This is the Truth Network. This is the Truth Network. What do you do when you're sitting with a pastor, a man of God, at a steakhouse in Lynchford, Virginia? You talk about going door to door and knocking on doors and telling people about Jesus. Pastor Jason, is this really happening?
Or is your church really doing a door knocking campaign? First of all, I'm here with Stu Epperson, author of the best-selling book, The Last Words of Jesus. Stu, it's great to have you with us today. That's a good setup. I like that better.
I like that.
So, yeah, so. 70 years ago in 1956, when Dr. Fowler planted Thomas Rhode Baptist Church, he himself visited every single door in the city of the city limits. He knocked on 100 doors a day until that. Mission was complete.
And so 70 years later, we're going to celebrate 70 years in the middle of June. Of Thomas Road Baptist Church, and we are doing the same thing. This time we're enlisting the people of Thomas Road to take a few homes on a list. Go out in the community. Knock on the door, offer prayer, no low low buying.
I'm just here to serve you. And here's a Bible. Here's some more information about Thomas Road. Here's a few links that you can check out if you have questions about issues that you're facing in life, whether it's culture or scripture or whatever it might be, family. Oh, and here's an invite back to Thomas Road.
Here's a free cup of coffee. And come to our lobby, enjoy a free cup of coffee, and join us for Easter, which is coming up, obviously.
So it's a wonderful way to reconnect with. People out in the city of Lynchburg that maybe haven't heard from us in a while, and the stories that are coming back, you might imagine that we have a few people that don't really want to hear from us, and we do. By and large, exponentially more. The stories that are coming back are amazing of life change, prayer that was needed. One lady acts, I heard this story just the other day.
One lady actually said, You won't believe this, but I was just praying in my living room that God would send somebody to my door because I just don't know where to turn. It's been really incredible. Wow, Pastor Jason, there's some history too, because going way back 70 years ago. My dad, Mixed Tu, and my grandpa helped Jerry Falwell Sr. get on the radio.
And he wanted to be on the radio early in Lynchburg on that station here, WBRG, because he wanted to leave to go knock on doors before meeting his sweet fiancé for breakfast. That's right. Those stories are amazing. And I mean, eternity will only tell the impact of that radio program that your dad was a part of and so influential in taking the gospel out all over the world. It's just incredible.
Well, Jason Schumphelder with Thomas Rode Baptist Church, and of course, Pastor Jonathan Falwell, the son of Jerry Falwell, who's pastor in there. But you're like, yeah, you're a big church and yeah, you're doing this door knocking campaign. But you have had other churches say, hey, we want to do this too. This is kind of cool. You've had a little FOMO happen.
Talk about how every church can do something like this.
Well, we have had churches reach out from across the country that have heard about this, that have watched the broadcast. You know, it's amazing the amount of other churchgoers around the country that watch our service as well, in addition to in-person at their own church. But we've had churches reach out, staff. members, members of other churches reach out and say, how did you do this? And so we're happy to share.
We have the emails that have come in. We just share the process that we did.
Now we built an app, you know, we built a back end for this so we can easily handle the logistics of it. But we're able to share all over the country. This is really happening now all over the country where churches are deciding to take back their communities. Lynchburg, Virginia, 93.7 FM. Actually, Pastor Jonathan's on, like his pops was for many years, on 93.7 FM.
And I'm up here visiting him, having lunch, and he just dropped this doorknocking campaign on me. We had to talk about it real quick, but it's a challenge to everyone. There's a bigger message here that every believer should have FOMO right now. Everybody's thinking: hey, wait a second. I have the greatest message of all time.
I have the cure to sin and eternal life in Jesus Christ, the risen Lord.
So, why? Give us a springboard from this and give us a challenge getting out here on how everyone. should be a part of reaching people wherever they are in their neighborhood. around the world, but right across the street too. You know, not everybody is wired to walk up to somebody and share their faith.
For a lot of people, it's difficult. But I'll tell you: the folks in our church that have decided to accept this challenge, to go knock on a door, the stories of life change that are happening, the prayer. The prayer services that are happening on our front porch is incredible, and these people are now hungry for more just because they took the initiative to do something that was a little bit outside of their comfort zone.
Well, thank you for what you're doing. Give us a website. Folks can learn more about what you're doing, can watch and maybe model it for their own church, and folks that want to get involved directly or support this financially, too. Yeah, you can find out about that or really anything that we do at Thomas Rohr Baptist Church by visiting trbc.org. And listen to Jonathan Falwell Live, live with Pastor Jonathan.
The weekday mornings at 7.30, the new 93.7 FM. And thank you for all you're doing, brother. And for the church, you have a church network, the pastors all over the country and the world you're helping, too. Give a shout out for that real quick, too. Nathan, we'd love to hear you plug that as well.
Absolutely, Nathan, down there in Raleigh, but the Liberty Church Network is doing some amazing things around the country. We're ramping up our efforts to plant churches locally in the communities where LCN churches and member churches are active. It's really, really incredible. And this is just the tip of the iceberg, really. It's going to be amazing.
And of course it's been around for years and years and years. It's nothing new. Dr. Fole started planting churches almost immediately. In the 50s, and those stories are great too.
The churches that still exist because of the efforts of God's vision that Dr. Follow got a hold of and started planning churches all those years ago. And we're still doing it 70 years later. It's exciting. From a steakhouse, hey, Jesus knocked on doors in Revelations 3, verse 20.
Why aren't we knocking on doors? They're doing it. Thank you for what you're doing, brother. And talking about being wired for ministry, we're going to go next to a segment I did with Jesse Connors. You think that guy's excited about evangelism?
Jesse Connors is. If Jesse is not excited about evangelism, nobody is excited about evangelism.
So, we're going to do some sharethetruthnow.com coming up. We're going to segment right into that. And here's my conversation with Jesse that we had recently. And continue to continue to share all of this wonderful content with all your friends. Use social media as a way to knock on some doors for Christ, too.
To the top. Five
