This is the Truth Network. Coming up on 250 years celebrating our country. Our anniversary, a lot going on to celebrate. I want to talk about how important the Bible has been. And I want to talk to a guy whose whole passion has been the Word of God.
His ministry is date the Word. Dr. Carson? Has God's Word played a role in America in its founding and its sustenance?
Well, we can easily say yes to that because Robert Morgan has put together a book. Of 100 verses that made America. And it is one of the most phenomenal books I've ever read as he highlights the different verses that changed. developed America. Wow.
And every morning you wake up. There's a verse available from you from Date the Word. Dr. Carson's ministry, date the word.com. There's an app with a verse, you know, we listen to it.
Fella, just tell us what you said. You start your morning study, Brother Steve. We're at Wednesday in the Word here, finishing up Bible study. Tell everyone what you do. I have a quiet time, and I include Dr.
Carson's book on Date the Word. And it speaks and has a way of speaking with the other, with scripture along with the other. In another literature, of the literature that I read.
So it's right there.
So the ideas of, what is the idea of date the word for those that don't know about it?
Well, we connect today's date with a Bible verse.
So like today being 6:10, I went with 1 Timothy 6:10, where we're not to love money. And then I'll give a challenge because God's word, not God's word, but our money has a sermon on it. It says, In God we trust. It doesn't say in gold we trust.
So each day I'm connecting a Bible verse to today's date so a person can hopefully make it more memorable for them. But they can get this by going to date the word.com and read it. And if they like it, they can even download where they can get the email sent to their inbox every morning at 5:15. You've got a wonderful book. It's an amazing book with scripture all throughout devotions for every day of the year.
You've got these calendars that are loved. I've given out so many, and just to meet someone and say, hey, what's your birthday? And then find out. Larry, what's your birthday? You're one of our Western Word guys.
What's your birthday? August 7th, 1944.
Now, we didn't need a year, but I'd tell you, oh, 44, that's a big year. August 7th. Yep, August 7th.
Okay, so let's see. 8:7. Dr. Carson's got the app.
Well, I'm thinking Proverbs 8:7 might be a good one. But then Hebrews 8:7's got some stuff. But I mean, Dr. Carson, as you think about date the word, see what Dr. Carson does is he'll stick a verse on you, brother Larry.
I mean, he'll get you real good. What do you got for him? What do you got? 2 Corinthians 8:7 says, But as you abound in everything, in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in diligence, and in love for us, see that you also abound in the grace, also. And the idea of this grace is the grace of giving.
Wow. So, 2 Corinthians 8:7 abound in the grace of giving, my friend Larry.
So, that's a good verse. And this is a generous guy. He's a giving kind of guy. He's given a lot of Bible. We're having you're a Gideon.
What does that mean? Oh, that means we try to spread the word of God there in our country to get us back to biblical principles and we can start changing lives. I love that. What? Dr.
Carson. This word is so important. I just think it's very important. America needs Jesus. We desperately need the Lord.
We need to get back to the book. We need to get back to the book that got us started, because really it was their biblical principles. That, you know, not every founder was a believer necessarily, but they all recognized: hey, This is, we need a, we need God. We need Him. This is one nation under God, right?
So, Dr. Carson, speak to how important that is, and maybe tell us a story. I love that story of John Jay.
Well, you've got all these different ideas that have been presented through the years, but think about a city. On a hill. You can't hide the light.
Well, that was John Winthrop. And he gave Matthew 5:14 that America's gonna be this bright, shining city on a hill. The light's gonna shine. We're gonna be a blessing to the world. That's how John Winthrop first started out as one of the leaders of the Puritans.
And then John Jay, later on, when we get our. Declaration of Independence, we're going to get a Constitution, we're going to get a new government.
Well, we're going to have a Supreme Court and John Jay as the first. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court as a believer later on, as he's now dying. He's asked. Is there anything you would like to say to your children as you are going to be no longer with them? And he said, they have the book.
And I absolutely love that. He says, I don't need to tell them anything else. I've already shown them where do you get the wisdom you need for life. And Patrick Henry, when he was dying, he did the same thing. Matter of fact, he had a moment where he went into a coma, came back out of it, and the first thing he said was to his doctor, Dr.
Cavill, you need to be saved. Stew on Patrick Henry's deathbed. While he said, Give us liberty or give me liberty or give me death. He's now saying on his deathbed to a doctor, get the salvation that Jesus Christ offers. Is that not incredible?
And then we know about George Whitfield. There's a great movie out there, A Great Awakening. You gotta watch it going into the 4th of July.
Well, George Whitfield preaches one basic message. everywhere and that message was John 3 7 you must be born again and so as we go into our revolutionary wars we will get the Declaration of Independence 80% of Americans had heard George Whitfield preach calling them to do one thing and that was to be born again Of course, there was Jonathan Edwards, who also, impacted by George Whitfield, started preaching another message out of Deuteronomy 32. He preached Sinners in the hands of an angry God. But this. This message wasn't about just the anger of God.
He always concluded with: there's the mercy of God.
So again, phenomenal book. I highly recommend. Get Robert Morgan's book on 100 Verses That Made America. Because we are a nation that's founded on the preaching, not just founded on the Word, but the preaching of the Word of God. And you gave Robert Morgan your date to word stuff, your calendar and all that to bless him because he's a Bible guy, if there ever was one.
He's just a prolific author, great friend, great man of God. Dr. Carson, we just finished a study. It's a little loud in here because we got guys praying over there and fellowshipping and getting together because we just finished Wednesday in the Word. With this amazing fast casual food concept called Dario in North Carolina.
And we were in Nehemiah 8. You know, everything changed. Everything changed for the nation of Israel. When they brought out The book of God. And maybe that's our prayer here for our country.
The pulpits would be hot again. With the fire of God's word, because that changes everything, Dr. Carson. Give us a closing thought on that.
Well, when you come to the book of Nehemiah, it's almost like thinking about where America is today. You ask the question, where are we? And the walls are broken. We see the broken lives. But Nehemiah prayed and went to work first to restore those broken walls.
But he knew it was more than physical walls. There needed to be the spiritual walls that needed to be revived, rebuilt. And Ezra comes in, they open the Word of God, and people begin to hear what God had to say. And it's convicting, but it's also converting. And now they're embracing what God has to say.
And the thing that I love so much about the book of Nehemiah is I start reading it with great distress. But in the end of chapter 8, people in great gladness. And we as a nation can experience great gladness again if we'll embrace the great teachings of the Word of God. To be revived is to revive. Obedience to God, and that would change everything.
Yeah, you know, let's pray. Let's pray revival will come to America, but let's pray revival will come to Americans. Yes, that's right to me, to you, right? You mentioned Whitfield. Was it him or Wesley that they said, Hey, where does revival start?
Remember, they drew a little circle around themselves in the dirt, and they said, Right inside of the circle, yes, yes, draw that, draw a circle, step in, and say, Lord, revive me, and we become the change agents for our nation. Amen. Hey, date the word, give us the website. Folks want to get a daily scripture. That could be the spark of a revival in your life or someone else's life.
Hey, your kids are estranged from God. Your co-worker, man, they've never read the Bible if it hit them in the head, but they got a birthday. And you can ask them about that birthday, and you can share their birthday. Their birthday might be March 16th, 3.16. Yeah, right, Doc?
I had a young lady two days ago. That's what her birthday was. And I said John 3:16. She said Colossians 3:16 because she teaches music and she loves Colossians 3.16. But www.date the word.com.
You can also download our app, go to your app store, it's all free. Date the word, and every day there's a verse for today's date. To the top. A climb.
