Welcome to Truth Talk Live. All right, let's talk the truth news. I can't hide it. I can hold it in the morning. A daily program powered by the Truth Network.
This is kind of a great thing, and I'll tell you what. Where pop culture, current events, and theology all come together. Speak your mind. And now, here's today's Truth Talk Live host. Wisdom still speaks.
Loud and clear. Yeah. It certainly does. And how do you tune into that wisdom? You know, what is...
Your proverb that that you just Have in your pocket for the moments that God has given you that you've, you know, we're both celebrating, Dr. Date, the word cars to myself today. This is the 31st of. Of July, and we're going into another month that has 31 days, right? And it's a celebration because we know what, Doctor?
We know that tomorrow offers an opportunity to dive into the treasure chest of wisdom called Proverbs. And for me, because I was a campus pastor, I'm always looking for how to get students heavenly wisdom. And so, as they're thinking about coming back to school, starting college, you've got so many kids getting ready to go to high schools, different levels now. Hey, read one chapter a day out of the book of Proverbs. And I just, I do, I get excited about a new opportunity to hear from God His wisdom.
On life. Right. And so we thought it'd be fun today, like, yeah, to hear your stories, right? That proverb that God gave you, maybe by doing just what Dr. Carson is talking about, that you went through a book of Proverbs every day in a season, or maybe you still do it today.
And there's something that, man, he gave you this wisdom, and boy, did it pay off. 866-348-7884, 866-348-7884. Maybe you're like me and you have been in business, and the doc can tell you exactly where it's at, but I could just remember it was my pocket proverb that with many counselors, plans succeed. And so often when I faced a struggle in my business, You know, clearly, I would think about the Bible and I would pray. But another thing is, I had four, five, six go-to.
business people Yeah. Godly business people that I trusted, one of which being my good friend Stu Epperson. You know, because We've been friends for years and years and years. And that would be one of the phone calls that I'd make about what do you think about this? And it was kind of like that pocket proverb that I just had at my disposal.
Well, I know you have one. You know, maybe.
Well, I'm not going to give you. You call us 866-348-7884. 866-348-7884. It says in Proverbs 3:13, right? Blessed is the one who finds wisdom and who gains understanding.
So let's bless somebody today. Share the wisdom that God shared with you. Because there could be somebody that's out there and every day they go through the same kind of thing, and they would love to have your pocket proverb: 866-348-7884. Sadak you got a few pocket proverbs, I'm sure. You know, there are if I'm Trying to remember, like, there's 915 verses in Proverbs.
Now, not every one of them is a specific proverb. There's some of those chapters that, like chapter 7, builds on you living a life of purity. But of these 915 verses, we're going to get so many different aspects of life that Solomon says, I've been there. I've done this. I want my children, my son is one of the favorite terms used there.
That he said, I don't want you to make the same mistakes. I've been there, I've done it. If you will do the opposite of what I did, like, you don't get your fingers burned. I've already had my hand on the hot stove. And so these proverbs are to help us think through what are the consequences.
Of our choices. And it's not a proverb, proverb, but our choices always have consequences. You make your choice, and then your choice makes you. That's one of those proverbs we'd use. But yeah, I've got.
Well, anyway, it it even relates to Proverbs 1 and verse 2, right? Which talks about. To gain wisdom, but then it says instruction, and many verses, you know, Bibles will translate that word instruction. But when you really look at that word carefully, you're going to see that that word has to do with a type of discipline, a type of bond as it's used in other places in the Bible, that you're bound to something. But interestingly, it has this connection to almost like gravity.
And I don't know if you ever thought about this. I like to think about it: that gravity not only holds you up, it holds you down. And that discipline does something very similar to that. Yes. Right?
You know, especially if you just think about it through either exercise or eating is just practical examples of like. If if you're Mm-hmm. experience discipline through how you eat then also also obviously it gives you free amazing freedom to wear clothes that you would like to wear, to go places, to to be able to experience certain things because you feel better. There's the cross section. When there is discipline, it leads to freedom.
But freedom without discipline Usually brings discipline. And so you want to have the right disciplines in your life. And that word discipline can be thought of many times as negative because I have to discipline my children or I got disciplined by my dad. But this is the idea of spiritual exercise, a training that you do. And Paul told Timothy to exercise yourself toward godliness.
Well, you discipline yourself toward godliness. Godliness, you do the spiritual disciplines, and that's what wisdom right off the bat is: is teaching us how to do the things that are going to bring about the godly life. And that's always good. And that's why wisdom is more valuable Than any revenue we could ever have. More valuable than rubies, more valuable than gold, more valuable than silver.
The greatest advice we could give anyone listening right now is read and digest these proverbs from the treasure chest of wisdom. And you might be thinking, wait a minute, guys, where's Jesus in this?
Well, here, this is a beautiful thing. I don't know if you ever put it together, but it's a beautiful thing to know that the book of Proverbs says. that wisdom is the tree of life.
Well, who is the tree of life? I mean, if you begin to see this, that you'll see that wisdom is clearly this idea of And I like the idea of a pocket proverb. Jesus is in your heart, right? And this idea of. He was the one anointed in Isaiah chapter 11 with wisdom and understanding and counsel and might and all those things.
And so here we have a chance to really turning to wisdom is literally, as Jesus told us in the Last Supper: remember me. Right? And and remember and think You know, there's something outside of yourself that can really, really help you, and it is Jesus. And he's there through the Holy Spirit pointing his words back out to you. And he's called wisdom in 1 Corinthians.
So Jesus is our wisdom, and the wisest decision any person will ever make. Is receiving Jesus as their Savior. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. You have that reverence for God. I begin to understand He's right.
I'm not right. I can get right, but only by going to Jesus Christ. I think there's two proverbs that say the same thing that are very, very telling. There's a way that seems right unto man. But the end thereof is death.
Proverbs 14, 12, Proverbs 16, 25. And the world that I grew up in was the world of there's a way that seems right to me. The way he knows he's right. and it was leading me to death. And when I got on a journey going forward with the Lord, it was Proverbs that really changed.
The direction of my life because I start seeing, boy, that was stupid. I can't believe I was doing those things. And then, yeah, a lot of things were sinful. And Proverbs is trying to help us, don't be stupid, don't be sinful. How about you?
Maybe, you know, I know a lot of folks had pastors that said, hey, do try this. Read a book of Proverbs every single day, a chapter of Proverbs, excuse me, every single day. As we have 31 days, again, that we're celebrating in July and going into August, which also has 31 days. We would love to hear how that impacted you. 866-348-7884.
Maybe you didn't apply this wisdom. You didn't have that impact. 866-348-7884. What is your pocket proverb? Where do you?
You know, the one that just pops out. That you think about and how has that impacted your life? Maybe in a bad way. Maybe you chose not to apply that wisdom and later on you went, oh man, was that right? We would love to hear your story.
You still know how you might impact a lot of people out there listening. 866-348-7884, 866-348-7884. Some of us were really, really blessed to have Gary Chapman as our assistant pastor at Calvary for years and years. And almost, I can't tell you how many times I've heard him preach on the idea of there are 31 chapters in the book of Proverbs. It lines up beautifully.
Yeah. with this idea of reading uh a chapter In Proverbs, you know. That matches the date. That matches the date. And so, you know, and beautifully, if you're like me and you are just.
And f just think that Proverbs thirty-one is beyond Understanding, like just beyond cool. And I don't know if you knew it's an acrostic to go with that, which makes it even deeper to understand from my perspective. And That you know, talks about a virtuous woman, which when you really put that in the context, um, from my perspective. That we all are the bride of Christ. And so the Proverbs 31 woman, to some extent, is the church.
Yeah. And when you look at that picture, you know, we all kind of hopefully are going to say yes to the dress at some point in time. And so, you know, it's kind of neat for me to sit there and go, okay, you know, there's an Aleph verse. That's a first letter in the Hebrew alphabet, Aleph Bet. And you can look at these things in this particular order like you could the 119th Psalm.
And it adds a structure to it that just the richness of it. The point I'm making here, I guess, is you could read these things, and we will for eternity and never begin to plumb the depths of them. That's it. That's it. You know, I've been walking with the Lord now 40 years, and I go back to a discipler that challenged me to read through Proverbs, like we're talking about, one chapter a day.
I came to Liberty, and it was just drilled by Dr. Jerry Falwell. Read one chapter a day. You've got to get this wisdom from God. And it's life-changing.
And here I am getting ready to do this again. And I know I'm going to see verses. I'm going to hear about words that. How come I haven't seen this before? And this book just continually pours out the richness of God's insights for living.
And that's why we're going to be able to do that. It'll be a great topic for a show. I mean, a great title for a show. Insight for Living. Yes.
That's what it's called Chuck Swindola. Oh, yeah. What do you think? What do you think, Chuck? Insights for Living.
Yeah, that's beautiful. But I know that this is sparking something in you. We need to hear from a caller. 866, the number to call. And it's simple.
You just dial it, and we're going to have a lot of fun when you get here. 866-348-7884. 866-348-7884. There's something that God has given you. Maybe somebody passed it along to you to memorize, and it's just something you think about frequently.
And you've had a chance to experience the positive side of it if you're like me. And I told you earlier about with many Counselors' plans succeed. I can tell you about the ones that I did on my own, and they failed miserably. And so you kind of learn the hard way that, man, Solomon knew, you know. I forget how do you get good judgment and bad judgment?
I think I've heard that said. And he had the experience. Yeah, uh the advice of Proverbs is get advice. And uh who who makes up your uh counselors, the multitude of counselors, the board of directors, before major decisions, who am I going to consult so that I can hear what they have to say with my best interest in mind? That's the idea.
They're not sitting there going, I need you to do this because this will benefit me. They're looking at your life and they're saying, okay, you ought to do this because this is what's going to be best for your relationship with the Lord. And best for the kingdom. And so I loved what you were talking about before the show: that if you were on, if you wanted to be a millionaire. Yes.
You know, if you want to be a millionaire, what do you get, Doc? You gotta have a lifeline. You gotta have that lifeline. And that's why, again, we go back to friends, right? More than a TV show.
Proverbs talks about what is a great friend. And a friend sharpens one another. Proverbs 27:17, iron sharpens iron. That's what a good friend does. And so, if you're cultivating good friends, then comes that moment of.
I'm facing a big decision. What do you think? And I've had several calls this week and a privilege that people felt like they could call me and ask, hey, Pastor, what do you think I should do? What's your thinking on this? And they're just practicing proverbs.
They really are. It's the phone a friend and sort of lifeline all in the same package. It really is. And maybe you've had an example of where somebody called you like that. Even today, somebody called you like that that was in a tough spot and they realized that you had some godly counsel in the past or something like that and they phoned you along those things.
What an honor it is, really, that God allows us to take part in what he's doing.
So I'm trying to think, there was phone a friend and clearly a lifeline. What was the third one? You can call in and tell us 86694878848. I don't remember. There were three things that you could get, phone a friend and lifeline, but there were three of them.
No. I don't remember what the other one was, but somebody will. We we need a callers. We do. Eight six six three four eight seven eight eight four and and and You know, I can remember um We did this land and rescue show on it, and Sam Hicks was the pastor.
It was Dashborough Baptist Church at the time. I was assistant pastor. He did this. Like every Wednesday he'd say, Okay, today, this is the date we're gonna this is where we're going in Proverbs. And he would read that chapter on Wednesday nights 'cause th that was just his practice.
That was a great practice. It's getting God's wisdom before people. You know, wisdom is defined from the Hebrew, heavenly insight for earthly living. This is seeing God's perspective on life. Again, there's a way that seems right to man, but the end thereof is death.
Is there a way for life? And the word life is used 125 times in the book of Proverbs. It wants you to have life. He uses another word a whole lot, and you told me that there's no buts about it. There's no buts about it.
You're going to find 289 buts in the book of Proverbs. Because the way a proverb is going to be conveyed is one of the best ways is through a contrast.
So look at life this way, but here's another way to look at it. He who walks with wise men will be wise. But... A companion of fools will be destroyed. That's Proverbs 13, 20.
Yeah, so apparently we phoned a friend because I think somebody's calling in. And then maybe they're going to share the one we're missing. Maybe you want to call in. 866-348-7884. 866-348-7884.
And then there's a few do nots. Oh, about seventy of them. And you got to always remember this. God's Word's not a killjoy. I loved what Adrian Rogers says.
When God tells you to do something, He's saying help yourself to happiness. When He tells you not to do something, He's telling you not to hurt yourself. Sin always harms a person. Right, because in his presence is fullness of joy.
So if he's telling you, do not, then obviously he's looking towards your joy.
So that Mike is in Dayton, Ohio, and you have a comment. Right before the break. But meanwhile, do you know what the third one is on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? There was Lifeline. Phone a friend, what's number three?
Come on now. I don't know. You got another. We got to phone a friend.
Somebody phone a friend. We need to phone a friend to find out number one. Number three is 866-348-7884. Give us a call. Dot com.
Welcome back to True Talk Live. Today's question... What is your Pocket Proverb. What is your go-to? What is it that you've gotten from studying the book of Proverbs that really has just come through for you in your life?
Or maybe you did the opposite and you saw the example of what happens when you don't do that. We actually are so blessed to have both Mike and Angela from Ohio, but we'll get to Angela in a minute because we didn't get a chance to finish with Mike about the time the break came.
So, Mike, how about you? And Proverbs. Yeah, um, I like Proverbs three f Three, five, and six. And Um, kind of lived with that over my lifetime. My wife's calling, sorry if you hear the beeping.
Um Right before there, there's a couple scriptures. It says: write it on your heart and wrap it around your neck so you can have esteem with men. Um You know I can't do that. Mm-hmm. Proverbs 3, 4 and 6.
3-5 and 6. 3-5 and 6. Excuse me. Why didn't I say that? But nonetheless, share it, Mike.
Yeah, for God so loved the world, he gave his only John 3:16. I'm nervous at that.
Sorry. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways, acknowledge him, and he'll make your path straight. That's right. Yeah.
I can remember the ones, it's verse three and four. Let not mercy. And truth forsake you, blind. them around uh my brain is working my brain blind them around your neck yes and write them in your heart of your tablet of heart yes you write them in your heart of your the tablet of your heart yeah um Yeah, right. I like that.
Write it on your heart. and and I gotta wrap them around your neck so it can go down to your heart. And uh you know um And then that way you have esteem and favor with men and God. Have you ever had an example of leaning on your own understanding? Yeah all my life, yeah.
Yeah, that's a tough thing to lean on. Yeah. That's what I'm saying: is that the interesting thing about these is that they have the positive when you use them. Yeah. But then, you know Like we talk about, that when we d we do lean on our own understanding, we just go back and go, Oh, yeah, it.
lean not on my own understanding and 'Cause you know Um Somehow or another, I end up with my foot in my mouth quite often. As the case may be, Mark, thank you, as always. Great wisdom. We appreciate it, buddy. God bless you.
All right, God bless you. We have Angela in Tip City, and she's got a tip for you. Ohio, Angela, you have your own problem. Go ahead. Yes.
Hi. I had just heard recently that people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. And it just resonated in my spirit with the Holy Spirit, how the work of Christ is that He loved us so much that His his love ran red every drop and that care, you know, that's There's that bore witness with me when I heard the gospel. And that's what that's what made me say yes. to Jesus and open up my heart to him was that the Holy Spirit bore witness that it was true that Christ cared to the, you know, Last drop of his sinless blood, he took it for our sins, and that bore witness with me.
And so. That just I heard that recently, and that's just been the Holy Spirit working that out in my life to sh to. To allow his work of love, you know, to continue to flow through me to others. and not bear witness in their life. That You know, of who Jesus is.
That's so beautiful, Angela. I can't tell you. But fascinatingly, the Spirit. You know, we all have the same spirit and it's fascinating how God Is working on similar things in our life. And I have to tell you that the man sitting across from me, date, Dr.
Date, the word Carson. Gave a sermon on this very subject. I was thinking, as you were talking, Dr. Carson, you've got to be thinking, man, I can't believe this. This past Sunday at a church preached on Does Jesus Really Care?
And did 1 Peter 5, verse 7, cast all your cares upon him? And that's enough. Because.
Well, the state that should be enough. But Peter wanted to make sure because he knew how the devil works to bring doubts. And so he writes, because he cares for you. And I broke my sermon down based off of who is the... He and what's his characteristics?
How's he described? And he's a compassionate God. He's a God that answers prayer. And he's a God that helps and he heals. And He cares so much, as you just said, he actively gets involved.
To bring about the healing we need. And the greatest healing we needed was a healing from sin. And so he sent his son to die for us. And you can't. I love the quote you used there: people don't care how much you know until they know how much you care.
And how much does Jesus care? Wow, enough to die for us. What a savior. You know what's fascinating about that for me, Angela? It's a couple things.
You know, I used to be a car salesman. For those who know, I'm the Christian car guy. And car salesman 101 is actually that statement you just said. It was something we taught. That people don't care.
You know, you can know all there is to know about a car, but they could care less unless you care about them. And so you know, part of what your job is. No matter what your job is, is to show and it to truly care about somebody before you go about trying to sell them anything.
Well, fascinatingly, fast forward in my life, so I come to Calvary Church. in 1982 or whenever it was. And there at the time was a pastor by the name of Mark Quartz. It would be a rare month that he would not quote what you just said. when it came to witnessing.
Which is a lot about what we want to make sure is highlighted in Proverbs. That When you're out there talking to somebody about Jesus, they don't care how much you know about the Bible. Right. Yeah. They want to know how much you care.
And and I I've never heard it put better, Angela, than when the way you put it today. It was beautiful. That Jesus is the ultimate picture of it.
Well Amen. Amen. Absolutely. It is and it's and it's only by it's the work of the Holy Spirit, um That even came into my heart. And like I said, it's all about bearing witness with our spirit, the Spirit of God in us.
And that's how we w you know, the gospel stands up on its own because It is truth, and it's absolute truth, and it bears witness with the Spirit of God in us. Is the way I've experienced it. And that's how we, when we read the Word of God, are fed. and nourished and and then when you share that with others. And it is out of a heart of love, not and I I I know the convicting work that happens when you're doing things for the wrong motive.
it it has to be done with that love of Christ, and that can only be done like through the surrender. And um you know, surrender to God and Um Yeah, just, you know, allowing him to Um But it's a beautiful relationship and when you open up your heart to them and There you go. I just, you know, appreciate, yeah. I mean, there's. There's some other proverbs that I had recently, too, but that was the main one I felt like because God tells us that we could do all these things.
And I have, I've gone through seasons where God showed me I was sounding like a gong. You know? No, I've been there. Yeah. And it's like you can't even stand to hear your own self.
He'll make you sound to your own self like, you know, he's so gracious, he allows us to hear ourselves that way.
So, yeah. I, um I've really I thank God for how wonderfully He knows how to get to each one of our hearts and win us over and. And be gentle and patient with us and kind. I'm just so grateful, and I want to do that. you know um I I try to walk in that same manner that God is See, now you added another thing to my repertoire.
I'm going to mention that maybe from the pulpit once or twice. You don't want to go on the gong show. Go next. Oh, I like it. Yeah.
Because I have been on the gong show way too many times. I'm sure many of my listeners would say, Robbie, that you belonged on the gong show that week. That is so good. That is so good, Angela. I love it, man.
I'm so grateful that you called in today. It means the world to us. Thank you for the opportunity. Thank God. All glory to him.
Yes, amen. Thank you so much. And how about you? You're listening. 866, you got something.
Maybe it's your own proverb. 866-348-7884. What's your pocket proverb? What's your go-to?
Something that really speaks to your heart. You could hear how that spoke to Angela's heart. 866-3487884. And again, those things all speak to that one proverb that. you wanted to make sure that we got mentioned that Well, of all those proverbs that have Such significance for us, Proverbs 11:30.
Proverbs 11:30 says, He who wins souls is wise. And so, there's Proverbs that remind us others need us, and the others need us to share this precious gospel that we just talked about: that Jesus Christ, He lived, He died, He was buried, He rose again, and every soul is going to face eternity. That's in Proverbs. There is an eternity, and a wise person is going to be prepared to meet the Lord. And so, Proverbs 11:30, He who wins souls is wise.
If you're not winning souls, you're not wise. What a great Bible. What a birthday verse. You know, Dr. Carson has, you know, in his date the word app, right?
You can find out your birthday verse.
So if your birthday is November the 30th, man, what a cool verse. Go with your birthday. 11, Proverbs 11, 30. And, and, Mm-hmm. You know, we will realize that, you know, I love that song, Thank You Forgiving of the Lord.
You know, someday when you're in heaven and you're with these people, you didn't know. You know, I bet you've experienced that in your life if you've been a gong at times, but otherwise you're out there sharing Jesus. And then all of a sudden, you'll find out years later that it had a great effect on somebody's life. And they later came to Christ.
So you had a chance to sow, and somebody else had a chance to water, but God made it grow. And then all of a sudden... You know, you got honored to find out that you took part in what can you imagine what it's going to be like in heaven for how you faithfully. We're going to need eternity to be able to hear all the stories of our various impacts. Yeah, and again, it's impacts.
He did it through you. Apart from him, we can do nothing. That's another one of my own that's not in Proverbs. He made a vessel in his hands. It's in the book of John.
But anyway. What are your pocket proverbs? 866-348-7884. We only got one more segment left, and I need you to call 866-348-7884. Better yet, God would like you to.
I know it. Truth Talk Life How fun today? What is you? Yeah. Pocket proverb, or where do you go to throughout the day.
I bet you're many parents out there like me that cling on to that, you know. train up a child in a way he should go and You know, you think When he grows old, you know that That's a great one to hang on to. How about you? 866-348-7884-866364. three four eight seven eight eight four you know where where Where has God led you in different seasons, right?
Yeah, different seasons. The parenting is huge. Lots and lots of verses. There's Proverbs 22, 6 for sure. I was challenged as a young parent on Proverbs 13, 24.
He who spares his rod hates his son. But he who loves him disciplines him promptly. And I wrote a thing down. I write proverbs for proverbs.
So, my proverb. on this proverb is, It takes discipline to do discipline. Because if I let it keep going, they're just going to get worse. And really, what I'm saying to my child, what I don't discipline them for doing wrong, is I hate them. And I didn't want my children to think I hated them.
And so I wanted them to know I loved them. And so when they did misbehave, it meant I had to discipline myself to now discipline them. And that's just one of the many great proverbs on being a parent. And then there's. Verses about being a grandparent and leaving up an inheritance for your children's children is found in Proverbs.
I mean, again, it's 915 verses that's just loaded. Each one's really, you call it, you know, the pocket proverb. I love that. A nugget of wisdom. Thinking of gold, wisdom.
The treasure chest. Yeah, and as Mike pointed out earlier in the show, it's in your heart, right? And you hang that around your neck. I love the way he pictured that, that it would be there as is mentioned in the Psalms, obviously, you know, that I'm going to put his word in my heart that I wouldn't sin against him. In that place of decision, often, because as you said, Proverbs has how many butts?
289. 289, because so often we're faced with a decision. It's this or that. Yes. We can go this way or that way.
In the case of disciplining your child, you can make the choice and discipline them, or you can let it go. You still made a choice. You made the choice. And there will be a result that will come from that. The consequences will come.
When you, if tomorrow, you dive into Proverbs like we're challenging, you're going to read Proverbs 1:4, and it's going to say that it's to give prudence. To the simple, It's to so the young man will have knowledge and discretion.
So it's going to give prudence. And most people, as soon as they read that, Robbie. They just read right on over it. They don't think about what is prudence.
Well, what is he giving? This is the really the first thing wisdom is giving. And I define prudence the ability to carefully consider the consequences of a choice. What Proverbs wants us to do is know when we make that choice, there's going to be a consequence.
Now, think before acting. If I put my hand on the hot stove, it's going to be burned. How long then am I going to have to deal with the ramifications of a burned hand?
Okay, think about the con That's what you get from all these different proverbs: how to carefully consider the consequences of a choice. Whatsoever a man sows, That will also reap. And that's not just negative stuff, that's positive. You do the right thing, you get blessings, lots of blessings, as mentioned in the book of Proverbs. Right.
And, you know, throughout the Bible you'll hear uh this idea of here. Right? And Jesus said, He who has ears to hear, let him hear. What the Spirit says to the church is obviously in the book of Revelation, but then even in obviously Deuteronomy, the very Shema, as it's called in Hebrew, hear, O Israel.
Well, the neat thing about that word is in Hebrew, it doesn't just mean that you heard, it means you obeyed. Right. That they're one and the same kind of thing that you want to show that you actually heard.
Well then obey. And if you love me, you'll do what? You'll obey. which also means you heard.
So so the first time he says something to his son, my son, what's the next word? Here. Hear the instruction of your father and do not forsake the law of your mother. Right, which he's saying Shema, son. Yes.
Shema, which means hear and obey. Hear and obey. And then back to Mike. When we do these things, they will be a graceful ornament. on your head and chains about your neck.
It's gotta make you More beautiful. Yeah, with that idea of grace. Is favor. And we can't live without God's favor. Right.
Or people's favor comes in pretty handy, too, if you're trying to win souls. That's right. And again, you know, grace is a Fascinating idea. That when you see a king and they say, her grace, well, that person is truly in God. They will be full of grace because Jesus, you know, if you are to be pictured like Jesus, he is full of grace and truth.
Now, John 1:14. Yes. And when you think of that picture of a true king, of what they're supposed to be, they should be full of this idea of. of grace. As we've talked about, if we could begin to ingest here.
A chapter of Proverbs every day, and to whatever extent God gives you the Holy Spirit to interpret that that particular day, you know, what an opportunity you have. every day to dive in. And and I I would put pitched this idea to parents when I was ahead of school. Uh parents, you want to do this. To help your children, your teenagers, especially Proverbs, I really believe was written for the teenager.
How do I get the young man, the young lady ready for? Facing life. And so here's a parent that's reading it. And now there's things to discuss. What do you think about what?
Solomon said here, but it's it's getting them that information. Before they need to make the decision. That's the beauty of Proverbs. Right. You think about it, the first verse in the bet section of the 119th Psalm, which is the second section because it comes with letter B, and that idea of bet means house.
And so we're going to begin the idea of A household.
Okay, and what's the proverb say? How shall a young man cleanse his way? Right. By taking heed according to your word. Right.
And again, giving this idea that these, as you said, the young people, right? If they take heed, what they're hearing and they're listening and they're obeying according to thy word. And so it's again, the. to build this house It's kind of neat to think about that we can do that because Jesus is the work. And as we begin to get more of the word in our hearts, then obviously with that comes wisdom, with that comes favor, with that comes all the things that God promises in his world.
One of those big words will be God's blessings. Proverbs 3.33 will talk about how he blesses the home of the just. He blesses. And one of the things I've always wanted is: how do I get the blessings of God in my life? And as I get the Word of God in my life and I'm obeying the Word of God, He opens up windows of heaven, and we can't contain all the blessings He gives us, but we've got to make the decision.
And Rob, one of the things I like about this idea, again, reading one chapter a day out of the book of Proverbs. The chapter that you read matches the date on the calendar.
Well, if you end up missing reading on day seven, okay, it's not the end of the world. for you to read chapter 8 the next day. Yes, you ought to read it in order, but you don't have to, because the Proverbs chapters really kind of stand on their own.
So, you're going to get something that's going to be. You're not going to leave Joseph in jail or. Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
Like, Genesis has a flow to it. There's some of the Gospels has that connection with Jesus' life. But that's, so you missed a day. Just whatever the date is, date the word, read Proverbs of that chapter of that day. And just be ready for God to speak because there's going to be usually anywhere from 25 to 35 verses, one of them is going to speak to your heart about something you need to be adjusting your life with.
Yeah, and if you've never done it before, since it is the 31st of July, take a look at Professor. Proverbs 31 from a perspective of the church. If you're a man, you never thought you were supposed to be a Proverbs 31 woman, but here's your chance. And see, I'm learning that from you. I've never really thought of it from that standpoint, but that's a great way of thinking.
That a church, if it did all the things, if your church did all those things about the dis that and clothed the poor and did all those things, wow. And then what? Jesus is the man standing at the gate. That the that everybody prays is because of his church. It's a beautiful thing to read Proverbs 31 from the perspective of this is a virtuous.
church. Which would be the bride of Christ. And so it's a really neat thing that. Every time you go through it, You get another angle, you get another chance at this.
Well, Proverbs 8:1 for tomorrow, does not wisdom cry out? Does not understanding, lift up her voice. It's appealing to you. Get wisdom. Hear, O Israel.
