Hey, yo. It's me, it's me, it's the TOO, J-I-G-G2G. to TJ Jefferson and uh You know, I might be the new tribal thief today, Shay. Cut these kids from UCLA slipping. You know what I'm saying?

Good. Good. I thought you were doing it out of disrespect.

Now that I know that you robbed somebody, I like it.

So these kids were talking trash on social media about something we said.

So caught them slipping and had to remove them. of the shoes. I like that, man. It was just some Westwood creeping. Yeah.

Yeah. You know what I mean? You know what I mean? You know what I mean? But yes.

So, TJ. But I want to trigger you with this. Yeah, you know how I get. I know how to get to Twitching, bro. I saw you.

Get to Twitching, bro. Fight on. Fight on. And we got a Trojan on later today. Yeah.

Yeah, man. Callie Armstrong from Evolve, the Evolve Women's Champion. First ever. Evolved Women's Champion will be joining us today on the No Contest Wrestling Podcast. And she is.

Born and bred, Los Angeles. Inglewood. Inglewood. 12. We left right now, we'd be in Inglewood in 12 minutes.

Yeah, man. Always up to no good. Always. Unless, you know, it's on Evolve.

So, Callie Armstrong will be joining us today.

Some stuff has been going on.

Some stuff has been going on in WWE. Um obviously They keep stilling. My tribal chief shoes. What is happening? And like, I just want to just speak on this.

Why didn't you get the shoes back? At Somerset, when you won. Right. Why are you letting him do this to you?

Alright, he on online cracking jokes. They call him the tribal thief. They call it the shulafala. Bro, I mean, it's a little For a top star? To be getting jacked like that?

Took my man's shoes off his feet not once, but twice, but twice, and this just ain't no regular cat. He's first of all, he's taking the tribal chief shoes, yeah, and it's not like you can wear them. Man wears like a 15, 16, bro. And so, like, as much as I love Bronson Reed.

Somebody got to stop this dude.

Somebody got to stop. Because, like, it's just, it's just getting to a point where. I'm starting to get beat up online. Saw how they had your boy. I mean, is this the way for them to make Roman wrestle barefoot eventually?

Like, he goes right out of the shoes? I know you're about to play Akuma in Street Fighter, but you don't have to be barefoot when you fight. This is insane, man. Yeah, I know every time that happens, a piece of your heart just. Yeah, because I look ridiculous.

Do you know how cold that ramp is on them socks? After you've been fighting, your feet are sweaty and well. Got to take that cold walk to the back. Oh, because you got tsunami. They got your shoes.

Yep, and you know, he's going to be at a. They've announced him, they've showcased him for. Clash in Paris. Also, I got a bone to pick with whoever's doing the graphics. How is the Eiffel Tower not the A in Clash in Paris?

They got it to the side. He was right there. He was right.

Sometimes the most obvious things aren't so obvious, I guess. Yeah, and then somebody also pointed out: it's kind of funny. Um At the bottom where it's supposed to say August thirty first. It says august thirty first.

Okay. Are you sure? Are you sure? Positive. You zoomed in on it?

Positive. August 31st.

So that's what we're going to say from now on. Is Mike Tyson? Like, is he announcing?

Somebody blamed Cody. See? Speaking of Cody, speaking of Cody, you got him, and it looks like him and Drew McIntyre are going to be. Yeah, Drew does great in these international shows. He's the man.

Yeah, man. We got to get him on. Yeah, Drew definitely, you know, as we said before, you and I, we got to kick it with Drew a little bit. Drew's the man. After WrestleMania.

Uh I didn't like my conversation with Drew and here's why. Normally I'm used to being the taller person whenever I speak to somebody. Yeah. Drew McIntyre was hovering above me.

Okay. And he's definitely taller, he's wider. And he just made me feel like a little dude. And I'm not a little dude. No.

And it got to the point where, like, he said something to me, which I will share, but it was really funny. You know, those things where, like, you kind of shove somebody, you know how we laugh at it. And I pushed him in the chest, and I was like, Okay. This dude ain't going nowhere, man. He's one of them people that when you meet him in person, you're like, yep.

Yeah. He can win whatever he wants. Yep. The legit 6'5. Yeah.

Man's like 270 and just, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, I mean, shout out to Drew. Shout out to Drew.

And also, there's a. little news that are uh you know, is a little upsetting. Uh It seems on social media at least That. Carrion Cross and Scarlett have not been brought back. They both put out tweets with their booking information.

Yeah, man. And. You know how fans are. They do not like it right now. No, especially when they've decided that you're their person or their people and we decide to cheer for you and try to uplift you and get you that push and it doesn't happen.

People are gonna revolt a little bit. Yeah. And that just shows, you know, it's gotta make you feel good as a superstar, but also. Just remind everybody that no matter where Stars end up. You can find them.

You can find them. You can still support. And at the end of the day, In any form of entertainment, fan support is all you got. Yep. Fan support is all you got to keep the lights on and all those sort of things.

But I got to tell you, TJ, because I got to keep it real. I don't believe shit. I don't believe nothing no more. And that's what wrestling does. And now that they've gotten.

They brought that element back that I can't trust. Seth broke. Nothing. Seth. John Cena?

I saw that the Chicago Bears lost in preseason. Love that for you. Love that for you, Seth. Congratulations. But yeah, man, I don't know.

I don't know. I don't feel comfortable letting my heart believe this again. I think this is the real deal, though, man. I don't really see where anything would be. Yeah, I'll see what Some of the other things would have been gained by Lying or being, you know, untrue, but I this is something that happens, and you know, we've known for months that his contract, their contract.

was up and it seems though it didn't get you know resigned or not coming back i i i believe this Listen, bro, until I see him shaking hands with Tommy Dreamer or on a damn collision, I can't. And that's the thing. That is why we watch right there because you just don't know. You don't know what is when you're being worked or anything. And that element, Britt, coming back, is why you got to watch.

You have to watch every week. And it is the trap we fall in as wrestling fans. And they got me. Yeah. They got me because I don't trust nothing.

Nobody say nowhere. No. You mess this whole man up right here. Yeah, man. He don't believe in me.

I look sick. Damn.

Well, look, man, we got a great show today. We got a special guest that we're coming up. Like we said, Callie Armstrong from Evolve. And also, what we decided to do this week was, you know, a few weeks ago, Before she cashed in the money in the bank contract and became the new women's world champion, we had an interview with Naomi, which was unfortunately cut short because of a power outage in the whole city of El Segundo. We sat on it for a while hoping, well, maybe we'll be able to get her back.

But you know, she's the champ now. She got a lot. She's busy. We don't know when we're going to be able to get her again.

So, you know, people have been asking on Twitter, on Instagram about it.

So, what we're going to do is we're going to attach the 20-minute interview that we did have with Naomi to this episode just to get it out there because she was amazing. You know, she talked about. Her uh How she got into wrestling. She talked about Total Divas, you know, her beginning journey.

So, yeah, we didn't get a full interview with her, but we wanted to at least put out what we did have because we know there's a lot of Naomi fans who can't get enough of her. right now. Yeah, and if we didn't let it out, we better proceed with Caution. See what I did there. But first.

Let's get to the interview. Let's get to the interview with Kelly Armstrong. Let's not keep the lady waiting. T. J.

Our next guest is from the city of champions.

So it only makes sense for her to grace the No Contest Wrestling podcast with gold as the first ever Evolved Women's Champion. This former USC Trojan has gone from running and setting world records in track and field to running the WWE Evolved Women's Division. You could say it was her destiny to be Callie Armstrong. Welcome to the Pond. Oh yeah.

Thank you. And then she literally had to flex on us right there and just a little bit. Just a little bit. Make her realize I need to do more curls or something. First of all, fight on.

As we were saying earlier, flying on forever. It's my first SC Trojan. I know, I knew you'd be excited. Yeah, man. I'm really happy about that.

Flying on forever. Forever. They really pump that into you during orientation. It's like you're a Trojan for life. For life.

I mean, it's a pretty successful place right there. That Trojan Family Network is real. Yeah. It's not a bad team to be a part of. No.

Not at all. But right now. Part of a new team. You know, you've taken your talents to the WWE. You've chosen this new path into professional wrestling, sports entertainment.

So take us a little bit on like, where did you get bit by that bug? When did you go on this new journey? This journey was totally random for me, honestly. Like you said, I ran track at the University of Southern California. I became a three-time NCAA All-American.

Three-time. Three-time. Three-time. Then I ran track professionally for about three, four years. I became a world record holder in the Sprint Medley Relay.

Then eventually everything come to an end. I decided to stop running. And I was working a nine-to-five at Torrance Transit doing marketing. But I always just felt like I'm still an athlete. Like I didn't feel like it was my time to work at nine to five.

I felt like I still wanted to be an athlete. I just didn't know how. And I'm friends with the rapper Wally. And at that time, he was doing like Wally Mania and things like that.

So when he'd see me post, he'd be like, man, I really could see you doing like WWE being a wrestler. And I was like, God. I never really thought of that.

So I kind of like brushed it off. It didn't really seem like something you could become for real. It just seemed like something cool to watch. And mentioned it like another time or two. And after that, I was like, all right, let me really look into this.

So I looked into it, I started reaching out to a few people. I got a tryout. The tryout was maybe like 50, 60 people. Out of those 50, 60 people, they chose two women, and I was one of those two. And I ain't looked back yet.

Right? Hey, that's a solid going 50-60, and they only picked two women, right? And you wanted the two, you definitely. shine in the in that tryout can you tell us when your uh Welcome to Wrestling Moment Was. Welcome to a wrestling moment.

You know, we've had people tell us either bumps that they took or like, you know, somewhere else. Oh, okay, this is my new job. I feel like honestly, it was like day one of training. Like, one, I lived in LA my whole life, born and raised. I moved out here by myself for this opportunity doing something that I never imagined doing.

I ran track. We stay in our lane. I don't understand. You over there. The most we touching is the baton exchange.

Right. Day of practice here, we bumping, we locking up, we getting thrown, we getting hit. I'm like, whoa, like I didn't come from a physical sport. This was a totally different experience for me.

So that first day of practice, I was like, okay, this is what we doing. All right.

Now, Callie, your name kind of makes sense. Callie, you're from California. You grew up in Englewood. We're in El Segundo.

So we're not close. We're not far, rather. You probably. We probably drove by you at some point in the city and didn't even know it. You know what I mean?

Like, I'm close to Inglewood, so I, you know, we may have been at the same routes together at some point. Very much could have.

Now, you, you from a big family, you got five brothers, two sisters, correct? Yep. What was that like? First of all, were you in order? Out of all your brothers and sisters?

And what was it like having to? Because seven kids, I knew y'all were just mixing it up all the time. Oh man, it was never a dull moment. I have a younger brother and a younger sister. The rest were older.

I have pretty much all the guys are like right above me and then one right below me.

So I was just born, raised with. All the boys, like my older sister is older, and my younger sister is a little bit younger than me.

So, when it came to being raised, I was raised really with like all my brothers.

So, anywhere they went, I wanted to go. Anything they're doing with their friends, I wanted to do.

So, we're in the middle of the street playing football or playing basketball. They're picking me first in races, you know.

So, everything I did growing up was centered around my brothers and what they're doing. And it used to make me so mad because I felt like I was one of them. But when they go like spend a night at their friend's house, I couldn't go. Like, we all bros at this point. Why can't go, you know?

So, growing up, I understood why now, but younger, I was so mad. Why can't he go to Tyrone's house and I can't? Like, no, your mom, because baby, we don't know them people, we can't have you go over there, but I definitely grew up as a tomboy because I was always with my brothers and stuff. Um, so. Going throughout running track and even coming to WWE, being around more women and stuff like that, has definitely helped me find my more feminine side.

Cause growing up, I was definitely a little tomboy.

So, do you think the physicality came from your brother's? playing with you on the court i'm sure they didn't let up on you I'm sure they probably gave it to you. Yeah, definitely. The physicality came natural for me because, you know, like I said, we'd be playing basketball, we play football. They're not taking it easy on me because I'm a girl.

You know, my brothers always had boxing gloves.

So they throw on the gloves. Anytime you talk and mess, throw on the gloves.

Okay, I put them on. That was the first time I ever got the wind knocked out of me because they really ain't in there.

So I know to watch my mouth, or he's going to say, throw on the gloves. Which probably made her a problem for the other girls in the neighborhood, too, right? Don't, don't, don't go over there. They talking mess, they're going to throw on the gloves. Throw on the gloves.

Are any of your other brothers or sisters that they get into athletics as well? Yeah, one of my brothers was into track. Another one played football and another one played baseball. My little sister wanted to follow into my footsteps.

So she played basketball at Inglewood because I went to Inglewood High School first.

So she played basketball there and then she ended up going to Westchester like me as well. And she played basketball there as well for a little bit.

So I said pretty much everybody in my family played some type of sport, but I was the only one who went to college or took it any further than that. But Now I hear, you know, see the Inglewood. You went to SC. I can't help but notice on NXT, you just happen to have on purple and gold. Yeah.

Please tell me you're a Laker fan. I'm a Laker fan. That's what I'm talking about, TJ. The My Lakers, Kobe for Life. Kobe for Life.

a clipper fan ain't that weird what a freak oh that's very weird that's like picking ucla over uscross yeah man i i never had a problem with ucla like i was always like yo shout out you know ucla bro as soon as i got that scene why would you do that yeah fuck law food all day bro it's also a double meaning also because my middle name is omega and once any of the guys hear that my middle name is omega they're like q dogs and stuff they just are so i'm just used to all the cue dogs like loving me and stuff like that so i'm like purple and gold paying them watch yeah all right that makes sense hard yeah Shaq had it so good. Oh, don't tell Shaq. He'll start barking. We're going to do whatever we can to bring Lombardi back here to Western New York. Catch Hard Knocks, training camp with the Buffalo Bills on HBO Max. Then watch or listen to the Hard Knocks podcast, wherever you get your podcasts. You talked about how you know you didn't come from a sport that was a physical sport, but then you grew up with your brothers and yeah, you know, you definitely bring the physicality in the ring. There is there is no way around that.

I think my question would be: who in the locker room in the back has been. one of your strongest allies. I saw you work with Natalia. We already know what she's done for the Women's Division over in WWE.

So who is that list of allies for Callie Armstrong? To be honest, everybody here has been like so instrumental to me. Like, they've all been so uplifting. And I know me being new is kind of. You're not really sure who to talk to, who to, but a lot of them just come up to me and just give me the free game.

You know, when I got here, I wasn't really sure how to channel that aggression and stuff. And Jada Parker has come up to me multiple times, like, yeah, you got to do it like this or you got to do this, you know, just very uplifting and helping me out a lot. Jamara Jakara, when she was here, she was. always coming to me telling me different things helping me out lash just watching her lash out and how she's so aggressive and lay it in you know so many of the females in the locker room that are so instrumental being able to work with people like natalia the bow who's been here for so many years gave me so much game in that short stint of time that i was communicating with her and things like that but A lot of so many people here have been so awesome to me, and it's really why I'm developing the way that I am right now.

Now There is somebody else and and That was a former track and field star that I know everybody's kind of waiting to see you guys, you know, going at it. Have you had any contact with a friend of the show, Bianca Belair, at all? Yeah, so Bianca comes up here to the performance center every now and then to rather do some training or some rehab.

So we always have a little short conversation, but it's always in passing because, you know, she's either putting together a match or busy. Everyone's busy.

So we haven't really had a chance to really connect like that. But anytime we see each other, it's always love. We always say hi, but not anything serious just yet. But I'm definitely excited for that opportunity, that moment when we both get some more time.

Now, I got a question down the line, TJ, but I need that. I mean, go ahead.

Now you got me thinking. I need that.

So, Callie, am I right?

So, growing up, you weren't, were you a wrestling fan, or were you not a wrestling fan? Yeah, growing up, I was a wrestling fan when we were young, like the elementary school. Vivid memories was my brothers doing Rakeshi booties on my face. I'm like, what are you doing? I was being tortured a lot, you know, doing a peek of goblet off the top of the bunk bed, you know.

I definitely was a wrestling fan. I remember being terrified whenever the lights went out and Undertaker came out, you know, like he was the scariest wrestler ever.

So I was definitely a wrestling fan growing up. I think, like, most people, there's a period of time, I don't know if it's like high school where you kind of get like too cool for school and then you just like. Watching it anymore, and then you pick it back up eventually.

So, I think that was my path. But growing up, I definitely loved wrestling.

Well, uh l now going into that We talked about some of the women that you you talked to down there and you picked their brain, but Now that you're actually in the ring, are the wrestlers that you watch video old matches of and you try to draw inspiration from? Yeah, definitely. I say the main one has been jazz. Like I say, when I came here, I knew I had aggression in me, but I didn't know how to like show it or bring it out. And once I started like wrestling and doing local matches here within the PC, a lot of people would mention jazz, jazz, jazz.

So I started looking at some of her things and I'm like, dang, I can see it.

So I watched a lot of her matches and see how she laid in and even how she like just walked to the ring. And before the other opponent even came out, she locked in. She ready, you know.

So a lot of like my mannerisms or a lot of like my aggression, I definitely channeled from watching some jazz film. That's what's up.

Now, a question that we we like to ask you know, to anybody who grew up watching wrestling. Is there any time and point as a fan where wrestling broke your heart? My example that I use all the time is I hated Watching Hulk Hogan run the rock over in an ambulance. As a kid, I was just like, I hate Hulk Hogan. You know, this is like the worst thing ever.

Is there a time that you can remember where?

Something you watched just didn't feel good. When did wrestling break your heart? Um, for that, that for me would be most recently with this John Cena Hill turn. With the rest of the world, we were all like, no, because John Cena was my favorite growing up. You know, the knuckle shuffle, you know, like all that was us growing up, you know.

So seeing that hill turn, we're all like. Yeah. Definitely broke my heart. I know he's trying to be baby again. I'm not fully buying it.

I don't know how to feel about that, but yeah, that one definitely broke my heart. Yeah, it broke a lot of people's hearts. Yeah, my brother Sharif didn't like that at all.

Well, it looks like he came back. I don't think he's trying to pull. At first, I thought he was trying to pull one over on us. But then once the beast came out and attacked him, I think they did the hill turn just to say it happened. But much like you guys, you're too young for this, Callie, but there was a TV show called Dallas back in the day, right?

Dang. About an oil family down in Texas. And I don't. Really, I don't know what the story was because I'm just now thinking of it, but one of the main characters. They killed him off.

He was one of the brothers, one of the main characters. They went a whole season without him. And I guess it may have been like a contract problem or something. But the backlash was so great. That the end of that season.

They basically showed him in the shower. His wife went to the bathroom and he was in the shower, and they pretended like the whole season was a dream. Uh And it didn't happen. And this is a seat. This is like a network show because I guess people are just like, no, Bobby, Bobby's dead, we ain't with it.

So the whole season was just chucked up as, oh, no, this was just a dream. I kind of feel like maybe that's what they want to happen with the scene the hill turn. We did it. Yeah. Just so you can shut up and we're going to forget it ever happened.

Yeah, that moment is forever, though. Yeah, true. Yeah, I'm just tired of people playing with my emotions. I'm going to keep my emotions like he a heel because if he turns again after I believed he wasn't, my emotions are going to be all over the place. Just like Seth Rollins, you know, he came on here on the Rich Eisen show where I work.

He, we were part of that ruse, you know, he playing with people's emotions. He came out. Kelly, he came in. He had the brace on. He hosted the show for two days.

He was hobbling around like, you know. Like an old man, and then he pulled the wool. He's just a liar. Yeah, he held the door open for him. Yeah, I wouldn't grab his crutches for him and gave it to him so he wouldn't have to struggle.

I fell for the okie-dope. Playing with our emotions, man. All right.

Now, what has been. It's a two-parter. What's been the best thing about this new journey? And also, a lot of times, People just associate the physicality and the physical sacrifice that you guys go through, but. You know, there's also a mental side, either being away from home or anything.

So, like, what's the, what has been the best thing about this journey? And what has been the toughest thing about this new journey? I'd say the best thing about this journey is the growth I felt like I've experienced. Like I say, I lived in LA my whole life. I moved all the way over here by myself.

And it was scary at first, but then seeing how much I grew and developed and met new people, got outside my comfort zone, and all those types of things definitely helped so much. And I feel like it's helped me become a better human being.

So I definitely feel like that's one of the better things that's come out of this. And I think the hardest thing really is like. It's not many times in your life. that you get paid To do something that you have never done. Never went to school for, never even imagined doing, you know.

So it's like, I'm, I am now employed to do something that I don't know how to do.

So it's like so much stress to learn to do this well, or you're, you're, you know, your job is on the line, you know.

So I think that's just a crazy situation that I was put into. Luckily, I swam and didn't sink. But it definitely could have sunk and it could have went really bad, but. I think that was definitely mentally hard for me to grasp. Like, this is my career.

But you don't know how to do it. Yeah, that makes sense.

So that's a 3,000-mile move away from home, away from everything that you're comfortable with. And so, yeah, I mean, that alone, you know, that's a huge step. I had to do that myself. I was a little bit older. I wasn't as young as she is when I made the move, but it's still moving from.

Pennsylvania to LA when you're by yourself, hitting restart. Yeah, just, you know, I mean, you get a chance to maybe even reinvent yourself a little bit, but at the same point, you know, you have no, no comfort level. And so, yeah, it's more so like you're forced to reinvent yourself instead of just doing it at your own pace whenever you feel like it. Like you have to reinvent yourself because no one here knows you. You know, you had an image to uphold where you were from, where you were born.

Here, you're starting brand new. No one knows who you are, which is a great opportunity. You could, you know, rebrand in a better sense if you didn't really have the best reputation there. But it's a real test when you're meeting brand new people. If you were awesome back home, are you really awesome?

Or did you just grow up who already knew you? That's a good question. You apply pressure to yourself. Yep. Pressure makes diamonds.

You see, TJ, us Kobe fans, we work better in the fourth quarter. All right.

So when the game is on the line, that's when we are our best. I see you. I see you. That's true. Don't do that face.

Anyway. Don't do that face. We know much about that. You know, the Kawhi Leonards, we let them down and stuff. It's okay.

It's okay. Yeah, man. I like Callie. Callie around. I'm the one who's been following you on Instagram all this time.

I've been the one who's liking all the projects. We've been following each other on Twitter. And you're going to do me like that? Like, I was the one who's been putting her in her Instagram stories all the time. TJ, please, we're doing an interview.

I'm hurt. I'm hurt. That's all I'm saying.

Now, Callie, you know, you talked about the move that you had to do. And, you know, you've been in L.A., born and raised. But you also been around the world in aye, aye, aye. You've been to Mexico, Brazil, Greece, Indonesia, Dubai.

So you are well traveled. Of all the places you've been, which place has stuck to you the most and why you think that is? To be honest, Greece was amazing.

So we went to Athens, we went to Mykonos, we went to Santorini, and they all offered different things. But what was so fun about Greece was at. We went to Different restaurants, different bars, and literally everybody was dancing. Like, I feel like here in the States, if you go to clubs and stuff, people are on the wall or just looking at everyone else. When I tell you, out there, everybody was dancing.

Rather, you're old, tall, short. They were standing on dinner tables. There's a tradition in Greece where they have like the plates and they break it and they dance on it. They gave us all plates and throwing it on the ground and just dancing on it. Like, it was just so much fun.

So carefree. You didn't have to worry about who's looking at me dance because they dancing too. It was just so much fun to where everybody was just enjoying life together.

So in October of 23, you got signed with WWE and you started off in NXT. Mm. When did the move to evolve? come and and what did they how did they sell you on this Yeah, so Evolve was a brand that was around a long time ago, but it collapsed. And this is the revamp of it.

So, as soon as they revamped it, they let us all know: hey, we got this new show. They had a bunch of us join it. And I was super excited because I'm like, this is a great opportunity to get my name out there, to get some more reps, because a lot of times I feel like it could be tough. Joining NXT when you don't have a name, you know, no one wants to come out in the crowds like, who's this person? You know, never seen you before.

You know, so now once I do join NXT, they will know who I am because they have seen me before.

So I feel like it's a great pathway to getting to the next level. And how'd it feel when you found out that that title that's sitting there to your left, I believe, or backwards, but I believe it's to your left? When did you? Find that out and what did it feel like? to hear that you're going to be the first champion.

Yeah, it was surreal to me because we knew for maybe a month or so that there was going to be a championship. And then leading up to that, I found out that I was going to be a part of the championship along with three other girls. And I didn't find out till the day before that I was going to be the champion. I was like, what? Little girl from Inglewood, California, who moved out here by herself, knew nothing about this, is about to be a champion and hold the whole weight of the division on her shoulders.

Like it was so surreal, but I was so excited and ecstatic and honored to hold this title. Can we see that? Can we see the belt real quick? Absolutely. This is honestly, in my opinion.

One of the best titles, it really is. That's a beautiful in the entire WWE. The first one. We always remember the first one. You know, you remember the first intercontinental champion was Pat Patterson.

The first world champion was Buddy Rogers, and the first Evolved women's champion, Callie Arms. Callie Arms. That's pretty dope. My name is in the history books. I'm making history.

Now, um What How do I word this, TJ? Because the whole point of this, Callie, is we see superstars with amazing potential, and we wanted to make sure that Evolve got its shine. You know, we in the beginning of our pod, we were like the NXT hub. Yeah, everybody.

So we love bigging up people.

So I would say. Why should people tune in to evolve? And also I want to know some of your dream matches that you want to do because I talked about Bianca Belair. I would love to see that. Jordan Grace, low-key, gave you one the other night.

And I'm going to need to see some give back with that as well. I'm going to need to see that too. Yeah. So, you know, why should people tune into Evolve? And what are some dream matches that Kelly Armstrong has for herself?

People should tune into Evolve because Evolve got some dogs. Like, I'm Kelly Armstrong. I'm the champ, I'm strong, I'm dominant, but evolve. Evolve got some dogs. There's some people on there that they say NXT just has the best women division ever, but there's a whole other subdivision of NXT, which is Evolve.

They got some dogs. We got some talent. Like, it's just so stacked that we can't all make it to NXT at the same time. But Evolve has amazing talent. We have awesome storylines.

So it's definitely something that people should put on the radar to watch because we're coming. And I promise you, once we get into NXT, it ain't no turning back. I don't want y'all to, oh, I did not. I'm telling you right now, get on the train because once that train leaves, I'm out of there.

Now, oh, yeah. You got any dream matches? A dream match would be I would love it to be a tag between myself, Bianca, Naomi, and Jade. Oh, yeah. I feel like that tag could be amazing.

Here you go. Here's some money. Yeah, take my money. Here's some money. Take my money.

I'm there. I'm there for front row. A great shirt guy got to go for that match. We're taking his seat. We got to find him too, by the way.

I feel like that would go very hard.

Now, I've got to hit you with no contest wrestling. Top question. It's our top question, bro. It's our favorite.

Now, for sure.

Now, you're on the beach in Greece, wherever you wanted to be. Meganos. And, you know, it might be about 50 ladies in there who don't. Rock with Callie Armstrong.

Okay. And they're from the Midwest. They don't like California. Yeah, exactly. They're talking mess.

They think we all avocado toast.

So I need you to pick a team of you and four other superstars to make sure you get into the car. Four other superiors. Any moment. Yeah. Any woman.

Okay, any era.

Okay, I say first. I'm going to go with Naomi.

Okay. She's on a run right now. Naomi is going to cuss them suckers out. All right.

Get your raggedy tail to the dog, okay?

So she's gonna scare away a good half of them just from talking mess, okay? Then I'm going to have to put Bianca in there. Absolutely. Because 50 women. That's a lot.

She's gonna take that break. Is she gonna whiff about 10 at a time?

Well, it's all about making the best out of our moments.

So, Naomi got half of them out with the words, Bianca got the other. One percent, two percent, however many people her braid. Then we're gonna go Jazz. Oh, yeah. Me and Jazz are gonna be jabbing it up.

Boom, boom, boom. We're gonna be getting them back to, we're gonna be back to back, jabbing them. And I say to finish them off, we're going to have to get Shayna Baszler. Oh, man, that's a solid pick. And then she putting them to sleep.

I'm driving them, she's putting them to sleep. They don't be cussing them out.

Now I'm going to put them away. Yeah, I'm driving them. Pop pop. They'll put them to sleep. That's a solid mean team, right there.

Yeah, I'm a solid mean team. Y'all was getting back to the hotel without a problem. Yeah. With that part. This might be the third or fourth, I think, third time Shannon Baszler's been picked.

But why wouldn't she? Yeah, she was in the first one. Her very first episode, CM Punk picked her. Yeah. CM Punk was like Shannon Baszler.

I wanted to pick a well-rounded group. Yeah. You did that. You did that. Now, Callie, we got a time machine.

We got a no-contest wrestling time machine, right?

Okay. We're going to let you borrow it.

So you're going to be able to go to any point in time. And you're going to pick up. Five women. that you can main event wrestle mania with. Which women from any era, from any time?

Would you love to see yourself in the ring against? in the biggest stage of them all at WrestleMania.

Okay, going back, I have to have the Jazz and the Jacqueline. I feel like those two were the trailblazers. You know, they started this thing off, they showed us the path, the way.

So I got to go with those two. Jazz and Miss Jackie, no doubt. And I gotta go with the current three that I want to do the tag with. Yeah. Bianca, Naomi and Jade.

I feel like it's it's no bigger, better people in wrestling right now. And I feel like you could put those three up against anybody in any time zone. They're all doing big things, and I feel like I'd love to be a part of them in the biggest moment ever. Gotcha. Absolutely.

I think we're out of time on this one. Might be. But you know, we... Me and TJ, when we set out to do this podcast, the thing that we wanted to do is not only give Superstars, an avenue to promote what's coming up, but to show who they are, to get fans to connect with them a little bit more because relatability is likability. No doubt.

And you shine in this interview, man. If there's any reason to watch Evolve, it's to watch Kelly Armstrong. We're rooting for you, and you always got a home at no contest wrestling. I appreciate y'all so much. You guys are awesome.

Appreciate it. Before you go, Callie, one last thing. Give me. The top three stars that Englewood has produced, in your opinion. Oh, man.

Oh, man. We got to go with a Paul Pierce.

Okay. Celtic. Yeah. This is a little bit. We gotta go with the uh Rajah Rondo.

Okay, okay. We got to go with the Callie Armstrong. Absolutely. That's what's up.

That's what's up.

You know why I didn't say Celtic for Raj Armando? Because he played for the Lakers. Because he won with the Lakers. God, you were insufferable. That's right.

He wanted to be there in 2020 with the Lakers, baby.

Well, anyway, Callie, we wish you the best. Like O'Shea said, our home is your home. We'll leave a key under the mat for you. We're right in El Segundo, so you know where we're at. And we're wishing nothing but the best for you, man.

And just, I can't wait to watch you continue to. Evolve. I see what you did. By the way, Evolve is on Wednesdays on Tubi. For those who don't know, check them out, man.

All the episodes are there on Tubi as well. Champ is here. Check out Evolve. Yeah, the Champ is here. Kelly Armstrong.

Thank you so much. Thank y'all. I appreciate y'all. Kelly Armstrong. How about that, man?

Man, I love when I get to do Laker propaganda. On the wrestling. What a rare opportunity. Glad you love it. I mean, I even know she was watching when she saw the UCLA shoes around my neck.

That was crazy. That was wild, but they were, you know, they were there. That was crazy. Shout out to the Bruins. You probably put them on your bumper when you drive home today.

Well you know what's funny, it's actually Callie kind of gave us a segue because She talked about someone she wanted on her bar fight crew. And it just so happens that we're going to tag team those people up today, O'Shea. Yes, sir, man. Our interview with Naomi that we've been holding, I think right now is a perfect time to get into that. It was a few weeks ago, but guess what?

People love Naomi. They want to see it. We've been getting threats that we better show it. And we don't want Naomi on us. No, no, no, absolutely not.

And that's the thing about the No Contest Wrestling Podcast. We are for the people. And we got to give the people what they want. Got to give the people. Give the people what they want.

So, without further ado. Here's that Naomi interview. Ladies and gentlemen. Our next guest is setting the WWE on fire, in and out of the ring. And your Twitter, too.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. In and out of the ring. Not since Beyonce dropped lemonade. Have we seen a black woman going on a revenge tour like this? All right.

This lady is a two-time. WWE women's tag team champion, a two-time women's SmackDown champion. She's the first black superstar to win a world title at WrestleMania, which is a crazy fact. That's a crazy statement. Yeah, that's crazy.

She even took her talents to the NBA at one point.

Now, and make sure you watch your mouth. Because this funkodactyl will funk you right on up. All right, so make sure you proceed with caution. Ladies and gentlemen, Mrs. Money in the Bank, Naomi, welcome to the five.

Yes, indeed. Yes. Great intro, guys. Thank you. I'll be trying to work on them.

I'll be going hard for my intro. A great intro for a greater talent. Come on now. Come on now. We got a piece of history with us.

We're looking at it. You said it. You said it, guys. How are you doing today? Good.

Just on a little road trip, you know, might be pulling up somewhere. You never know where.

Now, when you say where, I mean, could this be someone's house if they're not home, someone's parents' crib, or?

Well, and they're done that. I don't know. It could be NHC, it could be TNA, it could be raw. I don't know. Bro, when they like to know, so ain't nobody safe, is what you're saying.

Nobody. We you know you you've said uh you've said a lot of historical marks. Throughout this career. And during your intro, I said you even took your talents to the NBA at a point. Can you let us know a little bit in the beginning, what kind of, when did you get bit by the wrestling bug?

When did you set yourself on this path? uh to be the historical superstar that you are. I got bit by the wrestling bug in 2009. At the time, I was an NBA dancer, Orlando Magic, cheerleader. And just through word of mouth, I heard about WWE looking for more minorities, particularly.

women and um I heard that and I showed up. to audition. And they've been here ever since. Just want to call a tryout, not an audition, or try called a tryout. Right, right, right.

Dancers have auditions. Wrestlers have. I'm glad she went. But before you get to your question, TJ, I just want to point out in 2009, the Los Angeles Lakers beat the Orlando Magic to win the NBA championship. I just want to remind you, Cougar fan, TJ, that the Lakers won that year.

Now, continue. Naomi's here. That was such nasty work. You know, we went to that game. We got to fly to LA and be there.

And I was hoping. I thought. I was hoping. I don't know why I thought, but I thought, you know, Cooker did it. I know.

I went out to buy a great jersey that didn't even play for Orlando anymore because I don't like the Lakers. And so I feel he reads your tweets, right? He reads your tweets. Know why he would say that to you? Like, I think your Twitter's about to get some nasty work from Naomi.

That's of all real nasty. Naomi got the best Twitter in the world. Oh, my bad. Right. So why would you bring that up there?

Because you don't have a championship ring. That's why I brought it up. Wow. All right.

Rude. Yeah, dancers get rings. When the team wins, the dancers get rings also.

Well, I could have had one. In a little bit, you're going to get something that's a little better than the ring. It's got a leather strap around it.

Some gold pieces. I mean, you know. I'm going to give me a Hall of Fame ring. I'm going to get me some championships. At this point, in this era, it's all about the legacy.

at this point. Right. Right, so you know, we all always feel like you know, when you have a great story, it kind of starts at the beginning.

So, not sure if she's frozen a little bit right now. Oh, there she is.

So Let us know about little trend. Let us know about little trend. What was life like for you growing up as a youngster? I had a great upbringing, very, very humble, big family. from a huge family and a lot of love, very hardworking.

Um a lot of strong women. And um yeah. Nothing Nothing crazy about my upbringing. I had a very good upbringing. athletically what like What were you into as a young kid?

So one summer I went with to visit my dad, and my dad put me in piano classes, he put me in dance classes, he put me in acting classes. He just, you know, he wanted me to be productive and not sit around for the summer. And that's when I first fell in love with. the arts and I was around like eight years old. And so when I went back with my mom.

Um The one that I really clung to, which I hate to this day that I didn't stay with piano because. I come from a Family of musicians. My dad's a musician. My dad plays just about every instrument. My uncle is George McRae, who is one of the greatest RB soul singers.

From back in the day, topped the billboard charts in the 70s. They know I love the piano and I want to learn how to play the guitar. But anyway, the one that I stuck with was dance. And then from the age of eight, I went back, my mom put me in dance, and I competed from eight to 18. tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical modern hip hop.

thought I was gonna graduate, go to New York, go to Alvin Ailey, and then I wanted to do Broadway. But Didn't go that way. I ended up staying home, auditioning for Magic, and then found wrestling.

So here we are. I mean, I'm not, you know, like, I wish you would have, you know, piano under your belt, but I'm not going to act like I'm mad that she picked wrestling, right? I got wrestling instead of piano. Yep. Now.

You know, you you like you say you chose wrestling. And something that we'd like to ask here on the No Contest Wrestling Podcast, DJ, is what was your welcome to wrestling moment where you were like, all right, yeah, this is this is what I chose. This is what I got to do every day now. I think that first time when you take a bump for the first time. Like Okay.

They tell you and try to train you how to do it, but you do it wrong a million times before you get it right. But just that initial jolt and shock to your body being hit like that, it definitely takes a lot to get used to. And that's definitely one of those things that can make and break you right there in that moment because it doesn't feel good. You're sore for weeks after, you know. Your first, when you first get into it and training, you got bruises and bumps everywhere.

And it's such like a culture shock, just the whole taking in all the information of it, if you're not. familiar with Wrestling, which I wasn't. I had no experience, didn't know much about it. Then the big names, you know. Rob Hogan.

Uh father-in-law. But that was about the extent of it that I knew about.

So, yeah, it was. It was a life-changing experience for sure.

Now, something like that, you know, it's quick to. That's a really make-or-break moment. I'm pretty sure your first bump. Will make a lot of people leave. Yeah, I don't know what to say for me.

Your first bump, last bump. Yeah, exactly. Like, you know what? Nah, we'll go behind the diamonds. I've seen that happen.

Granted, happen a lot. Yep. So, who would you say is someone that? Without them. we wouldn't have the Naomi sitting in front of us.

I definitely definitely say Dr. Tom does real. Two. Those The trainers who were at the Core of my development at that time. I still Yes, Dr.

Song Pritchard. Yep, he was the head coach in FCW at that time and Um, I still apply the things that I learned from them and that they taught me to this. To this day, and they all really believed in me. And I think a lot of times when I doubted myself. Um they kept me in it.

And then meeting meeting my husband as well. Jimmy Jones. Hey, Jim. Jimmy Jones. Jimmy.

So in 2009, you did sign with WWE and you went to Florida Championship Wrestling, as you said, and you became the inaugural FCW Divas champion. What was it like down there during that time? Who were you working with? Who was down there getting their start along with you? It was so different.

It was less than 10 of us in the women's roster. on the roster at that time. Um Who was incredible at that time was AJ Lee, and she was. Really, the only one that really knew. Um She was definitely the most advanced and really knew wrestling, the ins and outs of it at that time.

A lot of us came in with no experience or from a dance background or modeling background or. Uh Know just other aspects of entertainment because again, it was the diva era and that's. That's what they were looking for at the time. Um but um We had girls like Liviano, we had Auxana, we had Jamie Keys. Um And then the main girls would come down also during that time.

I got to meet Natty and You know, do things. With Alicia Fox and stuff before I even came back on the main roster, but the division was very small and nowhere near what it is now. But it was so cool because I feel like we were able to get so much more. uh one-on-one time in coaching. That really helped us to succeed a lot quicker during that time.

Now you have You you tied Natalya for most money in the bank matches. Can you let us know? You know, us mere mortals, TJ. What it's like going into a match with so much going on, and how do you even really prepare for a money in the bank match? You've got the most experience of anyone on the women's roster, and you won one.

So, like, what goes into your mindset of like, all right, you know, you know, you got to put on a show and you know you got others, all the things that you got to look out for. Let us know the thought process of a money in the bank match. I think the key to going into a money in a bank match is. Just trying to beat that fear, fight that fear and go in. Um, fearless because if you go in scared, you go in weary of anything, you go in afraid of the ladders, it's gonna show and um.

Those types of matches, you can't really, you can't really prepare for the. There's so many girls, so many ladders, stuff being thrown at you every what your way. Um So, yeah, I just think it's one of those matches where you just got to go in and. Balls to the wall and not be scared. It's like an actor with improv.

Like, you just gotta be ready. You gotta be ready for whatever's thrown at you. And you gotta take risks. You gotta be willing to take risks. I was about to say that.

Yeah, because she's a spot stealer in those. Even though Golden Rumbles, you know, like when you know Naomi's in, it's gonna be a lot of fun. Yeah. And you're just like an actor, you've got to trust that if you're doing improv, you've got to trust your partner, right? These performers put their lives on the line.

Yeah, I'm not trusting Gerard Butler with my life, though.

Well, that's because Gerard Butler beat you up the first movie. Snitched on me, they snitched on you the second.

So if you have a second, I would trust Gladiator Gerard Butler. Oh, yeah, you know, yeah. This is Spotify. Yeah, I'd follow him anywhere, you know.

Okay. All right.

Well, so in 2010, you competed in the all-female. uh third season of NXT. You finished in second place. I think that somebody needs to recount those votes, is what I think. Because I'm offended.

Yeah, I'm offended. I can't know. And I'm ashamed I even brought that up to you. But that led to your main roster debut with a group called the Funka Dactyls. Talk to us about.

You and Cameron, and that period of time, where the majority of us got our first exposure to you. It was such a fun time. And I'm glad that I was able to come in that way because it allowed me to learn so much about the business, what it's like being on the road that first year. Um Without so much pressure on me. Whereas if I would have come in.

Uh You know, as a single star, I love the support that I had with Cameron. We still talk and keep in touch and are close to this day. And it's definitely one of the highlights of my career. Like that was a really, really fun time and special time. And also for the first time to really have this duo of two black females was just something different.

Knew at that time. And it was a lot of fun. And I learned a lot through. that faction and that group that prepared me, I think, for when. I later became.

Uh on my own. And in that solo career You know, you. Like we said in the beginning of the show, you're a history maker, you know. Can you tell us about what it felt like? When you did win the SmackDown Women's Championship, what did it feel like going?

Back home or to the hotel, wherever you were, and you laid your head on the pillow. As world champion, what did that feel like? Did you love wrestling before? I don't know how you got there, but the journey. How did it feel to be on top of the world that night?

To be honest, it was such a Those days are so stressful and so busy and so chaotic. And you're just, you're just for me, you have the nerves, they're good nerves, but you know, you just want everything to go well. And then me, I overthink sometimes. And like, so. everything kind of went and happened and I really didn't take it all in until after.

And I was like, wow. This is cool. This is incredible. Like I, I didn't. Wasn't for sure if It was going to happen because I won a championship and then I got injured, and then I had to relinquish it.

I didn't even. wasn't sure and i was prepared if that moment didn't happen but to push through all of that and See to be trusted with that responsibility and with that moment and to be given that. Um it said so much. to me about um where I was with the company, what they thought of me, and What I had worked for, it all paid off, and it was all worth it. The ups, the downs, how long it took.

All of it was worth it in that moment, that day. Did that. Did that. Did that. I guess we'll move ahead a little bit.

They talk about Women who helped, you know, pave the way for other women and, you know, doing things to. bring, you know, that spotlight to women, which Let us the total divas. This is going to be my next question. You're so good, TJ. You're so good.

I spent way too much time thinking about that. Total Divas, right? Let's talk about it. The memories you have. It seemed like you had a blast.

It seemed like. You and Renee were probably my favorite two pairing because you two seemed to be having more fun together than anyone else. I can remember at one point, you guys were like. Messing around in the pool, and Lana was trying to sleep, and she came out, and Renee's like talking trash. Like, sorry, we can't hear you over all our fun.

Like, how much fun was Tolediva's? Like, just give us the dirt. Maybe not even the dirt, but how was it? But yeah, the dirt, the dirt, we want the dirt. It was so much fun.

And the crazy thing is, at that time, it didn't feel or seem like a big deal. Mm-hmm. Just it worked the way the show was viewed and like What was happening at the time, we were just going through life and cameras just happened to be there filming it, you know. But now, looking back 10 years later, I see how big the impact was.

Now, when new girls are coming in, they're like, oh my God, I want to start wrestling because of you, because of Total Divas. I watch you, you are my favorite. I'm just like, wow. Legged. Man, that's really cool to hear.

Uh it also reminds me of How old am I now? I love it. 26 ain't old. What are you talking about? I don't know.

I was going out of 25. My bad, Jay. 25. I knew you had a birthday coming up.

So I was. But I love the show. I love. All the girls, of course, there were moments of. of of drama um But what do you expect when we're traveling on the road?

Three, 200, 300, 260, 300 some days out of the year with each other, but there's always love and respect. And I think it just made us even closer and bonded for life. And I love that so much of our life was captured and documented. Like I'll see stuff pop up on my feed now that happened with me and John, or like when we were earlier in our relationship. And I was like, oh, I'm so glad.

My kids can look back and see this now. How I make your money. This is really, really cool. What a great experience. And I hope we get to do it again to some degree.

Because there's so much that's happened in all of our lives. And I think Total Divas just had. Still has such a strong fan base who want to see it again, even with the newer talent.

So I just thought it was such a positive brand. It was something so great that happened to women's wrestling because people outside of the wrestling world were now interested or had never knew about this. Inspiring. Athletes who never even thought about wrestling because of that show.

Now they do. Do you remember how it got pitched to you? I Yeah. Tele Relations at the time, we heard about they were doing a show, but we didn't know the capacity. And it was kind of just like, There was certain people.

Um that they They picked for the show, but everyone was picked for a reason. And I think it really worked for me and Cameron, and they wanted us because we were new at the time, we were a team. It we brought diversity and It was almost just like a given for us to be on there. Then they asked us about it. We both were like, sure, yeah, not understanding and knowing anything about what goes into taping a reality show, but.

Um We were all on board. For it for sure, 'cause We kind of understood like the importance of women having this opportunity in earth thing. Sure. I know, I know, I know. What a terrible time for an interview to cut off.

We get it. Trust us. We have been hurting about this for quite some time. Um, but yeah, I mean, that's what we have so far. And Naomi is always welcome back.

Oh, well, she knows, even if she wasn't, she just helped let herself in. Yeah. Like, we are welcoming her back, but if for some reason we didn't, she'd come whenever she wanted to. Man, she might be in the parking lot. You know, that's how all this started.

Right. She's doing amazing work right now. Yeah. The beginning of her Her run, man, you know, just the people she's getting to. Go against and go over.

And now she's got Stephanie Vacare in Paris. How do you think that's going to go? I don't know, but we got some time to talk about that. We should break that match down. I don't know, man.

I don't know, but I need to see the rules. If there's a DQ, there's a DQ rule. I mean, that's the way I go, bro. I don't know, man, but I'm looking forward to it. I can tell you that much.
