Welcome to Truth Matters with Dr. Cheryl Davis. The Truth Train takes our study this week into the fifth chapter of the Book of Revelation and the seven judgments of God that shall trouble the earth during the great tribulation years. Now, Dr. Davis.

Hello, I'm Dr. Cheryl Davis, and you're listening to Truth Matters. We are continuing through the Book of Revelation. Today, we begin in chapter five, where the Lamb takes the scroll.

I titled this The Deed to the Earth. Last time we did chapter four, whose focus was on worshiping God the Creator. Chapter five is that same heavenly vision, and chapter four continued. But here we see the worship of the Redeemer. I don't know about you, but I'm sure you learned the Lord's Prayer as a child and the point where you recited, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. During the tribulation period, all heaven unites in praise as God prepares to answer the central request of this prayer, that the will of God be done on earth as it is in heaven.

I don't know if you know, but really you've been praying for the Lord to take over the earth and to establish his millennial reign on earth since you've been reciting the Lord's Prayer. Let's get into chapter five. We'll read verses one through fourteen. And I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll, written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals. Then I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the scroll and to loose its seals? And no one in heaven or on the earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look at it. So I wept much because no one was found worthy to open and read the scroll or to look at it.

But one of the elders said to me, Do not weep. Behold, the lion of the tribe of Judah, the root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals. And I looked and behold, in the midst of the throne and of the four living creatures. And in the midst of the elders stood a lamb as though it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.

Then he came and took the scroll out of the right hand of him who sat on the throne. Now, when he had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty four elders fell down before the lamb, each having a harp and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song saying, You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain and have redeemed us to God by your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation and have made us kings and priests to our God.

And we shall reign on the earth. Then I looked and I heard the voice of many angels around the throne, the living creatures and the elders, and the number of them was ten thousand times, ten thousand and thousands and thousands, saying with a loud voice, worthy is the lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and blessing. And every creature which is in heaven and on the earth and under the earth and such as are in the sea and all that are in them, I heard saying, blessing and honor and glory and power be to him who sits on the throne and to the lamb forever and ever. Then the four living creatures said, Amen. And the twenty four elders fell down and worshiped him who lives forever and ever. Notice in chapters four through five, the scene is in heaven, but once we get to chapter six through nineteen, the scene will be on earth.

And this chapter, as I said before, Christ is being worshiped as the Redeemer, where in chapter four he was being worshiped as the creator. First, let's focus on the scroll. In verse one, we see a scroll rolled up, written on the front and the back, indicating nothing can be added. It's been sealed with seven seals. This is the title deed to planet Earth. Revelation chapter five tells us what the title deed contains and what happens when the seven seals are released.

But to understand the scroll, you have to understand the historical perspective of a Roman scroll. The first portion is typically written and rolled up. The first seal is applied. The second portion is written and rolled up. The second seal is applied. In reading the scroll, that procedure is reversed. You remove the first seal, which is the outer seal, and read the first portion. As we see in the future chapters, at the seventh seal is the seven trumpets and at the seventh trumpet is the seven bowl judgments, which we'll get to that later. But within the seven seals are contained all the seals, trumpets and bowls, which are the judgments of God.
