Tom Brady's performance in flag football has sparked debate about whether he should still be considered the best quarterback in the NFL. Meanwhile, the NFL is considering new rule proposals, including one that would allow teams to trade draft picks five years into the future. The draft is also on the minds of fans, with speculation about who will be selected first overall and which teams will make blockbuster trades.

They just want a conviction. Being placed under arrest. We had to kill our monsters. Murderer. It's time for another edition of Overreaction Monday.

We say hello to everybody taking this in, whether it's on our YouTube channel or however you get your podcasts. Good to see you over there, Christopher Brockman. How are you? Happy Monday. What's up, man?

I am ready to go. I very rarely do that. Forget it, very rarely. I've never done this. To start this program.

What do we got? I 1,000% know how you think in one of those items on that turned over piece of paper. No, come on. I know exactly. What do you mean?

This is a simple topic. This is 1 million percent going to be. topic you mentioned.

So here's what I'm going to do. I have a Rich Eisen show card.

Okay. I'm going to write down what I think the topic is going to be, or some form or fashion of it. Are you going to try to Oz the mentalist me right now?

Well, I mean, Oz is a Michigan man, too. That's true. That's true. He really got the guys on the set for March Madness over the weekend. Uh with um Boozer thing, which was pretty awesome.

And then he's O's. Right. And it was Boozer.

Okay, here we go. I got it. All right, so you wrote it down. I'm not looking. Do you want to reveal first and then I reveal, or how do you want to do this?

No, we will just hold it in abeyance. And the minute you say it, I will hold up the card. I honestly have no idea, but I just know. Sure. Uh what this is.

Ready? I'm ready. Hit it. That was terrible. That was crap.

That was garbage. This place sucks. Overreaction. Mondays. Mondays.

Please be the first one.

Okay, here's the deal. Uh, Rich, there was actual football that was played this weekend here in Los Angeles. The Fnatics uh flag football classic. Yes, sir. It was awesome.

Team USA. Kind of dominated. I'm going to get to them in a second. But one thing in particular stood out. Yes.

And it was 48-year-old Tom Brady was out there throwing dimes. Looking like he can still do it. Rich, if Tom Brady had just played for the Raiders instead of retiring, he'd have at least eight Super Bowl rings.

Okay. Okay. So Here's my card. I hold it up. And it is Tom Brady should keep playing/slash unretire or is still the best quarterback in the NFL.

This is in the neighborhood. This is in the neighborhood. Yes, I agree with that too. Are you telling me? Are you telling me?

It's in the neighborhood. Don't you think? I mean, I didn't. I didn't go as. I went eight rings.

I went, he would have won a Super Bowl with the Raiders. With the Raiders. That's a retiring. He would never have played for the Raiders. Period.

Why not? Because he knows he couldn't win a Super Bowl with them. Rich, here's the deal: you know where John Brady can win a Super Bowl? Anywhere he goes because guess what the players come to him Yeah, but let's call it the way we see it. He is the greatest ever.

Still is. He has. an incredible knack. For throwing the football and knowing how to throw it, knowing where to put it, and knowing how to play, and knowing. everything and having a God-given ability that he's only Um getting better at it seems.

But listen. It's flag football. There's nobody coming. What is the NFL these days? Nicely done.

Nicely done. He would never have played for the Raiders. He knows how... Much work is needed. He knew how much work was needed.

If he had played again, it would have been for Tampa. He would have stayed put there. That's where he would have stayed put because they would have had a better chance than the Raiders. He only went to the Raiders because the owner there was offering him a piece of the franchise, and he knows that's the next portion of his chapter of his life, or at least a portion of the chapters in his book for the rest of his. You know, football days.

Tampa was a 500 team in Brady's final, which is the reason why I retired. No, no, that's not why he retired. One of the reasons why he retired, he knew. There's only one reason why he retired, and we all know it.

Well, because his personal life? Yeah, exactly. That had something to do with it, I'm sure, if not the entirety of something to do with it, that he wanted to be with his kids or whatever was going on, if we want to stray in that lane and now leave it to go back to the football aspect of it. But if any football part of it. I was there around Tom in his last year in Tampa, and he was 1 million percent frustrated with the inability of the protection up front for himself and for the running game.

And he just knew that things were not going in a direction where he could win another Super Bowl and thus. Take everything else in his life. And go ahead and supersede it because he wanted to play one more year for one more ring. He set NFL records for completions and attempts. This is an overreaction that he'd have eight rings because he'd have one with the Raiders.

That would never happen, and B, and B, he's great, but not great enough to actually win with a team that was surrounded like that. All right, let's talk about your topic then. Do you think Tom Brady, if he played this year, is a top-five quarterback? Where is he playing? Behind if you're giving me the line, you're giving me an offensive line, right?

Yeah, sure. You're giving me an offensive line. I'm giving you an average offensive line. Average. I mean, the guy's almost 50 still.

So? I know. He's shredded. I saw it. He's still throwing absolute dimes in the tightest window.

It's so great to see it. It was amazing. It was so great to see. It's so great to see. How about this one?

How about this one? What? Do you think. Brady should come back this year and the Raiders use the first overall pick on somebody else. No, if he comes back this year, if you really want to go down this lane, he would do that so they would give Mendoza a year.

And see what was going on. Even better. But he would have to. There's no way you can't own a team and play for it. Why not?

Because there's rules.

Well, the league has to vote, and it'd be in their best interest to allow this to happen. I think Tom makes enough money. He makes um From what appears from about 10 million less than what Daniel Jones signed. 37 and a half. Right, right, right.

He plays for the transition tag for quarterbacks. Right, yeah, sure. That's basically what he plays for. That's a bargain. If you're getting the guy that showed up on Saturday here in L.A.

throwing dimes, flag football, boom, top five. Tom Brady would be an MVP finalist. Right, but he'd need to have a clean pocket, he'd need to have. The Raiders are not ready to go. They just got Linda Baum.

They got Brock Bowers. I got her. You know, Stefan Diggs, he threw a dime to Stephon Diggs. He's a free agent. I knew the way you think.

I knew the way you're not wrong. I had, I'll, yeah, I mean, let's just move on other than to say. I know you. I know the way you think.

Now move on. These are all mostly overreactions, but you can't sit here and say Brady's not one of the best ever, one of the best in the league right now. He would be. It's hard to argue against that. All right, let's talk about the actual football.

Team USA was awesome. Darrell Toussett, Hoosh and company dominated everyone. And I think because of that, the way they dominated the flag football classic, NFL players should stay home for the 2028 Olympics. I don't think that's an overreaction at all. We don't need them.

Chris, I don't think that's an overreaction at all. Doucet is a guest on Monday's Rich Eisenchey. I can't wait to talk to him. I don't think that's an overreaction at all. I think, listen, I understand the NFL has a flag football priority.

Makes sense. My daughter. loved playing flag football two years ago when she was 10. And she just can't wait to play it again. She loved it.

It's perfect for kids. It's perfect for girls. It's perfect for anybody out there who wants to play football but doesn't want to get hit. Exactly. You know what I mean?

It's great for anybody. Doesn't matter the gender, doesn't matter the age. It's awesome.

So I understand the NFL wants to have that. As a priority. And I also understand the NFL probably looks at the NBA and the NHL and sees how their stars take some time out. And starring the Olympics, which helps splash attention back on their respective associations and leagues, Major League Baseball with the World Baseball Classic. And now we'll see what happens in the Olympics with that.

I think the NFL would love to have their stars on an Olympic stage, Mahomes holding the American flag, for instance, for some sort of a ceremony. I totally understand. But I think this showed you that it's better to have people who actually play at all. It's a different game, yeah. You know, I do believe when I first heard Doucet say, I'm better than Mahomes, you know.

I know we were all kind of rolled our eyes. Does he mean at flag football or does he mean at football, period? I think he means at flag football. We'll see what he says, you know, when we, when he comes on the show Monday, and this is being recorded before it, but I don't think you're off on this one at all. The thing is, it's like kind of lose-lose if you send the NFL guys and they don't win gold, then what?

Yeah, no, I agree with you on that. Certainly, if you're going to be going against people who do it for a living, or pretty much all year round, and I know the sport and know how to actually play it, and our teammates and have that vibe and kind of like in the same way, Team USA flag football going out, putting pads on and playing against these guys and actual tackle football. That would not go well for them. You wouldn't want to attempt that either. I mean, who should 5'7?

That's not an ideal quarterback height. But this was a great exhibition for them. And by exhibition, I don't mean games that don't count. I just mean to show off their talents. And I think it was eye-opening for the flag football 28 initiative.

NFL guys pushing, like, you're not on their level yet. Especially since it was in the stadium where the actual Olympic games for flag football will take place. So, well, I totally agree with you on this one. Cool. Let's talk about some headlines now. Breaking news Monday morning. The Seahawks get JSN record-breaking contract 42 in change per year for him, the highest paid wide receiver in the NFL.

Yes, sir. Seahawks are going to regret paying JSN nearly $10 million more than Sam Darnold. Can't pay your wide receiver that much more than your franchise quarterback. Can't do it. What do you mean?

Why can't you do it? That does uh what kind of dangerous precedent are you setting here? Are you saying JSN is more important to your team's success than your quarterback? I know what you're saying. Yes, you are.

You are saying that because you're doing that's what the money's for, Rich Eisen. They're telling us how they view him, more important than Sam Darnold. Big mistake, or you are not looking at it the right way. This is a massive overreaction. This is as wide an overreaction as you've had in recent memory.

I don't know, man. I don't know about this. I don't know. I think I'm on this. This shows.

is to the rest of the locker room. That if you ball out And it is your time to be paid. You will be paid. It does show the rest of the locker room. We are willing to pay the guys that are here.

I've been drafted. And have shown every year improvement, and also not just every year improvement on the field, but every day consistency in the locker room, in the community. You do what you are being asked to do. You are being, you're excellent at what you're tasked at doing. and you also comport yourself in a way.

That makes us as a franchise even more solid in the community. You are going to get Paid and not just paid, not just market level, market changing, market breaking dollars. That is what it shows to everyone in the locker room that we're going to do. And I understand the quarterback is the leader of the team. I understand the quarterback usually is the highest paid guy on the team.

Sam Darnold came in from somewhere else, bawled out, and did everything that I just said that JSN is being rewarded for doing, but it's not his time. to get paid. When it is time to get paid, we will see what happens. We will see if he does make he will make you gonna give him sixty million now because that's no that's the type of precedent that you've set up by this guy. And it will be up to the coach, it will be up to the general manager to manage that situation.

I don't think Darnold is the type of guy that's going to be like, wait a minute, you paid him market level. How am I not the highest paid quarterback in the league?

Well, he may not be, but his agents might be. Maybe so. And then we will see what happens. And if it does not work out for the Seattle Seahawks, then they will send him on his way and they will find another Sam Darnold. Easily easier said than done.

But that is all I'm saying. It does sound harsh. I'm not saying that will happen. I'm not saying that should happen. I'm just saying that if Darnold overplays a hand or an agent overplays a hand, this is what NFL teams.

Will do. Jackson Smith and Jigba. It was his time where he could get paid. He showed up. In a way, that they were hoping he would show up after DK Metcalf gets sent to Pittsburgh He showed up in a way.

That made him a standard bearer for the position in the NFL Offensive Player of the Year. He was able to put the bag on the table and tell John Schneider and management. Fill it up. And they did. This is why perhaps fans or might have been upset That Kenneth Walker III was told, Thank you for your MVP season.

We're not franchise tagging you, and we're running the risk of sending you somewhere else. This is part of the reason. That's part of the reason. They knew that Jay. They'd rather pay a running back or a wide receiver.

Um You're Mr. Running back how important and valuable they are. When you're saying paying, what do you mean by that? I mean something like this. When you have Jackson Smith in jigbo.

You don't think he has one-year wonder potential? No way. He's not a good person. Was he the reason they won the Super Bowl? No, the reason why they won this quarterback was right.

And the fact that he did what he did throughout the year, too. I mean, he's a major reason why. It wasn't the reason why they won the actual game in Santa Clara. But come on now. These are the things that have to happen in the NFL, and the rest of the locker room is going to take this exactly the opposite way.

That you are framing this in your topic. I think we've gotten a little carried away with these wide receiver salaries. Overreaction. What else you got? All right, let's talk a little bit of the draft.

We talked about Mendoza earlier. We know he's going number one. The book on Ty Simpson is kind of all over the place. That's true. Some knocks have him not in the first round at all.

Some have him late 20s. I think. I think this kid can play, and I think he's going to be drafted higher than everyone thinks. What is that? Top 15, top 16?

Top 15, top half of the first row. Right now, someone is going to trade up for this guy. You know what? Maybe that should have been the idea.

Someone's going to trade up for Ty Simpson. I don't think so. I don't think so. What is the Steelers' plan? That's a good question.

I don't know. I understand. Where's Aaron Rodgers? I don't know. I have no idea.

Will Howard didn't play last year. I understand that. They don't have to do anything right now. Except that I'm not sure if you're not sure. think there's any need for a strategy other than the fact of Let's see what happens when Rogers is either ready to sign or we're ready to sign him.

Let's see what happens in the draft. I don't know. I have no idea. what their Steelers plan is. Um their usual higher Process that we see once in a generation.

Spat out a guy who is of a certain age that does not match their previous generation's hiring process. Very true. He's also an offensive guy.

So and he's also a guy as we all heard is uh a quarterback um whisperer.

Somebody who can bring a quarterback along, somebody who did. actually bring one along with the Aaron Rodgers in perfect Perfect guy to have there. Yeah, Dak played really well under Mike McCurb. Correct. Yeah.

So getting him a young quarterback right away would be the smart move. Will Howard could be their answer. I don't know. Nobody knows. Why do they have to declare it?

They shouldn't. They shouldn't before the draft. Certainly, if what you're saying is that Simpson's stock is going to rise to the point where you think he's going to be drafted high. I feel like we're a month out. Why wouldn't you let people think you would take him?

I feel like we're a month out. This is about the time when this kind of stuff with the quarterbacks gets rolled out. When this kid has his pro day, it'll look great and everyone's going to start talking about how great he is and all the top visits and top 30 visits and who's going here and who's going where. And then we'll see what happens on the first night of the draft in Pittsburgh. For the moment, though, as we're sitting here right now, in March, The Monday after the round of 32 in March Madness.

This is a. More of an overreaction than anything else. This is a little bit of madness. You think? I wouldn't say madness.

I don't think. Could you imagine? Let me set the scene. We're in Pittsburgh. Right.

Well, that's correct. And then the commissioner walks out. We have a trade. It's like maybe 13, pick 13, 14, someone. We have a trade.

The Steelers are on the clock. The buzz starts brewing. Ty Simpson gets picked. Place goes nuts. That's a scenario that I think the league wants.

I think Steelers fans could be actually excited about a quarterback for the first time. When was the last time Pittsburgh was excited about a quarterback? Why would they be even there was a bigger buzz. Prior to the drafting of Ben Rofflisberger, than there is right now for Ty Simpson. About Big Ben?

Correct. Coming out of Miami of Ohio. I don't think anybody really knew Big Ben coming out of Miami. I was there. He played the draft.

I get it, but he played for Miami of Ohio. I understand that. He didn't play for Alex. There was a full conversation that maybe the Giants should go get him, and the Steelers definitely need him. He's a big dude.

They haven't had somebody like him. Yada, yada, yada. Right now, don't feel that for Ty Simpson. Could change between now and the night that you're, you know. talking about Yeah.

Yeah, we're on every just refreshing everything. Mike Reese, all the local beat guys. Zolak, what are we doing? Refreshing. Refreshing for brown news.

Yeah.

Okay. I want brown news.

Okay. AJ specifically. Not including him, however, we're going to get at least one more monster trade before the draft. I think you're right about that. It just feels like something.

I don't know. I'm thinking like. George Pickens, he's tagged.

Somebody make a move for him.

Okay. And I think Dallas would be happy to let him go and take some draft picks. Devin A-Chan, look, they say not touchable. For what price?

Okay. They're just saying that to get the price up. And Max Crosby, I think, is still a possibility. I think one of these three guys gets moved. That's the one.

If anything. If anything. Again, right now we're trying to hunt and peck for... Um you know For any sign. That Crosby still wants out, or at least has created a situation where the Raiders.

Uh agree it's better. For him to go elsewhere. Everyone's saying the right thing right now. Everyone's saying that.

Well, I mean, everyone's saying either what they believe. Which is you know Crosby's a raider Um and a Raider for Life. And Crosby saying, you know, it was meant to be, you know, it sucked, that was terrible. What I went through, what I, you know, what I heard when I was in Baltimore, how it was delivered to me, the news. You know, I'm flying in a.

I'm flying into DC and I'm driving up to Baltimore. That one was a weird one. There's a lot of weirdness about it and awkwardness about it. And you're just wondering if that experience. and the emotions that have left uh that Uh the emotions that were Created by that experience have superseded the emotions.

that Crosby was feeling the minute he was told he was not playing the last two weeks of the season. leading to the trade Um The trade concept, the concept of actually trading him, right? The concept of a trade. Right. You know what I mean?

Um has the current Situation and its aftermath superseded all of what led to it. I don't have an answer for that just yet. I don't think anybody does. There doesn't need to be an answer now, either. He won't be medically cleared till June, anyway.

Right. You know what I mean? So there's no need to have anything happen.

Now, midnight is not striking for at least another month. Let's see what happens. That's the only one. I don't think the Cowboys are going to reverse field on Pickens, and I don't think A-chan's going anywhere either. He's so damn good.

But if you're bottoming out in Miami, like, really bottom out. I don't know if that's what you want to do with Malik Willis. He still is a $20 million quarterback. That's not nothing. I don't see those other two.

I do see the Crosby. Possibility. And you talk about a concept of a trade. That's the entire spirit of this topic, sir.

So I don't think you're overreacting there.

Okay, and I want to continue on this idea. We're in the part of the offseason, non-playing season, where you hear about the leaked new rule proposals. Yes. This one, I think, is going to get some traction. The one the Browns threw out there.

Five drafts or five years' worth of draft. The league should pass this, the Browns proposal. This would lead to more blockbusters. It would. I don't think it's a great idea.

Why? Why? Because you're trading draft choices five years into the future. The NBA does it. But all the other sports do it.

NFL changes coaches. On average. Of almost, you know, what would you say, a quarter of the league changes every three, four years? Right? Or, or, or less than 20% of the league changes coaches and general managers?

If you're an owner, Why would you ever want to handcuff A general manager, well, you want to hire a gentleman, John Eric Sullivan, for instance.

Okay, this for instance, right? Let's just say this guy is the GM that all Dolphin fans are hoping he's going to be, Troy Aikman. Saw him, identified him. You should go hire this guy, and he would say. 100%.

I'll take the job in South Florida and move to a state with no tax. And I'll move to Florida. I'll be the Dolphins gym. I've always wanted to be a team of my own team. You don't have a draft choice for the next four years?

In the first round? Oh. I'll stay putting Green Bay and waiting for another Joe Bay. Yeah, but who would they have traded? But if you get down there and you're like, you know what?

Hey, Mike Brown, here's four number ones for Joe Burrow. Yeah, sold. It's a perfect way for owners to try and keep a check on themselves. It's the sucker's play. Oh, why are we not just allowing us to dip years into the future?

Plus, why would I acquire a first-round pick? In the draft, four years or five years from now.

So you're saying a team right now for this draft. for the 2026 draft should 27 28 29 30. For the 2031 draft, should be able to say, I want to trade you a 2031 draft. Draft if you're a team, why would you not want to acquire those assets right now?

So, what? Yeah, you have no idea who that player is going to be. You don't know where it could land the team that trades that's to you. You're trading them somebody that's so damn good that suddenly they start to. They start a dynasty in that 2031 draft, which is practically a second-round pick now.

Or they'll be crappy for three years and then they'll finally hit it with the player you give them. And then suddenly that draft choice that you're getting is not nearly as great. You can't identify where it will land in the draft. You can't identify a player that you even take. Why would you acquire it?

Why would you allow yourself to also mortgage the future in a way that will crush your ability to hire the coach you want if you're terrible, the general manager you want if you're terrible? It's a terrible thing. You're thinking about it from the seller's point of view. Think about it. From the buyer's point of view, no, no, no, no, no, no.

The buyers. Let's cross sport. I just told you you don't know where to peg it on the draft order or which player you take. Let's cross sport. You think Oklahoma City is feeling good about all those moves they made and all the draft picks they acquired right now?

They not only have a budding dynasty. They're not sport. Yeah, but the concept is still the same. It's team building and team management. This is something you can also top.

You could top five, protect them. You could top 10, protect them. That's terrible. No, I think the NFL should be taking place. Oh, yeah, we should, the NFL should become.

More like the NBA, where you can't follow your team's draft picks. You can't even, oh, I'm so psyched about this draft choice that we have. Wait a minute, it's lottery protected? What does that mean? We have an apron, we got this, we got that.

Oh, wait a minute. We make that trade, we make that trade for somebody in the draft, and he's wearing the hat of the team that just drafted. No, that's not my draft. That's not going to happen. All that stupid crap.

No, no, I'm talking about draft picks. But, Lord, the last thing you want to do is make your draft like more blockbusters. NFL draft is the most popular draft for a million reasons. This would defray even that. I hate this idea, and I think it won't even be brought to a vote in the next day.

They won't even bring this thing to the floor. No way. They won't even bring it to the floor. I bet that's so terrible. It's so terrible of an idea.

And every Browns fan knows, oh, perfect. It's our franchise that says, just keep mortgaging the future. Let's just try and not figure this stuff out. Get out of here with this nonsense. Or they're just getting ready to try and trade Miles Garrett, and they want as many first-round draft choices from somebody else's team.

By the way, great strategy. All right. You don't think that's a good idea? Miles Garrett for four number ones? What else you got?

Somebody would do that. What else you got? Last one, Rich Eisen, and I want to have fun with this, okay? You think about the best nicknames in sports, right? The Great One, Air, all the fun stuff.

We got a potential. Brewing in the NFL. For a great All-time nickname. Oh, you got me. Color me intrigued here.

What do you got? Caleb Williams.

Okay. Going by the Iceman. Yes. I think has a possibility to be the best nickname. It's pretty cool, man.

I do like it. He filed some trademark paperwork this week for that. Kyle Brandt, obviously, a huge Bears fan, is behind it. Oh. We saw the.

I mean, he gave his vote, you know, his say of support.

Okay. We saw the big moment in the playoffs. He throws the bomb, immediately puts his hands back in the warmer space. It's good. Iceman.

Especially since if he doesn't do well, the other team can have a lot of fun with, you know, there's possibilities. Iceman melting. Iceman meltif. You know, the New York Post back page headlines are good. I think this could be a great one.

I. have nothing but Uh Positive vibes for this kid and everything that he has does. I have nothing but wanting the massive amount of success for him to be sort of. The next iconic Chicago athlete. Certainly, since the way that he throws it.

Against the grain of his body, looks like one of the previous Chicago iconic athletes, right? You know what I mean? So I think it's great. I think it is exactly what the Bears fans need, and the Bears fans being engaged and excited is great for the league. I think it's great.

It's a way for the Packers to have their fun with him. In the same way, what they put the cheese graters on. Cheese graters. Would they put a space heater on the head? You know what I mean?

I don't know. I just think it's great. And I can't wait to see what next year looks like. And I wish him all the best. Yeah, he's one of the guys when you're talking about who could be a breakthrough MVP type guy.

Caleb, I think, is at the top of the. The Chicago Bears. But, you know. And I'm here for all the Top Gun and Val Kilmer memes. Sure, you know, because that's what you immediately think about when you see Iceman.

And I got it right. I knew you'd go, Brady. I knew you'd go, Brady. I knew you'd go, Brady. I didn't know it'd be right off the top.
