The New York Giants are allowing unprecedented access to their off-season activities, including team building and quarterback evaluation, in the latest Hard Knocks series. Meanwhile, the Yankees are struggling, and their star player Aaron Judge's best years may be being wasted. The team's manager Aaron Boone is under scrutiny, and the Yankees' inability to surround their stars with talent is a major concern. In other sports news, the Vikings' quarterback situation is uncertain, with Sam Darnold and JJ McCarthy competing for the starting role.

This radio commercial was made to convince you to stop speeding.
We can't use siren sound effects on the radio, so we'll use other equally jarring sound effects to get your attention. Like telling you that whether you drive a little over the speed limit or a lot, you can crash just the same. You could hurt yourself or worse others. I'm at the scene of the collision. And the damage you cause will be beyond repair. See, we didn't have to use crash or siren sounds after all. Speeding catches up with you.

That's dell.com slash deals. This is the Rich Eisen Show. Rich Eisen. He's not a bird. He's not a plane. He's super bad. He's funtacular. Live from the Rich Eisen Show studio in Los Angeles. Were you surprised Kirk left?
Yeah and no. I always knew, you know, Kirk was gonna do whatever he needs to do. I just knew that, you know, everything just wasn't, you know, the way he wanted it to be. Today's guests, sports media personality, John Boy, senior writer for the MMQB, Albert Breer, 49ers tight end, George Kittle and now it's Rich Eisen. That's right everybody. Welcome to this edition of the Rich Eisen Show. We have Justin Jefferson in studio in support of the new documentary series receiver on Netflix that you could see right here on Roku. We had him on Tuesday and it's now out here on Wednesday.
Don't watch it yet. You got three hours of us to watch, okay? And then we got George Kittle in studio hour number three. He's never been here in person and I know he's been, he's zoomed in, he's called in, he's just, he's just an aces, a plus individual as well as a tight end. He's so good, he's a tight end on receiver. So he's here in studio hour number three. Albert Breer in hour number two. I believe he'll be zooming in from Nantucket, Massachusetts. 10 on point.
Which means he's probably, he's probably a quarter George Hamilton, half George Hamilton. Pastels for sure. By the way, he's coming out for the Rams training camp and the Chargers training camp and the Cowboys training camp. I think five NFL teams are training here in the Southern California area this summer. He'll be here later this month, so we'll see it in person in glorious technicolor. The dream coat that is the Albert Breer will be zooming in an hour number two.
And John Boy of John Boy Media will join us. We'll check in with one of our favorite voices that talks baseball. He will be on this program in about 18 minutes time to talk about the, I mean I don't know what's happened to the Yankees. They were 50 and 22.
They're now 55 and 38. That man is playing a very small violin over there because his red socks are now 10 games over 500. Just keep winning baby. I do want to ask him the question you asked me on overreaction Monday of the Yankees wasting Aaron Judge's talent and I want to hear from him on what we've been all talking about that maybe Paul Skeen should just start the All-Star game since that's what a lot of people have been talking about and wanting to see him. Let him throw an inning right off the bat even though obviously he didn't play the entire first half of the season.
He started in the minors. But that said, that's how we're rolling here today. 844-204 Rich is the number to dial.
Phones are already lit up which we greatly appreciate. Good to see you Chris Brockman over in your position. Jason Feller is here. Good to see you Jay. Hey what's up Rich?
What's going on sir? Oh you know just happy to be here. When did you actually know you were going to be here today officially?
I think it was 9 15. I finally said is it me or you? Last night?
To him? Me or you. But I think today is my last day of my residency.
Oh man. Tomorrow? I think he's back tomorrow. Really?
For a day or two. Okay. I'm gonna boo him.
We sure Uruguay doesn't have a game to play. Okay. That's tonight right? TJ Jefferson how are you sir? I'm good man. Good to see you. It's a treat.
Candles lit. It's a treat when players meet. You know that.
I do. And you uh you got Justin Jefferson to sign a jersey yesterday. Yeah man we're gonna keep it in the family archives you know for generations to come.
Very good. You know he got the bag I didn't but that's fine. And Kittle will be here. Kittle will be here later on so it'll be a great conversation. We'll talk some wrestling with Kittle hopefully because you know he's a big fan.
Wasn't he at WrestleMania? Of course. Okay. Yes. So Kittle will be here uh and I wouldn't miss it because it's just always great when he's here.
And start schemes. I've been saying that. Yes. Stardom.
I love that dude. Three up three down. Yeah.
Let's go. Well we'll ask John Boy that shortly when he uh when he zooms in. I want to thank the New York football giants for um allowing us to see what we're seeing in this Hard Knocks series. When the uh the folks at NFL films and HBO announced what was it about a month ago or a month and a half ago to say hey we've been following the giants around and there's going to be an off-season Hard Knocks. And a lot of the Hard Knocks conversations that we used to see during the summer series that we really don't see anymore because there's an I think uh appropriate amount of sensitivity surrounding um teams cutting players. You used to see that? Yeah. I believe when we came on the air the other day just before we came on the air the other day I was seeing my my uh my network showing the old Jets Rex Ryan go get an f'ing snack Hard Knocks series.
Yeah you're playing them all. I was watching the Cowboys this morning. And um and just shortly before we were on the air uh Mike Tannenbaum was cutting the current head coach of the Minnesota Vikings Kevin O'Connell.
That's awesome. Yeah and but you saw the conversation in his office. You don't see that stuff anymore. You don't really see too much office conversations and that's what we want to see as fans. And it's so compelling.
Yeah. Boy are we seeing that in this Hard Knocks series right now. I love the first episode. I know we're going to get into the second one right now but this is what I was super interested in when this was announced. Team building is really fascinating especially in the NFL where you know every 53 they all matter. We're letting the Giants the Giants are letting us see a lot of stuff because I would imagine they have uh you know to use a jury selection phrase a lot of preemptory strikes here where yeah we don't want that out there. Yeah we don't but man we've seen a lot like you know we saw uh on on uh on the program through the first couple weeks a lot of conversations we talked about uh on yesterday's show because this was revealed in the first episode while we were off last week about Joe Shane saying you know uh Daniel Jones and not even Patrick Mahomes could succeed behind the line that they were forced to put out there last year due to injuries and everything else. And um the revealing conversation that we saw between Joe Shane and Saquon Barkley's agent where he's like I'm just not going to put a number out there let's let we're going to let Saquon test the market but if Saquon really doesn't want to be a giant for life and be in the ring of honor he's got to like can we get your word that you'll circle back to us once you find out what the market is so if we're in the neighborhood we'll have a conversation of matching it and then we we hear the conversation that Joe Shane has with Saquon to say hey you know um we're gonna let you test the market gosh that's an it really is awesome and we also now are seeing through the combine weeks and the talent evaluation weeks of the off season we saw what um I was always wondering the conversation is like when I'm sitting in the booth and we're our cameras are zooming in on the luminaries that are watching the proceedings like what's the conversation like and you're seeing Brian Dayball and the rest of the staff of the Giants chit-chatting in their suite which is where teams are mostly stationed although one of Dayball's predecessors Tom Coughlin always used to sit on the 10-yard line of the 40-yard dash line so he could personally hand time the 10-yard splits Coughlin got pissed at me one year when I took out my blackberry and took a photograph of him he said for my for my fresh freshly made new twitter feed then you posted it yeah and what did well I took a picture and he goes he said to me come on rich you're better than that but Tom Coughlin said to me the early days and I felt I did feel shame I felt shame but now Dayball and the uh and the uh Giants brass are like most teams they've got their own suites you know their food gets served behind them they sit there and they talk about running 40-yard dashes themselves do you see this one Brian Dayball saying he could run a seven sub 7 40 now this is before he lost the weight this is Dayball in full bloom full bloom yeah full bloom Dayball write it down write it down free pre blue Govee uh Dayball at any rate you see you're seeing these comments but it's laugh out loud funny because they're all telling him he can't do it he can't run a sub because and and I saw all the preview links to this because people were tweeting them at me saying Dayball thinks he can run sub seven you run you run damn near six flat in a suit what do you think I don't think so listen but I can't tell look at him right now maybe now look at him right now now he looks great when we saw him at the Super Bowl I don't think he could run seven tj but it's just funny hearing what these guys are talking about um but in all seriousness the the the real reveal is the stuff that happens every year when a top prospect certainly at quarterback comes into a building and they put the kid on the board what does that mean it's a grease board and or a chalkboard or whatever and they tell them to drop a play or they say or or they say or or they say this is the our play this is the way we call it this is what our terminology is do you know what our terminology is can you draw the play up knowing what our terminology is can you then read back what the play is to us can you then draw it up and you saw the top prospects of the NFL go through so jayden daniels do it and you saw drake may do it and I don't know if patriots twitter lit up over this for you people are excited because drake may the phrase I used prior to the show I'll bring here it was a pinball wizard at it jayden daniels is very good at it as well as you might imagine and trust me as everybody keeps thinking I bring this subject matter up to try and hunt and peck for evidence that my rumor that I came back from the combine with that the giants were over daniel jones is right even though daniel jones is 100 percent the hope for the giants 2024 season to a be ready and b prove that his contract that he was rewarded with at the time very uh friendly for him and also now in retrospect for the team 40 million dollar a year contract uh is worth it and that he might actually be able to play deeper into it although the 12 million dollar a year running back is not there to hand off to for the 40 million dollar a year quarterback and they go again those are phrases that now come from joe shane's mouth thanks to the giants allowing that to slip through the goalie if they are that with their content for this series but i'm not doing this to hunt and peck for information that makes me feel like i was right again i'm just reporting rumors this is not my it's the one time i do it by the way i screwed up i have a master's degree in journalism not a bachelor's degree in journalism oh how could you my buddy paul caught that mistake on our youtube feed congrats selling yourself short i did sell myself short bob costas what i did also then say was a degree shy of being dr television which makes now sense that i knew it was a master's i don't know why i called it a bachelor's but any rate long story short is i only traffic in this stuff once a year so if i'm wrong i don't really care you stay in your lane truly the giants love drake may i heard it over and over again i'm wondering if we're going to see in future episodes of this series are they going to let us in the draft room in the way that we've been led into these meeting rooms are we going to get that sort of access i because that would blow my mind one of the preview clips i saw was from the draft room when they were praying that my weak neighbors is going to be there now that's fine because they wound up with the kid right they wound up getting him they wound up getting him and they are going to wind up really depending on him and and hope that he can be a difference maker for a team that sent essentially based on even their own admission in their own conversations in the room their identity their offensive identity they they allowed him to check out his market and he's now down the turnpike in division with a rival ready to stick it to them so they so yes they're happy i imagine the giants to show you how much they were hoping malik neighbors would drop because they got the kid are we going to see whatever conversations happened with elliot wolf with the patriots that wound up being fruitless for them because drake may really did well on that grease board in episode two of this hard knock series that was a cool clip though that i that i did see from last night of the giant spotting the patriots on the other side of the combine joe shane taking a walk all the way around knocking on the door and telling elliot wolf hey look if you're thinking about moving the pick just give us a heads up yeah so we can make an offer right and that's a way that maybe somebody saw joe shane walking around the combine knocking on the door of the patriots and maybe someone from the patriots was talking to somebody else hey do you because this is the way that works uh honestly hey over a drink or two guess who stopped by and asked us for our pick today and then suddenly that winds up being told to somebody who winds up telling me from multiple people that the giants are done with daniel jones and you saw the giants concerns in the first episode of hey look this is a guy with three major knee injuries this is the way teams get built i love it and rosters get massaged and worked over it's so good and that's why i started by saying thank you to the giants for saying okay it really is fascinating uh and i suggest everybody seek it out obviously on max which you can see right here on roku look at us boom it's just we're we're partners we're weaving and we're disseminating information and we're disseminating information bob uh and uh we and we we were able to say hey george kittles on the show in hour three able to say hey albert breer and his tan in hour two um and let's talk some baseball yankees lost again last night carlos radone yankees scored one in the first in uh in tampa and then radone gave up four in the bottom of the first and that was all she wrote ben rice another home run though hey man he's he's raking right now let's the yankees definitely need him think about it on that friday night in boston first game between the yankees and the red socks this year for some reason on june 14th the yankees went in there and crushed the red socks and they got to 50 wins first team to get to 50 wins in baseball and right now that 50 and 22 team is now only one better in the lost column than the minnesota twins so they they are flailing they are um in dire straits and we are one week away one week from this day next week talking about what happened in the all-star game that's where we're at in major league baseball season so john boy's up you're also up at 844-204 rich number to don will review what justin jefferson said here yesterday making a little bit of news because we're newsmakers too did i mention that what don't you do john boy is Back on the Rich Eisen Show radio network I'm sitting at the Rich Eisen Show desk furnished by Grainger with supplies and solutions for every industry Grainger has the right product for you call clickrainger.com or just stop by. Well let's talk about all the baseball season the all-star game in Arlington Texas is set for next week and you can follow along on on all the previews and the recaps from John Boy Media's Talking Baseball podcast the founder of John Boy Media back here on the Rich Eisen Show John Boy himself how are you sir? I'm doing great thank you very much for having me. Of course anytime and I'm not gonna lie this is a therapy session for me in a way okay because the Yankees were 50 and 22 when they went into Fenway Park and won the first meeting between the Yankees and the Red Sox they are now 55 and 38 I'll do the math that's 5 and 16 what has happened to the Yankee team that won 50 of their first 72? A lot of the same things that have happened in past seasons which is disappointing because this team felt different for a while last three years they've started off so hot and then they hit this June swoon and this one's particularly bad and I do think that Red Sox series exposed a lot of the flaws I am giving credit to the Red Sox on on that because I think after that people saw okay let's jump fastballs early the Yankees were the team that had the least swings on all counts against them and now they're getting a ton and Rodon is really struggling with that his ERA is above above 10 since that Red Sox start obviously the Red Sox exposed just run on the catchers you can steal all day singles become doubles and they haven't been able to recover or counter punch and then of course you have some injuries Stan going down has hurt I think that's really the only the only one on the injury front that has hurt them though yeah I guess because Rizzo was seemingly still struggling from his concussion last year we're assuming or or a defraying of his abilities I think it took about almost a month for DJ LaMejia to hit his first extra base hit after coming back from his season beginning injury so what what are the fixes for this sort of thing in your estimation? Stan coming back would be nice because I think there was a perceived threat of Rizzo that teams were like well he's not he's not hitting well now but he's going to come around and maybe if Rizzo was still healthy and performing at the level he was at this point that threat would be gone so that's why I think Stan's the big one because right now teams are are walking Soto and then attacking Judge out of the zone or a lot of breaking stuff in the zone and once you get past those two you kind of are home free so they need someone to protect Judge you know Verdugo and Stanton was a threat so there's some pitches being made there they also need a lead-off hitter to get on so then Soto sees some strikes and then the whole bullpen so there's there's kind of a lot that's the scary part it's the infield and the bullpen need a lot of help. So I'll ask the question that my colleague Chris Brockman posed to me in our overreaction Monday segment this week that really hit a nerve certainly for a guy that was a die-hard Mattingly fan and how his career was quote-unquote wasted um do you think the Yankees are wasting Aaron Judge's best years right now John Boy? We're this season away from it becoming a Mike Trout's narrative yeah uh which is not fun now obviously they've been in the playoffs when they got to the ALCS in 2022 they were not a good team they only had Judge and Rizzo and got swept by the Astros so yeah I do think that narrative I've already seen it a little bit I'm like I don't know yet because they've made the playoffs and then haven't haven't uh you know come through in the dance whereas Mike Trout they never even got him there besides that one time but yes you need to build around him unfortunately you know they gave him a ton of money so if they want to bring Soto back and give him a ton of money it you're going to have all you know controlled contracts and rookies surrounding them and their ability to develop these players to surround their stars hasn't really showed itself well and then that's where things lie on the lap of Brian Cashman and Aaron Boone do you think um are you hearing not to place you into the lane of information um men and women from the baseball industry but your ears to the ground you talk more baseball than anybody else and so is there any sense that this five and 16 swoon if it continues through the all-star break could actually cost uh somebody a gig it could could Hal actually be shaken into uh George action in my I haven't heard anything I I don't think people even I think people just say it'll never happen because it just doesn't seem like that has happened Cashman was on he was quoted saying he think managers a 10-year run that's what like Tory had and it was even longer that's what Girardi had I believe there was a quote after the 2021 season saying he believes managers you know 10 years is a good amount of time for a manager so they extended Boone the last time this came up but this year is last year was a Cashman in the front office issue they had not a lot of talent on the roster at all this year they have talent to win and they have the pitching staff to win and they really believe in guys like Verdugo and Volpe and Glaber so then who then who who does it land on now that they're not winning and they're they seem defeated and we've seen lack lackadaisical play that's got to land on the coaching staff and Boone and I asked Boone about that the last time I chatted with him yesterday and he said they are trying it just I understand it it can be perceived that way and I said why that's tough to swallow because it really looks like they're not in it they just think that they will be the message of the Boone era seems to be if we play to the our abilities and we just stay steady we'll be fine and we'll get out of this but they've never gotten out of the rut so almost needs a new message of let's change some things let's try something different and I don't know if we're going to see that because we haven't the last couple years founder of John Boy Media John Boy here on the Rich Eisen show just talked to a lot of Yankees let's talk about some teams that are performing a heck of a lot better and that's at the the top of the the AL East right now the Baltimore Orioles and again I I don't know if it's just that they they had so many draft choices because they were so horrible for so long it but it does seem that they hit on so many of these kids and it's gelling and that's just another sort of jarring aspect of obviously Ben Rice hitting three home runs in a game was nice for the Yankees but you don't see that out of New York you see that out of Baltimore you're seeing what's going on in Cleveland what do you make of the rest of the American League right now halfway through John Boy well Boston is playing really well and their pitching staff has been excellent that's tough to do in Fenway where runs are very common and the the Orioles are young feisty they come at you a lot of ways I think the Orioles need to make some moves at the deadline and they have the ability to do that because they have such an influx of talent especially it's overcrowded in the infield in a way it's it's surprising the Rays and Jays are that far behind I thought it would be more than a three team race and I thought one of those teams would be in the race but they're all playing good ball right now and there's a lot of games to go against each other in the AL East the Orioles are scary to me if they make a couple more moves get another starting pitcher they're pretty scary the Red Sox are I don't know if they're scary to the rest of league but like I said they seem to know exactly how to beat the Yankees this season and that's frustrating John Boy here on the Rich Eisen show let's talk National League as well we were discussing the other day in the all-star game that's coming up next week baseball should just say listen Ranger Suarez we'll tip a cap to you and sale and you know whoever's had a terrific first half of the season from opening day to now but why not start Paul Skeens in the all-star game for the National League because of the heat that's on him and the heat that he throws what do you make of that John Boy why not that would be a great marketing move and what is the all-star game about is it about rewarding the best that have played the first half of the season it's not even really the half because voting starts at maybe a third of the season in it's always been my gripe is you know you have a good first third and you're an all-star and then 20 years from now we go well he was an all-star in that year and it's like well he could have been terrible the next two-thirds of the season or is it a marketing ploy and the home run derby is definitely a marketing ploy and I do believe that if Skeen started it you would have way more eyeballs so you just have to read the room of the players obviously baseball is a sport that tries to stay true to its history even though it doesn't make sense because there's so many different errors and and standpoints of a talent assessment but I like that I would I would I would vote on the marketing side of hey if this guy starts more more people are going to tune in that would not tune in otherwise and and you're a perfect guy to ask about this man because you've created a remarkable business out of talking the sport that everybody kind of carps on for not having a national following that it's a regional sport now when again I'm 55 older than you but when I was a kid baseball was still the the national pastime and and so to me making moves like this this is this would be sort of akin to the proper tinkering that the pitch clock has brought to the equation that the uh the lack the the getting rid of the shift the bigger bases making moves like this as opposed to the gimmicks they tried to say world series home field advantage is based on who wins this all-star game like make make the all-star game something like this john boy you know what I mean yeah I agree I I appreciate the fan vote to get guys there I also sometimes we saw in whatever year was when all the royals were voted in and they had to adjust it a little bit and he was like well we can't do that but if you know the rule that every team needs to send someone we're already saying okay so someone that's earned it is going to get screwed if the person you know thankfully tanner scott and the marlins this year deserves it but we've had time for someone just has to go because every team needs to be represented so that's already setting the precedent that you can earn your spot but have it taken from you because of a marketing reason which i'm for so you just need to get all the old heads and the people that say he hasn't earned it yet he can't be starting in his first year uh to just simmer down and say no it's gonna be great for the growth of the game which everyone cares about yeah and everyone and everyone should and you know the stuff that you're doing as well a 12-minute breakdown of ellie della cruz's greatness um is is exactly the sort of material uh you know we were talking about here the other day what what did you what did you glean from all of that with this kid john boy he is unbelievable uh he's so fast he's like a a glitch in your screen from first to second and yeah i did i wanted to see a deep dive because there is i've realized the caught stealing and stolen base numbers the way that we have been tracking them are just incorrect and for years i've been looking at this data and thinking about it if you look at it right now the yankees catchers it says they're decent at throwing runners out they're not the pitcher will turn around when the runner starts to steal and throw it to second baseman he'll be out but because they'll give that to the catcher of record so it says jose travino's thrown out like 10 runners he has not he's thrown out three the pitcher has he was just standing behind the plate in the squatting position so i wanted a deep dive in daily day the crew's like how many times has this kid attempted to take off per available uh times and it was insane he's he's always running and why wouldn't he be he's he's a glitch i mean would you say we haven't seen somebody like him since ricky henderson uh yeah and i can't say that i've seen ricky henderson you know in the way you know being old enough to actively watch and know what's going on so well i mean just in terms of that i mean the guy would stand at home plate and you had to stop what you were doing when the guy got in the batter's box you had to stop what you were doing and then when he got on base there was like an oh no um aspect of it if you were going against ricky and then he would invariably stand wind up on third before before honestly he would wind up on third before maybe the the second uh batter after him was a couple strikes into account like that's how crazy it was and also he could just pop one in the gap or he could pop one out of the park and then in the field he would be just as entertaining as well i i've been lost in the highlights a lot and with ellie he leads the league in strikeouts right now and that's not always a terrible thing judge led the league in strikeouts his rookie year also won rookie of the year um and broke the home run record for rookies at the time but if you're allie day the crews and you have that speed and you're you're young enough that you're going to have that for a while i'm sure that's going to be a point of interest is cutting down the strikeouts because if the ball's put in play the threat of him running down the line is enough to make some infielders bobble it you know and get a little shaky so it's it's if he can cut down on the strikeouts it's only going to get even more fun to see him on base more and and you'd have to think he'll learn that certainly if he's learning japanese as a third language you know what i mean like so uh he's going to get better absolutely it's a skill that we've seen rookies learn and adapt to and especially when it your judge still strikes out a lot but that's his game he takes his a-swing a ton so it's he's got to commit and agree yeah okay if i'm on base more that's better for me and the team and baseball so i think yeah i'm sure he will last one for you john boy uh just circling back to to the yankees you could make the case right now uh they are the fifth best team in their division uh for real uh and and it's kind of crazy again they were 15 22 the oriel's and they just lost to the rays again last night uh i mean the amount of times a rosa reina has literally flexed on this team this year i've lost track uh the red sox are now 10 games over 500 and you know um we we've seen what the yankees have been up to lately what's what what should they do what can they do could do they just uh i don't know i i would say give up the farm for mason miller or if he's available or give up the farm for somebody else but if they had a farm we'd see these guys in pinstripes right now i'd imagine so what do they do yeah they they definitely need help in the corners they need someone that can hit that can play first or third i've liked what ben rice has done i don't know if you can bank on that he's the guy to take you home i'd love it if he he was i really enjoy watching him they need bullpen help right now their bullpen is a waiver wire bullpen uh anyone can come and go besides canley and clay home so they need top end help but they also need just guys to eat innings along the way they have some coming off the aisle there and then i i don't think they need any help starting pitching i think that'll come around and hopefully clark schmidt returns but you you really need stanton and and clark to come back and you need verdugo volpe and glaber to be able to provide some help i think they have enough talent and the schedule softens a ton in august and september but this hole they're digging can get really deep because these guys are not returning for a month and i don't know if any trade they make is going to help them and the schedule is relentless through july so it's just how deep does this hole get dug and how much can you get back when you're healthy and made some big trades i'm getting nervous i'm with you i'm with you man that's a shame okay that's the red sock fan in the corner right there but he's he's got all you got all the reason to be happy right now all of it and we're overachieving so this season's kind of a wash you keep saying that but you're 10 games over 500 and we'll see what happens um john boy thanks for the time brother uh enjoy the uh the all-star game in arlington uh the talking baseball pod is how you can follow that as well as the rest of the uh offerings from john boy media thanks again appreciate it thank you that's john boy himself right here in the rich isin show that was a delight it was great for me i stopped i i honestly um was i smiling too much during that interview yesterday no yesterday i'll be honest i'm just sitting around you know just trying to um take one of those 10-minute naps right yep power nap wake up get in a get an alert yankees are at one nothing i thought to myself oh let me see uh let me see what's going on so of course i didn't get up from my chair at all because i've got you know the um the mlb app yeah pop the game on and uh randy roserina just is doubling in the corner to tie the game at one and i turned it off and then um 30 seconds later got an alert yanks down four one i'm like okay that was my uh checking in on the Yankees that was my that was it yesterday meanwhile across town how you doing oh we're 500 right now yeah i know so for us in the nl that's good enough to be in the mix oh yeah especially the way this season was going man like i knew it was going to be bad but it was it was bad and again like that's the beauty of baseball but also it's it's curse in a national um competition for eyeballs right name me name me another sport where you could be first two months of the season a total complete doa you know and now it's like hey we got a chance that's all you want is some hope man this season's so long it's just like give me a reason that's the beauty of baseball but it's also the curse in terms of like okay so why should i live and die in may and april right and as a Mets fan i've been dying in doesn't matter for many many years but many many years but in the nfl go ahead and try and chime in after uh two months and see if you missed anything missed so much everything so yeah 8 4 4 2 0 4 rich numbered adult right here on the program we come back we check in on uh what's going on with the minnesota vikings based on some of the conversations we had with justin jefferson yesterday don't go anywhere it's kickoff time and believe podcasts are here to get you ready for the season he wanted to change the culture and he wanted me to be a part of that with believe you get immediate reactions game previews and expert analysis from all 32 teams plus all of your favorite college teams he's just rare in just about everything he does sideline to sideline end zone to end zone this was good for everybody just search believe that's b-l-e-a-v podcast wherever you listen back on the rich isin show what does that job pay squad goals i mean just seeing video of the argentine football president cheeky tapia did he's not name is cheeky chicky c-h-i-q-u-i wow and again the fact that he doesn't feel the need to have his own you know take out the the pocket square and use it to wipe his own brow like hand it to another guy i won't move no please put that out one more time if you don't mind i won't move i'm just gonna sit there and have a conversation and watch the game while somebody wipes the sweat from the side of my head and then then just presses up against my neck is it a cold press oh my god is it a move guess what i'm saying it's not like he's even turning his head to help him hit an angle where he can get the sweat what the hell i wish he would have been eating a hot dog or like drinking a soda how did you talk to that guy afterwards right you don't want to lock eyes with the other guy oh i don't notice that at all but could you imagine i love it you know again um all of us thankfully have you know moms in our lives that are interested in what we do and how's your day what about this guy hey what'd you do what'd you do today son well i went to copa america met life is really hard and i wiped the neck of my boss free of his sweat so and mom would say well why well i mean well it's hot he can't have his collar have sweat stains huh yeah what are we doing so proud you get a college degree for that wow anyway that's the world of soccer let's talk about our football you should have adam come out every uh once an hour and just yeah yeah yeah well i mean sarah comes out and reapplies makeup and commercial breaks that's one thing but it's not like during the show where right well you got your own personal sweat pit crew i'm afraid of sarah what the hell make her be the one to do it so let's make her clean your glasses before i've seen it it's all right but that's this is fine these are fine things let's talk football american football uh we had one of the best of the national football league you can say he's the best at his position in the national football league great question justin jefferson he was in studio yesterday and um listen cd lamb when he does start playing for the dallas cowboys again we'll have dak prescott throwing to him okay we're good tyree kill when he um goes training camp he'll have to throw to him yeah kelsey will have my home's throw to him you see where i'm going with this justin's quarterback is now in atlanta trying to fend off michael pennix but justin jefferson now has sam darnold throwing to him because kirk cousins is no longer there and i did ask justin yesterday how he uh he took cousins leaving are you surprised kirk left uh yeah and no um i always always knew you know kirk you know was going to do whatever he needs to do whatever he needs to do for for you know his business wise uh and i i just knew that you know everything just wasn't um you know the way he wanted it to be uh here and especially you know just with uh having to pay me and you know having to play so many other different guys i feel like he he just wanted a new start a new opportunity to you know start with uh atlanta and atlanta and uh a clean slate and uh i'm not mad at him at all for that and uh you can't blame him for saying that not mad at all for him for that because he said yes and no the no part is what he expanded on not to put words in the mouth of our guest after he's left but the no is that's well i'm not surprised because they had to pay me and he wanted to do other things for his career and his family and so i'm not surprised about that but the yes part you know he also said prior to that portion of our conversation yesterday um that he did confirm what we see in the receiver series that by the way is out right now on netflix which you can see right here on roku that he has an alter ego if you will called jets on game day when he puts in he says his his grill and his shades yeah and he gets ready to go and and jets comes out on the field if jets was sitting in the chair you know what the yes means about why you would be surprised of kurt cousins leaving why the hell would you leave me exactly right you see me you see how good i am would you leave me with all right now with here's an older respect with all due respect to drake london yeah right and kyle pitts and john but do you see how easy i've made your life the last why would you see that catch in buffalo leave me in the same way that i am getting 35 million dollars a year and he did also say justin jefferson was very i think humble and saying that kirk helped him reach the levels of where he's going yeah no doubt and where he's been and where he is but same could be said for kirk cousins going to atlanta and getting that money because there was a fourth in 18 w in his book of wins that somebody one hand grabbed that's the jets would have said here's the yes part here's why i'm surprised could you see who you left you know let me put my teeth in real quick and and again that's and that's why i think sam darnold is going to have a better year than what people think and he's he's in the baker mayfield launch position where okay you've got a few years of knocking around and you've been knocked down and you had a terrific college career and he was chosen two picks after baker and he's got a quarterback friendly coach just like last year but one that he's got jets and he's got jordan and he's got tj hockinson and he's got aaron jones so it's not like darnold isn't surrounded yeah the cupboard's full cupboard's nice and so let's not sleep on sam if the sam of the first three weeks mvp sam of the first three weeks of the 2022 season shows up but that's literally the only carolina pants i know that sam darnold is a good quarterback and so he's really got to prove it and so i think my question for the vikings is how long is this leash because we heard that's true the glowing praise of jj yesterday about jj mccarthy but also sam so sorry i don't know i'm just i'm just curious like does the ripcord get pulled and what does that look like for minnesota well and again i don't i don't believe jj mccarthy is going to start the season i think sam donna will and of all places interestingly enough met life where he once saw ghosts he's taking on the giants first up yeah seeing ghosts and it will be interesting if he's still starting against the jets week five in london that's for sure how long the leash is something we'll ask albert breer in a second but we're still here on roku you look at minnesota's schedule it's not impossible i mean again again everyone's got a tough schedule or whatever you think is an easy schedule doesn't turn out to be one again when i say the baker mayfield launch position baker knocking around now on multiple teams much more success though baker well i mean he did make the playoffs and did win a playoff game in pittsburgh passing touchdown right and so i'm not saying this is apples to apples i'm just saying that i'm taking someone from that draft highly drafted multiple different teams now having a chance to start somewhere else with not you know with only a one-year deal essentially right baker now has a three-year deal in tamp and tampa i'm not saying that's what sam will get in minnesota he could get it maybe somewhere else because it will be jj mccarthy's team at some point also this could be his final shot to be a starter in the nfl so what were you gonna say uh oh just you were talking about what sam with the jets and i was like but he didn't have this arsenal he didn't have oh that's true this type of weapon coaching please and experience now you've seen multiple offenses you've yeah i know what it's like to be a professional i think he's gonna jefferson to throw the ball bingo he's in the alex smith spot bingo so but that's what i took that's justin said yes and no he expanded on the no and was too much of a gentleman to expand on the yes and the yes is he left me he left me me welcome to talkville the ultimate smallville rewatch podcast season four i'm glad that it's over i'm glad that it's over um as as we know now that season five is supposed to be one of our better seasons obviously the tattoo storyline you know how i feel about that you were hating that storyline probably a lot of joy because i kept waiting to see how it was going to keep going and then how they would somehow settle it binge seasons one through four of talkville before season five begins wherever you listen you
