Live from the Rich Eisen Show studio in Los Angeles, Justice Hill goes 51 yards. The Rich Eisen Show, earlier on the show, Prime Video's TNF analyst, Ryan Fitzpatrick. Coming up from Prime Video's It's in the Game Madden NFL, Mike Madden, author of the Basketball 100, David Aldridge. And now, it's Rich Eisen.
That's it, all right. Hour number two, what a weird way to start the hour. Hey, we're here on the Roku Sports Channel, this Rich Eisen Show terrestrial radio affiliates Sirius XM Odyssey. Tune in and more. Call us, 844-204-RICH.
Number to dial on the program. David Aldridge, my friend from back in the day on the worldwide leader in sports. He's got a new book that is out talking about some of the top players in the history of the NBA, and we'll talk with him in hour number three. It's also an overreaction Monday on a Tuesday Tuesday, so we'll get to that on this program. We just chatted with Ryan Fitzpatrick about the day after Thanksgiving, the game Black Friday on Prime Video. But now, let's turn our attention to the triple header, the more conventional football extravaganza on Thanksgiving that a couple of years ago was renamed the John Madden Thanksgiving Celebration. And I'm sure since it is Thanksgiving week, perfect time to unveil a new four-part docu-series on Prime Video, which you could see through Roku portal today.
It premieres exclusively there. It's in the game Madden NFL. Joining us in support of that and in support of everything Madden is John's son, Mike, back here, right here on the Rich Eisen Show. Good to see you, Mike. It's good to be with you, Rich. Good to see you, man.
So let's just jump in before we get to the documentary here. What was it like for your family to hear from the NFL, hey, we're going to rename the Thanksgiving Day Games the John Madden Thanksgiving Celebration and annually remember your dad? What was it like hearing that news?
You know, that's a great question. And the NFL kind of came to us after, you know, they wanted, you know, Roger Goodell, big supporter of dads and vice versa, and Pete Abbotante with the league. They came and they said, you know, we would like to honor your dad. And they graciously did not ask what I would like or my mom would like.
They kind of, they threw it out there to others. And then they came with like 20 ideas, you know, naming an award and, you know, just a whole menu of things. And among them was the Thanksgiving. And that was kind of the one that they all, they all wanted. And I was like, oh, that sounds great.
But I didn't, I didn't know what it was going to look like or feel like or sound like. And then, you know, as they did it and they unrolled it, you know, dad was with CBS and then he was with Fox and then, you know, Monday night and then NBC. So he, he'd, you know, he'd hit for the cycle as far as the networks. And he still had, he still had great relationships and all the people that worked with him, you know, were still there and they, they, they all got excited. So, you know, he loved and trusted all those people and they've done such a fine job with it that it's, it's, it's, it's humbling to sit and watch, you know, what each network rolls out in, in his honor. And it, it, it, it, I think it's really cool. Yeah. I mean, they got the, the, the coin with your dad's, you know, silhouette as heads, a turducken as tails, you know, and then the John Madden foundation is going to be benefited this year. It's newly created game used items from the three Thanksgiving day games will be available via NFL auction can start raising money. The social media support.
I mean, I guess somebody would have explained your dad, what Reddit and Tik TOK was, but you know, that's going to happen. And I, I think it's awesome. And forevermore Mike, right.
Forevermore. Oh yeah. And it is, and it's, it's, what's fun for me is like, they, they let's just take one of the other things on the menu that the the league, you know, mentioned and it would be, you know, naming an award and it would be a guy at a podium once a year talking about, you know, John madness or John Madden that, but what, what I think is fun is they, you know, the networks are in control of it and they've all got great tape of him representing himself. And so instead of having Roger Goodell or Peyton Manning at a podium talking about, you know, John Madden was passionate about football, you know, heck, let's just, let's just go to the tape and, and you see him and you hear him and the energy and the arm waving and all the stuff and then jamming his hand in the middle of a turducken and all that, you know, so it's fun that he gets to, he gets to represent himself. And I think that's, that's appropriate and that'd be the best way to, to hear, here's a slice of John Madden.
We'll let him handle it from here. I love it. What's your first football memory, Mike Madden?
What is that? Oh boy. I, you know, I mean, dad was a football coach. So even as a kid, I remember in kindergarten, the, uh, my kindergarten teacher, uh, put a, put a newspaper article up and said to the class, does anybody know who this is? And I, of course, was the only one who was the Chronicle, uh, the green sheet. And dad just been hired as head coach of the Raiders. And so Mrs. Kessel went around the room and nobody knew, nobody knew. And I was blushing.
And she says, uh, you know, Mike, do you want to tell everybody what happened? And, and yeah, my dad just, you know, he was a linebacker. I don't even know if I knew.
Anyway, dad just got hired as the head coach of the Raiders. Yeah. In kindergarten, huh? So that's, you were a kindergartener when that happened. So, uh, were you just hanging out in the locker room as a first, second, third grader with some of the greatest Raiders in the history of the Raider organization? Mike was, was that, was that a scene?
No, the answer to that is hell no, but nobody is an interesting thing though. Cause so no, when dad was hired, I was, I was five, six years old and then, uh, and then, so there's kind of three chapters. There was the first chapter where it's, you know, no and hell no. And then it was kind of, okay, let's, let's, let's bring the kids around. And, uh, the Raiders, you know, training camp was, you know, two months long and dad would go up to Santa Rosa right after the 4th of July. And mom says, you guys can go and hang out your hang out with your dad, but, uh, but you can't sit at the training table and get a New York steak in front of you and have your dad cut your steak. So, so the big test to go off to training camp was, was you gotta be able to cut your own steak.
Oh yeah. So once we could pass that test, we got shipped up to Santa Rosa for, for, for a week or two during training camp. So, um, um, Ken Stabler never babysat you, Mike, that never happened? No, no, uh, no, like I said, in the early era, it was just, you know, stay the heck out of the way, get hurt. The medium chapter was okay.
You can cut your steak, uh, you know, eat over here, go over here and, you know, just, you know, don't disappear off the property. And then the third chapter is I, you know, when dad finished, I was a high school football player of my own. Uh, you know, so I was playing myself and, and then the later guys, the, the Mickey Marvins and the Lester Hayes, uh, those guys were now, you know, only seven or eight years older than me. So I did have a different relationship with them that we had with the older players.
I love it. So last one for you on the memory lane here. So he never took you even to the set of a, uh, Miller commercial. You never, did you ever go to a set of one of those Mike? Well, now, now, yes. So now by the time he hires, I'm in high school and he's he, yes, we, we did go to the set.
Uh, I went to his first, the first Miller light and that was our first train trip across the country actually was to go, uh, from California to New York on the train to, uh, for him to shoot the very first Miller light where he's just in the bar by himself, busting through the paper. So did you meet Rodney and boob Powell and Dick butt kiss? Did you meet him all night? No, no, no, no. I never, no, I never got, I never made it to a reunion. Uh, but like I said, we were there at the first one where he did it, where he did it just by himself.
And, uh, but no, no, no. He would come back from those reunions and he, he had the most fun. All those guys had the most fun. And that was, uh, you know, they just, it was more than just doing commercials together.
I mean, that was a club. Uh, and they, you know, they, uh, dad would come back with a, with a, you know, a fistful of stories coming back from the reunion shows. I bet. So it's in the game. Madden NFL is a new four part documentary series. That's right on Amazon prime video starting today.
And you can watch it here on the Roku portal. So what, what's this, it's kind of crazy when your dad went in the hall, I believe it was 2006. Cause I'll never forget that class. It was big friend of film network too.
It was so huge. And Mooch was sitting to my left and he, he and your dad go way back like the proverbial car seat, you know, with, with the, with the bocce ball tournament for charity that they would hold together every single year and your dad coming by. And so many people that I knew, you know, thought he was getting in because of the video game. I swear to you, Mike, you know, and it's, or, or a broadcaster.
We, we forget about the coach obviously, but the video game is another thing that his in your name is attached to forevermore. How did that start? It started, he was approached, uh, by, by trip Hawkins who had just started electronic arts and dad was impressed with trip. He liked trip. Uh, I was, I was early at Harvard and trip had graduated from Harvard.
And so dad would rub my nose in it. He goes, uh, you know, this guy trip Hawkins is so smart. He went to Harvard and they let him make up his own major and he majored in games. And I go, yeah, that's great, dad. I, he, he, he knocked on doors that I don't even know exist, but he teased me. He goes, so I go, dad, I've got six choices.
I'm going to, I'm going to major in English. He goes, well, why don't you try to major in games? I go, that's not, that's, that's out of my league. But, uh, but he, no, he was impressed with trip and it started out as a computer game. It actually had a small chapter where it was going to be a coaching tool more than a, uh, more than a video game. Yeah.
Yeah. And then in the, uh, and then when, when the computers got strong enough to do the 22 players that he insisted on having, because before we had tech mobile and that was about it and that was six on six or seven on seven or something. And, uh, so dad insisted on the 22. And then when the computers met it, that's when all the work that dad and trip had done. And they'd been at it for five or six years, uh, by that time, then they were able to transfer it and get it into the Sega Genesis, uh, platform. And so they kind of had a headstart on the video game because they'd been working at it for several years.
That's awesome. And so what, what would your, you know, what would your dad think this day and age now where players are complaining about their ratings and things like, well, they used to complain to him. Cause you know, I mean, he, he, he, he wants to speak with seven or eight players before, before every game. So he would roll in and they would come in, you know, buy the thing to talk to, you know, whoever his partner was and they would all come in and they, they always use the phrase, John, I need more juice.
I need more juice, you know, juice me up. And, uh, so that was the big thing. And he thought at first it was a joke, you know, he didn't know where they were getting this information and they're coming in out of speed. And, and, you know, the players never understood that the, the, the computer programmers, they need to use these numbers to manipulate it. So it'd be right on the field.
And so speed to a computer, it may or may not be speed, you know, but it's something that they need to balance out. Uh, so the game is, is the game, but the players read it and they're, you know, I'm faster than him. How come he's, you know, he's a 94 and I'm an anyway, but, uh, yeah, they used to give him the business. I love that. So a couple more minutes left with Mike Madden here on the rich Eisen show. Who's your favorite person you met on the Madden cruiser Mike on the Madden cruiser was probably, and not met, but, but, but that was if I had, uh, if I had to string together my favorite 12 Pat summer, all stories, uh, the bus was, the bus was a great place to visit with Pat. Always had a joke, um, you know, would fly in and, and Pat would, Pat would come down if the, if the bus is leaving at 10, Pat would come down at nine and a couple of times I rolled down at, you know, nine 55 and the bus was gone. So, uh, Pat would be there an hour early. So I learned to get there, you know, myself and we would, you know, it was a, it was a great time to have, you know, 15, 20 minutes on a morning with Pat. And, uh, he was, he was a great man and a great storyteller joke teller. So yeah, anything on the Madden cruiser would probably revolve around Pat.
So I imagine just putting together ages and things of that nature. Did you ever fly on a plane with your dad or you never knew your dad as a plane flyer ever in your life? Uh, yeah, we did. Um, again, when we were younger kids, that was before dad won his Superbowl, which means he lost, he lost a bunch of championship games. And that meant that the champion, the, the, the championship loser coached the pro bowl and the pro bowl was a thing, um, in the seventies and, you know, they played and, and the winner got twice as much money as the loser and, and, uh, dad coached it like it was, you know, if he's not going to get to coach in the Superbowl, he'll coach the pro bowl, uh, as if it is.
And so, yeah, so we were, we would, we went to Kansas city one year, we went to Miami one year and we went to new Orleans one year and we did, we did fly with him. And did your dad, um, swear that the ball hit the ground in the immaculate reception, Mike? Um, no, no, the ball didn't hit the ground. Uh, dad's bone of contention was that nobody knew what happened and they admitted that they didn't know what happened. And then the guy went to the dugout, talked to somebody, this is 30 years before incident replay, talked to somebody, came out of the dugout and the signal touchdown. And so dad never got an explanation. So it just seemed, they didn't know what happened, but they said the Pittsburgh Steelers get to go on and the Oakland Raiders have to go home. So his contention was that they were adamant about something for which they had no actual proof is what you're saying.
And I don't even know that they were adamant. They needed to make a call and the call went against dad and he never, he never let that one go. All right.
So I'm going to put you in one last difficult position here. Uh, Mike, before I let you go, the player that your dad would love to see play today, if he was alive, that it would speak to your father, that your dad would be like, that's the guy. It could be somebody that was definitely playing, you know, before he passed, or it could be somebody that's new to the league. Is there somebody that leaps out at you where that's a John Madden guy from your estimation, Mike Madden?
Oh boy. He, uh, you know, he had a nice, he had a nice, he had a great relationship with Andy Reed and Andy Reed, uh, put them on the phone a couple of times with Pat Mahomes and, uh, loved, he kind of loved that because dad had been out of broadcasting for several years. So he didn't have the access like he did as a broadcaster. Um, and I know he, you know, I would, you know, go out to lunch with him the day after he would, he would have a great conversation with Andy and dad. He was really, Oh, Andy, Andy had Pat Mahomes and put him on the phone and it was great. And he was, he was really excited, uh, the day that he got to talk to Pat Mahomes. Yeah. It kind of makes sense, Mike, because the, when Mahomes got drafted by Reed, the farve comparisons were the first ones out of the shoot, you know, and I know how your dad felt about watching Brett Farve play. That's for sure.
So I'm wondering if that, that might be some of the connective tissue you're hitting on right here. And then, and then just, just excellence, you know, I mean, like when you first phrase the question, you know, I know, I think if you, if you ask him and he never said this, but he loved art shell, you know, art show was a great player, tough as net, you know, art was great. And, uh, I know dad loved, you know, coaching art and respected art as a player. And as a left tackle, I think if you ask dad who was the finest player at their position that he ever coached, I think art would be the answer to that one. Um, you know, he, he, the, the middle of his broadcasting career was the prime of Lawrence Taylor. Um, you know, so he would bring up Lawrence Taylor is one of the all-time greats. And of course, you know, the guys, I mean, Brett Farve, they had as much, he had as much fun broadcasting Brett and meeting with Brett in the meetings before the game as, as anything. So he, he loved Brett.
Um, but yeah, he, you know, he loved all those guys and he loved the game and, and, uh, I'm trying to narrow it down as best I can. It's not easy to do. It's not easy to do, Mike, thanks for the time.
Uh, say go blue to Jesse for me. Will you please, I noticed, I noticed that I noticed that cup that you were using you, you, my cup is runneth over still, you know, so, uh, I appreciate your time here. Um, enjoy the Madden Thanksgiving celebration amongst the Maddens and congrats on the, uh, the four part docu-series that's, uh, exclusively airing on prime video today.
It's in the game Madden NFL. Mike Madden, happy Thanksgiving to you, sir. Awesome. Happy Thanksgiving to you, Rich. Right back at you. You bet.
That is Mike Madden here on the Rich Eisen show memory lane and everybody checked that one out. Can't wait. That's going to be cool. My kids are playing Madden right now, dude, you know, junior year of college.
That's all we did. Is that right? Oh, Madden 2001. Oh, it was the best.
I think that was Eddie George on the cover that year. I can't remember. It's in the game.
It's in the game. Madden NFL premiers on prime video today. 8 4 4 2 0 4 Rich numbers down.

Well, my buddies controlled it for me. Well, cause I know we've had conversations about this before and that there are some interesting, um, uh, I guess tasks that the loser of this league must undertake. So are you, if you lose, even though you're not part of the data, they'll hold me to it.
Absolutely. I don't even know if I could tell you who's on my team right now, but um, if I were to lose, they would, they would absolutely hold me to it and, uh, we, we'd have to go take care of business. What are some of the, um, fails that I guess that you have to go to some of the, the responsibilities of the losers of your league? What is it? Uh, last year, the loser, uh, had to go to Alaska for a day.
What do you mean? Like for a day? For a day? Yeah.
Okay. They went to a place called Nome, Alaska. It goes through there.
So, so regardless of the geographic spot in the United States would have to for a day, get on a plane and, and prove per proof of purchase of the ticket and then take a photo. Like how do you, I mean, there's, there was tasks involved. It was, I think he went in March. Um, but it was, it was, yeah, it was a whole thing. And that was just one year. That was just last year's this year.
It'll be entirely different. What other previous, uh, years, any other examples? Cause that's amazing.
You have to go to Nome, Alaska. The year before the loser, you know, uh, Parcel sports does the rough and rowdy, the boxing deal. He fought in that at the Superbowl the year we were there.
He was, he was fighting in the, in the, in the boxing on Friday night, uh, before the game there. Oh my gosh. You do not want to lose your fantasy league.
No, that's why I try to, I try to put a lot of faith in my body. That's wrong. Just check out our YouTube channel. I don't want you back here on the rich eyes and show radio network, sitting at the rich eyes and show desk, furnished by Granger with supplies and solutions for every industry. Granger has the right product for you.
Call click ranger.com or, or just stop by all rise. Turzo and Iowa is on the phone. Good to chat with you again. Turzo what's going on, brother. What's up, bridge Brockman Dell two-fold TJ.
Hey, rich. Pretty cool. Senior son Cooper on, uh, on yesterday, man. He seems to be like an awesome young man.
You guys got to be proud. I appreciate that. All three of my children are equally the same. And I appreciate you pointing that out or allowing me to that's a weird bit. Thank you. It's not a weird, it's not a bet.
That's the only child. And my dad would probably tell you that, uh, I probably wasn't his favorite. So I know how that goes. Um, rich, I had a tough weekend and, uh, the Houston Texans let me down and the Niners get beat up and I haven't seen that team get run out of a stadium in a long time like that. And then I did have, uh, Quentin Johnson on my fantasy team last night and I needed a whopping seven points from him. And he did not follow him on that one devastating loss in the Carl's league.
Now, when you say the Texans let you down, are you talking financially let you down? Oh yeah, buddy. Oh yeah, buddy. Oh yeah.
That one stung. So I got, I got a little beef with CJ Stroud here. Yeah. Cause we know you as a Niners fan.
We have not known you to Cape for anything Texans before. So I'd ask you, uh, that direct question. Yeah, of course. You know, rich, um, I don't know if the Niners are gonna, you know, win another game this year. And the reason I kind of say that is if, if we go into Buffalo this weekend with the same enthusiasm that we're in, uh, green Bay, we're going to get run out of that stadium as well. And at that point, I don't think we can win our division at nine and eight. And so it almost feels like it'd be a time to start to wrap up and look for next year without getting anybody else, getting anyone else hurt. Now I'm not a fan of doing that, but it just kind of feels like that might be where we are this season. Okay.
Um, I, first of all, it just, it's so saddening to hear you deflated Terzo from this, uh, to the trifecta of, of issues you, you suffered, uh, digitally, virtually reality, financially, all of those things. Um, Terzo, you want to, you want a coaching change? I don't want a coaching change. We've already talked about that Brockman. I think I like Shanahan. I like what he does. I think the main part is, like I said, two weeks ago, I wish we would have take Cooper DeGene and, and I, and I really would have felt that that would have been the spark that we really needed in that secondary as evident in Philadelphia.
Instead of Ricky Pierce, all you mean? Yes, sir. Appreciate it. Terzo.
Thanks very much. It's Terzo in Iowa. Thankfully, uh, he did not mention professionally. I hope he's not on a losing streak there either. Oh yeah. Yeah. Good point.
For the people who need legal help in the heartland. I root for them. Great point. Well, later on in this program, I just went there.
Program. Um, later on, we will be conducting a, we talk in playoffs or what for the national football conference. And I will let you know if I believe the Niners are in or out. That's later on.
There's seven teams for three spots is the way that we have dissected it. And that's coming up in our number three. Don't miss that. But for the moment, it is an overreaction Monday on a Tuesday presented by Sleep Number. That was terrible. That was crap.
That was garbage. This place sucks. Overreaction Mondays, Monday on a Tuesday. All right, Christopher, what do we have? Hey, what's up everybody?
Happy Tuesday. Everybody good? We're good. DJ, you good?
Mike, you good? Yeah, I'm good. I'm good. I'm good. All right. 10 seconds. We can't get back.
It's my favorite part of this segment. I'm sorry. I'm allowed to say that.
I want you to, I want you to ask guys. The Ravens are the only threat to knock off the chiefs in the AFC. That's crazy talk, man.
Come on. I watched the game last night. They got maybe the MVP of the league. They have an absolute closer in the diminisher.
Rich, reliable. Mark Andrews looks back. And I got to say, among the other teams there, they have a coaching edge in John Harbaugh. Over Andy Reid. No, I'm saying they're the threat to the chiefs.
I'm talking about over Sean McDermott. They are Mike Tomlin. There's no question. They're a threat.
There's no question. They're the only threat. They're not the only threat. And you know, they're not the only threat. You know, there's a threat in Western New York. You know, there's a possible Western Pennsylvania threat. You know that it's entirely possible that a division opponent somehow shows up in their house and knocks them off in a divisional round game. That would be surprising.
Or it's not a divisional round game because the bills actually get the one seed, which is possible. All of what I just said is possible. Making a declarative statement such as this, a complete and total overreaction. Come on now. Really? I watched the game last night and I think who can beat them. Back me up on this. I don't know. Well, yeah. You really think the bills can't do it?
The push comes to shove. The Steelers can't do it. Have we ever seen the bill? It's like they haven't done it. Have we ever seen the Ravens do it? We haven't.
No, nobody's done it except for the Pats back in the day. And Burrow. That's it. I forgot about you.
That's the list. I can't say they're the only threat, but they're the biggest. They look great. They looked really good on Monday night. And the best part about it defensively is Rokan wasn't in there and they held their own.
But maybe the... He looked agitated the whole game, too. Who, Kwon? Our friend?
Yeah, I mean, he's agitated that he's not playing. I know that. I know. What else do you have over there, Chris? All right, I look at the other side of the field last night. And the Chargers just aren't ready to be real playoff contenders.
What does that mean? That means the Chargers aren't ready to be real playoff contenders. Playoff contenders to make it? To succeed in the postseason.
They will make it, but they're no threat in the AFC at all. Herbert was doing Herbert things. He's missing guys. He's taking sacks. They're dropping balls. Now Dobbins is injured. He was also throwing out routes to the right sideline from the left hash, dude.
I mean, he's also doing Herbert things in that regard, too. They didn't look good. Well, I mean, Quentin Johnston dropping the football on the third and six when they're down seven, forcing them the punt, and then they wind up giving up a big play to Justice Hill. Ended the game, to be honest with you.
That was it. Yeah, well, that's not gonna fly in the... No, I know. That stuff won't fly in the playoffs, but it's also something they haven't done in a month.
So, which one is it? And you're basically saying it's last night, and it's not the month before, and I won't say that. Yeah, because they hadn't played any real quarterbacks prior to the last couple of weeks. Am I not mistaken, or didn't you have as an overreaction Monday subject matter, the Chiefs, the Chargers are going to make it to the final four of the AFC recently?
I don't remember any of that. I'm focused on the overreaction in front of me. Okay, and I'll say this is an overreaction as well, because I can't sit here and say the Monday night result means they can't have a January result that's surprising or shocking. I would be shocked if they want a playoff game at this point, based on how they looked last night. So, let's just say the Chargers have to go into Pittsburgh. Well, funny, you should bring up Pittsburgh. Let's move on. Okay. The Steelers are only winning one more game and will miss the playoffs. That's crazy talk, bro.
Wow. You look at the game last week against Cleveland, and you know, the Russ issues of Denver are starting to creep a little bit. They really don't have any reliable pass catchers. George Pickens makes the spectacular play, but there's no, you know, easy win and easy layup anywhere on the field offensively.
Everything you do. And you look at the schedule coming up. I don't know how many of these games they actually win. Okay, you just said one more game. They're only going to win one more game. One more game. Okay, which means Cleveland, either Cleveland sweeps them or Cincinnati sweeps them. Yes, and then they lose the other three, and suddenly they're out.
Which one do they win? They might win one of the Cincinnati. And then Cleveland comes into Pittsburgh and beats him. I'm really worried about Pittsburgh right now. I believe you have a right to wonder if Pittsburgh can succeed in the playoffs in the same way you have that doubt about the Chargers, but the Steelers are making it. I look at Philly, Baltimore and Kansas City should beat them pretty easily. So you're saying that the Steelers not only don't win the division, but they don't make the playoffs. And that means like, say, Miami keeps winning and Miami has a better record than the Steelers. Suddenly the North only gets one team.
I don't know. I think they win at least two of the three Ohio games that they have. And they surprised by winning one of the games of Philadelphia, Baltimore, Kansas City. That's the way I look at it. I think they at least they make the playoffs, but I'll call this clearly. We're at odds here in overreaction. If they're 10 at seven, they might lose a tiebreaker to someone.
I agree with you in the concern department. I agree with you in the concern that things aren't as easy, that there's no layups that are right there. The running game could be a layup. Maybe, maybe, maybe a receiver.
Pickens is a layup and it hasn't been in a while. I get it. But this is still an overreaction.
What else Christopher? I'm concerned. You know, it's funny. We watched the, we watched the off season hard knocks with the Giants. I was out here, you know, maybe projecting a little bit that Giants got a path to the playoffs this year. Maybe it's funny because Saquon is going to make the playoffs with the Eagles. And I think Daniel Jones is going to make the post season as well this year. Meaning he's going to sign with a team to make the playoffs this year.
He's going to be on a playoff team and might even have to contribute. You never know. Not an overreaction at all.
Not one at all. I'm sure the Raiders are knocking on his door right now to see what's up because they're, they're going to need a bridge quarterback once they draft one potentially. And I'm sure, I mean, Miami could be on the phone to him right now. The team we saw last night, maybe Baltimore should make a phone call. I'm, I'm, I'm coming up with teams that are currently not in the playoff picture, not in the playoff picture. That's right. I'm nibbling around the edges of your overreaction theory. So I'm trying to see who else might be on the phone that is on the outside looking in.
I, I don't know of one. Cause Dallas ain't it. And it's not going to be Chicago either. So I would say that a team that's currently in a playoff position would be, would be that team to, to sign him. And the Ravens would do well to do it by the way, very well to do it and get him there and up to speed over the next four to five weeks. So Josh Johnson doesn't have a super bowl hope placed in, in his hands. Could you imagine Daniel Jones is the one that would take the, like become the Jeff Hostetler of the situation, right? You know, the Nick Foles of the situation. I don't think this is an overreaction.
Okay. Which by the way, would just only add to the, only add to the East Rutherford drama. DeVito may not even play on Thanksgiving.
I think they might want, is that right? They'd be nice if they had Daniel Jones here ready to play. He's not 100%. They might finally be Drew Lux. I mean, they can't be non-comp, again, we'll talk about it later. They cannot be non-competitive on the beachfront property of Thanksgiving Dallas, AT&T stadium property. They just can't. What if they bring Daniel Jones back?
Can they bring him back after cutting? Okay. What else? That's an overreaction. I like what I'm seeing in Denver, guys. Bo Nix has been awesome.
He can make a case. He's a top 10 QB, not just a rookie. The Broncos are going to win a playoff game. They're going to go to the divisional round.
All right. I'll bite. That means Denver's got to go to Kansas City or, or Buffalo and win a playoff game. Or maybe they're the five seed and they go to Houston.
Five seed's a tall order. Baltimore's in front of them and then Baltimore beat him too. I'm saying Baltimore suddenly is the division leader. Let me see what Pittsburgh, does Pittsburgh play Denver? Did Pittsburgh play Denver? They did not. They, they were at Denver and won it.
So they got that one. They're not going to be the five seed. So they're, they're a six seed going into the, the NFC North winner and winning that game.
That one, I doubt. And I also doubt them having the opportunity to go into Houston because they won't be the five seed. I don't think they're going to have a better record than Pittsburgh and Baltimore at the end of the day.
So they'll have to go to, they'll have to go to Kansas City or, or Buffalo to win a playoff game. Can they do it? Sure. Is this an absolute where you are now not overreacting?
No. So I'll overreact on that front too. You have every reason to be optimistic.
You have every reason to think that Nix could be in say a Stroud spot, which is the rookie quarterback who gets to play in the divisional round weekend. I understand why, where you're coming from. I don't see the path to make that currently a declarative statement like the one you make. So my decision stays a lack of a full. Are we over? Oh no, you like the Daniel Jones one.
I did like the Daniel Jones one. All right. I'm not off.
Am I TJ? I don't believe so. Thank you. I'm phoning a friend over there. Well, thank you. I'm yeah. Oh wow.
You just went Alonzo morning. You shook your head and then you nodded. Okay. Very good. All right. A little college football here before we finish up overreaction Monday into Tuesday, the committee, we're going to see the, the ranking show tonight. And obviously that means not a whole lot, but I think when it's all said and done, Indiana should not make the playoffs. Oh man.
This is, I did some Googling. Okay. I did some Googling and I looked up their schedule and I don't see a single ranked team. I hear you. And then I watched them play over the weekend and they, let's see, don't say to carry the one. They lost by 23. They got absolutely blasted. It was a cute story. It carried us for a couple of months.
Careful with the word cute. That makes it sound like you denigrate what they did, which is still winning every game in front of them. I don't need to see Indiana anymore. It was nice, but it's over. Their issue is that Penn state hasn't been eliminated. Like to have them in as a fourth big 10 team is a tall order, despite how well they played up to the point of the middle of the second quarter in Columbus.
No, it was a little closer on over the weekend. I, you know, a case could be made, but I hear you. I didn't see enough. I understand. And I, I will have to agree with you here for like to say that four big 10 teams make it one third of the college football playoff is one conference. Right. And especially when you know the SEC is going to get three, probably one would think. So that's seven Boise state will be eight. Notre Dame should be nine. Yep.
So yeah, I mean that, that would be, that would be tall. I mean, well, and then big 12 is going to be 10. Right. ACC 11.
11. So Indiana could still be the 12th or, you know, it could still be, they still have a case. You like them over Clemson or. Yeah, I do.
I do. Because it's big 10. That is correct. Right. And I believe in the stoutness of big 10 football and what they did should, should have some merit. We'll see what happens tonight though.
But I think they'll be on the outside looking in tonight. Oh, you do. I do.
Oh. Do you think we need one more? All right, we'll get one more. Do we have one?
I really thought, I really thought we were done. Guys, there are 365 days in a calendar year. Now some of those days include your birthday, maybe like Valentine's day or new year.
Where's he going with this? Or an anniversary. Wasn't there a leap year this year?
Oh, there was, there was. 366. Good job, Rich. Extra day would be great this year. Good job. Thanksgiving is hands down the single best day of the year.
Okay. Out of every other single day. I work on Thanksgiving though.
I worked Thanksgiving for a long time as well. I'm talking it's better than your birthday. It's better than Christmas. It's better than the 4th of July and new years. It's better, Rich, it's better than Sunday at the Masters. Yeah, sure.
Why not? It's better than the Super Bowl. It's better. Hey, even if you got married this year, Thanksgiving is still better than your wedding. I appreciate your love of Thanksgiving.
There's people at your wedding you don't even like. Thanksgiving, you're surrounded by your loved ones. That's right. There's also Father's Day when, you know, you've got, you've got your multiple children who are equally your favorites, giving you gifts and then letting you be like, that's literally one of the only days where I can be left alone. I just want to be left alone.
That's right. Thanksgiving, you can't be left alone. And usually, is there football on Father's Day?
There's usually some people around you deep down don't want to have around. No, there's not. You know, better than Super Sunday? With all due respect. There's only one game on Super Sunday. With all due respect.
There's three games on them. Okay. Thursday. I'll call that an overreaction. I'm with you, Rich.
But I understand what you're saying. Thank you. That's brought to you by Sleep Number. Sleep better together during the Black Friday sale.

O'Shea Jackson Jr. and TJ Jefferson bring their unique take on sports entertainment with no contest wrestling with guests like Swerve Strickland. Why do you use staples like sensu beans, man? It was just something, the concept I came up with, it's an instrument used to punish.
It was just finally those common items. If you see them, you automatically think back to me in that moment. So it's one of those things I wanted to just implement in like my whole character, being the most dangerous man in AW.
The No Contest Wrestling Podcast, part of the Rich Eisen Podcast Network, wherever you listen. Driving. I do. Going to the airport's like, I don't, I mean, I know there's little tricks to get around.
Is that right? What do you mean there's trailers? There's one, there's two way ins and two way outs. There's no tricks.
People to the departures, arrivals, you pick people up at departures. Oh yeah. That's like the secret menu at In-N-Out. Like everybody knows that. Not everybody does it.
Thank you, TJ. You know, the going in the arrivals to let someone depart because there's less traffic on occasion down there is the airport version of slapping the side of the television to make it work. Like everybody knows to try it. It's, it's, it's, it's, it's frequently functional in doing that. It was funny. The other day, the other day on game day morning, I don't know if you were watching any of you caught it, but we tried something new where Kurt would break down film live holding a tablet and he would be able to, you know, draw on it, arrows and whatever, and hit play and draw on it and freeze it himself. And it didn't work. The tablet wasn't working live. And he's just like, yeah, I mean, you know, maybe something can happen here. And like, it's just not where he's saying this on the air.
We're live. So I, he goes, maybe somebody can, you know, figure this out and do something with it. So I jumped on camera, took it from him, slapped it a couple times and handed it back to him thinking like, could you imagine if it begins to work?
It didn't work, but it would have been great television if he goes, Oh, there you go. That's my way of handling things. Why were you wearing the Roman like a headpiece? Oh, well, there's a simple thing right there back on the Rich Eisen show describing game day morning. What were you asking me?
The Roman headpiece. I saw a picture on somebody's story because, you know, it was in honor of Gladiator coming out where I was the emperor and the other people were dressed as you know, plebes pleading the playoff case for certain teams. And I was either thumbs up or thumbs down.
That's a good idea. It was fun. It was a fun segment like that. It was. And then and then Tory Holt and Orlando Pace came by and, um, I hugged them both. Uh, one of them, I needed to get on my tippy toes to actually hug around the, his shoulders. That was Orlando.
Big guy. What I thought was great about that. We briefly talked about it yesterday was the fact that those football players got to be on the field with those three.
If they just listened, if they just took a little piece of advice that Kurt gave them or Tory gave them or pace gave them, it's going to make them better players. It's cool, right? Those kids, they were from Nogales, um, here in Southern California. It was pretty cool to see.
I'm glad you watched that. Um, so listen, there is breaking news. I'm being told. Here it comes. I see breaking news. Is this going to make me happy or upset me? Well, it depends on your outlook life, Rich.
I know you're glass half full guy. Aaron Rogers is still talking on Pat McAfee right now, but you know, a lot of speculation. Uh, Dana Rossini had a report over the weekend that, um, you know, the Jets might think about either IRing Aaron or, uh, basically releasing him.
Daniel Jonesing him. He didn't know if he wanted to play next year. Other teams could be options. He talked about that today with Pat. As far as my future goes, uh, I haven't told anybody in my life that I want to play in 2025 and not on the Jets.
So that's a hundred percent false. Um, I actually said the opposite. You know, I said that, uh, I'm going to wait and see what happens, uh, with, uh, at the end of the season and if they want me back and what happens with brick and what happens with the offensive staff and obviously the GM at the time.
And, you know, then they just fired Joe. Um, there's a lot of things out of my control when it comes to that. Um, but I I've really enjoyed my time in New York. I mean, obviously we haven't had success that we've all wanted to have, but, you know, I've made some great friendships on the team. I've enjoyed living in Jersey. I've enjoyed time in the city.
I've enjoyed getting to know the fans. Um, and I came here to win here. Uh, so I'm not jumping off ship, uh, you know, like, Oh, I definitely want to play and not in New York. Like, I don't even know if I want to play yet, but New York will be my first option.
Yeah. Listen, uh, I'm numb to the whole conversation at this point in time, but I'll say this two things. Uh, one, you know, let's see how the next six weeks look for him. We'll see what he looks like coming off a buy just in terms of football wise. Cause he just doesn't look like a healthy guy.
Or you could say he looks over the Hill and he's toast, which I know you and a lot of people share that opinion of watching him play. Um, and you know, it doesn't help a coach gets fired here. Gentle manager gets fired there. And then all the other stuff that you hear, but there's gotta be, I would think, um, a premium placed on anybody who wants to be around this franchise right now, because that might not even include the owner. Hey, I'm hiring a coach and I'm hiring a gentle manager and I'm leaving the country who wants to come and work for me. Uh, you know what I mean?
Like that's not the greatest pitch, you know? And I'm somebody who just fired a coach in the middle of the season after reportedly wanting to bench somebody for not performing well in one game for us to drop to 500. I mean, like if all of that stuff is true and it's true that the, you know, it's just been a terrible vibe in that building, who wants to be there? So Roger's saying, I'd like to be here.
I kind of like being around. And he mentioned brick. He means Jeff Ulbricht. I would proffer to say hiring a coach who would keep Ulbricht around. Because Ulbricht walks, he might be the next defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, which is apparently what caused what he wanted to keep him around. I don't know. I don't know what's true.
What's not true, but what you read, it doesn't sound like a very fun place to work. And for Rogers to sit here and say, I'll stay. The question is, you know, if he's really half of what he used to be, then he's pretty damn expensive for that. And if he's not there, Devante Adams isn't going to be there. But starting with somebody who wants to be there is, I think, a good place to start.
Am I wrong? No, I think the line that concerned me when I heard that was, he hasn't decided if he wants to play. And this is the same guy who said he went into his darkness retreat, 90% retired. Well, there was business to be done, and there's business to be done here as well. There's money that's guaranteed, that's not guaranteed, that he wants guaranteed. I mean, there's business at play just as everything else, which is why there's even conversation that they're going to sit him, because they don't want money to be guaranteed in the same way that Daniel Jones is currently looking for a new place of business for himself. So a lot of this stuff is business, and you can't blame anybody for trying to squeeze millions of dollars out of somebody. Certainly, if you find out that that person was trying to bench you, and again, everything that gets ascribed to Rogers as being negative, what happened in the whole business that he ordered the code red on Sala, and then we find out that Sala saved his gig five days before? How does that circle get squared? Which, to bring it a full circle, is why I'm numb to all of this.
Hour number three coming up with David Aldridge. You know what I mean? I'm wondering if you talk to any Jets fans who still have a feeling about all of this. I'm related to a couple of them? No, I know. So your brother's still living and dying? Oh yeah. I haven't spoken to him in a few days, but yeah. Oh yeah. All the Jets. Vinnie Pasquantino's texting me, what do you think?
What do you think? And I'm like, dude. Then you hear what, the 33rd team?
Yeah, I know. My Ike Tannenbaum is helping pick the new coach and GM. Mike is one of the sweetest guys I know, and I really like him. And for a Jet fan to hear the guy who put the whole damn team on a credit card in the Rex Ryan era, we're going to turn to him to figure something out. I hope he's right. Well, what if it leads back to Rex being the head coach? Because Rex is kind of openly campaigning for it. I mean, okay. Here, coach. Honestly. I mean, Rick Spielman, who's also part of this, was the one who apparently led to Adam Peters having a marriage with the commanders.
That works. So I'm not going to denigrate anybody for saying that they're, you know, that they're not going to do a good job or they're credible, but it's just like, oh, we're, we're going to go reach out to others to help me decide. And so you as a Jet fan should now suddenly have a lot of confidence in the process. Like I'm again, numb to it all, all of it, but it does start with start winning some games. Now, what can it hurt you? Well, here's your draft spot. I get it, but I don't know. I'm numb.
Hey, it's Rich Eisen here. Join me and my compadre Chris Brockman every Monday on the overreaction Monday podcast, which Jamis has taken the browns to the playoffs, dude, why can't they win seven, eight games to finish the year? Why not? I'm not saying it's no, why not? But this is a definitive statement. That's clearly an overreaction and it's perfect fodder for a show like this one. I appreciate you coming out of the gate, hot come react or overreact with us overreaction Monday, wherever you listen, it's game over over, man.
