Drinking and driving will change your whole world. The next time you're out with your friends, consider what would happen if you got pulled over after drinking, like the legal fees or the time in court or a DUI on your record. Your decision to drink and drive could change someone else's world, too, if you hurt or kill them in a crash. Instead, what if your decision to call a sober ride changed your world for the better? Drive sober or get pulled over.

Why did Shane Steichen make the decision he made? He showed his athleticism there on a naked bootleg. I think you have to just follow what he said all along, which was he was looking for somebody who could operate the offense at a high level. Earlier on the show, NFL Network insider Tom Pellicero. Coming up, actor Eugenio Derbez.
Plus, your phone calls, latest news, and more. And now, it's Rich Eisen. All right, hour number three of the Rich Eisen show is on the air. Susie sitting in for Chris, TJ here, and Jay Feli there, and you wherever you are. uh we'll take your phone calls shortly uh suz has got an update uh a news update that she's about to deliver here um as you know i like going into the green room whenever we have a guest to welcome that guest um born out of when i went to the daily show years ago and i was nervous as all hell and john stewart came back and made me feel real comfortable seth myers does that as well letterman didn't do that um so i like going back there and i'm sorry liz i'm gonna i'm gonna out you here But Liz Weald, who is our co-executive producer and outstanding, outstanding member of our world and is the person who books the celebrities here.
She says to me, Eugenio Derbez is here. He's an absolute delight and he's got an incredible head of hair. And I can confirm. Suze, the two shots going to be rough for the kid is what I'm telling you. But you're used to that sort of thing.
You know what I mean? Yeah. Thank you for confirming. that's where you're supposed to say no the placating works both ways I sit next to Renee Montgomery she's pretty gorgeous do you want to say what she called me or not? a zaddy?
she called me a zaddy once Susie not only did not know what it was but was stunned that I did I was in shock zaddy rich please refer to me as such I don't know I think it would be weird if I did it but you got it You got it, man. That's what's up. I thought, how weird, you know, some weird random Yiddish thing calling you a Zadie. Definitely not. There's a big difference between Zadie, Zadie, Zadie.
Get out of here. Yes, big difference. Let's bury the lead, though, Rich. Welcome to the Zadie. There's a hot guy in the green room.
I just paid attention. What? That's right. Rich, say it with your chest from now on.
Okay, hour number three of the Zadie Eisen show is on the air. Say it with your chest. All right, everybody. He's hot right now, Suzy. Your man's hot right now.
Suzy Schuster with a news update brought to you by NHTSA. Hit it. And now, with a report of the day's news from the world of sports and entertainment. Suzy Schuster. Hey.
For a second, I thought Chris Parnell's going to say my name. No. Say my name. When he comes back, we'll have him do. But it's not Chris Parnell, Suzy.
That's Tom Brokaw. That's NBC News Emeritus Tom Brokaw. Were you mistaken? Not Dr. Spichemin.
My favorite show of all time. That's correct. All right, guys, can we talk about sports? Sure. Listen.
Okay. Listen.
I didn't get my hair done for nothing.
Okay. Nice. Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski announcing who will be under center for the Browns preseason game against the Rams. He took to the podium, as I want to say. Let's hear what he had to say.
Okay, here we go. Everybody should expect to play. As you know, Scott, just on an individual basis, we'll put the guys out there based on what we think they need. Joe will start the game. Dylan will play second.
Shador will play third. That's a real shocker.
Okay. So Joe will play first. What do you say? Dylan will be second. Dylan will be second.
Yeah, because Kenny Pickett's still not healthy enough. Yeah. He's going to make this team based on just his name and his experience? Does this mean Shador's oblique situation? Maybe.
Let's hope so. Listen, we all know, if Shador's playing third and he's going to be playing against a bunch of individuals who might not be on a roster next week, he's going to kill it. He's going to absolutely smoke it. If his last time on the field. Dude, that is not an outlier.
He's going to kill it. And I've told you already, the one thing that Shador Sanders is 100% ensured is that no matter who starts for the Cleveland Browns, that individual will be booed until he starts. Unless Flacco is so clear head and shoulders and they're winning games, then that won't be the case. I was thinking about this the other day in a group chat I had. Do you see any chance that Shador may even get moved right now?
No way. Really? Maybe. I don't know how they're going to keep four guys. That's what I'm saying.
Somebody's got to go, you would think. Wouldn't it be great if he goes, if let's just say Shador does get traded and the compensation is better than a fifth-round pick? Because he proved he's worth more than a fifth-round pick. Right? And I know it's just one preseason game, but he was terrific.
But wouldn't that be so wildly unpopular to move him? I mean, he's going to bring so many butts to those seats.
Well, if he plays. If he plays. But that's the point, is that Flacco's going to start, and if the guy struggles, and then let's put in Kenny Pickett, even though he didn't have any specific time in the preseason, but he's healthy and he's gotten the time in the league. Any victory formation for a Super Bowl, and he's been around, and let's throw him out there, and he doesn't perform well, and then they go to Dylan Gabriel. Good luck.
The dog pounder. Could you imagine if they start playing rotating quarterbacks and Shadour's not one of them? Yeah, the dog pound would lose it. Because you can already see, and you know him. People are drawn to this kid.
I don't know what went on in those meetings, and I've never met him. But you watch the videos of him and Miles Garrett and the way they interact. You watch videos of him with kids. Kids absolutely, by the way, Shiloh the same way, absolutely love these guys, man. And then the community is behind him.
Browns fans are behind him. I really don't know where the hate or the dislike. Did you see him go up to Tony Grossi after the game? A long time, you know, obviously, journalist there and a columnist in Cleveland. And ask.
And basically said, you never say anything positive about me. Yeah. And then joked about it with him. Yeah, I mean. That's like a 10-year veteran doing that sort of stuff.
But I saw that exchange between Shadour and Tony, and I'm like, that is his. That's a chip off the old block right there. And he didn't even say it like any malicious. No, with a smile on his face. Why are you never saying anything good about me?
Right, right. Right. And by the way, I've been on the business end of that from Prime. Oh, really? Yes, but it's about stopping in airports to say hello to the dogs.
And I would go up and I'd pet them, and sometimes I would just give them a little kiss on the head, and he said, why are you going and licking dogs? These were conversations I had with Dion. in airports. What else you got over there, Suze? No, I would say you always want to do that.
Of course.
So I would tell Prime, like, you know. I know that. You also don't want to hear what Prime has to say about us, though. I've heard it myself. Thanks so much.
Speaking of Sidor, he took to the podium today to discuss the Dylan Gabriel's comments last week about entertainers and competitors. If you remember the Aditi Kinkabual in question was set up. In fact, it was chopped up a bit so that it was maybe misconstrued. This is what Chador had to say.
Okay. Honestly, I don't, I don't even think about nothing. I don't think about anything. If it's not words or anything, you know, at this point, I can't do anything to me. You know, I know, you know, the God put the ability and the power within me to not even think about nobody else comments, not care.
It is what it is. I spoke with him. He said, nah, but I wasn't, he said, that wasn't, he told me on the plane, he came up, he was like, nah, but I wasn't at you. I see how they trying to spin. I'm like, oh, I, I'm not tripping regardless or whatever it was.
I don't, nobody's words or anything affects me, you know?
So, yeah.
So did you believe him when he told you it wasn't on you? Did I believe him? Yeah. I mean, I feel like you're trying to start stuff now. I feel like you're trying to start stuff.
I mean, he's doing his job. He's supposed to. Do I feel like he did? I don't know. And that's not on me to sit here and be like, oh, he did, he did it.
That's not going to change my life in any way.
Now, that's a really smart answer, I thought, anyway. That's his dad. That was really, really clever. Ship off the old block. And if you recall, his coach was the same coach who, before playing the Buffaloes, had said they're fighting for clicks, we're fighting for wins.
Remember Dan Lanning had said that? Oh, that's right.
So it kind of goes and plays together, TJ. I forgot about that.
Okay. See, Brockman's saying he didn't mean it like that.
Now I'm starting to read. He didn't mean it like that. But Dan Lanning did mean it like that when he was talking about. Yeah. Yeah, I honestly think that Dylan played it.
I mean, Dylan said it, he explained it. I think once you heard the context, it was different. And I think Shador handled that perfectly. Certainly when it was apparently pouring outside. Was anyone ever hearing that in the background?
Excellent sound.
Well, Richie, you're an entertainer, man.
So how did you feel when Dylan said that? Because he was talking about you, entertainers. I'm a competitor. I don't know what you're talking about. How are the media entertainers?
I just thought that was a weird comment. Entertainers, I don't know, but better than enemy of the state, I guess. What else you got over there? I have other things. Putting my glasses back on.
Sean McDermott announcing that reigning MVP Josh Allen will sit out the final preseason game, marking the first time Allen has not played in the preseason in his career. This is what he had to say.
Well, number one, that's my job, is to adjust as need be. And you've got the reigning MVP, and I feel like he's showing to this point that he's in a good spot.
So Josh is in a spot where he and I talk about that, and listen, he's always going to want to play. That's what competitive people want to do. They want to play, but I have a responsibility as well to protect him and in doing so protect our team.
So, again, I think he's on schedule, and he's looked good. You've been out there at practice, and you've watched. He's looked good to this point, and I feel good about where he's at right now. Love it. I think he's in a good spot.
What's the point of playing him? Josh Allen has reached that status, although Mahomes is – I think Mahomes is going to get some run this weekend. That's Andy Reid. Listen, I – neither here nor there. What's the point of playing him preseason game number three?
Okay, so you're Andy Reid. Do you play him? I would say sit down. Don't get off the bench. Maybe that's what he got on the registry.
August off. maybe that's what maybe that was what uh what this is this is much ado about nothing but it's the first time he's never done it um i i have a feeling he's gonna look pretty sharp against the baltimore hey you better hope he he does because if he doesn't week one the headlines are gonna read hey guess what man in the preseason guess what guess what would you rather have that as a is he he's too rusty he didn't play in the preseason or are you gonna say well he didn't do that well on Sunday night because he still working through that soft tissue injury he suffered in week three of the preseason in a game that mattered 0 Well you know the real you know the click baiters the bait clickers will go The entertainers. Yeah, maybe Josh went to Hollywood with his new marriage. Oh, stupid. You know how people get?
It's all silly. What else you got over there? This is going to get you going. Uh-oh. The Jags are holding out Travis Hunter from the last preseason game.
Oh, okay. Great. That's fine with me. That's your favorite right now. No, that's fine with me.
Rich wants him playing 300 plays a game. That's right. So give him the rest of the ball. He had an upper body injury, Rich. Oh, my arm.
Okay. Upper body injuries, whatever that is. His arm. You know what it is? It's all good.
You know what I mean? Better than a lower back.
Well, that's correct. That is true. I don't care. Ask Jay Feli. He's right there.
Listen, certainly since I was sitting there Friday night on NFL Network for preseason game number three, I'll have a different point of view. Right now, it's like, don't play. Friday night, it's going to be like, please play. Just show you. It's different.
It depends on which chair I'm sitting. But in this chair right now, that's fine. You are versatile, Richard. I want Travis Hunter 100 snaps a game.
So give him off August. That's fine. Rest of August. Take the rest of the month off, Travis. Sure.
You got a direct line to TK. You could tell him that. Tony Khan.
Okay, that's true. Yeah, Travis, take the pen. What else? The Bucs plan to activate Chris Godwin and Tristan Wurfs from the Pup List. Godwin's got a way to go from coming back from his ankle injury.
Separated in week seven last year. Let's see. I mean, I think that's... What's so funny? Because news updaters shouldn't go, well, let's see.
I've never been a news update person in my entire career. What else would I do? I sat next to Playboy Playmates who were the news update girls. Come on. Shout out.
Right, but keeping him off the putt list gives him an opportunity to play in week one. It does. I'm lost. All right. All right.
He's just in. Could you imagine Walter Cronkite one day on the CBS Evening News going, let's see. Let's see. What else do we have here? Oh, my God.
Oh, yeah. The war's unwindable. You're not supposed to make me laugh during a news update. Oh, yeah. Yeah.
Now I've got to do a Diane Sawyer. Rich, the NFL trade's coming in. Sky Moore traded to the Niners dealing with their continued series of wide receiver injuries. And Harrison Phillips to the Jets. How do you feel about that?
That one is, I mean, Tommy P hit that one before. You don't normally get somebody that, you don't just trade away, you know, locker room leaders who play defensive tackle usually.
So what he's saying, and I thought that was interesting, is that they need wide receivers, and in order to maybe get somebody significant, you got to create the cap space, and you got to get the draft capital to go get somebody. And he pegged Adam Thielen as that guy. Adam hooked on a Thielen. And so he could be coming back to Minnesota, and then when Jordan Addison comes back. Oh, JJ's got weapons.
Thielen's from Minnesota, isn't he? Thielen is. He is Mr. Minnesota. Like that guy has been ice fishing since he was one.
I imagine. Which is my way of saying he's from Minnesota. You never ice fished, have you, Rich? I have. Where?
I don't remember. Minnesota. No, Mooch and Irv did that, actually. Ice fished? Yeah, they did that.
I have ice fished before. I've ice fished. I've panned for gold. I've done a lot. You panned for gold?
I did in Redding, California. You're a 49er? No, I panned for gold. I was up in, you know, Northern California. Did you get any?
I sure did. Is that how you made your wedding ring? Please. Which one? This is number three.
Yeah, this is number three. This is my third one. It keeps on falling off my hand. Listen, good stuff, Suze. Wait, wait.
No, no, no. We're not done. Yeah, she's not done. You have one more item? Paige Beckers, Rich.
We can't end without Paige Beckers. A season and career high 44 points. It's not enough, though. they did lose to the Sparks, but Sparks are on fire. The most in the league this year tied for 10th at all time.
She is so incredible.
So you cannot end a news segment without mentioning Paige Beckers. Thank you very, very much. Dropping 44. Brian Bosworth. Sick.
I would go Reggie Jackson.
Okay. I think, if I'm not mistaken, did I see Shamar Moore was there? And he was there? He showed up and she wanted him to come to a game? You went there?
No, you went. I know. But awesome. I mean, obviously, the win-loss record for her in her first year is not what we're looking for. But the L.A.
Sparks are on fire. We're going to the Sparks fever game next Friday for Taylor's birthday. Yeah, I mean, the Wings are trying to stay competitive, and they may not make it, but she's a shoe-in for Rookie of the Year. She's incredible. Although, Sonia Citron's been great, too.
So, I mean, we're seeing some great, great basketball at the next level. Fantastic. Of course, I was KP Kelsey Plum hitting that 12-foot jumper at the buzzer. Oh, she's so sick. To give the Sparks the win.
The Sparks have been ever since your favorite Cam Brink came back. You know? She is? She is your favorite. More than Rekia Jackson?
I didn't know I had a favorite, but sure. Oh, TJ just doesn't want to talk about it. You know who my favorite is. Great news update, Suze. Great news update.

This is The Rich Eisen Show. Hey folks, let me tell you that drinking and driving is a decision that will change your whole world. Things will never be the same once you get a DUI, because legal fees and time in court are just the beginning.
Getting into a crash is another way your world could be irreversibly changed after drinking and driving. Your vehicle may not be the only thing that gets damaged in that crash. You could face a life-altering injury or even death, but you're not the only one who could face those consequences. Your decision to drink and drive could permanently change someone else's world, whether you injured them or leave their loved ones grieving. The next time you're out drinking, call a rideshare, a taxi, a sober friend, or a designated sober driver.
Always plan for a safe ride home. The only decision that will change your world for the better is the decision to call for a sober ride. It is never worth it to drive drunk. Don't risk it. Drive sober or get pulled over.

Well, he's got 19.8 million Instagram followers and a hit television show and everything else going on in his world. And we appreciate joining us here on the Rich Eisen Show. One of the stars of Acapulco on Apple TV, Eugenio Derbez. Good to see you, sir. How are you?
I'm fine. Thank you. Thanks for having me. How's that for an introduction for you? That's amazing.
I mean, all is good in your neighborhood. Acapulco available again for streaming every Wednesday on Apple TV. You can check it out right here on Roku all season. One through three is available on Apple TV, the fourth and final season on the air. It's a fun show for you to do, obviously.
It's a very fun show. And let me tell you, when we started with this idea, first of all, I wanted to portray Mexico in a different way. I was like tired and fed up with watching how the entire world, the only things that they see about Mexico is all this bad news and talking about murders and drug lords and narcos. And honestly, Mexico is more than that.
So first of all, I wanted to portray Mexico in a different way. And I did a movie called How to Be a Latin Lover. and this is like the prequel it's slightly based in in the movie so uh and also um there aren't there aren't family series family friendly series right yeah every time i have an 11 year old and every time i want to watch something with her it's impossible because everything is about murders kidnapping, blood, sex, whatever. Dystopia. Exactly.
A lot going on there. And I grew up watching, you know, The Love Boat, The Adam Family. All that stuff that was for the entire family. And I was like, we should start going back and start producing series that is for the entire family. And this is a feeling good, family friendly series that you can watch with the entire family and you're going to enjoy it.
all of you and it's about acapulco the golden era of acapulco because i don't know if you know this but uh acapulco was the place to go in the 80s especially and they all the the all the hollywood starts the the royalty all around the world used to go to acapulco well um my parents who were married 53 years getting married in 1961 they honeymooned in acapulco yeah so that that's that was their choice to go to, you know, to Brooklynites going to Acapulco. And so that was the inspiration of you wanting to create this series. I mean, or did you get a script? How did you get started on Acapulco? Because we wanted to make a series after we did the movie, how to be a Latin lover.
Yes. That's a, that it's really funny. You should watch it too with Salma Hayek, Rob Lowe, Kristen Bell, Michael Cera. It's a great cast. It was really successful.
And then we came up with this idea of why not doing it like the series and doing the prequel. How did Maximo, my character, became a billionaire? And that's when we came out with this idea. We pitched it to Apple and they bought it. And off we go.
Eugenio Derbez is here on The Rich Eyes and Show Acapulco Season 4 and Final Season. available for streaming every Wednesday on Apple TV. Do you have a favorite soccer team, football team from Mexico? Yes. Yes.
I grew up, I was born and raised in Mexico City.
So I have a team that's called El Cruz Azul. Actually, if you Google Cruz Azul, you'll probably find me.
Okay. Because you're there, you're at this game? Because I'm a big supporter of Cruz Azul, and I did a very popular show in Mexico, and my character was a big fan of Cruz Azul. And every time they play, there's a lot of memes with my character.
So I'm like this with Cruz Azul. That's great. Did you ever try to play the sport yourself? I suck. honestly i love it i love it i love playing football i love it right and uh but i'm really bad so i say you you found acting instead congratulations that's worked out that's worked out for you uh any other sport that you follow anything uh i love tennis well paddle you know paddle tennis like like uh padel or yeah it it a new thing here but it a huge It was invented in Mexico Okay And it huge in Spain Argentina and many other countries Yeah Susie and I just went to we just came back from Spain and people were playing it all over the place Yeah, it's paddle tennis.
It's not pickleball. After you play paddle tennis, pickleball is like, are you kidding me? Because there's walls that you play the ball off of, right? Paddle tennis is amazing. If you can Google paddle tennis and see some clips, it's amazing.
I love it. Actually, I built a curtain in my house in Mexico when I was living there because I loved it. And you play with the balls. It's like tennis, but with walls around. Yeah, like the old racquetball meets pickleball meets tennis, is what you're saying.
Yeah, it's really fun. But you like tennis yourself. I like tennis, yeah.
Okay. Any specific player for tennis? Oh, my God. I love all of them. They're great.
Djokovic, Nadal, and lately, of course, Carlitos Alcaraz.
Okay. So now here's where I'm going with this one. Why not? You just mentioned Alcaraz. Yeah, true.
Yeah, yeah. He's a great player. Oh, my God. Am I missing something? No, you're about to hear it.
You're about to hear it. Susie is already hiding her head in her hands. Are you a big fan of Carlitos? Big time. Big time.
Good. I feel, though. And again. Oh, this is so dumb. Why is this dumb?
It's not dumb at all. I feel I could get a point off of Carlos Alcrest. One point. You think? In a 24-hour play?
Like 24-hour laments, like playing three. No, it doesn't have to be like a marathon. I would just say to him, I challenge you to a best of three, and I can get one point off of you. And just me even suggesting best of three, I'm already in his head. All right.
And then I step out there. He cannot lose a single point. And he won't lose a single point. Excuse me. Excuse me.
Don't you think a little pressure goes there? He can't double fault. He can't double fault once. And at one point, I could be able to just uncork a shot. Or as Marty Fish, professional tennis player, once told me, if I hit him on the fly with a serve, the point is mine.
Oh.
Well, with all those rules, maybe you can win a point. Thank you. Do not encourage. Do not feed the bear. This is ridiculous.
It's not ridiculous. What if I dinked my serve the entire time, and so he's now standing right on the edge of the box. That's a good strategy, probably. The one shot I actually practice in advance is the shot where they hit him with the serve. I like that.
I like that. See? It's a possibility. Thank you. It is a possibility.
Yeah. You know? And when are you planning doing this? Great question. I would pay for going to that game.
Don't you think? Absolutely. Are you good at tennis? I guess. You would think so, right?
Suze, you want to chime in here?
so it depends on who he's playing exactly you know what i mean like i'm really good when i play with my friends i'm terrible when i play with our 14 year old and i think this is something i'm going to make this happen okay i'm going to reach out to the tennis gods and see if there's any kind of exhibition thing because there's always something there's always something indian wellsy or something like that i i just think there's no upside for him i understand but that that's my my opinion of Carlos Alcaraz. I see, you know, I just see, I see an opportunity. Absolutely. Thank you. And nobody can tell me now.
I see an injury. Excuse me. This is a man who's already been established. He makes family-friendly entertainment. I think this is something you can watch with your 11-year-old.
Absolutely. I would love it. Even if you get injured, I would enjoy it, honestly. It's still a teachable moment, right? Honestly, after this speech, if you get injured, I wouldn't.
Thank you. I enjoy your darkness. Root for you. Ladies and gentlemen.
Okay, that's my take on Carlos Alcárez. Eugenio Derbez is here on the Rich Eisen Show. We've got a game called Celebrity True or False, where we ask you questions about your career.
Okay. And you tell us if what we're reading about you is true or false.
Okay. And we've got some outstanding production value to kick us off. Hit it, please.
Okay. Celebrity true or false. You can't handle the truth. All right, there we go. Eugenio Derbez is here on the Rich Eyes and Show.
You can call me Gene. Gene, okay. Gene. Gene, yeah. Gene is here.
Okay. True or false, you started acting at just 12 years old on a telenovela in Mexico. Is that true or false? What do you think? I'm going to say it's true.
It's true. It is true. Yeah. 12 years old. 12 years old.
Because my mom was a soap opera actress. She was like the queen of telenovelas.
so every time I had a day off and at school I I wanted to go there with a to her where she was shooting and I was always asking her can I be like a part of a whatever and in the line and an extra area in any place so I started acting really young and what what did you play as a 12 year old on this That role, when I was 12, for some reason, they were looking for a kid. And I looked very similar to the guy who was playing the older, I don't know, I even remember the story. You looked like a son or something like that? But they were like, hey, wait. They told my mom, wait, your son looks pretty much like the actor, so can we use him?
And I was like, yes, please. And I ended up in that telenovela when I was 12 years old.
Okay, very good.
So that's true. A second one up for you. True or false. You hold the record for the highest rating for a non-episodic TV program in the history of Mexican television. Is that true or false?
Was that true? Is it true? What do you think? I can't put anything past you. If you think I get a point off Carlos Alcaraz, I'll say this is true.
True. It is true. Yes. Which show is this? It's a show called Al Derecho y Al Derbez.
I'm playing with my last name.
Okay. And it's a comedy show, like a sketch show, like Saturday Night Live kind of.
Okay. And I broke all the records in television in, I don't even remember the year, but I had a huge 41 points of rating back then. Is there a competition within your household, I should ask, about, you know, ratings in television history, anything like sort of thing? Because if your mom started, it was as big as she is. That's a good question.
I mean, she passed away already, but her telenovelas would stop the entire country.
So I'm not sure. I never asked her about the ratings of her telenovelas, but I'm sure probably she might beat me because she was huge. That's how big. And back then, you know, people, they just watch open TV.
So there were not a lot of options.
So probably she might win.
Okay, Gene, number three on this list, Coda. What a beautiful film. Yeah. Academy Award winner. The budget for Coda was so small, in the independent film, you bought your own wardrobe for your scenes.
Is that true or false? That's true. That's true. That's true. But it was because when we were designing the character, the director, Sean Heather, she was telling me, I think you should have like a story where you probably were a rock star in Latin America.
Yes. And we don't see this in the story. But to build my character, she was telling me, imagine that you were a big, like a Paul McCartney, but in Latin America. And then you try to do the crossover to the U.S. and you fail.
So you get depressed and you decide to retire from music. And now you're teaching in a small school in Boston.
So I wanted to be like a rock star, kind of. And when I asked the wardrobe lady, hey, do you have something more like different? And she was like, no, we didn't have budget for that. And I was like, OK, I'll buy my own stuff. And I bought my own stuff.
and that's what you wore in the film what you see yeah i i wore my own wardrobe did you know when you were shooting that that this had oscar dust on it at all not at all not at all kidding no actually i mean i could have asked for a uh producer credit if i'm putting my own wardrobe i should have asked and now i would have won an oscar you could have gone up on the stage which I'm sure you did anyway. But I mean, what a beautiful night that must have been for you, right? It was amazing. I mean, we never expected to win because we were competing against a lot of big movies with big names. Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Meryl Streep, Jared Leto.
Many, many, many big names that year, especially. Will Smith. That was the year of the slap. Oh, yeah. Were you in the...
I was there.
Okay. I saw it firsthand. And... What are you thinking? It was crazy because I remember we all, the entire theater, same as probably the audience in their homes, we thought it was planned.
It was a joke. but after it happened and everyone was laughing and then we he started like you know like uh saying crazy stuff and everyone was like hmm wait is this real or not and then they went to commercials and then we saw danzel washington approaching will smith and taking him to another corner and then someone that was around there he told us that they were discussing he was telling well you know what you should go and apologize because there's no way that a guy like you slap another comedian in front of the entire world and they were this and that's when we realized it was real when denzel washington approaches will smith during a break a commercial break and uh and And then the gossiping was like all around and people was texting me, not about Coda, but about the slap. Wow.
So it was a great, great ceremony, but it was a little bit like a shadowed by the slap.
So how about that? A few minutes left for you, Gene Durban. Very good. A few more for you. For the movie Dora and the Lost City of Gold, you literally had to hold your breath for two minutes under the water for a scene in that film.
Yes, true. And are you equipped as a swimmer for such a thing? No, no, no. They trained us like for two weeks in a row. Yeah.
And I never expected because I couldn't hold my breath more than 40 seconds. And that's a lot.
So there's no way I can do that. And then they said, well, we're going to train you. And I was like, you can train whatever you want, but I'm not going to get it. Right. And after two weeks of training us, we all, all the actors, we got more than two minutes underwater.
It was incredible because the training is more mental than physical. It's more in your head. Of course.
So they explain to you what's going on in your body. What are you going to feel? Everything. And it's very, very interesting. and now I'm teaching all my friends because they know the story and they are, now teach me.
I want to hold my breath for two minutes.
So there's a very interesting technique.
Okay. I did not know any of that. Two more. Last year, true or false, you scored 19% in a poll for the presidential race in Mexico. True.
That's true. Wow.
One fifth of the electorate wanted you to run the country. Yes. What did you think of when you heard that? I, you know, ego. Ego's a big thing because immediately they were like, wow, I can be president.
Probably I should run for president. But then after talking with my family, because there was a big chance, a lot of people, political parties approached me because they wanted to see I was able to run for president. And, but then I decided that it's not good. I a comedian I a funny guy I don wanna get involved in all those So was the president of Ukraine at one point i know someone told me that and i was like that why it was more like taking it like as a serious thing because you never know yeah but i'm i'm not good at it i'm just uh you're just an actor and a comedian yeah okay last one for you true this one i i saw this i can't wait to get the answer here true or false you are the voice for jim carrey and eddie murphy when their movies are dubbed for Latin America releases. Is that true?
That's true. Wow.
How did this come about? If you have a DVD of Shrek, for example, I'm Donkey's Voice in Spanish for all Latin America. And for some reason, they allowed me, and this was first time ever, they allowed me to adapt the script into the Mexican culture.
Okay. So the script in Spanish is kind of different. It respects the core, but I adapted all the jokes to the Mexican culture.
Well, not the Mexican, because I knew it was for all Latin America. Let's say for the Latin culture in general.
So it was very successful because it felt like original. And for some reason, I feel like the donkey, it's more Mexican than American.
So... The burro? El burro. And until today, a lot of people are constantly asking, can you record a message for my kid with the donkey's voice?
So... That's how I speak in Spanish. And what about Jim Carrey? How does he sound?
Well, Jim Carrey, I just did Yes Man. Just one movie. Yes Man. Yeah. But for some reason, I've been dubbing Eddie Murphy in a lot of films, not just Shrek, but Dr.
The Little Mushu. I'm Mushu for Mulan. Mulan in Spanish.
So I'm basically Eddie Murphy's voice in Spanish. Have you met Eddie? Have you ever come cross paths with him? Never once? Yes.
Once. Uh-oh. Did I just step on something here? I met him in Cannes.
Okay. At the Cannes Film Festival in 2002 when we were launching Shrek 2.
Okay. And he was there because he was donkey's voice. And they brought the most important donkeys around the world. The Mexican donkey, the German donkey, the Russian donkey. The United Nation of donkeys.
Exactly. Sure. So I met him there and I was like very excited. I was like, Mr. Murphy, I'm Eugenio Derbez.
I think he was like, you know, busy and worried or whatever. But I was like very excited. I was like, Mr. Murphy, I'm Eugenio Derbez. I'm basically you in Spanish.
I've dubbed Mulan, Dr. DeLittle, Shrek, everything.
So I'm basically you in Spanish. And he was like. I think he left. The thumbs up and left. That's it.
That's my story with Eddie Murphy. But he's a nice guy.
Okay. At least he didn't slap you. Exactly. Hey, congrats on everything in your life and your career and what you've become and who you are globally and what's going on, especially with Acapulco on Apple TV. I was talking before about how great the shows are on Apple TV.
We were watching Friends and Neighbors and Shrinking. And, you know, obviously the studio in Acapulco fits right into this whole morning show as well. You're watching the latest season of that as well. She's locked in on that. And this is like the Ted Lasso vibe.

Restrictions apply. what was it like shooting that scene though with ray cancilla and his father i mean how many how how long that well we had to do that these could you notice that we did that at magic hour you also notice that when that shot pulled back and you saw all those cars you know now but that would have been cg'd but that was technically uh that was all extras that we called on the radio come be in our movie and they created that big traffic jam.
Hold on a second.
So that traffic jam, that's a real, that's a real shot. And the people from Iowa came. And so, so many people feel like they were part of that movie.
So those thousands and thousands of cars that were in that giant traffic jam that went out on those two lanes, that was real. But in terms of playing it, in terms of, as you said, the quiet moment, how did you work that Kevin?
Well, I, you know, when it did, what I did was I went back to when I first read it. And so I become the audience when I read it. And when I read it, I went, I couldn't believe that it had orchestrated itself to that thing. And I had that feeling on the couch. And so I knew if I played that straight, if I didn't wink at anybody, that these players did come, you know, that's my corn.
You know, Phil Robinson is the architect of that movie. You know, I tell a story, you know, and I don't tell it a lot of them, but, you know, they kept coming after me. I wasn't going to be able to do that movie. I was going to do revenge and I got into a finally that revenge kept getting pushed kept getting pushed and finally I had to put my foot down and say look uh if you don't get this movie together I'm gonna go to do this movie in the corn I asked the director why did you hold out for me so long why and he said well and this is one of the greatest actors we've ever seen he goes they wanted me to do Robin Williams and I said I said Robin Williams is perfect he said yeah but when I think of Robin but I think he does hear voices in the corn. And I don't want that.
People don't believe you hear voices. And that was a really interesting, that's a director that makes a save. That's a Mariano Rivera, you know? It's a save. He saved his movie because of his belief in an idea, you know, not the quality of actor, because Robin Williams will never, this is a guy so special.
but I was curious. I said, he's actually a bigger star than me. You know, whatever. And he goes, I need somebody that you don't think hears voices. And that would be you.
I've never heard Robin Williams was considered for that role. That's unbelievable. And then you did it, and obviously we're talking about it today. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It had gold dust on it when I read it because I did that little intake of breath.
Do you want to have a catch? and of course I wept myself. All of Kevin Costner's appearances youtube.com slash richeyesenshow you can check that out especially him talking about a film that doesn't even make the top 25 sports movie lists as seen by a panel of critics at Hollywood Reporter. Ridiculous. That's insanity.
Field of Dreams is not on it but Bring It On is. I mean, please. It's already been brought in. honestly I'm gobsmacked by yeah Field of Dreams is not on that what a movie that is Will Durham's top five though yeah I mean that's deserved right of course you could argue that Ron has three four of the best sports movies of all time top ten you could absolutely well that's crazy as well what are you gonna do except bitch about it Rini in Seminole, Florida. That's the final phone line there.
What's up, Rini? Hi, Rich. It is an honor and a pleasure to speak with you. Thank you. What's going on in Seminole, Florida?
It's very, very hot. But being on the west coast of Florida here on the Gulf of Mexico is gorgeous. Love it. But my husband and I are diehard fans of yours. Thank you.
And when we hear something on whatever sports show we might be watching or watching the local news, we'll look at each other and go, well, did Rich Eisen verify that? Is it true? Did it come out of Rich's mouth? I like you folks. I like him.
We follow you. You had me in a low. We love to listen to you. Thank you. What's on your mind today?
I called for the Remember the Titans movie that should have been on the top 10 list in my own personal opinion. Yes, of course. We are Remember the Titans, my husband and I. What do you mean? He played on the football team, the 71 original Titans, and portrayed in the movie.
and we graduated in 1973 from T.C. Williams High School. Wow.
But the movie was from the 71.
So he was a junior that year and played on that awesome, awesome football team.
So we're offended from a cinematic point of view. You're just offended from a personal point of view that that film is not on the list. attended every game from my sophomore year at T.C. Williams through my senior year. And everyone lived and breathed the Titans.
And the stands were packed. And the fight song when they would score, it was so cool living that and then seeing it in a movie. That's so great. Rini, thanks for the call. Call back soon.
Say hi to your husband for me. You sound like very smart people. Thank you very much. Will do. I guess we now need to rename the movie Disrespect the Titans.
Forget the Titans. Overlook the Titans. I think we made our point. My old roommate Spider went to T.C. Williams.
And Spider, did he dance that drink over? He did not.
Okay, very good.
That'll wrap it up for this show, Suze. Thank you so much. Hey, Suze. We'll back to wrap it on Roku in a sec. Donkey!
Hey, folks. Let me tell you that drinking and driving is a decision that will change your whole world. Things will never be the same once you get a DUI, because legal fees and time in court are just the beginning. Getting into a crash is another way your world could be irreversibly changed after drinking and driving. Your vehicle may not be the only thing that gets damaged in that crash.
You could face a life-altering injury or even death, but you're not the only one who could face those consequences. your decision to drink and drive could permanently change someone else's world whether you injured them or leave their loved ones grieving.
Paid for by NHTSA.
