Speak your mind. And now, here's today's Truth Talk Live host.
Well, welcome to Truth Talk Live. I'm Dwayne Carson. I have a ministry called Date the Word, and today we're going to look at today's verse for the date. It says in Joel 2:27, then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel. I am the Lord your God, and there is no other.
My people shall never be put to shame. then you shall know God wants you to know Him. And on today's show, we want to spend some time. Asking and answering the question. We want to hear from you at 1-866-348-7884.
How might God be working in your life today? to make himself more known to you. How might God be working in your life right now?
So that You might be able to know more about who, He is. How many have worked in the past? We'll go there too. How might he have worked in the past in your life that brought about a great deep. Meaningful understanding of who God is.
Here's what I want you to know today. First and foremost, with our ministry, Date the Word. If you're interested in knowing what your verse for your birthday is, if you call in today, first caller, we're going to send you a Date the Word daily devotional.
So our ministry, again, every date has a Bible verse. If you go to the website, date the word.com, as soon as you open that website, you're going to see today's date. You're going to see a devotional. You can listen to the date the word moment. And I encourage you.
Go to that website, date the word.com. But if you want to know your birthday verse, you call in 866-348-7884. And as we're thinking about today, God at work in your life.
so that you can know more about him. I want you to know. That God does work. He works in your life in sometimes very mysterious ways.
So that you can know his Presence. He wants you to know his presence. But sometimes his presence is best known in some of the most darkest, difficult moments. He wants you to know his power. Uh God brought his people to um The Red Sea.
So that he could demonstrate his tremendous power. power. Uh he wants you to know his protection. And I think about the disciples when they were in a storm Um God was able to calm that storm and protect them. They were so afraid.
Remember the story? They were so afraid they were going to die. And yet as they were afraid Of the storm, they became amazed at the Savior. Um God wants you To know what he can do and who he is.
So, how might he be working in your life? This is a talk show. We want to hear from you: 866-348-7884. We've got on the line already. Uh Dave.
Hi Dave, how are you today? I'm good. How you doing, my friend? Doing wonderful. We're throwing out the question, how might God be working in your life so that you can know him better?
What's God doing in your life, Brother Dave? Hey, before I get there, real quick, I love your story about Jesus going over the lake with the disciples, and they're scared to death. And they're scared because they're in awe of what he does. They don't recognize they're in the presence of the Almighty God, the Son. And they're thinking if He can do this, He knows everything about them.
And then He goes the other side, the demoniac comes out, and who's the only one who recognizes the Lord? Who's the only one that bows down to Him? It's the demons. It's the people that say, did I want to hear, oh, what's so good? Hey, I've I've been a saved thirty eight years and God has called me to serve him.
I was a youth pastor. I'm a pastor. I'm sixty three years old. I've been living in the same town twenty-five years. And God has now called me to pack up and move four point five hours away and pastor a nice church in Tabor City, North Carolina, And we're packing everything up, leaving the daughter, the grandkids, and everything about this.
as God has confirmed each Yeah. Where there is I can't even deny it. Each step. I'm in Tabor City right now, driving four and a half hours back. to central Virginia.
I'll be I'll be moving here full time in 25 days. And I just looked at a house. It's a it's a It's a house that was owned by a former church member. He died. The son inherited it.
He wants to sell it, and he's going to sell it to me. for about 80% of the value. Wow. You cannot out give God. Mm.
And as God is working in your life, I got to believe. There's some things that he's showing you about him. That again at 63, making moves like this where God guides God. Mm-hmm. Provides.
I love that, Dwayne. Where God guides, God provides. And you're right. And I'll say this. I I am I I use this verse and people don't like me doing it, but I'm going to.
God uses the foolish things of this world to confound the wise. And if anybody knew me when I was sixteen or twenty two or even thirty, they would say, he's that foolish thing. I could never have accomplished anything that I've accomplished aside from God. And the reason he uses. foolish things like me is so He's the only one that can get the glory.
I can't glory in my sins. That's boring myself. Amen.
Someone said one time that Behind every successful man is a surprised mother-in-law.
Well Yeah. Yeah, yeah, I would agree with that. Find every successful man of God. Yes, sir. person being used by God is this World that is surprised with how could God have ever used them?
He takes ordinary people, does extraordinary people things. No one, no one picked David. Remember that story in 1 Samuel? That's who you're named after. In 1 Samuel, hey, I got to go pick a king.
Goes to Jesse's house. There's it. Nope, that's not the one.
Well. Did you not get all your sons here? God told me that your son is going to be the next king. No one's thinking about him, but God took the ordinary and did the extraordinary.
So, yes, God takes that foolish. Not even dad thought about bringing little David. Surely he's gonna take one of our tall, strong sons. Yes. Um you thinking about thinking about David.
Um I um Yeah. He wrote a psalm, Psalms 23. The Lord is Is he my shepherd? When we come back from the break, I want to know when did Psalms 23 move from being the Lord as a shepherd to the Lord as my shepherd? This is Trade Talk Live, and we're talking today about how God makes Himself known to you.
We need your calls. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Welcome back to Truth Talk Live. I'm Dwayne Carson. Our ministry is Date the Word.
And if you would like to know, A Bible verse for your birthday. My birthday is 1223. 1 Samuel 12:23, where Samuel says, God forbid that I should sin against you by ceasing to pray for you and to teach you the right way. It's a verse that anybody who wants to be a discipler is going to have that as a key verse. And 12:23, 1 Samuel 12:23.
If you call in today and ask me to tell you your birthday verse, I'll send you our new date the word daily devotional. It's brand new this year. We'll send it to you. And give us a call, 866-348-7884 as we are moving. To the end of this week, into the weekend, the challenge from Joel 227 for 227.
then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel. I am the Lord your God. There is no other. God wants you to know Him, and He wants you to know Him so desperately. That he works at making sure you do get to know him.
And so, my question is: how might God be working in your life today? To make himself more known to you, how may God have worked in your life in the payest. Um I've talked on this before, taught on this. We're looking at learning about who God is. And sometimes we learn things about God.
through difficulties. I I I phrased it this way.
Sometimes I've learned about God in ways that I wished I didn't have to.
Sometimes I learn about God. Through discipline. Uh his love. And you might have a story about how God showed his great. Unconditional love for you through a situation in which he disciplined you.
Whom the Lord loves, he chastens, he disciplines, he rebukes. And there were been a number of times I said, Lord, you don't have to love me quite as much as you love me. Um, But he showed his great love because he didn't want me to continue in disobedience. He did not want me to continue in a path that was going to bring about destruction. And I can look back and see how much he loved me by allowing me to go through a period of discipline and having someone rebuke me so that I did not make horrible, horrible decisions, would not be on that path to destruction.
You might have a story like that. You might have a story about when Psalm 23 really took hold. It's easy to say, the Lord is my shepherd, but many times we really are thinking. The Lord is a shepherd. But then something happens in your life.
And all of a sudden you find That he is who he said he is. The Lord is a shepherd, and now as he works in your life, you claim. The Lord is my shepherd. Um Uh I have a number of stories Through my life of getting a better understanding of God, that didn't come from a textbook, it didn't come from a sermon, but the real life experience. My mom would die when I was 28 years of age.
She was 56, died of a sudden heart attack. And um I it was just devastating. All of a sudden mom was gone. And um Uh I was not a happy camper. I was having some moments like Jacob where he's screaming at God, you have bereaved me.
I was just not happy that my mom had passed away. And God's gentle spirit. Um Bringing comfort to my heart, said, Not only am I here with you, I'm near the brokenhearted. Psalms 34:18, I'm near the brokenhearted, I'm right here with you. And I experienced a presence with God that I've never known before.
But then he brought forth the thought. Um I want to use this. You can be a much more effective Pastor. By having your heart comforted by me.
So that you can then comfort others. And that's 2 Corinthians chapter 1, verse 4. And so I learn things about God. Through just a very painful experience. And um So I'm telling my story, one of many, but I want to hear yours, 866-348-7884.
I'm just believing right now God's placed it on someone's heart. I need to tell how God worked in my life in the past, where I got a much deeper understanding of Him, of His grace, His love. Maybe He's working right now. Give us a call here, 1-866-348-7884. I will tell you that one of the greatest moments for God to work in people's lives is through the death of one of his saints.
And it may not even be a death of one of his saints because Ecclesiastes 7 says that the funeral home is like a schoolroom. The house of mourning is a place of wisdom, and we are brought to an understanding about the brevity of life. And I have, I've been to funerals, I've conducted funerals of those that are lost, but it's always much more enjoyable to do that funeral of someone that's saved, to be able to talk about how God had been preparing a home for them. But it reminds us of the brevity of life. And so there's lessons to be learned so that we can be better prepared to live life to its fullest.
You're just curious? How's God working in your life right now? And Joel, Joel wrote, Then you shall know. That I am in the midst of Israel. I am the Lord your God.
God wants us to know Him. He wants us to know His presence. He wants us to know His power. He wants us to know His protection. You know what he wants us to know?
He wants us to know his peace. And in a world that is just chaotic, so many things going on, so many things to worry about. When you set your mind on him, Isaiah 26:3, you will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you because he trusts in you. And sometimes when those storms start hitting and the wind's blowing, the rain's falling, the waves are crashing. It's time to fix the mind on the Lord.
And then you begin to realize not just his presence, not just his power. But he has incredible Peace. Um And then there's the story again of God likes to show us that He can provide. that that as as He says, I want you to do this, and you're wondering, how in the world will he do this? How am I going to be able to accomplish what he wants me to do?
The funds are lacking. The resources, we just don't have them. And yet he said, take the step of faith. And you know, college students, so many times God has said, I want you to, and you're like, I just don't know how. I had a young man.
who believed that God wanted him to go on a mission trip to China. And um He looked at the cost, and it was $1,600 to go for one week, and it was. $3,200 to go for three weeks. Um He just didn't know how he could do it. And so he came to me and he said, Pastor, what if I ask every student to give me $1?
And I said, you know, the Lord just might raise up enough money for you to do that. Where God guides, God provides. We're going to go to a break. We need your calls: 866-348-7884. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com.
Worry Welcome you back to Truth Talk Live. I'm Dwayne Carson. Um Date the word is our ministry. And if you've ever wondered where that idea came from, date the word came from. Stu Epperson Jr., as I was having coffee with him one day, I just asked him when his birthday was, and he told me October the 16th.
And I told him he should check out Judges 10:16, Matthew 10, 16. I told him that Judges 10, 16, when the Israelites got rid of their idols, God relented of his judgment and that God would bless him if he'd get rid of his idols. And Matthew 10, 16, God says, I'm going to send you out as a sheep among wolves. You've got to be wise as a serpent. You got to be harmless as a dove.
And as I did that, he said, what did you do? I said, I have a verse for every date. And he said, get the domain name date the word. Because you want people to know more than just a... Date.
You want people to know The word. And so to date is to get to know. And so today, as we're wrapping up this week with Truth Talk Live, we're looking at Joel chapter 2, which is Joel 2:27, which is coming right from the date, the word daily devotion. And it's telling us that God wants us to know Him. How might God Be revealing himself to you right now or in the paeus where he made himself known to you.
We've got. Our good friend Mike From Dayton. Hi, Mike. How are you, sir? I'm doing great.
I like what you said, how when God guides, God provides. I really like that. you know, I'm getting ready to go in uh on the boot camp in in March and You know, uh, I got to take off uh three, four, or five days of work. And, you know, that's a lot. I got to drive nine hours down to North Carolina or wherever it is.
And uh And And you know, gas money and and and you know, all that stuff going back and forth. Um You know, and and I'm like going, Okay, this doesn't look like it's gonna fit in my budget, you know. Um and my wife is saying the same thing, you know, it might, this is a lot of money. And And I totally agree with her, but I said, Oh, God really wants us to go. He wants me to go.
I can feel it in my heart and feel it in that. And um I I just did a job with a Christian man And he made his kitchen. He was very happy. And he said, I also need a mantle gun, which was. You know, I wasn't expecting that to come through.
uh expecting extra money and He gave me to do a fireplace mantle and to you know to stain and finish a car. I'm a cabinet maker. And I made his kitchen and now I'm gonna get ready to do his fireplace mantle. And that amount of money is going to really, really push us over the top. To get there.
And, you know, I was praying to God. I said, God, you know, we could take it from our savings. We could take it from there. But, God, you want us to be stewards with our money. And, you know, help me, you know, help me here.
Provide for me, God. And I I know that you want me to go there. And As soon as I prayed, that prayer God provided. And, you know, that. That is awesome, you know how God does that.
He's done that all my life. He's done this all my life. He's guided me on every situation all my life. When you deny yourself and say, God, where do I need to go? But Um He he makes a way.
Um, he just does, and especially if that's his will, you know. That's about it, Dr. Carson. I'm sorry. No, this is excellent.
I mean, that's what we're talking about today. And your journey to this man camp that you're going to be challenged so much to just go to that next level of serving him and living for him, being the man of God that God wants you to be, has already begun because part of the journey, that destination, how did God provide for you to get there? And when I worked with college students, we would talk about you need to evaluate your experiences. Because if God can provide the hundred dollars you need He'll provide the $10,000 you need. The $1 million you need because you're going to have opportunities to do things for him.
And there are going to be numbers out there that, you know, Dr. Falwell would talk about sometimes we need $5 million. He said one time we needed $50 million. I'm like, Who makes a prayer request for $50 million? Jerry Falwell does.
And I literally have it written in my Bible where he told us one day: I want you to write down two prayer requests. One, pray for the pastor to have wisdom, and two, $50 million.
Well, at some point early in Dr. Falwell's life, he had had to ask God for $25. And now he's asking God for 50 million. Just believing. God's going to provide.
What is needed so that his work goes forward and we grow our faith. And I just love it. I know God wants me to go to a place that's going to sharpen me. Yeah, it's going to cause me to think about things that need to be even more removed from my life so that I can be the best vessel possible. But, God, I don't have the money.
And so, you've already got a great story of how. The Lord is the great provider. Mike, thank you for calling. I have a little add-on to that. Yes, sir.
Well, the devil is a liar. You know, he's a liar. He wants to lie to you. He wants to. He he doesn't want you to to How can I say that?
God said he would provide for you, he would take care of the birds of the air. You've said this before. you know And got, you know, when if you're out there and you're you're you're struggling, Just, you know, just trust in God. Listen to God, pray. Read your Bible.
Seek him and he'll come through to you. I guarantee it. I mean, I guarantee it. I want to hear a testimony next time about somebody that listened to what I just said. Yes.
You know what I mean? I really believe that God cares about you. and m more than you care about yourself. And um I just really believe that. It's in the Bible, it's all through the Bible.
You know, God has cared for all his saints all through the Bible. You know, even when we doubted him, he still come through for them. You know, there's that great hymn, Does Jesus Care? And uh, when you're going through that dark Night, the grief, it's so hard you can hardly bear it. But then that songwriter cries out, Oh, yes, he cares.
I know he cares. And it's in those dark, difficult moments He just comes through with a presence that cannot be. Cannot be earthly explained, can it? There's a peace that passes all understanding. But as a believer, you go through those times and you learn about.
how he does care for us. You reminded me of something, Mike. I'm going to throw this out to you and to our listeners. You know, we're getting close to spring and the birds are starting to move. Just the other day, I call this an investment in fueling my faith.
I have to be feeding the birds. I have a bird feeder, and a little while ago, I looked out and I saw five cardinals. And they're eating, and I'm like, God, you use me to take care of them, which reminds me, you take care of me. I think everybody ought to have a bird feeder. And um You got to fuel your faith.
And when you see those birds eating, and God said, I've got my eye on them. God's got his eye on us. He never takes it off. Our church just the the city of Kettering just said, hey, we got a bunch of need and we need people are hungry in our in our city. in our church our church was used by them.
And we had These little bags that had um food in them and you they give you a list in the bags and it was a bag and you had to go to the store and you buy these ba uh a list of bags. And there was a hundred of them and a hundred or two hundred of them. And our church filled all those bags. You know, that's what we need to do as believers. We need to feed the birds, we need to help each other.
And we need to pray for each other. You know what I mean? And you don't know when you gave that bag with food in it, nutritional food in it. where someone had prayed that very morning, Lord. Give us Give to me this day my daily bread.
Yeah. And you know, and then that gets them closer to God and trusting God and believing in God. and no wanting to do Uh everything wholeheartedly forgot. I mean, that means work hard for God, do everything hard for God. You know, God doesn't, you know, bless people who doesn't want to just put their hand out.
God wants to bless people who wants to serve him and believe in him and work hard for him, you know, and no matter what you're doing, you know. If it's picking up trash out front of the building, do the best you can. And guess what? God will bless you. He will bless you because you're doing it unto him and not unto man.
You know what I mean? And you get those surprising answers like, here you are. already working on a job when a man says, Hey, buddy, uh Can I ask you to do something else for me? Unexpected blessing. Yes, unexpected plus.
Well, we need other callers at 866-348-7884. I always love talking with you, Mike. And man, I tell you, you guys are going to have a great time with that man camp. I can't wait. I hope I've been, you know, praying and fasting.
That's what God tells you to do when you're expecting something from Him. You know what I mean? So, sir. Thank you, sir. God bless.
Have a blessed afternoon. We're looking for your call. How is God working in your life? How is he making himself known? 866-348-7884.
We're going to be going to a break. I want you to be a blessing to someone else. Telling your story, how God made Himself more known to you. This is Truth Talk Live. Truth talk line.
You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Welcome back to Truth Talk Live. Today we are looking at a verse from Joel. Joel chapter 2 verse 27. It's 227.
Then you shall know that I am in the midst of Israel. I am the Lord your God, and there is none other. My people shall never be put to shame. In the book of Joel, chapter 2, God is letting his people know he wants them to know him, and God wants you to know him, and he uses. A whole lot of different ways to make himself known.
You know, if you just go out at night and look into the skies, the heavens declare the glory of God. It's one of my favorite things to do in the early evening: just to go out and see those bright stars.
Sometimes he uses storms. And it's difficult, it's scary, but he reveals his power and his presence to you.
Sometimes he's going to use a situation in your life, listen, so that you can make him known to others. Paul, as he evaluated his difficult situations, said the things that have happened to me have happened for the furtherance of the gospel.
So, I guess I'm trying to challenge you to be in tune. What is God trying to reveal to you about himself, but also how may he be using something in your life?
So that you can share more about him with someone else. He uses circumstances in your life to. to create a payeth.
so the gospel can go forth. We want to hear your stories, 866-348-7884. How might God right now be working in your life? To reveal himself to you in a greater, deeper, more meaningful way. We've got on the line right now, John.
Hey, John, how are you doing, sir? Man, I am doing great, Dwayne. How are you doing, brother? I'm doing phenomenal, and I'm recognizing this voice. This is John Whaley.
He's with a ministry called Rooftop Ministry. It's a soul-winning ministry like none other. And, John, you were just at Liberty University, you might still be there. They had a thing last night as they participated and led others in the collegiate day of prayer. And I'm just wondering.
How did God reveal himself to you and to others at that great event?
So, how long do we have? Oh, my goodness. I'm still at liberty. As a matter of fact, I'm in the Freedom Tower. I'm looking out over the campus as I'm talking to you right now.
Yeah, last night was a collegiate day of prayer, which most people don't realize is one of the oldest days of prayer in the history of our nation. Liberty University was the site for this year's global broadcast, and so. It was broadcast all over the world. Millions watched it. Um and just an amazing, amazing opportunity.
um to to come together and join with 7,000 Gen Zs. And but how did God reveal himself I'll tell you one of the ways he revealed himself, and you're sitting in a place, Dwayne. Weird. seven thousand Gen Z's who are also Liberty students. and their passion for prayer.
And God reminded me again. of just you know when I when I prayed with some of these students their authenticity. just hearing them pray, reminding us that God is a God He was relational. He's here. He's present.
We don't have to fill it with flowery words. to approach him. We just have to be real because he's our father. We're his children. But last night, just seeing God move across the Vines Center and And just seeing all the worship All the times we broke up into prayer huddles and just the presence of God was just truly amazing.
Yeah. As you say some of those things, for our listeners who may have never been to Liberty, the Vine Center used to be the basketball arena, seats about 7,000, 8,000 comfortably. We used to, with a lot of chairs on the floor, you could get all the way up to 10,000, but to have that many in there. Um This is a place where chapel, convocation takes place, Wednesday night church takes place.
Some of my greatest memories took place in that room. God just moved in a mighty way. And so as you're talking about that, for our listeners, this has been a place where basketball at one time was being played, volleyball was being played there, but now it's really dedicated to being a worship center. And last night, I love what you said. I had pulled that up, and I was going to tell that, that this collegiate day of prayer, this isn't something new.
This collegiate day of prayer, talk about a nation that has been wanting God from its very beginning. What I have here is that the first collegiate day of prayer, a concert of prayer for college students, began in 1823. Exactly. Not 1923, not 2023. 1823, there have been people like you, like me, who've been wanting to see college students know the Lord and just fall more in love with Him.
Yeah, really it really is the birth out of the great awakenings. And it began really at the Ivy League schools. And it went on for um a number of years and then there was a lull. and about fifteen years ago, Um Tai Lam and some others came together. and reversed it and be and and and began again But then Asbury would happen.
In 2023. And the year before. Collegiate Day of Prayer had chosen Asbury for the final night. for the that last Thursday of February. Not knowing that God was about to do something on that campus.
And so when they did the Collegiate Day of Prayer broadcast, In February of twenty twenty three at Asbury, which was their final gathering. after being in revival and the movement of God for all those weeks. over a billion there was over one billion with the B views on TikTok. Hello. And that has now taken It leads you to the day of prayer to a whole new level.
Mm-hmm. No telling how many millions we had in countries all over the world that tuned into last night. And uh it is um And you know, when we're living in a season, Dwayne, you know. Whatever. We're seeing God move across this generation in ways we have prayed for.
And they're the ones actually now leading the way. Um in revival in a awakening their hunger. Their desire to be discipled. Their passion for Jesus, their passion for prayer. Because what happened last night when we finished at 10 p.m.
Liberty University every week has 24 hours of prayer nonstop with students. And so last week we finished last night we finished at ten PM Eastern time. But then there was wait. we're still in the middle of the twenty four hours of not of prayer.
So the Vine Center became the chapel for the next two hours. The students stayed to continue praying until midnight. to finish up the twenty-four hours of prayer.
So yeah, so it's a very good question. It's an amazing event. Um and so How God has rebirthed the Ecclesia Day of Prayer, and it's all a part of this incredible movement of God we're seeing among the Yeah. Um Yeah. There's just something About God's people Setting aside time.
And it does, it takes time. to seek the face of God. And when you see the face of God, you know more about who God is. What I have found, John, is you can't help but want to make God more known. And that's part of the revival.
Revival stirs us up. To get back to doing go and make disciples of all the nations and your ministry, as we do run tight on time, but I would love for you to tell our people and listeners about your ministry. Yes, so the the rooftop is a global Um disciple making ministry. Understand we talk about disciple making The initial part of disciple making is evangelism. You have to disciple people to Jesus before you can disciple people in Jesus.
Amen.
So we are a ministry based on Acts 10, Peter's rooftop encounter with God in Joppa. And in that encounter is when Peter receives a fresh vision in God's heart for the lost. and began evangelizing the Gentile world. which had not been evangelized yet. And so the whole heart of our ministry is helping people begin to get a fresh vision of God's heart for the lost people around them.
and then challenge them to go out beyond the walls of their buildings and comfort zones to engage people with the gospel. as they make disciples who make disciples. and they can go to therooftop.org. And the rooftop.org and find out more about that. Straight.
When I first learned about this ministry, I just fell in love with it. And again, we need things that will cause us to have our hearts broken. And again, the prayer movement. It's it prayer is not a waste of time. Prayer is seeking to know God more.
