, how could you promote a church conference, Pastor? What do you say to those folks that say that?
I had someone this weekend tell me that they didn't go to church because, you know, they're hypocrites there. And you know what I said, Stu? I said, well, do you go to Target? You go to Walmart. I mean, if the hypocrites go there, I said, brother, that's pretty hypocritical now.
Yeah, that's right. Yeah, don't go. You'll fit right in. Hey, welcome. We need one more.
It won't hurt to have one more. But, you know, we joke, and I get tired of hearing some great parachurch groups, great Bible studies, men's groups, but I get tired of hearing, well, I just don't get this at church.
Well, look, go plug in somewhere and be that. Go plug in somewhere and make disciples of your church. Make a difference. Pray for your pastor. Give them some love.
Give them some support. Give them some encouragement. And this is basically a... And by the way, there's a cool event happening. just a few days before your event called Refuel.
Up at Thomas Road Baptist Church, Jonathan Falwell. Jason, the pastors up there recognize we need pastors encouraged. We want to bless them. And they're doing refuel on Monday and Tuesday, the 19th and 20th. And then literally, I'm going to go to that and I'm going to drive down my truth truck all the way to Kernersville on that same Friday, the 23rd, to the unstoppable church conference.
And Pastor Chad, you're right in the throes of it. Hey, people are signing up. People are getting excited. They're going to come here. Who's it for it?
Going to be pastors and their wives, going to be leaders, anyone that's really interested in growing in the Lord and getting some real healing and whatnot. Yes, sir. Our hope, because we're not only designing this with pastors in mind. We're designing it with entire staffs. In mind, our hope is that pastors will encourage their entire team, whether that's paid staff, whether it's key volunteers.
We are designing this conference to where everyone is going to be encouraged, equipped, strengthened together. That's what our hope is. I love it. And let's talk about your journey and why this is such a real Incarnational thing on your part because you could have, after what happened, you just called it quits, just been just gone to some, you know, absolutely different career and walked away from the faith. The opposite happened.
First of all, Pastor, tell everyone how you, real quick, we don't have a lot of time for this segment, but tell everyone kind of your testimony. You don't have to tell it all because I want them to get the book and read the details, the granular information. But give us just an overview of what kind of happened. What was going on in your life? You go on this missions trip and tell everyone kind of how you lost your sight and then what happened during and after.
Yeah, I was in my late 30s. I mean, you know, no vision issues on the radar at all. And I went to Central America to train pastors. We hiked this huge mountain called Prayer Mountain, and on the top is a Christian radio tower. And when I got to the top of that tower, blood vessels burst.
Behind my left eye. That led to two failed surgeries, and it eventually led to complete and total blindness. after about 15 months. And so that was sort of the journey. You know, it happened rapidly, but it also happened slowly.
But in my world, it felt like it was, you know, warped speed. And within 15 months, I was 100% blind. Wow.
And you kept thinking, hey, I'm going to see a specialist. I'm going to see a doctor. I'm going to have some kind of procedure. It's going to come back. Your wife's response, I know she's stuck with you.
What a godly woman. How it affected your children and how you kept preaching the word from the pulpit. What in the world? Oh, gosh. I remember when the eye doctor sat us down and he told me the likelihood is that I would go one hundred percent blind.
Of course, Sadie began crying and she was to my left. And Stu, I remember looking at her and I remember the thought being, God put me on this earth to preach I know this. And I remember I remember saying, God, How can I preach if I can't even read a Bible? And I just thought, no, no, this isn't going to happen. But as time went and God prepared me, you know, the scripture is so true.
I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. And I learned that. Wow.
So, so you know, it's kind of neat, this conference. Is maybe it's not for the healthy. Maybe it's not for the. The the folks that have it all together. I mean, if you're kind of struggling a little bit in your marriage, if you're struggling a little bit in the ministry, maybe you're kind of burning out, maybe you've thought about quitting, maybe you've thought about just getting into something else.
Why is it for that person, Pastor Chad, this unstoppable conference? If I could paint a bullseye and if I could aim straight for the target, it would be for that charge. Church leader. Who is thinking about changing careers because they don't feel like they're effective anymore? It would be for that pastor who preaches with all his heart, but feels like he's being uneffected.
Those who feel like they maybe should be doing something else. But the reality is God has called you, and it doesn't matter. Numbers don't matter. You know, what we measure as effective, it doesn't matter. What the Lord measures.
is faithfulness. What the Lord measures is holiness. And I would love to take those ministry leaders that feel so discouraged and near burnout and just breathe new life into them. Oh, that's what our prayer is. Wow.
So practically speaking, you show up what time, Friday, the 23rd of October, 2027. You show up, what time, what happens? Obviously, you get your entry kit. You get some really good goodies and some gifts, your book, which I'm excited about. And then what happens that evening?

So glad everyone's here. Pastor, how? How is your life? Different. Are you closer to God now?
Are you farther away? Are you bitter? Are you more productive? I mean, what's happened since this blindness, you were afflicted with this blindness? Give everyone a little update on that.
And I either let this grind you down. or you can let it polish you up. He said the choice is yours. And I can remember, Stu, I prayed right then and right there. And I said, God, I'm going to let this polish me up.
And I tell people today there's been far more gain than what there's been loss. And you know, I look at who I was when I had eyesight, and you know, I said, be incredibly honest with you. I was busy. And I was sinfully busy. Today, I'm productive.
Today, I'm content. Today, I'm present. If I'm with someone in a room, I'm present with them. When I'm with my family, I'm present with them. I'm present with them.
And the greatest blessing of blindness. Is I don't give my time to a phone anymore. I don't give my phone my time to a screen or a tablet or a computer. I give my time to people, and what a blessing it's been. Wow.
And you've written a book. By the way, what compelled you to write a book about your story?
Some folks have rough stuff happen. Like, I don't want to, I don't want to talk about it. Let's move on. But why would you write a book and this thing is taking off?
Well, you know, it was really intimidating when I felt like the Lord told me to write this book on suffering. I said, God, how many books have been written through the centuries on suffering? What could I possibly add to that conversation? Truthfully, I didn't want to do that. And I just felt like the Lord said, Chad, you know, what you have to share is not other people's stories or other or just sermon illustrations.
The Lord said, I have taught you things and I want you to pin them. And of course, you know, I was very adamant with the publisher and the publisher was fantastic, but I was very adamant. It's not my story. I sprinkle. Things about my story throughout it.
You know, there are aspects to it, but ultimately, it is a teaching book rooted in the pages of the Bible, and it will teach Christians how to suffer well. Wow.
Yeah, that's something. And not only have you suffered well and trusted the Lord, you're just a humble guy, a prayer warrior. You also are doing these conferences. And one conference we've been promoting to all of our listeners, wherever you are, whether you're in the Triad area of North Carolina, which is where this will be in North Carolina at Triad Baptist Church on October 23rd and 24th, the year of our Lord 2027. You speak everywhere. You just spoke at Faith Fest. What was it like speaking to 30,000 people you could even see? Uh Well, I don't think I was as nervous where I couldn't see them, but let me tell you, I was still nervous. And you know what I loved about Faith Fest?
To be behind the scenes of an event like that and to see the level of prayer, to see the focus. On the gospel of Jesus Christ. I tell you, it was not a concert, it was not an entertainment event, it was the gospel going forth. And I saw that in everything that they did at Faith Fest, they're remarkable people. Wow, well praise the Lord.
Well and it's neat to see so many folks, especially young folks coming out. This next generation, man, they're stepping up, they're getting baptized, they're growing in Christ, they're spreading God's word. And you're really calling some younger folks to this unstoppable church conference, right? I mean, is there any age restriction? And is there any kind of parameters about who's allowed to attend this thing?
Give us kind of who your sweet spot is there. Oh, yes. No, anyone who has a desire to serve and anyone who wants to be better equipped. Who wants to be more encouraged? That's who it's for.
People are going to walk away. Strengthened in their calling.
So, if you know that you're called to serve others and you're called to ministry, well, this whole thing is designed with you in mind. I love it. And so, how can they register? What's the charge for folks that want to come to this thing, Pastor?
Well, because we know everyone needs encouragement, and we know people are serving under very difficult circumstances, especially financial circumstances. I was just adamant, we're going to make it affordable. It doesn't matter what it costs us, we're going to make it affordable. And so people can register for the two-day event for only $20 person or.
Now, this is where it gets great. We want teams to come. We want key volunteers, entire staffs to come as a team. A whole team of one to 10. can come for a flat $99.

This is a very positive conference, but there is a lot of pain. There are a lot of rifts. There are a lot of folks struggling in the ministry. There are a lot of folks that are like, man, is this? I'm getting beat up, you know, whether it's by my own elders or I'm struggling with ministry.
I've been doing this all this long. I feel like I'm in the 1 Corinthians 15:58. You know, you're right, be steadfast and unmovable. You know, your work is not in vain in the Lord, but it sure feels like it sure is, there's a lot of pain. How would you encourage someone listening right now that's experiencing that pain and kind of do a little unstoppable church conference TED Talk for us right here on this radio show?
Will you? O David Jeremiah. says it so well. He says discouragement. is one of the choice weapons of the enemy.
And that's so true. And we all face it. You know, I think sometimes when we go through whatever circumstances we're going through that bring discouragement in ministry, it feels unique to us. But in reality, it's not. You know, Satan is not a creator, he can't create anything.
He is not God. He is not a creator. And what that means is, he uses the same tricks. He uses the same playbook. He uses the same deceptions that he's always used.
And the Bible shows us what those are. And it shows us how if we will equip ourselves, if we'll put on the full armor of God, if we'll strengthen ourselves, not in church. Church success. Or what we think is success, not in ministry success, not in other people. If we will strengthen ourselves in the Lord, as Ephesians 6:10 says, well, we're going to be able to fulfill our ministries.
We're going to be able to do the work of ministry. And when our strength fails, which it will, That's where Colossians 1, 28 and 29 kick in. That's where we are empowered. That's where we get our energy from God. Why?
That we may present everyone Mature in Christ. That's the goal. We want to bear fruit, but we can't do it in ourselves. We have to be connected to the vine to bear real spirit. Spiritual fruit.
I love it. And I know you cover a lot of this in your book, Blind Faith, subtitle, Seeing God Through Darkness. We're talking to a pastor who's blind. He can't, of course, he can't see my beautiful face through radio. That's probably a good thing, you know.
So we're both rejoicing about that. But Pastor Chad Roberts, author, radio broadcaster, heading up these conferences, this particular conference we're promoting today is the unstoppable church. Conference. It's coming up in October, just not even a month away. You got to get registered all ages.
Bring your whole team of leaders. Maybe you got a company. You want to bring all your folks there and bless them for $150. You know, bring 20 of them. What a deal.

How would you encourage someone listening right now? Who's literally on their last lap, and they are just about to throw in the towel. What would you say to that person?
Okay.
I would say to that precious brother or that sister, 1 Peter 4.19. Let let those of us who suffer according to God's will. And then the end of that verse, well, the rest of it says, entrust our soul to a faithful Creator. And the end of that verse says, Continue to do good. I would say, brother, sister, don't stop.
God has more for you to do. God knows exactly what he's doing in your life. And I would say. One foot in front of the other. Don't ever stop.
Keep going forward. Praise the Lord.
