This is the Rich Eisen Show. Cocaine bear. Saw it. Survived it. Live from the Rich Eisen Show studio in Los Angeles. I don't want to spoil anything. If you like gore, you'll like seeing people in bad spots get mauled by a cocaine bear.
This bear loves cocaine. Earlier on the show, ESPN NBA insider Brian Wintorse, Michigan State head basketball coach Tom Izzo. Still to come, your phone calls and more. And now, it's Rich Eisen.
Ah, yes. Hour number three of the Rich Eisen Show is on the air and it is beginning to rain very hard here in Los Angeles and that freaks everybody out. Wherever you might be in a cold weather state listening to us or watching us for free on the Roku channel, a huge amount of snow in your area, a heavy rain here in Los Angeles is akin to that.
People just freak out. And I grew up in New York City. I had snow days. There were snow days in New Jersey. Of course.
We had snow days. Two days, yeah. You'd wake up, okay?
Yep. There was no social media or anything back then. You'd wake up and you had to watch the local news. Or listen to it on the radio. Or on the radio and pray to God your school came up on the ticker on the bottom.
So it's like 645 and you kind of got your boots on but you don't and you're just watching. Did you make a way to make a lunch? You're like, do I make the lunch? I don't know, I'm not really sure. You're off it. You're off. Yeah. So you got three East Coast guys and an Eastern Standard Time Zone guy who knows exactly what's going on. I'm always trying to like, you know what I'm saying?
This guy. But now we're all Los Angelinos and you know, tomorrow night we're taking Coop and a bunch of his friends to Clippers Kings and I'm already thinking, you know, I got to leave way early and how am I going to drive in a driving rain and I'm thinking to myself, what the hell happened to me? We've gotten some.
What happened to me? We've all gone south. I hate driving in the rain now. Like I hate it.
You know why? Because everyone else can't drive. Bingo.
I hate it. Bingo. Everyone else can't drive.
Or won't drive. It's not a us problem. It's a YP. It's a them. It's a them.
No, no, no, no. It's a their problem. Yeah. Which is no, but that's when it becomes an, uh, uh, uh, an our problem.
An MP. Right? Are we saying this right? Yeah. I didn't erase raining here.
It's kind of pouring pouring. I know. And we're going to get five feet of snow in the mountains. I know.
I know. So everybody greatly appreciate all your, all your, all your help. So here we are in our number three of this program today. Great chat with Tom Izzo and our number two, the Michigan state head coach who is doing such a great job of publicly grieving and bringing the East Lansing, Michigan, um, uh, community together.
Our number one, Brian Windhorst, he's a perfect guest. I'm like, let's get somebody to help us set the table for the second half of the NBA season or the last 20 games. Like it's really the last quarter of the NBA season. Right. Pretty much.
Oh yeah. I mean, look, Lakers have 23 games left. Everyone's in that 22 to 24 game left. It's just like a final home stretch push. You know, you look at the Western conference standings, like we said earlier, five games separate nine of the four seed, which is the Clippers and the 13th seed, which is the Lakers.
Crazy. And I want to see who's going to make that run in the Western conference. Well, somebody is going to make a run in the Western conference for again, five games separate team 13 in the Lakers and team four in the Clippers, five games. So somebody is going to make that run eager to see that who's going to make that run in the East. Can somebody make that run in the East?
What, what Windhorst also said in hour one is like, Hey, the math shows it's simple math. Only two teams can play for the conference championship. Meaning somebody from the bucks, Sixers and Celtics is going to get eliminated in the second round with tons of questions and who's going to be in that situation of musical chairs where the music stops. Rich, we hit on this yesterday on a new episode of the rich eyes and show basketball podcast, TJ and Adam, uh, get it up where you find your podcast and on our YouTube channel. Uh, and we hit on the exact same thing while the West is so wide open, the East is really just a three team race. Is it one of these three teams is going to play for the NBA championship.
Can I Cape for a team? Who, how he came from the Knicks. The Knicks have no shot for, of what, who on the Knicks can defend any of the big three players.
That's the problem. Mitchell Robinson is going to have to come back. He's already back at practice, which is why your current leader in the rich eyes and show fantasy basketball league picked them up and stashed them on injured reserve. He's you know, that's you.
He's yes, that's me. Um, and I, I understand. I just think Jalen Brunson is in a transformational moment.
How about them apples? I'm not saying it's going to happen. They're going to play a road playoff series too. Oh, so there is no team that could create a situation where two of the top three teams goes home after the second round. You don't think so.
I just don't really see it. Like Atlanta is a playoff team. They just fired their coach. Your Celtics were that team last year, weren't they?
With what? Coming out of nowhere and going all the way to the finals. Your season was over at one point. You wound up being that team, but yeah, but you stunk in the first half of the season. They stunk. That's what I'm saying. But it wasn't like they stunk and they were supposed to sink. At this point last year, excuse me, at this point last year, the Celtics were just three weeks into their run to the two seed after they're all, after all their players only talks, right?
Well, email really coached them up and you know, that's what I'm saying. So who cannot be this year? I just don't see it.
I just don't see it. I don't know if you, when Wendy said that about one of those three teams, you looked over at me and I was, you know, it's your Sixers, you know, it's going to be your Sixers. They're in that position. But again, you know, and I said, I think I do too, but I said this all last year. Remember heart, we got heart and I'm like, I don't know if there's enough time, enough games for this to truly merge. Now we've got a full season. Same thing. I think with Phoenix, rich, this team's only going to play together. What? 2320 games.
This full starting lineup. Is that going to be enough time for them to mesh? We don't know how much and figure things out. Yeah. So he will.
And that's the whole thing is I want to, I'm wondering if the league will take a look at, um, messing with their trade deadline to go sooner. Yeah. Right. Or move up all star. I don't know, man. All star break. I don't know because you know, make all these trades.
It's great. It even actually overtook the super bowl week for about two hours for, for, for a day. No, for a day.
If there was a 24 hour period where it went off the rails, Wednesday, Wednesday afternoon and night into Thursday was off the rails. But the whole, the whole business though is, is are you giving your teams enough time to get a run together? I mean, so, so that's for me, the stories of the second half is who's going to make the run.
Now here's, here's two more for you. Who's going to be openly tanking to get the best possible percentage in the lottery for Victor Wambayana. Who's that going to be?
Well, a few of these teams have really understood the assignment this year, Rich Houston and San Antonio, 14 and 45, 13 and 45 respectively, Charlotte and Detroit really understood the assignment. Let's take Jimmy in San, San Antonio right now. How you been Jimmy?
It's been a while. Line four, Mikey. Line four. What's up Jimmy? Oh, nice delay Del Tufo.
Line four. Oh, my computer's down bud. Standby. Mike has been freaking out and he's in his 20th straight minute of freaking out. We had power failures for a second. Two types of people in broadcasting when it comes to a power outage, one freaks out, the other one says, eh, it'll come back on.
And that's exactly what I said. And it came back on. Jimmy, what do you, what do you, what do you got here? What's up Jimmy? Okay. First of all, the Knicks ain't making it to the finals.
If you do, I'll fly out and sit behind your right shoulder in a bear costume doing some lines. Conference finals, I said, that's the team that can go on a run and hit the conference finals. Nope, not even conference finals.
What if, what if Brockman's fantasy player, RJ Barrett starts actually scoring 20, 30 points a night too, and they got a third man in. What about that? Nope, nope.
That's not happening because you're winning, but don't worry about it. Okay. All right. That's true. About the Spurs, sir.
Yes. We're about to hit our 15 game losing streak tonight, I believe. And then you can say hola to French water burger. He's coming to San Antonio.
We'll take Victor. But here's the thing is that what it's only a 15% chance like two other teams. The thing that the NBA has done is that the team with the worst record doesn't have the best odds. It's the three bottom teams all have a 14% chance. I thought it was 20% chance.
Nah, they changed it. Adam lied to me. That's a very, very rational way of putting it Jimmy. Yes, I agree. And one more thing about that, like you said earlier, Quinn Snyder, he's waiting to see where Victor's going. If he comes to San Antonio, pop and Quinn, they're just going to hand it off. Well, I mean, pop, I mean, don't you think pop would stick around for quite some time if Victor Webayana shows up there? I know I would. No, no, because he's not 21 and he can't drink wine.
So he's useless. Jimmy in San Antonio with an outstanding appearance here on the rich eyes and show Jimmy. Yeah, the top three, no, no, no. Three worst teams are 14%. The fourth worst team is 12 and a half. So who's three, who's, who's top three, who's bottom three right now?
Right now, bottom three would be Houston, San Antonio and Detroit with Charlotte in the four hole. And Chris, speaking of understanding or in this case, not understanding the assignment, I give props to the jazz. The beginning of the season, I think everyone had Victor heading to Utah. This team was going to tank. This team was going to lay down. These dudes were like, nah, they're 29 and 31 man. And they've fought all season.
So just respected. So who's five, who's six, who's seven, who might be the ones pulling the plug to try and get that four Orlando, Indiana. So Charlotte's four Orlando, five, uh, Indiana six Chicago. Ooh, well they're not going to tank. Pat Beverly says, you know, said on his podcast as much as his mission is to win, win the two games against the Lakers. Yeah. Unless somebody should take a photograph of the standings and show it to him on a court.
You know, here, there's a photo. These are the standings, Pat. Now, uh, here's another story for the second half of the season. Here's the third one who is still going to injury manage their players. How many non COVID illnesses are we going to see from top players and playoff possible teams? How many of those are we going to see back to back games? Who's going to sit there guy on the back end of one or the front end of another to injury manage the poor people of Cleveland, Ohio, who missed out on Luca, Steph, and Kawhi this year, right in a row, Cleveland's like, how many, you know, these kids, like, how about let's get a, let's get a three game package of tickets there, right?
Was that included in like, you know, you can get staff and Luca. Oh, I want this one back to backs. So sorry, Cleveland fans leave when this is not, I would say they probably didn't offer those three teams in one. You know, they tried to spread the good teams out, but if you're a fan of a team, you can go, yeah, let's go see him.
Let's go see him. I accept, you know what? They're being injury managed. At least Steph was being injury managed for something that he had just come back from the injury managed ones that drive me nuts are the ones like this guy is coming back from an ACL injury a year ago, suffered a year and a half ago.
How long do you think someone takes to rehab? I don't have a date certain, but no, you know, he's coming back from a knee injury and he's been playing dynamite. And you know what? I bet you these teams come up with the dates like back in October. How many come hell or high water?
You ain't playing on these days beyond this something. They sit down, the trainers sit down with the people who are in charge of, you know, monitoring sleep and, and caloric intake and the coaching staff, they all sit down front office. They have like a little zoom where they have a, they have a meeting and they see, yeah, you, you're not playing in Cleveland.
Luca, I think tweaked something the night before. And I just know this because I was in Cleveland for the Ravens and the, and the Browns game. And I just saw all of these, you know, Cavs fans. There's so, you know, just you're going to the game that I, Oh yeah, no, Luca, great. God bless Anthony Edwards.
Maybe it's cause he's 21 and he's just, you know, doesn't, doesn't know any better or, you know, you know, kids rebound quick from a tweak here or whatever there. This is what Anthony Edwards had to say over all star weekend about this. If there's anything I could change about the league to make it better, probably just all the guys sit and resting. That's the only thing I probably don't like 80% said you got to play. I don't, I don't like all the sitting, missing games and stuff like these people, these people might have enough money to come to one game and I'm saying, and that might be the game they come to and then you sitting out and I'm saying, so I take pride in trying to play every game. Cause I don't know, it might be one fan that has never seen me play and I'm trying to play.
So I don't, that's the only thing I don't like. Guys just sitting out. That's our guy. So let's check on this Timberwolves schedule. Rest of the way.
Okay. They're coming to Los Angeles next week. You know, he's going to play there. Uh, Sacramento, Saturday, March 4th.
Why am I bringing that up? Back end of a back to back Sacramento fans who love Anthony Edwards. Guess who's going to play. Get your tickets out there. How about this one at Toronto back end of a back to back. They're at Chicago and then they're at Toronto. Guess what? Toronto Raptor fans feeling you. You're going to see Anthony Edwards. Obviously the guy gets seriously hurt.
That's it. They got a back to back where one of the back to backs is at home. So the front end at San Antonio, cause they're not sitting him in front of the home fence at San Antonio, Saturday, April 8th. Guess what? You know what I might do next year's fantasy? I might find like, let's get a list of guys who feel this way about Anthony Edwards. I'll draft them all.
I guarantee you're not going to have the top pick, so you're not going to have. Okay. We'll discuss that for another day. But you see what I'm saying? Like again, tomorrow night for Cooper's 12th birthday, Susan and I are taking some of his buddies from his basketball team, which is playing its final playoff game today. Oh, he is. He's listening to his mom.
He's lowering his shoulder. He's getting into the lane now, but be that as it may, I got the tickets, right? And then I swear to you a day later, I'm like, Oh no, are the Clippers starting the second half of the season with back to backs? Cause I knew if they did, then I just bought tickets to a game where Kawhi and Paul George would not play because they have not been playing consistently on the back portions of back to backs all season long.
I literally had that stomach drop moment. And then I thankfully looked at the schedule and saw that Friday night's game is the first game after a nine game layoff respite as the entirely got injury managed and, uh, or an eight day for them. Cause they played a week ago tonight in the last game of the first half, I just, Hey, it's a problem. It's a problem. And you know, it's, it's a tough fix because so many teams are like a sorry, uh, paying customer. But back in October, we sat down as a team and came up with a plan.
And Anthony Edwards is one of those rare players. Like, I don't care about your plan. I'm playing every game. So there's that rich there a few years ago, you were, uh, this is before I was on the show. I think I was still at LA BC. I was doing, you were being injury managed by a direct TV. I was producing the app for the show at the time, but you had brought up the fact that you didn't like players sitting out. And I took it from a point of view as a clipper fan. There was one game in particular LeBron sat out that you spoke on as a clipper fan. I was glad LeBron missed that game because the Clippers won that game. And that actually got us home court in the playoffs that year against the jazz.
Now the Clippers lost in the playoffs. But for me as a fan, I was like, well, I'm glad he's not playing because we need to win this game. And it would be a lot harder if he had not sat out. So I'm sure there had to be some fans, like thinking like me, like, yo, we got a better chance to win this game. That's pretty necessary when this superstar was at last year or two years ago, where the Clippers basically sat out players in the last couple of games of the season and willingly took a series on the road.
Was that two years ago? And part of that was to avoid, avoid somebody that was the two. So they didn't want to play somebody is that like, they look down the road, like we'll win one series on the road to avoid playing this red hot team.
Right. Didn't they like look at the standings and where teams were landing. I'm trying to remember that it was just the Clippers either.
I think it was like a couple of teams. There's people who are like so psyched, anybody that injury manages a player in their one shot in that town is undoubtedly depressing young fans. And when I say depressing, I mean two ways. One you're depressing their love for the sport and two you're like legitimately emotionally depressing that job.
Now, I would hope it is that I mean, how many kids were like, we're psyched to see Steph Curry and Steph is not, you know, he's what he gets it. He understands that, but he was legitimately coming back, I guess, from an injury had just suffered. But somebody's like, Hey, you know, I, I, I sat out last year and we're now in months four of the season. I'm not playing back to back. And the one fix of it is don't schedule people back to the back.
That's it eight four four two oh four rich number to dial here on the rich eyes and show back with your phone calls and so much more in a moment. Men do you get distracted during the day thinking about your underarms sweating, itching or emitting an odor? Do those thoughts keep you from showing care when it counts new and improved dove men plus care antiperspirant with 72 hours sweat, no to protection and one quarter moisturizing cream helps you forget about your underarms so you can be present for the moments that matter.
Don't let underarm insecurities keep you at arm's distance from the ones you care about by new and improved dove men plus care antiperspirant wherever personal care products are sold. For decades, Rolling Stone has set the bar for entertainment publications today, Rolling Stone music now takes over in podcast form scissor. You seem like a person with a pretty high level of anxiety, but you also seem fearless artistically. I feel like ideas have more power than identity like the excitement overrides insecurity.
That is the only way that I'm ever able to accomplish anything. Rolling Stone music now wherever you listen. Reed's got that menu in front of him, you know, calling the plays. The enemy helps install the offense. It's called the offensive coordinator in Kansas City. And now the Washington commanders have hired him. And it's a seemingly one would think, just on its first blush, a lateral move for a guy that has been overlooked for head coaching jobs multiple years in a row despite being part of a championship team conference wise and then a couple of occasions league wide. Normally those coaches get poached. It's an HC, but it's not a lateral move because he's calling plays unlike Kansas City. He's also being called the assistant head coach. So he was asked about that title and what it meant, which is just another way of saying, you know, hey, you're not an HC in the NFL.
And that's what he had to say. Well, I think it's very important for a number of reasons. And the beauty of it is me and coach Rivera will work through that. At the end of the day, Eric Bienemy is a ball coach. At the end of the day, Eric Bienemy wants to know the people you work with. Eric Bienemy wants to make sure that these guys understand that, you know, we don't learn to put consistent behavior on tape. All right. But also understanding that when we're playing for each other and doing things for the greater good of the organization, also seeing the big picture that this game ain't that hard.
It can be a whole lot of fun, but it's going to be fun when you're making the necessary sacrifices to make each other better. I did not know. Here's a few things I knew about Eric Bienemy. Total hard ass. You speak to anybody.
They will tell you that this guy is a hard ass and there are no sacred cows. I remember actually NFL game day morning, we did a piece on the Vikings offense. There was a feature on the Vikings offense back when Adrian Peterson was what one would call the best player in football, most valuable player. And Bienemy was the running backs coach riding him like he was a first year player. And I remember Marshall Fox sitting in the commercial break and he was, he went like this with Bienemy.
He goes, that's a hard ass coach. One thing I did not know about Eric Bienemy. He's a third person guy. I did not know that.
I didn't see that coming. He's a third person guy. All right. He was point blank asked about, um, head coach and what, why, why aren't you a head coach?
That's what he had to say. Right now I'm the offensive coordinator of the Washington commanders. Okay. Being a head coach, that's something if that's to happen, it'll take care of itself. We've had a great deal of success.
We've we've won what five straight AFC championship games, uh, three out of four Super Bowls, uh, two out of those. So it hasn't happened. It's not anything that's going to impact me moving forward. Cause the only thing I need to concern, be concerned with, it's what's important today.
Today. I gotta be the best person that I can be. I gotta be the best coach that I can be. And on top of that, I got to get these guys in this building to learn to trust me, to get to know me, but also understanding what the term accountability means. And so I have to be accountable to these men. All right. So all that stuff about being a head coach, we can talk about that next year. Sometime right now I'm focused on the job at hand. Okay. By the way, those were, uh, as we say in the radio and television business hits, when you heard the sound drop out, I came from the feed from the team actually at any rate.
Um, look, I don't have the answer. I know people say it's because of the color of his skin that he doesn't have a new head coaching job in the NFL. Um, I, I, I, I do not know the answer as to why he's, uh, in Washington calling plays when, you know, Doug Peterson and Matt Nagy didn't call plays in Kansas city or under Reed and they got gigs. He's got a heck of an offense that he can co coordinate though. That's for sure. That kid, Brian Robinson was terrific. McLaurin McLaurin is a top Gibson.
McLaurin is a top 10 receiver in the NFL. It comes down to how he's going to coach up Sam Howell who looks like it's going to be the guy or the commander's going in some sort of a way with a free agent. Are they going to just go ahead and see what they have in Sam Howell? Do you think the enemy would, the enemy would take the job if he's going to have to coordinate for a second year player in his first year of being a quarterback going through the ups and the downs with this kid in the NFC East where the defending NFC chance resigned who's going to go there with two other teams, with two other teams starting 40 million dollar a year quarterbacks and Dak and Daniel Jones. Are they silently in on Derek Carr?
Is that a Jimmy G spot? Tannehill gets released. The Washington commanders are a sneaky quarterback carousel team. Don't forget last year they knocked on Green Bay's door. They knocked on Seattle's door. They knocked on a ton of doors last year before they're like okay we'll answer the knock from Indianapolis.
And not to mention they might have new ownership at the start of next year. Oh I don't think so. No?
I would stun me. I know that they put out the press conference, I mean the press release that Bank of America was looking into the sale of the team and of course people were all wondering like do they have two franchises because it says Bofa up on the headline. I'm just saying that's not a topic that has gone away. I got to put my ear to the ground a little bit more on that one. Could they be looking?
Because they were looking last year. Your buddy from the Bert Kreischer event was there right? Did you hit that subject with the Heineke or no? I did not. Heineke had great sneakers on.
We were talking about the sneaker. You didn't talk to him at all about his future with the Washington Command? We had a couple Bud Lights with him. We were drinking at the half time.
That's exactly what you need to ask him. And the one thing that we particularly noticed when we were shirtless is that we look exactly the same. You and Heineke? Yeah. I have a little more body hair than he does. He has a little more ink than me.
But if we had no heads, same body. I wish you had used this real estate and time in front of him for another reason. Hey, were you playing next year? Yeah.
Yeah, I don't know. That was the time, Rich. That absolutely is exactly the time. Shirts off, beers open, let's go.
Drinking Bud Light and laughing at Bert Kreischer. That's it. And we told Gabe Davis that we loved him.
He was all on our fantasy team. Okay. Yeah, we did the chocolate over there.
That was pretty much it. Good job, guys. Did I mention we were drinking? Good job, guys.
Here's another subject matter I want to hit. As you know, we have been all over the Justin Fields post-season saga, we called it. Brockman, you made it an overreaction Monday, the day after the season. And then... And I took it from Bears fans. And then I started talking about it, that the Bears are going to make it seem, they're going to have to make it seem that they're interested in Bryce Young or CJ Stroud because that's the way you extract the most for the first overall pick, that the Bears are going to have decisions to make. Do they love Jalen Carter? Do they love Will Anderson so much that they're just going to say, we're taking him? Or do you make it seem because they don't get, say, enough of an offer for the first overall pick that they like? Or do they make it seem to get the most for the first overall pick that they're the ones interested in Bryce Young and CJ Stroud? And if there's any team sitting there at 8, 10, anywhere, you know, if you're 2 or 4 in Houston and you're sitting there in love with Bryce Young or CJ Stroud, one over the other, and you can't run the risk of the Bears taking one over the other, you got to move up to one to get the guy you want. Or the Colts, like you can't sit there and think that, oh, nobody's going to come and trade with the Cardinals. And I will just sit there at 4 because the Bears will take someone on defense and the Cardinals will take someone on defense or take an offensive lineman or who knows. And I'll just sit there and I'll take whoever the Texans don't take it to. I love Young and Stroud just as much. Or you love Will Levis and you'll just sit there at 4 and take him.
Run that little okey-doke. Or do you love the guy so much, I'll just flip the Bears what they need. Because that's the way the Bears get what they need is to make it look like it's not Justin Fields' gig anymore. Or do they just find that they love Bryce Young and CJ Stroud when they meet him next week in person enough to actually get one more look-see at them as they're running this gambit to try and get people to trade with them and meet them in person again and work them out. They don't have to go to their pro days.
You can just see tape anyway. Or do you go to their pro days and really lay it on thick and then at some point during the process do fall for one of these guys and trade Justin Fields. When would that moment take place? When would they trade away the first overall pick to somebody who loves these guys? When would that happen?
That's the question now that I'm gonna address and try and front load for you. I'm gonna peg it the same time that the Niners went ahead and grabbed the third overall pick. It's gonna happen early, not late. When was that?
That was during Zach Wilson's pro day. So you're talking about what late March, right? Something along those lines? When they pull the trigger on that?
March 26th. That's what I'm talking about. So Justin Fields has got another what four or five weeks of white knuckle because I don't think this trade's gonna get done. I mean somebody's gonna fall in love with one of these guys for it to happen.
They're gonna fall in love with them and say screw it, we're doing it now. Do you remember the when the I think the Rams traded up for the first overall pick and we're like is it Gough or Wentz? They did that early too. If my memory serves they did that early too and they also if I'm not mistaken to Washington trade for RG3 that happened early too. Didn't happen like week of draft.
No I'm telling you week of draft that's gonna get I think that'll be intense still late rumors better go get them but by that point in time I think everything's gonna be settled. Actually the Rams trade was a little late. It was April 14th. Okay there we go.
It was about two weeks before the draft. Okay. In 2016.
So I guess those are our fixed points then. Yeah. Late March, early to mid April. That's it. That's when this thing's gonna either rubber meat road but man is this drum gonna get pounded next week. Pounded next week. Cuz Ryan Polis cannot, general manager of the Bears, cannot show up at that podium next week and go yeah we love Justin Fields. Right. So we're looking at defensive players only here this week. That ain't happening.
It's not gonna happen. He will say he loves Justin Fields but he will give some form of you know our minds are wide open. We're taking a look at everybody here. I spoke to Justin. We love him but they'll be they'll be the door will be left slightly ajar. That's common.
Love front loading stuff for you. Have we heard anything about quarterbacks throwing at the combine? Have we heard any of that yet?
I have not. I can get I can send a couple of texts but is there anybody who's so you know far and away first overall pick that they're not gonna go out there and throw it? Yeah Bryce Young. I don't think he's far and away first overall.
He's gonna be the first quarterback taken so. I don't think you could say that. Really?
Okay. I don't think you could say that. I mean everyone's talking about.
Yeah brother. How he's. Don't forget when we left the combine a few years ago Saquon was absolutely the first overall pick coming out of the draft. Running back was absolutely going to Cleveland. He was going.
Oh but he still went what third? It changes. Let me just tell you this. Right now everyone's talking about Bryce Young as like the next Mahomes if he was only taller right?
Or thicker. Yeah. Right like that's what they're talking about. No question.
C.J. Stroud is gonna make a run. Well they're gonna see this guy. Oh yeah his pro day this.
Oh yeah did you not know that? Take a look at everyone Bryce Young's a little too small. I'm telling you he will make a run and then suddenly somebody's mock draft will change it and somebody's top five quarterbacks list is gonna change.
It's coming. C.J. Stroud's making a run. Yeah don't sleep on Anthony Richards. Oh don't forget. Oh yeah don't forget about these guys or Will Levis might make a little run too. You know that'll be a higher register run like that kid from Kentucky. You know? He's kind of gone like a Josh Allen build.
Like that's coming. I've been around this block folks. It's great.

Monster.com. Right here on the program. Gene in Florida. Let's take your phone call. What's up Gene?
Right here on the Rich Eisen Show. Hey Rich. How you doing? I'm hanging out.
What's going on? I'm a 54 year old guy and I just wanted to see if you get this. Every time you mention that cocaine bear I think of Dan Haggerty. I don't know if you get that joke or... No, I remember Dan Haggerty was out there. Wasn't he... He was Grisly Adams. He was Grizzly Adams, wasn't he? With his big beards.
And he got arrested for cocaine. Ah. Alright.
Was unfamiliar with that part of Dan Haggerty's resume but thank you for pointing that out. Well anyways, I'm a big Ravens fan. I've called him before. I'm a daily listener. I actually live in Florida. I'm right outside of Orlando, which you touched on what happened there yesterday.
Yes sir. Let me shout out and give my love to those people. And I also wanted to mention that I lived 30 years of my life in Bangor, Maine. So shout out to Chris. Shout out 207. What's that? You shouted out your 207.
What's on your mind Gene? Yes, just being from Baltimore, you guys mentioned yesterday about Daniel Jones' work. And now that Lamar Jackson wants his contract, he seems to be up high on the food chain as far as quarterbacks are concerned. And you know, they've won the same amount of the playoff schemes.
Yes. And Lamar's had a lot more of an opportunity to do so. So I just don't understand why everybody thinks Lamar Jackson's worse so much more than say Daniel Jones. And I actually think that Lamar's going to end up in New York.
I just don't see, look, again thanks for the call Gene and appreciate your two cents. As you know as a Ravens fan, he's a difference maker in a way that Daniel Jones has rarely known. I mean, Lamar Jackson won an entire season's MVP for a reason. He was a difference maker from start to finish, from his five touchdown game that year in Miami to start the season to all the way to the end. Jones has only shown flashes of that. And then unfortunately for the Vikings it flashed on the wrong day this year for him. And he's a runner and he's a thrower like Lamar as well, I would say.
He's fast, but he's no Lamar in terms of difference making for his organization and being an MVP for an entire year. I would just counsel against the Jets. Why would they trade multiple draft choices? First rounders too. Because again, the Ravens are going to franchise tag him if they don't come up with a long-term deal and that's coming next week at the Combine as well. News will be a poppin' next week because general managers and coaches are all there, most of them, and most of them speak. And when Harbaugh speaks, will the percentage of Lamar staying in Baltimore be less than 200%? Which is the last percentage we heard out of John Harbaugh's mouth about Lamar being the starter there. Will the general manager Eric DaCosta talk about, we're talking right now and we'll leave it at that. And will there be another full-throated, we love Lamar, can't win a world without him.
That's coming next week. And so when they place the franchise tag upon him, or as we say in the business, when somebody does not wish to have it placed upon him, it's slapped on them. When they slap the franchise tag on Lamar Jackson, if I'm Baltimore, I put the franchise tag on the non-exclusive. I put them in the non-exclusive. I put them on that because you can let him then, hey, if you don't take our offer, then go ahead.
We love you so much. We'll let you seek out one that you like. But you have to seek it out with a team that's got two first rounders in the next two drafts, 2023 and 2024, because if we do decide to let you go, and we're willing to love you so much that you go see the market out there, Lamar, you go seek it out. You go find a team that's got the next two first round draft choices, that's willing to have a conversation with you. And if that's a contract that's too rich for our blood, no offense, it's just a business decision by you and us, you can go and we'll take the two first round selections. Would you as a team do that with a guy who has not finished the last two seasons? That is a very difficult position for somebody who's hitting that market on a non-exclusive tag. That's going to be a tough one. That's going to be a tough one for someone to swallow. Two straight years didn't finish.
DNF. So I'm just saying, if I am the Jets, why would you do that when Derek Carr is sitting there and he's a different quarterback? I know he's not, he's not a former MVP. He isn't a run and he's not a dual threat. But the one thing that he has that Lamar doesn't have is he doesn't come with the tag that requires you force, you cough up two first rounders. Would you do that and pay him a contract that he wants? As much as I love the guy and I love what I've seen out of him, what set off my spidey sense about what I heard in Baltimore, how the season finished, I'm not doing that.
I am not doing that. And what are the Jets waiting for? I don't know. Rogers? Now that he's out of the dark in Oregon? Give up assets and get him.
Assets you suddenly now don't have for him this year or next year. I don't know. I have no idea if the owner of the New York Jets is putting his thumb on the scale. You know? I do not know.
Another thing. Hey, Robert Salas at the podium next week. Joe Douglas next week. Let's roll. Do the Jets have a new quarterback by this time next week?
I don't think so. But man, it's gonna be on next week. Tomorrow's show, Taylor Twelman will be here to talk about the upcoming MLS season. Andrew Brank, perfect guy. I guess he's just come out of his darkness therapy. And Brandon Sclenner who plays Spencer Dutton in 1923. Susie will be here to intercept me when he arrives.
That's on Friday. We'll finish up the Roku Channel show in a moment. Also, just everything going on in my personal life. Like I want to get on this mic and be like, this is what I've been dealing with for 14 months. Give them Lala wherever you listen.
