Allstate Fire and Casualty Insurance Company and Affiliates, Northbrook, Illinois. This is the Rich Eisen Show. I mean, that's just like the only reaction you can have for Anthony Davis being sent for Luca Doncic.
Live from the Rich Eisen Show studio in Los Angeles. You never trace stars to stars. Veteran coaches text me and say, I've never seen anything like this.
We kept it between us. J. Kidd didn't know about it. Earlier on the show, ESPN NFL analyst Lewis Riddick. Chiefs chairman and CEO Clark Hunt. ESPN NBA reporter Brian Winters. Still to come, senior writer for the MMQB, Albert Breer. And now, it's Rich Eisen. Oh, yes. Welcome to Rich Eisen Show hour number three for those who are listening to us on Infinity Sports Network or listening to us on our podcast or listening to us on Odyssey. I like talking like this because it's my radio voice.
If you're seeing us on Roku Channel, if you're seeing us on the Roku Sports Channel, you see I'm wearing the purple colors of Roku and that out of the entire village square that we reside in in El Segundo, there is one large Dayclo cone that is placed perfectly in the three foot by three foot radius to be only be visible outside my window. It drives me insane. And I bet you go out there. There's nothing there. There's nothing there. There's nothing there.
Can I move it again? I was going to say, I want to kind of go look to see what is out there. You know what, guys? You guys should be talking. No, no, no, don't. No, no.
No, no, no. Stay here because I need you. I need you. I need you. I need your essence, your your your your your support, your voice.
I mean, you know, I wouldn't be gone more than it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter. I've got to get past it. I've got to get past it. But you're not going to. I'm not. You're not going to. Don't worry.
There's the next break that we have for the Roku channel only. It's going to be great, great, great footage of you moving that damn thing. I'll kick it for you at any rate. We're here. I'll super kick it.
You're there. We haven't. I mean, unbelievable.
What's going on in the world is sports. Luca got traded. Luca got traded for Anthony Davis. All right. Darnell in Lubbock, Texas. Oh, boy. By the way, Texas is just calling up and showing out here for Texas. And we don't mess with it. Darnell on Lubbock, Texas.
You're in the rich. What's up, Darnell? Man, I just call to say I'm a date myself a little bit with this. OK. It reminds me of the cults moving the box more in the middle of the night.
Darnell, Darnell. First of all, first of all, do us a favor. Lower lower your television. If you're watching us on the Roku channel right now, it's going to it's going to compete with our conversation.
And I want us to have a nice chat here because it sounds like you're oh, it sounds like you're put off by the Luca trade right now. No, I'm actually I like it. OK. Oh, I do like it.
I do see the potential as you hear the noise, the burglar alarm is making noise. What's the dog's name, Darnell? Darnell, what do you what's your dog's name? Her name is Joy.
OK. And she is not a joy by any means. It's fantastic. But you really equate this with with a franchise moving out of the town in the middle of the night. Darnell, really? OK. When did they do this?
No, I think in the middle of the night. OK. All right. But but but the cults left nothing behind except the you know, they left nothing behind. They they they took everything, you know what I mean?
And including the marks and logos and everything else. I mean, the the the the Mavericks get Anthony Davis. They could actually be better. How's that for a hot take? Rich. Yeah. Semantics, rich semantics.
You're playing with the whole phrase of it all. They I mean, I like the trade. OK.
I hate to see Luca go because Luca was my guy. But I do see potential and what A.D. is going to bring. OK. I appreciate it.
And a lot of fans are not seeing that. They they hate no A.D. and I don't get it. Me neither, Darnell. And thank you for the call. Call back and enjoy Joy Darnell and Joy right here on The Rich Eisen Show. By the way, that sounds like a one of those ventriloquist teams in the 70s. Darnell and Joy.
Ladies and gentlemen, ladies and gentlemen, I'll take Darnell and Joy for the block. If you went to bed at a reasonable hour, you woke up to this news. Yeah, I know. Right. You know, middle of the night. But I know it's 11 o'clock broken Dallas. I know. I do love the fact that I did break the news on the text chat because I don't do superfluous text to a group chain. I know everyone's busy. I don't want to waste anybody's time. And I forget what my reaction was. Literally Saturday night.
Everyone's sitting around doing nothing. Let me see. Let me go here. Hoskins told me what I said. I want to confirm it. Not that I think he's lying.
You were being disrespectful. No, no. You you sent out the text here. Hold on a minute. Lakers traded A.D. for Luca. I'm trying to see. We had so many went back and forth here. Yeah.
And the Lakers traded A.D. for Luca. And I wrote, are you drunk? And I did say, oh, you're drunk. Twitter. Holy bleep. Yep. And you're like, I'm not on Twitter.
And it's nowhere else. You were defiant. And then like T.J. this time. And then I sent Chris Haynes and then a screen grab from Smitsch of Shams is a tweet because Shams had to send a follow up. Yes, this is real. Yeah. That's Patrick Mahomes tweeted out. Wait, what? Jalen Brunson tweeted out April Fools, right?
No. And Clarence Hill Jr., one of our favorites. And y'all mad at Jerry Jones. That's what he tweeted out. We would never do that. Oh, my word.
Of course, we traded for five first round picks each. And of course, Josiah Johnson tweeting out LeBron's quote, you got to play defense now that you're on the Lakers. And he wrote Luca. And then he had to be, you know, be careful.
You know, I won't do it just so she, you know. Yeah, exactly. Hey, from from the wire. Hey, by the way.
Oh, hey. By the way, seriously, Luca and AD get traded. Just oh, by the way, Miles Garrett raised his hand today and said, I want out of Cleveland. This is the reigning defensive player of the year who just turned twenty nine a month ago. At the top of his remarkable Hall of Fame game, former first overall pick. Finally has had enough of waiting around to see what the Browns can potentially build.
Watching a playoff season from last year goes straight down the tubular route. And now seeing the fact, if he does believe Deshaun Watson is the answer, that he's not coming back next year. And the team sitting second overall on the clock and might choose a rookie quarterback sitting there at the top of the draft. And if they don't, Travis Hunter coming isn't going to play quarterback out of the remarkable talents that he has.
And I guess. Decided that whatever plan Andrew Berry, the general manager and ownership or coach Kevin Stefanski has told him about what's coming over the next. Season or two. He let it be known and popped out on social media after everybody in their NFL media world reporting world reported that he wants out. Sent out this note saying, as a kid dreaming of the NFL, all I focused on was the ultimate goal of winning a Super Bowl and that goal fuels me today more than ever. My love for the community of Northeast Ohio and the incredible fan base of the Cleveland Browns has made this one of the toughest decisions of my life. These past eight years have shaped me into the man I am today.
Said he loved calling the city his home. My desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won't allow me to be complacent. The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, meaning the Hall of Fame. It has always been a compete for and win a Super Bowl. And then the only line in bold with that in mind, I've requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns, Miles Garrett. He signed it.
And we'll find out if the NFL is the NBA. And if him saying I don't want to be here anymore can be put back together because the last time, if I'm not mistaken, interesting that we have this photograph on the screen as I say this, the last time, if I'm not mistaken, an AFC North star of stars said I want out. The Ravens gave Lamar what he wanted, but that was money. And that was contractual security. I don't know if that is the underpinning of this with Miles Garrett.
I don't think it is. I don't think this is a Jimmy Butler play where I don't see the money coming. I want to be taken care of for years to come. That will make me feel better about sitting through all of this. He said it's about winning a Super Bowl and he wants out. And I am sure there are many teams for whom this guy is a missing piece and would be happy to oblige him. Mr. Carter, Mr. Carter.
Pretty much. And if I am Andrew Berry, the general manager of the Browns, my first thought is to sit him down and try and put it back together. I imagine however that went previously, Miles decided this is the better way to go. And it's tough to put Humpty Dumpty back together again.
He can. Again, Chris, would you mind potentially looking up what his contractual status is? Albert Breer will join us to help put these pieces together shortly.
But if you are, say, let's just throw it out there. A team that has trouble getting past Patrick Mahomes. What do you think about that idea of bringing Miles Garrett to Western New York?
How will that help things? I would say, you know, the teams that have trouble getting past Patrick Mahomes. One of them resides in the AFC North in Baltimore.
Another one has gotten past Patrick Mahomes in Cincinnati. I would say, proffer to say, a very, very warm place would have to freeze over like the Fortress of Solitude in order to have the Cleveland Browns trade him within division. Would the Houston Texans be of interest for Miles Garrett and vice versa? Would anyone in the AFC West be of any interest? If I'm the Browns, I'm only answering phone calls with area codes that come from the NFC.
Because I don't want to see Miles Garrett in my house, but once every four years if I can avoid it. If you are the Washington commanders, if you are the Detroit Lions, if you're the Green Bay Packers, if you're the Vikings, if you're the Bears. Now, if you're the Bears, does Miles Garrett think you've got a shot at winning a championship? If you're the Detroit Lions, Miles Garrett would maybe like to say, I like Detroit. If you're, say, the San Francisco 49ers.
Listen, I know the Rams have all these young pass rushers. Now, this is all well and good, playing fantasy football here saying, Mike, that team should trade for him. If I'm Andrew Berry, I'm also saying two number ones is the only way I answer your phone call. If you're willing to give up two number ones, here's my number.
Or you have my number, you can call it. Two number ones. We had Louis Riddick on in hour number one.
He's like, that might be too rich for somebody. He's blood a one and a two and a highly useful player for the Cleveland Browns right now on the spot might do the trick. Again, 29 years old as of right now, maybe not be by Thursday night, but currently for the next three days, defending defensive player of the year who is up for a back to back award as well. On Thursday night, which is why Miles Garrett, I imagine, will be in New Orleans on Wednesday. And he is slated to be a third hour in studio guest with us. And I have been told he is coming straight from the airport. So if it all stays as is, Miles Garrett is flying into New Orleans, the Super Bowl town to start doing media fresh off of demanding a trade with the Cleveland Browns. And his first stop is the Rich Eisen show. That's how you do it, though. Well, I mean, that's the way I like to do it.
You're doing it. He's got a very tradable contract, basically two years left. He's got an option bonus that's due on the fifth day of the new league year for about 18 and change his cap hits 19 million. Well, maybe. And that could be him saying, hey, I want a new deal. We're at the news.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Or I want a new deal here if they're not willing to give it to him. And he's 29. You know, and he can.
You see what Nick Bose is making in your you're like, excuse me. So money could be at the root of this as well. And if it is, the Browns should kind of cough it up. I mean, if you want to rebuild and start winning now and you saw last year, you had some pieces enough to actually get Joe Flacco working and making the playoffs. Listen, a lot of people thought the Browns were going to win their division this year. You know, so Myles Garrett's from Arlington, Texas, and you know what team? Hey, if you're not ready to win a Super Bowl, we could be with Myles Garrett, though. That could that could change. And I know that, but it would also require a piece of the pie that we've been told doesn't exist because the quarterbacks making as much as he's making and the wide receivers making as much as he's making. And Micah Parsons is making as much as he's making.
Jerry needs to like loosen up the I don't know if it strings a little. That ain't happening. Well, you want a Super Bowl right before you die, as he told us. And you've got the money. And here's a guy who grew up in the shadows of your stadium. It's worth a shot, at least making an effort to maybe bring. You put Myles Garrett on the other side or come on of Micah Parsons.
It's good night. I mean, how are you going to pay both these guys? You have got to be smoking something over there. I realize it's not going to happen, but they got to at least like give the fan base like at least we're trying to like. They didn't call about Derrick Henry. Like, this is not happening. So I'm going to learn from their mistakes. Huh? You'd rather be lied to that they're trying?
No, I want I want them to at least be trying to do something to make this team better. Like, give me. Yeah, I guess so, Jason. Now that I think about it. Yeah.
At least Joe Milton straight up for Myles Garrett. Let's go. Yeah. But you're not notice. I didn't mention you're not ready to win a Super Bowl. I mean, you got to you've got to be close. Yeah, we're not. If if he's saying it's about winning a Super Bowl.
Again, a handful of teams, dude, Cleveland sending him just up the road to Buffalo might be a pipe dream, too. Like I said, if I'm Andrew Berry and if I do find it necessary to oblige him, I'm I'm calling NFC teams are saying the NFC teams. You're the only ones I'm talking to.
And if I'm Myles Garrett, why wouldn't I? And you mentioned this on, I think the previous overreaction Monday, the latest one, by the way, is up. We recorded it before today's program. You said, I think on a previous overreaction Monday, Jayden Daniels is only going to make Washington a red hot March conversation as a destination in a way that hasn't been before. Yep. You know, hey, Dan Quinn can sell Myles Garrett on coming here. You want to win a Super Bowl.
This is the way to do it. You know, and and you can put you you can put tombstones of Dak Prescott, Jalen Hurts and, you know, Tommy Cutlets on your front lawn. You know what I mean? We don't know yet.
Maybe I don't know. But hey, come here. Dan Campbell, you want to bite a kneecap or two off here? Because you see what we're doing on offense and you see what's going on here. Sure, we lost some coordinators, but I'm still here.
And you're also still here. Aiden Hutchinson on the other side. What do you think? I mean, that's not a bad idea. Green Bay call him up. You know, Reggie White came here once, Myles, and he won a Super Bowl here. There you go. You know.
And I don't. He's we don't talk about it. We'll ask Albert Breer what he thinks, and I think he's zooming in from Radio Rose. So that's next.

Albert, just because I don't want to waste too much of your time with the NBA talk, but is there anything equivalent?
No, seriously, anything equivalent in our world? To Luca. Yeah, for Anthony Davis. Nobody's heard about it. Where you and everyone else gets scooped by two general managers talking about two generationally brilliant players in their prime for each other.
You know what I mean? Anything like that? Anything that I can remember where a guy was suddenly traded out of nowhere. In the biggest surprise trades I can remember where there was no read up, I feel like the Jimmy Graham trade, do you remember that one? That kind of came out of nowhere a little bit, where he was traded from the Saints to the Seahawks on the first day of free agency. If you're looking for an equivalent as far as names now, I think it'd have to be a quarterback, right?
One of them would have to be a quarterback. The one that Riddick came up with in hour one, because we were spitballing, was if the Chargers were done with Herbert. I was going to say Justin Herbert.
I thought that was perfect. He's young, he hasn't won yet, but he's got the potential to get there. I think that's a good one. The only thing that's different is nobody's talking about his conditioning or his dedication, like Lucas is getting called into question. But for, I don't know, it would have to be somebody, because Anthony Davis doesn't play the same position, but he's brilliant. So it would have to be a defensive player who's like six years older, you know? I don't know who that would be. Like TJ Watt?
Maybe, that's it. TJ Watt's like 31, I think. Yeah, so TJ Watt maybe is the one. So if you traded Justin Herbert for TJ Watt in a first round pick then, right, would be the equivalent? In the middle of a season with nobody knowing. Right, and it's a little harder in football to take that piece out of the puzzle, because then what do you do? Unbelievable.
Yeah, absolutely. Albert Breer here on the Rich Eisen Show. We're back on the Infinity Sports Network on the Roku Channel live stream all together. I'm sitting at the Rich Eisen Show desk, furnished by Grange with supplies and solutions for every industry.
Grange has the right product for you. Call clickgrange.com or just stop by. Albert, kind enough to zoom in from Radio Row there in New Orleans, Louisiana. You're already at the Super Bowl, Albert.
How's it going there? Yeah, and it's been way too long since this city has had it. I think you'd agree with me on this. It's obscene that we went 12 years without a Super Bowl in New Orleans. I know there are different masters to serve with new stadiums in places like Minnesota and Atlanta, but there's no better event city. I think you'd agree with me on this. There's no better event city in America than New Orleans.
I sure hope it's not another 12 years before it's here again. It's taken me less than 24 hours to feel that, where this city is just perfect for events like this. Yeah, and there's other towns like Los Angeles now in the mix, Vegas in the mix. And, you know, I bring up Los Angeles for a reason, because the Super Bowl here in L.A. that went down between the Rams and the Bengals the Monday of Super Bowl week was when the the I believe the agent of of Kyler Murray put something out that made it seem like Kyler Murray wants out of Arizona.
And it created a huge stink. And we saw, you know, Murray remove all Arizona Cardinals stuff from his Instagram and things of that nature. And here we are on the outset of this Super Bowl week and Myles Garrett saying he wants out of Cleveland.
What's your what's this one about, Albert? Yeah, I mean, my sense would be that, you know, like that this has been communicated to them and like the Browns don't have a real appetite for trading Myles Garrett right now. And so I think part of the reason you go public if you're Myles is because, you know, maybe you were met with with some level of resistance there where the team doesn't want to move on from you for obvious reasons. He's a great player and they've been a contender relatively recently. And I think that they believe that they can get there again pretty quickly if they can fix their quarterback issue. And so, yeah, like I think, you know, what this does now is the Browns don't shop. But, you know, the phone calls are going to come in and there are very few teams in the league that couldn't use Myles Garrett as part of their equation. Now, of course, teams that are closer to contending for a Super Bowl championship would probably be the more serious ones and it'd probably be easier to do a deal with teams like that. Again, like the Browns stance on this is nothing's changed. We still don't plan on trading and we still plan on him being here and retiring here and all the rest of it.
But we know these things go too, Rich. You know, we've had teams say they are trading a guy in the past and things can devolve quickly or change quickly. And, you know, I certainly think it's going to be an interesting week for Andrew Berry as calls start to come in on Myles.
Well, I mean, I mentioned before you joined that the last time we saw an AFC North superstar say I want out, the Ravens gave Lamar the contract he was looking for. Is this a money thing, do you think? I understand he put out on his social media it's a Super Bowl thing, but could it be fixed by a long-term deal for a 29-year-old? Maybe. I mean, I think it'd be more, so yes, I think that could be part of it. I think the other part of it, though, has to be some sort of plan for getting into Super Bowl contentions soon. Myles, I believe this will be year number nine for him coming up. I think I have the math there, right?
Yes. He's turning 30 soon, and so I think he's at the stage of his career where a guy starts to feel his football mortality, too, and I think Myles is a pretty conscientious guy who understands his legacy. He's going to be affected by what teams he's on over the course of his career, and I think it's at the point now where it's like I can't go through another two- or three-year retool. I can't wait for you to get the quarterback position right.
I want to win right now. I think money could help solve it, sure. Money always helps, but I think a part of it has to be here's our plan to come out of the woods of last year and do it fast and get you in a position to play in a Super Bowl soon. I think all of this, of course, is complicated by the contract they're still on the hook for with Deshaun Watson and obviously the conference that they play in. It's not going to be easy. You can't microwave your quarterback situation when you're looking at Joe Burrow and Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson and, of course, Patrick Mahomes on the verge of his fourth championship.
It's really hard to microwave your situation. Microwave your quarterback situation into a spot where, okay, now we're ready to contend. It's a challenging situation, and I do think finding a solution to the quarterback position and finding a way to convince Miles Garrett that you are going to be in a position to contend at the highest level. Not just for a playoff spot, but at the highest level in 2025 would have to be part of the solution. Look, maybe it's taking a swing at somebody like Matthew Stafford.
I don't know, but they have to put something in front of them. Well, I mean, it's tough to say, hey, look, the Washington commanders drafted a quarterback second overall, and look what happened within one year when Miles Garrett could potentially just join the team that just had Jayden Daniels do it for them with Dan Quinn as the coach, right? Like if he wants to force his way to an NFC spot, which is what may be the one thing that the Browns, if they finally do countenance this concept of trading him, they would want to trade him to another conference. Is there a team, best you would know in first blush with this now being out there, that Miles Garrett might prefer to go to that's close to winning a Super Bowl that you could think of, Albert? Well, I mean, Texas is home for him, right? So, I mean, I think you have to consider, like, would the Cowboys do something and take a big swing?
It hasn't been their history of late. The Texans, you know, like the Texans have shown they're sort of all in for right now while CJ Stroud's on his rookie contract. They just went and got to Neil Hunter. Is there, you know, a world where maybe you flip to Neil Hunter and a pick or two picks or whatever it might be to Cleveland and bring Miles Garrett home and now he's playing opposite Will Anderson. You know, and then I think looking at the teams in the NFC, you know, it's easy to look at like the Rams as a team where it's like they've got a lot of great talent on their defensive line. Would having somebody like Miles Garrett put them over the top? You know, we know Les Snead's not averse to taking big swings and they've got the resources to do it again.
And then, like you said, like, you know, your Washingtons, your Philadelphias, I think those teams would be in the mix. Like Washington, you know, again, that window I talked about with Houston, like, that's where Washington is right now with Jayden Daniels, too. And so they should have the opportunity to take a swing or two like this and that could be an opportunity for Miles Garrett to play in a scheme that's going to allow him to compile numbers and compete for championships. You know, the Eagles have swung and missed a bunch on edge players and we've seen like Howie in the past go in and say, okay, I've taken my swings, now I'm going to take a big swing to fix it. It's like what he did with A.J. Brown at receiver. You know, you could see that and be like, let's go get Miles Garrett and put him alongside, you know, Jalen Carter for the next three or four years and we'll have the most dominant defensive front in football. And obviously they've got more important business to deal with over the next few days, but the Eagles are one of the teams that would be in that mix. So I think my larger point here, Detroit, I mean, you know, Detroit would be another one.
Can you imagine him opposite Aiden Hutchinson and maybe it's like Detroit's swing with all the coaches that they left. Like Joe, hey, we're still here. You know, I like I don't know, I got a player like Miles Garrett doesn't come available very often and I probably just rattled off nine teams.
I could probably come up with nine more. It's just like it's you can talk yourself into so many teams wanting to do this, you know? A couple of minutes left with Albert Breer from the Super Bowl. He's on Radio Row in New Orleans. You mentioned Stafford as the Browns maybe take a hack at him to try and keep Miles Garrett happy and try and win now with what the roster they have there and supplement it with what they could potentially supplement. Is Stafford available? I mean, how do you see this playing out with the Rams?
Not right now. And I think, you know, a lot of people in LA want Stafford back next year, but there is water under the bridge from the negotiation last year. And for people who don't know, they gave him a $5 million raise, pushed money from this year and next year into 2024 to give him a $5 million raise. They guaranteed all his money for 2024 and then they removed the guarantees for 2025 with the agreement that they were going to revisit everything after the season.
He played well this year. It's time to revisit it again. I think it's unpredictable where this one goes. Now, I think if we're up to the coaches who've got to work day to day to build a contender, I think they find a way to get this done. But what we don't know is what Stafford might want. And does Stafford want a renewed commitment that he's going to be able to finish his career in Los Angeles?
If that's the case, how far are the Rams willing to go to give him that commitment? There are a lot of moving parts here. And, you know, I do think that there was some strain left over from the negotiation of the last offseason that really lasted the balance of the offseason and got done at the very end. So, a lot of love for Matthew Stafford still in that building, but there's a lot to be worked out. And there was a lot left on the table when they got done with the negotiation of the last year.
Certainly, if they were to decide to move on, pretty good offers. Like, what a Pittsburgh. What do you make sense for somebody like Pittsburgh? Like, you can see a lot of teams where it would make sense to bring in Matthew Stafford as an answer for the next couple of years, especially with a really shaky quarterback class in this year's draft.
And, you know, then who knows? Like, does L.A. turn around and sign Sam Darnold? You know, there could be some interesting moving pieces out there in the quarterback market that a lot of people aren't talking about yet.
JJ McCarthy on tomorrow, Albert. And do you think that the Vikings move on to him no matter what, or they're going to make a play for Sam? Like, that kind of is a piece of the free agency stuff here. I don't think it's no matter what sort of situation yet.
I would say this, though. He's ahead of schedule. He's able to do just about everything now. His second surgery was really just a cleanup. And he's going to have a full offseason, so he's not going to be limited by anything this offseason. Now, there's still a little bit of a leap of faith in that he did lose, you know, four or five months of development time, but he was very locked into every part of the football operation that he could be a part of. Like, when they went out to practice, he would do his rehab work, and then all the stuff that was in the building, he was a part of. So he was in the quarterback room pretty much all the way through. He started traveling again with the team with their trip to Los Angeles in October, so he could be around the team for the game day operation for the trip. He could be on the headset during the game. So he's doing everything he possibly can to put himself in position to play in 2025 and start in 2025.
And here's the other thing. When he got hurt in August, he played well enough early on in camp to at least complicate the plan to start Sam Donald and just redshirt him and sort of, you know, put that decision off for another year. He played well enough to make it a real discussion point, like, is there going to come a point where we're going to... Now, obviously, the injury eliminated the possibility of that, but I'd say JJ's checked a lot of boxes, and I can say they'd be comfortable with him as their starting quarterback in 2025. That does not mean they're kicking Sam Donald out the door, but I do think it gives them a lot more flexibility in the way they handle Sam's situation over the next couple of months.
I would be remiss before I sent you back into the Big Easy. Super Bowl 59 comes down to what, Albert? What do you think? I think it comes down to the Chiefs' ability to make Jalen Hurts beat them down the field. I think if the Chiefs can do that, then the Chiefs can play the game on their terms. I think another key player, and this is somebody that not a lot of people are going to bring up this week. I think Joe Tooney is one of the biggest keys to this game, because I talked to a bunch of executives and coaches over the last week, the last three or four days actually, that it's said to me that if they were Andy Reid, they would move Joe Tooney back inside to guard this week and go with DJ Humphries or one of the young guys that left tackle because of what the Eagles bring with their defensive tackles with Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis.
So there are a lot of cool little elements that go into this one. I think one is obviously the ability for the Chiefs to win up front against the Eagles' offensive line, to stack the box and make Jalen Hurts beat them downfield. And then I think the other one is how are the Chiefs going to be able to manage their offensive line issue, and where does Joe Tooney play?
Those would be two things in particular I think I would take a close look at. But I will say this, Rich, last year after the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, I said that I was out of the business of picking against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs, and then I went back on my word without even thinking about it in the AFC championship game, so I'm not doing that again. I will not be caught doing that again. Yeah, that's why I chose a three-peat on the Tuesday after Labor Day, man. I'm with you. Hey, Albert, I appreciate the time. Oh, by the way, not since Dan Gilbert hiring Jon Beline away from Michigan to coach the Cavs, have I seen a next-level maneuver by a Big Ten rival, because Gilbert's a Michigan stator, like he didn't do that on purpose, having Tom Brady hire Chip Kelly away from Ohio State is like a Dan Gilbert- Don't forget about Jon Spytek.
Jon Spytek's there too. That's right, it's a Dan Gilbert-like move right there out of Brady. You strengthen your team, or you think you are, and weaken the rival. I think it's next-level maneuvering by Tom Brady. What do you think, Albert? It cost him a lot of money to do it too. It cost him a lot of money to do it. Oh, is it right?
Six million dollars a year, six million bucks. So you're going to ask Caleb Downs for something back to make it up? Does Caleb Downs give any money back?
What happens here? I don't think we need to hold a bake sale like some other schools. Ohio State will be okay. A bake sale! I didn't notice, was there a bake sale in Ann Arbor? I had no idea. I don't know. They had to bake some cookies to get their quarterback?
I had no idea. Albert, I'll see you- I don't know, we also haven't had to bring in any non-alums to contribute, but that's another conversation for another day. Okay. Good to see you. I'll see you very shortly. We'll see you soon, Albert. Thanks for the time, bud. Thanks, Rich.
You got it. That's senior reporter for the Sports Illustrated MMQB. The one and only Albert Brady.
There he goes. Next-level Michigan man maneuvering out of Tom Brady. You know who we should get to be the offensive coordinator?
Let's get Chip Kelly. Oh, where is he from? Oh, Ohio State. Did you see Albert- I didn't bring this up. Did you see Schefter's tweet on it?
No. Schefter's tweet about it referred to Chip Kelly as a former Eagles coach. Chip Kelly. That's worse than putting the X through the M. What are you guys doing?
It's just as bad. But I sent it to him. I texted Adam Schefter, outstanding copywriting. Outstanding copywriting.
Pettiness on all your guys. No, no, no, no. Excuse me. Chip's back in the NFL. That's the point. You're using an NFL identifier for a guy who's back in the NFL. That's what he's doing. What are you accusing him of doing? No one refers to you as former advance news reporter.
Maybe they do. Somebody behind my back. Come on.
I would if I still lived there and I was like, thank you. That's right. He's a friend of ours. That's right.
The advance. Excellent. Tom Brady. Good job, sir. Make yourself stronger. By the way, great hire.
Wouldn't you agree? Chip Kelly, offensive coordinator. Don't know who the quarterback is. Don't know who the quarterback is. But if you're Pete Carroll and you're like, I want to think outside the box.
I want to get some. You bring it in Chip Kelly. I like it. Into Las Vegas. Let the good times roll.
Betting on silver and black. You know, that's what he's going to do. I like it. I like it. And then on the other hand, maybe weaken the other one. Which is why I've been saying people should hire Spagnolo. Makes sense, right?
Weaken them tremendously. All right. We will take a break. Top five big game storylines when we come back right here on the Rich Eisen Show on a very busy Monday.
Rich Ackerman now with a sports update. I got a riddle for you. What are yoga mats, a toothbrush and a Hyundai have in common? I'll give you a moment.
Time's up. If you guess they're all fun, well-designed and super useful, you guessed wrong. The answer is you can order all those things on Amazon.
That's right. You can now buy a Hyundai on Amazon. The same place where you order yoga mats, a toothbrush and pretty much everything else. All from the comfort of your home. And the best part, you won't even have to break down a car sized Amazon box after because you'll pick up your Hyundai at the dealer.
I mean, picture this. You're in your PJs, snugged in on your couch, you pull up Amazon on your phone and start the process right there. Just locate a nearby dealer, pick your color, your options, check the price. And with a few dotting of some I's and crossing of some T's, voila, your Hyundai is ready for pickup. It's that easy.
Just remember to put some real clothes on before you head over, will you? Hyundai, now available on Amazon. Visit HyundaiUSA.com or call 562-314-4603 for more details.

Whether it's game night, on the way to a concert, or kicking back with your crew, unleash your senses with Nerds Gummy Clusters. Most of you have been doing this for years, so it's real simple. We've got one week and that's it. You all have known me for a while. And while you've heard me talk about being perfect, I want you to understand something. To me, being perfect is not about our ratings.
Not about how often Del Tufo drops out by mic audio. It's about you and your relationships to your family, friends, and co-workers. Being perfect is about being able to look to the guy next to you in the eye and know you didn't let them down because you're spitting the truth.
And that truth is you did everything you could to make this show great. Look each other in the eyes. Put each other in your scripts forever.
Because forever is about to happen this week in Houston. Boys, my heart is full. My post-it chair is full. Now let's go out there and broadcast it. Yeah! Fight it! Fight it! Fight it! Wow.
You know what? That was thoroughly entertaining. Thoroughly entertaining.
And I'm really shocked at how much we look alike. Let's take a look. Obviously I needed a little bit of help.
It's not bad. I think you did a really good job. Honestly, the only thing, if you want to pursue this as a career, is you still had a little bit of the sportscaster voice.
In other words, it wasn't as human. Have you ever heard Hank Azaria or Harry Schur do the baseball guy? He did this thing for me one time and I can't do it very well. But the first time I ever heard Hank do this, and it was a long time ago, he said, you know, Tom Needen sure is allergic to shellfish. And he's talking about how baseball announcers, it's like an aside, you know, the game. And he thinks about the story and he said, so a few of the guys took him out to dinner the other night and they buried some shrimp up under his pasta and that's in there for strike two. You know what I mean? It's like I needed a toupee to look just like Billy Bob Thornton.
That's bowl two outside. Right, exactly. But I've got something.
I think you've got something going. I've got to tell you, it's been now eight years, right? Since that moment, seven, eight years?
Yeah, eight years. I'm just as nervous as the moment that happened. And I know he's going to like it, but each time I think it's going to be something different where it's just going to be that moment where he's just like, that was terrible. I can't believe I actually did that, showed it to him. It was very fun. All those kids now are like 25 years old. Oh, my God. That's how long ago it was. Yeah.
Oh, my gosh. We're still here. We are. Going to New Orleans. Heading out tomorrow night. Wednesday we're going. Miles Garrett is going to be a guest. Warren Sapp's our first guest on Wednesday. Good stuff. Back here on The Rich Eisen Show.
844-204-RICH is the number to dial. We'll sneak in a phone call in a moment. But I do this every year because we deal with storylines. I deal with narratives.
I deal with all 22s and things of that nature and Xs and Os. I deal with narratives. And there's no bigger narrative that comes out in the wash in the American sports world than the result from the big game. And I've got my top five big game storylines presented by Nissan. High five. One, two, three, four, five. Rich's top five.
All right, here we go. Top five big game storylines presented by Nissan starts with number five is this Jalen Hurts' moment. I interviewed Jalen Hurts over the weekend for NFL Game Day Mornings eight and a half hours of coverage. So I get to say, I spoke with Jalen this weekend. And by the way, I stepped in at the start where I said, how you doing, Jalen? He goes, fine, how are you? And I went right into my first question and he goes, I asked you how you were doing.
Wow. So he was more present than I was. And after I'm like, can we cut that one out? But he's present is what I'm saying. Like he's in the moment, guys. And he was talking about his journey and how he's kind of built for this. He didn't say those words, but he's prepped. He's ready to go. He's got his game face on.
And I was, as always, when speaking to him, duly impressed. Is it his moment? Will he become a champion quarterback in the National Football League? We shall see in his second go round number four on the list. Is this Travis Kelsey's last ride? Travis Kelsey needs to be prepared for two questions and they both have to do with his future. Professionally and as a bachelor, he's going to get that question tonight on media night and every single time he's available this week, somebody's going to ask, is this the end for you? And is this the end for you? Will you drop to any, can you, I think that you can actually wager on whether he's going to propose to Taylor Swift this weekend.
Oh, for sure. And so is this the end of Travis Kelsey's career? Will this be his final game? I don't know if he'll ever answer that question or if they do win a third in a row, he'll say, yeah, this is it. No ring on Taylor Swift's finger last night at the Grammys. Did you really look at that?
I'm looking at it right now. Number three on the list, and this is unbelievable that it's this low, but Patrick Mahomes' legacy and where he stands and him trying to chase down Tom Brady and how he's already surpassed Joe Montana in terms of playoff wins, in terms of Super Bowls and Super Bowl MVPs, and he is on the Mount Rushmore and his legacy, and he's not even 30. That's number three on my top five big game storylines. Number two, can Saquon Barkley be the difference maker? That's it. Now, yeah, you know, Jalen Carter wasn't around the last time they played, so they've doubled their Jalens who can actually make a difference.
But is he the difference maker? Can he do to the Chiefs what he's done to pretty much everyone else, especially the Rams, which was end their season? And that's number two on the list.
But number one, it's as simple as it gets. I knew this was the storyline the minute the last Super Bowl win for the Chiefs was over, and I knew it during free agency and training camp and all the way up to the beginning of the season. Can the Chiefs complete the historic 3P? That's it. And those are my top five big game storylines presented by Nissan.
Built for the most rugged terrain, the all new Nissan Armada Pro 4X gives you the freedom to explore further because going big never goes out of style. That's my top five big game storylines presented by Nissan. So that's it. Heading off to New Orleans, we've got on Tuesday, tomorrow's show, Chris Long will join us. J.J. McCarthy is on the show tomorrow, just to name two.
And we're just really excited about our guest list. Tom Pelissero will join us tomorrow. Daniel Jeremiah will break down the Super Bowl, as well as the Senior Bowl that he just finished up. Wednesday in New Orleans, Warren Sapp, Jayden Daniels, Burt Kreischer, Dan Patrick, Jerome Bettis, and our final guest straight from the airport, I am told, is the man who told the Cleveland Browns today he wants out. He should have put in his statement, but I won in on the Rich Eisen show.
He already knew who he was. You want to text him and see if he can repost? He's going to demand a trade at Pat's show? Is that what's going to happen? Does he refuse? Who does? Coming up. The Candy Valentino Show. Time to invest in your future. Follow and listen on your favorite platform.
