Back from the combine in Indianapolis, getting set for franchise tags and new league year. That's where we are on the NFL calendar. It's time for overreaction Monday here on a Monday.
Spoiler alert, Rich Eisen, along with Christopher Brockman. How are you buddy? How was Indy? You know what? Same as it ever was, but I kind of dig that. Yeah, of course. I didn't run into a single human there.
A single human that says, you know what? We're done with Indianapolis. Oh, good. The NFL's sensibilities of maybe moving this around. Making it a road show. Well, the idea is, and obviously we'll get to the meat of this, is there's some thought that Indianapolis is great for the medical testing, the interviewing process, and everything else, the meetings portion of it, the NFL players association meeting with agents and all of that.
So bring the prospects to Indianapolis for that. You don't maybe need four days for that because you won't have the on field stuff because the on field stuff will be removed from all of that. And that's what will travel. Oh, interesting.
And so you travel the on field drills portion of it just around the country, like the draft, like the calendar and the timeline. What it would do is just create more travel for everybody. Right. It would just create more of a, well, what it would do, it would take them out of their comfort zone.
It would take everybody out of the, this is what it is. And I think everybody digs the convenience and the, you know, the, the down home aspect of Indianapolis. Where there's, if any, you know, if anybody's been in Indianapolis, Lucas oil is right downtown within three, four block walking distance of half dozen hotels, at least more than that. And every restaurant where the Pacers play is two blocks away. So it's all right there. It's all there. And so you come into town on a Monday and by Sunday it's all over.
But like that part of that, that is the sense I got it's in Indianapolis for sure. The whole shooting match next year. I, after that, I haven't done that. Who knows? Yeah. So, all right. So it's overreaction Monday, Chris Brockman. Let's get to it.
Hit it. That was terrible. That was crap.
That was garbage. Just like overreaction Mondays, Monday. What's up, Christopher. You know what, when you come back from the Combine Rich on the flagship show, my, my absolute favorite segment is, is the rumors.
I talked you into doing this a few years ago, and I'm so glad that you have embraced it and let it become kind of a life of its own. I hope I'm not stepping on too many of those. I'm just kind of, we I'm just speculating. You actually heard some stuff. So I did. I did. I did. I did. I did again, but I don't know if I'm, if it's as juicy as you think it normally is.
I just don't know. Last year it was pretty juicy. I know every year it is, but all right, let's just get right to it. Just basing on what I've been seeing just online and whatnot, and watching some of the coverage, the Titans won't be making the first overall pick. Someone's going to move up. I don't think that that's an overreaction. If you flipped it and say the Titans aren't trading the pick, they're using it.
I would say that's not an overreaction either. Nobody knows what the Titans are, are thinking right now. I didn't get a general sense of that.
I did on occasion because we had, let me see six, but I mean, w 21 hours over four days of live television that I just hosted with Daniel Jeremiah. On occasion, just getting ready for somebody around a 40, I would turn to him and say, all right, before this kid starts running, give me the answer. Go, go, go. And one of them was Titans use the first pick or trade it.
Go. And he goes, they're going to use it. So that's his sensibility of it. And his ear is way more down to the ground than mine is because he knows every scout. He knows every general manager. He knows pretty much everybody and they all trade tell him stuff because they want to know what he thinks too.
And he's so terrific about what to say and when not to say it or what to say and not reveal it to anybody, whether it's on camera, off camera, he's awesome. So when he says they're going to use it, that's the general sense of it. And over the next week, it was already reported today by Ian Rappaport that Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter, and both quarterbacks are coming through in the next week.
So no clue, absolutely no clue. The, the sense though, about who's taking a quarterback, you would, if you had to choose any of the top three Titans Browns giants of who is going to take a quarterback with those picks 100%, 100% that you want to take a guess at the team that I heard more than any other. I think it's Cleveland. It is correct.
Yeah. It's Cleveland. So as for the Titans, either way, you could have, you could have, you could have gone in the other direction.
No one's moving up for this pick. How did the Abdul Carter injury non-surgery news hit in Indy? It's again, it's it's we're not the medical, the medical is going to medical and the coaches are going to coach and the scouts are going to scout. And it's all part of the equation and a piece of the puzzle.
You hear it. It's just like, well, this is, this is dangerous. Why would anybody take a risk? Especially if he's not getting surgery, you should just get surgery and be done with it. And then that's fixed.
And then people would be like, well, if you needed surgery, then why would you take somebody who needed surgery? Like, how is he going to respond to that? It's not the same body part officially now. And, and then, well, you know what? He played with it and look with the way he looked. And this is just, this is why there's a combine because it's like, Hey pal, are you aware you've been playing with this?
Like that's the way it came up. I always love that when like, did you know in the 10th grade you broke your arm? I tell that story all the time because in one of my first combines I ever went to, I forget which one it was probably two or three.
When I started really getting curious about what this mysterious event was. And I would stroll around before going on the air, just hitting every room. I've been in every room. I've been in meeting rooms with kids when they're on the grease board for, uh, or the whiteboard for their interviews. I've sat in those I've, I've walked through the medical exam room, um, and interview doctors, just chit, chit, chit, chatting with them, not like with a camera officially.
And they would say that they would find, you know, by looking at X-rays fissures or, uh, healed bones that were broken, that the person to whom the bones belonged did not know. I love that. And it appears to be the case with Abdul Carter.
And so they went and through their own process and said, we're not going to, we're not going to have surgery. And so, I don't know, that's again, part of the equation with everything and everybody else, which is why at the end of the day, Travis Hunter may be the most to use the phrase clean of anybody and surefire of anybody. Is Travis Hunter part of this?
Let me just hit this too. Daniel, when we come on the air on defensive back night on Friday night, you know, when we pop up on the screen, his top defensive back, there is Travis Hunter, number two overall on his draft board. And then it's time on Saturday for the whiteouts top whiteouts on the board.
There's Travis Hunter, number two overall on his draft board, but number one in the wide receiver. I mean, I've never seen anything like it now. It's wild. So I don't know.

Savings vary, subject to terms, conditions and availability. Allstate Fire and Casualty Insurance Company and Affiliates, Northbrook, Illinois. Love watching the QBs spin it on Saturday and, you know, a position group that is deep in this draft running back, Rich, I think at least six quarterbacks and running backs combined go in the first round. I think three quarterbacks go in the first round because I think Jackson Dart is going to get taken the end of the first round. And the only question is, is it by somebody who's just going to use their draft choice on them or is it going to be somebody who trades to go get him? And that's just going to be a fascinating question over the next seven weeks. Running backs, Hampton, Gente. I don't think there's going to be, it would have to be a fourth quarterback to hit this quota. So I'll call this an overreaction.
Oh, no, Trevion. He doesn't sneak in. He had a good first round. I know he had a good weekend.
I know he had a good, but I mean, there's a lot of good. I've seen some mocks of him in the first round. I wouldn't be surprised, but there's a lot of really good offensive and defensive linemen. That's true. And then the handful of, of corners and safeties that might have first round grades. And by the time it's all said and done out in the wash, um, you know, running backs, as you know, are always the ones that drop because they have, well, then I hear us.
It's at right. It hasn't been two in the first round since like 2018 or so. That's why three would be a tough one. Cause I don't know if there's going to be a fourth quarterback in the first round. That would be a surprise. Three running backs would be a surprise.
And four quarterbacks would be a surprise. So I'll take this as an overreaction. All right. How about this one?
Uh, it did not work out over the weekend. Famously. He looked great. Should door Sanders. Yes. He's going to fall out of the top 10. No way. Not a chance. That would be a stunner. That would be an absolute stunner, an absolute stunner.
No way. There's two things. One he's really good too.
There's too many quarterback needy teams that will just push him and keep him from falling out of the top 10. Uh, you know, he had a permer smile on his face. It got the only time he did not have a smile on his face is when we popped up on the screen while he was standing there on the sideline, Dion texting me that Jimmy horn was his number one son right now. I did see that. But other, other than, and then we had, we had him in his, he had no smile and was just shaking his head.
It was like a sitcom almost, you know, uh, like the Sanders show. No, no way. I just think again, it's just the same thing.
We'll talk about it, you know, on the flagship. And, um, for weeks, I think she door is learning what it's like to be a Sanders, where everybody thinks certainly when he shows up with what looks like six figures of, of stones around his neck, a lot of, I know, I know. Great. And everyone thinks that's what he's about and that he's not about being serious about the craft. And I think everyone's going to learn the, the, you know, the hard way, if they let him drop that he's just like his dad, where there's a certain amount of, um, flash that you think is exactly what he's about when there's a seriousness in a professionalism that that's beneath the surface that will come to the fore when it comes to winning time.
So I don't think he's fallen out of the top 10 at all. No way, man. What do you think the Raiders are going to pass up a chance on him? You think, uh, it just seems like maybe you could trade back and get it, get him still.
I don't know about you. I don't think so because, you know, after Abdul Carter and after, um, Travis Hunter and Gente might be the other guy who's just kind of surefire, right? I mean, there's not, there's not another, and Cam Ward is potentially in the position of dropping himself, depending on your evaluation. Um, you're, you're, you know, a lot of people are putting will Campbell to your Patriots, right? He's got short arms, short arms.
His arms look great on the tape all year. I get it. But when it comes down to it, you know, uh, I th there's not like last year where there were so many other quarterbacks and a wide receiver that was going to be top five to push somebody out of the top 10.
I just don't see it. He's just talking about some of the free agents. So Kirk cousins, Russell Wilson, Sam Darnold, those are three guys, Aaron Rogers. Every one of them can also be paired with a rookie quarterback. That's true. I just don't know if teams are going to do that based on maybe learning from the Falcons, quote unquote mistake last year, man, uh, every last one of those, including Sam Darnold, who was, and Kirk cousins, who was paired with a rookie quarterback last year, you know, the Falcons got to spend 90 million on Kirk for about 10, 10 game dozen games. And that's their, that was teams might want to make that mistake again. Well, none of those quarterbacks are going to have a 90 million in their first two years of their contracts either. Not to be expected. I don't know.
We'll see what happens with Sam, but yeah, that's an overreaction. Hey, rich Eisen here. I hear from a lot of business owners like you about the work it takes to pursue your passions. Restrictions apply. All right, let's talk some moves here. Rich, while you're gone, Matthew Stafford staying in LA with him, staying put the NFC West Rams division to lose in 2025. I totally agree. I absolutely totally agree. I was so excited to see that Stafford and the Rams could find the common ground. Made sense for absolutely every last one of them.
It would have been madness otherwise. For both. And I understand there's a business side of it for the Rams, and there's a personal side of it for Stafford. And a sensibility of being paid what one is worth when there are so many other of his colleagues who haven't done a fraction of what he's done. A and his career B within just his tenure in Los Angeles, just the last couple of years, getting paid in the mid fifties, just because it's their time and it was their second contract.
This is his umpteenth contract of his career. The Rams were the closest to preventing the Eagles from being world champs than any other team that was in front of the Eagles in their path to becoming world champs. Period. End of story. And the Rams did it in the snow from Los Angeles, which was on fire at the time that they did it.
So in terms of their own personal lives and having to travel all the way across the country and play the Eagles in a snowstorm and then have Saquon do what he did against them again and still have the ball right at the red zone with a chance to win it means run it back, run it back. I'm dying to see the numbers. I'm dying to see what the find out with the money.
And you know what, whatever it is, because the report out there was that, you know, giants or Raiders, whoever was in the 90 to a hundred guaranteed range. That's part of, um, now you're, you're entering my top five list. Oh, interesting. Okay. Good. So, you know, um, all I'm saying is you are not wrong. Okay. Arizona, could they take a step forward and be, be the team to finish the way that they started last year? Absolutely.
San Francisco. I thought you might push, push back on San Francisco, but dude, I mean, Deebo's a commander. Let's see, you know, is, is, is Pearsall ready to, to step in? Like maybe on the block, uh, Pearsall suddenly and Juwan Jennings become the number ones there. I see, I see. They're going to have to do it with, without the bold face names in certain spots that we're used to seeing and having them go on their run as McCaffrey a hundred percent going into next year. The, the, the move that I'm particularly pleased about is solid returning to be that defensive coordinator. Yeah.
That's a huge booth. So, you know, uh, and then there's Seattle clearly, but the Rams showed you what they did. And all of those young kids are just going to be more seasoned and they're still really young kids.
And after F and all them picks for years, less need shows you what he can do when he actually uses them. Right. Okay.
So damn straight. This is not an overreaction. All right. Great.
All right. Two more. Uh, Richie just mentioned Deebo Samuel, uh, the move to the commanders for a fifth rounder, uh, Washington takes on all of his salary. Adding Deebo puts the commanders as the team to beat in the NFC. Come on, bro. I'm very excited about this move.
Very excited about this. A lot of free agents. Stop it.
Stop it. Eagles had a lot of free agents who might not be coming back. Um, they're, they're, they're not named Hertz or Brown or Smith or anyone on their offensive line, other than Bechten.
They're not, you know, Zach Bond is one of them. We'll see how, how he handles that. But then again, he's the one who signed Zach Bond and the coaching staff, at least that side of the ball is not changing that coordinator Vic Fangio stay in there, brother, get out of here. I'm very excited about the commanders.
I'm very excited about what Jayden Daniels can do. It is 1 million percent. The latest sign that the commanders are a functional group, not dysfunctional. They have an owner who delegates to people who have a clear-eyed, full-hearted, can't lose mentality who aren't insane inside that front office.
They're not insane in the owner's office. You've got an owner who says, spend it. We're 80 million under the cap.
Spend it. Adam Peters, fifth round choice. You want to spend 20 million bucks on a wide receiver that, you know, from your time there and you know, will be additive and you know, will be motivated to play because this is the end of his contractual line here. And you know, he is somebody that can be as physical as you want to be with Brian Robinson and the rest of the running attack, which he'll be a part of. And then the passing attack alongside of Terry McLaurin, to say the least for Jayden Daniels is a brilliant move to show off that again, they are a very dangerous bunch now in the NFL with an owner and a front office and a coach that is all lockstep and isn't driving people nuts because they're insane themselves. That said, the Eagles are still the Eagles are still the Eagles, pal. Come on now. What if they get Miles Garrett? Who, the commanders?
Yeah. Now you're, you're in the area of this not being an overreaction, but it's still the Eagles. How do we go from, you know, the Eagles could be the next three-peat team because they looked so great in dethroning the chiefs and they are intact. Mostly they didn't lose both coordinators this time, just one they're intact, mostly with that offensive line in their, in their, you know, offensive unit.
And they're still young there. They're not long in the tooth there and defensively, I mean, my God, they got those two studs in the draft. Let's see what, how he does in the draft. He might Jedi mind trick somebody into trading him another play, a draft choice spot. Come on.
How do we go from that to, well, they got Deebo and no longer are they the leaders in the clubhouse in their own conference. Geez, man. And that's an overreaction.
You see the blue topic bar, right? Overreaction. I'm just responding to that. Thank you. I'm reacting properly. I believe reacting. All right. Last one.
Sam Darnold. Yes. Maybe this is in your top five. I hope so. And I hope I'm kind of teasing, not coming back to the Vikings and he's going to get $50 million a year in his new deal. You are touching upon one of my subject matters for my top five rumors that I heard at the combine. This is one of them.
Ooh. And I will just say, this is an overreaction. Oh, okay. I will say this is an overreaction and I will say it's entirely possible just to say this.
And then everyone else can maybe find that segment. Once you've taken this in, um, that both of these are potentially off your first and second state are potentially off. No love.
Or is this more of a McCarthy and diamond? All right. I'm going to wait for those flagship. Okay.
Just turn it out there. I'm just saying, you know, see the rumors Raiders and giants interested, and they're going to have to pay. I think if they're going to get Sam, so Raiders and giants are interested because what they need is somebody that can get them play the position winning.
Yeah. They can get them winning. They can get them winning for, uh, in the giants case, a coaching staff and front office staff that cannot have one of those six and 11, but Hey, I mean, we show on the arrows trending up now, if they're under 500, they're all gone. And in the Raiders case, they want to start winning now. They want to start winning now.
And so, um, you know, Pete Carroll didn't come back, um, to coach just so they could slowly rebuild, you know, I think he, they, they have a plan to try and win now and they need a quarterback to win now, which is why both of them were on Stanford. Yeah. So, um, yeah, that's an overreaction. I can't wait for you to put more meat on that. I will do so on the room. And I'm sorry, I'm not doing that for this pod.
I feel like that's an empty finish for those who have taken, taken this all the way to the end of this podcast. Okay. Nope. Nope.
I think it's good. What, uh, how about this? Then we'll finish on this then.
Sure. What about, what's a rumor that isn't going to make your segment? Oh, that is like, you mean that hit the cutting room?
Yeah. What hit the cutting room floor? What hit the, uh, the cutting room floor is that the Browns are taking a quarterback.
Okay. That is the, and, and, and it's cam ward or just quarterback. They're, they're still up in the air, which may have been something Andrew Berry told miles Garrett, you know, we're up to two, you know, the first, but when miles Garrett had these conversations with the Browns before the super bowl, they couldn't have, other than just seeing Caroline, you know, uh, seeing Miami hurricane and Colorado Buffalo football seen more to make an assessment that they're definitely drafting a quarterback. Second overall to tell that to miles Garrett, to make him basically say, well, listen, I that's your plan. I'm, I'm not here to break in another quarterback.
Just not here for it. And I'm, I'm wondering if the answer to that would be, well, there was Jayden Daniels, pal, you know, I was changed out the year before and Stroud the year before. And you take a look at their rosters and how we were, those guys were surrounded, you know, Jerry, Judy just had an amazing season with 15 quarterbacks. How about the rookie thrown to him? That's points in it, you know, Nick Chubb's back that's points in it.
That's a running attack. I mean, that's, that's, um, part and parcel of whatever, everybody I'm taught when I, I was stunned. Cause I thought maybe Cleveland could take a Travis Hunter and they might, I don't know, or Abdul, when you think that miles Garrett might be gone, but without question, virtually every human I ran into Indian Indianapolis thinks the Browns are taking a quarterback second overall. And that's the end of that, which, you know, to be honest, which, you know, to be honest, um, makes the Titans case for saying call us.
Yeah. Brown should move up. Call us or not the Browns, but anybody else, even Cleveland, like if you think maybe Tennessee is going to take Kim ward, you need to make sure you get that guy, if he's your guy. And then, you know, on the bottom end of the, uh, of the draft order, you have to take a look in that lower third to see where are the inflection points for somebody to have to trade above. If they like Jackson Darden or the kid from Louisville, who got a lot of, a lot of runs spinning it, man.
Ooh, he's got a cannon. So, um, if you want to trade back into the first round, what do you got? You have to go above the Steelers. Yes.
Okay. You know what I mean? Like, cause you take a look at the bottom half of the draft order and there's full of teams who just don't, don't need a quarterback, but would might be happy to trade out, get a couple picks. And then it really does depends on, on how people feel about the, you know, do you want more third or fourth rounders now or next year?
Cause next year is considered a deeper class. And you'll see that just again, I know I'm saying this in the beginning of March and the draft isn't for another seven weeks, but if you're seeing on draft night, people trading for a 20 capital next year, as opposed to this year, right. You know, you'll, you'll get a general sense of, of what front offices feel about this year's draft. Can't wait.
It's going to be an awesome lead up. Oh, that wraps it up. Um, on our Monday show, Mike Mayock will join us to break down the combine. Steve young with everything going on with the 49ers.
Love it. So, uh, Steve will join us. Um, and then there's my top five rumors that I heard at the combine. Listen to us, then go watch that Tuesday. Daniel Jeremiah will join us. Uh, cause I can't quit him. Why would you want to for Chris? I'm rich. This is overreaction Monday post combine.
