Welcome to the show. Happy Tuesday to you, and it is going to be a hot one. You just heard Laura Huckabee with your forecast. She'll be along a little bit later on with more details, but it's going to be very, very hot, dangerously hot.
So be careful if you're going to get out and do the exercise. I saw a lot of you already out in the wee hours of the morning, which is the best time to do exercise these days. And we are hoping and praying the heat dome will eventually dissipate. I don't know, by Thanksgiving. Who knows?
We've got a great show for you. Our good friend Congressman Tim Burchett is dropping by a little bit later on. And of course, we'll be taking your calls. A lot of news coming out of Collierville last night. A lot of residents really fired up over this town administrator and citizens coming out and standing up for employees.
Who have been fired or have come under fire as a result of the behavior of the town administrator? We'll get into that in just a little while. I know many of you were at the meeting, gave speeches last night, and it's really interesting what's going on over in Collierville right now. Our telephone number: 901-260-5926. That's 901-260-5926.
County Commission meeting last night, and they're spending more of your money. We'll tell you what they're spending that money on as well. But the starting point today are these AI data centers that are going up all over the country, and especially right here in the Mid-South. As a matter of fact, the largest AI computer, Colossus, built right here in the Mid-South. And there is a big controversy brewing in South Haven.
And I'm fascinated by this. And the question. Is, do we need the data centers? And if we're going to have AI, we have to have these data centers. The question then becomes: all right, where do we put the data centers?
And that has become a fierce battle. And you wonder if a lot of this is simply because this is Elon Musk and his company that we're talking about. I thought it was interesting that City Hall was hosting a big job fair yesterday, the city spending millions of your tax dollars to get kids jobs, when in fact you've got many at City Hall that are going after and attacking these data centers.
So, you know, you can't have it both ways. You've got Justin Pearson out there leading the charge, trying to shut down all of these data centers, bringing in a lot of revenue into the Mid-South. And so the question is: all right, Justin Pearson, if you're going to kick Elon Musk out of Memphis and if we're going to kick him out of DeSoto County, what kind of businesses are you guys proposing come here? Because right now, all I see are a lot of people packing up and leaving Memphis. And here's a guy, Elon Musk, coming in and dumping tens of millions, maybe hundreds of millions of dollars into our local economy.
But anyway, there's a guy not, but there is a legitimate other side to this. And there's a guy by the name of Jason Haley. I do not know this person. He is a homeowner, a resident of South Haven. And he woke up one day and he was like, What in the world is that?
And he describes the sound coming from these data centers as a constant whirring, like an airplane hovering over his home.
So the noise has been keeping him and his family awake for quite some time.
So two he mister Haley and two other residents, they live within a mile of the AI data center. And they're filing they file a lawsuit and they say there is near constant noise and vibrations are causing a negative physical and psychological health impact. And he's got all of this data, or at least, I'm sorry, these emails to back up his arguments. He had been reaching out to South Haven Mayor Darren Musselwhite about the noise. He shared all of these emails with CBS News.
I'm not sure the response from City Hall actually helped matters.
So last November, he urged the mayor just to drive through the neighborhood and listen to the high-pitched noises. And the mayor responded by saying yes, that he was aware of the noise and he was working on a solution with XAI. The mayor said it is a problem.
So anyway, nothing ever happens. And the the noise gets worse. The family, they got the ringing of the ears. And he says, I I you can't live like this.
So back and forth, back and forth they go. And mister Haley spoke up. And he decided, you know what, I'm going to get involved here. And so he became a part of a group, a coalition called Safe and Sound, drawing what they say is awareness to concerns about X AI in the region. And he said, quote, telling CBS, I've never been into any kind of activism, never really kept up with politics a whole lot.
I'm just a guy that has a problem with this noise, and started speaking out and trying to raise awareness.
So, again, I don't know the background of this guy, but he sounds like a regular Joe who owns a house. They built a data center, and now the guy can't sleep. City Hall acknowledges there's a problem.
So the guy. The guy emails the mayor again in December. And he told the mayor, I am not a Republican or a Democrat. I don't care that this is Elon's project. I don't know whose I didn't know whose it was when I started complaining about the noise that started in August.
So the mayor responded and said, You seem like a reasonable person. I will give you some unsolicited advice from an older man. Be careful with whom you associate so you don't damage your credibility. What the heck? That sounds like a threat.
Anyway. Then Later on, the mayor tells the guy, this is terrible, that maybe he just ought to move. Maybe that's the right. Just sell your house and move. But the question is, and ladies and gentlemen, I ask you.
Would Would you would you live near a a data center? Yeah. And here's another question. You folks in Germantown and Collierville, Bartlett. How about this?
We got a lot of empty warehouses in downtown Memphis. Would you guys like one of those data centers in your area? 901-260-5926. That's 901-260-5926. We already have people wanting to weigh in on this.
Let's go to Dean in East Memphis. Dean, what do you think about that? I feel bad for the guy, but at the same time, we got to have the data center. It's kind of like you got to have a garbage dump somewhere. Yeah, yeah, I it I get it and I've known Darren for the years uh And and it's it's I mean, I guess it got the the The emails for the receipts and everything, I I saw a post by a guy that lives in South Haven.
He was standing out in his backyard, and the data center was a half a mile away from his. His house. He had a noise meter and that thing was at ninety six decibels, a half a mile away. Wow. Yeah, it's uh he said it's constant.
24-7-365. You know, they should. They should do the same thing like with solar panels and stuff like that, instead of putting them out in farmers' fields and stuff, put them up on top of buildings. But they should put those data centers Whether it's not I mean, I know we gotta have'em. But you know Here's the thing, Dean.
XAI knows they have a problem because they're spending millions of dollars trying to fix this by building sound walls and putting in trees, a berm. And by the way, this is all coming from the mayor.
So he posted something on Facebook.
So that tells me they do have a problem. And I feel bad for these people because you're right. With that kind of noise, you can't get any sleep, and that's going to drive you crazy. Yes, sir. Have a good one.
Dean, thank you. You know what really bothers me, ladies and gentlemen, and that's the great Dean Franklin. He has a great podcast, by the way. You ought to check that out. What really bothers me about all of this is that they're now trying to turn this around and say anybody who opposes a data center.
Is somehow a liberal or a leftist. That's insane. Because that's not what this is about. This is about these people that have homes, they have property, they just want to be able to live their lives, and now they've got to deal with these, well, with the sound of an airplane hovering over their home.
So, anyway, I'm curious to hear your thoughts on this. 901-260-5926. That's 901-260-5926. There's a study, they said. Get this, that a constant humming or buzzing.
And by the way, they're even telling people now: don't even sleep with like your smartphones or any sort of. Computer devices in your bedroom because all of that humming or buzzing, all that stuff, it actually disturbs your sleep.
So, if that's going to disturb your sleep, can you imagine what the humming from a data center? And you just heard Dean there with the eyewitness account. That's troubling.
So, anyway, now, and then you've got Justin Pearson out there saying, well, this is all about racism. No, it's really not. But at the same time, you have to ask yourself, where do we put these data centers? 901-260-5926, our telephone number. That's 901-260-5926.
Coming up, we've got Tim Burchett, Congressman East Tennessee, joining us. Gotta take a quick break. Let's check it with Commander Chalk. Did you know there's an investment account that's been around since 1888, and most people have never heard about it until recently? It's not stocks, it's not crypto, it's a trust that was created over a century ago, and it's been averaging 29% returns for the past 25 years.
To put that into perspective, it beat Apple, it beat Amazon, it beat Microsoft over that same period. BlackRock has over $2 billion sparked here. JPMorgan, Bank of America, some of the biggest banks in the world have been quietly using this for decades, and they've never mentioned it to regular people. There are no commercials, no billboards, nothing, and literally anyone can start. You just need a few hundred dollars.
There's a free video that explains exactly what it is and how to access it, and it's 100% worth your time. Go to myaccount29.com to check it out. That's my account, the numbers29.com. MyAccount29.com Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right, grab some iced tea, everybody.
It's gonna be a hot one out there. By the way, We can't talk just about the controversy surrounding this, but also the good things that SpaceX AI is doing in Memphis. And some exciting news for you students at Fairleigh High School and faculty. SpaceX AI spent a ton of money to completely renovate the high school gymnasium, locker rooms, classrooms, and restrooms. SpaceX AI Memphis saying we're proud to work with our local schools and community to complete upgrades that will benefit students and teachers.
We're excited to keep working with Memphis schools to inspire the next generation of explorers on the road to making life multi-planetary.
So there you go. I wonder if they uh gave the kids earplugs too. Just throw that out there. And I don't want to be, you know, you don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but maybe if SpaceX just passed, or one of the noise canceling headphones, that might work. Welcome back, everybody.
901-260-5926, our telephone number. Want to give a big shout out to our friends over at Ernestine and Hazel's. Are you ready for this? Named one of the 25 legendary Southern dive bars.
Southern Living putting out their list, and they have named the legendary, they're calling it the legendary Ernestine and Hazels as one of the top dive bars in America. They call it the this spooky spot is Memphis' most infamous haunt. Are there really ghosts here? We'll leave that for you to decide. Ernestine and Hazel's has had many past lives since the 1930s, a pharmacy, beauty salon, restaurant.
Over the years, legends like B.B. King, Ray Charles, Bo Diddley made their way to the club paradise stage, walked over to Ernestine and Hazel's afterwards. Today, it remains one of Memphis' favorite dives, famous for its soul burger and great jukebox.
So, anyway, congratulations there. Always nice to see Memphis businesses and restaurants getting some national attention. If you've got a favorite southern dive bar here in the Mid-South, give us a call: 901-260-5926. Our number, that's 901-260-5926. Let's go to the phone lines.
Justin and Collierville. Wants to weigh in on that big meeting last night. All right, Justin, give us the details. What's the team? Good morning, or to Cyrville.
Good morning, Todd, and also Cyrville, if you're listening.
So last night's meeting didn't go too long. They had about twenty one minutes. I actually pulled a comment card, and we're just so tired of all the drama that is happening. In town hall and this administration, we have no clear answers, we have no transparency.
So, what I asked for last night. Was an independent investigation into the town administration because we've had conflicting statements. the reason why they fired Chief Silberg, they said that he used profanity and that he doesn't answer to the town administrator. But you have one person that says that and then the Chief says he didn't say that.
So we need answers on that. There's also been overpayment to the town administrator of the tune of over $14,000. We've had the public information officer actually write an opinion piece using her official title, depending the town administrator. And there's been a history of retaliation against Employees are, you would call them, whistleblowers reporting problems with the town administration and. Specifically around contracts and how they're how they're handled.
So So put all this to rest. to find out the answers. We need to bring somebody independently in To investigate all this.
So that way there's not any fear of retaliation of employees if they give truthful answers. And this just isn't a good look for our town. We need a more professional uh town government that doesn't look more like The city of Memphis of the Shelby County government right now. I I think it's really shocking a lot of people. I mean, and Collierville's a pretty big town.
A lot of people don't realize Collierville has a larger population than Germantown. What you guys, what, over 50,000 citizens.
So it's a good sized city. And you would think that things would be a little bit more orderly there. Yeah, well, I think when you got too many people that got their hands in the cookie jar, this is what you necessarily get. But I will tell you. Every single alderman candidate last night was it was in attendance.
So, I just don't see how this doesn't become a bigger election issue. A lot of those, you know, aldermen. They're on the ballot, so I don't see why they wouldn't want transparency, all this, and just to put all the facts out there, this is why we handled this. But they're hiding behind lawyers right now. All right.
Before we let you go, Justin, I know that you're heavily involved with VFW, and you guys are in the middle of a major fundraiser to expand that parking lot, which is much needed. What's going on down there, and how can our listeners help out? Yeah, so that place was built in the 40s.
So in the 40s, you had one car per household. It wasn't like now you got probably three.
So anytime you have a large event there, parking is an issue.
So our commander, Brad Bell, he's leaving, paving the way our parking lot project. I think the goal is $150,000. They're about halfway there. If you go to their Facebook page, I believe that they have some information listed there.
Okay. If you want to make a donation. All right. The VFW, they're in Collierville. Justin Johnson, keeping an eye on things out in the burbs.
Justin, good to hear from you this morning, my friend. Gonna hear from you this morning, Todd. By the way, you know, a lot of people wonder where Elon spends the night when he's in. When he's in Memphis, you know, he's here quite a bit because they're building all of these data centers. I would anybody want to take a wild guess where Elon actually spends the night?
Anybody want to throw? I would, if you were just asking where he's right out of the gate, I would say the Peabody Hotel. And he would be at the top of the new, you know, they got the hotel within the hotel now. I think he would be staying at the high dollar rate. Rooms there at the Peabody.
Yeah. No, it turns out that Elon Musk actually. Stays in an Airstream trailer while he's in Memphis.
So he also has been known to sleep on the factory floor.
So, my question is, and again, I'm just throwing this out. I understand that the noise is a thing. But if Elon can get a good night's rest I'm just saying. I'm just saying. 901-260-5926 is our telephone number.
By the way, U.S. Postal Service. Hiring new positions in Memphis. Big, big job fair. A lot of people turning out.
I pray to Almighty God that some of those people are going to be working at the Germantown Post Office. We need help down there. All right, hang tight, Congressman Tim Burchett, on the way. Your calls as well: 901-260-5926. We'll be right back.
All right, I know we've got. Got a lot of folks that listen to the show out on the farm, a lot of farms across West Tennessee, and want to say a very good morning. You guys have been up for a while, it's almost lunchtime for the farmers here in West Tennessee. This information coming from the Farm Bureau, which, by the way, we broadcast exclusively the Farm Bureau on KWAM. But the good news is a very strong harvest for Tennessee farmers, which is great news.
In spite of all of this dry weather, the Farm Bureau says weather is not the biggest concern, though. There is one challenge: farmers dealing with the rising cost of diesel fuel and fertilizer.
So, Leo Maddox with the Tennessee Farm Bureau says all of that rain in late June and July helped crops recover, and now the dry weather helping those farmers get the equipment into the field.
So. God bless all of the great farmers. Here in the Mid-South. Before we go to Tim Burchett. Want to share a story with you.
And again, it's easy to get sucked into the notion that Memphis is a horrible place. It's not a horrible place. We're just dealing with violent crime, and we've got to get this figured out. And I just wish, here's the thing: I truly believe that Mayor Paul Young is a good man in his heart. He's a great husband.
He's a great father. And I think those are the true measures of a man, somebody who takes care of his family. I think the challenge with Paul Young is he needs to know. That there are a lot of people out there. who will support him, stand alongside of him, if he were to truly crack down.
On crime. I want to see my mayor walking the streets with a baseball bat. That's what I want to see. And that's really what we need here. We need that sort of mentality coming from city leaders.
We've got to put down this violence, and that's the only way that it's going to work. But hear me on this. We live in a great town. I want to share a story with you. This is from Martin Luther King Jr.
High School. the uh football uh football team there.
So there's a young man apparently at the school, and I'm just going to, I want to, I do want to set this in racial terms for just a moment to make a point. The there's a white kid at the school, he was getting bullied. For three weeks. And we don't know a lot about this kid. We're working on that.
So we're, and I'll tell you why we're working on it in just a minute.
So this kid was apparently wearing the same clothes to school every day. Probably kid didn't doesn't have a lot of money. And there were a couple of football players from the high school. And they saw that this kid was being bullied, and they came to the kid's defense. And then these two football players, who happen to be black young men.
They went out and got this kid close.
So that he wouldn't have to wear the same clothes to school. I just don't know if that young kid, that white kid, understands. Understands what what happened. There And the reality is that those two young men on that high school football team at Martin Luther King Jr. High School changed that kid's life, changed his trajectory.
Um there in that high school. And that is the kind of spirit and and attitude that we have in this in this town. And this is why I love Memphis, because we are looking out for everybody, and that's what this is all about, happening at this high school. We're going to find out. We want to be able to honor these two young men on the and I know they didn't do it.
As a matter of fact, somebody shot video of it. These kids, it was very clear, very obvious that these young men did not know they were being filmed. We want to find out we're going to find out who these kids are. And then we're going to work with one of the locally owned clothing stores, and we're going to make sure this young man is taken care of, and he doesn't have to show up at school wearing the same clothes. But God bless these boys for doing what they did.
And I guarantee you they took their own money and they bought this kid that looks like some shoes. And some other things.
So, God bless these great kids. Great city we live in, ladies and gentlemen. And we love sharing those kinds of stories here on The Mighty 990. 901-260-5926. By the way, if you'd like to be a part of that effort, you just give us a call and we'll give you some information on that as well.
901-260-5926. Congressman Tim Burchett joining us on The National Show, and here's that conversation. Congressman, first, I know you're out there on the campaign trail. You're working hard. How are things going in East Tennessee?
They're going incredibly well, and thank you for asking. But I think people need to be very cognizant of what's going on. This will be a nonpresidential year.
So Traditionally, numbers will be down. And we're seeing a lot of money flowing into these so called Democrat Socialist candidates. They're really just communists, but they're just sort of soft on it. They're friendly communists, I guess you could say. They um and I would warn people to be very very uh Very vigilant in their voting.
And I was at a little Christian school. last week, I think it was. And they asked me what would be my wish for young people, and it would be that they'd be bold. I wish they would be bold. I wish our preachers would preach the gospel, quit worrying about offending people.
And I wish young people would stand out more. In the classroom, among their peers, in other places. I always Remember, I had a psychology class at the University of Tennessee, and it was during the Reagan years, and it was one of those required classes. It was like a double classroom. They moved the divider so everybody could take this mandatory class.
And I spent most of my time the teacher would attack Reagan just constantly. And she was uh very left wing. And I would always stand up to the president. I'm pretty sure at least caused me one letter grade. I'm not sure.
But I always remember when I would leave class. I'd walk out and without a doubt somebody would come up to me and say, Man, I really appreciate you standing up. President Reagan or whatever are our views. And I always say, well, why didn't you all stand? Why didn't you stand up?
Well, you know. And I mean, I get it. There's people like there's Todd Stearns and Tim Merchants in the world. that are going to stand up. Regardless, but the rest of the population needs to start paying attention and standing up.
To that point, while things are going great in East Tennessee, here in the western part of the state, the newly redrawn 9th congressional district, you have a full-blown socialist, Justin Pearson, running against state senator Brent Taylor, a good friend of mine, and yours. They brought AOC to Memphis, and there in a large mega church, the pastor got up and said, Jesus was a socialist. All of us ought to be socialists. And the crowd just jumped to their feet, roared with approval.
So this is not something that's just happening in Berkeley or New York City. It's happening right here in the state of Tennessee as well. Yes, sir. We had Betsy Henderson, our new county mayor in Knox County, a very conservative young lady who I Helped out, did a video for her, which I rarely do on local races, but. They came within 5,000 votes of meeting her in Knox County, Tennessee, 5,000 votes.
A guy that was that had marched with Maduro. in in in the march and this was just this wasn't They called it youthful indiscretions. I mean, it was just five years ago, Dodd. And in the march, he wore a shirt. clearly visible a hammer and sickle.
Child. I think we better wake up about what we're doing in this country and where we're headed because we are headed down a very Dark path. may always say socialism is delivered at the ballot box and and communisms at the point of a at the point of a bayonet. And at this point, I don't there's not a lot of differentiation between the two. And I hope we start paying attention.
I do too, Congressman. I still go back to Friday, the twenty-fifth anniversary of the 9/11 Muslim terrorist attacks, and the video of The man weeping at the memorial, they're reading the names of the victims of that horrible day. And then they cut to an image of Mayor Zoron Mamdami and AOC laughing and yucking it up. And this is why those families did not want him there in the first place. One hundred percent.
And he he proved their point. And I'm disgusted that they allowed him to do it. I guess it was the mayor. They didn't have any choice. But We've got to realize that there are people in this world They don't like us at all.
They want to destroy this country and they're anarchists. And um You know, we've been labeled. There's all the titles they give people like me and you for saying stuff like this. But the truth is. Um is that is exactly what they're doing, and we are falling trap.
In the trap of the media. And the left wing intelligentsia and these college professors that when we call them out, we're intolerant. And it's just to me, it's just We are gonna Um They're not going to do it. With a guy, and we're just going to give it to him if we're not careful. And I sure hope we wake up.
Congressman, I know that you're one of the few. I mean, what you say is what you mean and what you do up on Capitol Hill, and we appreciate that. But I think there are a lot of people that are concerned, and I am one of them, that we may not end up doing well in the midterms. The messaging just seems to be all over the place. What's going on?
What's happening? I think you're saying. Um the woke nature of some of these corporations down Deep, you're looking at big oil. their profits are through the roof right now and they're sticking it to us using this this uh inst this this instant Uh um Yeah. What?
with uh the the fighting and and um And and I ran. To jack up our prices. Let me read you something. It just uh a man in the oil business sent this to me. And you know, he's he's profiting.
incredibly, but he's just saying this is just wrong. And he said, um He's talking about diesel. The price of diesel is at $6.
Well, heck, it's hit $10 a gallon in California. But the refiner's margin. Um Is $110 per barrel. That's $2.61 per gallon. It's typically $15 per barrel or 35 cents per gallon.
So they've gone from 35 cents. To fit to um to two dollars and sixty one cents. And that's their profits they're making. And so Um I think that they um Yeah. And that's per gallon.
That's per gallon they're making.
So they are ripping us off. M You know, and Republican is gutturous Republicans and Democrats, frankly. They're in bed with them, Todd. They come to, we'll have them in a hearing when, you know, this is all over, and they'll. And they'll shower us legally with money.
Not me, of course, because I've been raising hell about it. And but the truth is, they're just ripping us off. And I've talked to people in the industry. And they agree with me that they are that are making big profits off this stuff, but they're selling me. Yeah.
We're ripping you off, and we're allowed to do it because we're using this as an excuse. We get zero. Out of a strike. and we are exporting it right now. And I and people are going to freak out when I say this, but we better get some.
controls. We need to limit how much diesel we're exporting right now. If we kept 25% of it here, more. prices would plummet. They would plummet.
And I'm proposing legislation to do just that, to limit the amount that they can export because they are sticking it to us knowing they can do it. And it's an American industry, and there ought to be some responsibility within those corporations to take care of America, and they're not. They're sticking it to us worse than anybody. Congressman Tim Burchett joining us on our Patriot Mobile newsmaker line today. Congressman, you look at Gen Z voters, they really just feel like That they're not being heard when it comes to issues regarding affordability.
And sometimes I do wonder if those folks inside that bubble in the White House and in the administration, if they actually go shopping at the local supermarket, because I know I do, and I can tell you the prices are going up. And the idea that some of these kids who are working good jobs can't afford to put that down payment on a house, that is, if we don't address that, those kids are going to go somewhere else. Yeah, that short term. financial gain your portfolio. Um it will be When all these things are nationalized under a socialist agenda, which is their ultimate goal, I mean, they're playing right into their hands by doing this.
you know, they're because they're forcing us all into In the in the slapping them back. And the truth is, Todd, if we don't do something, We could lose everything. We lose those midterm elections, and it's over, and we better start addressing it. Congressman, you're right. We just had Greg Bavino on the last segment, and he says that Border Patrol agents, ICE, they're all upset right now because they are ready to do the job that President Trump wanted them to do.
But Homeland Security is not letting them do that. And I just hope that the Republicans understand that we really did want mass deportations. Oh, one hundred percent. I mean, if you're here illegally, dead gummy, you need to go out legally. It's just it's No different than somebody breaking into your home.
If somebody breaks into my daddy home, They're probably going to go out in a box. And then but but if we break into our country, We give them a cell phone and we give them everything they got, all the comforts that they need at home or more so. And um And that's exactly what they want to do. These Democrat Socialists, they want to open that border up. They want that anarchy.
Right. locotopia type situation. And boy, we will get it if we're not careful. If we are not careful. Um I can't.
The law is the law, Todd, and we ought to start paying attention to it. And I hope you are having a great start to your morning wherever you are in the Mid-South. By the way, the Bobcat still apparently on the loose in South Haven. You know, who do you look in Memphis? You got wildlife of another kind prowling, roaming the streets.
In South Haven, you have an honest to goodness bobcat.
Now, they're telling us that the bobcats are not dangerous to humans. They say they're basically just like giant, lovable house cats. I'm not a big cat guy.
So anyway, I don't think I would say here, kitty, kitty, if you see the bobcat coming your way, but just be on the lookout there. By the way, this is exciting news.
