This is the Truth Network. Welcome to Truth Talk Live. All right, let's talk the truth now. I can't hide it. I can hold it in the bottom.

A daily program powered by the Truth Network. This is kind of a great thing, and I'll tell you what. Where pop culture, current events, and theology all come together. Speak. Mine.

And now, here's today's Truth Talk Live host.

Well, welcome to Truth Talk Live. I'm Dwayne Carson. Have a ministry called Date the Word. And today's date is June the 11th. 6:11, and we've got several great verses.

Ephesians chapter 6, verse 11 is the verse that I went with today, and we We must put Put on the whole armor of God. Ephesians 6, 11. Put on the whole armor, God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. And we even do a devotional on this. You can go to www.date the word.com.

And you can even subscribe for our daily devotion. But you can see a devotion on Ephesians 6, 11. We also have an app, Date the Word app. Just go to your app store, download it. It's all free.

And you can see the verse for every, for the day, as well as verses for the date. For instance, there's not only Ephesians 6, 11, but you got 1 Timothy 6, 11. But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. Daniel 6, 11. Then these men assembled and found Daniel praying and making supplication before his God.

Now, the significance of Daniel 6, 11 is Daniel has been prohibited from praying. But what does he do? He still goes and prays, and the men who were looking to get him in trouble found him praying. And I just wonder sometimes if we were told. We would be punished for praying if that would have any impact on our prayer life.

Whether we would decide, you know what, we're going to keep praying, or maybe we're not praying anyway, so it wouldn't matter if there were laws passed against it. Daniel was found praying. And then Matthew 6:11, give us this day our daily bread. That's part of the Lord's Prayer. And I give this tip many a times.

Got it from Dr. Elmer Towns at Liberty University. What a great way to begin every day is to wake up and pray the Lord's prayer. Not ritualistic, but praying through the Lord's Prayer. When you wake up, you pray.

So today is June the 11th, 611. And so with date the word, we give you some verses. We hope you take a look at the website or download the app. But now let's dive into today's topic. We've got Father's Day.

It's coming. It's going to be here this Sunday. And we celebrate fathers. We give thanks for fathers for the role that God has a father doing. It's crucial.

And to all you out there that are fathers, thank you. Thank you. Thank you for doing your role, your responsibility. Not long ago in my neighborhood, I saw a father. He was pushing.

his his daughter in in one of those rollers. And I I I could just see as he's doing it, he had a smile on his face. And I said, young man, I'm assuming that's your daughter. He said, it is. I said, I just want to commend you for what you're doing.

You're spending time Time you'll never get back. Today, I want to ask a question. What Bible verses? have instructed you on being a father. What Bible verses have helped you in your Roll Of understanding what your responsibilities are, I want you to give us a call 1-866-348-7884.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, insights, as we think about. What does the Bible say? About being a father. What a great role. A husband, what a great responsibility, great role.

But then a father. And I became a father June 28, 1990. It was a Tuesday and I went I was at home for lunch and all of a sudden my wife said, We've got to get to the hospital and we went to the hospital and by evening time, Christy Amanda Carson was born, and I had that incredible joy. And there are a lot of you listening right now. You know what I'm talking about.

If you've experienced this, to hold in your hands for the very first time. Uh a brand new Precious baby. I was just overwhelmed. I'd never seen anything so beautiful in my life as my daughter, Christy, holding her June 28, 1990. We would go on to have another daughter, Katie.

We have two sons, Kirk and Clayton. And so I have the responsibility, yes, the privilege, the opportunity to be a father. But I want you to know something. Even though I had a good family structure, Uh I did not have uh I I did not have a lot of background in How to be a father. From the standpoint of what the Bible says.

And so I'd already started, you know, they do those books of what to expect when you're pregnant.

Well, I started reading from the Bible. What do we, what are we supposed to do? What does the Bible say when we have a child? I wanted to know what God wanted me to do.

So I started combing the scriptures for verses about father, about children. And so I've got a number of verses today that I'm going to be real glad to share with you. But I want to hear from you. And right off the bat, we've got Tom. He's calling in from Utah.

Tom, welcome to Truth Talk Live. What do you have for us?

Well, um Yes, for me, I am a little off the beaten path of sorts. I'm glad to be so. Uh when I look around. Um But kind of a life verse for me You know, we all know Malachi Three, um, I think it's sixteen that God hates divorce. Right.

So the Of course. The the opposite.

So you know, I think Christians, we we automatically we have an ethic, a desire to have good marriages.

Well, why does you know, it informs us, I believe, in verse fifteen, I'm not sure. It might be verse 14. You know, why? Why does God hate divorce? He hates divorce Because He wants us to be parents of the next righteous generation.

Um To me, I look at that Passage, and I interpret it that really, I mean, God has his purposes. that we be like Christ in the church. There would be an example in a light as Christ the Church, but also and maybe even more so, That we're to be the parents of the next righteous generation. Our whole point. Of being married and having a family is to raise righteous children.

I I love That thinking. By the way, it's Malachi 2.16. Just for our listeners, Malachi 2.16. And it's not that God hates a divorced person, but he does hate divorce. Because what you just said, Tom, is so true.

Uh we have I call it responsibility. As a father, as a mother of Nurturing Training Growing, developing that child for the next generation. And it takes, you know, there's a lot of single fathers out there, single moms out there. But the way God designed it, as you said, We have the responsibility of raising up the next righteous generation. And for me, I'm going off of Proverbs chapter 22, verse 6.

Train up your child. Deuteronomy. Train up our child. Tom, I don't know if you can stay with us, but we're going to need to go to a break. I want others to call in: 1-866-348-7884.

What verses have helped you to be a father? Give us a call. Let's talk about this as we're headed into Father's Day, those important verses. For our Father development. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com.

Welcome back to Truth Talk Live. I'm Dwayne Carson. Our ministry is Date the Word and today with Date the Word we're we're pointing you to scriptures. to help a father be a father. My testimony is, uh I got started.

Uh I didn't have a Real good grasp on what it meant to be a godly biblical father. And so I started combing scripture and I found verses like Psalms 127, verse 3: Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord. The fruit of the womb is a reward. Wow, what a thought! A heritage from the Lord.

But then, verse 4: like arrows in the hand of a warrior, so are the children of one's youth.

Now, that told me: okay, an arrow has to be built, developed. And you want an arrow that's going to, if it's going to hit its target, that arrow has to be straight. It has to be sharp. It has to be solid. And that gave me some clues of things I was supposed to be doing with my children.

And then you may be familiar with the Ephesians chapter 6 passage because that's what I was doing. That one starts off with children are to obey their parents. And my daughter, Christy, one time, as we taught her to quote that, she said, Parents obey your children. I said, You're becoming rebellious there. No, let's get the scriptures right.

And we had a good laugh. And children, obey your parents. Honor your parents' children. And then it says to the father, and you fathers. And it starts off with, do not provoke your children to wrath.

Okay. A first action of a father is something he's not to do. Colossians chapter 3, verse 21 says, Do not provoke your children lest they become discouraged. And the idea is that a father, with his tone of voice, with his action, actions or even inactions Can quench the spark that is within a child.

So God says, as I instruct you fathers on how I want you to raise your children, first off, don't be provoking them. Don't be aggravating them, agitating them. Don't be harsh to them and snuff out the light where they feel like they have no value. We're supposed to give value. Let them know how important they are.

I told my children I love them. I'm giving them hugs and I wanted them to know they were special in God's sight. And then it does say that we are to We're too Okay. Mm-hmm. Bring them up in the training and the admonition of the Lord.

We're to be speaking into their mind, just like a coach does. Speaking into their mind the actions they're supposed to take so they themselves will be living righteously.

So there's some verses, but I want to hear from you.

So again, to call in. It's 866-348-7884. What Bible verses have helped you Be a father, a biblical father. What are those verses that God has used to help you do the things that He's called you to do? And as you make the call in and share your verses, that's going to help other fathers out there.

As we head toward Father's Day, again, we want to edify, build up fathers. And again, with no hesitation, I want to say: if you're a father out there, Thank you for taking Being there for your child. Heard an interesting interview the other day. Aaron Judge, he plays baseball. And if you don't, I would hope a lot of you know who that is.

He plays for the New York Yankees, one of the best, if not the best, players right now.

Well, I'll tell you. He just had a child, and the person interviewing asked him what was harder, changing a diaper or hitting a fastball at 95 miles an hour. He said, Well, hitting a fastball is far harder than taking care of my child. He says, But I had to, and he shared this in an interview. He said, But I knew going into being a father, I had things I had to learn, and changing a diaper was one of them.

And so immediately I'm asking the nurses, all right, show me exactly what I'm supposed to do. He wanted to be coached how to change a diaper. He wanted to be involved from the very beginning with his child. I thought that was so cool. What's your story out there?

Your Bible verse or verses that really helped you as a father? Call us at 866-348-7884. The Deuteronomy 6 passage is, I would say, the crown jewel of the responsibilities. And I'm going to add this now of parents, but especially fathers. Deuteronomy 6, 7, we're supposed to be learning the commandments of God.

And then it says in verse 7, you shall teach them diligently to your children. Diligently to your children. I don't want to get to preaching on the radio here with this talk show, but listen diligently to your children. This is not something you to take lightly. And he says, and you shall talk with them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, when you rise up.

I want you to know. God is serious about us as fathers training our children First, the first disciples I'm supposed to be making is my children. Hey, we got Jay from Lynchburg. Hey Jay, welcome to Truth Talk Live. What do you got for us?

Well you You probably have gone over this already, but I wanted Just to share with you two verses that I've led being a daddy for. For over 18 years. Number one, Ephesians 6, verse 4: Fathers, do not exasperate your children, instead, bring them up. training and the instruction of the Lord, really the verse It just emphasizes something that we all deal with as dad, a challenge. I'm just dealing with patience and guidance and spirit.

Yeah. spiritual leadership. Told people for many, many years, we are, as daddies, we are the chief. Disciple. makers of our kids, not the church.

not a school, but we as daddies are the chief disciple makers. And the second verse, last verse, Proverbs 22, And verse 6, start. Your children off the way that they should go, and even when they're old. They won't turn from men.

Now seeing my son who's who's twenty-eight. and has our first first great Yeah. Uh just seeing what he's doing. with his own son. And seeing the things that I trained him in for so many years.

years now it's uh just being passed on. It's a blessing, so.

Something that, you know, is a reminder that we've got a Really a lasting A long way. Yeah. of uh of being a daddy. Yeah. And and and it is incredibly special.

to be a grandfather. It's bad. As I am now in that role. I do. Yeah.

I freely admit I enjoy sharing God's word with my grandson Logan. But it's even more enjoyable watching my son-in-law and my daughter. As they're doing it, as they're taking him to church and getting him involved at Iwana and VBS. And as Christy was this year, she told us as she took him to church. school each day, she was reviewing a Bible verse with him.

Well, that's what I did with my kids when they were growing up, and to see how they're passing it on. What a joy. And that's the thing, fathers, that as you're listening to this, you got to be thinking it is generational. Not just one generation, generational. Hey, Jay, thanks for your call.

Thanks for being an awesome father. And I know you're going to be a tremendous grandfather. and keep doing great work there at Liberty University. We really appreciate you. Hey, this is Truth Talk Live.

And call us 866-348-7884. We want to hear your Bible verses on being a father. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Welcome back to Truth Talk Live on this Wednesday, June the 11th. We're coming up on Father's Day.

And as we're thinking about fathers and fatherhood, the responsibility. Oh, what a responsibility. We want to find out. what the Bible has to say to a father regarding the responsibilities he's supposed to have and do for his children. And I've got to believe there are listeners out there, you've had a Bible verse.

Or verses Passages that have really impacted your life, and we would love to hear it. 866-348-7884. Jay called us. We've had a call from Tom in Utah. We're waiting for your call.

Give us a call. I'm sharing my story. I've been impacted greatly by the book of Proverbs. Um needed to ch have my life radically transformed and Proverbs was one of the places that helped me. And you know, when you come to Proverbs, one of the first things that grabs your attention is you're going to see the words, my son.

My son. Proverbs 1:8, he just gets started and he says, My son, hear the instruction of your father.

Well, that tells you something: that for him to hear the instruction, the father has to be giving the instruction. He's doing Deuteronomy chapter 6, verse 7. My son. Listen to what I have to say. And then he also says, Do not forsake the law of your mother.

Again, mom and dad involved in the training, the teaching, the biblical principles to the child. He then says, Verse 10, My son, if sinners entice you, do not consent. Verse 15, my son, do not walk in the way with them. Keep your foot from their path.

Well, here comes three quick principles for raising children. They need to have the right principles. They need to be with the right people and they need to be in the right places. And because Let's be very honest here. If we got in trouble, there's usually one of three things that were happening.

We had the wrong principles that were guiding our lives. We were with the wrong people, and we were in the wrong places. And so, Proverbs starts off with a father appealing to a son: let's get the right principles in our lives, let's get the right people in our lives, let's get the right. Be in the right places, and then we're going to get right practices. Proverbs is loaded.

Proverbs 20, verse 7, is a verse that has impacted me multiple times as I think about making decisions. Proverbs 20 verse 7 says, The righteous man walks in his integrity.

Now watch the list. Listen. The righteous man walks in his integrity, and his children are blessed after him. How you live, fathers, matters. Just by doing what is right, you bring a blessing to their lives.

Hey, we've got Mike from Ohio. Hey, Mike, how are you today? I'm awesome. This is an awesome subject, and to me, it is. You know, you ever heard that term?

You just hit it on the nose just a second ago. The term apple doesn't fall far from the tree. That's right. You know, it doesn't. And Uh they mimic your children, mimic you.

Every step of the way. They look at you every day and they idolize you and they mimic you. And to this day, my son, I'm so proud of my son right now. He treats his wife with very much respect. And love and cherishes her.

He tells me that, you know, he just shows her with. Everything that a Christian should do, and how he treats his kids. with uh respect w but also discipline. Um I I'm very proud of what results Come from what I've done, you know what I mean? Yeah, and what I've nursed in those and my kids.

And it's not an easy task, you know, because. You know, you will go to day-to-day and you have a fly out day at work and you come home and you start yelling at the kids because they didn't clean up the room. You know, that's right. Yes. You know, and but you know, you then I also, when I did that, I went to them and I said, Hey, I'm sorry.

I'm sorry I did that. I was in the wrong. You know what I mean? And uh being a A example is more important than anything I my my you know, my my opinion is. You know, show them that you pray.

Pray with them at the table, dinner table. Get up in the morning, pray before they go to school. Yes. Pray with them after they get home from school. Ask them how their day was.

What's going on with your life? How is God in your life? Ask them those questions. Is God in your life? Is is God with you right there all day today?

You know, or did you just ignore him today? You know what I mean? And just be. Be a witness to them. uh questions and uh You know, what has God been doing in your life lately?

Not just how's your day? What's God been doing in your life? I want to go back to something that you said, Mike, about walking in their shoes. Because you just brought up an incredible memory for me. There was a song by Philip Craig and Dean that talked about your children walking in your shoes.

And one day... My daughter came walking around the corner and she said, Dad, look at me. I'm walking in your shoes. And it just floored me. I was like, oh my word, they really are.

That they're walking in my shoes. That's literal, but that's that's Why I got to be so careful what I say, how I react, because what I end up doing, that's what they're going to do. And what a great reminder. Be the example. Be what you want your children to be.

Yeah. Right.

My you know, my son is a very hard worker. You know, I I trained him that, you know, to be a very hard worker. Um, I can give examples of that, you know, with uh their employers coming to me and saying, Man, you have a great son. He worked so hard for us, you know, and I you know, it makes you so proud. Yeah.

We love, it's something about hearing someone else give a compliment about your child. Hey, Mike, thanks for a call. We've got another one from Ohio also.

So I'm going to switch over and see what Steve has to say. Hey Steve, welcome to Truth Talk Live today. Hi, doctor Carson. I love your topic. I I love I love this.

2 Corinthians 16, 13. Be strong in the faith, be on the alert. Uh be courageous, act like men. Oh, what a verse for a father. I mean the I I would just so much like to share the guys.

In the Bible. It's not by happenstance that God used Ordinary men And even when they stumble greatly and stumbled in their phase If they got up and looked at him, he allowed them to finish strong. And no matter what's happened in our past, We can finish strong. Pick up the word. Search the scriptures and the scriptures will search you.

That's excellent. That is excellent. Um I think it was John Maxwell that made the statement that we. impress people with their successes. But we impact people with our failures.

And when we are. Honest. with our children. You know, something didn't work like we wanted it to. The Bible, again, Proverbs, I love Proverbs.

A righteous man falls and he gets back up seven times. He's not going to stay down. And when our children see us, real life. Pairs. Obstacles.

Real life has opposition. I talked with a man today. who 2008, he was on top of the world financially, and then everything crashed. It wasn't his fault that the housing market crashed, but now he has to work through that. And the man that he is today.

Is because of the things he had to face in those days. Um, And so I love your verse, 1 Corinthians 16, 13, to be strong, be courageous. Show yourself a man. Be a man. I love it.

Our kids A lot of us had to learn this a hard way, but our children at a pretty young age. They are aware when we've messed up. They are aware when we were too harsh. They were aware. They were aware when we were being a hypocrite.

So, like the previous caller, the best thing we can do is just always be honest, let the Holy Spirit. lead us back to them, back to our wives. and apologize because life's gonna throw things at you. And it's all how we respond. that's going to create Good responses for our legacy.

Absolutely. I couldn't agree more. Um And and It does take a real man. To own up I made a mistake I blew this. I've overreacted.

Um. And uh To have to say I'm sorry. We watched that Happy Days show m so many times. Wi the Fawns. I he just couldn't apologize.

Real men apologize and um And and they gain respect there. They gain respect from their children. And that's part of when you have the respect of your child, you can do so much more training. Steve, thank you for your call today. Thank you, man.

The Lord bless you and happy Father's Day.

Now we need your call. One eight six six three four eight seven eight eight four. I want to hear from you. I want to hear your verses. Listen, Proverbs is going to lay out for the father.

Things he should be teaching his son, but I want to hear from you. I'm going to give you some more verses for you to be thinking on, chewing on, but. Like these other callers, they're blessing us with the verses that have impacted their lives as a father. 866-348-7884. We're going to be going to a break.

You call in as we go to our last segment. I want to hear from you callers. Let's talk about being a biblical father as we head into this Father's Day 2025. Truth Talk Live. You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com.

Welcome back to Truth Talk Live. I'm Dwayne Carson and today we're talking about Being A biblical father. What Bible verses? Passages Have instructed you on being a father and love for you, like others have already done. Call us 866-348-7884.

Love to hear what Bible verses grabbed your attention to help shape you as a father. Maybe today, as I'm doing this, there's some verses now that are grabbing your attention. I'm hoping Ephesians 6:4, Colossians 3:21 fathers grab your attention because it speaks directly to us on things we're not to do as well as things we are to do. And you hold. Your child's future.

In the way you handle them. Don't exasperate them, is the way one version says it. Don't provoke them to anger. There's a right way. to do discipline.

There's a right way to correct them. And and it's so crucial that we we take heed to that. One of the verses that uh did shape me was Proverbs thirteen thirty four twenty four thirteen twenty four where it says that we are not to withhold discipline. If your child does something wrong, they're to be disciplined. And if you don't discipline them Listen, Proverbs 13, 24 says, he who hates his child does not discipline him.

When you're not doing discipline, it says if you hate your child, you want them to just be left to destruction.

So when you're disciplining your child, you are doing something that is loving, helping them so that they're not getting ensnared in the traps of the devil, sin that will destroy them. You're helping them to do that which is going to bring blessings to their life, not burdens to the life. I use a phrase on discipline. I used it on myself. It takes discipline.

To do discipline. It takes discipline to do discipline. And by Proverbs 13:24 in my Bible, I have that phrase because it's my responsibility, it's the parents' responsibility to correct wrong attitudes and wrong actions. Show them the right way.

Now, another verse, and I'm waiting for your call. 866-348-7884. Love to hear from you. But as I'm waiting for your call, I want you to know another verse that really had an impact on me. You know Proverbs.

is a book that's written by a father. Two. his son who would be a father and it's based on what he had learned from his father. Proverbs chapter 4, verse 3. Three says, when I was my father's son, Yeah.

tender and the only one in the sight of my mother.

Solomon gives a testimony that what he is teaching in Proverbs, a lot of it, not all of it, but most of it, came from his dad David. David poured into Solomon. He says, when I. Was my father's son tender? And the only one in the sight of my mother.

I want it as I started out being a father. I go back again, 1990. I said, Lord, help me to be the person my children learn more Bible from than anyone else.

Now, our children were going to be in a Christian school. They're going to have Bible teachers. They're going to be going to church. They got to set under Dr. Jerry Falwell, later, Jonathan Falwell.

I want it, though, them to be able to say, I wanted Proverbs 4.3 to be a verse that one day they would say, when I was my father's son, when I was my father's daughter, tender, My Father poured into me. He taught me the right thing. things and uh again huge responsibility as a father To be with the child, to spend time with the child, and to teach the child. I mentioned earlier that What are the Great passages about being a father is Proverbs is Psalms 127. Children are heritage from the Lord.

And then he says that they're like an arrow, arrows in our hands. Not long ago, a couple years ago, I was in Israel and Our guide pointed out There is Psalms 127 about The child. But there's also Psalms 128. And so he wanted us to read Psalms 128. And it says, Blessed is everyone who fears the Lord, Psalms 128, verse 1, who walks in his ways.

When you eat the labor of your hands, you shall be happy, and it shall be well with you.

Okay, great start. God blesses the one that is faithful, the one that fears the Lord, one that works hard. And then it says, your wife. Shall be like a fruitful vine in the very heart of your house. Your children like olive plants all around your table Well, I had never thought about My children being Olive plants.

Now, we don't have here, at least in North Carolina, a lot of olive trees. But in Israel, everywhere you go, there's olive trees. And as we were walking, he was pointing out the olive trees with the small olive trees right next to the big olive tree. And he said, that's like a child. And if you nurture that tree, Take good, it will produce and produce and produce.

And listeners, as we talked very early with, I believe it was Tom from Utah. We're supposed to be raising up our children for the next generation so they can be fruitful. And you have to have that idea of how to take care of a plant and grow it. And your child will be then like an olive tree around your table. That as you raise them up to be a blessing, they're going to be a blessing to you.

So I want you to be thinking about that idea that you not only have arrows, but that you have an olive tree growing. You're developing a fruit-producing tree. For the Lord Jesus Christ.

So that's another verse that has had great impact on my life. I also. have been impacted by Genesis chapter 48. when Jacob, whose now new name is Israel, He is blessing His children. Um And it gets real special.

As he gets to Joseph's children, Genesis 48. Here's a great verse to be checking out. Genesis 48:16. Uh Jacob is now in Egypt. and he never thought he'd ever see Joseph again.

But now he's seen Joseph. And not only has he seen Joseph, He's seen Joseph's sons. His grandsons And the Bible tells how Joseph placed his hands on His grandsons, and said, Blessed the lads. I love that. Bless the lads.
