Welcome to Truth Talk Live. All right, let's talk. A daily program powered by the Truth Network.

This is kind of a great thing, and I'll tell you why. Where pop culture, current events, and theology all come together. Speak your mind. And now, here's today's Truth Talk Live host. Amazing is that. And so, this is Truth Talk Live.

It is a live show. We need your calls. And here's the question I would love to hear. I really, really would love to hear this.

And the question is this. If you could lead the nation today in one prayer. So, this is you, and you have a chance to lead our nation in one prayer today. What would you pray? What would you pray? If you had a chance to say, okay, today, Dr. Date the Word Carson is going to lead the nation in prayer, what would he pray?

Or, because we're loaded for Bear in the Studio here at Truth Talk Live. We also have Mike Zwick of If Not For God, which starts out, restarts again this Saturday at noon. If you could lead the nation in one prayer, what would you pray?

And how cool is it that we have a day like this? And so, you've got to call us. 866 is the number to call with what you would pray. 866-348-7884. And I hope you prayed it already for yourself, but if you could lead the nation in one prayer, what would you pray?

866-348-7884. And without spilling all the candy, Dr. Carson, just this day. This day is huge, and it has been huge since the beginning of the founding of Jamestown. If you go all the way back to 1607, as they came to America, they got settled. They were having daily prayers, daily services.

When I visited Jamestown, which I encourage people to go to Colonial Williamsburg, go to Jamestown, and you would see they would have two services a day. They would stop their work so that the Word of God could be taught, and they'd spend time in prayer. And they had to trust God. And when they were on the Nina and the Pinta and the Santa Maria, you bet.

I mean, they were on their way. And then, of course, there's the Mayflower. And when the pilgrims came and the Puritans, how did we get through this? We must trust God. And our nations always had an upward look to God.

And when we get to our country looking at what are we going to do about England, it seems like we need to have our own country. They have this Continental Congress, and they pray 1774. They have a prayer meeting there on September the 7th. And I carry a picture, keep it in my truck, that reminds me to pray every day for our nation, because on that day, our governmental leaders got on their knees, on their face, and called out to God. How cool is that?

How cool is that? Rudan is in North Carolina. He's got an answer.

I would love to hear it. So Rudan, you're on Truth Talk Live. What would you lead the nation in prayer? Yes, I would lead them in Isaiah 58, verse 12. And it says, And they that shall be of thee shall build thy old waste places, that shall rise up the foundations of many generations, and that shall be called the repair of the breach, the restore of the past, the dwelling. So in saying all that and quoting that scripture is because I believe the prayers will allow our foundations of our country to be raised up as Jesus is the repair of the breach, and he'll restore our path to welling through that. Simply just praying to God and asking him to move in our nation and to be put first. Well, Rudan, I wish you could have seen Dr. Carson start to pump the air when you were reading. I think you had a hearty amen over here. So Dr. Carson, that wouldn't have lit you up, did it?

That's the passage where how you learn to fast as well. Isaiah 58 and the foundation. If the foundations are falling, cracked, we're in trouble. Everything's based on the foundation.

And we've gotten away from God and we're seeing a turn back to God. And people are realizing that that you have these cracked foundations. You have nothing to stand on. And you're just going to fall. You're going to get harmed. Sin always destroys.

It's pleasurable for a season, but then it starts destroying. And I love this prayer. Wow. The foundations. We've got to restore the foundations.

Yeah, Rudan, it's really cool. From my standpoint, the 119th Psalm, it says, Thy word is true from the beginning and every one of thy righteous judgments endures forever. And the idea behind that is anything that is true, especially a foundation, if it's true, it don't break down.

But if it's built on a lie, it cannot, it will not stand. And it's an amazing thing. So I love your prayer, my friend. I'm so grateful for you calling in today. Well, thank you for letting me have the opportunity.

And I really do appreciate it. And just know that foundation. I know Matthew talks about it, that Jesus is our rock. So as long as he's the cornerstone, the capstone, I know that everything will be be solid and founded on him.

So that's as opposed to the sand, right? That's so cool. Thank you, man. I really, really appreciate your call. God bless.

What say you? 866-348-7884. If you could lead our nation today in prayer, and God gave you that opportunity, how cool would that be?

Number one. And number two, what would you pray? What would be your prayer? 866-348-7884.

866-348-7884. If not for God, right? Apart from him, we can do nothing in prayer. Things big, right, Mike?

Absolutely. If I could ask God to answer one prayer today, it would be Psalm 85 verses six through eight. Will thou not revive us again, that thy people may rejoice in thee? Show us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation. I will hear what God the Lord will speak, for he will speak peace unto his people and to his saints. But let them not turn again to folly. And we have been praying for years for a revival or in an awakening. And I know over in England, I believe they said there was a 50 percent increase in the last couple of years in church attendance. And so we see it going on over all over the world. And we're seeing pockets of revival right now in college campuses and this and that. But I want to see a great wave and I'm looking forward to it. Yeah, you are. If you know Mike, you can kind of see there might be a little enthusiasm there.

I figure the producer is trying to figure a way to turn down his mic over here. Psalm 85, will thou not revive us? Yes, that's the prayer to lead people in. That's awesome.

I absolutely love it. And so, you know, getting back to the history, Doc, what all we got? Well, as this thing became more prevalent, we have people that said we need to make this a national day of prayer, like we would have a national day Thanksgiving. And I found it interesting that in April 17th, 1952, a bill was initiated by Mr. Conrad Hilton. I didn't know that Conrad Hilton of Hilton Hotels and Senator Frank Carlson of Kansas was passed to establish a national day of prayer. So in 1952, our government said, you know what? We're going to say one day, the first Thursday of every May, it's going to be a day where we're going to personally put aside to call on God and for his blessings, but also to acknowledge that we need to be your people.

We need to be living the right way, according to your standards. And so that's been going on as far as the nation goes since 1952. That's kind of a big, you know, because one of us here at least was born in the 50s.

I don't know anything about the 50s, so it must be you, Rodney. So I appreciate that. I would appreciate even more. I really would. I would love to know really from your heart, what would you pray if you were going to lead our nation? I hope you already prayed it, but share it with us. It would mean so much to us.

866-348-7884, 866-348-7884. We'll be right back. Truth Talk Live! You're listening to the Truth Network and TruthNetwork.com. Welcome back to Truth Talk Live! Today's question, which we would love to hear your take on this, today's question is if you could lead our nation today in one prayer.

All right, you had that opportunity. They said, okay, today you could pray this. You could lead our nation in one prayer.

What would you pray? We would love to hear from you. The number to call in and share is 866-348-7884, 866-348-7884. We got Leslie is in Texas. So Leslie, you're on Truth Talk Live. Good afternoon.

Good afternoon, sir. I'm excited that you're calling, and what would you pray, Leslie? So my prayer would come out of Ezekiel 13, and it talks about foolish prophets, and I'm going to read it if you don't mind.

Please. Woe to the women who sew magic charms on their sleeves and make veils for the heads of people of every height to hunt souls. Will you hunt the souls of my people and keep yourselves alive? And will you profane me among my people for handfuls of barley or for a piece of bread, killing people who should not die and keeping people alive who should not live?

By your lying to my people who listen to lies. Therefore, thus says the Lord God, behold, I am against you and your magic charms by which you hunt souls like birds. I will tear them from your arms and let the souls go.

The souls you hunt like birds. I will also tear off your veils and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall no longer be as prey in your hand. Then you shall know that I am the Lord, because with lies you have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad. And you have strengthened the hands of the wicked so that he does not turn from his wicked ways to save his life. Therefore, you shall no longer envision purity or practice divination, for I will drive my I will deliver my people out of your hand. I ask the Lord to remove the veils and the charms that witchcraft is using to hunt souls to deliver his people. That is absolutely beautiful, Leslie.

Absolutely beautiful. So, Mike, your thoughts? Well, Leslie is a friend of ours. We go to Just Like Jesus over in Burlington, North Carolina. And I'm going to brag on Leslie for a second, because Leslie, when she was younger, and do you mind me sharing this, Leslie?

No, go for it. Okay. She had an abortion, and she had another abortion, and then she became a born-again Christian, and she realized that what she did was wrong. And she asked the Lord for forgiveness. And not only did she ask the Lord for forgiveness, but now every year she goes to the pro-life march in Washington, D.C. And she came to our church, drove from Texas to speak for about ten minutes at our church to share that the Lord can forgive you even in your deepest and darkest moments. So, wow, Leslie, in your prayer, obviously your life was affected by that exact problem that you're praying against at this point in time.

Yeah, and it's ironic. I was in an abortion clinic when there were people at the National Day of Prayer for the pro-life march. Not the day of prayer, but the pro-life march, which is in January, and that same day I was in an abortion clinic, and I heard the Lord speak to me and say, Get up and leave.

Everything will be okay. Because of the prayers of the people, I now have a 20-year-old son. Wow.

And it changed my life dramatically. That's so beautiful. Wow. Thank you, Leslie. That is so powerful. That is so encouraging for our listeners.

It doesn't matter what you've done, you can confess and find God's gracious forgiveness. That's beautiful. Amen. God bless you, Leslie. And it's beautiful to know that the righteous prayer of one person can change the life of so many others.

Isn't that true? Yes. It's amazing.

Yes. It is amazing. We serve an amazing God. God bless you, Leslie. Amen. You have an amazing day. We have – next up is – Deborah is in Burlington, North Carolina. Deborah, you're on Truth Talk Live. Yes. Good afternoon, and thank you for hosting this today. Oh, it's our joy, believe me.

Yes. And I want to tell Leslie, God blessed her. And when he told her to get up and leave everything, that it would be okay, he's good at his word. And we are so thankful that she listened. Leslie, we love you. I see that. And I do, too. I mean, that's amazing. So how about your prayer, Deborah?

Have you got one? Yes. Psalm 33, verses 12, and it may be 13, but blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord, the people he has chosen as his own inheritance. And one of the things, you know, we hear a lot of people today say, God bless America. Well, this tells us, blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord. And it's time for Americans to bless God and to turn to him, believe in him as the one and only living true God. That is awesome. You know, Deborah, I think that's such an amazing concept that we often don't, or I don't often think about, I don't know other people, is the concept of blessing God.

That's right. And when you make good choices, obviously, that's part of it. But also just, you know, asking, like, God, how could I bless you?

You know, what's my next move here? And you do that through prayer. Absolutely. Powerful stuff, Deborah. God bless you.

You have an amazing day of prayer. Okay. All right. Thanks, Deborah. Yes, thanks for calling. That's so awesome.

All right. We got Dean Odle is, let's see, Dean is where, Mike? Pastor Dean.

Let's get him on the line. Where is he from? Pastor Dean Odle is out of Opelika, Alabama, I believe. There you go.

Opelika, Alabama. Did I pronounce that right, Pastor Dean? You did.

You got it right. Very few people do. Yeah, so I've actually interviewed Pastor Dean several times. I actually met him with a, through, I think it was a Henry Shaffer conference. And he, his ministry, reaches people all over the world. And this guy is a brilliant man.

I think your website is deanodle.org, D-E-A-N-O-D-L-E dot org. Pastor Dean, you texted me, and you have a powerful prayer for today. Is that right?

Yeah. You know, it was, it's been on my mind, and of course, over the years, this passage, and I'm going to read from 1 Timothy 2, verse 1, starting there, but it's always on my heart, but it says, Paul writing by the Holy Spirit to Timothy, he said, I exhort, therefore, that first of all supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks be made for all men, for kings, and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who wills or desires all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. For there is one mediator, one God, and one mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus. And over the last several years, the Lord has, well really throughout my life, he's opened doors for me to interact with political leaders, some Christian, some not, some pretending to be. But I want to say this to everyone out there, that how important it is to pray for our political leaders fervently and frequently, because it does make a difference. I have had doors open to me to everyone, just about every leader in the state of Alabama, you know, at one point or another, even former governors, that God has just opened the doors for me to talk to. So when you pray for them, it's really helping them make decisions, and God actually turns their hearts to make better decisions.

And sometimes he even intervenes supernaturally to give us better people. I hate to jump in here, but we've got to go to a break. Dean, I hope you'll stay on with us through that. I have some comments about that.

And then we have Dan Davis is holding, but we need you. For some of us, you're going to have to listen to the podcast, the rest of the show. But everybody else, stay tuned. So much more Truth Talk Live. You're listening to the Truth Network and truthnetwork.com. Welcome back to Truth Talk Live. Today's question, since it is the National Day of Prayer, how awesome is that?

We get a chance to celebrate that on the first Thursday every May due to, as Dr. Carson has shared, a lot of wonderful shoulders that we stand on in this country. But the question today is, if you could lead the nation, if you could lead the nation in one prayer today, what would that prayer be? And we've had some amazing Scripture, wonderful thoughts, but we haven't gotten yours yet.

So you've got to call 866-348-7884, 866-348-7884. When we left our hero, Pastor Dean Odell, you made mention of this. And I just wanted to comment on this, since I'm a pastor and I'm sitting across from another pastor, that I'll bet you what you said, which I want to highlight, is when you pray for somebody in office or something like that, you make a gigantic impact. And if you're like me, Pastor, and I know Pastor Carson is, that you have an opportunity to pray in a lot of different churches. But I can almost tell, when I walk into certain churches, that they must have prayed a whopper because God gave me something amazing. And so when you get that amazing, or sometimes God gives me an amazing radio show or whatever it is, and I think about all the listeners that are out there praying for me, and what an impact that the people in the pews are making. And I bet you've experienced that, Pastor, right? Oh yeah, I was on the island of Mauritius one time having a service, and the power of God just came down and people got saved and just mighty things happened. And it was just awesome presence of God. And I found out later that at the very same time we were having that meeting, our entire church was praying fervently for us.

And it was different than any other meeting we had in the two weeks I was there preaching. So prayer is most important. It's really, after coming to Jesus, it's the highest thing we need to be doing. It's the number one thing. Yeah, because it's a relationship. So we've got to talk, right?

It's the beauty apart from me, you can do nothing. And how about you, Pastor? Well, Dr. Falwell always said, nothing of eternal significance ever happens apart from prayer.

And so it's the fuel. Charles Spurgeon had people in the basement praying while he was preaching. And as he would walk into the pulpit, he would say, Lord, today may the Holy Spirit fill me and use me. Well, based on the prayer of God's people, that's why his ministry was so powerful.

D.O. Moody, when he went to England, we've talked about England, how they're starting to see a revival there again now. When Moody went there, there were two ladies and both not doing very well, but one was kind of bedridden when she found out D.O. Moody was preaching. She said, I've got to get in my closet and pray for that man.

I've been asking God to send him to England. And again, the great power of God is released when we pour out our hearts to God. So beautiful. Pastor, I appreciate it, Mike. Yeah, I wanted to share and I want to thank you, Pastor Dean, for calling in. That was awesome. But I also wanted to share something about this recently. There was a woman who was literally on her deathbed and she was being literally being dehydrated.

She was done. They were making funeral arrangements. And every Wednesday we have a local pregnancy center. And I'm sure you guys are familiar with what a pregnancy center is. They encourage women not to have an abortion and then they help them.

They give them resources. They give they gave one lady a car. But we all got together and prayed that this lady would live.

Not only did she live, she is now thriving and doing much better. So I do believe in the power of prayer. Oh, yeah.

Oh, yeah. Well, thank you so much, Dean. God bless you.

Keep up the great work there in Alabama. I won't try that name of that city again. What is it, Mike? Opelika? Did I say it right? You did.

It means it's an Indian name that means the Great Swamp. Well, don't let Trump in there. He'll drain that thing. Just kidding. Anyway, thank you, Dean. God bless you. God bless. All right. We have Dan Davis.

Pastor Davis is a friend of Dr. Carson's, right? Hey, Dan. Hey, Duane. How are you today?

We're doing great. Tell us where you're calling from. I'm calling in from Spout Spring, Virginia, which is just outside of Appomattox, where our nation reunited. I'm glad you told that, because nobody would know where Spout Springs is.

Is that true? You do, apparently. You would only know where it is if you lived there. Well, I do know where it is, because that's where my grandfather Carson grew up. Really?

Yes. So when I go and preach for Dan, I'm going back to hometown. So, Dan, if you could lead the nation in one prayer today, what would you be leading us to pray? Oh, that's a tough question, but I think for me, Ephesians 3, 20 and 21 come together, where Paul said, Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than we could ask or imagine, according to his power that has worked within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus, throughout all generations, forever and ever. And so I think I would want to lead people to dare to pray for more than they can. I think sometimes we, and myself included, we limit what God can do to what we think we can do, or what humans can do. But it's great to remember that God can do infinitely more than we can even begin to imagine. And so I think that prayer, along with asking him to be glorified in his church and throughout generations, would be a great prayer for us to pray. That is powerful. Absolutely. And I love that thought, because how many times do we put our limits on God?

It's unbelievable. I think it was William Carey that said, Ask God for great things, expect great things from God. Oh, that's good. That's good. Dwayne, I remember you displaying that quote at a Student Life Director banquet. That's right. What God can do, and it was even said today at the White House prayer meeting there in the Rose Garden, President Trump made a mention that, let me find the quote here, may we remember that his power has no limits. Trump said that today at the Rose Garden. May we remember that the power of God has no limits. There you go. Wow.

That's powerful stuff. Well, Dan, God bless you up there in Sprout Springs, is that what it's called? Sprout Springs, just outside, really. He said Appomattox, but really just outside of Lynchburg.

That's another thing for people to know. Then they go, where's Lynchburg? In the middle of Virginia.

Yes. We're about 20 minutes from Lynchburg. That's wonderful. God bless you, sir, and have a great National Day of Prayer. I appreciate it. Thank you. Thank you. Oops, cut him off there at the end. But we've got Isaac is in Forrest, Virginia. So there you go.

There's another little town in Virginia I hadn't heard of. Isaac, welcome to Truth Talk Live. Hey, Robby, good to hear you again, brother.

Same here. Yeah, man. Yeah, the power of prayer does change things, that's for sure.

And the Bible tells us to pray about everything, right? Exactly. Exactly. Yeah. Pray with them.

Pray about everything. Exactly. Exactly. I've seen the hand of God move through prayer so many times.

I'm just in awe so many times. And he loves us so much. He doesn't want us to be worrying and fretting and doubting because that all cancels our faith. Exactly. And if you pray and have no faith, well, you're just praying a dead prayer.

Right. Prayer plus faith changes things. That's well said. Well said.

Yes, sir, thank you. Yeah, praise God for that. I believe the Holy Spirit's speaking through me. So, you're talking about if we could lead a nation on a prayer here in Matthew, chapter 9, you know, Jesus, you know, he tells us to pray about so many things all through the Word, and he says, you know, the harvest is abundant, but the workers are few. Therefore, pray to the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into his harvest. That's what we need to be praying for. Our country is, I believe, on a slippery slope, but God can change things.

We've seen what's happened just in the past few months. All these crazy ideologies and all this stuff, it's getting flipped up on his head, you know, because God's like, my people are praying, so I'm going to intervene in this situation. You know, the devil is not going to have his way. So, you know.

Oh, that's beautiful. Yeah, if you could have seen Dr. Carson, once again, I thought he was going to do a jumping jack when you mentioned that reference. He immediately knew what was coming. Well, we've got to pray for laborers. We're getting short on laborers, and Jesus said, pray.

He didn't just say have conferences. He said, pray, and then he would call, and this has become one of my missions right now as I work with different ministries. I want to know, are you praying for people in your ministry to be called out?

And we're seeing revival now on college campuses, and I believe we're going to see a new wave of Christian workers, Lord Granite. Isaac, real quickly, Robbie here did not know where Forrest is in Virginia. Where are you exactly in Forrest?

Because I've got something to tell him. Yeah, yeah. Well, I mean, right now I'm near Graves Mill Center. I grew up here in Forrest when Forrest was at Forrest. Now it's been swallowed up by the city, so I had to run to the mountains. And so I lived off of Everett Road.

Really? Yeah, my dad used to live on Everett Road. Do you know Isaac? No, I don't know Isaac, but Poplar Forest is where Thomas Jefferson has his second home.

Absolutely. I grew up like a stone's throw away from there. Yeah, so Thomas Jefferson probably walked on our land. Yeah, he owned 5,000 acres here in Forrest when he had it all.

It's a hometown Virginia, no doubt. Well, because of that, I will throw in real quickly, Thomas Jefferson said this, fasting and prayer are religious exercises. The enjoining them, an act of discipline. Every religious society has a right to determine for itself the time for these exercises and the object proper for them according to their particular tenets. And the right can never be safer than in their hands where the Constitution has deposited it.

Thomas Jefferson, 1808. Wow. And here we are.

We have religious freedom. And I like what you said, Isaac, about how you're praying that we need to pray that the Lord of the harvest will send out workers because in Isaiah 6-8, it says, Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here I am, send me. Here I am, send me the next caller, by the way. 866-348, send you. We need more of this.

866-348-7884. We'd love to hear your prayer, Isaac. God bless you. You have a wonderful day of prayer, my friends. Truth Talk Live! Welcome back to Truth Talk Live! Oh, what a wonderful National Day of Prayer we're having here at Truth Talk Live, just listening to these wonderful scriptures, people's prayers. The question today is, if you could lead our nation, and God allowed that, for you to lead our nation in prayer today, in one prayer, what would that prayer be?

866-348-7884, 866-348-7884. So Mike Zwick, if not for God, so fun to have you on the show with us today. His show starts out this Saturday, so the day after tomorrow, at noon, high noon, if not for God. And I can't wait, and the first show that I did, it was with Robbie Dilmore, Pastor Robbie Dilmore right here, who is the new pastor of… Kildee.

Kildee. There you go. So very fun. Thank you, Mike. It's amazing. And I appreciate you having me on.

Oh, it was absolutely awesome. And so, I'm going to ask you this question, Doc. I mean, you personally, while we're waiting on people to call us at 866-348-7884, what would you, if you had one prayer based on your heart, what God's given you to pray today, what would that be? Well, I find myself, if I, to say, I find 2 Chronicles 714 being rekindled each national day of prayer. If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, and as you and I talked, and you give me great Hebrew insights to humble, to hook yourself to God.

I've got to have God if my people humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways. And I think as we think about our nation each year at the national day of prayer component, we are a blessed nation, but we're also a wicked nation. And there's a lot of sin, and sin in the house of God. This isn't casting any stones. I've got sin in my life, and our churches have sin.

But we are a nation that needs to turn from its wicked ways. And it can't be for the pastor or the church for fame and glory. We need to be humble servants. Jesus washed disciples' feet. And who are we now to think we're supposed to be above the disciples? We need to be washing disciples' feet. We need to be loving and caring. I just find that for me, the prayer of prayers right now is, Lord, help us to turn from our wicked ways. Righteousness exalts a nation.

Sin is a reproach to any people. Proverbs 14, 34. And so with the national day of prayer, we're reminded again, Lord, we need your mercy. Lord, we need your wisdom. We need your guidance.

We need your strength. I do like the pastor from Alabama. Our leaders, they do need heavenly wisdom. And if Solomon couldn't do it, and he said, I can't, the wisest thing Solomon ever did was say, I'm not wise enough. Oh, talk about humility. And he said, I've got to have you, God. I need wisdom.

And he gave it. And for any leader, they ought to be praying, God, give me your wisdom, insight, heavily insight for earthly living. And then there's a component, we as we pray for our leaders. We want to experience peace. And how do you make wise decisions so that you have that peace? And then we get to live a godly life and make a difference in other people's lives.

So that's what I'd be praying. Lord, have this turn. And there's a couple things about that verse that just jumped out at me over the years, and they continue to jump out at me, 2 Chronicles 7.14. It starts out by saying, if my people, he isn't talking about the heathens out there.

No, that's right. He's saying, if my people that are called by my name, which by the way, if you're called a Christian, you fit the bill, right? If my people, who are called, not necessarily the people in Congress or whatever, I mean, hopefully those are people that are called by his name, but he's talking about me.

And the verse is aimed at me. And if my people, which again is aimed directly at Robby, will humble themselves, and as I was explaining to Dr. Carson, and I'll take a minute because I think this is so beautiful, it's what God showed me this morning as I was thinking about this very thing, is that humility is linked to the word poor and needy to a great extent. So poor and needy is a word used throughout, and it certainly, Jesus mentioned that, you know, blessed are the poor. And it's interesting that if you were to drive around Winston-Salem, you're gonna find the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, and if you look inside the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, you're gonna find some pretty poor and needy people. But if you look over the top of the Wachovia building, you're gonna find some people that probably don't think they're particularly poor and needy, and so to some extent, the poor realize that they're needy. Unfortunately, some people, the prideful people, including me at times, don't realize how needy that I am. And the way the word is formed in Hebrew is a picture language, is what you're looking at is trying to get a good look at faith, what God looks at.

And if you get a good look at God like Isaiah did, then you're gonna say, I'm a man of unclean lips and I hang out amongst people of unclean lips. In other words, you're gonna see how poor and needy you are almost immediately as Job did. Like, I've heard about you, but now I see you, and he was poor and needy in about a half a millisecond, right, as you would be. And so that idea of being poor and needy expressed is the fundamental root of the word humility. So when God said to Moses that he was the most humble servant, you know, in that explanation of humility, that word that God used there has exactly the same root as poor and needy. In other words, it's an I and a nun.

Those are the two letters. For those people who know Hebrew, the third letter is different than poor and needy in that it goes from the idea of an express word, a hey, to a vav. And that vav is just a straight line.

Everybody can draw it. And that vav is, in its own way, it's Jacob's ladder, but more than that, it's a hook to God. And so since Moses was there talking to God, immediately Moses would see, oh, man, I am poor. I mean, you know, I'm on holy ground. In other words, he had this constant idea of how big God was, and when you realize how big God is and how little you really know about him, then all of a sudden you become really, really, really needy, but that vav says he's hooked now, that when you're hooked, you are in prayer. It's that praying without ceasing because he's right there, and you realize that I really can't do anything. I can't even take my next breath, right, without having that idea of being hooked into. So if we just begin our prayers with understanding at whatever level, and hopefully more and more for me, and I hope more and more for you on how much we need God.

What's the song? I need thee every hour. It comes down to I need thee every second.

I need thee every second. I love this, that humility, the humble person is saying, God, I'm resting totally dependent on you. We need to grow in our dependence of God, not our independence of God.

That would be part of the turning from our wicked ways. I'm self-sufficient. No, I'm God-sufficient.

I gotta have him. So they're saying that humble, and then the next word is pray. Yes, pray. And my house is to be a house of prayer, right? And so often, we make it a house of a lot of things, but oh my goodness, if it's not connected to God. And it needs to be filled with adoration, praise. God inhabits the praise of his people.

And so those prayers start off, and you're just praising God for how great and how awesome, phenomenal he is. Oh, it's a beautiful, you know, again, that when you really see the beauty of what's in 2 Chronicles 7, 14, you realize that when you get totally laid out there in humility and totally see, oh yeah, how wicked I am in so many different ways. I mean, this is unthinkable how much sin is in my own life. It really is.

And just one given day. And so if I will really turn from that stuff and turn back to God, then all of a sudden, I become somewhat of a light. We go back to Isaiah 6, Robbie, where Isaiah sees God for who he is, and I use a statement, the closer you get to God, seeking his face, 2 Chronicles 7, 14, the closer you get to God, the more evident your sin becomes, because that holiness reveals how unclean you are. And now you cry out the humility that, God, I need your cleansing. I can't cleanse myself.

I need your cleansing. And that's where 1 John 1, 9 kicks in. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us of all of our unrighteousness, to cleanse us. Oh, what a God we have. And that's so cool, to seek his face, right?

That next word. By his hand, his face. Right, to seek his face. And I love what C.S. Lewis said about this idea that you just described of sin. He said, we all need to frequently get a whiff of our inner cesspool.

We want to show the world that we have our act together, that we're not broken, that we don't have all sorts of stuff going on inside of us, because we really have this opinion of ourselves that, fortunately, when you really get a look at God, it's like getting a big whiff of your inner cesspool, and you go, oh man, that don't, I cannot believe that's me, but it is me. It is me. And I'm not going to clean that up. It's going to take God's blood. It's going to take his forgiveness.

It's not going to be something that I can somehow or another work my way out of, right? I just got no chance at that deal. On the National Day of Prayers, we're bringing this show to a close. Their prayer was, God of hope, fill us with all joy and peace in believing so that we will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Oh God. Hope. We need your power. Yes, we do. The hope of your power.

How awesome is it? The National Day of Prayer. Keep it up, guys. We got a whole few hours left to keep praying. God bless. Truth Talk Live!
