ESPN College Basketball Analyst Andrea Carter. Illinois head coach Brad Underwood. Coming up. Director Antoine Fouqua. And now, it's Rich Eisen.

On the air here on Disney Plus, the ESPN app, ESPN Radio, SiriusXM Channel 80. Antoine Fuqua is in our green room.

So excited to have him back here on this program. I believe he. He was here previously for one of the Equalizer films that he was doing with Denzel. Does he know Denzel?

So he's going to be joining us in advance of his new film, Michael, which is about Michael Jackson, his rise to prominence. Um all the way through to his uh life and career in 1988. Um and um Jafar Jackson, the kid who or the noob I shouldn't say kids. The actor who plays Michael. Is a revelation.

My goodness. And you could see commercials for that film everywhere. It's in theaters near you later on this coming up next month in April. And I believe this is Antoine's first interview on shows like this for the film.

So we're honored that he will He will be here shortly out here for you to hopefully enjoy the conversation. That's up to me, I guess, is to ask him the right questions. We've been talking nonstop about the UConn Duke game. I gave my two cents on it. Jay Billis joined in hour number one.

Brad Underwood, the head coach of Illinois, joined us in hour two. I asked him, you know, you're scouting. You're wondering who your next opponent is going to be. It's either UConn or Duke. How did you take in that game?

He said he didn't see the end of it. That he was zooming doing Zoom interviews. That's crazy. Um So, if you missed any of that conversation, youtube.com/slash Rich Eisen Show is our YouTube channel. And also, there's our podcast version of the show.

There's our Disney Plus page. As soon as this show's over, you can watch all three hours and whenever you want. And we discussed earlier about How it happened, how it all went down. One thing we haven't discussed. That I kind of want to hit before we get to overreaction Monday on a Monday.

Um What? All of the calls, you see the calls coming in: the UConn call, the Duke call, the CBS call, you see. you know, the reaction of Raftery and and uh Grand Hill.

Sort of knocked off their equilibrium sitting down. Yeah, big time. The Duke basketball call, I believe, the announcer for Duke. Was talking about how one of the players for UConn was on the court. That should be a technical.

Which was a nice Nice try. But some of the video that you see of this. Moment in the aftermath, there was a technical foul that could have been called. On Yukon. And I don't know, Dan Hurley went up to an official who was making his way to the scorers table, I believe, to check on the time.

Is you know they added a tenth of a second. On to it. I don't know what it was. If it was playful, it looked like it was playful. But he made contact with an official.

Did you see this? No. Where he goes up, the official's walking over and Hurley stands in front of him. And basically Puts his forehead onto the forehead of the referee and just like moves his head around playfully. You know?

And walked away. What a beautiful psycho. And You know, if the official didn't take it playfully or what have you. They could have easily teed up. Dan Hurley, and today's conversation would be about his inability.

To comport himself. As opposed to everything else that we are rightfully talking about, which is his. Incredible. ability to recruit and coach up. and dial things up.

and let things play out. and have his guys situationally brilliant. All of that stuff. By the way. I couldn't believe this.

He's 125 and 27. That's his record since. becoming coach of UConn. But do you see this moment that I'm talking about? Yeah, this is kind of weird.

He's not like smiling. He's not really kind of like a musician. I think it's cheeky. That's the way I look at it. He just kind of is.

And you might know the official for a long time and, you know. And they go way back, and so this official knows that he's just having fun with an incredible moment that just happened. But he does make contact. Yeah, and he almost like cuts off the ref while he's walking to the scores booth and kind of like gives him one of these and kind of walks off. It's really bizarre.

It is bizarre. It's similar to. Remember, didn't he push one of his players to get into a spot on the middle of the game, right? Yeah. I think Sue sent all of us a reel from 60 Minutes talking about Hurley's interesting practice.

Uh regimen? But he has with his players. It's a little bit off the wall, but that's part of them. That's part of them, man. I thought could you imagine if they had teed him up?

Yeah. Making contact. I could have, but no, I could have. You can't. I mean, you say that, but.

You know? I thought the funniest thing was when he was He got ready to do his postgame interview. The first thing he says is Someone stole my pin. I collect all my pins. Like, he was so concerned.

I guess he had a final failure. Or to get knocked. And she was like, Well, I think she works. Yeah, she was like, We'll get you another pin.

Well, I know you're superstitious. Yeah, you know. But he was really an interesting cat man. Yeah. But you know what he does?

He cuts down nets. Google 'em. They're very successful, man. Google him. He cuts down nets.

And he's got that's why I'm saying. This whole business, and it's going to be a narrative, and it's going to build, and then it'll rebound in the other direction. It will. And I don't know if you're you check on a Vegas line and that sort of thing, too. Of?

But of this whole business of Arizona, the Michigan Arizona winner is the winner of this tournament. I've literally not seen that. Oh, it's the first thing I'm hearing.

Well, maybe you're on a different Twitter than me, but I haven't seen anyone. I'm not on Twitter at all, as you know. Different thread than I am.

So Yeah, I mean, no, it's just like, hey, Michigan versus Arizona, the two wagons are playing each other and Whoever wins that one is just going to roll over whoever comes out of Yukon, Illinois. Give me a break. Give me a break. Yeah, the odds are saying, you know, kind of the winner of that game wins. Exactly.

I'm sure the odds are saying that, and you're going to be hearing that. You're going to see the topic bars, all that sort of thing. It's nonsense. Listen, you could sit here and say Illinois is a three seed that doesn't belong or. Couldn't expect them or they were unexpected.

All of that business. You know, I was hearing From friends of mine, hey, how lucky are we that we got Iowa State out knocked out? Tennessee's a sixth seed. I'm like, hey. You know who was a sixth seed in the 1989 tournament?

Michigan. Hmm. Michigan just dispatched Tennessee. with the biggest Regional final win since Michigan. Whipped Virginia by 37 in 1989.

Now, you don't see a lot of 30-point games in the region. You don't. I understand that. I understand that. But I don't care about any more seating or anything else.

And certainly when you're talking about UConn. And Dan Hurley and Cariban and the rest of these guys. Who are probably feeling quite invincible right now, and no doubt Hurley will utilize. The nobody believes in us. He'll play that card.

He'll play that at 52. Times in one deck. Yeah, tell Mr. Indiana basketball. Nice shot, kid.

But here comes Michigan, here comes Arizona, get out of here with that. Come on now. I don't want to hear it, but I'll be hearing it for the next four days, five days. I just don't know how anyone can poo-poo UConn when they've been now the three of the last four final fours, and they got a team that has a lot of seniors and juniors in the mix.

So, how are you all of a sudden? Like, that's what I'm saying. That doesn't make sense to me. How are you ready for it? You'll see it.

Imagine if he'd taken the Lakers' job. Uh-huh. Yukon wouldn't be in three of the last I don't know. Probably not. Um Let's do it.

It's Overreaction Monday. Hit it. That was terrible. That was crap. That was garbage.

That sucks. Overreaction Monday. On a Monday. We're actually doing it on the day itself. Right?

How about that? Look at us. We're not observing. How's it going? You guys good?

Great. I mean, yeah, you know.

Sorry, TJ. I know you're doing good. It's all right. I'll be good. I'm just gonna do some football and a little hodgepodge.

The way these are going these days? Sure. Uh Thinking about this, guys, Tom said this on Friday, and I don't know if you guys really picked up on it. Tommy Pete? Kirk Cousins is still out there.

Yes. The Steelers should break up with Rogers. Sign Kirk Cousins. Hmm. Breaking up is hard to do.

That's what they say. It's not you, it's me. It's not you, it's me. You know what I mean?

Someone's gonna pull that out with Rogers. It's not you, it's me. I think they probably should. Why? What's the big deal?

Girl's younger. His arm looked a little livelier last year. I don't know. Did it? Mm.

The one thing I didn't think that Rogers arm um I didn't think it was Rogers' arm. What is it? There was nothing. Actually, Rogers played very well. Yeah, you're right.

One guy is seemingly, though, ready to go. And one guy you can get now and start moving. What's the other guy? Nobody's coming in yet. You can't, there's no rush.

There's no rush. We could be throwing. We could be working out. We could be doing stuff. Would you rather, if you're McCarthy, have a guy who you've known for 20 years.

and knows your system as well as it does as he does. who knows the team as well as he does because he was there last year. and knows the building and the organization, or you want to start from scratch. Aren't they kinda the same guy? No.

They're not. And you know that too. Really? Yeah, you know that too. Come on.

I don't know. As you know, I'm doing my power rankings on Wednesday of the 10 best players of the NFL network era. as the NFL networks error being owned by the NFL. is over Tuesday night. I'm thinking of putting Rodgers on that list.

Mm, interesting. Rogers' entire career has been with the NFL Network's existence. TJ, we should come up with our own list and see if it matches Rich.

Okay. This is an overreaction.

Alright, what else? You know, I don't really care what Andrew Berry says or the Browns say. We are officially on Miles Garrett Trade Watch.

Okay. Oh, that's all. That's it. That's it? That's it.

Yeah. I thought you were going somewhere. No, no, no. This is it. He can hire register and he can, you know, say all this other crap, he's brown for life.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Until he's not. You know what that all sounded like? I'm not going to be the Alabama head coach. And guess who was the Alabama head coach?

A week later, he's the Calend DeVoer of General Managing? Is it what you're saying? Nick Saban. Oh, I see. Saban was the Dolphins coach talking.

I'm not going to Alabama, and then he did. This guy's getting traded. Get ready.

Well, he called him a career brown. which is again one way of saying that I'm not trading him, but also of saying, well, I'm not lying. He's been with us his entire career. That's the truth. You know?

That's why I said it sounded like he flipped his football card. Definition of is. I don't think this is an overaction either. We're on trade watch. I don't know if that means anything's gonna happen.

Well, we have to have some type of watch to make it even more interesting. Three ones, right? The maximum number of ones you could get for him. It's not three ones, two and a second. Like two for sure, obviously.

Two for sure. Yeah, one thing's for certain. Who's a starter? Two things for sure. And a player, maybe?

As well. Two ones, a two, and a player? I'd be like, three and a player? Yeah, I would want to get all of that. Man, you better trade him.

Send him to Definitely. Forget a different conference, like a different planet. Trade him to the UFL. Trade him to the UFL. You know?

I wouldn't want to see him again. What, like 12 guys? Yeah, sure. Like a whole roster? Yeah.

The Jupiter, the Jupiter Giants, trade them to the TGF. And free tickets to any rock movie ever. Future rock films. They should trade him to the WWE and have him WrestleMania. Whatever you could do to get him out of the, get, get, get league, get NFL compensation, but send him to a different yeah, yeah, yeah.

So who's going to be a good person? When we trade like Seth, Braun Breaker. To get Miles Garrett, you're going to have they're going to want someone young. They're going to want like Jabon Evans because he's young.

Okay. And then they're going to need, they're probably going to try to get Roman Reigns. You need someone to sell tickets. Yeah, so, and then maybe Cody Rhodes. Cody Roman and Javon Evans.

This is all viable. This is pot in the Street Fighter movie. Viable content. I'm on watch, that's for sure. Would the Yankees give up Aaron Judge?

I don't know, I don't want to do that. That's great. Maybe. What else Chris? You know, I'm gonna get the hype trade going for these guys.

Okay. I think that Caleb's going to be Up there for MVP, and the Bears are going to have the highest scoring offense in the world. The Bears. You got Khalif Raymond saying, I want to leave the line who has traditionally been one of the best offenses. I know, I'm seeing that too.

And says, No, I want to go to the Bears play with Ben Johnson. This is a great last Monday of March topic right now. That's going to set the league on fire this year. It's still Chicago, where you know. What does that mean?

Wow, that was so dismissive. No, no, no, no, where it could be 10 degrees. There's no offense. That's what I'm saying. There's a reason why the bears have been struggling to find like...

You know, 1A wide receivers who can have 1,500, 1,600-yard seasons, Chris. It's not because the Bears that too. Put it all together and those issues are gone, my father. Dude, that's part of the reason why, if I'm the Bears and I could build something indoors. If I could build something indoors and keep it on the spot where it currently is in Chicago, sold.

Sold. And then this is the perfect coach a million times over, or the perfect quarterback a million times over. I'm not saying it's because it's Chicago. It doesn't happen. It hasn't happened in Chicago for a reason because it gets friggin' cold there, man.

You think Indiana will give him a doom? Indiana will give them whatever they want. You know, so I'll just call that an overreaction for that alone. It's just. You know, can they get 60, 70 degree weather for most of their home games?

Can we get that? Let's front load the home game. It does get barely cold and shy. That's what I'm saying, which means 30, 40 point games usually don't happen. Like that.

What else, Chris? All right, a couple hoops ones, and then we'll get out of here. Why would I ever slag on Chicago? It's one of my favorite cities in the United States. I was really saying.

I love Chicago. No, come on now. Waddle and Sylvie will never have me back on. And the Wiener Circle would curse me out.

Well, they do that anyway. I'm watching. You and Adams boys kind of blow it yesterday, right? And it got me thinking about last year, and it got me thinking about there's no overreaction possible here for Duke since coach Kaylet. Oh, this is great.

John Shire should be on the hot seat. Like, what are we doing? All right, now that's stupid. This guy can't. I mean, come on.

Did you see the list of all the guys? I know. Everybody's making that. I know. Everybody's talking about it.

The last title. Why is it his fault? He's won three Big Ten champions. Here's why it's his fault. Last year, they had the most talented team.

They have the one and two in rookie of the year in the NBA. I know that, yes. Don't even make the title game, lose in the final four. Yeah, they lost a completely new roster. Yeah, yeah.

Number one team, number one seed going in the tournament. They look great this year. Below a 19-point game. Didn't look good really in any of their tournament games. One common denominator: hot seat.

The head coach. Get out of here. Seats hot. He should stay there because I'm sick and tired of everybody firing. Duke should call Jay Wright.

Everybody's cooked. He's not going anywhere. Please give me a break. You don't think North Carolina's already attempted to do that? I just don't.

Two things. He doesn't deserve this. That's number one. Number two, I don't need another school trying to poach. Dusty May.

Okay. I don't need it. Better gig? Better gig my ass. Yeah, I said that.

Okay. Give me a break. What's a better gig than in the Big Ten right now, being the king of the Big Ten right now? We might not be in a week. And Michigan having 30 years of swag, and you get the right mix.

You're going to be beating people off with a stick trying to get on this program. Going to North Carolina? Get out of here. Okay, whatever. It's not?

Who played it in North Carolina? I don't know. I don't know. Walker. I don't know.

This is number 23 that I only know about, who is in the building with the other, the 23 you're referring to right now. Here you go, TJ. You cut down a net there yesterday. You're going to like this one, TJ. Yaxel Lenderboard.

Let's go. What else? Michigan, Arizona is the de facto national championship game. Like, what are we talking about? Have you had this thing all queued up this entire show, or you just made this up?

No, I had it written last night. I told you, TJ. I mean, it's absurd. Michigan, just look at the odds, right? Michigan and Arizona are both plus 150.

So what? Then it jumps up to 500 Illinois, plus 650 Connecticut. Like, everyone's expecting the win of this game to cut their nuts down. I remember Jay Billis said, 1993. What is he?

Buy Slamma Jama. What does he know? Takes care of Louisville in the de facto national championship game, and then suddenly Jim Bolvano's looking for somebody to hug. That's true. Give me a break.

All right. I don't want to hear it. It's absurd. And I'm not even... I I'm not one of these types of fans that's saying, oh, good luck, Arizona.

Hmm. I see a wagon. That's how we led the show the other day. Get it. Big 10 strong, but Arizona's a wagon.

My team's looking like a wagon right now, too. Come on now. That's nuts. Because Michigan And or Arizona could easily lose to Illinois and/or Yukon. One thing that Michigan has not had to do in this tournament, which is crazy chock full of Big Ten teams, is face another Big Ten team.

They have not done that yet.

So You got any more? Yeah, so we can bring out our director. Yeah, one for 14. Eight strikeouts. Bobochette is the worst Mets free agent signing this century.

I think that's accurate. You want to chime in on that? Already booed?

Sorry, theory. He's already been booed. He's getting booed at home. And he said he's surprised it hasn't happened sooner. A whiff of Beltram.

But we I like that cologne.

Well, I hate that cologne. We know who Bobachet is. He's going to be all right. That's the thing I hate about baseball, right? What do you hate about baseball?

Three games into the season. I'm reading teams on Twitter and threads just all of a sudden ready to just torch everything. It's three. Games, like, what are we talking about? It's New York Met Fans.

Yeah, Met Fans. It's Met Fans. Go. They demand, you know. They demand some standard of play for their Whoopee pies.

Whoopi! Whoopi! By the way, I don't even know who would be the worst Mets signing this. I know, you just threw that out there. Look at this.

Mr. Mets so happy. We are 2-1. I know. You had a walk-off win.

It could have easily been 1-2 against the Pirates this weekend. It could have been 0-3. Or we could have been 3-0. It's all dependent on how you want to be. Like the Yankees.

Like the Yankees only gave up one run against the Giants, only one. One single run. You can't get any hits. I got problems with our third base coach right now.

Well, you'd have a problem with your third baseman. Yeah. Whole point.

Well, no, because the fact is, we put Beatty at third DAR. That's what we got. The guy who's playing third and talking about it's putting a lot of mental stress on him to learn how to play third, thus, the whiffs. We've got a third baseman. Good one, Chris.

If you're like me and my family, you're all about creating amazing memories while on vacation. And for me, many of those have involved a home we found on Airbnb.

We had such great experiences that whenever we travel somewhere new, we always check Airbnb first to find a place that fits our needs. The homes we've stayed in, comfortable, safe, private. You feel like you're part of the community. After a long day of exploring or sitting on a beach, it really is nice to come back to a place you can call your own. Airbnb is also a great way, if you want, to earn some extra money while you're traveling or out of your house for an extended period of time.

You can make your home work for you while you're away. Not as a full-time thing, not as some big production, just something that fits into trips you're already taking. You can use the money for that dream vacation or put that money towards that outdoor kitchen you always wanted. Hosting on Airbnb just feels smart. Your home may be worth more than you think.

Find out how much at airbnb.com/slash host. The Rich Eisen Show Podcast. Antoine Fouqua is here. We just saw a trailer from Michael. It's awesome, man.

Thank you, man. Congratulations. And what do you think of when you're watching your trailer back right now? You must have spent a ton of time on that, obviously. Yeah, two years and one month.

Oh wow. Two years and one month. This is a journey, but uh I just I had so much fun making this movie, man.

Well, I bet. And you could see just from the lush scenes and scenery that you put on the screen right there. Start of the Jackson 5. Right up to the Early parts of his solo career, right? That's right.

Pretty much. And bec became a singer, a solo artist. What intrigued you about wanting because again, you have your choice here, so what intrigued you about wanting to do this? Michael. I mean, Michael just.

He transcends any artist I've ever experienced in my life. Did you ever meet him? No, I was supposed to meet Michael on um on uh remember the times.

Okay. But I was doing the commercial at the time, and John Singleton wind up doing it.

Okay. So it was just some calls back and forth. But I never got to sit down with Michael.

Okay. You know. But I mean, Michael's so eccentric and so different I mean, he shaped my career as well because I watched Michael not get let himself get put in a box as an artist. He's the first artist, black artist on MTV. You know, so for me, doing videos back in the day, I only got to do RB and rap videos.

You know, I couldn't do. uh you know Errol Smith or something like that.

So I watched Michael break out of the box. and create music for everyone. and get on MTV and change the game. And so I remember thinking. I don't have to just do videos to just RB and rap.

I can transcend that and do other things as well, just as an artist. Sure. And now you're. You couldn't do the video back then.

Now you're kind of recreating it. That's how life works. It's what you're doing. Divine order, man. It wasn't meant for me.

That was meant for John Singleton. God rest his soul. Yeah. You know, here we go. Right.

And so let's talk about the casting here because it's so crucial you get this right, right? I mean, like, you want to recreate something, but you also have to feel like it's real. How did you cast Jafar Jackson as Michael here?

Well, Jafar has an interesting journey. Jafar was rehearsing to be Michael for two years before. About a year before I came on, Graham King, the producer, had found Shafar, And when he flew to Italy to see me, I was on Equalizer 3. He said, I want you to do this film, Michael Jackson. I said, Who's going to play Michael?

Bob Richardson, the great DP, showed me a video. of him and Michael on the set together. But it was modern I said well Who when did you shoot a video with Michael Jackson? He said, No, this is Jafar. Uh And it blew my mind.

You couldn't tell the difference? Could not tell the difference. And then when I met Shafar, I thought he was pretending. I thought he was acting, auditioning for me. We wouldn't have breakfast.

He was so Michael-like, just his way he spoke and his behavior and his. Gentleness. And I said, this discovered. There's something interesting about it. Then we did a test screening.

And Rich, when I tell you, man, he walked out of the room and it was Michael Jackson. And we started recording him, just doing tests, makeup tests, all that. Then I threw a question at him.

Now, Jafar never acted before in his life. This is his first time ever. This is his first time ever. Never acted before in his life. Wow.

Right? I I I threw a question at him. Just to see what he would do. And he answered the question as if he was Michael. and he had the whole room with tears in their eyes.

And I was like He's the real deal. This kid is for real. First day of shooting, bad tour.

So, his first day in front of 500 extras, he had to come out and perform. Bad. Bad. Nice. Man, he blew everybody away.

And Coleman Domingo is his father. Oh, my God. Coleman Domingo plays Joe? Yeah. Let me tell you a story about Coleman.

I did a test with Coleman. I was filming something else. I hit a corner at the stage we're in. And I forgot we were doing a test with Coleman.

So when I turned the corner, I saw a guy with his back to me, and the makeup people were doing here, makeup on. I thought, this must be a test for. a wig or something. The guy turned around and was coleman, I I Shocked me. I can't tell you what I said.

I don't say it on the bank. But it shocked me. And he started talking to me as if he was Joe. In our normal conversation about the day's work. It was so good, I I went to Graham King, the the producer, I said, Graham.

We should film Coleman to date. That was not planned.

So when he's on the stage, you'll see in the movie when Michael's performing the final tour with his brothers. That shot of Coleman, all that performance, was the first day I saw Coleman in Hero Makeup as Joe. It was so good, I said, I'm putting him in the movie right now. Right now. Today.

And that's what's going to show up on the screen. Wow. And he was prepared. And so, how did you decide which moments to recreate and make big? How did you decide that?

Well, you know, working with John Logan, the writer, and Graham King, we really shaped the movie to capture Michael's character over from his formative years to bad torque. Right. And so through that time, there's highlights, as we know, right? There's moments you hit thriller. Moonwalk at the Barry Gordy Show.

Right. The beginning of Off the Wall. album and all that stuff.

So that kind of dictated certain things, you know. But the choices were hard because there's so many great songs. You forget how many great songs Michael has. It's unbelievable. It truly is unbelievable.

And they're all hits. They're all massive hits, not just massive hits. It's like a part of your life. When you hear it, you go back to that time. and you just remember that feeling.

And that's what the movie does. It takes you all the way back there. Remember the time. Remember the time? Look at us.

Look at us, Sandra. Rich is quick, man. It's early for me. You guys have been up early. I am.

We've been here for a couple hours. But so, yeah, what. Moments for you. Did you Sitting in your position, go, wow, this is amazing that I'm able to. recreate this in such an artistic way.

Which was that one for you? Hard. I mean, day one was bad, man. Not bad. That was hard.

What about the moon walk? The moonwalk was incredible. Because I think I told you in the green room that we had Don Mischer, the producer of that Hotown show, telling us the story about the Moonwalk. Michael doing it and getting ready for it, and figuring out: would he do it, would he not do it? And he did it.

And he did it, and he kept it a secret from everybody. That was a special moment because the jacket he has on belongs to his mother. He got that from his mother, and he kept everything a secret. He let no one see his rehearsal. Barry Gordy didn't even know he was going to do that.

So when he got up on stage and he performed, it just blew everybody's mind. It just, that was like the dance heard around the world, man. That was incredible. But the moment for me to really, and then we shot it all at the real place at the Pasadena playoffs. Awesome.

Everything we shot was pretty much in the real place. Everything. Wow. The night we shot a thriller. It was incredible.

We shot it in the real place where they shot the video. It was a full moon. When I pulled up in my car, my crew was dancing around with wolf heads on, singing thriller. I was like, oh, this is going to be a good night. But it was what it was, it gave me chills, man.

And then I saw the zombies. Rehearsing? Yes. I was like, I'm so blessed to be here doing this. It was incredible.

Well, I mean, since you um you have history and and you're in aficionado, wouldn't you say that thriller video is was the pinnacle of his MTV? Yes. Thriller was 'cause it was a movie. It was the first time we ever saw like a mini movie video. Remember we started off in the theater with the girl and he turned into a werewolf.

I mean, that was scary when you were a kid, you know what I mean? At that time. But uh I think it was probably one of the most expensive as well. But I was That was incredible. But that's Michael.

He was always pushing the envelope. Antoine Fouqua here on The Rich Eisen Show. Every time you come on here, I'm. I want to go so deep into your history. We kind of have a new audience being here on Disney.

Plus, in the ESPN app, and from the last time you were here, did you know Training Day was a hit when you were making it? Did you know it? I I had Humbly, I had two moments in that movie that I felt. this is going to be successful. It was Denzel in the car, chest, not checkers.

Because he has just killed Roger. And I thought, if Finzel Which I knew he could, is a great actor. can seduce us back into this car. This movie's outta here. And he did.

And then they put Ethan in a bathtub. Mm-hmm. And the King Kong moment. When he did that Okay. Gang members came up to me telling me that, oh, dude, this is a hit.

This is a hit. Like that, those two moments for me stand out. The King Kong moment, did you know? What he was going to say word for word? Nothing, right?

Oh, I knew obviously script. There was a certain part. But that's to the zone. He was just in his own. I mean, that was one of those moments that Okay.

People talk about AI. Those are the moments where you go, it's a great. tool. It's going to be a great tool I think at some point. But the emotion in the moment that an actor can bring You can't predict that.

That's something that's just inside of Denzel. And when that came out, I was just like I hope I got it. I just turned to my operator who was like shaking like this, because it was anamorphic, man.

So at that time, shooting anamorphic at night, it had to be sharp, focused. And I looked over at the guy, he was just shaking. I was like, please tell me you got that. Because that was the take. That was it.

There was no other take. You didn't have Denzel do another take, right? No. That was it. That was it.

I mean, how do you tell an actor like that that that wasn't good enough? I don't know what some directors like to do. Yeah, good luck with that. Not with Denzel. Nah, he walked over to me.

And he just had this look in his eyes. I was like You good? He said, You good? I said, Yeah. I don't know what else to tell you.

I don't know what other direction do I give you. Was the King Kong that was ad-libbed? That line? Yeah, okay. That was the putting case of all you on all you ad-like.

Putting cases.

Some of that was in the script, but he flipped it the way he did it. Yeah. Like putting cases on all you he kind of added some things in there, and then he just went into a whole other zone with the whole King Zone thing. with Pelican Bay. Denzel started that.

The Pelican Bay stuff was not on the page, is what you're saying. That was Denzel. That was him, man. He just kind of lit up. And it says I I think I forgot the yellow cut.

Really? I was just watching it because everybody started walking away, and I'm just watching him. And then he lights a cigarette, right? And he's lighting the cigarette, and he's like, and he's talking. And I'm just watching them.

And I think at some point he probably looked at me like, you gonna cut? I was like, oh, yeah, yeah.

So he was finished acting and took a smoke break. He was still in it. That's the thing with Diselle. He was just, he was so Alonzo. He was in it.

And he just lit up that cigarette and he was just like. Smoking, I'm just watching him for a while because I didn't know what else he was going to do. You know, it was just so magical. And then I think he looked up at me. And I was like, okay, cut.

Cut. Yeah, we've had Terry Cruz here as well. Oh, yeah, look at that. And he basically said, you found him. Yeah.

Just. Milling about because he was new a friend in security. Right. He said, Hey, we're shooting a scene here. Do you want to watch Denzel work tonight?

Yeah. And he's like, Sure. And then you spotted him and said, You want to be in the movie? He's like, Yeah, yeah, I saw him. Yeah, I was with a bunch of gang members sitting around, and he was over there with some security guys.

And I needed someone on the roof due to flipping pigeons. And I wanted him to look a certain way. And I just saw Terry. And for some reason I just said, who's that guy? And they said he's working with the security people or something.

I said, yo, bring him over here. And he came over, I said, yo, man, you want to be in the movie? He was like, yeah, so I'm going to put you on the roof. You ever heard of flipping pigeons? He had heard of it before.

I said, You're going to be on the roof doing this whole thing?

Next year I know Terry Cruz. No. It's all over the place. By the way, boom, Terry Cruz, look at him now. I mean, it's amazing.

That movie, Interesting People, came in that. Even Mendez, really, you know, when I think back on it, uh, Just amazing. I mean, Ethan was already Ethan, but he was something special in that film. Yeah, he was just nominated for an Oscar. He's been here before talking about that movie.

Yeah, man. That movie, yeah, it holds up. I can confirm that for you, by the way. I mean, you know, I'm saying that people talk to me about it all the time. Right.

Sue, we're going to your hometown for the draft, the NFL's draft. I believe it's. The Thursday before your book comes out. The Thursday, and it's so it's going to go NFL draft in Pittsburgh. And then the Michael movie.

And then the Michael movie on Friday night? Maybe it'll be my luck. It'll be all good. It's it's going to be all good. I mean, uh, I can I can pretty much say this is going to be all good.

Yeah, man, I'm excited. The draft, I'm I'm m Nervous about.

Well, why? Because of the Steelers you're talking about? Yeah, man. Okay. Who are we going to tell?

Rich is torturing me on that one. No, come on, man. No, it's okay. I mean, you know, what do we do, right? Who do we get?

Nobody. No idea. I have no idea. It's a totally new world. Tomlin's gone.

Which is going to be weird for me. It's weird for me, too. You know, I mean, you know, I'm glad that it's a homeboy that's taking over, though. Yeah. It's coming in.

He's from Pittsburgh. The toll taker. It's bittersweet, though. Yeah. Because they did beat us.

Yeah. I know it's crazy that if you, if I had told you that night, oh, the. coach of the Packers, who was a former toll taker and a guy who's, you know, Whose family owns a bar in Pittsburgh? He's going to be the one to take over for Tomlin one day. You'd like, get out of here.

It's just like a, I'm not sure if it's a dream or a nightmare. Pretty much. You know, but I think he's going to be a great job. It makes sense. when you really think about it as far as the way the distillers operate.

Um, he's a great coach. He's from Pittsburgh. He won with Rogers if Rogers comes back. You know, why not? What's your favorite sports movie?

Wow, my favorite sports movie. There's there's some good ones, but I would say um Brian song. You went old school on me here. Ryan's song. Because that emotionally messed me up.

When I was a kid, that was like. And it was about bringing a race together and how sports bring people together. And uh That is magic. James Kahn, Billy Dee, right? Brian's song.

Right. Brian's song. I thought you'd go remember the Titans just to protect your friendship. I'm sure Dean liked Brian's song. I'm sure he did too, for sure.

If you could direct. Um, a sports movie. It would be about the Steelers, the legacy of the Steelers. It's the legacy of the Steelers. I like that.

Legacy of the Steelers.

Okay. Yeah, the Steelers, to me, is just that's America's team. On Kiryne. I know Dallas fans are yelling at me right now, but. It's okay.

TJ's from. Pennsylvania and is a die-hard Cowboys fan. Come on, TJ. Grew up in Altoona. Grew up in Altoona.

Oh, man. I'll talk to you later. We could, because I got some ideas. Come on, bro. I mean, you and McCarthy, what's happening right now?

No, you know, it would be the Steelers' legacy. It would be the Steelers' legacy.

Okay. I think the Roonies are the classiest. Owners and loyal people, good people, that legacy is special. Who's the actor that's been on here that says he's been mistaken for Tomlin? Oh, OMR Eps.

Omar Epps says he's been stopped. Oh, yeah, they look alike.

Okay, yeah, I can see that.

So you could cap, but we're casting it right now. Let's go. We're casting it right now. Finding those big boys is going to be the thing. Who's going to be mean, Joe Green?

Who's going to be Jack Lambert? Hey, you're the one who picked Terry Cruz out of a crowd. You know, he had some time in the NFL. That's true. That's right.

Yeah. He's just like, you know, this NFL things for the birds. Let me go find me go flip some pitches. You know, and then the rest is history.

Now he's everywhere. Let me go do some acting and not get hit so hard. That's right. Yeah, he's everywhere.

So you have an eye for guys who can act. Oh, for sure. I love sports too. You know what I mean?

That's my love, man. It's great to see you. Thanks for coming here. Greatly appreciated. And I cannot wait for everybody to see Michael available exclusively in theaters Friday, April 24th.

The owner's meeting photograph, first one that we have is from Mike Garifollo, and it's apparently so terrible we can't even use it.

Well, it's I mean, there's a light stand in the middle. It's not great. Oh, he's separating the hardballs with a light stand, huh? That's what it looks like. Yeah, hardballs front and center, Andy Reed in the back this year.

Oh, Andy Reid's standing in the back. Yeah. All right. Once again they put the bald guys together. My goodness gracious.

Well, I was looking through previous years.

Well, we'll talk about it a little bit more when we get to a better angle. Robert Saul and Dan Quinn always stand next to each other. Oh, is that right? Did they do that? Yeah.

Oh, okay.

Okay, put the follicle Folically, challenge people together. Where's McDonald at? That's the most. Where are they putting the I counted? There's 30 of 32 in the photo.

Got it?

So he's not.

So Belichick still bought boycotting. Kyle Shanahan speaking about Mike Evans now on his team. Let's hit that. Definitely a Hall of Famer. He's as good as he gets in the way he plays.

Um I've always just liked the competitor in Mike. I think that's what to me, his talent and everything is separated him, but really just how he's come to work every day, just the people I know. practice to what the way he is in the building, how important the ball is to him. I mean, the fact that he chose to come to us just for the football situation and stuff shows how important football is to this guy. And you have veterans, and we got a number of veterans.

I love the thought of pairing him up with some of the guys that to me are playing for one reason is that's trying to get you. And one of the best news I heard over the weekend, John Lynch saying that George Kittle could be ready week one. Mm-hmm. Week one hit it. George is doing very good with his Achilles.

As for a a time frame, I think, you know, um We're hopeful for week one, you know.

Some management during training camp and all those, but we're hopeful he's progressing at a good rate.

Okay. Evans Kittle McCaffrey See what they do in the draft. Right? Isn't it Williams coming back? Jed York said he'd like Brandon Ayuk back.

Why wouldn't he? They're paying them. Yeah. They're paying them. And it's just like, hey, Brandon, I don't know what gives or what happened there, but.

That's Evans. That's Kittle. That's McCaffrey. That's hopefully again Trent Williams. That's Purdy.

Were you going to get any better than that? Not sure. It makes sense if Jed York's just like, we're paying him. We paid him. Number one, he wanted the money.

We gave it to him. Yeah. Then he blows his knee out, and then suddenly we did something so terrible, he won't play for us anymore. I mean, he's on our cap. He's on, like, let's go.

That's what the money is for, right? Like, Jed York should go full Don Draper. Yeah. Cause now you're talking. Pretty fun offer.

Draft one more, and Ricky Pearsall stays healthy, and you're off and running, man. You win the Super Bowl. You are that close to being the one seed. Man. I'm just, I'm angry for Niger Fans.
