This is the Rich Eisen Show. Live from the Rich Eisen Show studio in Los Angeles. It's not just Caleb, they're ready to roll. That's what you want with a kid that you draft.
I guess the question is going to be, is the speed of the game going to be an adjustment for him? Today's guests, ESPN NFL reporter Lindsey Theory, author and actor Jay Ellis, NBC Sports Boston Patriots insider Tom Curran, actor Eric Dane, and now it's Rich Eisen. That's right, that's right. Welcome this edition of the Rich Eisen Show. We have a sense of urgency every single day. Every single day we have a sense of urgency.
We play defense well before the fourth quarter with our Olympic lives on the line. Are you picking up what I'm putting down right now? Pulling threads ripped straight from the headlines just to start this show in what I hope is an entertaining fashion. Hey, we're live on the Roku channel. We're live on this Rich Eisen Show terrestrial radio affiliate Sirius XM Odyssey and more. Three in-studio guests today, Lindsey Theory of ESPN, who I do believe was at the Rams Cowboys practice in advance of their preseason game this weekend, at which Jerry Jones said he had no sense of urgency in signing C.D.
Lamb before the season. She's first up in this hour. Then we have the funny man and actor Jay Ellis, author right here on the Rich Eisen Show. He's got a new book called Did Everyone Have an Imaginary Friend? I'm holding it up and I assume that's the way you say it because there's a question mark.
Do you see how my inflection point went up? We'll ask him how he actually pronounces the name of his very entertaining new book wherever you get your books. He will be on this program. He's been in Grey's Anatomy. By the way, this is Grey's Anatomy Day today, right?
Because the famed McSteamy is on today's program. Eric Dane is here in hour number three. He's in a new film called One Fast Move, which is available streaming now exclusively on Prime Video, which, by the way, you can see right here on the Roku portal.
He's in studio hour number three. And, you know, I guess what do we call it? The NBC Sports Boston McRinkled? What do we call him? McDuncan? Yeah, McDunk is good.
I don't know why we got to make fun of this. Tommy Kern. Yeah. Tom Kern. Tommy. He was there watching Joe Milton get a statue made last night of him. Joe Milton? Joe Newton? No, Joe Milton.
Yeah. One series for Drake May. Pre-season football's off and running.
Malik Nabors played a cup one series and he's like, he's already basically saying, I'm open. I love it. Pre-season football has begun, folks. We'll discuss it all on this three-hour edition of The Rich Eisen Show.
It's a what's more likely Friday. Good to see you over there, Chris Brockman. How are you? Hey, look, man.
I also live to make Steve Kerr look good. Okay. Oh, boy.
Dude, this guy. You won your championship. I don't understand it. Be happy. Be happy. We're in the gold medal game. I'm not happy.
I don't understand it. I'm rooting for France. Be careful because Kevin Durant is going to start clapping back at you. He was clapping back at all the Nuggets fans that were rooting for Serbia. He's amazing. That's how he spends his time overnight in Paris. He's great. With a billion in the bank, clapping back on X.
Never changed. On all the Nuggets fans. Kevin Durant.
So that's what's going on on NBA Twitter in the first week of August. Yeah, he's the best. Jason Feller, how are you, sir? Good to see you. We're going to have a great day today. Good to see you, TJ Jefferson. How are you? Well, Rich, I'm feeling like my buddy CeeDee Lamb today. L.O.L. H.B.T.C.?
How about them Cowboys? Okay. Okay, very good. L.O.L. I thought it was happy birthday, Tom Coughlin. Very good. Oh, it's not his birthday. It's the only thing I can think of.
It's off the top of my dump. Tom Curran. Okay, Tom Curran.
Hey, Mick Duncan on the show before McSteady. How about this crap? Yes. How about them Cowboys? Because we know, we know, we know they're all in. Come on, guys. Every champ has been pushed to the center of the table. They are all the way in. This is never going to die, is it? Never. Dude, this is the way it's going to be all season long.
Does it have to be? Because the way that they are entering this season is the manner in which we will be talking about the Cowboys every single week. If they win, it must be because they went all in. If they lost, it must be because they went all in and the manner in which they went all in. That is the way it's going to go.
And then, and then, and then, because they do have a very talented roster, when it does come time for winner go home time. Well, that's as all in as it gets. It's way down the road. It doesn't get more all in than that.
It's way down the road. And then the question is, is, you know, the way Jerry Jones conducts his business has been a conversation piece for decades, decades, decades from the minute he took the team over and then a year later told Tom Landry, beat it. You know, and then he hires Jerry, Jimmy Johnson. And then we know what happened with Jimmy. I don't need to litigate, relitigate the whole thing. You know, we've been talking about the way that Jones family has been conducting their business in Dallas every single day for decades.
And now we reached 2024. The way that he conducts his business is you got three guys you're going to have to pay, not market value, top of the market value. Three guys whose play, whose excellence mandates, mandates that they have the top of the line market. And because of the way the Joneses apparently conduct their business, they have leverage enough at some point to command resetting the market value. Dack, no trade costs, can't franchise tag him, the season's about to begin, clock is ticking, he's going to reset the market when he's a free agent or he could reset the market now.
This takes a nice chunk out of the pie. And then that argument that he had with Dack the last time this happened, certainly if you're C.D. Lamer, can't apply to him, and then there's Micah Parsons at some point, he's going to have to get paid too. So if Nick Bosa makes the most of anybody that's not a quarterback in the league on the defensive side of the ball, then guess what? Micah's going to be next in that regard. And then C.D. Lamb could be like, if Justin Jefferson makes more than any non-quarterback in the league as a receiver, I can do that too, because there are some metrics where he's better than him. So on and so on.
And so forth. So when Jerry Jones has a microphone stuck in front of him with a gaggle of reporters around him at the Rams-Cowboys joint practice and is asked if he has any sense of urgency to sign C.D. Lamb, and he says this, it's going to be talked about. Hit it. Are you saying there's a sense of urgency as you begin the preseason to get C.D. done? No. No? Why do you say that? I'm just, I'm just, I went to high school or I went to college. I don't know why I said it, but I'm just saying I don't, I don't know. I don't have a sense of urgency about getting that done. It's a long-standing tradition. Take any reason you want.
I was at Nobu two days ago. Give that as a reason. This is insane. Not a serious, not a serious person. They're not serious about winning. I'm sorry T.J. This is insane.
They're not serious people. So C.D. Lamb saw that video and uh and just retweeted it with the words uh uh lol the letters lol laugh out loud lol now there's many different ways to interpret that lol like you gotta be kidding me lol like we're negotiating and so he's he's trying to put on a public face that I know is not the case as a matter of fact Stephen Jones as this was happening was on the doomsday podcast with uh our good friend Ed Werder and Matt Mosley saying at the time quote we plan on doing it meaning reassigning all three of them we want all three players here we have the best chance of winning a championship by having those players on our roster we think the world of C.D. and we understand where he's coming from on this and why he's not here but we continue to work very hard on getting this deal done zero zero zero thought process about C.D. not being a Dallas Cowboy. That's what Stephen is saying while Pops is talking about the sashimi salad cracking jokes which by the way I hear is delicious oh my god let me tell you something the miso cod at Nobu is like cotton freaking candy it is amazing but by the way you need to have franchise tag money to even think of affording it yeah I've never even been to Nobu let me tell you this but I've heard good things lol you know who saw it and reposted the lol Micah Parsons Micah Parsons reposted for anybody who follows Micah I don't I don't get it I don't understand it I will never get this this negotiating strategy maybe it's just Jerry's like are you kidding me I've been doing this for decades we're going to get it done and you know it costs me money it costs me money but I'm I negotiate the way I negotiate I have no idea and then I reposted this morning Chris right here okay Dallas Cowboys lol now that the question is is what's going to be the more appropriate headline for the Dallas Cowboys football season we went all in got what we wanted or lol because you know if the Cowboys don't get anywhere in these vicinity of the NFC Championship game the rest of the football world will be lol you need the Dallas Morning News to start operating like the New York Post like after every loss just lol well or the ultimate l right which is the strategy of all-in didn't work honestly I don't know how to interpret it I'm not gonna even begin to figure that one out other than the fact of you know uh I'm I'm or maybe Jerry Jones and he thought it was funny and he's just like his first initial reactions no there's no sense of urgency I got the guy on the contract number one number two we're gonna get it done so that's it there you go there's that and and again we know it I know there will be three guys on the Dallas Cowboys who are immune to the all-in stuff right now they're caught in the vortex of it their names are Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, Micah Parsons, Stephen Jones flat out said it because he was you know being serious about it on the pod he knows it they know it Jerry knows it too we know it the American people know it the football folks know it everybody knows it now then Brandon Ayuk the question is is you got him you got Jamar Chase you got CeeDee Lamb and the question is is Ayuk gonna go first and is that what CeeDee's waiting for and is that what Jamar Chase is waiting for and we all know the Niners gave him permission to seek out his value to find a trade partner because for all intents and purposes the Niners have not met his number or the number on the table is the number for which he can play this year for them which is 14 and change and I think we can all understand the way things have been going in this National Football League world for the wide receiver position for somebody with his stature and status 14 million a year just with one more year left and nothing else behind it except potential franchise tags that ain't working for him so that would make sense for him to stroll in and say I want to trade and the Niners then basically saying there's the door to find your value as long as we get value back for you right and it sure seems to me Ayuk's found his value certainly the Patriots hit a number that unfortunately for New England does not match the number if you will of players on the roster similar in status and stature to make top of the line value and in terms of Brandon Ayuk who perhaps has not spent a lot of time in the northeast in his life and to uproot and go across the country and throw his hat in a ring with a team that's clearly I mean if you had to name franchises that are as far afield of the 49ers chances of winning a Super Bowl this year and in the future the Patriots are one of them right now and it's not a disrespectful thing to say that no doubt totally agree so take them out of the mix but it sure seems like the Browns and the Steelers have hit the value for him the question is have the Browns been the Steelers hit the value button for the 49ers I don't think so bingo I don't think so because this just in if you're looking for somebody coming back for Ayuk that can cause you to help you to win right now on either one of those teams right I mean Amari Cooper would be one Amari Cooper would be one yeah for Cleveland and then uh but but Cooper would cost the Niners more money this year than Ayuk yeah he's at what 20 plus they they they plus them up a little bit to get him into camp in Cleveland and then George Pickens who I think is a non-starter for the Steelers right yeah correct correct so why again that's the point of like why were the Niners trade Ayuk on the outset of the season you're not getting value back for him right you're not gonna be as good so my spidey sense just tells me tingle in a little bit what I said yesterday and I feel it now more than ever today I completely if there's any franchise that could put Humpty Dumpty back together again and take a guy who looks like he's not only out the door but never considering to come back in the door and get him in the fold and use him to make a Super Bowl it's the 49ers where's the best place for him and who's the best player for the 49ers it's like staring everybody right in the face right it's like what are we doing it's like what are we doing and so why wouldn't I just go back there if the Niners hit the number like the number has been set the number's been set they're not hitting the number not yet not yet and I personally think they should and I think they will how does that sound sounds great if you're a Niner fan well and Ayuk you know apparently he's got a little kid almost four I mean why are you you're gonna uproot kids you're gonna uproot he doesn't I bet he doesn't want to go but if they're saying to him hey you're playing for 14 million a year then he's gotta go and Cleveland and Cleveland and Pittsburgh have said come here and the Niners you know I totally understand why they'd be like yeah no because we need 11 and 11 is probably like if you need me then hit a number paid that man his money yes exactly and sometimes it just takes some time to get around and personally I think the midnight should strike for the Niners like let's go pre-season's happening but you know I mean Purdy's around the corner you gotta pay him gotta pay a lot of guys I'm sure it ain't easy this this puzzle for Lynch and the rest of the staff there but it's just kind of staring everyone right in the face like why would you want to him to be showing up in the AFC North when you could just have him show up week one against the Jets figure it out figure it out I mean right you know who wants him out there probably everybody Deebo yeah of course McCaffrey yes everyone whose job is going to be made easier yeah you know Purdy how about that Shannon Lynch probably one AB I'm sure in Jed York too but I mean you gotta if you're gonna allow him to check out his market right then he sees his market I mean now you're gonna tell him you pay for what play for half here I mean it's it's a it's a tough yeah way to go or do you keep playing it out to see if the value from Cleveland and Pittsburgh go up because again that's like the Yankees and Red Sox bidding for the same player that I'm thinking midnight's got to strike soon that's what I'm thinking but I think comparing the Browns to either the Yankees or the Red Sox no disrespect might be a bit of a stretch you I think you know what I'm saying teacher right okay very good I'm not loling at that all right let's take a break Lindsey Theory of ESPN is here let's find out what she knows about what the hell all in means and loling and all that stuff next on the Rich Eisen Show The Rich Eisen Show is sponsored by Grainger. for details back here on the Rich Eisen show or on the Roku channel for just a couple minutes radio audience will rejoin shortly Lindsay Theory of ESPN is right here on the Rich Eisen show good to see you Lindsay thanks for having me right so um you're you're a national champion volleyball player from college huh I am well I rode the bench but I can still claim the title right excuse me excuse me this is no like Jason Tatum is riding the bench right oh my god you got to give that up I'm I will never give it up he's a self he's a Boston guy okay don't don't wrap Lindsay into your I was just comparing her to Jason Tatum so uh University of Washington the same University of Washington University Washington is that where you're from or from Seattle uh born and raised went to high school went to college there and then I had to uh journey away to start the career so how'd you get into how did you get hooked up with ESPN you know why it took me 10 years I started in a little great falls Montana anchoring the local news I did read in California so yeah I got turned down from reading did you really yeah they said bad hair and get out of here your style which which which station I couldn't even tell you but I'll never forget the look on the woman's face and I left there feeling so crushed oh I got you have no idea I got doors slammed in my face talking about stuff like that you know um but okay but to hell with them now right there we go I get the last laugh and so ESPN finally gave you the call and then how'd you get hooked up with the NFL beat well the Rams came to town so I was at the Los Angeles Times covering USC cool during all that kind of chaos with Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkeesian and all that and then the Rams came so got bumped up with my pal Gary Klein to to cover the Rams and then a couple years later ESPN came calling and said we want to make you our Rams beat reporter so I did that were you on the tarmac I was not on the tarmac but I will tell you I was awake in my hotel back in Tempe waiting for that call and I fell asleep with my laptop on my computer waiting to hit send and I told you I had friends blowing up my phone like Lindsay you knew this was coming where are you love it I couldn't stay awake that long Lindsay Theory ESPN here on the Rich Eisen show radio network I'm sitting at the Rich Eisen show desk furnished by Grange with supplies and solutions for every industry Granger has the right product for you call click Granger.com or just stop by uh NFL reporter from ESPN formerly of the Los Angeles Times Lindsay Theory is here on the program so um you were at the Rams Cowboys practice were you part of the gaggle around the gaggle so trying to figure out what is going on right now right so so it did Jerry just like have a moment or like what happened where he's the CD lamb yeah Nobu stuff you know the Nobu thing was what kind of threw me off because I'm like are we joking here are we being serious right uh you know as far as practice when it was kind of like okay not a lot coming out of here today uh the Dak Prescott Brandon Cook's connection is the highlight of the day and then all of a sudden Jerry's yacking it up with uh Sean McVay and then he comes over to talk to the reporters and we're standing there and obviously he gets asked what's the latest CD is there any urgency with preseason game starting he's like no weird kind of silence like what what do you mean no and Jerry as you saw I went to high school I went to college I don't know why I said it I mean what do you mean by this and then he just said I don't have a sense of urgency and it's kind of like you're standing there hearing this and everyone's chuckling and Jerry smiling and chuckling and then he throws out Nobu and you're kind of like is this guy serious and does he know what he's saying but of course he knows what he's saying he does this all the time uh so then you very quickly realize okay that's out there on Twitter within 30 seconds right and CD then is retweeting it lol I say lol but lol yes and uh Dak Prescott walks off the podium when he's done saying I have a sense of urgency if you guys want to know right is that what he said yeah he walked off the podium and said I know you guys want to ask and I do have a sense of urgency and after what you saw at practice like they're clearly missing CD lamb so it was just it was bizarre and yet totally totally on par for the Cowboys at the same time did you take Dak's yeah I have a sense of urgency to mean he wants CD back or he's talking about his own contractual situation he wants CD back okay right like he wants CD out there he wants CD as part I mean they need him that that offense can't be what it reached its potential without him obviously like that's no offense to Brandon Cooks and Turpin and those guys uh you're handing off Ezekiel Elliott but it's CD lamb he's basically the linchpin yeah and and so is there a sense of of what because I I know you're you know your former colleague uh Ed Werder has a podcast the doomsday podcast with Matt Mosley as well where Stephen Jones was talking to him at the same time yeah and saying the stuff that you would think that I guess what he's is he being good cop here I don't I don't as opposed to funny cop or serious cop right right the sense after all this went down was that Jerry knows exactly what he's doing they're going to have CD lamb like does Jerry like does Jerry have a sense of urgency probably not because the season is still a month away so I guess what's your time frame on urgency yes but uh he's very much going to the sense I got pay CD lamb it's just is he losing sleep at night to get it done tomorrow no but he knows it's going to happen right this league things don't get done until you know midnight strikes or it's a 1201 league or it's like labor day weekend when everyone's trying to enjoy their last day off and then suddenly you have to grab your computer out of your beach bag and you know do it we all know that covering the national football league let alone the Dallas Cowboys but yes I mean um and I feel like it's groundhog day I mean you know I've been at this a while and it just seems to be all these negotiations about 95 percent of them is all about arguing when somebody's sense of midnight is you know like that's it I covered the rams long enough to know I mean we were always Jared Goff like literally labor day weekend I'm going out to dinner for my birthday and I told my husband oh we got to stop they just signed Jared Goff right like Aaron Donald held out for all those years like this is just how the league goes they don't get the deal done until it's the 11th hour and at the end of the day they say oh we kind of also saved his legs we did this we did that so the urgency comes when game week comes until then you can't really get too out of sorts with it so can we evaluate the Cowboys at this point in time I don't think so I mean watching them like again the highlight of the day was Dak Prescott to Brandon Cooks what is there to take away from that and so okay but the general sense around the Cowboys facility is CD will get done yes what about Dak yeah so that's really interesting because the more people I speak to not necessarily in the Cowboys organization but just around the league who also have you know a great sense of how this stuff goes is like they're starting to think that Jerry Jones is ready to just roll into the season and and see what he has like Mike McCarthy's on his final year Dak Prescott's on his final year and if you're Dak and there's always that possibility that he goes and signs elsewhere but if the Cowboys have a great season and then Jerry goes well let's pay you why if you're Dak why would you entertain other teams if you're coming off a great season and if you're the quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys like that's arguably the most lucrative position in all of sports because of everything else that comes with being in that role so they risk losing him but given that it's Jerry Jones he might be willing to just say we're gonna start over if we can't get past this hop and go deep into the playoffs and get me to a Super Bowl like he's kind of a little bit of a wild card enough to say great I'll go find a new quarterback certainly if um Dak is trying to reset the market significantly right now his sense might be well um he'll reset the market significantly next March too um I do have the risk of somebody significantly resetting the market with Dak elsewhere and losing Dak but he also must look across the NFL and know who's got the gumption or the space to spend 60 to 65 million on a new quarterback and there's probably not like more than two or three teams potentially right uh unless we see somebody get hurt this season um that changes the the the situation so he might be just like yeah I mean there's no urgency with Dak but CD there's urgency yes there has to be I mean you know you just you don't replace a receiver like that on the open market you don't just right even if you are planning to evaluate what's going with your coach and your quarterback you need that receiver for the long haul so like you have and if you want to succeed this year like Dak kind of knows his situation right he knows what's in his contract as far as the no tag uh clause and all of that so he knows like this is it for me but if you're CD lamb you need more security because you don't have all that and you don't want to go through the franchise tag situation so that seems to be a situation they really need to rectify in order to kind of reach their potential going into the year Lindsey theory of ESPN here on the rich eyes and show what's the sense around the Rams what do you what do you get around that team yeah so the sense around the Rams I mean well first of all you look on the field and you can't help but notice like Aaron Donald is not there right and it's it's almost I think been understated that they have a lot to make up for on that side of the ball so you talk to people and it's like well this is not a one-man job to to fix that hole the sense on the offense right they're going in with Cooper cup and Puka Nakua and you know I was talking to a couple their assistants yesterday and they feel really good about kind of the younger guys that they are developing but for a team that was in the Super Bowl a couple years ago you look around and it looks like a completely different team yeah I mean that was the sense of it last year and they still made the soup the the the playoffs and um and and you you have to assume that they're just going to get uh better and they're just as young uh but Stafford got a little bit of something extra to come into camp yeah um and and so is there any sense any concern of Nakua's injury or anything like that what's that about they're really saying no like he's going to be ready week week one but I will tell you after covering Sean McVay as long as I have any time that Sean goes to day to day week to week you start thinking to yourself how long is this really going to be because that timeline I can tell you is never what it is what do you mean like Sean will say oh he's day to day three weeks later oh is he ready to play he's ready to play so I don't you know I know Sean tries to give the media a lot of information and yet when it comes to his injury reports I've learned it's always a little bit longer than what Sean's saying so they came out and said week to week already yeah yeah so week one I I'm not sure that it's a it's a certainty that that Puka Nakua is going to be out there for them okay but Stafford appears to be engaged and yeah young and hard and all that business because he said he was thinking that he thought the thumb injury was going to potentially be career ending last year no well I think you I think you know he's reaching that age right where he is a really still really good and I think that kind of in his camp like they want him to be talked about as though he's one of the best in the league which he is and it's kind of this more like can the Rams please keep showing me that I am up there with the best quarterbacks and so like that was the hold up this year is you know get some money moved over to make his salary you know closer to what the what the league resets been but the sense around Matthew Stafford is that he's playing you know the best ball as he has been and that he's ready for another season to try and get them back deep into the playoffs Lindsey Theory here on the Rich Eisen show let's talk Raiders what because that is truly I guess you could say there's a quarterback competition with the Broncos although I think the general sense is that Bo Nix is going to start week one even though we haven't seen any preseason action from him yet but the Raiders like that's a legit quarterback that's a legit quarterback competition what is happening there Aiden O'Connell and Gardner Minshew if that doesn't make you just get excited and want to get out of bed I don't know what will I is that harsh well if you're asking uh no no but no I understand where you're going right right so like talking to people around the Raiders it's kind of a toss-up they like what Aiden O'Connell brings to the table the kind of x-factor that Gardner Minshew has that they also like is just kind of the intangibles like the leadership the ability to bring guys together um so it's very much a competition when you watch the reps at practice it's very when I was there for a day evenly divided um but neither one of them's jumping off the page so it's probably going to be more about the guy that can just be consistent and obviously utilize their playmakers I mean Devante Adams I have to say the day I was there I was very excited to see Devante in person and up close and it's like neither one of them could really find Devante Adams oh gosh um yeah well I mean you know the narrative in our business is that you know for a while it's that Adams you know to be blunt wishes he didn't leave Green Bay now okay now obviously he's paid a significant amount of money and obviously he left uh initially as well part of it was he was going to play with his college quarterback and Derek Carr and he's not there anymore and I think you know the other part of it that uh you would hear is that he's closer to home in the west coast or the pacific time zone but then you see you know receiver on Netflix yeah and then you can also sit here and say well he was cursing his head off about Jimmy G and what was going on in the Josh McDaniels offense and that's all gone so but to hear though you know just from one practice obviously we extrapolate so much in our business is there any there there what do you think well it's really interesting because I think they're probably going to try to make it work right through the first part of the season then the trade deadline will come now what I'm very interested in seeing is Tom Telesco right he was the general manager of the Chargers for years and years now he's with the Raiders now he took quite conservative approaches to the trade deadline and to unloading players or bringing players in it just he just didn't do it so I'm going to be curious in the Raiders organization with Mark Davis and with Antonio Pierce if that method changes and they decide if things aren't going how they would like it to if they go put Devante Adams up and then put them on the trade block and see what they can get in return because it would be probably quite the haul for them uh but kind of historically speaking that hasn't really been Tom Telesco's MO when it comes to the trade deadline although you know you got to give it up though the fact that Antonio Pierce is the head coach and the fact that they missed out on all the rookie quarterbacks because of the winning that was done when Pierce was the interim why can't the Raiders continue on this year and do it with him now right if Minshew is an upgrade from Aiden O'Connell then it should be better or if Aiden O'Connell was a significant part of the winning that happened when Pierce took over last year maybe he is a guy and and Adams will be happy and the Raiders can actually be in the mix and the Raiders team that shocked the Chiefs on on Christmas as the last team to beat the Chiefs can actually make some hay this year I mean that's I know I know I just looked at the glass half full but that's that's not in the realm what I just said and their defense is obviously incredibly good they proved that last season and they have the same guys coming back this year so there's no reason why the Raiders can't be a very much improved team especially on offense it's just going to as it does with every team come down to the quarterback play and if those guys can successfully and consistently you know run that offense so before I let you go across the street or neighbors the Chargers what did you glean or I don't know when you were there last but about Herbert's foot here I mean like that's where it's all here before Justin Herbert obviously injured his foot I mean what do you kind of know talk about those injuries like those things can linger I mean but if there is anybody as tough as Justin Herbert I mean the guy played last year with his thumb like kind of in kind of out and around so it'll be interesting to see that the part that I'm concerned about whether his foot heals or not is that this is a new offense this is an entirely new receiving corps for him Quentin Johnston's going to his second year there's improvement that needed to happen there Josh Palmer is going to be a guy that's been around but really has never risen to the level of play that they need from him consistently so Justin Herbert's missing really valuable time so while they're optimistic week one is very much within reach it's like how much of just building chemistry are you missing out not being out there for for several weeks and if so like how much time is that going to take in the season for you guys to be able to kick it into gear together so uh being around I guess you being around I guess you you've been mostly southern California based so far during training camp but just the general sense I'll ask you the question I've been asking so many of your colleagues and ours in the business certainly in the reporting and information business that uh in which you you you reside the the the team that everybody's talking about that has most improved that has gone ahead saw their issues from last year hit it in free agency hit it in the draft hit it in the coaching hiring that feel people feel all right that that team or or improved their standing from last year's already terrific standing I I'll give you the gosh you're gonna stump me on the final question on that like who is there anybody that they're talking about that that um that's vastly improved their standing I don't know that there's anyone that I've in all my conversations that's vastly improved the team that always just comes up is the team to try to beat out here obviously beside the chiefs is is the 49ers sure I mean they haven't observed anything all they have is like controversy going on right now sure so what about then I guess which team do you you hearing the most that has the the best chance yeah depending on how the brand new situation yeah shakes out the Niners like they are the the team to beat they're the team to catch out here um you know it just it just depends on a little bit for them whether or not they can get that situation solved which if there's a team that can rectify sure it's become a very sticky mess it it would probably be Kyle Shanahan and John Lynch okay so then what's your your favorite story that you've heard over the past my favorite story that I've heard that you're willing to share oh my goodness uh you know what probably favorite story I've heard is just Antonio Pierce they came out here for training camp and he was taking his guys out to the beach for their final walk through jog through so I thought okay that's having a little fun they've been sweating it out is that what you're saying like denim jeans playing volleyball I don't know maybe that's in someone's contract no no injury club that's probably true but uh that that to me is like you know just a sign of they worked really hard they were getting I mean it was a very physical practice what I saw and now they're a little bit of fun kind of makes sense that Antonio Pierce would have a physical practice right yeah I mean that's just and go to the beach after and he's a Long Beach native for sure okay very good oh yeah that's right he's uh he's an LB Long Beach poly yeah okay just like the the the king of uh the Olympic coverage Snoop right yeah um okay Lindsay thank you so much for coming here I hope uh you know you make this a stop when you're because you're based out here I'm based yeah very good all right but so are we uh everybody check out uh Lindsay theory uh on ESPN and all of their uh programs jones here all on our youtube channel please be a follower if you don't mind back here on the rich eisen show all right chris excited for joe milton milton mania what do you think cup of joe at duncan's doncaccino everybody needs everybody needs to calm down like warren sharp and mike florio and all these guys they can post kind of stir the pot what do you mean stir the pot he's literally playing against guys who are going to be ups drivers in two weeks like let's calm down what did florio do don't rope him in what did he do what did he do oh he made a post about it this of course about oh where have we seen a sixth rounder oh because i wrote bazooka joe yes you were excited too i was excited or it was a wide open easy pass he made for a touchdown listen everyone calm down what joe milton did is he looked to his right he gave a shoulder pump fake and the guy to his left who as you said might be you know potentially delivering a package shortly but these guys are all you know still real guys who are trying to make teams and have dreams and hopes just like you do chris that carolina defender the carolina defender beat him that carolina defender the carolina defender bit and great made a nice throw in a wide open pass cool highlight he had two really cool highlights fans are going crazy great it was pouring down rain and it wasn't real football so you're not excited i mean if he can be i think it was all caps it said bazooka joe in all caps i mean i guess sarcasm is lost on people were you sarcastic it was a fun exciting play for a guy who's sarcasm who is the fourth string quarterback right now why get upset by this it's like you should be excited like if this guy is no no what i'm upset about what i'm upset about what you'd be like are people trying to be like oh he's going to be the starter he's better than drake may no that's the issue that's what people are insinuating why does that upset you what if he is but you're not watching you're not watching practice every day i don't think you are well here's the thing may i may i jump in may i jump in i'm consuming enough may i jump in the reason why he's upset is that he's from massachusetts is that in the same and this and it's the same way that i i'm sitting on a draft set in radio city music hall on the day kirk cousins gets drafted the day after rg3 got drafted and i'm like what the hell's that all about because if this guy plays there's a big problem with rg3 exactly and so his sense is if milton plays there's a big problem with drake may like even this year let's get let's give joe milton some run instead of drake may that's a terrible idea correct so that's why it's like if you're going to celebrate joe milton being like the real deal it's just and your buddy holly is calling drake may you know the the ghost of uh yeah seeing ghosts like mac jones like mac jones well then that now now but we got problems but also if you're wondering why he's not happy it's because he's a boston sports fan i mean you cannot be happy unless you're unhappy you're at your most happy when you're at your most unhappy and i was already unhappy i was already unhappy watching the game yesterday because jason tatum got another dnp he's getting ready to root for france in the gold medal game because he's pissed at steve kerr not giving jason tatum any run after talon jaylen brown you're not welcome so suddenly when's the gold medal game when's the gold medal game saturday okay so get your brie cheese and your fries and all things french and sit there with your beret like your like your jason kelsey sitting there watching fencing yeah okay get on s cargo oh wendy and rudy this guy right yeah you're not happy he's unamerican unless you're unhappy that is the boston sports fan mantra that's an awful mantra to have i'm sorry that's the only way you know so be understanding don't be critical it's it's the only thing he knows that's a shame i married into family a family like this i've been around boston sports fans for a long time especially when the yankees were doing things to make them miserable tables have turned it's fun so that's all it's great okay i enjoy it but i am pretty angry joe melton looked great man how great did joe melton look i mean he did that's why i said jim is zappy look better like everybody stopped by the way did you hear they booed zappy because drake may played only one series so it started with a preset then went may and then all the fans wanted to see more of may outcome zappy and they boo him what a poor kid man and he said after the game like i was used to it i've been yeah he's just trying to play i mean come on poor zappy not his fault he gets out there boo like hey man they were cheering this man i was the winning quarterback of bill belicheck's final win as patriot coach i don't understand fandom sometimes i really know yes you do you understand i don't get it rich first off the stadium was half full it was pouring down weight rain they're already miserable because they're sitting in that slot and they're already miserable because they're boston sports fans what more do i need to tell you tj i have to drive one way into foxborough and one way out sit in traffic one way out and no but those who stayed to watch joe milton throw it and spin it yeah bazooka rewarded rewarded rewarded but that's the way to look at it if you found out wait a second we just got something no no because then you wasted the third overall pick do you not understand that is the issue come on man like i said with the Steelers last year and rich was like they just strapped the pick sometimes you got to cut your losses absolutely there's no loss drake may is going to be awesome everyone relax by the way he's going to be awesome relax tj would you relax i'm chill like this throwing bazookas like i said running around like vic back you know what it was vic he was literally playing against us we were out there for the panthers you know what you know what joe milton should do today today you should get fitted for a red jacket why not number one on the depth chart joe milton stop give him a dunkaccino and a red jacket where you going he's gonna he's gonna feel bad when joe milton goes to the hall when joe milton's leading you to playoff glory you're gonna feel real dumb about this day i tell you that but in all seriousness chris you know this better than anybody else all of us do you need a third string quarterback in the nfl these days man yeah and so he's a great third stringer unless bailey zapp can we talk again a little bit barely he gets food in a pre-season game guy's just been hanging out all all off season seeing drake may come he knows his time there's losses like right just get rid of zappy like he let him let him let him compete somewhere else right he's not starting week one he's not starting week one drake may's not no it's jacoby bersett's team it is and then let's just move on from there please can we get our young wide receivers that we're so excited about some development absolutely absolutely he's shown booty nice game last night there you go so fine we're gonna win two games it's all no you'll win more than that well you won more if you put joe milton i hate that qb1 dude you're the worst don't don't go there anymore for him i have to please because you see how sensitive he is lol that's my response to you well i take it i know tom current's joining us um in the second hour just had a very nice chat with j ellis in our green room during our last commercial break he's about to come out here in support of his new book did everyone have an imaginary friend and the answer for joe milton is absolutely his imaginary friends are named bruski and vrabel and brady because he's going in the hall well for he's going into the hall in new england already former navy seal sean ryan shares real stories from real people from all walks of life on the sean ryan show tucker carlson
